MMR has a rating decay so if you played lots of games 2 years ago it will barely make any difference.

I like the idea of profession locking if profession MMR is applied and match making ensures no class stacking (ok maybe allow 2 of a class but not 2 pairs of classes, eg 2 thieves allowed but not 2 thieves AND 2 necros in a team)

alternative suggestion:

allow profession swapping, but block off any view of the opposing team

swapping profession to accommodate a team’s make-up is paramount to making a PUG competitive with a pre-made

if swapping was locked-out, then PUGs would end up having a lot of toxic whiny kittens crying from the beginning of the match over team makeup instead of playing the game

But the reason why someone would want to swap profession is to compliment his team comp while simultaneously taking into account enemy team comp. Allow profession swap but not allowing to view enemy team is practically worthless.

At Non Trash tier level of play there is only 1 or 2 good builds to play for each profession.

Allowing players to log and change classes after the teams have been chosen is the easiest way to game this match making system. I dont think it will be as infrequent as you think it will be.

Lock out class changes and be done with it. As you say then MMR can be class specific instead of account specific which will greatly help matchmaking and encourage players to test new classes.

Defender runes are not available in PvP. At least the last time i checked. For WvW yes they are very good.

not all classes are made the same nor perceived the same by Anet and the PvP community. Both warrior and thief class have been in meta longer than quite a few other classes.

I actually got my thief to level 80 after HOT release (so when it was complete cr8p in pvp) i liked playing something different and it was fun in HoT maps.

As much as I’ll agree that they’re far more powerful than the average specialization line, they’re supposed to be ELITE Specializations, not just another specialization… Elite specializations should be the meta for their class across the board, much like using an elite skill in GW1 was meta, even though you could opt not to… When there’s more than one choice of elite specialization things will diversify a lot.

Thats not what ANET said when they announced the specs. They said it would be an alternative way of playing the class.

Hes talking about people in your “party” not team. So if you duo/triple queue and leave mid match then you and your party members lose pips. The solo queues (pugs) in your team will not lose pips.

Hammer and Sneak Gyro are both OP. To pretend otherwise is either ignorant or disingenuous (depending on your knowledge level).

Hammer should not have both the best defense AND strongest offense in pvp. There is no reason that I should be hitting people for 6-8k with rocket charge, 6k with electro whirl and 3-4k with my block, in a row, through a stun (from hammer) while stacking vuln for funsies.

Sneak Gyro at 20 second CD makes you unkillable, for real, if you die as a scrapper you are a bad player. You can endlessly reset fights by popping sneak, running away a little ways and healing up and going back in. Between broken hammer, dura runes and sneak gyro Scrappers are fully OP in both damage and defence.

Dura runes are going away next week. Sneak Gyro CD doubled…. its a pretty big hit on Scrapper.

Can’t w8, I really wanna see them too! I’ve been theorycrafting about a possible new meta and builds for hours now, but it’s hard to do somewhat accurately without the full notes!

Let me do my homework in advance ANet – pleaaaassssseeee!

The build system is so streamlined it will take 5 minutes to work out every build on every class. Really. Its not complicated.

HAHA so true @Rickster. The build system has been dumbed down so much since the June update, it will take less than 30 min (and that’s way overthinking it) to know what build is going to be decent. Then you need to test in matches and fine tune after that.

I would also prefer splitting the amulet stats into 2 or 3 choices so we choose armor/weapon/amulet….

Now assuming ANET doesnt want to do the coding/work necessary for this then having 5 stat amulets would be better than nothing.

Saying it would be “too confusing” is an insult to the PvP player base. As mentioned above players already know how to customize stats since we have to do it in PVE and WvW anyway. Or is ANET insinuating that dedicated PvP players are dumber than PVE/WvW players?

Imho, unless they properly split pve/pvp/wvw balance, they will never be able to get good results.
There are just too many differences in those modes to keep them under the same roof.

+1 i agree. PVE/WvW/PvP really should be split. Some skills are fine in pve mode but become broken in PvP. Some skills are broken in WvW but are fine in PvP.

Agreed, I ONLY play my Ranger Ochit in PVP and am somewhat proficient on it. I am only missing the Achievement for winning 5 matches on second class and I REFUSE to drag down my Team with my sub par play on another class…result is practicing in Hot Join and unranked on a class I have no desire to play in order to not drag down my team.

Last 3 days painful and ZERO progress as I practice on a Guard I have never played…

Worst is people talking trash when practicing in Hot Join when your on a class other than your main and you know full well you would decimate that individual if you were playing on your Main…

That achievement is problematic

Holy smoke. Unless you are playing in Diamond/Legend division how can you possibly not progress playing guard (i assume you are playing DH). Its one of the easiest classes to play in lower tiers. It harder in the higher tiers if its not your main.

I understand your view but my take is that to be “Legendary” at pvp a player should be able to play more than 1 class well. And lets be honest how hard is it to get 5 wins on a profession. The cheese meta builds make it so easy. I just did my 5 wins on Engie. Made a level 2 engie. Copy/Pasted Meta marauder hammer build. A couple unranked matches and i was good to go into ranked and got the 5 wins pretty easy. I never felt like a liability to the team.

And i’m a casual player. Any good player would have done it in half the time.

Either they step up, split or go unranked the solution is easy. Lemme ask you this, if you play with a group of friends mainly, how is it possible 4 are Amber and the other is legendary? Clearly you did not play that much with them. As such I would suggest to the legendary to do what he did most of the season, group up with different people or soloq.

+1 This. whenever i hear of a Diamond/Legendary player saying “oh no now i cant q with my Amber friends in ranked anymore….ANET is not letting me q with friends”

Well they obviously didnt queue with them that much before otherwise they would be Diamond/Legendary by now or at least ruby. You’re not fooling anyone.

So go play ranked with your “usual team” or go unranked with your friends. Or they need to accept the price of playing with you is harder matchups in ranked.

Ranger
We’ll be looking into some of the ranger’s less used traits and increasing both defensive and offensive options while giving a few specialized traits a bit more allure. In the first quarterly update, we’ll also be improving the ranger’s shout utility category, giving them more unique utility. In the future, we’ll continue to explore ways to improve on the ranger’s ties to both their pets and nature. We’re still looking at the druid’s viability in group scenarios and will continue to monitor its overall effectiveness, making changes where necessary

Ive resisted playing Ranger in pvp up until now but if DH, Rev and Scrapper (my current 3 pvp toons) are going to get nerfed, no prizes to guess which one i will be experimenting with next month. FOTM ftw! haha

My DragonHunter’s looks are based around a Knight in Shining Armor, so Celestial/White Gold etc. So i would go with Sunrise (if i could be bothered to do Map Completion, which interests me about as much as it does getting a root canal done)

But yeah if your armor is dark go for Twilight

If you make guard LB weaker than Ranger LB can guards also get some kind of Pet that does mega DPS in pvp. thanks

please take a look a dragonhunter longbow skill trueshot too, that skill does so much dmg while on ranger the only dmg skill is on a long channel so it is much more easy to avoid its dmg
at the moment the dragonhunter is the much better ranger
not only are its traps much strong the bow is also stronger as on ranger
oh and of course improving some AA on ranger would be nice too as it does not even do as much dmg as current thief autoattacks

Aside from skill adjustments, another way we can adjust balance in PvP is by looking at the runes/sigils/amulets that are available for use through the customization panel.

Amulets
Split the amulets into three items using the existing combos (recommend 40/30/30 split). This gives much needed stat customization. In particular, it allows for a proper mix of vitality and toughness (less all of one and none of the other) while maintaining a healthy balance of power, precision, and ferocity, which is holding back a lot of potential builds. This lack of stat customization is part of what is contributing to celestial being so prominent. Further, if any particular combos seem too strong (Minstrel, Viper, etc), they can be restricted to one or two of the slots.

Give us a selection for stats for Weapons/Armor/Amulet using the current selections so we can have varied builds. Not extreme DPS or extreme bunker!

Dont insult your player base by implying they are too dumb to be able to handle choosing 3 items. It would actually be a nerf to cele without even having to remove it.
