I screwed myself with Cultural Armor

You could have transmuted it to re-skin white items (I’ve moved cultural armor from character to character before – I know this works) but only while the temp character exists. The account bound white item can then be safely stored.

If you have an open slot, you might try recreating the temp character with the exact same name if it’s available. That may allow you to pull it from the bank. Not likely, but worth exploring.

Unfortunately for players in situations like this, the recreation of a character does not permit access to the soul bound items once again, even if the name and all aspects of the character are exact. :\

Gem refund for new Flamekissed Light Armor?

I requested just my original 800 gems refunded and received them. It can take up to 72 hours for them to make contact and supply the refund, though mine took about 55 or so before I received it. You also get to keep the flamekissed skin (or at least keep it if it was already applied to armor).

You should submit a ticket through the support link at the top (then ‘submit a request’ link in the top right on that page) and request your refund. You should include whatever items you feel you should receive as a refund in your request (transmutation stones/crystals, makeover kits, etc.), though it is not guaranteed all items will be seen as valid for a refund beyond the 800 gems.

The new system is entirely email based, so you respond to tickets via replying to their email.

When you submit your ticket you will receive a new web page after submitting that shows your ticket number. You will also receive an email that states your ticket number and that your refund request was received. Then it’s a waiting game depending on how busy they are. If you don’t get their email in your inbox then you should also check your spam/junk box as it can sometimes get sent to there.

When making your ticket, I recommend selecting “Purchase Issue” as the first selection. Then in the next area of text titled “Issue”, select the [No selection] blue text and select “Refund” > “Gem Purchase”.

Then proceed to fill in all other relevant information; email, forum username.1234, GW2 serial code, subject – Refund: Flamkissed Light armor, etc.

If after 72 hours you do not have a response then you should proceed to comment in this thread and note your ticket number there so it can be followed up on. But it shouldn’t even reach 72 hours before you receive a response and your gems refunded.

I’ve never seen Pistrix not floating lifeless in over 3,000 hours. Is it not supposed to be dead?

Also, my Armor Fish likes to go for long, moonlit strolls on the shores.

they can do this with sooooooo many things, just look at gem store armor skins and you’ll see that the BL chest one is quite a non-issue compare to SB a gem store armor skin for 800 gems >_<

I agree that there are many things that many players desire to be account bound instead of soul bound, but gem store armor skins are not soulbound on acquire. Applying the account bound skin to a soul bound item will still leave a soul bound item, but a prettier soul bound item.

Tigre, I just wanted to update you with the development of a response from ArenaNet’s Curtis Johnson in the suggestion thread I created and linked earlier.

He states that they are “…looking into this”, though I do not know how soon one can expect a change to happen, if one were to happen. I just thought you may want to update your ticket with this information so they can find out if they can eventually help you with your current situation in the future and for you to hang on to those chests in the meantime.

Any particular reason you didn’t open them after unlocking them?

I’ve never personally encountered this issue, but I have actually seen it brought up several times in-game in map chat and also here on the forums. I was hoping to bring attention to this issue due to the recent account issue thread I linked having reminded me of how it was still a problematic behavior for unlocked chests. The author of the linked thread gave a good explanation of their reasons for saving them in their unlocked form; holding on to them until more desirable skins or items were released at a later date, only to recently find they were soul bound to a long since deleted character.

I am very glad to hear that you and your colleagues will be looking into possibly correcting this behavior, especially for the person in the thread I linked that is currently facing this problem. And thank you very much for your response on this subject! It was quite a pleasant and welcome surprise.

This seems like a massive problem within this community even myself I have placed a ticket in for this issue I spent rl money for keys to find the chests I unlocked where SOULBOUND to a character I enrolled without knowing this… And it seems the replies form the support are that I just have to put up with it as “this situation cannot be resolved” pffft it’s stupid.

It is very easily resolved. Previous changes to soulbound items being made account bound (Queen’s Gauntlet Tickets, for one) shows that they are quite capable of making this binding change quickly and easily even if the item resides in the bank and not on the character it was bound to…they have just not chosen to make this change as yet. As this behavior persisting has caused and will continue to cause players to no longer purchase keys for their chests in the future, it would be in their best interest to make this change.

To upgrade the stats of an item with a more powerful and level appropriate item, while also retaining the appearance of your old item, you would need to use transmutation.

  • Acquire your desired armor with the upgraded stats
  • If you are between level 1-79 you use a Transmutation Stone (level 80 requires a Transmutation Crystal) and select the components of each item you desire to be merged into a single item.

Level 1-79 Stones are most easily acquired from fully exploring a zone (including a main city), which awards you with 3 of them, though they can also be purchased from the gem store. Level 80 Crystals are primarily acquired from the Gem Store, though they can be acquired unreliably elsewhere through playing the game.

  • Double-click the Transmutation Stone
  • Drag and drop your old armor/weapon into one panel of the transmutation window
  • Drag and drop the new armor/weapon with the new better stats into the other side of the panel
  • Click the appearance of the item you wish to keep and it will slide into the middle
  • Click the stats of the new item and it will slide into the middle
  • If you have an upgrade you can select the upgrade to include in the end product as well
  • Click Transmute to merge the stats of one item with the appearance of the other

Be sure to double check that you selected the right items before hitting Transmute.

I’ve made a suggestion thread in the black lion forums requesting all previous and future unlocked black lion chests to be made account bound instead of soul bound (as is logical for these items).

Hopefully they will consider altering the Soulbound on Acquire functionality of this item.

OMG progress! Support had me make another Win7 login account, setting it as administrator. Loading the game as that user … THE TP WORKED. But of course the rest of the desktop was completely unconfigured, my attempt to buy gems failed due to “a problem with the payment provider,” and now most of my shortcuts have vanished from my regular desktop, including GW2’s. And the TP won’t work through my main desktop.

But PROGRESS!

Very interesting. I wonder which setting was altered on your previous admin account that is reverted to default in the new account that allows it to function properly.

As a note, you can copy all the files and shortcuts from your previous desktop to your new desktop if you would like. Just browse to “C:\Users\OldDesktopUserName\Desktop” and copy all of those files to your “C:\Users\NewDesktopUserName\Desktop” folder.

Zephyrite Helm Skin

The Zephyrite Helms were never available in the gem store and were only available during the Bazaar of the Four Winds event. Event rewards and items are not sold in the gem store and can never be acquired again after the event ends with the exception of specific items that were not account/soul bound on acquire (aspect back items, holographic wings, etc) and tradeable. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if they started offering event “meta” rewards in the gem store a while after the event ends, or just stopped giving event rewards and sold them straight out of the gem store during the event. Who knows where they’re going with the gem store now that they’ve chosen to take the road they recently started to go down.

Also, Rox and Braham weapons were never offered anywhere other than directly from the gem store and you can likely expect them to make a return in the future.

Dead events everywhere!

If you are a competent player almost every event in the game is soloable. Some are much tougher than others. Unless it is an event I actively dislike, or have just recently done, I generally do them.

My favorite events to solo are: The Eastern Collonade in Malchor’s, the champ Abom in CS, all the variants of the risen chickens in Malchor’s, the three pack of mobs in North West Brisbane, and the Modinir chain in Hirathi up to the final boss. Haven’t soloed him not sure it can be done.

I guess the point is I see uncompleted events as “yay something to do, if I want to” rather than “omg teh serverz r dyng”. When leveling or zone completing it actually MORE boring to come in and have no events up.

I solo the entire Harathi Hinterlands zone event chain (up to Ulgoth…yeah, can’t solo him) almost every single day and sometimes I do it several times a day. I’ll leave for an hour and, due to the events failing actually causing change to the zone, nobody being there to help defend the outposts allows the centaurs to push forward and recapture them, the waypoints get contested, ground gets lost, NPCs get dead and services made unavailable. One of the greatest configured zones and events in the game and it is a shame others are not as well done as that one is. 30-45min gets full bags of weapons/armor, 80+ supply bags to open for a ton expensive mats, 6-8 rares from drops, 6 champs soloed and each champ bag usually gives another rare or the occasional exotic, and a boss chest if others happen to be around to fight Ulgoth at the end. Some of the most fun I have found in this game is doing that event chain solo.

Gem Store Armor

No idea if this is in the correct part of the forums (sorry if not), but i’d like to know if once you buy a set of armor on the gem store, if you unlock it for the account or just one time…say if i transmute something else over the skin i bought, will that skin be lost? do i have to buy it again or can i aquire it again by clicking a button, like the achievement skins?

One time use, and once the skin is applied, it is spent. The only way to get it back is by using transmutation splitters (one splitter for every iteration i think) or re-buying it from the gem store…unless it’s the original flamekissed one, then you’re just sol with the rest of us.

Unfortunately, splitters do not return skin items. If you have an item that had a skin applied to it and you use a splitter on it…you lose the skin. Sad, huh.

Uhhh….

One time I split an exotic berserker staff with a dragon’s Jade skin on it. I got the skin back (as a statless item that requires transmutation, but still a skin similar to old fractal weapons) the sigil and a crafted berserker staff (soulbound).

From what I understand is that if the skin itself is a rare quality or higher it will come back as a skin skin, and other wise you get the statless item as a skin.

Oh, I’m quite shocked to hear that they finally got around to fixing it. It had been a commonly reported issue in the bugs forum almost every day since the splitters were introduced. Thanks for informing me of that.

Just wanted to bump and update the OP and those interested by mentioning that there is currently a character slot sale going on. It is only 15% off (so 680 gems instead of 800). I’m quite surprised that they threw another sale for these up only a month after the last one, though that was 25% off I believe.

If that is so, then your old ticket doesn’t even exist anymore. Unlocked black lion chests are soulbound, apparently.

So you have:

  • Unbound black lion chests that are fully tradeable without a vendor value
  • Account Bound Keys
  • Opened chests only produce account bound or unbound goods

…yet the unlocked chests are Soulbound on Acquire?

As cited as being an issue in this recent account issue thread, this behavior is highly undesired and illogical for these items.

All current and future unlocked black lion chests should be converted to be account bound as should have always been their behavior.

Please consider correcting this.

That’s a shame they took your armor away, it looked good on your character… I also have a sylvari and the look of the t3 flame kiss looked awesome on mine as well… I am now really looking forward to another game… Something like Star Citizen or World of Darkness.

Sent a ticket in yesterday asking for a refund, logged in today and had my 800 gems already. Also, my old armor was untouched. Bought myself the Trickster set and I look much better, so that’s good. Need to replace the boots and maybe the skirt.

I intentionally left my character that I applied the skins to at level 73 unplayed and in limbo since the initial situation happened just because I wasn’t sure how they would handle refunds if I was not happy with the re-skin. I have plenty of transmutation stones to use to correct my appearance, but had I advanced to level 80 I was not sure I would also be refunded transmutation crystals to correct my appearance as I was not 80 at the time the skins were applied. I wasn’t sure how much they would cleverly get around supplying refunds. If we were only getting the 800 gems, as we were kind of told was all we would get as a refund, then I would just be forced to waste the refunded gems on transmutation crystals to correct my character’s appearance. I didn’t see that as desirable, so my character sat for over 2 months. :\

All I requested for my refund (that I’m still waiting for a response on) was the 800 gems spent on the initial purchase; no additional items whatsoever. I almost applied the skins over my sylvari cultural snapdragon skins. Thankfully I had the mind to put them aside for the future…just in case. I nearly used a makeover kit to change my sylvari glow color, but due to the situation reaching the level that it did before I used one, I was luckier than most others and saved myself that aspect in my refund request.

I like design but not hearts cause it doesn’t suit well do male character.Even though dagger looks best in entire game,i wont buy it cause of that little “heart” detail

This is an example of why I support selling reskins of weapons and armor. A relatively minor alteration to an existing skin might take little developer resource, but result in significant additional sales.

I agree. I do not see offering alternate forms of existing armors and weapons (re-skinning) as being lazy, but as a way to offer us, the players, with many more options to achieve the look we desire within existing base designs.

Subscription-based Guild Wars 2

If GW2 went subscription-based or implemented “premium accounts”:

I would…

  • …never log in again
  • …immediately uninstall my game
  • …record myself melting my game packaging, installation CD and all my other ArenaNet merchandise with a blow torch and would then upload it to YouTube.
  • …never be a patron of any game or product that ArenaNet and its related companies currently has released or may release in the future.

Now, true expansions ala Guild Wars 1 finally being released…those I would gladly purchase and would restore a little of my faith in the company and its direction.

So I’m still confused for those of you that got gem refunds what happened to the new skin? Did Anet remove it and change your skin back to the armor type you placed it on or do you still get to keep the new skin as well?

Sorry, I still cannot corroborate any statements of receiving the refund and also retaining the skins already applied to armor; I still have no response to my refund request. I’ll be sure to update if/when I hear back on my very straight-forward refund request with what I am left with afterward.

No sound ingame

Close your game completely and then check your surround sound settings for your audio and make sure it didn’t get set to 5.1 or 8 channel/7.1 surround sound. Those modes are not supported by GW2 yet. Set it to 2 channel stereo.

Do you mean that when you launch your game it just sits there at the white launcher screen and displays 0.0 kb/s or does it actually pop up an error of unable to connect to the login server?

Try this:
Run As Admin

  • Close your game completely.
  • Right-click your GW2 game shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Compatibility” tab, check/enable the box for your game to “Run As Administrator”.
  • Hit OK after making sure this setting is enabled.
  • Re-launch your game with this game shortcut and see if the issue persists.

4) Disabled any overlay programs (MSI Afterburner, etc)

  • Mumble is actually well known for causing issues with TP functionality, sadly. Make sure it is not running in your task manager in any form and see if your TP can function properly.

3) Set the game to “Run As Admin”
As knives mentioned:

  • Close your game completely.
  • Right-click your GW2 game shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Compatibility” tab, check/enable the box for your game to “Run As Administrator”.
  • Hit OK after making sure this setting is enabled.
  • Re-launch your game with this game shortcut and see if the issue persists.

6) Have tried adding the /clientport 80 command line argument to the shortcut
This is generally used to potentially help lessen lag and connectivity issues for the game as whole and not specifically for TP connectivity issues. However, it has helped resolve TP issues for some in the past. If you want to give it a try:

  • Right-click your Gw2 game shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Shortcut” tab look in the “Target:” field, you should see:
    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” or wherever you have Guild Wars 2 installed.
  • After the closing quotation marks in this line put a space and then add /clientport 80
    It will look like this but with your GW2 install location:
    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” /clientport 80
  • Hit OK after making this change.

I don’t think it’s GW2 I remember it from. That’s what’s bugging me. I KNOW I know it but I can’t remember WHERE!

The greatsword kind of reminds me of a greatsword from Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

So to be clear, have you already:

  1. Cleared the GW2 Game Cache
  2. Ran a repair cycle on your game client
  3. Set the game to “Run As Admin”
  4. Disabled any overlay programs (MSI Afterburner, etc)
  5. Made sure your game shortcut is not using the -nopatchui command line argument
  6. Have tried adding the /clientport 80 command line argument to the shortcut
  7. Made sure your Adobe Flash is up to date
  8. Checked your Control Panel > Internet Options > Connection settings and made sure to disable any Proxy Setting that may be enabled there
  9. Tried deleting your local.dat file found at:
    “\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2” (though this isn’t normally associated with fixing TP problems)

(Before someone responds stating that it could take 72 hours, etc and be patient, that is already stated, known and expected. However, I’m replying in regards to the supposed handling of refunds in the order in which they are received and how one refund ticket can remain without a response for 8 hours while another requesting the same refund for the same item can be received and refunded in under 10 minutes while it was likely filed long after the one without a response for 8 hours was. Are they not actually handled in the order they are received?)

maybe a stupid question but… is there no way to track or check ticket after you submit it? I see nothing to indicate I submitted one.

After you hit the submit button the page should change. What you’ll now see is a bunch of stuff about anti-phishing and other stuff…but if you look closely at the top there is a very small line of light-colored text saying your ticket number and that your support request was submitted. You should also receive an email at the email address you entered about your ticket being received and that it’ll be addressed as soon as possible. If you do not see this email in your inbox then you may want to check your spam/junk box and see if it was placed into there. If it is in there then you should mark it as not being junk/spam so future emails will be routed to your inbox instead of to your junk folder.

So how does this refund work? I bought the original skin and now have the new skin on my character (I’m not too thrilled with it being a reskin of feathered). Someone in the main forum said they got a refund but still got to keep the new skin on their character. Granted I’m not sure how valid that is, but if that is the case I want to explore that option. I won’t lie it would be nice to keep it and get my gems back since what I originally purchased was removed.

I’ve requested my refund, though I’m still awaiting a response so I cannot corroborate the cited individual’s statement of receiving a refund and keeping the new armor.

As an aside, even if that is the case, I will be transmuting over them as soon as I get my refund as I can’t stand even looking at them. It would also be nothing but a reminder of the situation every time I saw their icons as they didn’t even bother to make new ones that actually reflect the design of new skin; they are still the original flamekissed icons.

Was in Harathi Hinterlands on Eredon Terrace and was having non-stop 5-15 seconds for each skill to activate or my movements to register. Has been going on for about 50 minutes straight now. Not all that fun fighting champ centaurs and hordes of their friends when everything you’re seeing on screen is 15 seconds out of date. Can’t play like that so guess it’s something else for a while until this gets sorted out.

The previous character slot sale was January 3rd or 4th and was a last minute kind of belated New Year sale. I think you can expect another character slot sale to be offered sometime in March, possibly April.

QoL improvement - Keybind consumables?

Interesting. Being able to bind keys to each of the first 5 slots of your first bag or something could be quite useful for food, minis and toys (balloon, krytan torch, musical instrument, etc).

I’d really love a keybind to clear target (de-select current target) too…
How can we still not have that?

The latter portion of this thread discusses the issue with Gaile Gray (she needs a pay raise for always being the one to deal with these types of things – looking at you flamekissed).

From what I can tell, we are basically left with:

  • Point out the exact place you saw us state that you’ll never need to buy another pick again or we won’t do anything and everything continues on and we’ll sell whatever we want even if many people do not like the direction we’re taking the gem store to boost sales despite the potential obsolescence of previously sold and purchased items or how close to or how far across the pay-to-win line we go (in all definitions of the term). However, even if you do find where we said that, we may find a way around that wording to where we don’t need to refund or add anything to any items and you can bet there will be future items with this (and worse) style of marketing applied to them as well.

Those are my words. I’m not quoting anyone directly, though that is the feeling I took away from what was actually written in that thread.

Basically…it’s over. They seem, not only fine with this new direction, but surely have intentions of pushing this style of marketing even further despite many being against it. Do not expect an official response in this thread or other related threads regarding this subject (and likely any future subjects related to gem store products ‘seeming to cross the line’).
