I started season 2 late and played pretty casually but what i did was start playing solo Q. When i had a good match or even a bad match i would whisper someone who i felt was playing decently and asked if they wanted to duo Q. Most times they would say yes. We would then play another match. Depends on how we felt we would either stay duo q or invite another to make a Trio.
We never went higher than Trio.
I made enough similarly ranked friends to be able to duo q at least half my matches (probably 75% of my matches). This enabled me to keep approx 65-70% win rate this season without trying too hard.
(I played Scrapper, DH and Rev depending on team comp)
Teaming with someone you feel plays decently reduces the “OMG you guys are all noobs” effect.

I add all the people i don’t like playing with to my friend list and give them tasteful nicknames like donkey shlong or sack beard

tbh ive not seen that many rev stacking lately but i have seen a lot of necro stacking. Had 2 matches today with 4 enemy necros.
But i agree something needs to be done with class stacking although if there was better balance class stacking wouldn’t really be a problem.

No Not Mallyx/Herald. I mean Mallyx/Shiro.
The gameplay is very different. Not so much burst since its true hybrid. At the end of each match I’ve usually done 50% power damage and 50% condi damage.
I’ve never lost a 1v1 vs a power rev so far. And it does much better vs necro and mesmers than a power rev does.
Like i said before a power rev is much better if you have good elementalist in your team.
You need to make sure you take retribution line for the stability on dodge since CC will kill you especially in Mallyx stance.
Good Mesmers are still the toughest matchup for me. But since they are the best 1v1 class at the moment its no surprise.
Lastly you don’t have as much sustain as a power rev does but since you take virtually no condi damage it doesn’t feel that bad.

Yup…Thats what i do against condi heavy enemy teams. Condi Rev is actually quite decent in SoloQ. Power Rev is better if you get lucky and have decent support in your team.
The torment/confusion spam from condi rev is great against all the button mashing that the dodge spamming/Dagger 3 spamming those thieves do.

It really is not practical at all when you write these wordy posts about your ideal game, as if GW2 could become self aware of its flawed theoretical foundations and be redesigned.
Think low hanging fruit – like what are the most reasonable, feasible, and effective changes that can be made to have the biggest improvement in the enjoyment in PvP?
It’s unanimous from the community’s word of mouth on balance: uniformly nerf the survivability, pressure, or both, of Elite specs. PvP has almost zero build choice because we tacked on 1 ultra elite playstyle per class to classes that often had multiple strong playstyle previously.

Heck even if they use a blanket “Increase CD of all elite spec traits/utilities by 20%, Decrease Damage of all Elite Spec traits/utilities by 20%”. This would IMO put us in a better place than we are now.
Of course I’m vein overly broad but you get the picture. Stop making the Elite Spec an absolute necessity for each class.

Moa on a 3 min cd is fine. Its the double back to back moa using CS that is not. And mesmers in a team fight with all that visual noise going around e.g. traps etc etc. yeah good luck seeing that moa coming.
And any team with half a brain that calls target (then moas that target) , enemy is dead on the first moa. Do again on second target. Thats 2 enemy dead. GG win mid fight. That 4v4 at mid becomes 4v2 in under 20 sec, meanwhile locking that player out of his skills.
Heck even soloq pugs know to focus the bird running around like a headless chicken.

Well of course the only thing that probably needs some adjustment is continuum split and moa. But Anet have a tendency to nerf the peripherals and the underused, so quite literally anything could be up for the chop.
I agree…..i think mesmer needs some improvements in places of course but def that double moa is stupid. fixing the CS with Moa interaction and giving some love elsewhere should be welcomed by most players even mesmers.

Duration is fine at 10 seconds as you can still dodge and use skill 5 to easily disengage.
LOL. 10 sec is an eternity in pvp. If you can’t down someone in the 10 sec they are in moa form…no problem you get to moa again immediately after.

Yup id take a necro and chronomancer vs 2 power revs anyway. Especially since revs are weak to condis.

Have to be honest a lot of the feedback is worthless because most people that think they are in MMR hell are not and imo the system is mostly working fine and the problems are more related to the limits of whats in the queue at any given time. I agree though they should tell us what they are going to do so we can debate the merits of it.
Despite the developer saying they know there are real problems with match making and they are trying to fix it for season 3?

Perhaps our definitions are different. I did just come back after a year, but I played off and on sporadically. By meta, I meant a requirement and a MUST have class for your tourney setup. I have no qualms with admitting wrongfulness, and there is no need to be kitteny about it. If you’re able to link a top team that used a hambow warrior and d/p thief I’d love to see it. Then I will simply say, I was wrong and you were right, like an adult.
I dont have a link but ROM from Orange Logo played ShoutBow warrior and was warrior main until HoT release. Im sure he didn’t pick Warrior just to handicap his team. It was a very powerful build and had a solid spot on the team.

Any burn guard will tell you it’s not the team fight cleanses or necro throwbacks that hurts us… it’s the large amounts of Stuns & CC HoT puts out… we’re forced to go DH for the sustains & Stability gains.
This build, like all other burn guard builds, either lack stability&sustains or lacks burst dmages that DH can dish out. Burn guardian is in a bad state, just like all the other non-elite specs.
Listen to this ^ guy. He probably knows more about Burn Guards than any other poster on this forum.

However i will say Warrior sux b$lls in pvp know. Its outclassed by everything else. I can say this since i mained Warrior in PvP before HoT. Since HoT i havent even bothered. It doesnt take a genius to know that every player would do much better on any other class than he would on Warrior.

You have 2 condition cleansing 32s and 35s cd. And can only dump burning on the enemy. With the condi meta out there (Necro/Reapers heck even condi wars). They will cleanse that in a heartbeat and drop a few condis for you to pop COP. You will most likely be using Purging Flames offensively so that will be on CD. Then they drop their condi bomb and the guardian will be dead.
Dont get me wrong, i played burn guard back when it first became kind of a thing but now its nothing.

What bugged me the most about leveling my rev was the lack of movement speed. Only Glint and Shiro have movement-speed skills, that’s why I probably used Shiro and Mallyx when leveling. Impossible Odds was weird on the other hand, first you move really slow, you pop IO and move really fast, then go back to normal movement which at this point feels like crawling… I was so happy when I got Superior Speed Runes. I was even more happy when I unlocked Facet of Elements.
Really???? I had no trouble moving around maps as Revenant while levelling. I put a sigil of speed on both weapon sets. With those and phase traversal i was moving around at dizzying speeds.

Judges Intervention into True Shot combo has downed many players. (can 1 shot Thieves and Eles)
I know because ive done it many times.
Now you could say Phase Traversal has a shorter cd but it also has an energy cost attached to it too.

DH has a lot of AOE with traps so its easy to get high damage on it. Doesnt necessarily mean its a good thing. Better to do 300k in a match but have it spike down enemies than 750k in aoe where no one actually dies since it was spread over 3 or 4 enemy players at a time with an Ele or Druid easily healing the team.
I always do more damage on my DH than on my Rev but my Rev gets more players downed.

Ok other than NOOOO are there any actual arguments against this? There is no correlation to skill in any of the tiers, so this has nothing to do with competition. You will get better matchups if we base it on MMR and remove the pip loss system.
Or do people here not want better match ups? Just want to be carried into a high league so you have a special marker next to your name?

Hi.
How much damage does the final salvo trait actually inflict and does it daze or do anything else when it drops the lightning field? (i know we get superspeed). The tooltips on the build editor are not always accurate i found. Also when i tested on practice dummies i get stability when i start the gyro but not when it explodes. The tooltip on build editor shows stability on both activation and destruction.

It seems to me that most of the frustration, complaining, horror stories and quitting all comes back to the same thing, pip loss.
This system of losing progress on something you’ve worked hard for is not present in any other area of the game, and is hurting PvP. I propose that pip loss be removed from the tracks up until diamond. Currently the different tiers have no bearing on skill at all and are just leading to endless frustration. Make the tiers a secondary reward structure that only advances upon wins, but does not lose anything on losses.
This will instantly solve many of the complaints and frustrations that players have.
Once you reach diamond tier the system can resume how it currently is and still allow for the competition and extra advancement. Matchmaking will return to being based on MMR alone and not mixed in with the various tiers.
No just NO! PVP leagues is NOT a grind/reward track. Its a competitive ranking system. I would personally vote for Pip/Tier AND Division loss in all Divisions except Amber.

I noticed better games in Unranked also. Ranked games can be quite bad, because the backpiece is drawing players, of different skill levels, to it.
I’ve been casually playing in Ranked, making my way up, as I’m not really bothered about the backpiece. I did however get a pug of great people. After the game, we all teamed up in HoTM, as we had a good comp and we all managed to work really well together.
Pretty much sums up what i do. I started ranked this season very late and barely do more than a couple ranked matches per night (and not even every night).
I do however play a few unranked matches due to the fact that i actually get better closer matches in it. And i can team up with guildies/friends who are in completely different divisions without having to mess up peoples pip scores etc.
I dont care about the backpiece and giving the small amount of time i spend on this game dont expect to get it anyway. However all these PVE’rs are dying for the backpiece which means Ranked is infested with PVE’rs who dont have a clue and only have tunnel vision for the backpiece.
Unranked obviously has players testing new builds or classes but generally i would argue that these people are actually “trying” to learn about PvP and improve (or at least have fun), which can make for a better, less toxic experience.

I would argue the best condition management line is corruption since it gives resistance . Anyone taking that line is a condi rev not a power rev. I don’t consider invocation’s one condition cleanse per swap to be of any real use .

Good write up but i gotta say in this current Meta where you see quite a lot of Necros and Condi Mesmers, i’m doing much better in soloQ as a Condi Rev than i do as a Power Rev.

I would be ineterested to hear why not? Of course i agree that personal score is useless but thats very different to personal stats. At least if there was some intelligent way to take into account the different roles people tend to play. DPS, Bruiser, Support, Bunker, etc.
okay, let me give you some scenarios.
An engi contesting an enemy controlled far point, fighting 1v2. Engi’s teammates fighting a 4v3 at mid. So obviously the four teammates will gain way more personal stats compared to the engi, because they are not only in a teamfight(AOE give you more stats) but also outnumber the opposition. But can you say the engi is a worse player? I would even go as far as saying he is the actual real MVP!
Also, tanking damage is a credit? What about ppl playing profession like thief who spend most of the time evading attacks? You can’t quantify that stats.
Then on doing damage: stats heavily favors ppl playing sustain damage rather than burst damage. Burst damage roles will do way less damage than sustain damage roles in a game but that sudden pressure can put opponents off-guard. This again can’t be quantified.
As you said, there are so many different roles in the game. They just contribute in very different way that is not possible to be compared fairly by some quantified stats.

All stats should be used along with damage dealth etc, like Healing self/others, Boons applied self/others. Conditions cleared self/others. So as you said every style of player can be accounted for.
