Do longtime players get free items too? (Wizard Hat; Merged)

SpyderArachnid.5619

You already have more than they are getting. You got the Halloween Event, Lost Shores Event, you have all the gear, weapons, money, etc you have earned since you bought the game, and the time from when you bought it, to now invested.

They are starting fresh with nothing. The hat is just a promotion incentive to give them for buying the game now. Just because you bought the Deluxe Edition awhile ago, doesn’t mean you are instantly entitled to future promotions for free that involve your Edition.

If you want the hat, go buy another copy of the game. Simple as that. Promotions come and go on a regular basis. All companies do it. This is nothing new, and you are not entitled to have those items from the promo just cause you bought the same thing awhile ago.

Not receiving a karka chest in mail.

I dced in the middle of the event and didn’t get mailed a chest, and I’m pretty annoyed that i didn’t get a chest while people who did the event over 4 times and looted got a chest in the mail.

They’ve already stated that if you didn’t get a chest (and were deserving of one), to contact support today.

We don’t really need another thread on this.

About enemies resetting/invulnerable...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

Yeah I never understood this mechanic at all in any game.

If you find yourself in a tactical position, you should be able to lay waste to whatever you are attacking. If they can’t reach you or get to you, tough luck. It’s called playing smart. If anything, they should run for cover or try to avoid your attacks.

But instead you get this ridiculous invulnerability and instant heal enemy because you played smart. Basically being punished for smart thinking and using tactics.

I’m sorry but if I am up on a vantage point and shooting down at my enemy from a position where they can’t reach me, they shouldn’t magically become invulnerable and get all their health back instantly. It just doesn’t make any sense at all why games introduce this frustrating mechanic.

You don’t get this advantage in PvP if your enemy is shooting you from a point you can’t reach. So why do NPCs get this advantage?

PuG runs will feel like spamfests, yes. Cause there is no coordination or proper setups before fights. No one thinks about bringing skills to work together or buffs to help out the whole group. They are just trying to get a random group together, complete the dungeon, and be off on their merry way.

Running with friends or a guild is where the dungeons become better. Also finding people that actually know how to play their class and use mechanics makes it that much more better as well. That is when people actually bring the proper skills for group work, dodge when needed and know when to switch weapons to keep the heat off. Have a well-taught group makes all the difference over a PuG.

And like others have already said, there is no main tank or heals like in other MMOs. There is no threat generation or taunts to keep aggro. The game is based around supporting each other through control, support, and damage, not tank, healer, and dps.

Which gem store items are mandatory?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

Only reason gems are going up now, is cause of Wintersday. People are stocking up for whatever will be in the store for the holidays.

About the same thing happened for Shadow of the Mad King. People want to make sure they are prepared ahead of time before prices go up even more during the events.

But as of currently, there is nothing in the store that is mandatory. Everything is fluff or convenience. The only thing some people might consider mandatory, is bank space. Just cause bank space is rather limited on its own, especially with all your characters sharing the same bank. But that is also only if you hoard a bunch of things.

Or you could just do what I did and make your own personal guild. Then just buy the guild bank to use as extra storage. No need to use the gem store for that.

They need to just add a sellback option for high-end items.

WoW has this currently where you buy Honor/VP/JP/Conquest gear, you can sell it back within an hour (or is it two?) for a full refund. It helps if you made a mistake and bought the wrong piece.

They could add this to high-end purchases. Just attach a sellback timer to items you buy, that allows you to return the item for a full refund within a certain time limit. But once you use the item or equip the item, you can no longer return it.

Lost Shores Participation Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

How do you determine who had looted before? You would think Anet will look at the log, and scan every single name again to flag those? Its a tedious job, pretty well i can bet they wouldn’t do it.
Anet has the right not to give you anything at all.

And it’s easier for them to find out who and why they didn’t get the chest? It is much easier to find out who looted the chest than it is to find out who didn’t and why.

With who already looted it, it is a scan of who already looted that specific chest. That is it.

When it comes to who didn’t get it, there is a lot more to search for. They have to check who was DC’d during that time period of the event and when the chest was up for that minute, who didn’t get the chest in the time it was up and for what reason (lag, rezzing someone, waiting for a rez, DC, etc), who couldn’t log in cause of the login server being down, who couldn’t log in cause of constant DC’s upon logging in, and many more reasons as to why they couldn’t access the chest. They have to check that for every world and every overflow as well.

So which sounds more tedious in the end?

Lost Shores Participation Reward

I’m just trying to figure out how they are going to decide who gets the reward and who doesn’t.

I mean there was many factors to take into account on why people couldn’t participate:

-DC’d during event and couldn’t loot chest
-Didn’t loot chest fast enough before it despawned
-Couldn’t log in cause the login servers were down so they missed the event

And a few others as well. How are they going to know who had these issues, and who simply just wasn’t there? Myself for example, couldn’t even log in for the event cause the login server was down. Then when I got in, I got DC’d and kept getting DC’d a couple more times after that. By the time I finally got into the game, the event was over. So while I wanted to be there for the event, I couldn’t even log in to play it cause of server issues and DC’s.

As for the reward itself, I really hope it isn’t like what Moxic said, and it is just a “buy off”. People ended up with the Accessory, and 20 Slot, and a Legendary to boot. I hope the compensation is of equal value at least.

I didnt get a precursor. You should get a shot, not a guarantee.

Agreed, and I didn’t mean to insinuate that I wanted a free Legendary.

I think the best solution would be to run the event again. It’s already in the system of who looted the chest, so they couldn’t loot it again. They could run the event on a loop for a day or two so those who had issues or didn’t get to participate, can do it the normal way and have a chance with the chest for themselves.

No reason to do a “you didn’t win, so here’s a copy of our home game” thing. It seems like way too much trouble to go through to check all the logs and such and then try to come up with a suitable reward that players will be happy with. Would be much easier to just run the event again so they can participate in the battle and get their own loot.

Waypoint Costs are a Problem!

“Closest Waypoint is Free”

You know, I have yet to see this. Every time I have died, the closest waypoint was not free for me. I have always had to pay. And it’s not because there is a closer waypoint. I am literally right next to a waypoint sometimes when I die, and yet I still have to pay to teleport to it. So from my personal experience, this is not true.

But I do agree that waypoints are rather expensive.

They should be a static fee. No matter what level you are. It just seems silly that when I am level 10, and use a waypoint, it is only a few copper. Yet if I use that exact same waypoint at level 80, it is a few silver. It doesn’t make any sense why it should be more expensive because I am a higher level. If anything, it should be cheaper because I am a more accomplished hero and have done so much for Tyria that waypoints should be on the house for all my heroic deeds. Yet the newbie swinging a wooden sword and wearing his helmet backwards is getting cheaper rates than the Grand Hero of Tyria.

I think the best thing they can do is reduce the stats of Ascended gear to Exotic level.

Then remove the bonus stats for a gem, and keep the Infusion Slot. This way, people can decide if they want to use Exotics for the Gem Slot buff, or use Ascended gear for the Infusion Slot buff. But either way, they will both have the same stats, just one will have a Gem Slot, while the other will have an Infusion Slot.

I don’t see why you can only see 7 at a time. I mean, you make 8 profession on release, and there is plenty of space on the screen to have that one extra box. So why limit it to only 7? Should be at 8.

1. Christmas Karka

2. Risen mini

3. A gear treadmill. Well a gear treadmill toy in game that was actually a treadmill would be funny

I can already tell you that in the Gem Store, there will be:
- Tixx’s Gift (contains random wintersday items).
- Mini Tixx.
- Mini Christmas Golem.
- Mini Quaggan (okay, let’s stop dreaming)
- Random Christmas Dyes.
- Ascended Christmas Hat, 0.00000001% in Tixx’s Gift.

Yes I think you have it down, but what costumes will be on offer?

I would love to see something like this for the ladies. Less skimpy though, but at least the Hood style and Boots.

Ranged Tank Profession

Well Warriors just got a buff to Range, so there’s that.

You can just run as a Range Warrior. You do more damage with a Bow than a Ranger does or use a Rifle and Snipe people for 10-20k damage.

EVERYONE does more damage than a Ranger does, no matter the weapon :p

I just mean when it comes to the Ranger’s “main” weapon. You would think that a Ranger would be the best when it comes to using Bows, as that is their weapon of choice. :P

Really? WOw thats a shame..How could a warrior with a bow do more damage than a ranger with a bow..doesn’t seem right :|

Yeah it’s a weird story (from my understanding). Rangers kept getting nerfed cause they were the profession of choice for Bots (again, from my understanding. I may be wrong). Then they went and buffed Warriors this last patch, and now they outshine everything in terms of damage overall (which they were already doing before, but guess they needed another buff. One of those flavor of the month things I guess).

snip

It does not make combat easier nor does it give you an edge. It makes one single keypress equivalent to holding down (or not holding down) right click. It often makes combat more difficult as it takes away some control from your character, thus why I stopped using it. Some people, especially people with arthritis, carpel tunnel, etc, find it makes the game less painful to play.

ArenaNet has said they’re not okay with one button doing something that would normally only be possible with multiple buttons. They’ve never said anything about the difference between key down vs key press. Thus it’s arguably a bit in the gray area, but there are no records of anyone getting banned for it, presumably because ArenaNet doesn’t feel it is ban-worthy.

In terms of things that modify graphics without modifying the client, those are even more blatantly not against the policy for obvious reasons. Modifying graphics via modifying the client is definitely gray area, though Guild Wars 1 has an official wiki page dedicated to a popular program that does just that.

It’s pretty much all gray area. Claiming someone will get banned for it is often incorrect (outside of blatantly botting and what-not etc). Claiming someone won’t get banned for it is, at best, an educated assumption. In the end, it’s up to the user to decide if they want to dabble with it or not.

The key holding is the camera, which he is using as the aim tool. Then that key that should be held down normally, is instead assigned to dodge. So he has one button doing two different things for him. He has the right mouse button being held down permanently to control the aim of the camera, along with it also being used for dodging.

Like you said, Anet is not okay with one button doing something that would normally only be possible with multiple buttons. Which is exactly what this mod is doing. It is automatically holding down your mouse button and allowing you to use that same button for another action (dodge in his case).

While I’ve gone through these documents before, going through them again, this is the only section that talks about third party programs being used by players:

You may not use any third-party program (such as a “bot”) in order to automate gameplay functions, including playing, chatting, interacting, or gathering gold or items within Guild Wars 2. You may not assist, relay, or store gold or items for other players who are using these processes.

You seemed to have missed this entire section then if you’ve gone through them before.

You acknowledge that You may not, without signed written consent from a legally authorized representative of NCsoft, do any of the following:

© Use, or provide others with, any software related to the Game, including any automation software (a.k.a. “bot”) or software designed to change or modify operation of the Game;
(d) Use, or provide others with, any “hack,” “cheat,” “exploit” or “mod”;
(e) Use, or provide others with, any service related to the Game, including but not limited to:

(i) any service that interacts with the Software

I think that is pretty clear.

Ah, the second time I went through it, I was searching for the word “third”, in regards to third party program/software. I disagree that it’s clear. In fact, it’s quite vague IMO, and many other people agreed, thus the uproar and confusion that caused Gaile to create the third party program policy.

Apparently many players and Gaile Gray (whom is the head of customer support or something along those lines? I forget) thought it wasn’t clear enough.
“Change or modify the operation of the game” is vague. What is and isn’t a hack/cheat/exploit/mod can be considered quite vague in some scenarios.

Remember, they can choose to not enforce the vague mess that is present in the policy and instead enforce Gaile’s policy. Due to the fact that there are many third party applications, ex. Combat Mode and SSAA injectors, being used without any known bans, I’d argue that they’re moreso doing the latter than the former.

Also note that they have said that they are interested in eventually working with the community to create “apps” for GW2, though it was literally that vague and we haven’t heard anything more in regards to that as of yet.

But even reading over Gaile’s Policy, she says that this program will put your account in jeopardy.

The best way for a player to assess whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
• “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
• “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
• “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”—or even “maybe”—then we strongly recommend that you do not use the program because to do so may place your Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 account in jeopardy.

It does allow you to play faster, better, and more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it. It alters the combat mechanics and gives you an edge over others who don’t use it.

As for the apps thing, the only thing I remember hearing was from Eric back in March (I think it was March).

We won’t be allowing people to mod the game itself directly no. We feel that this encourages people to play the game in such a way that gives them an unfair advatage over those who don’t use mods. However we understand that many people enjoy modding games and are looking into ways for people to build things for the game in other ways. We’ll have more information on this sometime next year.

Back to the topic – does the software remove keystrokes/click/thought-based-interaction/whatever input events the client would normally require/accept? Yes? Well then push your luck and see how far you go…

Yes it does. Here’s a video if you didn’t know what it does (as he states right at the start, it already does things for you that you would do normally).

I think that is pretty clear. Whether they “can” or “will” isn’t the question. It is still against the rules to use it. So even if you use it, and you do get caught using it, and they ban you for it, just know that you can’t complain about it. They can choose whether or not to ban you for it, but it still doesn’t change the fact that it is a bannable offense. It’s the same thing for anything that breaks the rules. In the end, it is up to them to make the choice to ban or not, but that still doesn’t change the fact that it is against the rules.

As does the fact that no one has ever been banned for using Combat Mode.

How do you know this for a fact? Seriously, just curious as to the nature of your source as I’m sure this information hasn’t been published for public knowledge.

The addon became popular in large due to Reddit. If someone got banned, then multiple people would have gotten banned – it would be on Reddit. Not to mention that threads about mods or Combat Mode would be much more aggressively closed/deleted if they were mass banning Combat Mode users.

Spyder, policies do change. Gaile’s addon policy wasn’t put up on release, it was put up post-release. Around the time combat mode started becoming somewhat popular. Coincidence? You decide.

I’m talking about the Policy for Third-Party Programs. It hasn’t changed. Whether Gaile, Charles, Colin, Mike, etc has their own take on it, the policy itself is still there and hasn’t changed. I trust the Policy itself. Doesn’t matter who tells me different, the Policy hasn’t changed yet. If what they say is the definite answer on this, then the Policy will be changed to reflect that. So far, it hasn’t been.

if you guys read the three links i provided…the top one 1 month ago says you do so at your own risk if kitten kittens up its your fault…those ones spyder are all from longer than a month ago.

Whether it’s days, weeks, or months the policy still hasn’t changed. So the links are valid either way, no matter when they were said.

There is also the Vigil Leggings (if you joined the Vigil of course, though I think there is a work-around to get them without joining the Vigil). That is if you want something skimpy.

It was from a customer support person. I don’t know the specific differences between customer support, game master, and community coordinator, but I do know that Gaile Gray and her policy outweigh all of them. Just read the top comments of that Reddit thread.

I don’t really get what you are missing here. The mod alters the game. Simple as that. It is clearly stated that anything that alters the game is a third-party program and is not allowed. Just because Gaile Gray didn’t say it specifically, doesn’t mean they are all liars and don’t know what they are talking about.

There is more than one person who works for Anet that can speak on this matter you know.

yea absolutely, I definitely disagree with advantageous mods being banned that should definitely happen. but even something like UI mods would be nice…i mean the game places such a high value on cosmetic items i’d love to cosmetically change my UI to fit my theme.

That combat mod that was popular few months back is an interesting one…i personally don’t believe it gives anyone an advantage simply because it uses everything you can do in game. Kinda just saves the holding of right click down really.

I mean ultimately if the broader community didn’t really want it then for sure i understand but there was some conflict among customers and even anet staff thats all between their responses etc.

The Combat Mod was easily bannable because it did things for you. Like you said, you didn’t have to hold down the right mouse button. As well, it changed the combat to be action-y and allowed you to aim while using hotkeys.

Thus, it altered the gameplay and provided a slight advantage over those that didn’t use it. So it is considered a bannable program.

You are wrong. Combat Mode does not violate the addon policy Gaile posted nor has anyone that has used or is using it ever claimed to have been banned.

Not wrong at all. I will even provide you with a credible source where Anet states that it is a violation of the policy.

Indeed, as Cheiron said, this programm can be assimilated as a third party one, and therefore is not allowed on our game.

Please note that utilisation of third party software can lead to a definitive suspension of your account.

This is a community coordinator giving a response, presumably based on what they were taught during their training. I promise you, Gaile Gray and her policy outweighs this person. As does the fact that no one has ever been banned for using Combat Mode. You and that community coordinator are still wrong.

Read the second quote I put up there. It is directly from a GM, since you think Community Coordinators are liars and don’t speak for Anet.

As well:

Basically, anything that touches the game client in any fashion, including but not limited to visuals, overlays, controls, inputs, outputs, automation, sounds, or play experience is going to be referred to as a mod. The Guild Wars 2 software package is meant to be delivered and used AS-IS, with zero flexibility for the end user. If your script changes anything about the game itself, how it’s displayed, or how it’s played, then it’s forbidden 3rd-party software.

Well, before this gets locked yet again, here is the simple breakdown.

If a mod gives you an advantage of any kind whatsoever, it will get you banned. If a mod alters the game play in any way to make things easier or different, it will get you banned. Simply put, don’t use anything that changes the game play in any way or else you will get banned.

How to report perma Stealth cheaters ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

It’s not a cheat nor a bug. It’s just clever use of the mechanics provided to them. They aren’t hacking or exploiting to do it. They are just using the skills they have together to stay in stealth. Might not of been intentional from Anet, but they aren’t breaking any rules by doing it.

As such, if you keep reporting them for doing nothing wrong, it could lead to you being banned instead.

At the moment Sea of Sorrows is the number 1 server in NA WvW.

You’ll be hard pressed to get in.

^This.

Whatever happened to server transfers costing gems to stop bandwagoning?

Used to be every day, then it was changed to every week. Only reason we still have free transfers is cause they haven’t implemented Guesting yet. A feature that was supposed to be in at launch…

Elementalist weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

If you look under your skills tab where your traits and such are, you’ll see what weapons you can use and what weapon skills are unlocked by using those specific weapons. And yes, each element has their own set of skills with each weapon.

And all staffs use the same skills. There isn’t different staff skills for different types of staffs. Each weapon set comes with its own skills though, so play around with the different sets and see what you like more.

As for the best, I can’t help ya there. Haven’t really worked on my Elementalist to figure out which I like best.

How do you go with the Vigil faction?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

If you listen to the dialogue in your Personal Story, they tell you when it will be a permanent decision on what order you choose.

You do a few missions with them randomly to get a taste of what they each do and how they work, then after all that, you finally have to make a choice. They tell you straight up that the choice is permanent, so choose wisely.

Is this armor in-game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yeah that’s yet another armor I was thinking of getting that is not obtainable in game.

Seems rather odd that they would have all these armors on NPCs, but not make them available to the players. Same with Clothing and how some PvP armors are not available in PvE.

Old news, actually been posted a ton of times already.

And just an fyi, there is no nudity. You can’t see anything “obscene”. It is just texture wrapping. There is no actual parts. Do you really think they would of put full-on nudity in a T Rated game?

Will there be a Thanksgiving event?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

I don’t see why not. Of course probably not this year as it would take more time to get it ready.

But it doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving. It can be simply Harvest Festival, Turkey Day, or even Autumn Festival or something on those lines. In WoW it is called Pilgrim’s Bounty.

I mean we already have Wintersday, which is Christmas with a different name and different lore (kind of). So I see no reason why we can’t have “Harvest Festival”.

Remember, we are in Tyria. Get creative and use your imagination. Everything doesn’t have to be based on real life.

How many here are playing less? And why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

1. I spend more time on the forums than in game now.

2. When I heard about the new patch.

3. For me, it was the newest patch. The implementation of a treadmill, one-time events, poor balance fixes, more grind introduced, lottery chests again, etc. The usual complaints that most people are already going on about. The whole 180 turn on their original vision just to cater to the copy-paste MMO crowd, no communication on their site or in general, poor PR responses without addressing community concerns, and so on and so on.

I figured I’d wait until later in the future to see how this game is doing before I log back in again. Currently not happy with the direction it is going, so I’ll give it a few months and check back to see if things have changed for the better or worse.

As of now, I am playing catch-up in Skyrim. Started a new game and trying to get it all done before Dragonborn DLC comes out.
