Well I have animations and pretty much everything set to Max settings, so no issues there.

I’m currently using this new hairstyle (screenshot below) and it doesn’t move or anything.

So I’m unsure if this is a bug or not, but thought I’d post it here any ways. If it’s intentional, then feel free to move it.

The new hairstyles have no physics. All hairstyles move and sway with motion, but the new hairstyles are static and have no movement.

Design-a-LW-update Thread

Honestly, I want to see the Mursaat and White Mantle. I know the White Mantle play a small role in GW2, but I’d like to see that something bigger is happening behind the scenes with them. It was by far one of my favorite factions from GW1, and would love to see them play out in GW2. That would probably get me to play again as well (as long as it is well done and large scale like F&F, not some small patch).

Another thing I’d like to see, is us losing. Sure everyone likes being a hero all the time and succeeding at everything we do, but I want to see us fail for once.

Not really a good example, but a decent one. For those that played Mass Effect, remember always winning? You never failed, you always won. Sure it’s great, but in the end, it was boring being unstoppable all the time and conquering everything. But then Mass Effect 3 came, and remember that feeling of failing to save Thessia? I loved it. It was nice to have a change of pace and actually lose for once instead of winning all the time.

Living story = players not returning?

in Living World

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

I have different conversations with friends.

What’s new in the game. The living story. This week we’re fighting T’quatl. It’s a pretty epic dragon battle. Next week, there’s a new dungeon path coming into the game.

It’s not about what’s gone, it’s about what’s coming. You’re always two weeks away from something new…and you never know what it’s going to be.

To me that’s a selling point.

Except we have always been fighting Tequatl. That’s nothing new. All they did was update the mechanics. It’s still the same dragon that we have been fighting since the game released. And adding a new path to an already existing dungeon isn’t really a great thing to sell the game on either. It’s once again, old content just being updated.

When people check the website here, there is tons of content patches listed on the release page. They look at it and go “Wow, that’s awesome. Anet has added all kinds of new content since the release of this game.”. Then they log in to find out that none of that content actually exists in the game and they can’t even go back to check any of it out cause it was all temporary. And the only stuff that was permanent was content we already had, just “revised” is all.

Now new players will log in with all this new content being tossed at them, that has story lines connected to old content that they can never experience, so they end up lost in what is going on. They have no idea of finding out what happened to lead up to these events unless they go to outside sources and read up about it. Which is an awful way to experience content.

I remember a few days ago I was talking to an old WoW buddy of mine about GW2. They saw some screens of my characters with all this awesome stuff from previous LS events and asked me about it. I told them that content doesn’t exist anymore and instead we have this new content that involves Scarlet coming up. He asked who that was, and I told them it was someone from an old LS event. He seemed interested at first until he realized that all that content was temporary and he can’t even go back to play it to find out how the events transpired.

That right there turned him away from the game. It’s like opening a book to the middle and starting from there instead of the beginning. You miss out on so much information that you are lost as to what is going on. No one wants that or enjoys that.

Lackluster New Content

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

A new dungeon added to a game such as this is a hugely important content update. The new dungeon may suck, or it may be the greatest bit of content created for any game ever. You cannot write it off before you even know anything about it.

Youre getting new content patches every 2 weeks with no subscription fee and youre still somehow managing to find something to complain about. A lot of work goes into these patches and youre not going to get what you want every time. Learn to accept that youre not always going to be happy with a content update.

Except it’s not a new dungeon. It’s a new path added to an already existing dungeon. The same dungeon, the same mobs, the same npcs, etc etc, just a new direction to take. And to top it off, they are just giving us reskins of old weapons by adding “glow” effects to them.

So this isn’t really a new content patch. It’s just an update of old content. Just like the last patch. It was just an update to old content.

Have you already run this new path? Your speculations are not fact. One of the screenshots did indeed show a brand new enemy.

But again, it is not a brand new dungeon. Sorry, but that is a fact. Not speculation.

Yeah, nope. Never going to buy into this whole RNG in the Gem Store. It’s a horrible way to do business that just further proves the company cares more about greed than satisfied players.

I guess I should thank Anet for the extra money in my bank. Hundreds of dollars that I would of originally spent on this game, now saved up in my bank for something else instead. No sense in giving Anet anymore of my money if they continue to see us as bags of money instead of actual players.

I have been away a while and don’t know what RNG means. Can someone spell it out so that this thread makes sense?

RNG in pretty much all games stands for Random Number Generator/Generated. It’s a term used for random chance. Say you are farming for an item and it drops off of one boss. That boss has an RNG loot table for that item. Meaning the chance of you getting that item is random, not guaranteed. You could farm for months and never get it, while some other person can do it once, and get the item first time. Random is random. That is what RNG is. Learn that phrase here. Anet loves RNG and you’ll see a lot of it.

This whole “legendary” armor worries me a bit though (and I guess weapons fall under that category as well).

When they do eventually raise the level cap, and these “legendary” things scale to the next level cap, what is going to happen exactly? Are they going to end up in your bags since you can’t wear them anymore cause you aren’t level 90? Meaning you are going to have to re-gear your character all over again cause you don’t meet the requirements for your “legendary” gear.

Or are they going to level with you like Heirlooms in WoW? Where they change level with you as you are leveling. So when you hit 81, they will be 81. 82, 82. 83, 83, etc etc all the way up to 90.

I think this is the one thing that worries me. These weapons/gear are supposed to always be top tier, and when we get a level increase to 90, what is going to happen to them? Will we be naked with them in our inventory and have to re-gear our characters?

Btw AN told that ALL the mf gear will become account bound.

They lied and tricked you basically. Check the bug forum.

MF items NOT account bound but soulbound

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

SpyderArachnid.5619

Yeah sorry, but this is complete bull.

Your release page, the stuff you said before the release and everything, states that ALL MF gear will become Account Bound. Nowhere has it been stated that soul bound gear will remain soul bound.

From the release page: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-September-3-2013/

Weapons, armor, and trinkets that had a magic find stat combo have been flagged as account bound and will now allow double-clicking to permanently change the stat combo. This is a one-time ability, and the options are dependent on where the item was acquired. All trading post listings for these items have been cancelled and the items returned to the poster.

From the front page news: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/economy-report-brace-yourself-disequilibrium-is-coming/

Weapons, armor and trinkets with magic find will become account bound, lose their current stats and will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item.

And now after you release this change, you decide to tell us that soul bound items remain soul bound? So you lied and mislead everyone then right? Don’t give us some PR spin. It was a straight up lie what you told us before. And you haven’t even bothered to correct it either. They still state those exact words.

This isn’t one of those “the players ASSUMED something and were wrong” things. This is you misleading everyone and lying to them. Sorry, but this is unacceptable.

Defiance? Never heard of it, what is it about?

I did try Neverwinter & Firefall but can’t say they were any better than GW2. Neverwinter was a grind for leveling up (killing mobs and doing pointless quests).
Firefall just left me wandering cluelessly.

I still hope there are better mmos out there than GW2 though. If GW2 is the best one there is, the whole genre is messed up.

Defiance is like Mass Effect without the story. Kind of, I think. That sounds kind of right lol. It’s based off the SyFy show Defiance (which probably doesn’t help you if you don’t know what it is in the first place lol). It’s not really a bad game, just doesn’t have a lot of content and was poorly done. The idea is nice, but the execution needed a lot of work.

lol that’s hilarious… how many bags?

Personally I ended up with 707 bloodstone dusts from a total of 79 bags.

that is a reasonable amount then, not much of grind. How’s Dragonites?

Dragonites are time gated. You only get them once per day per location. From:

-Temple of Orr Chests
-World Boss Chests
-WvWvW Keeps and Castles

God 8 Dragonite Ore from the Stonemist Lord.

Jormag seems to have gave between 15-25 dragonite ore

I had received 25.

Oh sweet. Nice to hear they drop multiples instead of just one.

Maybe this isn’t so bad after all then. The rest of those mats aren’t too bad to get. It was the Ascended mats I was worried about the most. But seeing as they drop in multiples, that definitely eases the mind.

Clearly they do NOT like to do it. If they liked to do it they wouldn’t be so mad about this because it would be a chance to do it all over again. I can’t say how much I wish some achievements, actual achievements, were character bound so I could have the satisfaction of completing them all over again.

This is not people doing what they like. This is people being compelled to do something they don’t like in order to get an arbitrary sense of accomplishment, and satisfaction at having filled a list.

And now you prove you have no idea what you are even talking about. You don’t understand anything that is going on and you have no idea what it is like to be in our shoes.

We DO like this. That is why we do it. If we didn’t like it, we wouldn’t do it. We do it for our own personal accomplishments. From your posts, I’m assuming you have never done anything for your own personal enjoyment, and instead, only do things if you are getting rewarded for it. So you obviously have no idea what it is like to lose all your hard work that you did and have to do it all over again.

The fact that we like to do it, doesn’t mean that we don’t care if we lose all our hard work, money, materials, and time spent doing it. I don’t know where you got that idea from, but it is completely wrong.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-27-arenanet-holds-frank-reddit-debate-on-guild-wars-2-loot-grind

Ascended gear was designed to sit between Exotic and Legendary items. “It was not specifically designed before launch,”

So no, it was never intended on as you so claim. It was a decision made to appease traditional MMO players that needed a treadmill.

Adding a single set of gear does not make a treadmill….. stop spouting crap without even knowing what a gear treadmill is.

Your response has absolutely nothing to do with my response whatsoever. So please, stop “spouting crap” without reading first.

Gear Treadmill...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

I think one of the biggest oversights people that complain about a “treadmill” are making is the fact that in treadmill based games each new tier obsoletes content behind it due to power creep. That’s the simplest way to determine a treadmill… will content become obsolete with the new tier and the means to access that tier? When a new raid/tier is introduced in WoW, for example, the old raids are left empty, barren… wasted closed off space that’s ignored. This will not be the case in GW2… nothing will be rendered obsolete. There is no treadmill.

True, for PvE though. We still haven’t got a full set of Ascended yet either. When the rest of the gear arrives, that small stat advantage that everyone likes to talk about, will be a large stat advantage when people are decked out in an entire set of Ascended gear.

But content was designed around Exotics (or was it rares? I can’t remember). So Exotics will always be good enough to do anything (except for high level Fractals).

But in PvP, this gear will render Exotics obsolete. So while PvE will be unaffected (except when they decide to make Agony global), PvP will be feeling it.

Again your analogy doesn’t fit the situation. I understand how you are feeling, you put time and money into completing a goal of yours only to have all your work erased. What I am saying is it doesn’t matter.

You have no idea how they feel, don’t act like you do. It’s obvious you don’t cause you are saying “It doesn’t matter”.

It doesn’t matter TO YOU. You are not losing everything you worked hard for. You are not losing all the gold, materials, and time spent. You are losing nothing. You have no idea what it feels like to lose everything you worked hard for and have to do it all over again.

We are losing money, materials, and time that we put into something that we enjoyed. It is how we play the game. You obviously will never understand that cause it doesn’t matter to you.

They aren’t losing EVERYTHING either. They’re losing a handful of exotics.

But guess what! It’s alright. Would you like to know why? Because they would have had to make those recipes over again anyway in order to level up to 500. They have to level up to 500 too because their crazy OCD will require them to have all the Ascended recipes too. This will just allow them to get up to 500 faster because discovery is better for leveling than making orange recipes.

I’m just going to assume that you haven’t read anything in this thread and have no idea what is even going on. Cause from your post here, you seem very clueless.

We are not losing Exotics. Like has been stated over and over and over in this thread (something that you should know if you even bothered to find out what was going on in this thread), we are losing money, materials, and time. The items that we crafted don’t equal anywhere near the amount it cost to discover all those recipes. We still lost tons of gold and mats.

And you know what? This could of all been avoided if Anet would of just added new recipes or even retroactively rewarded experience for those that already completed them. But no. They took the lazy way out. They decided to just wipe everything and make us all do it again because they couldn’t be bothered to retroactively reward us the experience for what we already did or even bother to make new recipes.

Which in the process means, now we have nothing to show for any of the money, materials, and time we lost doing all that. It is basically like Anet just came in and took a bunch of our gold and materials for no purpose. And now we have to spend all that money again, all those materials again, and all that time again doing what we already did in the first place.

So while we are wasting double the money, double the mats, and double the time to get all this done again, everyone else is unaffected. And Anet doesn’t care that they are doing this to their players. They’d rather take the easy way out and screw over some of their players, instead of doing something that works for everyone.

Legendary / Asc. are the final tiers of gear.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

Ok kiddies like me shed some light for u all.

Legendary gear will always be top tier even if they increase the lvl cap since they now made them more for looks.

Ascended is and will be the only tier under legendary.

Grind is the core of all mmos u had to grind lvls right u had to do dungeons and other things to get the armor look u want right, so u had to grind. Anets grind for gw2 is very small compared to other mmos stop bringing that pointless thing up.

Once patch hits unless Legendary weapons get better stats than ascended when u chose the stats u want the weapons will be only for looks and the ability to change the stats.

Now for those still saying anet said no grind well guess what. you dont have to do it. u can do all the content of the game in rare gear.

Ty have a good patch day and enjoy sab.

Well you’re wrong on a few things.

They never said Ascended will be the final tier of gear. They said they will not add another tier of gear this year, as in 2013. Now tell us why they won’t say they will never another tier of gear ever? Seems a bit odd that they only say 2013, instead of ever. Meaning next year, they could add a new tier if they wanted cause they only said they wouldn’t add one in 2013, not ever.

And the grind in GW2 is not smaller than other MMOs, sorry. In another MMO, I can go run a dungeon and my gear can drop. Nice, I just got my gear with hardly any grind. But in GW2, I have to collect 500 of this, 300 of this, 250 of that, etc etc. And I am time gated and content gated. Sorry but that is way more grind than other MMOs that are on par with GW2 (I say on par, cause GW2 is supposed to be a AAA MMORPG, not some F2P cheap MMORPG).

And you do realize everything in this game is optional right? The whole “you don’t have to do it” is irrelevant. This game was designed and advertised as a cosmetic game. When you put those cosmetics behind a grind, then your game becomes about grind. It doesn’t matter if it is not needed. GW2 is a cosmetic game. It was advertised that way. The main goal of GW2 is getting cosmetics. They put those cosmetics behind a grind, so the main goal of GW2 is to now grind. Which goes against their whole “We don’t make grindy games” philosphy, when your main feature of the game is a grind.

Gear Treadmill...

SpyderArachnid.5619

Eh…. head hurts with all this treadmill talk in multiple threads…

Honestly, it’s a slippery slope. On one side, it can be considered a textbook treadmill. On another, it’s not.

As a textbook treadmill, when the rest of Ascended gear is introduced, it will make Exotics obsolete. The stat increase will be high enough to cause a noticeable difference. Currently, it causes a minor difference. But once a full set of gear is released, it will be better than Exotics by far. The reason why this is textbook treadmill, is because of PvP. Sure, in PvE, you can do anything in Masterwork gear (except for high level Fractals). But in PvP, it is always a case of being BiS. There is no way around it. PvP is competition. Thus making it a gear treadmill.

But on the other end, it’s not really a textbook treadmill. Because of PvE like explained above. At least until Agony resistance becomes global, then it will become required to have Ascended gear. Making it a gear treadmill. Although Anet said that Agony resistance will stay in Fractals only, they have said a lot of things that they have changed their minds on. This is no different. Hate to sound like a downer, but you can’t believe anything they tell you.

So right now, as a PvP player, this is the start of a treadmill. But as a PvE player, currently, this is a very minor optional treadmill. They’ve already stated that they plan on adding a “shallow power creep” to the game. This is just the start.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-27-arenanet-holds-frank-reddit-debate-on-guild-wars-2-loot-grind

Ascended gear was designed to sit between Exotic and Legendary items. “It was not specifically designed before launch,”

So no, it was never intended on as you so claim. It was a decision made to appease traditional MMO players that needed a treadmill.

Did AN promised to never add new gear tiers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SpyderArachnid.5619

Anet stated (I hate the word promise in this context) that if you grind for something in Guild Wars 2 it will be only cosmetic.

I don’t know at what point in time statements in interviews became promises. I see quite a large difference personally between a statement and a comment. After all, many statements are quite casual, where a promise implies something core.

I think I saw 3 mentions of the vertical progression thing during the years preceding the game, but it was definitely said and I’d have been happier with the game if Anet had stuck to their guns.

But I can also understand why they didn’t.

Edit: Here’s why I say it’s not a promise.

Father: Okay everyone we’re going to the zoo tomorrow.

Tomorrow arrives, it’s raining. Most of the kids don’t want to go to the zoo in the rain. The situation has changed.

Father: Let’s go to the arcade instead. That’s still fun.

Those who had their hearts set on going to the zoo naturally are angry, but I’m not so sure dad promised to go to the zoo. It was his intention to go to the zoo however…and circumstances changed.

That comparison doesn’t fit with what is going on here though. It was because of unknown circumstances that they couldn’t go to the zoo that day. Something that they could not help, that was forced upon them, that gave them no choice but to not go to the zoo. (plus zoos usually close if the weather is in unsuitable conditions) So it wasn’t because of their own free will that they couldn’t go to the zoo, it was forced upon them that they couldn’t go to the zoo.

What is going on with Anet is completely different. They had a choice. They weren’t forced by some mysterious act that made them have to go back on their word. They chose to change their direction. It wasn’t forced upon them because of a change they had no control over. They made the choice to do something else.

So they launched the game, they didn’t have metrics before they launched. The situation that came up was that people were leaving the game before they introduced ascended gear. Not just a few people, a lot of people. Anet saw a situation they hadn’t counted on and had options. What options?

Ascended gear was what they could implement fastest. Because for most MMOs once you lose the bulk of your crowd, the MMO drifts into obscurity. I’m pretty sure Anet thought cosmetic stuff would be enough for most people work for. I think they thought wrong…for most people.

So yes, the situation changes and they responded to it. The analogy holds.

It doesn’t though. It was still a choice, not something forced upon them.

1. Stay true to the original plan and deal with the losses, but keep the respect of your loyal playerbase by staying true to your original intent.

or

2. Add a new tier of gear for the traditional MMO players because they couldn’t accept GW2 for what it was advertised for. So you end up losing the trust of your loyal players and their money, in exchange for traditional MMO players who will never be satisfied with one new tier of gear and want more and more.

It still wasn’t forced upon them like your analogy so claims. It was a choice they made, not forced. Keep loyal players and keep true to what GW2 was advertised as, or abandon their loyal players and the original intent of the game to follow the traditional MMO route. They chose the latter. They weren’t forced to do it, they chose to do it.

Unlike your analogy which forced them not to go to the zoo. Anet wasn’t forced, they chose this.

No Grind -- The Quote

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think the downfall of players these days is that they want everything right now, and if there’s a time frame attached to it (which does not make something inaccessible), they confuse it for grind.
Patience =/= grind.

While that is true for some, I think in this situation, it’s not really about wanting it now, but wanting it more accessible. Right now, Ascended gear is time-gated and content-gated. There is no other way to obtain it except having to deal with time and content gates.

In other games, there is multiple ways to get gear. Epics for example (sure, we’ll use WoW epics. Nothing can go wrong with this analogy…) can be obtained via crafting, dungeons, raids, PvP, and just random drops. You aren’t forced into one type of content and stuck behind artificial time gates just to gear up. You can get the gear on your own time when it is convenient for you.

With GW2, you only have one option for Ascended gear. You have to deal with it being locked behind specific content and you have to deal with the time gates. You can’t play how you want and get the gear at your own pace. You have to do specific things that you might not like, just to obtain that gear and you have to wait to get that gear because it is time gated.

That is the issue in my opinion. It’s not about wanting it right now, it’s about wanting it to be more accessible through different ways of game play. Not gated behind specific content or time gated to force you to wait. Anet always said, you should be able to play how you want to play. This goes against that.

Sure, why not. We already have enough stuff that breaks immersion, let’s add modern school uniforms to that list now.

But with the way things are going, Anet will probably tease you by putting them on NPCs and never releasing them for sale. Heck, it’s what they did with the swimsuits. Put them on NPCs only while players went crazy wanting them in the gem store. Then Anet just ignores them and does nothing.

I remember devs stating that Ascended gear was always planned but wasn’t ready for release of the game.

I think the biggest mistake Anet made was not to inform the players to this effect prior to releasing Ascended gear. I think due to all the excitement it was simply forgotten to be mentioned.

Actually, it never was. Ascended gear was never planned before launch. A lot of people say Anet said that, when they never did. Here’s a quote that I posted in another thread that explains it.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-27-arenanet-holds-frank-reddit-debate-on-guild-wars-2-loot-grind

The first revelation was that “in retrospect it would have been better to have included Ascended gear at launch”, wrote Whiteside. As we know, Ascended gear was designed to sit between Exotic and Legendary items. “It was not specifically designed before launch,” Whiteside added. “However, the concept of progression rewards with a shallow curve bridging other rewards was.” The whole debate about a new tier of armour being added post-launch to placate goalless hardcore players would have been avoided, too.

So Ascended gear was never planned before release. Those who say that, are wrong.

No Grind -- The Quote

If anything, you should use this quote instead.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-27-arenanet-holds-frank-reddit-debate-on-guild-wars-2-loot-grind

“Please understand that we see the community as a ‘whole’ and therefore are not intending to design again for one specific type of player over another. This is a misconception and one that is not promoted by the team. We will continue to develop the game for the community as a whole, offering gameplay that caters to lots of different types of players in a unified approach that will evolve over time based on feedback and the direction the team as a whole wants to take.

Then ask yourself. Was Ascended gear designed for the “whole” community, or just a portion of it? And remember when they said (regarding the Queen’s Gauntlets) “We only expect a small percentage of players to complete this content”? Does that sound like they are making content for the “whole” community, or just a small portion of it? Even look at SAB. Was that designed with the “whole” community in mind, or just a portion of them?

This quote, you can clearly use instead. Because it is a blatant lie. They are not designing content for the whole community. They are designing content for just specific groups instead.

It depends on how you interpret the quote. You can’t realistically create content that caters to everyone because different people have different preferences. They’ll create one set of content that caters to a specific group of players, another set for another group, and so on. You don’t like jumping puzzles? There are dungeons, dynamic events, PvP, and WvW. You don’t like dynamic events? There’s world exploration, and crafting. Making a lot of things that cater to different people is what they’ve been doing.

Still, on the Ascended side of things, that quote is wrong. Because they have time-gated and content-gated Ascended items behind certain things. So if I wanted to get Ascended items, I have to do different content that I don’t like because it is gated behind only one feature. Which is the opposite of what that quote is talking about.

Ascended gear was designed for Fractals. A specific group of people do Fractals, and want Ascended gear. That content was designed for them only. Not the whole community. But, that content also pulled away from that design decision. Instead, they started gating Ascended gear behind things that were not Fractals. Making those who wanted Fractals, have to go do other content that was not designed with them in mind, just to gear up for content that was designed with them in mind.

This is not making content for the whole community. This is catering to specific groups, and then making those groups have to do different content that they don’t want, just to be able to do content that they do want. Which goes against that quote.

It’s all rather post release. So it’s not about the subject.

Yes, we know about these. They made these statements in November 2012 after launch. After many of us bought the game based on different statements that they made.

This was from their AMA to try and calm down all of the people who stated they would stop financially supporting this game because of the introduction of a new gear tier.

We are talking about the statements made pre-launch and their statements made in September 2012.

Ah, you guys are right. My mistake. Didn’t check the dates on those and wasn’t paying attention. I’ll keep looking for the stuff pre-launch and see what I can find.

There is one, and only one thing I have to ask those who spend the time/gold/materials to craft to fill out the collection.

Just one thing, very simple thing that effectively decides how big of an investment you ‘really’ lost.

What did you do with the resulting crafted item?

You put in time and money to get an item, so what did you do with it?

- Did you vendor it?

- Did you list it on the TP?

- Is it chilling out in your bank?

Why am I asking this? Because I cannot believe you are out so much money without getting something back. You created said items with materials and whatnot, spent time doing so. You should, as we all know, have gotten your money BACK from selling, if not make a profit depending on what you sold.

If there is any real loss, you simply spent a lot of time getting the recipes filled out, that is it. Any able-minded player would have sold the product crafted at a price to break even.

Although heaven forbid the product itself is less than the sum of its part, some recipes ARE such. Then yes, you lost maybe a few gold, but I assure you you haven’t lost hundreds.

This is what we the 99% are trying to get at. If the only investment you made was time then many of us have paid that same price.

We didn’t make nearly the amount of money back, than we actually did making it. It cost more money to make the item, than it did selling the item.

So we still lost more money than we made in the end. Which is what we have been explaining the entire time, yet no one is listening and everyone is ignoring that fact.

Found another quote, but it’s probably something you don’t want to hear. It talks about not having another tier, but instead, have enhancements to make your gear slightly more powerful over time. A “shallow power curve” as they so put it. Which is basically a gear treadmill, but with enhancements instead.

So expect further vertical progression in the future folks.

http://gw2.junkiesnation.com/2012/11/27/chris-whiteside-talks-ascended-gear-on-reddit/

That is why there is no plan for new Rarity Tiers of loot but there are plans to enhance or gain items within the existing rarity design whose properties continue on a shallow power curve.

And Mike O’Brien went on to say:

Some progression is OK, but pushing players onto a gear treadmill isn’t OK and isn’t what the game is about. I don’t think [ascended gear] invalidates the fundamental concept that GW2 can have gradual stat progression without being a gear treadmill game.

Unless I’m mistaken, gradual stat progression is a gear treadmill. Thus why it is called a gear treadmill, cause you are constantly chasing the highest stats and it never ends.

EDIT: Forgot to add this as well for those who say Ascended gear was supposed to be in at launch, but never made it in time. This proves you wrong.

I personally don’t see anything in those quotes that would indicated they would not add something like ascended gear. Does not take 1000 hours to get, it is not over-powered compared to top gear now. It is ugly from what I have seen but then so are legendaries.

Actually, Ascended gear does take about that to get. It takes a couple months just to gear up one character in Ascended gear, currently. That’s if you only get one weapon and don’t dual wield as well. When they add Ascended armor, expect those couple months to raise to several months. Everything is time gated with Ascended gear, so yes, it will take more than 1000 hours to get a full set (and that is only one one character. Imagine gearing up alts or getting a secondary set).

As for the quotes, yeah I know. I was trying to find the quote where they stated that GW2 will use horizontal progression like GW1, but I’m having difficulty remembering which interview/blog post it was from. Those quotes I posted are just some quotes that reference VP and grind, but I haven’t found the exact quote yet.

Imagine you spent 200g on gearing up your character. Then Anet shows up and removes all your gear cause of some new feature they are introducing to gear. And all they can say to you is “oh well, do it all again”. So now you’re out 200g for all that money and time spent gearing up your character, and you have to spend another 200g and time again just to gear your character back up. Does that seem fair to you?

You mean like putting in ascended gear that makes all our exotics trivial?

/checkmate

Sort of, but not really. You aren’t losing your Exotic weapons cause Ascended weapons were released, are you? You still have them. Nothing was taken away from you and made you have to go do it again to get it back.

Unlike with these recipes, we are losing them. And in order to get them, we have to spend even more money and more time on getting them again.

Except it is the same- your main concern is collecting, you have to do it again. Everyone else’s is gearing, and everyone else has to do it again. This ‘doing the same task all over again’ is something we’ve been doing all throughout mmo history- at least in this case, it benefits you because you get discovery xp all over again. I’d gladly give up my exotics if it meant getting progress towards my ascendeds when I pick them up again- but, it doesn’t work like that for us.

Except you’re forgetting one thing still. Just like everyone is forgetting the exact same thing all the time in this thread.

We are losing money, materials, and time.

It is not just recipes. All the money, materials, and time we spent discovering all those recipes is gone. Vanished. Erased. Disintegrated. Non-existant. Etc etc etc.

We have to spend all that money again, all those materials again, and all that time again to discover every recipe that we used to have. Meaning we are going to lose more money, more materials, and more time again.

As soon as you guys realize that this is not just about losing recipes, the sooner you’ll understand the reason behind this concern. For those that didn’t discover a bunch of recipes, this is going to have no effect on you. But for those that already discovered all those recipes, they are going to lose a lot of gold, materials, and time because of it.

Here’s your quote (from what I could find at least). The original blog has been removed, so you can find all this information on the wiki.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2_Design_Manifesto

Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs. It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill; it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun rather than just having fun; and of course, it doesn’t have a monthly fee.

It all gets back to our basic design philosophy. Our games aren’t about preparing to have fun, or about grinding for a future fun reward.

http://venturebeat.com/2012/05/21/guild-wars-2-interview-monetization/#s:guildwars2-16

Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.

And here he goes backwards on the previous quote:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/13tuac/im_the_studio_design_director_on_guild_wars_2_ama/c77csxm

How is introducing VP[Vertical Progression] respecting the player? Because it’s fun to be challenged and rewarded. Because it’s fun to have the character you play grow and evolve over time. Because ArenaNet (sort of) held a hard line against all VP with GW1 — no VP ever, year after year — and it wasn’t that fun. It was stagnant.
We use purely cosmetic rewards for things that would be outside the reach of typical players. I have an oft-quoted line about that: “If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game.”
Since you’re describing yourself as an average player and asking about average players, it shouldn’t be out-of-bounds for us to give you something new in the game that’s more meaningful to your character than a purely cosmetic change.

There is several more in there somewhere as well, those are just some of them. Enjoy.

This is hands down one of the most baffling asinine arguments I have seen on the forums yet. Essentially a bunch of OCD crafters angry their list is no longer complete. Discovering exotics prior to the new update holds no purpose unless you need to use those items or wish to trade them. To discover every single recipe seems very pointless. You gain no xp, no achievements, or any other reward for doing so. It seems like the sole purpose is to fulfill some compulsive urge.

Anet should not refund anyone anything in resetting them, you are losing nothing in the process. You still keep your learned recipes from Recipe Items, and will now actually gain xp for discovering recipes. It’s mind boggling you have somehow found a way to find fault in this.

Let’s explain this one more time since people can’t be bothered to read any other posts and learn exactly why we are upset. I’ll even use an example for those that are dense and can’t understand it.

Say you spent 500g on discovering every single recipe in the game. I don’t want to hear it was pointless or there is no reason to do it and it is our fault for doing that. The point of the matter is simply this.

You spent 500g on discovering everything. The items you got from discovering all those recipes, you sold for about 100g total. All in all, you lost about 400g discovering every single recipe in the game. Yes you’re out 400g, but you have every recipe now. For completionists, that means a lot.

Now Anet is going to remove all those recipes you worked hard to discover. You spent tons of money, tons of materials, and tons of time learning all of them. You lost 400g discovering all of those recipes. And now you have nothing to show for it anymore.

You are now out 400g, AND you have to spend another 500g to learn all of those recipes again. So in total, you are losing all your recipes and 900g because Anet reset all your hard work and money spent and are making you do it all over again.

It will not be cheaper and you are losing more money than you lost because you have to do everything again. Whether you are a completionist or not, it is a messed up thing to do to their players. They are losing gold, materials, and time spent because Anet was too lazy to make new recipes and instead are going to reset all that hard work and make us do it all over again.

Now can you guys understand that? Let me put it in a new perspective since you see this as pointless.

-snip-

/sigh. You still aren’t getting it, and I’m tired of explaining it. So one last time and I’m done.

As a completionist, those recipes mean a lot to us. We spent more gold and mats than we got in return for all those recipes we discovered. We took the time and learned all of those recipes to have the full set in our crafting panel. It didn’t come cheap and it was a lot of work to get all those recipes.

Whether we salvaged or sold the item we made, we didn’t even make a 10th of what the cost was to make them in the first place. So yes, when Anet takes away all those recipes we worked hard for, we are still losing money and materials and time spent. And we will lose more money having to relearn all those recipes again. We will not gain more money in the long run. We are going to lose more money than we already lost to begin with.

And Anet doesn’t care. If they did care, they would of took the time to make new recipes instead of resetting all our recipes and making us do it again. Or they would retroactively reward us the experience for all the recipes we already learned. Why not? They already did that with achievements. And some will say “But it will be unfair if you have 500 crafting instantly”. You do realize people are going to get 500 crafting within the first hour or two when this content goes live right? Rewarding players retroactively won’t change that.

In the end, we are losing more money, not gaining. And Anet is doing nothing to reimburse us for all the money, materials, and time we spent already discovering all those recipes. They are screwing over the completionist players with this change. Those who already spent the money, mats, and time to learn all those recipes are going to have to spend even more money, mats, and time to learn everything all over again because Anet is too lazy to make new recipes, so they are making us do everything over again.

There’s a lot of things I hate, but I’ll just keep it to one major one.

I hate people who settle for mediocre instead of the best.

For instance, those who always say “bugs are in every game. It’s just how games are”. Or “games will be buggy. Stop complaining about it”. No, sorry. We shouldn’t settle for this. This is why games are buggy and never get truly fixed. Cause the video game community has gotten so used to buggy junk, that they are now settling for it and think it is the norm. I don’t care if <insert other MMO> has bugs as well, that doesn’t mean that GW2 should be allowed to be buggy.

Stop settling for mediocre junk, and start expecting better. It’s the only way stuff will get fixed and game companies will strive to be better. Game companies have been shipping half-made games and buggy content all because players expect it now. Raise your bars and start expecting better. We shouldn’t expect the norm to be buggy unfinished games. We need to start expecting the best so game companies will stop giving us junk.
