#1

Run As Admin/Remove Read Only

  • Close your game completely.
  • Ensure your game is set to Run As Administrator in the shortcut’s Properties > Compatibility tab.
  • Ensure the ‘Read Only’ attribute is not set in the right-click > Properties for Gw2.exe, Gw2.tmp and Gw2.dat files in the installation directory.
  • Then re-launch and see if the issue persists.

If it persists:

#2

Check the game for errors and repair it

  • Close your game completely.
  • Next, make a copy of your Gw2 game shortcut and rename it “GW2 Repair” or to something that you will recognize it for being only for running a repair on your GW2 installation.
  • Now, right-click this “Gw2 Repair” shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Shortcut” tab look in the “Target:” field, you should see:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” or wherever you have Guild Wars 2 installed.
  • After the closing quotation marks in this line put a space and then add -repair
It will look like this but with your GW2 install location:
    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” -repair
  • Hit OK after making this change.
  • Run this repair shortcut. Your game will run through a repair cycle and fix any damaged files it finds.
  • After it runs through, start the game using the normal GW2 game shortcut (not the repair shortcut) and see if your game can run properly.

If it still persists:

#3 (most likely to fix the problem, I think)

Delete the local.dat file
Deleting this file will also cause you to lose your saved game settings (graphics, stored login data, etc.) but may fix the problem. If you rely on your stored login info to log in, make sure you can recall what your login info is as the stored login info is also cleared.

The quickest way to do this is to:

  • Ensure your game is completely closed.
  • Hold your Windows Key and press ‘F’ to open your Windows Search.
  • Search for “Local.dat”. 2 files will be found.
  • Ignore the “Local.dat” file that is in the game installation folder.
  • Delete the “Local.dat” file that resides at:
    “C:\Users\YourComputerUserName\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2”
  • Load up your game normally and see if the game runs properly.
  • You will notice that your settings are reverted to default. You should reconfigure your game settings once again to your preference.

Building the Twisted Marionette in secret

in Lore

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

The nugatory act of clicking +1 on your post cannot fully stress the level at which I concur with the veridicality of your assemblage of perspicuous assessments.

Well, i was bout to create a topic about the supsension of disbelief the storytellers expect from us right now and mostly with the current update.

Do not get me wrong. I know a certain amount is always needed and i understand that on paper everything looked fine. However one of the mainproblems is the time the information we got is distributet, causing a lot of WTF moments for me and i expect others.

Why does no one really care about Scarlet?
Let`s face it. No one really does something against her. The only ones we know of are our faboulous five.
She is menacing the lands for over a year and no one took action. Rythlock himself does apearently not really care about her, using her as a “test” for Rox to show her worth.
The Order pop up here and there “investigating” the effects, but do not seem to look for the source.
For me, no one is actually putting effort into it.
I mean, she is building armies, giant robots and flying fortresses. There are magical readings to pick up, energysources and reccources to follow.
These things do not appear out of thin air (holographic technique exepted, but that does not count). If you do something this big, you always leave a trail.
So… are the people of Tyria just incompetent?
I mean, at the jubilee we cracked her portal code one time. Why did no one improve on that?
Why did nobody do anything? Even simple scent hounds would have been able to find something.

Heck she does build whole facilities and labratories right under our very noses and no one does see it or find it suspecious?
I know “if you want to hide something, do it where everyone can see it.” However this is getting way to far.

Why did no one take a look at these probes?
Yes, we wanted foreshadowing. Okay… but you have to admit: Putting these out a month before and do nothing with them was not very practical.
Yes it drove the theories to Primodorus, but at the same time it baffles me that no one in Tyria (again) mentioned these things or did something with them.

By this point the whole system of Tyria feels like the bad cops in an 80s action show, while the “only” competent people do something.

Why is the Marionette a genius idea?
Okay, it looks interesting and is her perception of the world.
However as a weapon it is the stupiest thing i have ever seen.
It`s attack radius is about 200 m max, even with it`s laser of doom.
It needs an outside powersource to power this weapon up and a complicated set up of giant flying UFO and apearently five additional power generators to work.
Even if you take the portal technology into acount, this thing is not something you would use as an offensive, but defensive weapon to guard something.

Even if the power problem is taken care off, it still needs the chains to keep its balance.
Tyria has a lot of technology and magic which is able to sever these.

She is openly testing this thing. We know it exists. There is apearently ample time to get some defensive installments done, before these things will hit anything.

Nobody is this perfect
Yes i get it, she is smart, she has a lot of “help” or something.
However what she is doing is way over anybodys head. It is not like she is doing it in plain sight, by being public about it and suddenly changes something into a weapon, like a real smart villain would do.
No, she just has it… and it was there all the time. We just never saw it…
Where was it? In the mists? Not being programmed?
No hints, no signs, no anything.

Yes, there are limits to what you can do and to be fair, this was one of the better patches, however in context the whole thing wants me to run against a wall.
There are just so many “stupid” things that do not make the plot feel smart, but like a bad cartoon.
What is next? The MA pulling out the turtles Technodrome, as they build their own Black Citadel steam powered tank?

Nice job.

Also, Vexia, you can add multiple images by previewing your post after selecting an image. Doing this attaches the image and another can be selected. Repeat to do more. Can add more also even when editing an existing post by previewing each attachment, though for your updated images to appear on your edited post you have to actually edit your post by adding a space or a blank line or anything that actually changes your post for it to update with the new pictures.

Random deaths

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Unfortunately for anyone who wants to enjoy Lornar’s Pass without taking part in the Marionette Boss Event, when the event fails every single person in the entire zone is killed instantly regardless of participation in the event or not. There is not even a notification of why you are suddenly killed as you venture along the road on the other side of the map…you just are and are expected to know that failure of other players to complete an event elsewhere somehow results in your instant death. Sadly, this is intentional behavior by design.

Due to this penalty of death upon failure of the event being inflicting on every single person in the entire zone, I recommend staying clear of Lornar’s Pass until this temporary “content” event is over with. For players not interested in this “content”, pleasant strolls long the foothills, enjoyment of the many dynamic events we have grown fond of taking part in, and any interest in completing the zone (vistas, POIs, etc.) pretty much must be put on hold until this little side show is over with. All this penalty has done is drive players away from the entire zone due to being penalized for not wanting to take part in the temporary event. I love Lornar’s Pass. I would frequently stroll the paths and take in the great scenery. Looks like this zone is taken from us and is off limits until this event is over with for fear of random and sudden death due to no fault of our own while trying to enjoy the beautiful zone at our leisure.

Black Lion Trading Post Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

The cache clear and run as admin together should have corrected that issue. Can you try clearing your cache again now and see if it helps? I don’t think running a client repair will help, but if you want to give it a shot after clearing the cache again you can see if it does.

Clear the game cache
In addition to ‘Running As Administrator’ helping with many issues other than just the TP, most TP-specific issues are primarily related to some temporary GW2 files where removing them will allow them to be recreated and the TP to function properly again.

The quickest way to clear the GW2 Cache is to:

  1. Ensure your game is completely closed.
  2. Hold your “Windows Key” and press “F” to open Windows Search on your computer.
  3. Search for “gw2cache
  4. It will find a folder called “gw2cache-{bunch-of-letters-and-numbers}” at:
    “C:\Users\YourComputerUserName\AppData\Local\Temp”
  5. Delete this “gw2cache-{bunch-of-letters-and-numbers}” folder that is shown in the results.
  6. Load up your game normally and see if your TP functions properly.

  • After it runs through, start the game using the normal GW2 game shortcut (not the repair shortcut) and see if your TP can load up properly.

Regarding the topic, perhaps the locals can re-purpose the wood used in the tower (that was taken from the surrounding trees) to construct a monument on the shores of Viathan Lake to commemorate the victory. Showing the structure in various states of construction over the next few updates, while also including NPCs chopping at the remains of the fallen fortress and the incremental lessening of fragments littering the area, would really give the world that Living World feel.

Un-used Sclerite Greatsword skin.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

If you acquired the skin at a time when they were account bound and not tradeable, then they will remain as such despite no longer having the account bound status in their description from when they were made tradeable. When they were made tradeable, only newly acquired versions of this skin were made able to be traded and previously existing copies remained account bound…and that fact removed from their description. Made no sense then and still doesn’t, but that is how it is. :\

The only way known to make an old skin tradeable is to acquire a new, 2nd skin and stack them. This will make them both tradeable and you can then split the stack and sell one or both of them.

[Suggestion] AFK auto-kick time

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Very much agree, though I would vote for 15 minutes (20 max) as my ideal time. There are also many people with disabilities and medical conditions to where it can easily take 10-15 minutes just to go to the bathroom. I think 10 minutes would be a little on the ‘bit too soon’ side, with 20 being the longest I can see as being reasonable. But, yeah, an hour has no logical basis for being the kick time any longer with the content changes and world dynamics having evolved.

Owl and Raccoon: Demoted

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I am confused because the OP said the owl was just ambient, but I saw no owl walking along with the raccoon. Can a dev please tell us why it was necessary for the owl to be removed? It’s just something that made me smile, and now the raccoon is going to be lonely.

Owl is still there. They still follow their routine of walking in silence around the lake together, it’s just that they are both classified as ambient (white) now instead of only Raccoon being ambient and Owl being neutral (yellow). If you see one without the other, then someone likely slaughtered one and it has yet to ‘respawn’. Usually one will complete its circuit and then it will wait for the other to ‘return’ before venturing on their journey again.

Owl and Raccoon: Demoted

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I actually feel remorse if I accidentally kill the wandering duo while fending off the hungry bears. I have never intentionally killed either of them. It also gets to me if I see one without the other (usually Raccoon waiting for Owl). To see it there, alone, waiting and wondering if their friend will return to them. It reminds me of that story from some years ago of a dog that would be let outside and it would go to where this cat was waiting for it. Like old buddies. They would then go walking around together in silence, like old war buddies just needing that company of someone who understands, but does not need to say a word.

The most mysterious drawing in Scarlet's Lair

the only thing i can think of is that it’s a drawing of the briar she saw. it’s similar to the briar she drew on that palm tree pale tree on another sketch.

Okay, lets get this out of the way.

Personally, I see that image from her lair (the “palm tree”) as being upside down. It’s actually the drill digging into and cracking the ground it is digging into by channeling the “weapon” energy in a spiral (drill) fashion into it.

Black Lion keys not at all worth the money.

Could you give an example of a secret mechanic in the Guild Wars 2 please?

There is a chicken in Tyria that you can try to kill, but you just make him angry, and you won’t like him that way.

Is there something secret about the demotion of the Owl in Queensdale (of the Owl and Raccoon strolling buddies) from yellow to white? The Raccoon was white and the Owl was always yellow. After this patch, Owl is white…and looks sad like it was caught strolling around without Raccoon and was demoted.

What did Owl do to deserve this?

Oh, wait. Kai, if the launcher/updater crashed while it was downloading then the entire thing must be re-downloaded unless you had a backup of your install saved somewhere else, which is a really good idea to do. Tech support has said in the past that if your launcher crashes for some reason, you lose power or turn your comp off during the patching process, that you are pretty much screwed. :\

Alternative for FXAA?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I use FXAA PPI for enhanced anti-aliasing, color richness, bloom effect, sharpness, etc. Quick and easy to set up and run. Can use it in many games without installing it in each game or copying configuration files anywhere. All profiles are switchable, copyable, removable within the program.

https://www.assembla.com/spaces/fxaa-pp-inject/wiki
Grab the latest FxaaToolSVN117 from the ‘Files’ tab.
Hitting the download button from the main page is the FxaaToolSVN112 as it hasn’t been updated with the latest version available.

Can view them here: http://stinvec.imgur.com if you would like.
I also have side-by-side comparisons with ‘vanilla’ GW2 settings there.

See if you’d like to give it a try based on my screens.

I haven’t used Sweet FX for quite a while, but I have no real desire to switch from FXAA PPI as I’m very happy with its options and results. Also, having absolutely no game crash issues that I see others having with Sweet FX is nice. I’m not sure if one is better than the other in a broad or technical sense, but I find FXAA PPI to be very easy to adjust with clearly defined effects so it is easy to know what to tweak to get the results I desire. It really has a lot of options. I also have absolutely no performance loss with it unless I go real overboard on the bloom passes.

Here was a discussion from about 8 months ago with some others on the application. Some more info there as well:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/8-months-and-zero-optimization/1904467
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/8-months-and-zero-optimization/1910878

It has some settings screenshots/file links there also for what settings I was using at the time. I switch up and tweak them frequently. If I am on my warrior I tend to adjust settings so I roam areas with almost a medieval tone to where things seem less saturated/cartoony and have a bit of a darker atmosphere or a less rich color to the environment. Sometimes I tweak it so it has that dirty western feel for one of my rangers. Sepia tone, scan line and noise adjustments are really great for this, especially to add a bit of a film grain quality as if in a western movie.

Client making me Download all of GW2 again

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

For some reason some of the files that need to be updated are no longer able to be written to, so the game thinks it has to download the entire file again instead of modifying the existing one.

I also highly recommend that, if you have plenty of storage space on your hard disk, that you make a backup copy of your installation folder someplace else on your drive so you can just copy it over in the event you need to re-install the game or it becomes damaged. This way you do not have to re-install and re-download everything all over again.

BLTC freeze on open

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Opening the TP had always caused a little bit of a lockup as the running awesomium_process.exe accessed the TP server and loaded graphics, which also used CPU, but it was not really all that bad, but noticeable.

However, the reason for the recent increase in very noticeable lag/lockup/delay when opening the TP is because the awesomium_process.exe used to launch upon opening the TP for the first time upon entering the game and stay running the entire time you played and then be closed upon exiting the game. Apparently, in addition to the serious issue of the BLTP interface disabling keyboard (chat/movement) binds when being interacted with, the awesomium_process.exe is launching when you open the TP and then being closed once you exit the TP…having to relaunch the process every single time you open your TP up during gameplay. This will cause a second or three of locking up while the process is executed and accesses the TP server. I think they made this change so the process doesn’t eat resources for the entire time you are playing just because you used the TP once. I think they tried to improve performance by closing the process when not in use, but underestimated the frequency at which players access the TP…leading to constant relaunching of the program.

Leveling with 80 in mind: Your Thoughts?

Although they are rare, Transmutation Crystals are available in ways other than outright purchase. In the last 2 months I got a set from a BLTC Chest (from farming keys) and a set from Map/Zone Completion. (I have been lucky lately.) =)

I had been very fortunate to acquire many of them from zone completion and non-farming of BLTC Chests in the first 6-8 months of playing the game. Then my luck died and I ended up using all of them and buying many more (prompting my new sub-80 style of gameplay). Even with doing the 25min key runs that I finally gave in and started doing about 3 weeks ago, I haven’t gotten a single Transmutation Crystal yet (though I did get enough scraps to get a sclerite greatsword during the sale). I have not looked them up on the wiki for quite a while to see if they were still acquirable via those methods. Glad to hear they still do drop from them. It seems my luck with RNG is just not that great anymore in regards to those dropping for me.

Leveling with 80 in mind: Your Thoughts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Also:

Smaller Tips Part 1:

  • If you see anyone in chat asking for 10 silver to buy their Adept Trait Manual, do not give them 10 silver, they are scammers and your coin would be going into the gold seller’s pockets.
  • Copper, Silver, Gold, Gems:
    100c = 1s
    100s = 1g
    100g = Lots ’o coin
Gems can be bought with real money or with in-game gold.

Trading Post #1 – Trading Post Taxes

  • When you list an item to sell (or even if you sell directly to a buy order) you will be instantly charged a 5% non-refundable listing fee. If the item sells then an additional 10% of what the item sells for will be deducted from sale of the item (direct sell gets the total 15% taken out as if you had listed it and it was then bought). On the sell screen is “Projected Profit” above the “Sell” button…always pay attention to that amount when listing. The listing fee isn’t deducted from this “Projected Profit”, so you need to manually subtract the listing fee from the Projected Profit to see if you actually do make any profit on the sale. You are actually able to list an item and make back less than what the item would ‘vend’ for due to this system. So, always compare your Projected Profit minus listing fee to the vend price of the item and do not sell it if it is less.

Can also salvage blue and green (fine and masterwork) armor, weapons and trinkets to earn Luck to increase your account magic find percentage.

Trading Post #2 – Bulk Orders and Vending

  • When you go to sell an item on the trading post you will only be shown the very highest buy order and very lowest sell price of the listed item. On most items you will notice that the highest buy order is 1 copper above ‘vend’ price …never sell to these rock bottom bulk orders. As stated earlier, due to the TP taxes you will actually make less from selling it to them than if you vended the item at a merchant.

Trading Post #3 – Proper Listing and ‘Clotting’

  • Much of the time the lowest listed item is a large order of several dozen to several hundred and it shows it is from a single buyer, and the lowest sell order is one or two copper above that bulk buy order. Do not list your item with that lowest sell listing. If you go to sell anything on the trading post, first click to “Buy” more of the item, so you can see what all of the selling prices are for that item, not just the lowest. Many times the ‘going rate’ / ‘clot’ of the item for sale is much, much higher than the lowest sell order. This is mainly due to the fact that the same person making that bulk buy order for one copper above vending, also frequently lists one (or a couple) of that item at 1 or 2 copper higher than their buy order so people would be more likely to just sell to their buy order.
    Example:
    - Item vends for 10 copper
    - Highest buy order is for 500 of them at 11 copper by a single seller
    - Lowest sell order is one or two of the item at 12 copper
    - Going rate/‘clot’ (bulk of the selling items and the actual value of the item) are actually at 1 silver 20 copper
    _
In this example, the bulk buyer is actually listing a few at 1 copper above their buy order to increase the likelihood that people would just sell the item to their buy order since in the sell screen you cannot see that the actual value of the item is 10x that amount. They may have lost one or two of their item by listing them to sell, but in the time that they were listed at dirt cheap, dozens had been sold to their buy order.
It may take a while longer to list all of your items on the TP, but the extra time is very much worth it to ensure you’re actually getting what your item is worth, as well as not letting this buyer, who is actually exploiting the fact that only the lowest listing is visible on the sell screen, get away with this underhanded tactic.

Leveling with 80 in mind: Your Thoughts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

StinVec.3621

I recommend forgetting entirely about getting to 80 and just play how you want as long as you are having fun.

I strictly play Open World PvE (OWPvE) …no PvP (WvW IS PvP) or Dungeons, which are Instanced PvE (IPvE).
I’ve started to just make a new character when I reach level 73-78, even if it is a clone of that one just so I don’t hit 80. I wish I could turn off experience gain (like other games) to keep myself from hitting 80, but the level 80 transmutation crystals sales would drop too much so that will never happen with the current system (i.e. no armor skin closet). I outfit my characters with the styles I want at level 11 (helm/shoulder able to be equipped) so they look the way I want the entire time I’m playing them, which means using 6-8 transmutation crystals once (if I outfit them with level 80 skins) and then use the free transmutation stones that rain down on us (can get 3 in less than 5min as many times as you want) to copy appearances to upgraded gear. Getting to 80 means nothing to me but then needing to purchase many additional transmutation crystals to change my look at any point in the future (haven’t gotten any from map complete, personal story or BLChests in over a year so I think they’ve removed them from being awarded in those cases). Most of my characters that hit 80 become mules due to a character slot being cheaper than a bank expansion in terms of slots made available to you.

Levels really are irrelevant in this game and should not have even been implemented as a gauge for stat modifying (stats shouldn’t even have been locked to armor or weapons in the first place). Stats should have increased dynamically based on what skills you use. Using skills from specific skill categories would boost certain stats based on frequency of their use… you know, experience granted based on actual experience using those skills. You would really be leveling up your character’s experience with individual skills and not some overall stat modifier (character level). That’s why I think they didn’t really fail at replacing the trinity with something else, but that they really failed to effectively remove the trinity and all elements that only exist because of the use of the trinity to the extent that they needed to (armor weight class restrictions for one).

Black Lion Trading Company interface bug

StinVec.3621

As the issue was not mentioned as having been corrected in the bugfix update, no dev has acknowledged it as being worked on, and not many have been reporting this seriously disruptive issue, I thought that maybe it was cache related. I cleared my cache and patched to the new bug update and the issue persists.

Perhaps this is newly intended behavior of the TP to help hinder bots in the field that constantly list their inventories while killing and running. However, this severely impacts regular players who chat and sell off items while on the move. If this is intended behavior, would a dev reply here so we know not to keep pushing the issue and reporting it, please?

I kinda wanted to nerf the UFO comments that where showing up in the butt because a lot of people who feel GW2 is more SIFI then Fantasy where mentioning it.

Nerf something up in the butt? What does that even mean? lol

I believe they meant “nip it in the bud” with “nip” being replaced with the common gaming term of “nerf” used in its preventative form.

“Put a stop to something while it is still in its early development. This phrase derives from the de-budding of plants.”

Sort of how some people say other things incorrectly without giving it much thought:

Proper: “For all intents and purposes”
Incorrect: "For all intensive (or “intense and”) purposes"

Proper: “Couldn’t care less” (“Couldn’t” states that you already care as little as possible, which is usually not at all)
Incorrect: “Could care less” (“Could” implies that you do, actually, care about it to some degree, and are still able to care less than you currently do.)

Proper: “Buyer beware”
Incorrect: “Buy or beware”

Proper: “I would have gone with you”
Incorrect: “I would of gone with you”

Etcetera.

Gemstore update - dyes, nodes, food extenders

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Hey Dulfy, do you think it would be possible to make another set of armor previews for the dyes with some of the heavy armor with more metal pieces?

I know you chose the 6 sets used in your dye previews based on specific criteria, but since these dyes are specifically made to look good on metal (at least I assume based on the name) it might be nice to get a couple previews with a few of the armor sets that are full plate mail and such.

Does this help, Electro? I also included a side-by-side with my current FXAA PPI enhanced graphics settings to help show the contrast on the materials.

I also second RottenRagamuffin’s statement of do not buy the dye packs, just buy the dye you want from the TP. You’re guaranteed to get the dye you want without gambling and will cost less than repeatedly playing their silly game in the hopes of getting the one you want.

Others' Inappropriate Character Names

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Hi, Gaile. I hope you had a great holiday!

However, I must ask, will the employees responsible for handling in-game “Inappropriate Character Name” reports be returning from holiday vacation soon? I ask this because I have reported many players daily since early December who have swear words, sexual acts, a request for a sexual act, pooping/defecating, real world terrorist organizations and other inappropriate elements in their names, yet they are still running around and have not had to change their names. I have these players all on my block list to keep tabs on them so I know they still have not had to change their names. I can only attribute this to these type of reports not being looked at due to the holidays…but the holidays are over.

I know this has also been discussed before, but would they be more likely to receive attention and something be done about them if I/we refrain from submitting these in-game reports and instead file them manually through the new support website?

[Sug] Minion Acquisition and Management

in Necromancer

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Previous response in old suggestion:

RoseGirl.1467
I agree that we really need more control over the necromancer minions. Quite often i’m running around and they decide to go fight a random boar or something, or if i’m running from a fight in WvW or something, my minions stay behind and slow me down. I do like the idea of the F1 F2 idea, like a cross between ranger and Engineer, which would give more control over minions, not sure about the healing idea though as most Minion Masters use staff, which can heal minions through the number 1 skill. However I especially want a button like the ranger pets ‘Return to me’.

[Sug] Minion Acquisition and Management

in Necromancer

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

[…Continued]
But, with more minions summoned, the less control the necro has over them.
1 Summon:
F1 – Heals Summon #1
F2 – Special ability for Summon #1 much like the F2 ability on ranger pets.
F3 – Sacrifice the minion and cause a poisonous explosion at their location.
F4 – Sacrifice the minion for its life force (remaining health) to fuel death shroud ability instead.

2 Summons: By having 2 minions, the necro forgoes the special ability for Minion #1.
F1 – Heals Summon #1
F2 – Heals Summon #2
F3 – Sacrifice a random minion and cause a poisonous explosion at their location.
F4 – Sacrifice a random minion for its life force (remaining health) to then use for healing the remaining minion or to use as fuel for death shroud ability instead.

3 Summons: By having 3 minions, the necro forgoes the poisonous explosion ability.
F1 – Heals Summon #1
F2 – Heals Summon #2
F3 – Heals Summon #3
F4 – Sacrifice a random minion for its life force (remaining health) to then use for healing remaining summons or to use as fuel for death shroud ability instead.

Or simply limit it to 2 max summons and maintain the F3 and F4 functionality defined above in the 2 Summons area. Can also have it to where the initial summoning of a minion uses half of the life force bar, as needing life force to summon a minion makes sense. So the necro can choose to use the life force to create a new minion, to use it to heal an existing one, or sacrifice an existing one and then summon a new one if there is enough life force in reserve.

I make this suggestion primarily as a plea for the dark, necrotic side of the Necromancer to make its return. It deserves it. For the existing players that like how summons work currently, during character creation of a new necro, what way they want minions to be (current vs proposed) could be tied to a selection:

Current: “I wield the souls of creatures granted to me by X god.”
Proposed: “I dominate and control the souls of creatures of my own choosing.”

However, under the new minion acquisition and management, several skill unlocks would no longer exist that relate to the existing minions; e.g. minion summoning skills. So it might not be possible to allow existing necromancers to switch to the proposed form of minion acquisition and management, though I believe that it can be worked out to allow switching via a trait to where those summon skills are replaced with other minion related skills.

I know there is still a lot to work out on details and balancing, but it should only be implemented into PvE for starters and not in PvP modes as it could introduce a lot of issues with the existing balance for those modes of play.

However, I still believe that the changes that have been made in the name of balance in PvP and WvW should not have also been forced onto PvE players. These modes of play should remain completely separate from eachother; different skills and different traits ideally, but balance changes to PvP/WvW should not have any effect on PvE, just as the opposite should be true.

Anyone have additional thoughts or comments on this idea?

[Sug] Minion Acquisition and Management

in Necromancer

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

As suggestions are now encouraged to be made in their respective areas instead of the suggestions archive, I am making this suggestion again here in the hopes of garnering more opinions on this concept from those who play necromancer. I’d love to hear what you think!

I may be in the minority, but I really do not enjoy the way minions are handled in GW2, especially since it was so incredible in GW1.

I understand that there are reasons for why resurrecting minions from corpses was not implemented in GW2, but I feel that the way minions are currently handled is not ideal and is also lacking in depth. There is a lot of potential still to be had with the GW2 necromancer regarding minion acquisition and management over simply ‘buying’ a summon skill with skill points to summon one of the few predefined kinds.

Imagine if, just as the ranger has to ‘charm’ a juvenile pet for it to be selectable in the pet management, that a necromancer would need to kill an enemy/adult animal and perform a 10 second ritual or something which summons a dead/death-touched version of it, thus binding the soul/its essence to you and it then being able to be summoned in this proposed necromancer minion management. Necromancers could then be able to share some of the same pet control mechanics as the ranger in regards to controlling minions.

It wouldn’t have to be all types of animals that can be resurrected as the ranger has many of the same types of animals it can ‘charm’. Death form of animals could be one of each species; e.g. a feline, a drake, a spider, etc, but would look like dark, twisted versions of them…instead of just a re-skinning, though I’d not complain about that if that were the case. Or it could have nothing to do with animals and be entirely focused on species like Centaurs, or Humans, or even turn a Risen to do your bidding (maybe not Risen, lore likely prevents that).

Due to the increased control over minions (such as a ranger with directing their pet), being able to summon two or three minions at once would then be possible only to those necromancers who trait into minion controlling. To counter the OP nature of having three controllable pets, I would then like to see the return of the mechanic of minions constantly losing health and the need for sustaining your summons through sacrificing your own health, or better yet, your life force bar for death shroud. It would be interesting to have to choose between assuming death shroud or using the life force stored there through killing enemies to heal your minions.

And if you have two (or the max of 3) summoned minions, keeping the additional ones alive would be very taxing on your life force bar, so keeping and maintaining one or two would be ideal, but a third wouldn’t be impossible if there are plenty of enemies to fuel your life force bar. Even then, converting the life force into health for sustaining the minions could be attached to minion F-key skills with a cool down so you could only heal each of them so often.

New Years Character Slot Sale Please

Went ahead and just grabbed 3 more right away as two of these are going to be saved for Tengu (will need 3 or 4 more later on for Largos if my wish gets granted).

I dont know whether to be mad or happy, I bought (just) one yesterday… :-D

Last time I bought a character slot I was waiting for several days just in case they happened to go on sale…then I went ahead and bought one and a few hours later they popped up on sale. I was miffed…but I bought another from the sale anyway. This time I figured I would politely request, wait a week, and then buy just one if they didn’t go on sale.

I put money down for a weapon

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I put 14 gold down for eternity thinking i could take it out, but now i can’t get it back. Is this as intended or is there a way to get the money back?

As your question was answered by the other posters, why would you put in a buy order for Eternity for 14g?

The were probably using it as a type of bank to store gold for later removal. Following the forced pooling of account currency change that was made, and storing gold in the personal bank was removed, many players wanted a way to keep gold out of their wallets to prevent accidental, large purchases. Many players also role play and wanted to only keep gold available to a character earned by that character (live within its means type of thing). Since they removed the secure storage of gold from the bank, players had to find alternate ways of storing gold out of their wallet. One such method was placing buy orders on legendaries that would never get filled and they could withdraw that gold at any time if they needed it and it prevented accidental purchases that may have been made had it been in their wallet. Others chose to go the route of storing their gold in their personal 1-man guild bank…but there is still a bug that causes guilds to disappear, though most reappear after re-logging in again. Also, guilds can be deleted by game admins if the name is reported and found inappropriate, or the guild letters happen to spell something some may deem inappropriate. So the guild may even get deleted without warning and all items (and gold) in the guild bank could be lost simply because someone else reported it and it was seen as potentially offensive. So the guild bank does not seem secure to many. Buy orders on legendaries to store gold securely for later collection is still the most viable method to store gold outside of the wallet.
