(edited by SpyderArachnid.5619)
Thinking of buying every possible set from the gemstore… Specially now when certain sets goes up on sales.
DON’T buy gem clothes right now. I can’t stress that enough.
When the patch hits on April 15th, the wardrobe system is going to turn a lot of the outfits and clothing into tonics and full set outfits that cannot be mixed and matched, or dyed properly. And they will become combat skins, not town clothing. And as we all know, combat skins cost charges now to change them. So your town clothing will cost charges now to change them out.
So DO NOT buy any clothing items until after the patch goes live. This way, you can decide if you like the changes or not and don’t get scammed out of your money like the rest of us already have (bait and switch). And then you don’t have to fight with Anet to get a refund, because they are restricting your refunds.
So wait and have patience. If you buy now, most of your outfits will become tonics and full sets that can’t be worn with anything else. Right now the outfits in the gem store are misleading and “full of lies” (weird way to put it, but it’s true). They are selling them based on having multiple pieces that can be mixed and matched and dyed separately, and don’t cost anything to switch out. But come April 15th, you will lose all of those features (bait and switch).

Try placing yourself in my shoes.
The highest tier item I have ever got to drop (note: drop, not map completion or other auto rewards) is rare. And not even max level either. I think the highest level rare I ever got was level 74. And I’ve had maybe 2-3 of them drop ever in my entire play time of GW2 (been here since early access and beta as well).
I’ve never had an exotic drop, much less a precursor. Never get the rare mats, or ascended stuff from fractals. Never get the lucky rare dyes or rare mini pets from gambling with those either. Black Lion Chests always give me the worst possible loot you can get (boosters and some essences of luck). Even when I’m out and about in the world leveling an alt, I mostly get nothing but junk. It is rare that I even get a blue item, much less a green item. You can forget rares or exotics, or even the illusive precursors.
When it comes to luck in this game, I have negative. There was actually a bug a long time ago that flagged accounts to have basically a zero drop rate on everything. Supposedly they fixed that bug, but honestly, it feels like my account is still flagged. So yeah, forget precursors. It’s just never gonna happen. The RNG in GW2 is the worst I have ever experienced in any game.
Posted this in the other thread, but I can post it here too. Here’s all my characters in their mix and match town clothing.
The only thing that I can see causing people to leave the game, is the town clothing issue.
That is something people spent a TON of real money on, and now it is being taken away from them. They were constant supporters of Anet, giving them more than a monthly fee every month so they could customize their look via the town clothing system, and now Anet is taking away all of that and their excuse is basically “oh well, deal with it”. And Anet won’t even let them have refunds either.
So yeah, the people that have been spending money on this game and supporting it, are royally getting the shaft with this update. So I could see them leaving (or at least never spending a dime again on this game).
I don’t see where the town clothes are being affected much at all. Yeah the basic ones will go away and be replaced by tonics. (I read default set you start with) but all the other outfits you bought though the gem store will still be available.
They won’t be actually. They are all being turned into tonics, except for a few head pieces and a couple others. And we all know how well tonics work in this game.
The issue is, people paid money for these items to be able to mix and match them and dye them how they wish. Now, as tonics, you are not allowed to mix and match and you can’t dye them the way you choose anymore. And to top it off, you now have to pay to use the skins, when before they were free to swap out.
So no more mixing and matching, no more choosing dyes for multiple pieces, and now you have to pay to change your outfit when it was free before. And they are tonics now.
@SpyderArachnid.5619 been here from the start, still loving it. If I didn’t wouldn’t be here.
I wasn’t meaning you were going to quit or anything. I think you misunderstood what I said.
If Anet reacted out of fear every time someone say they are leaving or quitting because of a change made in the game. They would have been out of business years ago.
I take it you weren’t here for the November patch then eh? :p
I was saying that the November patch is exactly what you described. The introduction of Ascended gear. It was a panic move to save players quitting who wanted vertical progression. Cause if you remember (since you’ve been here since the beginning), GW2 was a horizontal progression game. But the “mmo jumpers” wanted vertical progression and complained and threatened to leave. So they started quitting, and Anet panicked and released Ascended gear to cater to the vertical progression crowd.
Anet admitted it themselves. So yeah, Anet does cater to quitters if there is enough of them leaving for the same reasons.

Don’t Worry guys, you’ll have some of your Town Clothes useable as armor now! So you can pay money for Transmutation every time you want to use those Town Clothes! a healthier game!
If they really wanted a “healthier game” they would have left town clothes how they were & made them useable in combat. Done. tbh, they should have been useable in combat from the beginning.
That’s another thing that bothers me as well now. Changing our town clothes around was free. We could mix and match any time we wanted, without any additional charge. Now we have to pay every time we want to change our clothes. This quote sums it up perfectly (taken from another thread):
The problem is that this isn’t a wardrobe. A wardrobe is a collection of clothes that you can pick and choose and use at any time because it’s yours.
This is a unlockable skin store.
You work, grind, and put effort in to collect skin. You pay real cash for, or convert gold to gems to buy skins on the TP. Either way, you can now earn the right to pay again to use something that you’ve unlocked..
This needs to be repeated over & over. This is my entire problem with this new system. They added cool stuff by making things account bound (it’s essentially going back to the GW1 costume account bound stuff) & saving bank space, then they ruin it by keeping the crappy “pay to use” system. I want to be able to swap at any time to any look for free. I’d pay to unlock each skin but just to swap to it? eff that. So far this will just open bank space for me & nothing else. I’m not going to pay to be swapping all the time even though that would be the whole fun of a wardrobe system. Unlocking 100 skins & just having them sit in the UI because I have to pay to use them is not the point of a wardrobe.
A) Is there still a grind for the gear with the highest stats? (Ascended).
B) Do I still need to perform this grind for every alt?
C) Do I still need to perform this grind for every playstyle? (eg – grind for zerker, then grind for tanky, then grind for healing, then grind for conditions?)
A: Yes
B: Yes
C: Yes
Simple enough.
If those players feel it’s a “grind” I really wonder at what game they left GW2 to play. Call of Duty perhaps?
Heck, WoW has less grind than GW2 does. Most “AAA” MMOs I have played have less grind than GW2 does.
Well, at least I can get a refund and hope that ANet will create a costume set similar to what I have now in the future.
You can’t get a refund though. Only the ones being changed into tonics (like hoodies and cargo pants) are being refundable.
Yep. Not only are they taking away something that you already paid money for, they are stopping you from getting a refund as well. Meaning you are stuck with this change whether you like it or not.
Wonderful way they treat their paying customers eh? But don’t worry, they plan on making more gem store stuff for us down the road that we can spend money on, because they actually think we are going to give them more money after they did this….
You’re out of your mind if you think I will trust you as a company with my money once more. What else will change that I paid money for and can’t get a proper refund for? Gems I can get returned, but not the money I bought them with.
I really don’t want to come off as offensive, but I’m thoroughly disappointed in the entirety of Arenanet.
Basically this. I don’t care any further what new stuff Anet plans on releasing later down the road. They are “slapping us in the face” with this change.
We spend money on these outfits and support the game with our money. And this is the thanks we get in return? You taking away our outfits that we paid money for, and turning them into tonics that we can’t use? What is the point in giving you anymore money now if this is how you treat your paying supporters? How do we know that in the future you aren’t going to take away more stuff that we have already paid money for?
Well all I have to say is congratulations. If you are trying to stop us from giving you money any more, than you’ve done a pretty good job on that. Sorry but it is not worth spending any more money on this game if these are the kind of tactics we have to look forward to in the future for supporting this game.
-snip-
So basically the whole “we are taking your concerns and feedback into consideration” was a bunch of nonsense. Glad to see that hasn’t changed. Just the usual typical PR spin meaning “we are not changing anything regardless of what you have to say”. Well expect a bunch of players quitting or requesting refunds. Since you’re not willing to see the dozens of alternatives being posted in this thread (since you probably didn’t even read any of it), expect a ton of backlash. But I’ve gotten used to this. Just Anet being Anet like always.
As always we ask you to try out the new system of customization and see what’s available to you. I think many people will be surprised by how many pieces have become armor compatible. We hope the benefits to the outfit system and wardrobe in terms of future support and additions will be clear, and you can look forward to more new outfits coming very soon.
Look forward to more new outfits in the gem store right? Cause god forbid we earn anything in game that doesn’t require us opening our wallets. Or will we be getting mroe tonics instead, like the tonics you changed our clothing into after we have already paid for them?
I wouldn’t care if this was just for the gear we earned in game. But no, this is for stuff we spent money on. We paid for these outfits, and now you are changing them into something useless after we already paid for them. We did not pay for tonics, and now we can’t even use the outfits we have created to get our unique looks, because you think this is better for everyone to take them away after we already paid for them.
Guess Anet prefers us to just get refunds instead of listening to the community and hearing our concerns. You would think they would want us to spend money, not turn us away from doing it.
Bonefield has a pretty good understanding here of why some mix and match is not easy at all. Some armor and clothing combinations are fundamentally not mixable, (for more than just clipping reasons)
I call it bad design.
Sorry, but I agree with this. You are going to overhaul the entire system and remove outfits and turn them into tonics, instead of changing a few outfits into separate parts? I get that some of the outfits are one solid piece. But you know what would be a better idea than turning them into tonics that we didn’t pay for? Separate them into pieces.
Sorry but “for more than clipping reasons” is not enough of a reason to go through with this. We paid for these outfits. We did not pay for tonics that we can’t wear with the rest of our skins.
I don’t care how long it takes to fix a few outfits so they use multiple pieces. I’d rather wait longer for this wardrobe system if that is the case, then lose something I already paid for.
So let me get this straight. When GW2 first released, we had account bound dyes. Then this happened (quote from Crystin Cox):
There was a time when the dye system was very different and at that time dye unlocks were account based, but we have since changed the dyes system and we really feel that character based is the right way to go and the system we have now is the best one for the game.
Customized dye should be something that denotes your characters progress, like better looking, more elaborate gear. As you spend more time on your character, they grow and gain access to more customization options. If we make dyes account based, this progression will only happen on one character. We wanted character customization to remain tied to the character but we felt that one-time-use dyes discouraged players from customizing as often as they would like, that is how we arrived at the current system.
There are 400 dyes in the game, we do not think of dyes as something that a character should unlock all of, it is not meant to be a collection feature. Each character should have a unique palette and we have made enough colors to make this possible. Dyes come from world drops, rewards, crafting, the Mystic Forge, and the Gem Store and we expect that over the life of a character you will collect a lot of them.
We are still developing and the dye system will continue to receive attention and improvements, but changing it to an account based system is not something we are considering right now.
Now we are going back to account bound dyes again? Seriously, why did we even switch to character bound dyes any ways in the first place? It should of been account bound and stayed account bound from the start. Glad it is finally going back to account bound, but this is a change that should of never happened as they should of never been character bound in the first place.
I seriously hope that FAQ was released when they released the blog post. If they released that FAQ just an hour or two ago, then it shows they are ignoring us completely and are going ahead with their plans without giving us any thought.
The FAQ is from yesterday. Don’t despair!
Ah, thanks for the heads up. Hopefully we’ll hear something soon about this then.
the FAQ is out
There is no reason for this change to the town clothes, it unnecessarily restricts the use of both outfits and the clothes that will become tonics. You won’t have the option to mix & match, I have Devil horns, the pirate outfit and the witches broom equipped on my main I will no longer be able to do that.
Just make them all skins with no armor restrictions since the current town clothes can be used by everyone and are largely gem store only.

If you currently have items that have been transmuted, you will unlock the appearance for both the first item used for stats and the last item used for appearance in your final transmuted item. This means that if you have only transmuted a given item once (for example, if you’ve used a single Transmutation Stone to combine the appearance of Dawn with the stats of another greatsword) you’ll unlock the skins for both items in that transmutation.
Not sure if it goes any further than the last item, but that’s all we know at the moment. So if you transmuted an item once, you get both skins. Not sure what happens if you have transmuted an item multiple times.
Getting a refund is not the answer. Anet should be avoiding players getting refunds, and instead fix the situation. Getting a refund is a bad thing. It shines a really bright negative light on Anet that they are changing things we already paid for, and instead of fixing the issue, players are resorting to just getting refunds. Anet should realize this gives them an extremely bad image that players have to resort to this.
This needs to be changed, plain and simple. You don’t go changing something players have already spent money on. I don’t care if your legal documentation gives you the right to do it. It is a bad move in general. Best Buy isn’t coming to my house after I bought a TV from them to take it away and give me a drawing of a TV. I still have the TV that I paid for. This is the same principle. We paid for those outfits. Now you’re going to take them away and give us tonics of them instead? That is not what we paid for. This is seriously a bait and switch tactic and is unacceptable.
Decided to join in on the pictures. Here are mine, that I am now going to lose because of this change…..
Sorry but this is unacceptable.
We didn’t pay for tonics. We paid for outfits. Turning them into tonics goes against everything Anet has told us about customizing our characters.
And now you have players here asking for refunds and saying they aren’t going to spend anymore money on this game. That should tell you something Anet. It is obvious that this is a bad decision on your part and you should change it. You are changing something that people have already paid for. They paid money for an outfit for a reason. They didn’t pay money for some tonic that they can’t mix and match with. They want what they paid for.
Getting rather sick of all of this. This isn’t the first time Anet has done this. Change stuff after players have already paid for it. Hopefully (yeah right..) they actually listen to us and don’t go through with this change. Like I said, this is unacceptable and you can bet that I will be demanding a refund if this change goes through, just like many others here.
I want what I paid for, not some tonic.
So was reading the news on the Wardrobe System, and saw this:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-wardrobe-system/
Town Clothes sold through the gem store as outfits, such as the Pirate Captain’s Outfit, will be usable as a single outfit skin through the Wardrobe. Purchasing an outfit will unlock it for all characters on your account to use. Outfits will replace the look of equipped armors, are equipped in a separate appearance slot, and do not require Transmutation Charges to use. Single items, such as the Fuzzy Hats and Scarlet’s Spaulders, will be unlocked for your entire account and usable with any armor weight. Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.
So are you saying that items we purchased that are no longer available, are going to be taken away from us and replaced with Endless Tonics? Can’t say I agree with that or am happy about that. This circles around to the whole “Don’t change things after we have already paid for them”.
Or are you trying to say, that we keep the items that are no longer available, and you are not going to sell them, but instead sell Endless Tonics in their place? If so, you should probably reword it so it says that. Cause currently, it sounds like we are going to lose items we paid for and get Endless Tonics instead.
Would like some clarification on this as this is rather upsetting news. I didn’t pay for a tonic. I paid for an outfit.

Story was as cheesy as ever, i’d had preffered to see a Male gay romance just to see how much the general community would probably hate it, but a lesbian one was ofcourse a safer choice and therefore a new low.
I take it you’ve never played a Sylvari, or did you forget about the gay relationship in your Personal Story when you choose the Knight story?
(technically, the Sylvari are genderless, so gay or lesbian has no meaning to them. But you missed the uproar about it during the first few month in beta and release)
Honestly I don’t see the big deal. I kind of saw it coming and was actually hoping it would happen since Jory and Kas were first introduced. They just made a great couple. And I’m straight and it doesn’t bother me one bit. I mean, come on, you had to of seen it coming after reading all the story and hearing all their dialogue and witty banter back and forth throughout the whole season. It was right there and it was cute watching their relationship build throughout the whole story.
Everyone cries about the gem store. Its all a look. Luckily these items do not have stats. Now that would be something to cry about. I love the gem store busness model. Way better than paying $15 a month subscription fee for the priveledge to play the game I already purchased!! Now that is something to cry about.
Except for 15 dollars a month, all that stuff wouldn’t be in the gem store and we would have it directly available in game.
Instead we have to pay hundreds of dollars to constantly use all those items in the gem store, every time we want to use them. Unlike a AAA game that charges 15 bucks every month, and we get it all for free all the time in game.
So yeah, I’d rather pay 15 bucks a month for access to everything whenever I want it, than pay 10 bucks for one outfit that I can only use once and then have to keep paying 10 bucks every time I want another one.
And OT (so my post doesn’t get deleted for being off-topic), those gloves and shoulders should of been in the game, not the gem store. 800 gems for two pieces of armor is ridiculous, when a full set costs 800 gems already. Those gloves and shoulders, along with the helm, should of all been a reward from doing the story. Not sold in the gem store.

Story wise, I loved it. Scarlet is awesome and everything that happened story wise was great.
Content wise, I hated it. Same grind as always with ridiculous requirements to craft stuff, horrible rewards and drops as always, so called “polished” content that is the buggiest content to date, more RNG gambling yet again, more achievement grinding, etc.
I quit GW2 for awhile, and now come back to see nothing has changed. Makes me regret ever reinstalling the game. But at least I enjoyed the story….
Spoiler tags please. I would suggest changing the title to not mention Scarlet’s “departure” as well
I’m not spoiling anything.
The main page on the GW2 site already says this is the final confrontation with Scarlet. So thus, nothing is being spoiled as this information is already on the main release page.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/march-04-2014/
The time has come for the final confrontation with Scarlet Briar. Retake Lion’s Arch and put a stop to her monstrous plans!
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ll actually miss Scarlet.
I’ve been gone from GW2 for awhile, been back off and on to check out the story of Scarlet, and so far, this is one of my favorite stories.
There is so much stuff I dislike about GW2, but this whole LS has always interested me. I think she was a great villain. This final conclusion to the story was awesome to me. I didn’t care about the rewards or the loot, it was the story all together that I enjoyed.
So, thanks Anet. I appreciate it.
What I am saying, is Anet doesn’t personally reward you for playing their game. Not just Living Story, but the game in general. Anet doesn’t recognize dedication to the game or the hours you have spent in the game or anything you have done in the game.
1. If I level up to a certain level, if I finish a map – I get a letter. My progress gets rewarded, even if its a bot.
2. My dedication is rewarded with loot, rank, so on.Why should Anet thank me for playing their game or reward me for it? I do it for fun, it’s not work, were I want something in return.
What you want is like being in a football team and everytime I catch the ball, the coach and everybody around me comes to thank me for catching that ball/playing football.
Again, you don’t get it either.
What you are doing is meeting a requirement for a reward in the game. You don’t get something unless you complete a certain kind of content to get that reward. It is not a personal reward from Anet themselves, it is the basic requirement that you must meet to obtain a reward in any video game. The game itself is programmed to give you a reward as long as you meet the requirements for said reward. That has nothing to do with what I was talking about.
Look at it like this. It’s been over a year since GW2 has been out. Since then, Anet has sent out several personalized messages to players who have bought gems. These messages are thanking them personally for giving them money and are rewarding them with a gift in the process to encourage them to give Anet more money. Here we are again with Anet giving out a reward to people who give them more money, a mini pet for buying 4k gems.
What has Anet personally done for players who haven’t spent money, but are dedicated to the game still? Nothing. I’m not talking about all the content they release for free or any of that. That is for everyone to enjoy, gem buyer or not. I’m talking about what Anet has done personally for them. They have done nothing. They don’t care that you play the game. They only care if you are buying gems. And then they will show you personal recognition. Otherwise you’re nothing.
Is it so bad to ask for Anet to reward those players for once? For their dedication to the game? Or do they have to give Anet money in order to get any personal recognition for playing GW2?
So what you want is Living Story rewards sent by mail with a message thanking you for playing the release?
Other than the acquisition method I just don’t see the difference between, for example, the helm that was awarded for completing Dragon Bash and the helm you can buy in the gem store.
You’re not getting what I am saying. Apologizes if it was confusing for you, let me try to clarify it.
What I am saying, is Anet doesn’t personally reward you for playing their game. Not just Living Story, but the game in general. Anet doesn’t recognize dedication to the game or the hours you have spent in the game or anything you have done in the game. They don’t thank you with a gift every now and then and send you personalized messages in your mail for all your hard work and dedication to playing GW2.
The only time they send personalized messages and a gift to players, is only if you have bought gems. They thank you for giving them money and reward you for giving them money. They don’t care about your dedication to GW2 and all the hours and work you have put into it. They only give you personal recognition if you have bought gems.
That person that has played since Beta, gotten all the achievements and worked their behind off in game, but hasn’t spent a dime on gems, gets no recognition from Anet. But that new player that buys a fancy hat from the gem store, get a personalized message in their mail with a gift from Anet to reward them for giving Anet money.
So let me make sure I got this right.
Before, Armor sets and Weapon skins were locked behind the gem store. They never release this stuff in game so we can earn it ourselves by playing the game, we had to get it via the gem store only.
Now, Anet is rewarding us for giving them money. So instead of rewarding us for actually playing content and playing the game, they are rewarding us for giving them money. There is no reward for say, you’ve been here since the beginning and completed every Living Story content we have released. Here is a reward for your dedication to GW2. No. They are only rewarding you if you give them more money.
Just want to make sure I understand and I was right. Anet just sees us as money bags, not actual players. They only care about our money. It’s pretty obvious. Every new armor set is locked behind the gem store, every new weapon skin is locked behind RNG lottery chests in the gem store, they even made reskins of old armor sets that are already in the game and are selling those for the price of a new set, and now we are being rewarded for buying gems with real money.
Pretty soon we’ll be able to buy everything in the gem store and we won’t even have to play the game. Then it will be about who spends more money. Sigh. So much for a AAA MMO.
No rewards for playing? And you use the Living Story as an example? I have an entire bank tab full of items I got free as rewards for playing the Living Story. And that’s just the account bound ones, I sold all the tradeable ones.
In fact some people complained that they were releasing so many free skins/items specifically as a way of forcing people to buy more bank tabs.
I’m talking about an overall reward for being a dedicated player, not an item given to you for grinding achievements on your own.
Haven’t you noticed? Every time they do these rewards for players, it is only for the players that spend money? All the mail messages they send out to random players that reward them for buying gems? Now we are being rewarded again for spending even more money on gems. We are only getting rewards directly from Anet for giving them money.
They don’t send out a message saying “Thank you for playing GW2. We appreciate your dedication to the game, and as a token of our thanks, please accept this gift. We hope you continue to enjoy playing our game.”. They only send out messages that say “For your dedication of giving us money, take this gift. We hope you keep giving us more money in the future.”. They don’t recognize those that are playing the game, they just recognize those that are giving them money.
So let me make sure I got this right.

Only once. If you want more than one, you have to buy more than one.
Unlike GW1 where we had an unlimited amount after purchasing an outfit, here, we only get one.
I can understand someone gets angry because he paid a lot more to have a similar (maybe less good looking) armor, but all the topics about exclusivity are just childish, imho.
It’s mainly because the armor is exclusive to Humans. Charr have their cultural armor, Sylvari have their cultural armor, Asura, Norn, and Humans have their cultural armor. Every race has armor that is exclusive to that race only. That is what makes cultural armor special. It is your race’s specific armor.
But they decided to release the human T3 cultural armor to all races, which is unfair to all the humans who bought that armor for their race. Humans don’t have access to other race’s cultural armors, so why should every other race have access to human’s cultural armor? It is unfair to give every race human T3 cultural and take away an exclusive armor set from the humans, yet leave all the other race’s cultural armors exclusive to them only.
The fact that you can get it for only 40g, while the cultural version is 120g, is a secondary complaint. The main complaint is as stated above.
Could we please get a statement from one of the devs? Please?
You can see that a lot of people are quite unhappy! Can you explain your decision to reskin the t3 armor (alongside with two not-so-desired-armors).
Sadly, they will either ignore us like usual and hope the problem goes away on it’s own (or sweep it under the rug), or the response they give will be about keeping the thread constructive.
No response they give will justify what they have done here. There is nothing they can say that will justify selling an exclusive, expensive, rare T3 human cultural set on the gem store and making it available for every race at half the cost.
This is just another bit of proof that shows that they don’t care about the players and the time/effort/money they have put into the game. They just want our money and will do whatever it takes to get it. Even if that means screwing over the players in the process. Nothing they can say will prove otherwise.
It just feels like they are trying to drive players away from GW2 now.
An interesting story that could of had a great ending, and they ruined it with Scarlet yet again. A complete reset of everyone’s ranks in Fractals, just so they could have Leaderboards that no one asked for. Ascended back items still not available in PvP, yet they added them to the mystic toilet instead.
And now this. Reskins in the gem store for the price of a new skin, and then they had the nerve to make one of them T3 Human Cultural armor. An armor that was supposed to be exclusive and rare to humans. Now available for everyone in the gem store. Seriously?
Are you just trying to anger your players and force them to quit your game? Because it feels like you are constantly doing exactly that. You keep doing all these things that players are complaining about and you ignore everything we say. It is obvious you just care about ways to con money out of us, and not about us as actual players.
I was debating about this with Devildoc the other day. Talking about how it was all speculation that Scarlet would be behind it all, while they were certain it would be. I thought to myself that maybe Anet would do something different this time around and not randomly make this about Scarlet.
Boy was I ever wrong. Really disappointed to see this is yet another “Surprise! It was Scarlet all along!” story. This had a lot of potential to be something different and interesting. Was instantly ruined by adding Scarlet to it.
I just seriously can’t believe they did this.
I mean it’s already bad enough that they are reskins of already existing armor, and they are trying to sell them for 800 gems, the price of new armor skins. But to make it T3 Human Cultural armor is just disgusting and insulting.
All those players who saved up for T3 armor on their Human characters just got screwed over. Now anyone can buy it for 800 gems, on any race they want, and they get particle effects with it as well.
Cultural armor is supposed to be special unique armor for specific races. It was expensive for it’s rarity and each race had their own unique armors. Now you go and take away the armor from humans and make it cross-species, make it cheaper, and give it fire effects. So now everyone can have what was supposed to be a unique rare armor set for humans.
I just don’t even know why I bother anymore.
Here’s an alternate link for those that cannot load the page (as it seems to be down now).

If this is true, it is wrong on so many levels. This is a new low.
Edit: Finally got the site to load. The video was awesome, I’ll admit. Would of loved to be in that cab. I just don’t like the whole “communist” attitude about the contest.

They are voicing their opinions about the game, not other players like you are doing.
The OP is asking for information on what has been implemented since they left. Telling them to go play the game is not helpful as that provides no information on what has been implemented since they left. The people above are at least providing that information, regardless of their feelings to the game.
You on the other hand, are giving your opinions on the community, not the game. And until your last post, you didn’t provide any information to the OP’s question. It’s simple. Help the OP, fill him in on what information we forgot to give, without criticizing the other players. If you have opinions about the game, lay them out. Go for it. But keep your opinions of other players to yourself.
People mentioned what they remembered. You can’t fault people for not remembering content that was introduced. As a community we should be working together to help other. If something was missed, fill in the blanks and help.
Instead of making a post to tell the OP his topic is waste of time, give them that information that others forgot to mention (just like your above post without all the ridicule). You can help the OP instead of ridiculing the other posters, thus making their question not a waste of time.
Keep your personal feeling to yourself, and help them and inform them of the things we forgot to tell them. Don’t come in here telling them they are wasting their time and then not even help them with their question.
I think you should try the game, and not come to the forum for information like this. First of all, there’s plenty of stuff that has been added and plenty of stuff that KEEPS getting added.
What the naysayers neglect to mention is that there’s new stuff every two weeks, which means that if you don’t like one update you don’t have long to wait for the next. And because they don’t like it, then everyone else is going to hate it too…except some people like it.
So yeah, asking here is a bit of a waste of time. There’s plenty of stuff to do, and plenty of stuff added…and more coming all the time.
How is it a waste of time? They asked what new content has been implemented since they left. Which is exactly what everyone is answering with. Nothing is being neglected. So the forum is not the place to find this information? What purpose does the forum serve if they can’t come here asking information on what has been implemented since they left?
This is a perfectly fine thread. They want to know what changes have been made since they have been gone, and the replies are giving the OP just that. Just logging into the game will not give them the answers they seek. Thus coming to the forums to ask these questions is not a waste of time and will help educate them on what has happened since they left.
Well….
You missed a ton of temporary content. Only permanent things that are still here is a revamp of Tequatl and a replacement dungeon path. So kind of, nothing has changed content wise for you. They deleted a path in Twilight Arbor and replaced it with a new path. And they made Tequatl an 80 man raid content.
They used Southsun for a couple new events, but since they were all temporary content patches, it is back to being the same now. There was some quality of life updates, like the currency wallet and the looking for group tool. A few changes to loot and balance updates. A bunch more gambling and new items in the gem store, though some of it was only temporary (again). They have added more Ascended items, almost a full set now, and increased crafting to 500 in the weapon crafts. Any recipes you discovered though after 400 have been reset and you’ll have to discover them all over again.
MF gear is gone now. Any gear you had with MF stats, you can now change the stats on them. Of course it is all soul bound now as well with that change. MF is now an account wide buff that you earn via essences that are salvaged from items.
So all in all, you’ve missed a lot of temporary content so it’ll feel like nothing much has changed from that perspective. But GW2 is a B2P game, no subscription. So it doesn’t hurt to log in and check it out yourself. Let it install overnight while you sleep or something, and log back in to see for yourself.
I voted for evon, and I think this fractal will be awesome… Unless.
Unless we lose our own char and have to become inquest generic npc things :/.
Just like the vharr fractal. It is one of my favourite, but being random charrs completely ruin the experience :/.
You’re reliving a moment in the past through someone else’s eyes. So naturally, you won’t be yourself. You will be whoever that person in the past was.
Kiel is like Trahearne, someone who benefited from our hard work in slaying the bad guys.
Evon is like a Saint, someone who single handedly saved Lion’s Arch without piggybacking off of another hero’s work.
The choice was obvious. Evon should have won on merit alone.
Umm what? Evon went to LA to extort the people there. Then he had a change of heart and killed his captain and then ran the Black Lion Trading company himself. He has done nothing to be considered a “Saint”.
Ellen on the other hand is part of the Lionguard and helped defend LA from the Risen. She also led the investigation and counterattack against the Karka, and helped defeat the Queen, and then stayed on the Island to aid the refugees. She even destroyed the contracts that the Consortium were using to make the refugees slaves. She is also the one who opened the investigation with Marjory against the Aetherblades and even located their base, where they captured the leader of the Aetherblades.
So sorry, but Evon has done nothing compared to Ellen. Ellen is a hero, while Evon is just a simple trader.
You are vastly misinformed. Evon is a hero, and did everything without needing our help. Kiel accomplished many things… thanks to our hard work. We defeated the Karka Queen. We saved Southsun. We pushed back Scarlet’s Aetherblades.

Lore doesn’t lie.
If you’re going off the Lore, the Lore says nothing about Smooth Penguin doing all that. Nor does it say that xxxNarutoxxx did any of that.
The lore states what Ellen did, not what we did. So that argument is right out the window since we are going off of lore, not game play. Which is exactly what I am talking about. What the lore states.
I can paste links too. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ellen_Kiel
The lore was written, and it’s called the Living Story. My participation in it had me and my fellow heroes running all types of errands for Kiel. In fact, now that I think about it, Kiel committed crimes doing the story. She should have been arrested for criminal property damage when she sank that ship in the bay.
So you can post all the links you want. Evon’s decorated history cannot be unwritten. The only constant we have today is that a majority of the players failed to recognize his greatness.
Whether you ran errands for Kiel or not, she played a big part in the story lore wise. And what was your precious Evon doing the whole time all this was going on? Oh that’s right. Making money off people instead of saving them from the threats plaguing LA. He was a criminal who didn’t care about the people of LA. He just wanted to be on the council for his own profit.
Yeah, serious greatness there alright. Meanwhile, Ellen is going around fighting the threat that is claiming LA and helping the people. But seeing as you’re an Evon’s number one fan, you’re blind to the truth. So I’m done debating this with you as you’ll support Evon no matter the facts.

I don’t care about WPs or Keys.
Abaddon has/had a better story. Period. So the Fall of Abaddon is a better story than a story we haven’t even seen yet? Glad you can read the future then. Tell me what else you know about in that crystal ball of yours.
Again, anyone with any critical thinking skill could tell you the story of Thaumanova reactor.
1. Inquest sabateurs
2. Some McGuffin plot device “Chaos Magic”
3. Reactor goes Chernobyl
4. Scarlet is revealed to be the mastermindThat’s really all there is to it.
GW2 NEEDS some more connections to GW1. The devs need to stop trying to make GW2 have absolutely nothing to do with its own lore history.
Yet that is all speculation, not facts. While the Fall of Abaddon is all facts, cause it is old lore that we already know about.
I get that you’re nostalgic and want GW2 to give you GW1 stuff. But you have to remember that GW2 is a new game set 250 years in the future of GW1 after the defeat of the Great Destroyer. This is a new time period. Why should we relive the past for no reason, instead of focusing on current issues now? GW2 needs to make it’s own lore now, instead of living in the past and dwelling on old lore.
We already know the facts about Thaumanova as well, you’re just hiding your head in the sand about it.
But we don’t know the facts. Your “opinions” and “speculation” is not facts. It is your own ideas as to what has happened. There is no solid evidence about Thaumanova yet. Thus the whole reason for finding out the mystery behind it.
I was right in that Thaumanova was going to be played as Inquest Saboteurs or stopping Inquest Saboteurs.
I’m betting I’ll be right on it being tied with Scarlet too.
Whatever McGuffin chaos magic/energy they pull out of their posteriors to explain the how literally does not matter. We already know it’s going to be a McGuffin.
You gave your opinion on an obvious scenario, and it was right. I mean, seeing as we play Charr in the Charr story, it seemed pretty obvious that we would playing Asura in the Reactor story. Seeing as the other races weren’t present during that moment, it wouldn’t make sense to be them.
But that still doesn’t change the fact that it is all speculation, not facts. You can make all the bets you want about it being Scarlet, but it is all your own speculation. Not hard facts.

So you think that go against his own brothers, saving tons of innocent people in Lion arch is nothing. interesting
Oh, btw, Kield did nothing, We players did it all, she just take rewards at the end which should have been ours.
Like his Warband is seriously going to kill a ton of people in LA? He was fighting to save the life of his Warband cause he knew their plan was going to backfire in their faces. He wanted an alternate solution that didn’t involve them all being massacred, but the leader didn’t. So he killed her, and took the safer route into LA and established a Trading Post. The end.
He didn’t care about the Risen coming into LA, he didn’t do anything to help any of the refugees or deal with the Karka situation. He didn’t care about the Aetherblades. He just sat there at his Trading Post, making money. True hero right there.

Broke people voted for Ellen. Fact.
You do realize that both parties gave you a discount on things right? If you voted for Evon, all the sudden that means you cannot afford Black Lion Keys and need them cheaper? If you voted for Kiel, all the sudden that means you cannot afford waypoints?
Face it. They both offered the same things, it was all a matter of what you wanted cheaper. Black Lion Keys, or Waypoints. And what Fractal you wanted to see. Abaddon or Reactor. Being broke had nothing to do with it, since both parties offered a discount on something.
