It is only 2 mins. But it grows with continued ‘violations’.

Anyone who complains that DH is overpowered needs to just stop wasting time posting on forums and spend it learning to play. Pro leagues proved that DH is only good against scrubs.

The condi daredevil with D/D is just better overall, and is more fun to play. It has more evades, more consistent damage, and doesn’t necessarily have to be in melee to deal damage thanks to the dodge, and the lingering condis.
I agree. I prefer Condi Daredevil using D/D. Constant evades and with perma bleed/poison.

I leveled a thief as soon as HOT was released and went immediately Condi Dire DD with perma dodge/evade. I love it and can solo pretty much anything there is out there.

while we’re at it can we also get an obvious “tell” or animation when a thief or mesmer is about to hit me from stealth. Cos you know there is hardly any counter play when I’m happily running around in pvp and boom i get hit from stealth for half my HP.

Warrior is the only class that I see win 2v1s on a regular basis in PvP. Win as in kill the other 2 players. They really aren’t weak. I think people are annoyed because the elite didn’t buff them so they stay at the very top of the pile.

Anet “buff” timeline is way too long and there is far too much work to be done on war to make it competitive again.
My advice to warriors reroll a Revenant. Its everything a warrior should be and much much more.
Thats what i did. Tomes of Knowledge plus one day in Maguuma getting Hero Points and I’m ready to go. (warrior was my second level 80 and the one with the most hours on it).

The most annoying part of the traps is the daze. It is bugged as hell.
Even when you shadowstep/blink out of the traps you land out STILL DAZED. I just hope this isn’t intended per design.The pull in trap is also very lethal as it gives you no way of escaping stacked traps. The only way of escaping is through the bugged(?) teleport. Meh.
Two DHs in a point are so lethal it ain’t even fun. I saw a team who set 6 traps, which of course INSTA killed anything that passed by. And if someone triggered them early or survived, guess what? They layed all 6 again, but this time, on top of you.
If 2 DH are sitting on one point then guess what? it means you can 5v3 on the other 2 points and win.
All it takes is one ranger or necro to send a pet or minion in and those 6 traps are wasted.
Meanwhile your team is capping the other 2 points.

All I see in this thread is Rod giving actual arguments and everyone else going lolno warriors suck because i say so.
You serious? Rod already stated above that he hasn’t touched Warrior since expansion, so he has not played it against any of the new elite specs (and no BWE3 doesn’t count since a lot was changed after).
So basically most of what he’s talking about is obsolete.
if you want real good feedback on state of warrior go on YouTube and look up Shinryuku who has been maining war since forever. He gives a very good account of the state of warrior post HoT.

Test of faith is still pretty insane.
My mesmer lost like 90% of his health with a rabid build. 15k hp with high toughness.
Trap popped with me right on the edge, took 4500 instant followed by ~9800 from the edge instantly.
That is just plain incorrect. Anet introduced a delay between first damage and damage taken from crossing the ring. So you CANNOT get hit by the first damage and the ring crossing damage “instantly”
If you did take that damage i would mention it in the bug forum because Test of Faith trap was nerfed to introduce that delay to allow players to escape.

But what if your main happens to be the current FOTM? now you’re screwed. Some people only have one level 80 or play one 90% of the time.

No i haven’t i know you can go into pvp with a level 2 toon but i also know a lot of people who will only play their main class in pve/wvw/pvp. They have no interest in playing other classes.

Thanks for the builds but i wish people wouldn’t use ascended gear when posting builds. It skews the stats. Most people are not going to have all the ascended pieces you are using but could probably get hold of exotic pieces quite easily. To save them the hassle of switching out all the gear in your link to exotic to see what the stats would look like its best to do it from the start.

i agree with regards to having multiple classes in a team but if matchmaking was made to only allow 1 of each class then i suspect queue times would become very very long.

theres a diff between a casual team of guildies in a team and an actual 5 man pre made with comms.
I often play with 2 to 3 guildies and we rarely use comms. Because of this we get matched against other premades and more often than not we lose. I do better when in solo q or with just 1 other guildie.

Test of Faith does some damage on trigger but Anet put a delay on when the ring of swords will damage you so you can dodge out of the ring and not take additional damage.
Dragons Maw also has an animation which takes time before it locks you in place so when you get dazed thats your signal to dodge and the dragons maw will not get you.
Same with procession of blades you can see the blades begin to appear. If you dodge as you see the animation start and when you get dazed you will avoid all the damage.

Also on a side note. My main is a guardian and (forget DH for the moment) the class mechanic was having access to Aegis/blocks…Then ANET started introducing more and more unblockable skills/traits.
I mean they sold the combat system as being active defense and if your active defense is on demand blocks/aegis etc whats the point when so many classes have unblock able?

its 1 knock back every 10s and is not controllable by the DH. Id much rather it be changed to a specific LB skill.

How do you dodge something which you cannot see?
You get dazed before it triggers the dmg part.

Only 1 trap is instant and they all put out a daze before any damage occurs.
A good player with decent ping can turn enemy Dh traps into wasted utility slots via dodges, pets, clones or invulnerability skills.
Unless things have changed recently, 2 traps are instant the others have 0.5 second casts.
They are instant cast but not instant trigger. When they trigger you get dazed but you don’t get hit with the damage till just after so you can dodge immediately when you see the daze.

From what I see very frequently, warriors can endure enough to force their enemies to pop some of their defensive utilities and then go bat-kitten crazy with rampage on flat ground where nobody can escape nor hide or just pop 8 seconds of endure pain and zerker stance for condi immunity, this is enough to (if played well) wipe even whole teams that are depleted in cooldowns.
It’s all a matter of who you fight against, honestly.

you have to remember the first rule in the QQ’ers handbook is to give out ridiculous numbers that are either not supported with screen shots or if they are they are from a unique set of circumstances where the the attacker had 25 might stacks and the defender had max vuln stacks….

this is def a l2p issue since in the last week I’ve come across a lot more players who have “learned” how to dodge out of my traps. Its definitely nowhere near as easy to instakill players like it was in the first week.
Players have learned if they see a DH standing on point they need to range him not rush in.
Hopefully Anet realizes this and doesn’t hit too hard with the nerf hammer.

i dropped my test of faith and procession of blades in preparation for pulling a group of pocket raptors and the vet but sometimes the traps just despawn and i didn’t take any damage and i didn’t see any NPC walk into it. They just disappeared and i did not get any boons of effects.
It could have been a bee or something but i did not notice it. However the trap definitely did not spawn .

Ive noticed in the last few days that i will drop my test of faith and procession of blades. I will see the traps on the ground. Then as i use my LB to pull mobs into the traps, they just disappear. No trigger no boons no effect no damage. Just gone. And in less than 10 seconds after dropping the traps.
Has anyone else seen this? This has happened more than once but i can’t replicate it since I’m just dropping the traps like i always do.

i have both and guard was my first level 80 toon. I gotta say DH is sooooo much fun. Rev takes some getting used to and I’m slowly getting there. Its really powerful. Im sitting on 3000+ power, 75+% crit chance 200% crit damage while also having 20k+ hp and ***3000+*** armor in battle.
Whats not to like about rev?
Having said that i try to play DH as much as i can before the inevitable nerf hammer hits.

i hate that we don’t have 25% moment speed bonus but i also don’t want to be tied to traveller runes so I’ve been using a sigil of speed on my longbow.
20s of swiftness on kill. I have perma swiftness in big group fights and i end up with 2 to 3 min of swiftness at the end of a battle.
Only need to nuke a group of pocket raptors with my traps as i run past and boom 2 more min of swiftness.
admittedly this is for PVE HoT stuff….you can use in WvW as well to kill ambient NPCs but i haven’t really tested it there.

thx as you said its mostly dungeon/fractal. IM looking for something that people have found effective when running around Maguuma. With all the CC knockdown/charges etc from mobs im wondering whether a shoutbow style build where you can do a lot of AOE plus remove conditions might be good. Or a Rousing Resilence based build with stunbreakers on all utilities

My biggest problem after spending quite a long time using traps is I can’t fathom why ArenaNet put the cooldown of traps on placement instead of activation. .
because sometimes you drop a trap and other players move the mob away from your trap for various reasons. With your suggestion there is no way for me to set another trap until some mob runs over it or the 5 min timer runs out. Thats terrible

I have 2 level 80s up until 2 weeks ago, They were Guard and War. I then tomed my Thief for the daredevil spec but hes been put on hold while im enjoying my guard.
Last weekend i started levelling my Rev. The secret to enjoying this game is to have at least 2 level 80s, preferably more so that when one class gets nerfed , you can switch to another and not get all frustrated waiting for a balance patch.

I dont have my rev fully levelled yet but for my other heavy classes (Guard/War) i found Hoelbrak to be the most useful multi-purpose rune set. Does the job well in PVE/WvW/Dungeons.
So if you only want or can only afford one set i like hoelbrak. Judging from the other posts, conditions are a problem in which case Hoelbrak is the one.

I havent played my warrior since HOT release.
Im currently playing my other level 80 which is DH.
May bring the warrior (banner/Phalanx Str) for dungeons still but thats it.
Having said that, they did buff the berserk spec so i may end up getting the elite done (hero challenges) just to get it out of the way but DH is so much more fun in PVE/PVP/WVW right now.

Radiance gives fury when hitting a burning target and 10% extra crit chance on burning target. Thats an easy 30% extra crit chance. The renewed justice means we get spammable F1 in PVE.
I dont really care about the burning damage but i want the extra crit chance and spammable F1 which also blinds when using radiance.

And yeah, Shiro with 5s cd 1200 targeted blink that goes through Z axis and terrain totally does not have mobility.
5s cd 1200 range is not mobility now, lol. Every other single class would sacrifice a entire set of utilities for it. Even thieves.

My guard would sell his first born for a 5 second CD teleport through all axis. And dont say Judges Intervention. Thats a 36 sec CD when traited.
Heck guards would take it with a 10 sec CD and thank their blessiings.

im running Radiance/Honor/DH with zerker/valkyrie gear. A couple of soldiers pieces to get some toughness. Longbow/Scepter/Focus All 5 traps. Im having a blast in HoT. No issues soloing pretty much everything.

I started GW2 with a guard and then moved to War which was my main for the last 10 months of so. I was even disappointed with Dragon hunter in BWE1/2 but in 3 it was much better and then got buffed while War was untouched.
Its sad that it was left behind because i really enjoy playing warrior. I hope they do buff it and they probably will but i play this game for fun and right now DH is more fun than Warrior.

I main Engineer/Scrapper, and I can tell you that 1 on 1, I can beat a Dragon Hunter. It’s about an even fight. That said, Scrapper has the advantage that it has a lot of blocks and mobility. So with a little bit of knowledge of how Dragon Hunters work, I can avoid trap bursts.
That said I have been dabbling in Dragon Hunter, and it probably is the highest damaging burst class at the moment. I can down chieftain / svanir in under 10 seconds if I really try. And to an unsuspecting squishy, if you lay traps on a point, they can pretty much instantly die just by activating your traps. In fact, I once killed 4 people simultaneously when I set up 3 traps on the orb in spirit watch, immobilized them with lb 5, and pierced them with lb 2.
I think it would probably be sufficient to nerf Dragon Hunter’s burst damage by ~5-10%. The class doesn’t really need anything changed. It can be beaten if you simply know how to play against it (watch where you walk).
From the current state of the game, I think that Thieves and Warriors could use some buffing. It doesn’t matter if I am on DH or on Scrapper, those two classes do not threaten me at all. You can ignore their contribution to a fight.

I have a warrior and guard and i have to say i agree with you. You can basically ignore a warrior. Most warriors are melee and they cant survive the trap damage. Especially if the DH is using a focus or shield on the other weapon set to knock the warrior back through the swords.

Yup as Choovanski says dont bother with Warrior. Its one of my 2 level 80s (the other being my guard) and i stoppped playing warrior as soon as HoT was released and there were no changes to the berserker spec.
It is without doubt the only elite spec that makes the class worse than before and since every other elite spec improves on the class you are at a serious disadvantage if you play a warrior.
With all the QQ around DH will get nerfed in one way or another. But as the previous poster said, the focus will shift to the next most powerful class and so on. Its just the way it is. The only difference is when Anet gets to it. Sometimes the nerfs are very quick sometimes it can be months (in the case of DD Cele Ele).
