For all of you stuck in Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, wherever just take Elsa’s advice and “let it go” and you will have a much more enjoyable time. Bruce Lee said that in an engagement do not worry over winning and losing, just focus on the moment and what you need to do.
Probably the best advice i’ve read.

Honestly, I would be happy with a cool down reduction to all skills (not weapon) by 20%ish. Every other profession can be in your face and survive mostly everything via a mix of weapon and other skills, while the warrior can’t.
Pretty much this.
I know its like using a sledge hammer to kill an ant but still if ANET increased the CD of every utility by 20% and nerfed the damage by 20%, for every class (except warrior) we would probably be in a better spot than we are now.

Since it was a buff i knew it was a joke. Guardians don’t get buffs.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
I know I am not the best in pvp, but I am not a bad player either……. I am willing to pay a team to just get me through the next 3 tiers to finish sapphire. I only have a bit over 42 gold in game, but if someone or some team gets me through this to ruby I will give everything I have to them.
I can’t understand why people do this? It reminds me of those cases where people pay for someone to take their term papers for them.
You’re either good enough to get to next division or you’re not. I know the MMR match making issue, i have friends who have been through it. But why not make some pvp friends and duo/trio queue to avoid some of those “bad” team mates?
I don’t pvp much this season (only a few matches here and there) but i almost always start of in SoloQ. I then ask a SoloQ team mate or heck even an enemy player Solo Queuer (if i lose) if they want to team up. I usualy ask the person who i felt was playing reasonably well. They almost always say yes. Now i have a duo q team. I do it again on next match and now we’re a Trio Q. You may be surprised at how beneficial that is to your game enjoyment and winning chances.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
If im solo Q (which i do most of the time) and i see at least 3 players on enemy team are Necro/Condi mes, i switch from my Scrapper to pretty much anything else.
Before anyone says its a L2P issue, Necro is listed as hard counter to Scrapper and i definitely feel it whenever i decide to try on my Scrapper.

Or
OrWe just reduce the damage from chill and take the ridiculous boon corrupt off scepter auto-attack.
+1
Chill reducing CD recovery of skills is pretty powerful and fine by me, but to also do a lot of damage is just plain wrong.

Ive seen some really good warriors. However i will say they tend to perform best when they are not focused and/or they have good team support. Thats when their DPS can really hurt someone. But also they tend to do better against people who are not used to fighting them.
They need to be a lot better than the person they are fighting.
So basically , any other class could do what they do and more with lower skill floor.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
Why not use the one on Metabattle? Its been tested and used by a LOT of people. Designed basically by the Pros. If you are new that’s where you should probably start and then adjust it based on your experience and preferences.

haha . Would be funny if they actually did that. Retaliation boon would be the perfect counter to Warrior burst.

Well i decided to switch to Condi Mallyx Rev instead of Power Rev for my SoloQ/DuoQ games and i am doing much….Much……MUCH better.
Doesn’t matter if my team doesn’t have any support classes, i can 1v1 and team fight and with all the necros/mesmers out there i can negate a huge amount of their damage. Plus give party wide Resistance to my team at mid fights to help mitigate some of the initial enemy condi burst.
Don’t get me wrong i really like power rev but if i dont have a friendly Ele that knows what he/she is doing i tend to die quickly to condi bombs in this current AOE condi meta.
Again i’m still messing around in lower tiers since i started the Season late and i only pvp ranked a few games every couple days so disclaimer could be im just not experienced enough with power rev.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
Please try to stay a bit on topic, I want to hear about your experiences, what you played, how you played, and how much you enjoyed it… I know many people (myself included) don’t like the way metas have gone since the trait changes.
OK
Warrior was my main for PVP prior to HOT, loved GS/Ham, Hambow, Shoutbow.
Did a lot more WvW than PvP though.
Now im DH, Rev, Scrapper. I dont enjoy pvp as much even though its still 99% of my GW2 playing time. I guess its due to the crappy MatchMaking system. Im winning blow out games or losing blow out games. Very few close matches in ranked compared to before leagues. for the time being im on the good side of MMR Hell (won 14 of my last 18 matches) but they are not exactly fun since they are 500/150 type scores.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
Yup before trait line rebalance (and removal of trait line stat bonuses)
Also they went overboard with condi burst. I think prior they were probably a bit too weak but now they are too strong. Needs a bit of a nerf.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
Grats!!!
question: with wanders amulet you have no power damage so how do you deal with classes like Ele (diamond skin) or other good condi cleanse classes?
My condi rev has 80-90% up time with resistance boon while in Mallyx stance and if i see a condi war i spend most of my time in Mallyx. If i come across a Mercenary amulet condi war at least they can do some power damage to me.
Again congrats on your progress!

Not trying to hijack the thread but if im doing HP in HoT Maps i dont have scrapper unlocked yet. What build should i use while running around getting these hero points (no hammer or scrapper) Thanks
pretty much whatever you want as long as it includes [mecha legs or streamlined kits] and [rocket boots and or eg]. id also avoid turrets besides healing turret because theyre overnerfed and have never been great in pve.
if you need help at champs, ask map chat and someone will come (eventually) because you get map currency. theyre trivial with ~5 people (except vamp beast in vb), and not bad at all with 2+. but you can get your full spec with only about 3 champ hps iirc if you do all the other hps. but theres no point when you can ask map chat to help with champs.
Thanks yeah ive unlocked elites on my Warrior, Guardian, Rev and Thief. I have a commander TAG which i used to quickly get help for HPs when HOT was first released. I just havent been there in ages so dont know how busy it is now and didnt know if i have to solo a lot now.

i saw some more DH Trapper rune guardians last night. Definitely not worth taking. They can’t kill anyone. All they do is delay their deaths. And remember stealthing doesnt help you hold/contest a node. It helps them avoid some power damage but in this condi meta we have, the condi damage keeps ticking .

Compromise between Checkpoints and Div/Tier Drops
So it seems problems are occurring with players grinding to division/tiers higher than they should be and so getting lots of blowout losses. Instead of implementing straight out Division and/or Tier (emerald/sapphire) drops, how about the following “soft” drops.
1. Amber: Currently you cannot lose pips or tiers. Make it so that if you lose THREE matches in a row you lose a pip. You still cannot lose tiers. People will still be able to grind to Emerald for a sense of progression.
2. Emerald/Sapphire. Currently you can lose pips but not tiers. Make it so that if you are at the start of a tier and lose THREE matches in a row you drop to the tier below. If you are at the bottom of the division and lose FIVE matches in a row you drop to the Division below.
NOTE: you cannot drop back to Amber.
3. Ruby/Diamond/Legend: Currently you can lose pips and tiers but not division. If you are at the bottom of the division and lose THREE matches in a row you drop to the Division below.
The above will only work if ANET also fixes its MM issues from Season 2.
Any thoughts?

And really, good players are good players because they play well. Winning is just the side effect. If you want to play well, focus on you, not the score.
+1 Good advice
Ive been in countless matches since i started playing this game where we were losing with maybe a 0.01% chance of a comeback but its always better to keep playing than AFK’ing since i can always learn more even if its just another fight 1v1, 2v2 or whatever before game ends.

I’ve gone losing streaks over 30, playing 10+ hour days and I’m still Sapphire T3.
Holy Mother of Grinding!!!
Isn’t the conventional wisdom here to stop playing for a day (or at least a few hours) after you have a 3 loss streak?

I see this at work all the time. The young college grads that can take constructive criticism are the ones that usually end up doing well for themselves. The ones that become defensive and refuse to incorporate the advice into their work are the ones that usually get let go in the next round of staff cut backs.

Engage close, get off dps skills (hammer 2, 3, aa1)
Switch EG hit with 3, 2, aa1. Drop light field on top of necro, acid bomb, then cancel leap. Hammer 3 should be off, or close to off CD, try to have all leap finishers within the light circle. This combo gives you 8s retaliation followed by 9s I think of light field. By now, you should have done enough dmg that necro pops corruption and reaper shroud. And this is where timing turns these into easy fights.
As soon as reaper pops, drop bulwark gyro, tag reaper with blast gyro. Blast gyro is the quiet hero these days. Close quarters it is a high dmg aoe knock back that people just aren’t looking to deflect. Plus side, if you miss the dart, gyro will hit closest enemy and prob hit target anyways. Amazing against reaper. High damage, puts their dps literally in the dirt, and you have solid 3’s to wreck their shroud, use blast gyro gratuitously as its cd is short. Final Salvo obviously. Makes the 3 gyro with eg build very viable. Use eg3 to stop druid heals, blast gyro can be used to take them down as well. Currently, only class that stands up consistently to scrapper is a well played torment mes.
What Amulet and Runes do you use with this setup?
Thanks

I came across a Trapper Rune DH the other day and ok so he avoids some burst by stealthing at the right time but he couldn’t kill anyone the whole match. He dropped traps and ran. Someone triggers traps and he gets revealed. There are way better runes to take if you are playing a DH

So apologies in advance for not diving deep into the MMR calculation code but with all these threads on MMR Hell and how losing 3 or 4 games in a row could doom you to MMR Hell i have a question.
How quickly does the system change your MMR to the point that you are consigned to MMR Hell after a very short losing streak?
I mean players have hundreds and even thousands of ranked matches. A few losses shouldn’t change your MMR unless there is a significant weighting attached to recent games vs zero or very low weighting attached to older matches.
I haven’t played that much ranked this season due to work commitments and other Real Life stuff but my last 10 ranked matches have been 8 wins 2 losses.
Thanks

1v1 them with ease unless he gets Moa’d
And even then I’ve seen revs with +10s of resistance plus other boons (making the strip boon from sword useless)
Mallyx revs are very very rare. Most are power revs. And Resistance is not as easily stacked as it used to be since Demonic Defiance trait was nerfed to a 5 sec ICD.
Pain Absorption can give you a lot of resistance if you use it right after you get condi bombed. But it costs 35 energy (when you start with 50) it doesnt exactly leave you with much left to hit back with.

The new trait system is what destroyed balance and the reason I left the game.
This.
Before Cele was removed, i discussed it in threads before but i firmly believe the dumbing down and lack of trait diversity is what killed pvp. I’l leave this here :-
“I think another route cause to all this imbalance is they way they dumbed down all the pvp stats and trait lines.
There is simply no room for experimenting. Because there are only 3 traits per trait-line now, there is a much bigger chance of x being obvious pick over y, and z. rather than having 5(or was it 6) different options. Most classes are now tunnel visioned into 1-2 builds with little room to customise. This has massively contributed to how ‘meta’ forced this game is.
With less diversity in your playing style options, the less people are going to experiment and create their own builds/styles of play. Now, with Elite specs, that has turned your 6 optional trait specs into 5, because the Elites are pretty much a must. Again, just dumbs down everything and forces people to stay in certain meta builds due to lack of diversity in traits or stats. What’s the point in 6 trait specs when only MAXIMUM 2 builds are viable from those 6 specs on any class.
Secondly, as was stated above in this post, pvp stats are also dumbed down.
Before, when you could mix and match runes, there was greater flexibility of what stats you wanted. I feel amulets are far too simplistic….forcing everyone to play, pure bunker, pure dps (condi or power). Not only is there no ‘trinity’ in this game….it’s worse, there is now only 2 viable options. Unfortunately, because of how amulets and runes are balanced, the trade offs between survivability, damage and skill are too greatly favoured towards survivability.
If there are only 2 builds to choose from, bunker or pure dps, and the aim of GW2 PvP is conquest…shock, you get a constant bunker meta.Every day i wish i could theory craft random, exciting builds for my classes, like the old days. Mix and match runes, stats depending on what traits…. but you cannot. There is no trait diversity now, and all the trait lines are too forced towards certain traits, especially with the elite spec now being imperative instead of optional.
Basically, it’s too easy to find the optimal meta build for any class now because of the lack of any real stat/trait customisations."
+1 well said.

MM is and has been doing what it is intended to do: force average players to stay down, while helping above average players climb faster.
Does anyone else think this is how its supposed to be???
Systems should not be biased. Players should move up if they win and move down if they lose. A MM system should not “force” or “help” anyone.

Even the iOS MMO game i played years ago had ingame Voice COMMS for pvp. You can just change your settings to mute if you dont want to talk/listen but at least you could listen to team mates.
IM sometimes in situations where i dont want an active mic but i would love to hear teammates call for help etc without having to resort to map chats.

As Euthymias said, the condi cleanse and stun break on legend swap can be very useful for power revs since they have crap condi cleanses.
I just really like retribution for the stability on dodge. There is so much CC flying around that having “Unwavering Avoidance” plus “Enhanced Bulwark” means you don’t get thrown around like a rag doll.

You’ll probably find yourself using Shiro’s escape (and possible also close, too) more. Remember too that Glint has a stun break on turning over Facet of Darkness. I’d also suggest you test replacing shield with axe or offhand sword – Crystal Hibernation does much less healing these days, and it’s a block but it’s a rooted block, which can get you killed as much as it saves you. Axe 4 will teleport you to your target even if you’re immobilized (you stay immobilized, but it still moves you) and 5 is pull CC; Sword 4 is a block and Sword 5 is a shadowstep retreat + pull, which requires a hit but will also teleport you backwards when immobilized, so in a pinch it could get you out of AoE madness in a fight.
Thats good to know. Thanks!
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
I’m not a great player by any stretch, but neither am I awful (somewhere between average and above average, hit Ruby without a ton of problem last season and probably could have made Diamond if I had tried), and I actually found Rev more than a bit tricky to pick up. I tried the condi Mallyx in S1 and balancing resistance with trying to put on much real damage felt really difficult. Switched to the power shiro build for S2, and while things go much better, it still feels like I have to be on my toes more than with other classes or I’ll mismanage and be dead. I’ve even found this to be true for HoT PvE stuff, where I die way more than I ought to because I mess up.
Does this match other peoples’ experiences?
I definitely feel that you need to be on your toes when it comes to skill rotations/energy management and legend swapping. When done right Rev is pretty strong. When done wrong you eat dirt and get stomped.
I have about as many matches done on my Rev as i have on my Scrapper and i can definitely say Scrapper is more forgiving and easier to get the DPS and heal combos off than Rev (for me at least)

HI i pretty much soloQ 95% of the time and like to play Rev occasionally along with my Scrapper and DH.
I know Rev is weak to condi and really shines when you have a good support class player in your team. So my question is for SoloQ since you cannot be sure what your team comp is going to be and what support you may get, whats the best SoloQ build for power Rev.
Ive seen Metabattle but i assume that is META when in the right team comp.
For example should i run Sigils of Generoisty and Purity on both weapon sets and also Hoelbrak runes instead of strength runes. Should i go Invocation for the condi clean on legend swap? That would mean losing stability on dodge is a whole other mess with the AOE CC flying around?
Thanks
