This actually seems to be an issue with a lot of people here on the forums. Noticed a couple other threads as well about this same thing.
Either this is truly a bug and people are not getting their intended weapons, or a lot of people are not checking what weapon they have highlighted (and claiming it is a bug hoping for a refund).
Me personally, it was just a bad call on my part. I wanted the Greatsword, so I selected it. Then went around previewing the others afterwards. Didn’t realize my selection was changed from right clicking and selecting preview, so ended up with a Trident instead. So now I have a Trident I’ll never use, and have to wait to get the Greatsword and start farming more AP just to get the rest of the set I actually wanted.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
If by the whole WvWvW thing, you mean you are going to level them in WvWvW, then I’d say Necro. Because it is fun to spam Marks and Wells on zergs.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Is this all cutscenes in game? Does this happen with all of your characters? Screenshots are appreciated!
Thank you!
Hard to tell on my other characters, as they have all done their personal story already so don’t have any other cutscenes like the PS ones to test it with.
But so far, from what I have seen, it seems to happen with all my cutscenes on that Necro that I kept showing screenshots for. Was leveling her through her personal story and all cutscenes had that intense bloom effect going on.
EDIT: Made a new Sylvari to try it out on something different, and while it is not as bright as it is for my Human, it is still kind of bright. Screenshot below to show it, and added another screenshot of my graphic settings so you can see what I am using. The resolution got cut off, but I’m running at 1600×900. Also added my Nvidia settings to see if maybe it is a conflict between the two.

I should have a lot more than 1 mini. I don’t remember what happened to them. They might be in my bank…
I can put them in HoM too? What if I accidentally dropped them?
Unsure what you mean by dropped them, do you mean destroyed/deleted them? If so, you can’t get them back.
And yes, there is a monument for mini pets. Figured you knew that already as your thing says you have one there already.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
You don’t need armor for Mox or Ranger pets….that was my point. Have you read any of the guides to filling the HoM? They show the easiest way to get points. =)
Oh, and not a ‘bro’, lol. =P
Edit: If you put Mox in, you will get your ‘one more point’! Yay!
How do I get Mox?
Mox is a giant golem standing outside any main city. As long as you are over level 10, he’ll be standing there. Just go up to him, talk to him, and you got him.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Just a quick question.
Are you going to the HoM and activating your titles? Some titles don’t require max rank to be placed on the monument. As long as you have a banner there, you can go place a title there. Your PvP titles count.
And if you don’t have a banner on a monument, you can buy them from players.
I’d suggests buying up some cheap minis. There is usually players selling minis in EotN for cheap (it’s been awhile so unsure if they still are). I think I still have GW1 installed on my other computer, so I can always log on and see what birthday gifts I have and toss some minis your way (it’s been awhile since I’ve played, so I should have a nice stockpile :P).
Just PM me when you’re ingame later or something and we can work something out.
As for the heroes, have you bought any of them armor? Like their special sets? Once you do that, you can put them in the HoM. Like Inculpatus said, Mox is a given. Ranger pets at level 20 are a given as well.
Edit: With titles, as long as you completed a campaign, you can put it up on your monument. Even FoW, UW, DoA, etc etc can go on the monument and count. They don’t have to be titles.

Like someone suggested, just add checkpoints which if you don’t clear the checkpoints, the players won’t be able to open the chest.
This is an awesome suggestion come to think of it.
While I understand some people have difficulty doing JPs, this would help those players get those achievements still, without rewarding them the loot for doing no effort.
I know a lot of players out there just want the achievement checked off their list, so this would work for them.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Ugh. Disgusting.
Every since these things were introduced, I have wasted millions of Karma on them. And I haven’t got one single mini yet from it. I have the worst luck in this game, or there is just something wrong with my account cause I never get any good drops. Nothing but junk all the time.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Yeah I’m getting this from Risen Squires. Doing all my Personal Story in Orr at the moment and every time they hit me, they permanently cripple me.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Well in game (out of cutscenes) it isn’t too bad. It mostly seems to act up during cutscenes more than anything else.
Screenshot below to show regular game footage (I know, not the best light, but figured I’d take one randomly while in game so you can see that it isn’t a constant thing). And another of a cutscene right afterwards. It seems to mostly be cutscene related.

Thought I’d bring this back up, as I am still having this issue and haven’t yet found a solution to it.
Any help at all would be appreciated. I am drawing a blank. Someone said in a different thread that it was post processing that was causing it, but turned it off and still have the same results.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Given the number of years many of us put into GW1, as opposed to the 1 year GW2 has been out, fair would be to make the HoM worth 50,000 points instead of a measly 500 ;-)
Agreed. I mean I could care less since they’re achievement points and affect nothing, but given the amount of work we did to get 50/50 I would not turn away anything extra.
If you love GW1 so much, go back to that game, seriously. This is not GW1, and to constantly have you “veterans” touted as some kind of reason for celebration when there are many of us who do not share your titles but who did play GW1 and support Anet just as much as you did yet do not get half as much recognition – well, it makes me wonder why we are playing GW2 in the first place.
Let’s also link PvP rankings to GW1 shall we? And let’s allow our wealth in GW1 to transfer over also! What else should we do? Let’s transfer over the number of character slots…
Except the HoM Achievement points are worthless. Just cause someone has 500 points from their HoM in GW1 doesn’t make them any better than anyone.
They are just points. There is tons of players that have tons more points than GW1 players, that never even played GW1. For instance, I only have 4k achievement points. And I played GW1 and got my extra 500 points from there. Does that mean I am better than everyone else all the sudden? I didn’t go up on the leaderboards or get any special advantage over anyone.
So exactly what is the big deal? This wasn’t a problem before and everyone knew about this since launch. Now all the sudden it is a big deal? Seriously?
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Haven’t you learned by now? Anet loves time-gated content.

From what I recall Anet saying pre-launch and what the gw1 wiki still says “The bonuses are not intended to confer a significant advantage for original Guild Wars players over those new to the Guild Wars games”.
With this change it effectively gives gw1 players an instant 2 gold, 1% magic find and all the other rewards from the first 2 ap chests. But more importantly to me a permanent 500 point advantage on the leaderboards which for most of the leaderboard is well over 100 ranks difference. It just gives too much weight to something that is a separate activity from gw2.
Please explain how that is an advantage? Are they better players than you now? Do they do more damage? Are they more prestige than you are? Can they fly or teleport to their destination instantly? Do they have insta-kill weapons?
The answer to all of that, is no.
thus, no advantage. The leaderboards do not make you a better player.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
I’m a PvEr, but I still play SPvP. Not a fan of W3.
I think most PvE players tend to have this feeling of safety when they play. Meaning they are in control of what is happening. They choose who to fight, how to fight, and can do it in a leisurely way. It is a safe environment for them to have fun in.
With PvP (any kind really), there is no safety net for them. It won’t be on their terms and they have to react fast unlike in PvE. Someone could simply come up behind them and kill them within a few hits. Which frustrates some PvE players as they are not in control of their “game”. They want to do fights on their terms and the way they choose to. They don’t want to be forced into fights that they are not ready for or have no chance of surviving.
Also take into account, some of the PvP players are not very welcoming to PvE players. Not singling you out, as I know PvE players can be the same towards PvP players as well. It’s the separation that makes people hesitant to join as well. The attitudes of some of the PvP players makes people “afraid” that they won’t be up to the standards of PvP players and end up getting belittled or insulted.
I remember my first time in W3 was not a fun experience. Got called all kinds of names cause I wasn’t following orders and not listening. I had no idea what half the abbreviations meant or what anyone was saying. When people said to do certain things, I had no idea what they meant. Even got told to kill myself, imagine that.
So yeah, it can be a very unwelcoming experience to new players joining W3. Thus most are hesitant to go and would rather stay in a place where they are comfortable and don’t have to deal with such things.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Was 20, not 50. And 20 is not 500. And ppl with 10k+ points were doing dailies, all of them, day after day, long before there were leaderboards.
For 20 pts, if it was that, you only need to play 2 days more than the other guy. That sounds viable. For 500 you need 25 times more. I’m sure now you see why 500 is far bigger deal than 20.
All that kittening about loving new points coming from ppl who apparently don’t care about points is amazing. Or is it that now you really care, after you were unjustly rewarded and find yourself feeling like it’s a competition too?
Leaderboards should stay, GW1 AP points should be completely removed from that ranking.
So what if the person from GW1 plays those 2 days as well then? You’d still be under them no matter what.
What I am saying is, GW1 players will always be on top regardless of how many points you earn. If you reach 10,000 points, that GW1 player will still have 10,020 points. Even if you do two days of dailies to get 10,020, they will have 10,040 if they do those days to. No matter what, they will always be ahead.
It has been this way since the beginning and we have always known it would be this way. So how is 500 any different than 20? It doesn’t matter if you do 25 days of dailies to catch up or not. If they do 25 days of dailies as well, they will still be ahead of you. No matter what, they will always be ahead.
So why is it a big issue now, but wasn’t before? Oh it was fine when it was only 20 points, but now it’s unfair that it is 500 points? In both scenarios, they are still ahead and always have been. So why is it all the sudden an issue now when it wasn’t before?
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Was very happy with the rewards (which is rare for me to be happy about an RNG box).
Got some XP, Karma, Glory, and MF boosters which I can definitely use. Repair Canister, Bank Access express thingy, and then a crate of PvP equipment.
I was worried about the PvP equipment, but when I opened it, I was very happy. Got a bunch of stuff that I didn’t have in my locker and stuff I can use on my SPvP character.
So all in all, very pleased. Best reward chest ever.
Oh that was my second chest. First chest was still good as well. Got about the same kind of boosters which helped out a lot cause I’m leveling my Necro (got 4 levels just from doing events around the Bazaar). Then some copper gathering materials which I sent over to my lower level who I am planning on level next. All in all, not too bad.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Like I posted in the other thread, I’m going to say the same thing here.
Before the HoM rewarded 500 points, it awarded 50 points. So when you had 10,000 achievement points, the GW1 player had 10,050 points. So they were still ahead of you no matter what.
But did anyone complain? No. Was there a bunch of QQ about it? No there wasn’t. No one cared. Again, no one cared at all. It didn’t matter at all that people with GW1 were still 50 points ahead of those who never played GW1.
But now all the sudden, everyone is up in a tizzy over the exact same thing. Now that you have 10,000 achievement points and the GW1 player has 10,500 achievement points, it is all the sudden a massively big deal. Why? It’s the same thing that has been happening before, and no one complained at all. So why is everyone complaining now about the same thing?
This is absolutely ridiculous that people are now complaining about something that has been going on for a long time. Before it was perfectly fine for GW1 players to be ahead, and now all the sudden it’s unfair for GW1 players to be ahead? Makes no sense.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Honestly, they shouldn’t of been made in the first place in my opinion.
It’s achievement points. Not anything special or skill wise. It is just a way to flaunt your ability to grind and wave your digital manhood in other people’s faces for having more points than they do.
And with all the complaints about the Hall of Monuments giving an extra 500 points, it should just be removed. I love how no one was complaining when they only gave 50 points, yet once it hit 500, everyone threw a fit.
Think of it like this. Even if you had 10,000 Achievement points, the person who played GW1 would of had 10,050 Achievement points. But it wasn’t a big deal was it? No one complained at all. But now that it is awarding 500 points, everyone is making it a big deal. Doesn’t make any sense to me and is rather ridiculous to complain about it now.
So how was it fine before, but now it is unfair?
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
What other achievements am I missing? I’m sure that is all of them.
It seems you didn’t take into account the kites, and 3 of them do not require jumping.
Ah yes, forgot they were all single achievements with one big achievement in the end for all of them. Thanks for correcting that. That is still not enough achievements though to be able to get the meta without having to deal with jumping puzzles.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Actually if you can’t even do that, you can use the lightning skill to get across. All you need to do is to place your cursor and yourself correctly.
You don’t get the lightning skill until after you have traversed the platforms with the wind skill. There is no lightning on the lower levels. So you can’t use it to get past the wind platforms.
There is plenty of lightning on the lower levels. There’s one near the sea level just on the ground and another a few meters before the super jump part hidden in plain sight under a small set of stairs.
There’s also 2 other sets that I remember, one also trivial to get and the other a little more tricky but who cares?
Ah my mistake then. I didn’t see those down below. Apologies. I’ll have to try them out to see if they help.
EDIT: Just tried out the Lightning to get on the platforms and sure enough, it works great. So for those having trouble traversing the platforms, use the Lightning.
Thanks for that suggestion.

As I said, it requires a jumping puzzle just to get to the NPC to talk to him. Unless I’m mistaken and he is on the lower levels before you have to start jumping.
Just no. You cannot call that a jumping puzzle :/
All you have to do is walk forward and use the skills you are given in the very obvious places. So walk forward and press 1, 2 or 3 at times.
Just pressing a button is not going to get you across the platforms. You still have to use your movement skills to aim and land on the platforms.
For someone that doesn’t have good coordination, they can’t do that. The wind thing just shoots you in the air. It doesn’t automatically place you on the platform.
So yes, it is a jumping puzzle to traverse the platforms. And if you don’t have the coordination to do it, you’ll never make it up them.
There is 18 achievements total. 5 of those achievements do not require you to traverse a jumping puzzle. Meaning you still have to do 11 achievements that require you to traverse a jumping puzzle in order to get the meta done.
The mini game achievements do not count ?
What other achievements am I missing? I’m sure that is all of them.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Want to know what else is optional? Playing the game in the first place. You choose to play Guild Wars 2 just like the rest of us. Don’t like it? Don’t play it. That’s the thing about gaming, there’s one for everyone. I happen to like jumping puzzles, and I bet there are many like myself. It’s as simple that.
So we should all just quit because we don’t like a feature? That’s a little extreme don’t you think? I bet Anet would love for that to happen.
“Hey if you don’t like something in our game, just quit! It’s not like we need anyone playing the game at all!”
Great suggestion….
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Grandmaster of Om requires jumping puzzle? That’s getting far fetched XD
As I said, it requires a jumping puzzle just to get to the NPC to talk to him. Unless I’m mistaken and he is on the lower levels before you have to start jumping.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Nope the point your missing is they clearly put that JP would be optional however if most of the living story is going to add them then that means the whole thing is nothing more then optional. So I salute anet for wasting time and money of paying players.
I think we don’t have the same definition of “optional”. You can get the 16 achievements required for the chest without doing the kites in the JP or finding the 40 crystals.
So those 3 kites tied to JP ? Fully optional. Except for achievement points.
There is 18 achievements total. 5 of those achievements do not require you to traverse a jumping puzzle. Meaning you still have to do 11 achievements that require you to traverse a jumping puzzle in order to get the meta done.
1. Strangers From the Sky
2. Voyage to the Bazaar
3. Diverse Trader
4. Ascend to Zephyr Sanctum (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPCs)
5. Kookoochoo the Incredulous (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPC)
6. Lessons from the Sky (requires jumping puzzle)
7. Best Dive Ever (requires jumping puzzle)
8. Grandmaster of Om (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPC)
9. Like Clockwork (Unsure on this one, as I haven’t seen Air on lower levels)
10. Parachute Pliferer
11. Learn to Kite (requires jumping puzzle)
12. Sanctum Sprint (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPC)
13. Crystal Obsessed (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPC)
14. Crowd Favorite (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPC)
15. Pickup Completionist (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPC)
16. Speedy Sprinter (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPC)
17. Sanctum Sprinter (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPC)
18. Frequent Sprinter (requires jumping puzzle to get to the NPC)

Do you have to do the kites to be able to get the meta event done? Or are there other ways around as in all the others? That’s to bad they, since I won’t be doing the Obsidan one since when I did that JP nine mounths ago I swore to never return to it ever again.
Yes, this time around, you need all 16 achievements to get the Quartz node in your Home Instance.
Meaning you have to do the kites.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
I think I’m going to have to agree on the OP with this.
I’m sick and tired of jumping puzzles everywhere. I can’t do them at all, and it seems all Anet wants to do is release them. Yes, I get it. We can now jump in GW2. Wonderful. But let’s not revolve all your content around jumping.
So now I can’t even get the meta achievement cause we have to get all 16 for it, and most of them require jumping puzzles.
I am so sick of jumping puzzles. I guess this game is just not for me anymore if this is the direction Anet is going.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
IF there was no gem to gold feature
Big “if” right there.
There IS a gem store, so anyone can have access to it, hence not P2W
Oh I know it’s not P2W in the least. I was just clarifying and giving an example. As you can see from my first post, I don’t agree with the OP.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Well, are Superior Runes of Divinity P2W then? It’s incredibly expensive, and provides an all-around stat boost comparable to this food buff.
You don’t buy Runes from the gem store do you? No. So thus, they are not P2W. P2W means you are paying real money to gain an advantage over other players that don’t pay real money.
Cash -> Gems -> Gold -> Runes
A bit more round-about but still same effect
Well you can use gold ingame to buy the runes as well without spending a single dime. So it’s not much different than someone who paid money to exchange for gold.
What I am meaning by my response, is being able to pay money to get an advantage. As in, the only way you are able to have an advantage is by spending real money.
For instance, if there was no gem to gold feature, and they put higher stat gear in the gem store, then you would be paying for an advantage. Since there is no way ingame to get that gear, except by spending real money, then it would be considered P2W.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]

Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Oh boy. Here we go with this again.
It’s not P2W. Simply for this fact. It’s a recipe. You are not outright buying better stats, an advantage, or anything like that. You are buying the means to make an item that anyone can use. And it is a chance that you’ll even get it.
So sure, you can waste away hundreds of dollars trying to get the recipe, or you can spend a few silver to buy the Starcake from the TP. And the cost of making the consumable is way more expensive than the cost to buy the consumable straight up.
So in actuality, you’ll be losing money. Unless of course you have a massive overstock of those materials on hand, then you can actually make money.
But in the end, it is not P2W. You are not buying stats that no one else can get or an advantage over other players. The recipe may be account bound, but the item itself is not. Thus anyone can use it.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
I thought you also got Mystic Coins for clearing maps? Or has that been changed? Haven’t cleared a map in forever since I got 100%, so unsure if the rewards have changed.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Going to take a wild guess, and assume you were scammed by “mail trading” right?
If so, Anet doesn’t support it. You are doing so at your own risk. They want you to use their trading post, thus why they have never implemented a player to player trading system. The mail system being used for trading is unsupported, so don’t expect Anet to do anything.
Best you can do is ignore them back, and think twice about who you trade with in the future. You can report them for scamming, making a support ticket if you want, but there is no guarantee that anything will be done about it, because you are using an unsupported method to trade.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
It was mentioned, gosh what was it, a few months ago? But nothing has been done yet.
All because some guys used skill in WvWvW and took out an entire zerg with just four people, using AoE and communication. So everyone thought it was OP because of that, and Anet said they were going to nerf it. Which is mental.
But again, no AoE nerf has been done yet. There has been a few changes to certain skills that use AoE, but no massive nerf to AoE in general like everyone expected.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Interesting, but as to your first point, you’re comparing SPvP to Battlegrounds in WoW. Which are two completely different things. If anything, SPvP is more like Arenas in WoW, while WvWvW is like Battlegrounds in WoW. Two completely different things that you can’t compare.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Honestly (and I’m probably going to get yelled at for this), I find it to be lazy design.
They throw everything into one city, and host all the events in one city, just so they don’t have to work on the other cities.
In GW1, every city had an event going on. All cities were decorated for festivals (as well as all cities had quests for the festivals) and you could go to any city to get things done. Every city was the same basically, just visually different for taste.
But here in GW2, they only stick to LA. They don’t decorate the other cities or put extra festival quests in them. You can’t even use the Mystic Forge in other cities either (unless you have a portable one). They throw everything in LA, and completely forget everything else.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Glad to see them back making videos again. They have some amazing talent.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Honestly, I don’t want either. But if I have to choose, I’d rather have one month.
I mean, look at it like this. We keep getting these new updates, and they are riddled with bugs and exploits. It’s like as if no one tested this stuff. We get patch after patch to fix what the update broke. I mean, we are still getting patches to fix all the bugs in the last update, and the new update is right around the corner. Say hello to a bunch of new bugs that are going to be keep getting patched over and over.
The updates we are getting are a mess. I mean, when you are still trying to patch out the bugs that the last update did, just before the new update arrives, there is something seriously wrong there.
Now imagine that in a two week timetable. If one month wasn’t enough time to fix all the bugs between updates, then how are two weeks going to be enough time? It is going to be a major bug fest that is going to end up making this game nearly unplayable.
So honestly, I wish they would just stop, take a breather, and fix the game. And then take the time to test these updates fully before releasing them. Quality over quantity is way better in my opinion.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Eh, guess I’ll bite. Just 3?
1. The excessive amount of RNG. I don’t mean RNG in general. All games have RNG. I’m talking about how it is excessive in GW2. It goes over the top. And don’t even get me started on cash shop RNG. That is just wrong in so many ways.
2. Unrewarding. Let’s face it. GW2 is not rewarding. You barely get anything good for all the effort you do for anything. You work hard to kill a world boss and you are rewarded with a couple blues or junk. You do a dungeon and you are rewarded with junk. You are rewarded nothing for the effort you put into this game.
3. Diminishing Returns. So not only are you stuck dealing with excessive RNG, and horrible rewards, you also get slapped with DR, which makes you get nothing at all. Who’s brilliant idea was this? So if you are farming (and believe me, you have to farm to get anything in this game), you get punished for it. But seeing as everything requires grinding/farming to get, this makes absolutely no sense to have.
All three of these combined are all punishing the players for playing the game. The excessive amount of RNG, plus the unrewarding drops for all the work you put into the game, and then the DR that hits you if you farm/grind, is all unnecessary. And then they throw everything behind grinding/farming/gambling and then punish you for doing it. It’s a giant contradiction that makes me not even bother playing this game.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Same issue here.
I’ll go to login (which is rather annoying that the site makes me log in every time I visit it, instead of remembering me), and I press the red login button, and it turns white. Fingers crossed that Ascended backpieces also get included for WvW when Ascended weapons/armor make their debut then.
Sad thing is, Ascended back pieces were one of the first Ascended items to be introduced to the game. Yet they still haven’t made an alternative way to obtain them. But they have done it for every other Ascended piece.
Kind of odd that the first Ascended item is still restricted to Fractals, while all the others have alternative ways of obtaining them.
And if PvP players are having to wait this long just to get Ascended back items in PvP, think how long it will be before they can even get Ascended weapons and armor in PvP.

You seem to have forgotten the PvP players. While it is all fine for PvE, that stat difference is very major to them.
Ah yes, I did forget about PvP. Still, all ANet would need to do is buff up the gear in sPvP to Ascended tier by default. WvW is a bit more tricky, but you could include Ascended gear purchasable with Badges of Honor, so WvW players also have something to work towards besides WvW masteries.
WvW vendors do sell ascended items but laurels are still needed though.
You can earn laurels by doing PvP dailies and monthlies, so that’s not much of an issue. But you still cannot get an Ascended back piece for PvP. They have to do Fractals for that still (meaning PvP players have to do PvE content just to gear up for PvP).

Yes, the stat difference for 12 Ascended vs 12 Exotics is quite significant, but again, this isn’t a problem if you really don’t need Ascended gear to get through the majority of the game’s content. My level 80 characters are still running around with level 79 Masterwork gear (for a variety of reasons), and yet I still did pretty well in the Aetherblade dungeon when compared to other players.
You seem to have forgotten the PvP players. While it is all fine for PvE, that stat difference is very major to them.
So while your level 80 characters are still doing fine in level 79 greens in PvE, they wouldn’t do so well against a level 80 in full Ascended in PvP. Which is where the gear difference really matters. In PvE, you’re not competing against other players, while in PvP you are.
So while some people will think Ascended gear is fine cause it is restricted to Fractals and not needed any where else in PvE, they seem to forget the PvP crowd and how it will affect them.

The Backpack can only be obtained via doing Fractals for the Vial and Gift. You can’t craft it without doing Fractals. So you can’t get that solo.(…)http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sclerite_Karka_Shell_
Just to have the list complete.
Edit: Too slow *lol.
Like I stated above, you could only obtain that via temporary content. Temporary content that is no longer available. Meaning you can’t get it anymore.
So as I stated, you can ONLY get an Ascended backpack from Fractals.

For example, I think most people who like instances in most MMOs would probably have enjoyed Fissure of Woe, The Underworld, Domain of Anguish, The Deep, Urgoz’s Warren and Slaver’s Exile.
They wouldn’t.
The goal of “instances in most MMOs” (aka raids) is to get more powerful gear. None of your examples provides more powerful gear. Ergo, raiders would have hated them.
In fact, adding raids to Guild Wars 2 without giving them more powerful gear would only make raiders complain about how they wouldn’t be properly rewarded for their “work”.
Although I’m sure ArenaNet knows about this. I will be surprised if the GW2 “raids” aren’t when we will see the introduction of Ascended weapons and armors.
I’d be pretty surprised if Anet didn’t have ways outside of raids to get ascended weapons and armor.
Wait, why would you be surprised?
They have always gated Ascended gear. So why would this be any different if they add it to raids only?
When Ascended gear first came out, you could only get rings and a backpack. Rings were only Fractals and Backpack was only Mystic Forge (Rings are now available via Laurels as well). Then amulets came, and they were only Laurels. Then Trinkets came, and they are only Guild Missions and Laurels.
Ascended gear has always been gated. This would be no different.
After the initial Fractals only release, which Anet admitted was a mistake, they gave people ways to get ascended gear that pretty much EVERYONE could get. Yes, you can only get Amulets from dailies, but getting 30 dailies is not the same thing is raiding.
You’re comparing time gating with skill gating. No one can raid solo and I don’t think Anet will abandon their solo player base, which is larger than most people think.
Except you still can’t get Ascended gear solo.
The Backpack can only be obtained via doing Fractals for the Vial and Gift. You can’t craft it without doing Fractals. So you can’t get that solo.
Gating is still gating whether it is skill based or time based. And if they do introduce Ascended gear in their new raid feature, I don’t expect them to release the gear any other way. Unless they add yet another currency vendor, which in turn would just upset the players cause we have too many currencies as it is.
Gating is not gating whether it’s skill or time based. That is to say, it makes a huge difference to a casual player base.
A casual player base can deal with time gating far more easily than it can deal with skill gating.
The way Guild Wars 2 is set up now, if you want an ascended amulet, pretty much anyone can get one. You make claim that the only way to get an ascended back piece is the Fractals, but that’s only partially true, since I got an exotic back piece from the Living Story, just by doing a few of the achievements. Anet gave people another way to get an ascended back piece. I’m sure a lot of people are thrilled you can hide back pieces lol.
Anet isn’t going to make something really desirable that gives better stats that is also a skin that’s only available to a small percentage of the population.
Rings are different. You cant’ see them. Earrings you can’t see.
But when they come out with new armor and weapons that have higher stats, if they’re only available from raids, the casual population of this game will scream. And Anet can’t afford that.
Because it’s targeting casuals, not hard core.
You have to remember though, that other backpack they added, was only for a limited time (yay for temp content giving us the upper hand eh?). No one can get it now. So while you are happy that you found an alternate way to get an Ascended backpack, no one else can get it that way now.
So still, you have to do Fractals to get an Ascended backpack. There currently is no other way to obtain one.
