Matches are a week long.

Anyone can put up with a beating for a bit, but an entire week is more brutal than anyone wants.

Why don’t college football teams QQ more when they get blown out 90-3?? Because the game is only a few hours long not 24/7 for a week.

I’d personally love to see matches 28 hours long, 6 matches per week. Maybe even 3 matches of 56 hours each.

Every match would still cover all times zones so all players could play in each match. Blowouts would be tolerable. Match variety coming out yer kitten. Reset time would be different each match which would make things quite interesting. Upsets would be a lot more likely, since lead changes are far more common in the first couple days of a match and almost unheard of later in the week.

I’m speaking slightly out of turn here because the match I am currently in was basically a 3-way tie until yesterday, however that is the FIRST time I have ever seen anything like that happen. In all of WvW history, the farthest a matchup has ever gotten without a clear winner was Wednesday. 9 times out of 10 its decided over the weekend.

Anet – what is the reasoning behind keeping matches 1-week long at a time? Is there any possibility of revisiting this concept? Certainly it would be much easier than attempting to balance server populations…..

Honest answer?

Our stability comes from our player base being in Tier 8 for an entire year, getting roflstomped week after week and only winning 2 matches in the first 10 1/2 months of WvW. Because of this we are pretty anti-bandwagon/fairweather compared to a lot of other servers.

Everyone that stuck through those long months are not going anywhere, and form the rock-solid core of the community we have today.

Then, as servers above us began crumbling, we ate up the crumbs like starving badgers and started pulling off some wins. A few of our guilds successfully used this momentum as a rally flag and through incentives and good old fashioned peer pressure were able to convert a lot of our server’s PvE players into WvW. Training sessions and a re-organization of Teamspeak are getting our new recruits up to speed quickly and breeding new generations of effective commanders.

We still have a long way to go but down on FC the journey itself is far more rewarding than simple wins.

P.S. I’m not aware of too many people who have transferred away from our server, but of the ones I do know of 1/2 of them came right back within 2 weeks.

bronze league top to bottom has only 200-300 rating difference.

SF, ET, FC, DH will have great fights against anyone they face. We can compete with the top of the league while still having to be on our toes against the bottom.

Can’t speak for T1-5 problems but since the leagues became 6/9/9 I am actually looking forward to season 1.

Its because transfers are not just for WvW (in Anet’s eyes).

I keep saying they should just break the link between WvW and PvE. Keep your 24 PvE servers but create a new system of maybe 18 WvW servers with different names.

2 separate transfer options, one for PvE based on total pop and one for WvW based on rank. 2 leagues of 9. No empty servers.

The servers are already separate anyway from PvE

Have the bloodlust buff apply to your borderland and PvE, not EB or other borders. You can still neutralize buffs in other borders but not gain them.

it will stop imbalancing WvW while simultaneously attracting attention to WvW from the PvE crowd when they keep seeing buffs popping on them.

fire spells work best on gates because they are wooden. it already makes sense. i’m pretty sure i’ve seen burning damage ticks on gates from fire spells, although its still very low damage and the gate doesn’t show it has burning condition or anything.

I would be fine with a limitation on the reach of the stat buffs.

Example EB is exempt from buff, or buff only applies to the map its on, or even you only get the buff in your BL and EB but not in an enemy BL.

Sometimes when you first WP somewhere it shows those orange dots.

It only seems to happen right after WP’ing and then it goes away.

I recall seeing that yesterday myself when I WP to our EB keep and SF was at Jerrifer’s. It’s an old glitch but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it so apparently something is causing it to happen more often now.

Coordination, strategy, and communication actually start to matter when the matchup is fairly even, regardless of coverage.

I’m big on scouting and can’t tell you how many times I have spotted a ninja keep rush in our BL and called everyone in to save our T3 keep in the lords room with not a minute to spare. We didn’t save our keep because we had coverage. We saved it because we had communication and scouting.

Coverage is #1 but it is not everything.

We all know it’s a F2P game and obviously they want to create situations where a lot of people pay gems to transfer.

I don’t see why we’re surprised 1/2 the time. Although in most cases there are ways they could sell transfers while balancing population instead of the opposite.

If I look at my combat, both thieves together, were hitting me for 4k backstabs + Heartseeker each while keeping me permablinded. I have 3.3k Armor and 20k hp. I am not a thief or mesmer who can steath, nor do I run GS because I really don’t like that weapon. My only options is to stay and die, or fight and die anyway. I am confident in my own abilities, but I also like to roam alone when I’m not seeing that our side needs an extra man. I Enjoy 1v1 fights as they are fairly balanced.

You may say don’t complain about duos, or 5 mans, but then again. If I’m running with 5+ people and the rest of my team is running someone into the ground I don’t join them. I Don’t mess with a 1v1 if I run into one, and I don’t even interrupt enemy spikes. I use to just jump into 1v1’s regardless, but I choose to be a little bit honorable even if my enemy doesn’t see this in the same light. All I ask is if you want a fight you break away from the group and through me a bow, a point, anything at all. I’ll fight you, and I’ll win/lose with honor and take my spike like a man.

and this is why America won the revolutionary war against the British. They were all into gentleman’s warfare and they QQ’ed hard when we used guerilla tactics. It’s not fair! It’s not honorable!

I still try to leave duels etc alone I don’t wanna ruin anyone’s fun but I have never met a server that hesitates to gank me 1v5 and if I see my server ganking someone I will not hesitate to try to land a hit for the kill and loot bag.

Yeah, I am a bit irritated. But then I guess their collective skill might actually add up to one person, so in a sense, It was still an even fight.

Oh good, calling them out for doing something that almost everyone does. You do understand that you are the outlier here? This is how the game is played. This is how the game will always be played. If you don’t like getting zerged down, play a thief or change up your warrior to be able to outrun the zerg.

It’s like that. I am fine with getting beat up by the zerg. being destroyed by like 20 people I can deal with. But it’s 6. Not 10, not 15, not 20. 6 is not a zerg, that’s a group of bullies. Same for the two thieves who were sitting outside of our spawn bursting down anyone who came out. It’s not the server. It’s just that group.

hate the game not hte player if you’re gonna hate any player it should be someone on your own server who is causing you to lose not an enemy who is trying to win/get loot/level/etc

Nice idea.
Keep should have 10 defenders maximum, else the supply income is too high to allow people to deny supply.
Boons are overpowered, i suggest only swiftness and immunity to fall damage (to prevent stupid dying and need to wp -> fail mission). I don’t mind mf.
Waypoint should stay contested but i think that the defender should be able to “fix” it with a cost of 10 supply for 20/30s.
Signal fire should only be available if structure is contested to prevent griefing.

maybe the boons are only active while manning siege. the point is to allow them to more effectively use oil/cannons/etc without just getting insta-killed by mass AoE and pulls from below.

signal fire wouldn’t allow any more griefing than can already be done. you can already shout it in map chat. the red swords would indicate a player sent a warning, the swords would turn to regular white swords once it’s actually contested. if griefing happens players would quickly learn how they should react.

hard to argue with that

i started with tanky armor and runes which is essential for WvW on my server.

from there the only way I can find a powerful enough build to quickly down someone is by putting 30 in domination and dueling for the stats, then picking the best trait combos out of those lines.

any suggestions how else to have as high of a burst capability while wearing tanky armor and runes?

The mentality and gameplay is very different in each league, and there are definitely distinctly different types of WvW players. Having 3 leagues is an opportunity to create virtually 3 separate WvW game modes. Players could play in the league that fits their playstyle more. I’m not talking about changes in game mechanics like AoE limit etc but more along the lines of WvW “rules”

Some of the things I am suggesting be looked at changing depending on which league you are in:

—map queue limit (possibly 100 for gold, 80 silver, 60 bronze?)
—R.I. duration
—siege cap limits
—outnumbered buff calculation
—drop rates for killing enemy invaders (higher rate in bronze)
—speed at which swords show up on contested structure (faster in gold league)
—significance of stat buffs from bloodlust
—siege decay timer length (slower in bronze league)

In any camp, tower, or keep you can speak with the quartermaster to sign up as a defender of that structure. Camps can only have 1 max defender, towers 5, and keeps start at 5 but the limit increases for each upgrade researched.

When you sign up to defend a structure, what happens is:

—a 30 minute timer begins (10 minutes for camps)
—you gain a defender buff which grants you stability, regen, protection, and swiftness, as well as +200% magic find
—if you go outside 1000 range of the structure your mission is failed
—you gain 1 supply per minute while defending
—repairs to this structure cost 1/2 supply
—if you’re in a keep with a waypoint, the waypoint will never be contested for you as long as your defender mission is still active (you haven’t left 1000 range of the structure).
—the quartermaster will now have a “signal fire” option. For 5 supply you can light the signal fire which warns of an incoming attack and puts red swords on the map for all to see the warning. This can be used if for example you see the enemy setting up a siege but has not yet contested the structure to give allies an early warning.

At the end of 30 minutes if you still hold the structure, you get rewards. For a tower or keep you get WXP, some karma, a random blueprint, one loot bag and an additional loot bag for each time the structure was contested during your 30 minute window. If it was a camp you get WXP, Karma, 1 loot bag, 10 supply, and a regular blueprint.

This way the rewards are not good enough to encourage camping empty towers that are very unlikely to be contested, but if you hold a structure off against a few attacks it can be very rewarding, especially by killing enemy defenders with that +200% magic find.

Thanks for the feedback. As far as the choice of torch I am often fighting heavily outnumbered it is very hard to give up the invisibility. Focus would fill the gaps of missing swiftness and CC’s but at the expense of invisibility and blinds.

Since I posted this I swapped out my chestpiece for clerics, and 2 of my accessory jewels for clerics, and I also moved the 10 extra traits to the healing tree and chose the increased movement speed per illusion so my healing power went from 0 to around 240. Not huge but definitely makes a difference.

I really am trying NOT to use my mantras unless needed because I want to have them charged as often as possible for the extra 16% damage because when I have might stacks and full mantras I hit like a truck. (3580 attack + 16% = 4153 attack + stacks of might on top of that).

I really just want to be able to burst someone down, gtfo, repeat.

The 30 in domination and dueling is for max power/crit and mantra traits since I am going basically a full power build.

Your suggestions sound like they would make the build more versatile and better in many situations, but for fighting 1v5 for example do you think the same is true?

Journey’s EDGE is an all-around guild on Ferguson’s Crossing. We are probably the most active guild on the server. Most days we have about 100 players online in NA prime.

Our mission is to create the best GW2 experience possible for all members. We have a lot of dedicated WvW players and commanders but we are not a WvW-focused guild we do everything including dungeons, temples, PvE, fractals, puzzles, guild missions, etc.

If your server has become a bandwagon or victim of one and you aren’t happy with that, consider Ferguson’s Crossing.

We are a very stable server and very anti-bandwagon. We have a family-style community and while we do NOT want a bunch of guilds transferring just to roll through season 1, we do welcome anyone looking for a permanent home they can be loyal to and who will be loyal to them in return.

As a (huge) bonus, we always get very competitive matches! Whether we are playing the top or bottom servers in the league, the match is always close and interesting. We have a legitimate chance at the top 3 in bronze league. We’re currently playing the #2 bronze server and only ~800 Points out of the lead with an 80 PPT lead.

Queues, besides reset night, are very rare and usually only in EB in NA prime.

normally I can troll 1vX for awhile but all those cc’s and condis make trolling against more than 2-3 NSP very difficult. so while you may Xv1 much more often than other servers, you are also better at it than they are. not sure if thats a compliment or not but its my observation

I keep changing my build up and yesterday I decided to completely re-work things and go full mantra. I have looked at the (very few) mantra builds I could find and none of them are quite the same as what I ended up with so I would like some feedback on this one.

I mainly play WvW and on a lower ranked server so I am usually outnumbered. Therefore I always need to be tanky but I want to also be able to burst people down quickly.

So here is the build.

Sword/Torch + Staff

30 – I / IX / XI
30 – VI / X / XI
10 – IV

armor is 1/2 knights 1/2 soldiers with melandru runes
trinkets are 1/2 zerker 1/2 cavalier

sigil of battle on staff and bloodlust/energy on sword/torch

skills are mantras of recovery, resolve, distraction, concentration + Mass invisibility

food is superior sharpening stones and lemongrass poultry soup

once i get up my stacks of bloodlust I’m running around about:

3580 attack (4% for each readied mantra)
38% crit chance 65% crit damage
2760 armor (
9% reduced damage per illusion)
30% cond duration
17,668 health

has anyone played a similar build before and if so are there any advanced tactics I should know about when to use mantras etc?

are there any alternate weapon choices I should consider?

the only drawbacks in theory I see are lacking swiftness and kind of low health pool. also the healing from the mantra is not much but I do get the passive trait in Chaos that gives me regeneration at 75% health, plus I get regen/prot/swift from getting hit with chaos armor on which I have 3-4 sources of if I use my leap finishers wisely with staff 5. any tips on maximizing the trait and armor regen?

skill rotation suggestions?

DH has so many bad players/pugs. What happened? Like did half my server forget how to play?

A hell of a lot more then half. Between FC Olympic track team and Dh hiveminded drones this match up is bad bad bad. I’ve stop bothering to record the last few day simply because it feels like cod5 combat training in godmode.

If this is what weeks are going to be like when the season starts in the bronze league.. I am going to miss the CD/SBI/Ioj trains… This week has been garbage.

I’m sorry if I hurt anyone’s efeelings. But these bottom of the barrel servers in wvw should have the plug pulled.

i have yet to find NSP roamers. 7 people is not a roaming group.

err wait i do remember ONE time yesterday a thief/mesmer were together by NSP’s vale camp and I got the mesmer down and the thief instantly rez’ed him. that was the best fight vs NSP i’ve had this week.

Yeah its been confirmed, NSP is the new bandwagon server, it doesn’t take logic, based on their placement and standings, only way they would lose is if, somehow a silver leagues server lost rating fell and NSP took their spot, then NSP would be last place in silver league, in which case which ever server from silver league fell, would still probably have a field trip on us, unless of course it turned out to be another fallen GoM or DR or DH, then in which case, I think SF and HoD would duke it out for the bronze league. crosses fingers

maybe if NSP and Kaineng get matched next week and NSP + other server is able to grind Kaineng into the ground.

Otherwise there is really no way that rating difference is going to happen. Although it appears DB was able to tank themselves out of gold league purposefully maybe Kaineng will try to do the same….

If JQ wins by an overwhelming number and more or less steamrolls all other servers then Anet needs to take a hard look at how scoring and wvw in general works. The solution for every server then would be to buy as many guilds as you can. I find that a sad realism.

Bronze league is the most balanced of all leagues by far.

two weeks ago we faced the bottom 2 servers in the league with this score

Unless a large group of players stack a bronze server there will be no major blowouts. That doesn’t mean we won’t know who’s going to win most matches within the first 24 hours.

Sure, though GoM vs. NSP was 150k vs. 270k it still isn’t as bad as what they have in the higher tiers but matches down here are getting really weird though. Even durin prime time, outside of EB it’s more like a ghost town.

Our borderland is 100% paper 100% of the time. Only reason Sorrow’s Furnace isn’t gettin more points is ‘cause after they flip it they don’t stay and guard it so we still end up holding it most of the time. GoM borderland is just PvD even during GoM prime time.

yea well you guys lost #s and that sort of things happens until you reach your “bottom” but it’s only temporary. AR and DR did the same thing they dropped to last place then started picking things back up.

Still, there is no server rank 16 or lower that has less than 100k points right now, and none that have 200k points either.

In the top 15, 6 servers have less than 100k points and 4 servers have more than 200k.

Bronze league is the most balanced of all leagues by far.

two weeks ago we faced the bottom 2 servers in the league with this score
237 098
221 261
183 993

this week we are facing the top 2 servers in the league with this score
127 052
154 705
129 104

Unless a large group of players stack a bronze server there will be no major blowouts. That doesn’t mean we won’t know who’s going to win most matches within the first 24 hours.

Add a "weight" trap

thought it would be fun to break up zergs just a little bit by adding a large AoE trap that activates based on X+ number of enemies inside it at once

their collective weight sets off the trap and they all get daze/bleed/cripple every 2 seconds or something until they get out of the trap.

smaller groups can run right over it no prob.

maybe even could sell variants of it. lower cost smaller traps that only require 5+ to set off, up to expensive giant traps that require 40+ to set off.

experienced players know who the experienced commanders are

Newbie commanders will attract the newbie players.

Part of your job as a server to be competitive is to help train and guide the newer players.

Nothing should change on minimum requirement except maybe increase the price since gold is now easier to get.

However I would be in favor of commanders being able to “nominate” each other for bigger and better titles.

Originally my idea was change commander to “General” and all General tag purchases come with a 1-time consumable that if you are in a squad and use it, it gives a “vote” to the General whose squad you are in.

As you gain votes your title and icon progresses

5 votes = commander
10 votes = veteran commander
25 votes = legendary commander

**Possible twist to this – those with votes to their tag CAN if they choose give their votes to other commanders – when in their squad you can click a button that gives 1 of your votes to them.

As long as rank is still character bound vs account bound this idea sucks.

However due to market inflation its probably time to raise the price.

I’m gonna extend some middle ground and assume the higher ranked servers NSP has been against are even worse about ganking in larger groups.

Maybe NSP just needs some time to calm down and adjust to the bronze league pace again?

We have plenty of roamers and duelers as you can see on the forums.

@ Moutz I haven’t found an NSP group of less than 4 that I haven’t killed.

I either slaughter 1-3 NSP, or they group-gank me.

So it must just be up to whoever we are lucky enough (or unlucky) to run into.

Normally I run near a group of 7+ NSP and get 181501 stuns+condis on me. Either that or I run into 2-3 of them and drop them like flies.

All the skilled players seem to be grouped up. Guessing that’s because you’ve been outnumbered recently???

I’m tellin you this is where the fun is at. We don’t want any giant guilds to come ruin it but would love some new friendly faces to come enjoy the battles with us

Good try DH at our Garrison you had lord down to 20%. Very ninja of you – I got there with 25 seconds left on timer just barely enough time for me to warn the EB crew to spam WP and kick you out. Cheers XD
