For whatever reason I feel that the LS was content that was meant to keep the playerbase interested in the game while in secret they were working on a boxed expansion.
I hope that this is the case because an expansion is exactly what this game need, bigtime.
People have been clamoring for new zones to explore, new classes, dungeons etc and while some of the LS has delivered this, we still need a large boxed expansion to avoid stagnation.

The platforms are provided with players in a poker style. So… there were players in that platform, they just probably died and went to the Waypoint nearby in the first 30 seconds. Result: when you look in the second 31, you think there was nobody there.
I sincerely hope that is the case.

So I was in an overflow server today(lane3) and it seemed that we were doing well when we all noticed that one pad(pad1) had noone on it besides the NPC.
How is this fair? The NPC died and we failed our chain. I have a screen but it isn’t of the best quality

Try doing the event in an overflow with 20 people. It doesn’t scale and is doomed to failure. Why bother? The event needs to be instanced.

Hey Josh,
The biggest, most frustrating, most baffling issue with Wurm is the overflow system. I was just in an overflow on BG(one of the larger server populations) and we had about 20 people try to kill Crimson. We knew we couldn’t get all of them, why try right? We did the escorts and failed miserably without a single burn. The event just doesn’t scale. AT ALL. 20 champs running around one shotting the 4 people that stayed, since the others realized the this was an exercise in futility.
Is this the way that GW2 is going to progress with open world events? Be in a maxed out server, or wait a few hours afk to get a chance to do content?
You guys really need to look hard at what the overflow system is doing to the playerbase and make a change or changes asap.
I would recommend having an overflow system like GW1 did with districts so people who are not in the main server can at least organize.
Either way, the current meta of Wurms is: Unless you’re on a large,full, main server, you have little to no chance at completing the content, which will lead to people not even bothering.

Hi,
my current load time is about two minutes. That is when I start the game and the game makes initial load to LA. Subsequent area changes are faster (half a minute).
Would an SSD help in faster loading?

I have ran GW2 from a Sata2 and Sata3 SSD as well as a Sata3 HDD and “drum roll”, yes the game loads much faster. Hope you invest in kitten, they are amazing and I will not go back

Anet needs to find a balance between making the items themselves rare enough to be valuable and yet still reward the players for their time and work.
It is pretty apparent(from most people that play) that the rewards in GW2 are lackluster and essentially boring.
While I agree that the Karka chest was a reward that was worth the time and effort, it was also a one time event and as such made the reward viable.
The token system is a good idea but, my feeling is that Wurms will eventually be like Tequatl and done daily. Be prepared to see the minis and items available to drop in price as people get better at doing the event.
I do feel bad for people that received greens only from the kill, I mean that is pretty bad. Perhaps a guaranteed rare or two would make the event i bit more rewarding.

We tried really hard to get this in. Every solution we came up with had technical constraints.
Why not take the invisible walls down between platforms so that the adjacent plats that are done can at least help out the ones in trouble? I know this is possible because on one of my early attempts at marionette my platform finished early and so I thought “hey, why not help the guys next to me out” so I started blasting the boss on the platform next to me. It WORKED. I was actually hitting and damaging their boss. I actually thought this was normal and was very surprised the next time I went in and couldn’t help the platform next to me. I suppose it was a bug, but obviously a good one.
There are a handful of skills that do work on the platform next to yours. Guardian staff auto attack and Elementalist Scepter #2 attack (in fire attunement) Dragon Tooth are two that I know of right now. You can also try to give aoe buffs to the people on the platform next to you.
I am expecting either a nerf or a buff for this If they decide to nerf it then I will be severely disappointed. If they buff it, then kudos to Anet.

I would love to see the data on how many overflow servers have beaten the event compared to main servers.
I still haven’t beaten it yet since I am constantly stuck in a low pop overflow. Perhaps tweaking the balance for overflows when the lanes get to go to the platforms?
Overall it is a fun event and best of all, it is fun. Anet has been doing a good job lately of stopping massive zergs and making the players form smaller groups to achieve a goal. Well done so far.

You are mostly correct. The problem is that the average skill set of players in the game is not very high. I don’t get how it is even possible to get downed on the phase 2 platforms. The circle comes up, and dodge out of it. I’ve never been in a group that has not beaten our platform. So, why do so many platforms fail?
These types of open world events are not a good idea. It just spawns too much hatred within the community towards each other.
The one platform where the champ spawns bombs will one shot you sometimes if you melee. I don’t know if the circle is unseeable because of the particle effects(another can of wurms ) or if it is intentional.

I am in BG and basically if you’re in an overflow that doesn’t look like it will kill all 3, everyone pretty much just kills crimson. I mean c’mon, is this what Anet envisioned these big meta events to be? Intentional fails because the overflow system is awful?
I love the events and the content itself is great! But, we need a better overflow system OR make these events instanced.
Tried about 10 times to kill Marionette in BG(overflow of course!) and have failed every time.

In the never ending quest to improve our design and find ways to please as many people as possible we’re always digging into constructive criticism. We have not perfected the recipe for an open world boss event, probably because we’re pioneering new territory here.
I agree that the open world boss event isn’t perfect and needs work but it is still very good.
As far as I can tell there are a couple challenges we are trying to overcome. First, we are trying to teach the community a new skill: self organization. And I’m happy to see that in the aggregate, they ARE learning. I’m sure as this process continues we will find better ways to accommodate the communication structures that will emerge.
The problem with the event is that it is open world and self organization, especially in overflows is difficult not only with the tools ingame but the need for TS to function.
Secondly, from both a technical and player-experience perspective, it’s best to break up zergs as much as possible. Thematically keeping everyone feeling like they are contributing to a common cause from multiple locations, and still feel heroic is an interesting challenge to balance. Always looking for new ideas on this issue!![]()

GJ on that and keep it up.distribute players by parceling them out one platform at a time like a poker dealer rather than selecting platforms for them randomly? Really? As a programmer myself I was astonished when I found out that it was possible to have 5 on one platform and 1 on another. I mean, this is really basic stuff!
Having 5 on one platform and 1 on another could only be a very edge case requiring several people to drop out at the right moment. Our script does exactly what you said, poker dealer style.
An issue that I have is not having enough people to kill the champs. I have gotten one shotted from the bomb champ many times lol. Better explanation or mechanics and scaling is needed.let people on platforms who have already completed help out with other platforms

Easy technical solution, make the players randomly teleport into another circle when they defeat their own.You can have that one for free

The timers and mob HP were balanced and rebalanced several times in an attempt to find a sweet spot that would ensure people couldn’t faceroll the event, but wasn’t so difficult that no one could do it. Everyone’s mileage will vary. And as with any group activity, virtual or real life, there is luck inherent in that. Some people hate that dynamic and some love it. If someone has an idea about how to ameliorate the inherent luck factor in group events, please speak up!
I think that the timers are ok but perhaps should be adjusted for people in the map(event circle?)make it easier for parties to be in the same overflow where there’s actually enough people to win

This is the biggest problem that is plaguing the game and the open world group event. Not only is a solution needed for overflows but communication tools inside the game.have the event scale in difficulty based on the number of players
It scales quite a bit. The more people there are in a lane will change the number of vets and champs that spawn, and the platform boss’s HP scales based on how many end up on the platform.
The scaling outside the chains is ok. I haven’t mentioned the wurms really since they are their own can of “wurms”

The main problem with these is that they’re scaled for large zergs to do them, they haven’t been scaled down. We’re currently attempting the wurm with 7 people to each location, and failing miserably because too many champs are being spawned too often, and we’re getting far too many mobs than we can handle. This needs to be scaled down, BADLY.
It won’t be though. Anet won’t scale Tequatl and I will bet they won’t scale this either.

Create overflow districts that can be selectable like Guild Wars 1. That way you can meet people from your guild/friends in a predetermined district.

I have a relatively powerful system and I still get loading lags, even with a Solid State Drive(SSD is a swear word?)
I like difficult content and I like the Tequatl encounter but I still think that Anet is reaching for too much.
Trying to get 100s of people together in an open world Meta to do coordinated tasks with very little tools is a difficult task.
I feel bad for small server populations.
This is another example of Anet creating content that their engine cannot handle.
I am sure that eventually we will be able to kill the wurms with about as much difficulty as Teq on BG but that is BG.
If/When Anet decides to make all meta bosses like this, people in lower population servers will not even bother.
I do teq about once a month because I dont find it rewarding and I have to sit afk in the main server for over an hour.
I will bet that this becomes the same as Teq. Large guilds will only do the raid with TS and coordination while small guilds/servers will never even get to enjoy the content.
Anet really needs to think about the overflow system with this type of open world raiding.

I know one thing for certain: I would walk away from this game.
I play the game as I see fit and not as how other people demand I play (LF Tank! LF Healer!). The lack of a trinity has been a good thing. it means that I can roll whatever build I wish and use my own skills to advance through the game, rather than rely on stats and other people to back me up.
If I wanted to play a WoW clone, i would already be playing one of the many clones out there. I don’t. I want to play GW2.
Because all that time being saved looking for a healer or tank is better spent looking at timers countdown while afk in LA…

Nerf to berzerker is something that can be done now, but other changes will follow. They take longer to program but Anet is already working on those changes. You can see some changes to AI in the newer enemies to begin with.
The toxic alliance members rez each other, some dodge, they react much more strongly than other foes.
But all these changes take time.
I agree that the new monsters rezzing and dodging are a new and welcome addition. My problem is that I am jaded with Anet’s timeframe. Releasing time gated expensive BiS armor and nerfing a well used meta is just terrible timing on their part.
If they ever fix conditions and healing/toughness it would require not only a rework of boss AI but the mechanics of the game’s combat. I highly doubt that they will do this anytime soon.
I remember GW1 when AOE’s would cause the AI to scatter, which caused issues to mob control. Something akin to this is needed in GW2 which would allow a buff to CC in order to mitigate. More thinking and tactics besides stack n smack is required for GW2.

If the issue was that people are steamrolling content then perhaps make the content more engaging and difficult. Buff the NEED for healing and toughness. The mechanics of GW2 are what the real issue is.
That, of course, would require too much work so do the easy thing and nerf dps.

Server hopping? I am guessing you weren’t actually there …
Also no hopping necessary. The “extra” came from when they tried to fix the issue with people participating but didn’t get credit because disconnects and other problems.
No there were people in my old server that were moving to other servers that still had the event going on. Since, at that time, there was no fee for switching servers, some people got 3 chests. One from initial event, one from server hop and one from Anet screw up. To Anet’s credit though, they fixed the issue very fast when they realized what was going on.

So when they added ascended gear (something most people were against and it went against the core ideals of the game), it has caused an issue in which too much damage is being done with crit gear, so now they need to undo the damage that everyone pointed out long before it became one.

What I think it will be is that crit damage will now be ferocity.
So for Example a Celestial Pearl Broadsword would have +79 ferocity instead of +10 crit.
Over all I am not sure how much of a difference that makes but I believe that all +crits will basically be reduced by 10%.

I think they meant 10% overall damage on full stacks and not just 10% for crit but I could be wrong. I can tell you right now, that I WILL not craft any ascended weapons or armor for this game with the constant nerf shadow hanging over my head.
Equipping a fully ascended(zerk or otherwise) character with rings, trinkets, weapons and armor is a massive gold and time sink. When you nerf or tinker with the inherent stats of the items that people GRIND for, they will be very very upset.

GW2 has pretty much evolved to a DPS only gamestyle. What is a dev counter??? Nerf the DPS instead of making the combat mechanics more diverse. Just terrible. If they nerf Zerker to oblivion without making other builds more viable, I can see myself taking a break

How about a buff for toughness,conditions and healing?? GW2 is all about DPS. So, instead of altering the mechanics of the broken combat of GW2 they lower the DPS of the main build that people use. That is irrational…and lazy game development.

The game will never run well. Ever. Unless we get a CPU running stable at about 6ghz, the game will run the same for it’s longevity. There was a post from a dev about 5 months ago or so regarding performance and that it would be looked at. It hasn’t. I, as well as many others have given up.
Vol, don’t waste your money getting an upgrade. Your CPU is fine. The game cant handle the content and ALL cpu’s will eventually bottleneck.

Nerfing zerker to the point of uselessness will not only make people in full ascended zerker gear rage quit, but it will also bring other problems as mentioned by other posters.
I, myself feel that if they nerf zerker I will probably not play anymore. Why grind for months to get BiS gear that is going to be useless by some future nerf?

I feel that GW2 is stagnant right now and unless a massive update or expansion comes out it will remain that way.
I feel that GW2 lacks synergy, engaging story, and interesting mechanics.

I feel that GW2 is the most single player MMO I have played.

Since gear is attributed to stats I rarely change my build at all. Some havn’t changed since launch for certain characters. Although, for those that like to mess around and have money to have different sets of armor and trinkets etc I could see this being handy.

I like most of the armor in GW2 and I am very critical of this game.
The texture quality is quite good and I think that there is pretty much something for everyone.
The only gripe I have with GW2 armor is the massive amount of clipping.
