Play the first game, then compare it to GW2, play “Insert generic MMO here” and compare it to GW2.
Which share more similarities?
Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1 and throw it out of the window. My point is – theres absolutely nothing GW2 has common with GW1 except for lore.
I started playing GW1 just a few months after release of Prophecies, and still play it.
Similarities to GW1:
-Skill over gear
-No mandatory grind
-Lore
-Cooperation over CompetitionSimilarities to WoW:
-Higher levelsFunnily enough I find more similarities to GW1 than WoW.
One major difference between Guild Wars 2 and WoW is a monthly fee. Another is that WoW had a taunt mechanic which completely changes the game. Another is that WoW has mounts (and they’re very significant to the game), Guild Wars 2 does not.
Well if you want to be technical about it, GW2 does have mounts.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Riding_Broom
Just cause it doesn’t give you a speed boost, doesn’t mean it’s not a mount. You still mount it and ride it, and it is specifically called a Riding Broom. Thus a mount.
It doesn’t have mounts or use them in the sense that WoW does though. Even if it did have mounts, in WoW mounts are a “thing”. They’re central to the game. Everywhere you look, there are mounts. There are mounts in their cash shop. You can buy mounts in game.
When I played Rift, people played to get mounts. There were speed differences.
To say Guild Wars 2 is like WoW because they have a broom in their cash shop is pretty misleading.
It doesn’t matter how they were used or how detrimental they are to the game, they are there. I was just meaning that you can’t really say that GW2 doesn’t have mounts, when they clearly do. They might not be exactly how they are in WoW or Rift or any other game that has them, but they are present and that is what matters.
And I didn’t mean that GW2 is like WoW cause it has mounts. I was just covering that bit of “misinformation” for those that didn’t know. GW2 has mounts yes, but that doesn’t mean it is like WoW because of it.

Running around with a shrunken version of an NPC is immersion breaking.
To YOU.
Arena.net has defined certain limits that they don’t want crossed. A shrunken version of an NPC is within those limits. A player fighting an epic battle in boxing gloves is not.
I love how that was the only thing you picked out of everything I said.
I edited my post above to show you a screenshot of my Norn in the Chef Outfit. And you think that is immersion breaking? Please, tell me how that breaks immersion. It looks like light armor.
And I guess all the other things I stated above don’t break immersion “To YOU” either right?
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
1) It would destroy the immersion
Yes cause running around with a Quaggan backpack or an 8-bit video game backpack, while swinging an 8-bit greatsword or shooting rainbow unicorns out of a bow with an Anet logo on them or beating people with a giant candy cane, while having a miniature Logan Thackery run along side you, doesn’t ruin immersion right? It’s obvious Anet doesn’t care about immersion or the game being lore-friendly. They do whatever will make them money, regardless if it fits into the game or not.
None of the things you mentioned ruin the immersion.
A player fighting in a chef costume would.
I don’t even think you know what immersion is now.
Having the brand name of a company in the real world, inside your video game, is instant immersion ruining. That’s like saying if there was billboards of Pepsi everywhere, it wouldn’t ruin immersion. Running around with a shrunken version of an NPC is immersion breaking. Wearing a GW2 baseball Hat and T-Shirt in game is immersion breaking.
The Chef costume actually looks like normal wear and fits in the game world, and even looks like it could be light armor (I have this outfit on my Norn, and it looks like robes). It is in no way immersion breaking for someone to wear that into combat.
Edit: Added screenshot of the Chef Costume. Now tell me this does not look like Light Armor and would break immersion if you saw this in combat….

Ugh, raiding. Next thing we know, they’ll add traditional questing and the holy trinity.
So many things they said they wouldn’t do in the beginning, and here we are with most of those things being done now. It seems Anet is taking GW2 further and further away from what it was supposed to be, and turning it into your traditional cookie cutter MMO now.
Two points.
Anet never said they’re never add raiding. You can’t find the quote that says it, because they haven’t.
More to the point, there was “raiding” in Guild Wars 1 too, but it was NOTHING like raiding on other games…it wasn’t even called raiding.
But it was an area of elite content for 12 man teams (when the normal max party size was 8 man).
I think you should keep an open mind about raiding in Guild Wars 2…because I don’t think this will be anything like the raiding you’re thinking of.
Actually, Anet said they didn’t want party sizes larger than 5. They stated that 5 was a balanced number for groups and they wanted to keep everything doable for groups of 5. Can’t get you the link, cause it was in the blog, which is gone (unless someone else knows of a backup somewhere).
And I understand they had large group content in GW1. But seeing as how GW2 is nothing like GW1, I expect that these raids are not going to be like GW1 as well.

Now I feel like a total noob after reading this topic. How can you tell the class of a player by just looking at the armor? I can understand that you can put them into heavy, medium or light armor, but how can you tell the diffrence from a staff using mesmer and elementalist, by just looking at clothes?
You can’t, not until they start shooting at you or you highlight them and look at their health bar. It’s just an excuse PvPers use to make it seem like a big deal, when in actuality, it’s not. Visual appearance means nothing in GW2 when multiple people share the same armor type. They are against it cause they just don’t want to see it. Period. It has nothing to do with visual distinction of the profession, it’s just cause they don’t want it. That’s all.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Oh goodness, where to start.
Killeen first off. Even though she is not in GW2 (well…. kind of, but don’t want any spoilers), she was one of my favorites. Her along with Dougal Keane (who is in GW2). I’m also a fan of Logan and Rytlock. Sieran definitely along with Tybalt. Apatia is another favorite as well as Tonn.
There is still so many, but those are just a few of my favorites.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
it is random.
i got 1 black lion key from a WvW map completion recently.however, if you want non gem store, black lion keys, it is faster if you farm with with a free character slot.
human commoner warrior.
you can get one black lion key within 50 minutes or faster depending on your skill and luck. could be faster if you get a few people doing it together. It’s not that I’m wanting Black Lion Keys, it’s that I’m not wanting Transmutation Stones. I’m approaching my second full stack of the things, and since all my characters have long been level 80 they’re completely worthless to me. I’ve been hanging on to them in the hopes that Anet will add a Transmutation Stone -> Transmutation Crystal MF recipe, but I’m not holding my breath for that one.
That is a brilliant idea. The Mystic Forge thing. Would give us something to do with all our low level transmutation stones.
I don’t see why we need two different transmutation stones in the first place though. It just feels pointless to me. Why can’t we just have one for all levels? It makes more sense then this whole 1-79 stone, and a level 80 stone. It just seems ridiculous to have two when one would be more convenient and better.
But it seems like they are a rare drop now than they were before (the keys, not stones). They want people to use the cash shop, so they lower the drop rates on these things so people will spend more money.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
While it sounds like a neat idea, I have to agree with Dingle on this one.
GW2 is advertised as a “play the game, not the UI” type thing. Meaning, you should be watching what is going on in the actual game instead of watching your UI.
If you started changing spell/ability effects, it would end up giving an advantage (in a way) in PvP. Seeing as spells/abilities are identified (or meant to be identified) by the effect, it would cause a lot of confusion in PvP and mess up, like Dingle said, spectator mode.
So having people with different spell/ability effects for the same abilities/spells, would go against the whole “play the game, not the UI” philosophy.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Haven’t had any crash issues, just this weird “bloom” effect that is always present.
I haven’t been able to play for longer than an hour cause this is just hurting my eyes (which aren’t in the best shape to begin with).
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
So I posted this in General, but it seems more like a bug than anything else, so moved it here (if a mod could be nice and delete my post in general, would appreciate it).
So it seems there is a glitch with the Shader in the Graphic settings. I think it happened after the Dragon Bash update, or after the Sky Pirates. Never noticed it before, until after one of these patches.
Basically, it is way too bright. To the point of glowing. Even the text is glowing. Some screenshots below to show what I am talking about. I am pretty sure this is not normal.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
So…. let me get this straight. PvP happened in a PvP zone right?
As much as I hate JP’s in general and the fact that an achievement is tied to this (guessing it’s part of the meta or something from the posts here), it’s a PvP area meant for PvP.
So don’t complain about PvP happening where it should be happening.
Did you even read the post immediately above yours? It eloquently and convincingly makes the case against this bullkitten camp-griefing practice being employed by so many complete kittens.
And yes, if you are participating in this as a griefer, you are a full-fledged kitten as far as I’m concerned. Deriving pleasure from causing other people misery makes you an epic failure as a human being.
Whether it is 100 vs 1, or 10 vs 10, it is a place for PvP. There is no such thing as griefing when it comes to killing your opponent.
There is no honor, no friends, no buddy system. They aren’t just going to go, “Oh there is only one of you while there is 10 of us? Sure you can pass by”. No. It’s PvP. Player versus Player. Survival of the fittest.
If you’re on a battlefield, and you have your entire army protecting your king, and one enemy walks up to the line, are you going to let them pass because you overwhelm him and it would be unfair to kill him? No. You will kill him regardless cause he is the enemy.
That’s how PvP works. I don’t care if there is only 1 of me and 100 of you. If you guys tear me apart, so be it. I signed up for PvP by entering a place for PvP. I expect to be killed by overwhelming odds or by one other player.
It’s PvP.

I’ve been waiting for awhile as well. Really enjoyed the other two books.
There are books! Didn’t know this lol, Will have to check them out.
There is three of them (soon). They bridge the gap between GW1 and GW2.

And now Sea of Sorrow coming soon.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
New Guild Wars Novel: Sea of Sorrows – Available June 25
We’re proud to announce Sea of Sorrows, the third original Guild Wars novel by Ree Soesbee! Sea of Sorrows follows the thrilling adventures of young Cobiah Marriner, founder of the reborn city of Lion’s Arch.
Anyone else excited to see this finally getting released? Been waiting so long for the 3rd book.
And how awesome is it that it will tie into the game as well?
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
As much as I complain about this RNG business and how this event felt like a pure grind, the story is what made this event a win for me.
I hoped that the story would make me enjoy this event with everything else that I disliked about it, and it didn’t disappoint. Especially that cut scene. That was very well done.
So in the end, I was happy with the storyline presented.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
@ Marcus / Vayne / Grounder
What I’m saying is that the endgame IS dailies not that I feel forced to do them. The best gear in the game is obtainable ONLY through dailies.
Theres just no rewarding challenging content in this game.
There is a single JUST ONE boss in the game that requires having a team with a IQ higher than 20 to kill (lupi) other than that you can clear all PvE content with your eyes closed. WvWvW is a mockery of what real RvR should be (DAoC). SPvP can be fun, but there is no reward system or tournament / season brackets etc… theres no incentive to put together a great 5 man of friends and see how far you can go. Most every time I played in or started a SPvP premade it was us wiping the floor with disorganized pugs (not exactly fun esp if you on the other end which I have been plenty).
Using again a game as an example that many of us myself included loathe, WoW has heroic raid content (weres our hardcore dungeon difficulties with rewards pertaining too?) Arena Seasons (we have playing the same map all week for chests containing gear skins that we already have in 100x duplicate by 2 days of playing).
Maybe this game isn’t for me, but its the best MMO out there right now so I’ll stay here and kitten and moan until something better does come out, maybe something will come of it…most likely not.
The end game isn’t the dailies. The end game is different for each person.
For some people, the end game is getting a legendary. That’s their focus. For some it’s getting the dungeon master title (which isnt’ all that easy for everyone, trust me on that. I only just finished mine). For some it’s getting a fractal skin, which is grinding the fractals. For some it’s WvW (and you can’t say it’s not). For some it’s even SPvP. We’ve just seen the establishment of the first Guild Wars 2 PvP league. That’ll be end game for some people.
Your end game may be dailies. To me, I have tons of stuff I’m still working on.
And in fact, I don’t even HAVE an end game and many other people who like this game don’t. It’s like this total fallacy that any game has to have “end game”. This is what people look for and talk about. Skyrim still has a whole bunch of players, but it has no end game, no PvP, no raids.
This game is like that. It’s a bunch of stuff to do. Some people decide what to do and to it. It’s a playground.
You’re looking for the game to lead you around by the nose and give you a goal. Some of us don’t like that at all.
So dailies are not endgame, yet they are endgame? You are kind of contradicting yourself there. Endgame is different for everyone. Again, not everyone has the same play style. You have to accept the fact that we all play the game differently.
And really? You’re comparing an MMO to Skyrim? A single player game that is completely the opposite of an MMO? No comparison sorry. Two completely different games.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
If you don’t have the luxury of time – then prioritize.
Why can’t you play much? If if you have something to do that is important (ie: study, work, bond with family..) then deal with it.
ANet should not modify the game to cater everyone’s playstyle. The game is casual enough to make each other competitive without having the top tier gear.
Now if you really want the BiS gear, make time. If you can’t because of whatever priorities, deal with it. It’s how the world works.
People now sounds like entitled “I want this but it doesn’t fit my style, modify it to fit my style”. I mean, dude, there are certain sacrifices that one should make in order to get what someone wants.
I would use me as an example: I want a legendary. Not just those easy to get, but I specifically want the Twilight or Flameseeker. For me, that’s my endgame. I don’t have time, I have work. I have little time to play weekdays. Do I whine about how hard it is getting them? No. I deal with it. I have other important things to do. I play when I can, thus get what is equal to the time I played.
I have the luxury of time, I was just using it as an example. But I will try to answer as best as I can.
The thing with your “deal with it” analogy, is that nothing would ever change. Should those that want harder content, just deal with it cause the game doesn’t cater to their play style? Should those that dislike all the RNG just deal with it, cause the game doesn’t favor their opinion? If everyone just “dealt with it”, then nothing will ever get changed and no one would be happy. Everyone’s feedback is just as important as the next person. The game should always offer an alternative for different play styles.
But dailies go against that idea. Locking gear behind a time-gated content doesn’t cater to different styles. There are no alternatives, it is the only way to obtain the gear. There is no other way. While other options in this game have alternatives, dailies do not. They are a requirement for those that want the BiS gear.
We shouldn’t have to change our daily lives just to cater to a video game. There should be alternatives for players to do the things they want to do, instead of being gated behind a single thing in order for them to progress.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
We don’t all have the luxury of time, nor do we all have the same play style.
While I completely agree with this, I just want to comment on
Or those in WvW or SPvP.
SPvP has it’s own daily category. So just by playing SPvP you will get your daily. By playing just WvW you can get 3/5. You can also gather in W3, which would be 4/5. Then that last one is visiting a laurel, salvaging some stuff, crafting or something similar and all of that fifth daily can be done in W3.
Very true, and forgot all about that. Thanks for clearing that up.
I forgot that SPvP had it’s own daily as well that rewarded Laurels too.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
I don’t understand how peoiple have to “go for dailies”. You mean you don’t gather as you’re running by stuff anyway? You mean you don’t end up killing 50 things while just running around? You mean to tell me crafting something or visiting a laurel vendor taks you so far out of your game.
I call BS. These things mostly happen naturally. Maybe at the end of my play session I have to finish one in a couple of minutes, but usually I finish the daily without even thinking about it.
And no I don’t think you’re playing wrong. I think you’re exhausted all the content. It’s like any game when you’ve exhausted the content. You get bored. How many hours have you played OP?
Not everyone plays the same as you though.
Why assume everyone is running around areas randomly, doing dailies along the way? Everyone’s play style is different. Not everyone is constantly running around zones randomly to do their dailies as they come about. And not everyone can play for hours straight, just picking up their dailies as they go.
Some people are only running dungeons. They have to go out of their way to do dailies. Or those in WvW or SPvP. They have to do the same thing. Or how about those that only have a couple hours to play a day? They have to go out of their way to get it done before they log off.
For those that want the best gear in the game, they have to do the dailies every day to get it. And most the time for those people, they have to go out of their way to do it. So in order for them to progress, they have to do dailies. Which ends up being their “endgame” cause it’s the only way to get the gear.
So while you spend all your time roaming around the world randomly, taking care of your dailies at a leisurely pace, others are having to go out of their way to get them done so they can progress. We don’t all have the luxury of time, nor do we all have the same play style.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
I kind of feel that way at the moment as well. But then again, the rest of the event hasn’t even started yet. This is just the intro.
But for me, it has to be the skins. They just feel poorly made. In the preview, they look nice and neat. But when you equip them, they are pixelated and jagged. Same with the helmet skin from the fireworks. It is so blocky and pixelated. They all just look poorly made and rushed.
Then we have the grindy achievements. 250 for that, 300 for this, 150 for that, 100 for this, etc. And everything only gives you one taffy, and not to mention the 100k taffy for wings. I mean no real story to any of it (so far), just grind, grind, and grind again. I’m not even going to get started on these RNG chests…..
Don’t forget the bugs that got by “testing” (if there was any testing). They never test a patch. They just release it, and hope for the best. Then we get patch after patch to fix the previous patch. It’s always like this every patch.
All in all, everything feels rushed and poorly done. The quality of the items, the RNG, the grind, the bugs, etc. Hopefully this story is decent enough to save this event.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
.
When Mr. Johanson said that, he was referring to combat grind. You know the whole, stand there and swing your sword till the enemy dies thing. He was not referring to the grind it takes to get things.
And yet that is EXACTLY what the combat is…so can we assume that Mr Johanson was talking from some kind of orifice he keeps undeneath his hat?
Not sure how you do combat, but I don’t stand there auto attacking. I use movement and dodge. Along with all my skills when needed for certain situations.
Well, sorry but I have news for you….ALL MMO’s have different skills, but when it all comes down to it there isnt a single enemy in this entire game that I can’t take down by pressing “1” repeatedly and staying out of red circles.
Well, in other MMO’s, as a tank, I stand there in front of a boss going blow for blow, doing nothing else. As a healer, I sit there in the back doing nothing but clicking my heal spell on the tank over and over. As a DPS, I sit behind the boss stabbing away till it is dead.
Can’t do that in GW2. I can’t sit in front of a boss, soaking up all the damage while a healer sits back and keeps me alive. I have to move and dodge. Same thing with healing. Everyone has to participate in keeping the group alive by placing AoE heals and buffs appropriately. As a DPS, I can’t just stand behind the boss auto attacking. The boss will turn to me since there is no tank to hold aggro, and I’ll need to move and dodge when needed.
So again, not sure how you play combat, but to me, it is nothing like other MMOs.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Well first off, you’re misquoting. Those references aren’t related to what you are talking about.
Same for Mr. O’Brien. In that statement, he is referring to a gear treadmill. You don’t have to grind for higher stats over and over like other MMOs. There is no new tier every few months to make yours obsolete, making you have to grind out a new set just to be able to do new content.
Just taking this part since i thought it was sort of misleading. There is no new content that would validate having a new set of gear. Everything that has been added is a world event driven piece of temporary content. In no mmo i have ever played have you had to grind out gear to do world events that were intended to be done by everyone. So really this isnt anything new or different. Pretty standard actually.
And then there are fractals. Which do involve grinding and the need for better gear. Again, fairly standard.
The difference here is that their focus has been on the world events, not the typical dungeon farm mindset of precious mmos.
It is what it is. But not really different.
Very true and you make a valid point. But I was referring more on the lines of the gear itself, not what it was used for.
So far, we don’t have a gear treadmill (kind of) at the moment. While other games feature dungeons/raids for their endgame content, GW2 features open world “raids” for their content. The premises is the same, just different ways of doing it. Other game’s endgame content requires a gear treadmill. While GW2’s endgame content doesn’t require a gear treadmill.
Other games are releasing dungeons and raids for their style that require that gear grind. GW2 is releasing open world events for their style, that doesn’t require a gear grind. The only gear treadmill in GW2, is instanced and optional and doesn’t follow the traditional path of ongoing content.
I hope that made sense. Was kind of throwing myself off trying to explain it. But mostly, my post was just to inform how the OP was misquoting Anet and how it didn’t relate to what was being discussed.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Dont be tricked by people trying to recruit you .
WvW= SoR.
PvE= JQ.
If your looking for EU, no idea. Those are real and without influence.
TC IS NOT WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR .
Not trying to recruit, just answering the OP’s question. He is looking for a populated world so he isn’t lonely. TC is exactly that. People have trouble transferring to our world cause it is so full all the time. He wants population, so I filled him in on TC.

The only quote that makes sense to what you are talking about, is the one from Mr. O’Brien where he says, “We don’t make grindy games”. Which is false. Cause this game is all about grinding for cosmetics. And when the soul purpose of a game is cosmetic only, and you put all those cosmetics behind a grind, then you made a grindy game.

Depends what you are looking for. A lot of servers have unofficially dedicated themselves to certain aspects (RP, PvP, PvE).
Tarnished Coast (the unofficial RP server), is very highly active with a large population. We also have a nice dedicated PvP team and our PvE is pretty decent as well. We RP too if you are into that and have a very friendly and welcoming home.
Can’t speak for the other servers, but hopefully some others can give you incentive into what they offer. Hope that helps.

There is a difference between people complaining about RNG boxes, and telling people how they should play the game.
No it’s not. It’s all the same frustrating. You hate it that people tell you how to play the game and I hate it that no matter how ArenaNet trys to bring fun in the game there are people who whine that ANet only wants to frustrate people and everything is bad. Cause that’s not right. They want to frustrate people? Really? The event is great. Maybe southsun had some bad parts, but this event now is so different and still there are people who find it bad like southsun. I can’t understand why people can think like this and still stay in the game if it’s really that bad for them.
It is still two completely different things. They are in no way the same thing at all.
It’s like this. If you say “I hate TV”, then you are complaining. Then someone comes and says “That is cause you are not watching it right/watching the right show”. They are trying to dictate how you watch TV and that the only reason you hate it is cause you are not doing it their way.
Same for GW2. Complaining about RNG boxes is one thing. That person is making a complaint. But telling someone that their way of playing the game is wrong, because they are not playing the game the way you play it, is a completely different thing. They are in no way the exact same thing. One is a complaint, the other is trying to tell you how to play.
Sure both are frustrating, but that wasn’t even the point of what was being talked about. They are still two different things.

And people enjoy the game different ways. What you may see as enjoyable, others may not. Don’t think that cause people aren’t doing things your way, that they are not enjoying the game. We are all different and enjoy different things. I see this argument all the time on these forums. People need to realize that everyone finds different things enjoyable, so stop telling people that they are not enjoying the game or not playing the game right, just cause it is not the way you play the game.
Then all the ones who whine about the coffers should stop telling everybody that all is bad and ArenaNet is the greatest demon in the world, too. There are people who enjoy this event. And I for myself think that this time the coffers are really great. Cause they drop a lot and there is every time the chance to get a ticket. Far not as frustrating as the southsun-crates.
That has absolutely nothing to do with what I just said.
There is a difference between people complaining about RNG boxes, and telling people how they should play the game.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
The problem isn’t that this is the first day, it’s that it is all based on a game of chance.
People could buy these boxes every day for the entire month and STILL not get a ticket. So it doesn’t matter whether we wait the whole month for a chance at them or not. It is still a gamble whether you will get one now, or in a month. Impatience has nothing to do with it. It is all about the fact that you have to gamble for them. No waiting or patience is going to change that.
And people enjoy the game different ways. What you may see as enjoyable, others may not. Don’t think that cause people aren’t doing things your way, that they are not enjoying the game. We are all different and enjoy different things. I see this argument all the time on these forums. So my account was hacked. My friend had just come out of hospital after recovering from cancer. He REALLY Wanted to play, so I was about to log on, these are the incorect details, I was like ‘’ Alrighty then ’’ I tried around 5 more times, failed, so I contacted guild wars 2 support and they helped me, put new measures in place for my account. When I told my friend, we was skyping with cams on. The smile on his face was so amazing.
So thank you guild wars 2 support. Your all freeking amazing!
It’s so nice of you to write this, GambGaming. Thanks for helping your friend, and please send our best wishes for a speedy recovery!
I find this reaction controversial. Back in December when the Newtown shooting happened, and since there is no Off-Topic sub form(which I wonder why there is still no off topic forum), I came here and created a thread for a moment of silence for the victims of that terrible tragedy. The thread was quickly closed as it did not pertain to GW2.
This thread, while we all do wish his buddy a speedy recovery, is marginally about guild wars 2 and more about his friend and recovery. Yet this one is allowed open, and the heartless brute who closed my thread in December is no where to be found. While this DOES have a small connection to GW2, its very marginal and this just points out that the moderation of these forums is poor.
I do wish your friend a speedy recovery.
The main topic of his post was about how GW2 was able to recover his friend’s account efficiently. He put a bit of a back story in there, but still kept to the topic of how he felt Anet’s support team was amazing to him. So it is completely GW2 related, unlike the topic you posted which had nothing to do with GW2.

Honestly, it doesn’t even matter. No statistics are going to make it any better.
It’s a game of chance. You get lucky, or you don’t. That’s the end of it really. Some people got a ticket on their first regular coffer, while others nothing at all after 100+. And it is the exact same thing with the rich coffers.
In the end, it is all luck based. Statistics don’t matter.

3. Some people want to have BIS gear. They think they can’t live without it. In other games that may be true, but in Guild Wars 2. it’s not. If you join a speed run group, they may want you to have the BIS gear. If you join a casual dungeon group, they won’t. No one I know requires a gear check. You can run a dungeon in greens. The ONLY grindy bit in this game is Fractals of the Mists and you can still play the content without ever getting TO the grindy bits. Basically if you don’t care about doing the highest difficulty levels of FoTM you won’t care. Everything else you can do with rares, which are easy to acquire.
Just for the record though, maximum strength gear is still fairly easy to get. It’s cosmetics you have to grind for.
Well technically, it’s not fairly easy to get. Ascended gear is maximum strength, not Exotic. And the grind to get Ascended is pretty steep.

why cant we down vote stuff like this
so why would this be a horrible post everyone should downvote to oblivion ?
i have a valid argument theres been a lot of pointless threads about the doll each repeating what the earlier one said wich was asking “What do you guys think”
this is pretty much like elementary school kids laughin non stop in a classroom cuz the Secks ED teacher showed a picture of and mentioned a P P .
Because your post provides no constructive feedback at all. You are just complaining about complainers, which serves no purpose. And is against the rules.
Kind of hypocritical to come here telling others to grow up for complaining about something, yet you are here making a thread to complain about them. Take your own advice.

I think it was more on the lines of, instead of doing a full out fix for Dragon Ball, which could of taken awhile, they did a hot fix instead and just disabled them for PvP in general till they could solve the full issue.

You already got your extra reward when you bought a Collector’s Edition. That is the whole point of buying the Collector’s Edition. For the bonus rewards that Standard Edition players don’t get.
The Mini Pack was a gift to those who have CONTINUED to support Anet. Which you haven’t done. You bought your Collector’s Edition and were rewarded appropriately for that. You are not entitled to bonus rewards after you have already been rewarded.
The people being rewarded the Free Mini Pack are being rewarded cause they are STILL giving Anet money and continuing to do so, thus continuing to support the company.

Finally got mine and then they showed up in the gem store so was able to pick up the extra set for the MF mini. So thanks for that. Saved me 500 gems.
See I don’t mind giving Anet money for stuff like this. I know what I am getting and I am getting it directly. I don’t have to gamble my money away for a chance at what I want. But this RNG stuff is just making me want to leave this game.
Sure short term you’re making a lot of money off the RNG “suckers”, but long term, you end up losing players like myself who are willing to spend money, but won’t cause of your RNG tactics. You end up losing loyalty and respect from your customers and end up losing players and money cause you wanted to make a quick buck with these gamble tactics of yours.
In the end, this is going to hurt them in the long run, which is what really matters.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
Take a lucky guess.
And if you don’t know, they are behind RNG gamble boxes yet again.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
I only know of two mini pets. One of which I already have that drops from Dragon Coffer’s. It’s a holographic knight of some kind I forget the actual name but it should be on the TP the last time I checked there was like 100 of them posted on there for 3-5g.
And there is the moa mini which takes ALOT of gold to get from moa racing in LA by farshore.
From the patch notes:
The Dragon Bash Mini Pack is now available in the Minis category of the Gem Store for 500 gems. The Dragon Bash Mini Pack contains three exclusive holographic minis to commemorate the Dragon Bash festival. If you place all three minis from the Dragon Bash Mini Pack in the Mystic Forge along with the Mini Holographic Risen Knight (which can be obtained from either Rich Dragon Coffers or Dragon Coffers), you will receive a Mini Holographic Colossus.
Yet there is no mini pack in the gem store.

Yeah was wondering this as well myself. Figured it was the one thing I could actually buy that wasn’t stuffed behind RNG, and they aren’t even there.
(Ugh just had an awful thought. What if they removed them so they could put them in the coffers instead? >.<)

Well, looks like yet another event that I am not going to get any new skins from. So sick and tired of all this gamble/rng junk. Worst part is, I knew they were going to do it yet again, regardless of all the complaints that happen every time they introduce these things. Yet I hoped that they wouldn’t, but guess it was just a lost cause. Anet really doesn’t care what we think. They only care about money now.
Come to think of it, I might just end up quitting this game. I’m not sure what happened to the original GW2, but this is not it. It’s become an rng cashcow farmfest now. I have just lost all hope that this game will become something amazing.

Really? The hat is what breaks immersion for you?
Nevermind the fuzzy Quaggan/Charr backpacks, 8-bit retro video game weapons/backpacks, a bow that shoots rainbow unicorns with Anet logos on them, a candy cane hammer, aviator sunglasses, gw2 logo t-shirts and hats, etc etc.
Face it. Anet doesn’t care about immersion. Soon we’ll all be wearing Pepsi/Coca Cola branded armor with McDonalds/Burger King weapons and doing dungeons that are brought to you by Maybelline.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
It isn’t WoW that GW2 has to worry about. I got a video too.
BaG is a hypocrite and has no idea what he is talking about half the time. He even makes stuff up to try and prove his point, when everyone has already called him on his bs. He has hated on GW2 since before it was launched. So naturally he is going to favor other games over GW2 all the time and try to compare how much better they are than GW2, with all his false information and hypocrisy.
He sits here and says that GW2 only has 8 dungeons and the different variations on how you can do them doesn’t count. Then he goes on about how ArchAge has only 4 classes, yet you can spread them out in different variations and that is perfectly fine. He’s a hypocrite. I wouldn’t take anything he says seriously.

Actually, awhile back (if some remember) there was a bug that affected specific accounts. It basically put a permanent DR on certain accounts to where they were not getting any loot or just terrible loot drops. It was happening to a lot of people, and the Devs eventually looked into it, and found out that certain accounts had this bug.
Wish I could remember the link to that information, so I could link it to you. But it happened awhile back, and who knows, it could be happening again with all the complaints yet again about certain players having just no loot and no luck at drops.
Just be lucky you’re getting something at least. I barely get any drops at all, and when I do, it is mostly junk items. Been playing since beta and I have never got an exotic to drop or any rare materials. I’ve had a few rares in my entire time playing, but otherwise it is nothing but grey or white junk items, and then nothing at all most the time.

2. Ranger
3. Guardian
4. Thief
5. Elementalist
6. Necromancer
7. Engineer
8. Mesmer

I love how the OP claims this game is like WoW, then goes on to complain about features missing from GW2 that are in WoW. Rather mind-boggling.
-“No defined roles/holy trinity like in WoW!!” WoW Clone.
-“Rangers should be like Hunters in WoW! Only Bows!!!” WoW Clone.
-“No dedicated Healers like in WoW!!” WoW Clone.
Please tell me you are trolling….

Cantha District in the human city
a ton of minigames that were officially done and in the game according to a pre launch interview
I’m pretty sure thakitten was developed that way since the start of the development process. They didn’t make it and then just take it away.
About mini games: think of it this way – they made 1st person camera, but in the first beta they found out thakitten ’s really buggy and had to take it out.Actually there was a Canthan District there. It was replaced with the Great Collapse.
I can’t find the actual quote about it, but here is a bit of info taken from the wiki about why it was changed.
This area was originally a completed Canthan district and included a blend of Asian architectures. However, this mix of styles received negative feedback from China and Korea, since those gaming markets traditionally prefer a uniform design. Due to time constraints the district was replaced by the Great Collapse.
And an image of the Canthan District before it was changed to the Great Collapse.

And it seems more fitting this way. It’s Kryta, not Cantha. Expect Cantha in a Canthan expansion. Also people probably would have complained about no Illonian district in Kryta then.
Divinity’s Reach was supposed to cater to all races, thus why they had different Districts for them.
And there is an Elonian District. The Ossan Quarter.
