pretty high vit, and you will float at around 700 or so healing power…. . .You would have to define decent, and if we get into real min maxing you have start putting your values in order. First off, vitality in our case would get out shined by toughness in the long run. Were not eating hits most of the time and our condition wiping is incredible so toughness makes more sense.
Then we go into how much power, how much precision, and how much crit damage. Now there are lots of things account for and what realistic, but in most cases for us 30% crit rate with a build that has near or permanent fury (since it will bump up to 50%) would be ok. Then you have to worry about crit damage. Your looking at at least 50%. So then you go into the stats and what gear combinations are feasible. Your’e probably going to be looking at a combination of Valkyrie and Knight’s with Opal and Beryl orbs.
If it were me I would go for as little healing power as I feel comfortable with probably way less than 700. Our heals heal hard no matter what even with reduced healing power you’ll likely be a ok. Unless you were super tanky you’ll barely feel it as the best scaling we get is 100% and that’s a 1 to 1 ratio. The heals hit over 1k all by them selves plus all the ambient healing would suffer very little.
Now here the kicker. I would say go to tree 2 ie air and invest there because in the long run the crit damage multiplier you get from there would be invaluable. However, because most find the second tree of our class lack luster past 10 points your pretty much left making up the gap with gear. if you are making it up with the gear you have to consider that critical damage is only ever paired with 2 things beside power those are precision and vitality. If you made up the gap with gear your toughness would be low and you would be rather squishy. Now depending on your set this may not matter.
The other thing is pairing a little bit of precision in favor of power is basically gimping yourself. If you pair it with power you may boost yourself a little but the difference would be marginal as our big hitting skills are all on long cool downs. For lets say a back stab thief or just about any other class this makes a great deal of sense as their biggest hitting skills are on short or nearly no cool down. We however do not have this luxury.
In the long run power pays off better with defensive stats. Our access to fury and an unbelievable capability to stack might makes it that when we use a hard hitting skill we hit hard 100% of the time. Leaving too much to rng in our case is not good. Another thing for the DD SD and SF conditions are applied often, If I wanted more DPS I would actually toss in more condition damage in. Since might pairs with condition damage and power simultaneously (ie it boost both at the same time) and usually we have a lot of access to it there is more sense in adding a little more condition damage than precision and crit damage.
I know its long but read if you like.
In summation its still smarter to go pure power with defensive stats for us and in most cases condition damage makes more sense to boost our dps.

I favor vitality because I kamikaze in WvW ( I run to the back, earth quake the range spammers, updraft the front liners fron behind, and watch the confusion)..and the main thing that actually hits me is conditions from marks.
While our condition removal is superb, we cannot remove all conditions every second.
The healing power is something like a soft toughness stat imo. While i do take harder hits, my healing from attuning to water dodgeing and using cleansing wave heals me for 6k, 4.9k every 10 seconds, and if things get really bad I can use my actual heal skill.
The build is fun, but it isnt easy to play :I

Also note precision is a stat that pays few dividends on its own (especially with out class). So if you really want to go for a precision build for us the end of that road needs crit damage to balance out the cost.
As far as dungeons go you cant dps if your always down. PVT in most cases is the smart choice but if your’e really good go full dps and fly through runs. GC ele in PvP = dead ele 9 times out of 10.
Last note certain builds ie Altruistic healing etc can rely on precision with out multipliers. Proc builds do that just fine.

There are a few different knobs we can turn in regards to AoE some of the bigger ones being:
Radius of the AoE
Frequency of the AoE Damage
Damage of the AoE
Max Targets of the AoECurrently, some players causing the AoE are able to do more damage to one person while also controlling a portion of the field, compared to a player with single target damage.
In our balance discussions we always look at what these changes could do to PvE as well as PvP. Any changes we make will undergo a lot of testing, both internal and by our trusted alpha team. It is important to understand that we are not doing a blanket nerf to all AE’s or a dramatic adjustment of the damage AoE’s can do.There may be some cases where players can build for AoE damage, but are just not viable or other cases where AoE is clearly the dominate way to build, and as such the other builds get left on the side lines. Its these classes/builds that we are concerned about.
Basically..
Stop Overreacting, and lets think of the AoE’s we have that will ACTUALLY need a nerf.

A poison field and a field that negates healing altogether similar to the ones in orr needs to be added at the beginning of the jumping puzzle to prevent guilds from camping the start of the puzzle 24/7. It renders all the tricks and traps throughout the puzzle mute and it’s easy loot for the campers to prey on one target at a time using the overpowered mesmer pull ability. Since you can’t go back through the portal; if you get tapped by an arrow cart you are effectively dead.
You can argue that they would camp outside the field or treb the spawn from a distance and you wouldn’t be able to heal ect. The can make the edge of the field intercept projectiles into it and give players multiple routes of escape out of it. At least in this case if the fringes are being camped one can simply log before they are camped and discourage camping the start of the puzzle.

Instead of asking for a nerf, why don’t you ask Anet to buff other weapon sets for the elementalist? Isn’t that more logical since your complaints are D/D outshines all other weapon sets? You guys say that D/D is the only viable weapon set YET you want them to nerf it so it can be as weak as other weapon sets? Then after that you’ll ask Anet to buff elementalists again? D/D ele is flashy, not OP. So what if D/D eles are the best class at running away or chasing people? D/D eles trait heavily to boon duration/toughness/healing so they don’t even have a lot of damage to kill/burst someone effectively.
A D/D ele gives up his/her offensive prowess for the sake of gaining more defensive attributes. It is a fair exchange. I lose damage but I gain survivability and good support skills/CC.
D/D Eles will be OP once they have that 22k HP w/ 2800 armor and deals 15k BASIC burst as per someone who has a 30/30/30/30/30 build…
D/D ele doesn’t give up his offense. All Fotm ele players do by playing bunkers. What needs to be nerfed is their bunkering capabilities so some people might man up and trait for some damage.
What needs to happen first is that A-Net needs to make traiting for damage viable.
Our fire trait line is kinda crappy compared to water, earth and air are about the same, and arcana is just too nice to pass up in some situations.
They need to do a lot of work in the trait’s area.
Then they need to address the burst/Bunker meta..
Cause atm, 0/10/0/30/30 is whats keeping the Ele afloat, unless people want to go back to how it was in august where D/D Ele’s were free kills.
D/D is melee. Without mobility, people would be able to kite us easily and suddenly Anet would need to bestow eles mobility again, as it would ruin the D/D weapon set.
We can’t switch to scepter or staff in order to hit opponents at long range (Mesmers, Rangers etc. etc.) as other professions can, remember? Something for something. Way too much whining for no good reason, folks.
This. However I do kinda concede that the cooldown on RTL is a bit too low. Maybe increase it by at least 5 seconds and people will stop belly-aching over it.
People will cry regardless, also, if you compare the damage, effects,and CD across other leaps. (as well as take into account every other class can be in both melee and range)
Ele’s RTL fits in with the others..
Now if you add a blind to that RTL ( why doesnt this do that already? :I), I would be all for the extra 5 seconds

We fought a super pug (a group full of top pvpers that aren’t all necessarily on the same team) was winning paid tournaments running Ranger/Ranger/Ele/Ele/Offensive Guardian. They were winning without a mesmer, and without a bunker. They beat us twice today, too.
There’s a big misconception that you cannot win if you don’t run certain things, and this is just not true. The reason certain things are considered “required” is because one top team started using it effectively, and everyone else copied them because it was easy to do that.
I imagine the other three are ele, guardian bunker and mesmer. Thats the real issue, 3 are far and above the right choice for what they do. There are 2 other slots which isn’t exactly a large body of choices.
I believe last i checked QT runs a necro as well as the warrior
and the necro is D/D…

In a game where you have the option to balance around fewer variables or constant changing variables.
Which would be better?
In WvW thier is constant change, and a higher amount of variables that come into play vs that of a controlled environment.
In WvW we have NPC’s
Culling
Gear differences
Level Differences
Space Differences
Travel speed differences
Player skill differences
and the variable of siege equipment.
While this leads to a fun pvp environment.
For balancing it could be a nightmare.
Vs balancing a game mode that has fewer variables

Travel speed differences
You can reach the source of problems much faster when you dont have to take into account more things that could influence certain situations.
A better example would be the popularity of condition pistol thieves in wvw vs that of tpvp..
A thief specced for stealth has an easier time in wvw, because of culling and the other random npc’s it can jump around to stay perma stealthed, as well as a larger area to run ( and hit npc’s along the way)
Vs in Tpvp, they cant stealth as often because they dont help generate points (cap) their TTK is low, and culling doesnt as huge a factor in that game mode ( vs the invisible zergs you can have in wvw), and they dont have random npc’s for miles.
I understand you dont like spvp or tpvp, but saying a place with more variables should also be accounted in a balancing descision vs a place where their are fewer, is still and largely, illogical.
For the sake of perspective, why do you think balancing descisions should also be made with WvW in consideration, especially when so many variables cannot be controlled?

Have you got any idea of what it means to play against 2x 3x and 4x your numbers as a small man team in WvW? You assume that WvW isn’t competitive, you assume that balance issues in WvW don’t matter just as much as those in spvp. Their mobility needs to be tweaked, which can be accomplished with an increase RTL and trait tweaks. The trait tweaks are needed for the Elementalist as it is anyway. It amazes me you compare playing the Ele well to “playing mozart with your keyboard” the build is easy to play for anyone worth his salt.

…and if you play vs good players, every seems to forget that EVERY good player will have CC breakers and will be able to EASILY keep that 300+ distance needed to completely shot down an D/D ele -.- it gets even easier in team setting.

The class famously referred to as the class of attrition (by a dev if I’m not mistaken) is the necro. A tanky necro is supposed to be the attrition class. The problem is that right now an Ele can do it better and can escape or chase down anyone he wants. A necro can’t do that. So basically what you have is this really tough to bring down build that can do what it wants. I can die right outside a tower if it wants with no penalty at all.
There just needs to be slight tweaking done.

The problem is with people speccing into damage stats as well… the abilities in the spec allow for a ton of dodge and evasion and easy ways out of damage. Ive fought this build which charges and hits me for a 5th my health as a warrior. And the people killing 2v1. Sure any noob can spec def stats and live and run around but the players like me that have a brain can use this with maxed offensive stats and crush other classes
Unless your warrior is specced with not vit,and toughness, and im talking you put 0 into any of those lines and have no gear for it.
Then yes, your going to be hit hard by ANYTHING.
An ele specced for purely for tanking is not going to have the damage a glass cannon is going to have.
Rather they will have a constant stream of steady damage.
In which case your losing a battle of attrition, which an ele, when played right, is good at.
Are we argueing then that a class that can (and usually is ) spec for a battle of attrition, is OP because they specced for attrition?
Can we also argue that a class that can spec for condition damage is OP because they specced for condition damage?
I have a D/D ele and a Shatter Mesmer. I am sorry but the ele is not OP. I have yet to meet a bunker ele that can take my mesmer down 1v1. I don’t really think any class is OP right now. You must play some really bad players on your server. If ele’s were OP I would never be able to kill one.
I think ppl don’t really understand what OP means.
Your whole build revolves around your shatter clones. An ele has a few AOE attacks that can take them out fairly easily. If the ele misses his chance to take out the clones and happens to take too much damage then just mist>teleport>RTL away, regen instantly, come back and try again. Rinse and repeat until the ele wins since the mesmer cannot outrun the ele. Ele is free to harass any player indefinitely this way.
Most of the issue is the silly mobility. Seriously, the cool down on RTL is like 15 seconds. Really?
O man you need to fight a good mesmer..
For one, the damage a shatter mesmer can put out is still pretty strong, AoE’s mean crap if the mesmer is shattering.
And for shatter builds or hybrid shatters, that will be often.

Stealths, and CC make fighting an ele for mes easy. ( especially with culling being wacky)

Yes the d/d ele is currently the best roamer class for WvW in the game. It is getting annoyingly popular as well, with d/d eles coming out of the woodwork in wvw these days. D/D ele is not particularly hard to play. You pretty much just cycle attunements spam abilities and use certain utility skills as necessary. I think the main issue with D/D eles is not that their skills are overpowered so much as the fact that they get 4 attunements, each on separate CDs with 60% reduced swap time. The attune swap mechanic is the problem. When you can attune swap every few seconds you basically always have a powerful skill to use at all times and you are never that far away from gaining access to something you really need like ride the lightning. A normal class has to wait 15 seconds to swap back and forth between just 2 weap sets. Ele can swap to a new set of skills every couple seconds and return to the original set in less than 10 seconds.
Note that the reduction in attunment swap to 9 seconds requires 30 points invested in the arcana trait, which provides no major/minor stats. In addition, 3 out of the 5 skills on each attunment have a 15-45 second cooldown, so if you spam swapping attuments, you wont always have the powerful skills available to use.
In response to the OP, I’m pretty sure he’s trolling, but to clarify: anyone who feels god mode on a d/d ele likely just picked up the build as FotM and has not played the class long enough to know it’s true strengths and weaknesses. Most of these players build full defence, and believe jumping into groups of enemy players and jumping out is god mode. Good players know how to shut down spamming d/d eles, and know they are hardly a threat.
A good d/d ele has to be creative and outplay a good enemy in order to beat him (and not just taking damage then running away). Spamming cycles and predictable combos won’t work against competent players. In addition, few ppl know that d/d eles benefit from balanced specs, sacrificing a little surviability to gain much more offensive capability in burst or condition damage. That is when a d/d ele becomes a threat.

Timewarp is a bit OP ….. 10 seconds of AoE haste? Come on, what’s the counter for hasted stomps and rezes?
I honestly don’t see the other mesmer elites as viable in spvp when compared to timewarp….
I’d love it if I could timewarp for 5 seconds and have half the cooldown….

No matter what devs do to the classes people will find something that kills them and cry about it.
First month it was moa and PW thieves..then it was guardians,mesmers,thieves….and now its gaurdians,ele,mesmers,warriors, and thieves
Soon when people start learning to play and classes get more viable builds, their will be an ocean of tears for every class.
It must of been 5 other players, as I am sure we weren’t the only ones going up there because we didn’t die several times to the treb you built.
But good training, I can see where that’s going to come in handy for you in the future.

Honestly the thing that shifted me from “suspicious but explainable” to “WTF?!?!!?!?” was seeing SoS and SBI set up with siege in multiple supply camps and a few towers/1 keep across all the BG’s.
Hopefully it was a fluke…..

Jade Quarry is getting tired of some of the blood in T1. Tonight was a turning point where several times throughout the night we found SoS and SBI setting up shop together and simply…. 2v1ing.
You can call me a JQQer all you want, but the fact remains, when you run into a supply camp and find 2 opposing servers waiting for you with arrow carts and ballista’s…..and NOT attacking each other….something is wrong. Something is even worse when situations like this become commonplace on all 4 BG’s throughout the night.
So, this being said, I desperately hope Blackgate makes it to T1 and turns it into a 3 way fight again.
What I’m wondering is…..Do any SoS or other JQ’s feel the same way? Different?
