Thanks for adding to the problem. It’s these reasons why Anet will never get rid of stupid things like RNG chests. Because people keep buying them up.
Go ahead and buy more. Don’t expect anything though. Don’t you love when they lock new content behind RNG (or lottery if you want to call it that)?
Excuse you, but you’re wrong. They add this new content to convince people to purchase it to help pay for the FREE CONTENT. The content that was added to the game in the way of new Dynamic Events, story lines, extended locations, free back-slot items, new mini-games, new WvW items, and more. All these things are free and paid for by the Gem Store items; because without that Gem Store we would not have monthly content updates.
As another to look at it, as an adult, understand that you’re still getting far more for a $1 spent in the Gem store on chests than you are getting in putting that $1 in a slot machine for a single roll with the outcome of 0.
P.S. I know I’m going to get slapped with “but why don’t they just sell the weapons directly on the gem store for a set price? I’d buy them that way.”. So, I’ll explain it as this: Part of being in an MMORPG is becoming a unique individual by way of look, style, and play. If everyone was able to obtain these weapons equally, nobody would look unique and they’d have no rarity to them. (i.e. see how everyone in L.A. is right now either wearing a flower or tentacles on their backs).
It’s an opinion. My opinion. It can’t be wrong. We are all entitled to our own.
And they don’t need to add RNG to the gem store to fund this “new free content” that we are getting. There is many other ways to make money than have someone spin the wheel with their cash and end up wasting it on nothing.
Sorry but I have no sympathy for anyone that believes this is good business practice towards customers. Imagine going into a grocery store to pick up some milk, and after you pay for it, they give you a tomato. And then tell you that whenever you buy something from them, you get a chance that you will get what you want. You wouldn’t go there again. You’d go somewhere else to spend your money. Cause you want what you paid for, not a chance at it. Now that grocery store just lost a customer and future money from that customer cause of those tactics. If they would of just sold them the item without any tricks or shams, that customer would go back to that grocery store and buy stuff again.
And sorry, but I don’t care to be a special snowflake when it comes to buying items I want. I could care less if everyone owns it. I am buying something because I want it and I like it. I’m not going to not buy it cause everyone else has one. It has nothing to do with being a “unique” individual. You buy things cause you like them, not because you want everyone to be jealous of what you have and they don’t have.
Pixels are not a social status symbol. You wear what you want cause you like it. Not because of what everyone else will think.

Thing is, they are making 150 gems off one RNG box. If a players buys an RNG box hoping for a weapon skin, and doesn’t get it, they are likely to go two ways. Either try again, or never spend another dime. After a few more tries, they will go only one way. That RNG box will end up leading that player to never spend another dime. Which is a loss for Anet as that player will never buy anything again. Anet lost a paying customer because of an RNG box.
Now if that weapon skin was on the gem store, they would make 500 gems off that player (or more depending on how many weapon skins they needed). And that player would be happy that they got exactly what they wanted. They are not frustrated by RNG and they know their money went to something they wanted. They are likely now to buy from the store again when new weapon skins are introduced, as long as they are not RNG and they can buy them straight up like before. Anet has now made a long time customer that will be willing to buy more stuff when it is introduced.
The RNG boxes are actually making players not want to spend money. It’s to the point of players protesting it. Every time these boxes are introduced, it is nothing but complaints. I’m sorry, but this does not scream great idea for revenue. In the long run, this is going to cause more harm than good. Players will never spend money again because of being scammed by these RNG boxes, and players will lose faith in the company seeing all they care about is greed, and players will leave the game because of this constant RNG greed they are doing.

Seeing as GW1 is still alive and kicking to this day, and they never had these RNG chests in the cash shop, I’m pretty sure RNG chests are not what is keeping GW2 alive.
There was never any RNG chests in GW1. Yet they did just fine with no monthly fee and sold costumes directly to you without any RNG in the cash shop.
And seeing as their quarterly report just recently said that the game is still growing and people are still joining the game, it’s obvious they are still making money off box sales. And from all the complaints on the forums and people saying they will buy these items if Anet sells them straight up instead of sticking them in RNG chests, I’m sure they won’t have any issues there.
The RNG boxes are not the only thing funding GW2. And I’m pretty sure they are not Anet’s main source of income from this game either. They are just not needed when you can sell the items straight up and have happier players who are willing to buy these items.
People are actually quitting this game because of all the RNG in this game. So it would be safe to assume that if the RNG boxes were removed and the items were sold straight up instead, players would be happier to have one less RNG to deal with. Especially when that RNG costs real money. Not only would they be happier, but they would stick around and when players stick around and see items being sold in the store instead of in RNG boxes, they are more likely to spend money.
The RNG boxes are just not needed. They are pure greed is all. There is no getting around that. Making people have to spin the wheel for items they paid for, instead of buying them straight up, is just a cheap money making scam. That’s it.
There’s a difference between sustainability and profitability. GW1 is covering it’s costs (although if this is being supplimented elsewhere is unknown to me), however, I think it’s fair to say GW1 is not sustaining the same player base and development costs as GW2.
If you want to just cut development now, sure, cut revenue to a sustainable level, and call it a day. However, if you want to see continued development and expansion, then profitability is a serious consideration.
Without offering a viable revenue alternative, you’re asking ANet to cut profits. How is this a rational proposition to consider? Simply assuming that catering to one segment of the player base (that isn’t a revenue generating source) will lead to overall revenue growth is a stretch, no?
Simply offering them straight up, without some analysis of what prices would need to be set in order equal the same level of profit is far too assumptive. How many times greater would the price of one item need to be to equal the profits of the current method? 10x, 100x, 1000x? Who’s to say that price point would be too prohibitive to some, and lead to an drastic cut to revenue? Just try some back of the napkin calcs to see how that would works out.
I’m not at all saying the current method is the optimal method from the player’s perspective. But it is a considerable source of revenue for ANet, and in turn does benefit the player base through continued sustainability and development.
They did just fine with Wintersday though.
Instead of tossing weapon skins in an RNG box for 150 gems, they sold weapon skins for 500 gems each straight up. Same thing with the minis. 350 gems each for the minis straight up.
Players were so excited they could finally buy stuff that they wanted instead of having to buy RNG boxes for a chance at what they wanted. They started buying up the new skins right away.
Everytime Anet introduces a new RNG box, people complain and protest it. And it’s not a small group of two or three, it’s a lot of players who do this. Now just think. If they were offering items straight up instead of RNG boxes, imagine how happy all those “haters” would be and would actually spend money. With the RNG boxes, those people are refusing to buy the boxes. That’s a missed opportunity for more revenue. But if those items were introduced as stand alone in the gem store, those people would easily buy them. That is money from players who refused to buy anything before, because of RNG boxes.

…
RNG chests are completely different. It’s a pure greed tactic to make people fork over tons of money for a chance at something that has a rare chance of dropping. Instead of selling something to you straight up so you are guaranteed to get what you want, they make you play the RNG game instead. It’s greed at it’s purest form. They don’t care about the players and what they want. They only care about filling their pockets with our money.
Sorry but this is not the Anet I remember. They used to care about their players, but obviously greed got to them instead.
I posted this in another thread, but will do so again here…
I’d love to see you, or any other likeminded individual, offer an acceptable, reasonable alternative revenue stream for ANet to substitute for removing the BL chests.
I’ve yet to see a single such proposition backed up with any type of financial analysis. Would love to see such a post. (And don’t just come back with "make the items direct purchases. Gotta offer more than that… A little thought, and basic math invalidates that kind of thought. At the very least you’d have to show some kind of pricing methodology for it to be a viable consideration).
Is it that you don’t realize the implications of taking away a viable revue stream from ANet? Or is that you just do care about the consequences?
Seeing as GW1 is still alive and kicking to this day, and they never had these RNG chests in the cash shop, I’m pretty sure RNG chests are not what is keeping GW2 alive.

We have players under the age of 18 if they do buy it is that illegal(online gambling).
It’s not gambling. You are GUARENTEED to get something, just maybe not what you want.
I guess lucky dips should be illegal for children too.
It is gambling. The item you want is not guaranteed when opening the chest, you buy the chests to get a chance on the weapon skins, and nothing else..How in the world are you missing the fact that this is gambling ?
Gambling “. To take a risk in the hope of gaining an advantage or a benefit.” " An act or undertaking of uncertain outcome; a risk: I took a gamble that stock prices would rise."
It’s not gambling, because you don’t have to buy it for the skin. The skin is just one possible item that you can get. It’s like buying a raffle. You get a raffle without any guarantee of getting anything except that you get nothing for buying it and only get something if you win. In this case, you’re buying something which contains something. It’s not TECHNICALLY gambling.
If you put a dollar in a slot machine there’s no guarantee you get anything out of it. If you buy a consortium chest, you get something for your money.
I mean for years, cereal packets have random prices in them. Collect all the toys. Collect all the stickers. We’ve seen McDonalds have a monopoly game where you have to get different pieces to get a chance to win.
Gambling? Nah, not really. But it’s still annoying as hell. lol
.Read the definition of gambling, because it is.And dont even compare gambling to cereal packets, wich you buy to Feed yourself and the toy is a little extra, you dont get a chance to get food, you get food for 100% and a chance on a toy.In this case,i would buy the chest to get the skin since im not interested in getting anything else, now if im buying 100 boxes because i want the weapon skin and i keep getting something else,How is this not gambling….? You can keep telling yourself it isn’t,but it is.
Again..Gambling; An act or undertaking of uncertain outcome; a risk
I buy those chest to get a weapon with uncertain outcome…it’s a risk……By your definition then, running a dungeon for tokens is a risk too, because there’s no guarantee you’ll complete it. It may be gambling in your mind, it’s not gambling by law. And that’s sorta what matters. You can’t regulate something that isn’t gambling.
Baseball cards have random cards in them, you buy them in packs for real money and there’s no guarantee you’ll get a good card. It’s not considered gambling.
Not really a good comparison.
Dungeon running, you are guaranteed dungeon tokens for running the dungeon. There is no random chance that you will be rewarded something else besides a dungeon token. The reward will always be a dungeon token, no matter what.
And baseball cards? Really? You buy a pack of baseball cards and you get…. baseball cards. You paid for exactly what was labeled. If you bought a pack of baseball cards and you got a bullet instead, then it would be comparable. But you don’t. You are guaranteed baseball cards and only baseball cards. There is no basketball cards or football cards randomly put in there. Your chance is 100% that you will get baseball cards.
All you’re going to get is speculation at the moment. Everyone knows about the same as you from that phrase in the patch notes.
Here’s hoping it’s like the Dragon Festival in GW1.

So we now have a beach resort type getaway to do mini games and relax on. And the NPCs that are there have some new flashy swimwear to wear as well.
So where is our fancy swimwear in the gem store for us? I would love a speed-o or some flashy swim trunks.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
How is having everything be a gamble a win win situation?
So it’s all good that they are losing players cause of all the constant gambling they throw into everything? Because making that buck is more important than actually having players. Eventually, it all comes around to bite back. Sure you may think it is good for them to keep adding these money wasters to gem store to sucker all the players into buying them, but in the end, they are going to lose players because of these tactics and then no one will be around to buy anything.
Sorry but that doesn’t seem like a winning situation. It’s a way to make players lose faith in a company and leave for pulling such underhanded tactics.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Was curious about this myself.
Figured I’d buy one to see some of these new dye colors, so I grabbed a Flame Dye Kit.
Got a Frosting Dye from it. Has absolutely nothing to do with Flames.
I’m rather tired of all this lottery they are pulling. “Hey guys! Let’s introduce new dyes! But stick them in a lottery box and then throw in a bunch of old dyes that are not even related to the dye box so they have to gamble for a chance to get the new ones!”. Really? How is this a great idea?
I wouldn’t mind if it was only the six new dyes, and we get a random one of those. At least we would be getting a new dye. Because, you know, that’s the whole point in buying them. But to toss in a bunch of random old dyes and make us spin the wheel at a chance of six new dyes of twenty five dyes (19 of them being old dyes), is just ridiculous.
Why can’t you just sell us stuff straight up? What is the deal with all this lottery nonsense? Why do you keep doing it when people keep complaining about it? I just don’t get it. It makes absolutely no sense. This is one of the main reasons I am on the verge of quitting this game.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
None.
The only thing is the shoulder armor you mentioned already, and then the new gloves that came with the Living Story. They have added some back skins, but those are restricted to Fractals and the gem store. And they keep adding “odd” town clothing, but that’s about it.
So absolutely nothing, nadda, zip, zilch, etc.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
This all started because it was said there was only two Developers actively working on PvP only. This does not mean there is only two Developers overall. It just means there is two who only work on PvP. But that also doesn’t mean there is only two for PvP either. Other Developers still contribute to the PvP maps and other stuff as well, but there is two of them who are dedicated to just PvP, while others are spread out amongst the entire game.
This is how pretty much all games work. There is always a few dedicated to each section of the game specifically, while others work on all aspects of the game.
So ignore the rumors. People seem to have a knack for manipulating the truth.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
So Rangers finally get a Quiver outside of Fractals, and it is tossed in the gem store? Yay…
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
I have to agree on this.
It kind of sucks that the only way to obtain any town clothing is via the gem store (except for that one hat in the Charr lands). It really makes no sense that a Tailor or Leatherworker cannot make clothing. Were we all trained to only craft armor with no idea on how to make actual clothes? If so, then where are the clothes coming from that NPCs wear? They aren’t in the gem store, so someone has to be crafting all these clothes somewhere.
They should add unique town clothing recipes to Tailoring and Leatherworking. This way it isn’t always reliant on the gem store only. Cause as I said above, it seems rather odd that all these NPCs can get their fancy outfits from somewhere, yet the only outfits that we can get are in the gem store. Someone has to be crafting these clothes somewhere, so allow us the opportunity to do so as well.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
We always knew that eventually GW2 would raise the level cap. Thus meaning, more gear tiers. And the rest of the Ascended gear isn’t here yet. So that means you can expect Ascended armor and weapons still to come.
While currently the gap in stats between Exotic and Ascended isn’t too large, it still makes a slight difference. But once the armor and weapons are released, the gap will be much larger and a bigger stat increase (something many people seem to forget once the rest of the Ascended gear and weapons are introduced).
And if you hate to grind, there really isn’t much else to do in this game. The game is a cosmetic optional everything game. Only downside to that is, all this optional cosmetic stuff is a grind. Which is the whole game really. So when people say you don’t have to do it cause it is optional, they are basically saying you don’t have to play the game. Cause everything in this game is optional.
As for Rangers, I’ve had mine on the shelf for awhile now. The only good update we got was some underwater buffs, and even that wasn’t that great since we don’t spend 98% of our time in water. They know they need work, it’s just a matter of getting around to it. So Rangers are kind of low in the totem at the moment.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Had to log in to check this to make sure they didn’t “take away” the ones we already had unlocked. At least we still keep the ones we already had, just we now have to spend the influence to unlock it again. And they didn’t even reimburse us the influence we lost.
A little miffed at this myself. I’m in a small guild, and we can’t even do the guild missions. Now we lose something that we already had unlocked, and we didn’t even get our influence back for it, and now we can’t unlock it again, cause it costs merits to unlock now.
Really bad move in my opinion. Take away something we already had, don’t even refund us for it, and then make it cost something that we can’t get, so we can’t get it again. All this to stop some random “exploit”. I don’t know, to me it feels like Anet just has a deep hatred for small guilds and is doing everything they can to squash us out.

Casual = It’s all about the journey.
Hardcore = It’s all about the destination.
Pretty much nailed it (in my opinion).
Casual doesn’t mean you don’t have a lot of time to play. It just means you like to relax while you play and enjoy the scenery. You’re not in a rush to get the best gear or hit max level, you move at your own pace and play whenever you feel like it. You’re a relaxed player and just enjoy the journey.
But that also doesn’t mean they don’t like the hardcore content. They will get to it in time, but at their own pace. And if an opportunity arises to join in on some, they won’t turn it down. But it’s not something they rush to do at a moment’s notice.
They take their time, relax, and just enjoy the moment.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Might as well save them. Unless of course you have more than a stack and it is taking up bank space, then trash them. But if you have 250 or less, just toss them in the collectable tab and let them collect dust.
Cause who knows? Later down the road they might add Obsidian armor like in GW1, and to craft it you are going to need those shards.
Same with any account bound material. If you have 250 or less, just leave them in the collectable tab. They aren’t taking up any space for other items, so might as well hold onto them for the off chance that you might use them for something later on.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Simple answer? No.
Long answer? There isn’t one. Only thing you can remove/add tracking on is achievements.

To unlock everything? Like even the titles?
If you just want the rewards (30/50), then it all depends on if you get help or not. You can get it easily if people load you up with everything you need. Would only take a few days. But if you are going to do it all yourself, expect a few months to do most of the stuff and that’s with a little help on the side.
If you are going for everything, including titles (50/50), then it will take much longer. Grinding out titles is tedious and will take a lot of time. Expect at least 6-8 months to even maybe a year depending on your play time.
But if you just want rewards, find some people willing to help. Most old players are usually willing to give you tons of free stuff to get you going. Then it will only take about a month or a little less to get the rest you will need on your own.

Now try going to look and see what all the things you CAN’T do in WoW as a FtP.
http://wow.joystiq.com/2012/11/08/what-wow-free-to-play-players-can-and-cannot-do/In GW2 we can do EVERYTHING, we can level to max lvl and are not hindered, so they try to make a little money off people wanting 10 alts!! God forbid a company that actually needs to make a profit to stay in business HOW DARE THEY!!!
But GW2 isn’t supposed to be compared to WoW’s Starter Edition. It is supposed to be compared to WoW as a whole.
Anet themselves stated that GW2 will give you all the benefits and features of a P2P AAA MMO, without the monthly fee. So when you compare GW2 to WoW, you compare it to what WoW offers as a P2P game, not a F2P game. And WoW and other P2P games, don’t put limits on you that push you to their cash shop. GW2 does.
I have no problem with Anet wanting to make money. Heck, there is tons of suggestions on these forums that Anet can use to make money. But putting limits on you to push you to the gem store or else you can’t experience certain content is not the way to go.
And the fact that you don’t have to spend a penny to buy anything in the cash shop doesnt mean a thing?
You are not locked out of any content if you choose not to spend real life cash.
I didn’t say real life cash. I said gem store.
And yes, you are locked out of content if you don’t get those extra character slots. Cause that is three professions that you can’t play, meaning you don’t get that content. The only way to “unlock” that content is to spend real money or spend your time ingame farming gold to buy the gems for them. And still, someone still had to pay real money for those gems, so it’s not like it is free.
Either way, money has to be spent to “unlock” that content that you are missing. Whether it is from your pocket or someone else’s pocket. Gold to Gem isn’t free. Someone is still paying to get you those character slots. Meaning real money is still involved in that content that you need to unlock.

Every single one of those games you listed started as pay to play and charged money for months. Sure they’re free to play now, but they also took $15 a month (the price of 1.5 character slots) every single month.
If you played SWToR since launch and 7 motnhs in wanted another character slot, you’d haev paid by that time $90 just to play the game. Right now, you can in fact use SWToR as a free to play game…as long as you don’t want to do anything. In fact, many subscription games even have a cash shop in addition to a monthly fee.
Guild Wars 2 gives you five slots, one for each race. Not everyone needs to play every profession. In addition, of the games you listed, it’s the only one that allows you to farm gold in game to get it, instead of using real world cash.
I think you might want to look up backwards in the dictionary, I’m not sure you know what it means.
I’m sorry, but did you pay monthly for character slots? No, you didn’t. I don’t have a WoW sub anymore and I still have all 11 of my character slots (that’s not counting the extra 50 or so you can make on other realms as well). They aren’t gone because I am no longer paying monthly. Heck you can play WoW for free now and still get 11 character slots. Just like all those other games. You didn’t pay monthly for character slots.
And GW2 is in the ranking of these top P2P MMOs. When these top MMOs are giving you all slots to make all professions/classes and then some, then GW2 is lacking in that department. It doesn’t matter if you are paying monthly or not.
What was it they advertised? Oh that’s right. GW2 offers you all the benefits and features of a P2P AAA MMO, without the monthly fee. So why am I limited on character slots when a P2P AAA MMO has them? So much for all the benefits and features of a P2P AAA MMO right? Instead they limit us to 5 and make us use the cash shop if we want to experience the rest of the content. Because that is what AAA MMOs do right? Oh that’s right. They don’t.
So yes, they did go backwards on that feature. While other AAA MMOs are giving us all character slots for all professions/classes, GW2 went in reverse on that feature and limited our character slots to only 5 out of 8 professions.

Seriously, stop spamming this everywhere. You only need one topic on this subject. All spamming is going to do is get all of your posts deleted and get you infracted.
And with your response above, I wouldn’t want to key farm with you with that attitude. Have fun with yet another infraction for that as well.
If you want players to help you key farm, make one topic and be respectful and polite. No one wants to spend hours farming with someone with that kind of attitude.

Gems are cheap to buy with cash, and the character slots don’t expire in 30 days. That’s my argument.
Wait…what expires after 30 days?
I believe he is talking about how F2P games have items in the cash shops that have time limits on them. They sell you something like a fancy outfit for 20 bucks, but put a time limit on how long you can use it (for instance, 30 days). Then you have to buy it again or you lose it permanently.
Luckily, there is nothing in GW2 like that, and hopefully, there never will be.

If I’ve learned anything from my time playing MMOs, it is always this.
Never base the lore off the players. Always look at the game itself as a whole, but exclude the players themselves.
Cause if you start looking at players, the lore goes out the window instantly. Cause there is no where in the lore that states xX_Fluffy Biscuit_Xx defeated Jormag, decked out in hot pink and a Quaggan backpack while weilding a shortbow that fired off rainbow unicorn ponies.
Thus, never look at players as a sign of lore.

Well, while I do agree that you can get character slots from the gem store to get those last professions, I do still think it is rather bad that we have to pay for them.
Other games in the genre give you more than enough character slots to make all their classes. Games like WoW, Aion, Rift, Tera, SW:ToR, etc heck even pretty much most F2P games give you enough character slots to make all your classes, without having to make you spend extra money to unlock them.
GW2 for some reason, being a new game, went kind of backwards on that. They promise innovation and new ideas, yet they downgraded completely normal features like this. Limiting your character slots to only 5, when there is 8 professions. Meaning you can only make 5 of the professions unless you spend more money or farm gold ingame to get the other 3. While all these other games give you more than enough character slots to make all their professions/class and don’t limit you by pushing you to the cash shop to experience the rest of the content.
So yeah, while you can still buy them or farm gold to buy them, it is still rather sad that they are not already available to you.

Will GW2 ever get a monk-style class? Unarmed combat?
I’d love to play a Shaolin monk styled fighter……this isnt WoW. maybe they will get something similar, like a martial arts class, with cool looking hand/arm weapons, but yea not a monk, this game has pride as far as i can tell.
You do realize the Monk class has been around long before WoW right? Stop comparing things to WoW just cause WoW has it. WoW wasn’t the first you know.
On topic, I wouldn’t mind a Monk class. Especially with the style of combat mechanics GW2 utilizes, it would fit in nicely. I would like to see something like the DDO Monk though. I think they did a nice job with the Monk.
this is true, but you do understand that the monk class just came out and BOOM here you have it, an idea referencing something that WoW has. it made me laugh. when you like a game over another, but you see that other game has a cool new feature you want the game you like to have it too. lol thats where my comment originated from.
But you make the assumption that just cause WoW has it, the OP must be referring to WoW. And it didn’t really just come out. We knew WoW would have a Monk class back in mid 2011 (when it was announced).
The Monk has been around since old school table top gaming and even before that. It has been featured in Diablo and DDO along with several other games, before it even was mentioned in WoW. People have suggested a Monk class for GW2 for awhile now, even before the game was released and before even Cataclysm was around.
Just because some other game recently made a Monk class, doesn’t mean any suggestion about Monks derives from WoW now. That’s like saying because we want Cantha back, that means we want Pandaria because WoW did it recently with the asian theme.
All I’m saying basically is, don’t assume you know what someone is talking about based off your own personal thoughts. Because honestly, the WoW style Monk kind of sucks lol.

Why should they warn you? When you bought this game you agreed to their rules. Yet you went against that and broke them any ways. You broke the rules knowingly, thus you don’t deserve a warning. You get punished directly for breaking the rules you agreed to when you first started playing the game.
Swearing’s a pretty minor offense, and you shouldn’t get temp banned on the first violation. Just a warning. If it were something more serious, like botting or exploiting, sure, ban away without a warning and let the appeals process sort them out.
exactly, I don’t swear heavily, only occasionally, like most people, and yet, no warning, and they temp ban me. Most people just get away with a warning.
Usually if you are banned for inappropriate language, it is because you directed it at someone in an offensive/provoking manner. Like using it as an insult or in an argument. Then you’ll get banned for it. They barely ban people for saying things like “That is <censored>ing awesome!” or “You are one awesome mother<censored>.”.
It is only when you use it in an offensive/insulting way that they take action.
I almost never swear at someone, never in this game at least, yet countless times, happened to me.
So wait, you have been banned “countless” times for inappropriate language, yet you keep doing it? Did you not learn anything from the previous times?
It is logical to assume, that if you are banned for inappropriate language, you should probably watch your language. And if you are banned “countless” times for inappropriate language, you should definitely watch your language.
Yet you went and did it again any ways regardless? Now I know why they didn’t give you a warning. Sorry, no offense, but you deserve this ban if you have been banned “countless” times already for the same thing.
Learn from your mistake so you don’t keep repeating them.
No, countless times someone swearing directly at me. Didn’t mean to give you the wrong idea.
My mistake then, apologizes.
The thing is, action is only taken if you take action. If someone is swearing at you, nothing will happen to them unless you take action. Obviously someone took action against you swearing, either at them or in general, and Anet felt it necessary to take action.
In the end though, you still broke the rules that you agreed to. Just serve your time and remember next time to keep it “family-friendly” when in game.

Doesn’t matter if it was a minor offense or not. Trust me, I get what you are saying.
It is simple and clear. You knowingly broke the rules that you agreed to not break, and now you are being punished for it. That’s just how it works.
I’m not against you or anything, just giving you the truth is all.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
The filter is there for people to avoid seeing that kind of language. Simple as that.
Just cause there is a filter though, doesn’t give you the right to use inappropriate language whenever you want. It is still against the rules to use that kind of language, the filter is just there so players don’t have to see it.
Regardless of a filter or not, don’t break the rules and you can avoid this sort of thing.
but no warning?

Yeah sadly I kind of have to agree with the others here. It seems the Suggestion section goes pretty much ignored.
The only time Anet implements suggestions made by the community, is when people complain about it enough in General Discussion. I’ve never seen anything from the Suggestions section implemented. Take for example, the trading post preview option. Was complained about here in General and the BLTC section, not in suggestions. Culling? Complained about here in General. No treadmill? Complained about here in General. Lack of town clothes/armor skins? Complained about in General and the BLTC. WvWvW/SPvP changes? Complained about in the PvP section.
It seems the only time they implement our suggestions, is when it is a complaint in any other forum but Suggestions. There is a bunch of really good suggestions in there, but they will basically be ignored cause it is not a complaint and it’s in the Suggestion section. So it basically just feels like a place for us to dream and imagine, for fun.

vermillion , there are like what 20 legendaries? it’s not that hard to make these ‘legendary’ weapons have no clipping issues on 5 races >_> this is just pure slacking and garbage
You obviously have no idea the effort that goes into this.
It isn’t a simple, prevent clipping issues on five races. You’re talking about reanimating all the races and professions. And then having to redesign all the armor in the game to prevent it from clipping, adjust each set for each weight and height, relocate skeleton placements to prevent backpack clipping, etc etc etc.
You’re talking about undoing years of work just for some minor clipping. So no, it is not slacking and garbage as you so put it. It is a matter of resources and time to do it.

Yeah I used to have an amazing Ritual Lord Healer/Support Ritualist. Was by far one of my most favorite to play, besides my Keystone Mesmer of course. Even playing them as a Splinter Barrage Ritualist was awesome just to watch how they shoot a bow.
Would love to see the Ritualist again in GW2 and how they do it with the new playstyle.

The only freeze available to players I can think of off the top of my head is the elementalist Ice Bow’s 5th skill.
There is also a couple Hearts that give you a weapon to use that freezes. For instance:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Creator_Pixtor
Gives you a freeze ray type gun. You shoot the enemy three times and it freezes them. Then you shatter them with a sonic burst.
You can use it anywhere on the map as well. It’s not restricted to just that Heart.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Freeze means you are stuck in place without being able to take any action until you thaw out. Chilled though, just means you are slowed from being so cold to the point of almost frozen, but still able to take action. Just slower.

I actually am looking forward to an underwater map. I love the underwater areas and find them to be a lot of fun.
The only issue that I hope they fix before releasing an underwater map, is the targeting system and mob resets. Once those are fixed, then I will be happy to swim my little Quaggan heart out in an underwater map.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Agreed.
As much as I have my own issues with GW2, it is still a great game underneath all the main problems. It is very hard to play another MMO after playing GW2. Just going to come out and say it, but I assume you are talking about WoW. I did the same thing as well. Went back to check on how the game was doing and I just couldn’t play it. Everything feels way outdated and so dull compared to GW2.
And it’s like that with all the recent MMOs I’ve been trying out. Got invited to a few betas for others, and they just don’t compare. The only other MMO I have been able to play is Defiance, and that’s just cause I’m excited for the TV show (Syfy addict).
But I do agree. It is hard to play any other MMO now after playing GW2.

The initial release of this system will be for WvW only. There are additional complications we need to solve with PvE due to the number and variety of creatures on screen that WvW doesn’t need to account for. Later this year, we’ll be expanding as much of the changes to the PvE open world as we can as well.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Sadly it seems that the clothing they want to release, doesn’t fall in line with the game’s theme. Basically, it’s immersion breaking. Sorry but things like fluffy animal backpacks and hoodies tear away from the setting of the game entirely. I don’t remember walking around medieval times and seeing someone wearing a Nike hoodie or even a stuffed animal backpack.
Now don’t take that as a complaint though. While they are immersion breaking and completely against the theme of the game, I still have to buy them. My credit card literally jumps out of my wallet and holds a pellet gun to my head, forcing me to buy these outfits. So I really have no choice.
But I do understand where others are coming from, and while I don’t mind the immersion breaking outfits, I do hope that we get some actual outfits eventually that fit the theme of Tyria.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
It happens with all newly released games.
They are over-hyped at the beginning, getting tons of amazing reviews that top the charts, making everyone buy into all the great features and innovation it is bringing. Then a few months down the road, people start talking about how the game really is. You get your mixed responses, people saying to give it another shot still, people bashing on everything negative about it without seeing any of the positive, etc etc.
About half a year later, most sites give bad reviews cause of a bad experience with one thing, while others are still enjoying the game for what else it has. Then in about a year or two, everything settles, patches are released to improve the game, community has settled in and started enjoying things again, and sites are starting to give a second chance at it after all the new updates.
This pretty much explains how all MMOs start out. MMOs are a rough path to take and usually cause the most pain/joy. The fans are very dedicated to this genre, and it definitely shows. Whether negative or positive, they express that deeply. But it takes time for the storm to calm. Just gotta have patience and wait for the dust to settle.
Edit: Sorry forgot to answer the question (my bad).
As for still believing, I don’t know. I still believe that one day this game will be big and become something amazing. I still believe that this game will change the way we play MMORPGs in the future. They have good ideas and some nice changes to the genre that I am happy to see.
But things have been done that seem so out of the element, that I am unsure whether I believe this game will still be what it once was. The game now is vastly different from the game that was advertised and sold to us when we got it. While it might be good for others, it is bad for those of us who wanted what was advertised and got something completely different instead.
So as for believing, probably not. Skeptical, yes. But I still have a bit of hope that things will turn around and take this game back to its former glory.

Regarding mounts, they have come out and said that already. Just people keep pushing the suggestion any ways, regardless of what Anet has said. And it happens with all things as well. Regardless of what Anet has said on certain suggestions, players continue to bring it up in hopes that they will change their minds.
There is no definite page that has all the answers from Anet on certain subjects. Sadly, it is all lost in different obscure posts throughout the forums. So newer players to the forums don’t know what Anet has said, while those of us who frequent the forums constantly, already know the answers. So in turn, you see tons of threads on the same thing, waiting for Anet to answer them, while the “old-timers” already know the answers from previous threads Anet has already responded to. And we all know how well the players are at using the search function….
Another thing you have to take into consideration, while some suggestions might seem like good ideas to the players, they might be bad ideas to Anet. Anet has a vision for Guild Wars 2. While that vision has changed here and there, it is still basically stuck to the path they wanted for it. Some of these suggestions players bring up would go against their vision, and while they seem good to players, they are not the direction Anet wishes to go in.
You have to remember that just cause we see certain ideas as good and needed for the game, doesn’t mean that Anet agrees with us. They have their vision on what this game needs and should be. Mounts, as per the example, while they seem like interesting things and pretty much every other MMO uses them, they go against the vision that Anet has for this game. Thus they won’t do it, no matter how much the community thinks it is a great idea.
Hope all that made some sort of sense.

It’s like a name brand versus generic brand.
The others are generic, thus cheaper and the main one is a name brand, thus more expensive.
I guess I could wait til I get home to look, but forget it. Describe, please!

Yeah sadly I’m in the same boat now. I won’t be spending any more money until we get some sort of storage for them.
Do something like the PvP lockers. Except add it to the Collectables tab in the bank. Have a section where we can put all our town clothing. Or even make a new tab in the bank for town clothing that we can store them in.
I’ve bought every outfit that they have released, but now I won’t be buying these till we get some sort of storage system in place first.
