Go to an area that has no water or reflective surfaces and stare at the ground. Proceed to play with the reflections. You will see some interesting results. Umbra is garbage
I don’t think GW2 is just the best looking MMO out there, it is in it’s own league. There isn’t a single MMO I would mention in the same sentence as this game, as far as graphics go.
I’m studying graphics from the perspective of CS (so the technical, not artistic, side). The thing that still gets me is this game’s support of reflections and detailed bump maps. I don’t know of any other MMO that even tries to support reflections on any level. And no other MMO has the sort of detailed textures and bump maps that this game has.
I can only imagine how much work went into the graphics, just to make it all run at a decent framerate. There is stuff in this game that just hasn’t been done in MMO’s before.
Decent framerate is subjective. GW2 is fantastic looking but I am still waiting for our big performance update that was promised. It is also too bad that most people cant run the aforementioned reflections since they are such a pig on resources.

I play with supersampling and everything maxed and I agree that GW2 is by far the best looking MMO out there. Terra is pretty good but GW2 with Sweet FX is just amazing looking. Too bad the gameplay can’t equal the graphics
If there is a battle for LA it will be a massive zerg lagfest for 20 minutes then a cutscene then perhaps everyone goes back to the Queensdale zerg train…
The infusions are the risk we cannot judge at the moment. Will Arenanet continue the vertical progression via infusions? What will be the “high level” infusions that were mentioned by Linsay Murdock in the blog post dealing fractals and ascended items?
If we see a vertical progression via infusions beyond AR then ascended items will be highly demanded for several aspects of the game.
We will cross that bridge when we come to it.

That is a bigtime problem with Ascended gear as a whole. People can’t afford to change their builds when the time/gold sink of acquiring the BIS gear is so great. Compound that issue with the inevitable future nerf of builds and there can be a huge problem.
I have not gone past 400 in most crafting disciplines and I will not craft a ascended weapon. I am contemplating crafting a set of heavy for my main but, reading all these posts it seems that my money could be better spent elsewhere. Not to mention I would need 6 transmutation stones…..

Baldur’s Gate was redone as an Enhanced Edition. Well worth playing again or playing for the first time if you never had a chance to play one of the best RPG’s ever made

Actually, Eternity is missing three effects that Twilight and Sunrise both have already. The burst which occurs when the weapon is drawn, the projectile effects when throwing the Weapon (ex. Guardian spin, Warrior blade trail, Mesmer mirror blade), and downed weapon effects.
All of these effects work on Twilight and Sunrise, but are nonexistent on Eternity. There is a forum post from a developer noting that the projectile effects are on the tracker. Whether or not the drawn burst and downed abilities are being fixed is a mystery. A dev response to this noting that all of these issues are at least on the tracker to be fixed in the future would help to set those of us with the weapon at ease.
Which is exactly why I won’t craft it. I have Twilight and I like the effects of the weapon more than actually wanting Eternity. I don’t expect it to be fixed anytime in the near future.
There isnt much of a point in used the lvl 79 ones when leveling. I have many alts and have probably 100 of them in storage. If we could toss them in the forge then maybe that would help the issue.
Its physically impossible for them to development content at a rate to keep everyone perpetually entertained. It takes well over 100 man hours, which can’t all be simultaneously, to make roughly an hour of relatively bug free entertainment for the average speed player.
Funny how GW1 never had that much of an issue. I was perpetually entertained in that game.
So we just let Anet give us terribad LS every few weeks and smile, grind and be happy that we are getting shoddy content?
When a new MMO comes out that has engaging content, not written for 7 year olds then perhaps it might make the devs wake up.
Should we keep doing the same content for 7 years? Zerg this while in zerker gear with different baddies for 7 years? Because that is what it feels like.
At this point in time I am not even certain that people would even buy an expansion considering what GW2 had done with the core game.
If GW1 was active and people did runs like DoA, FoW, UW etc then I would do it. As it stands right now I login to GW2, do AC1/3 and logout. The game for me has become stagnant after 1.5k hours.
In GW1 we had expansion, new classes, skills, dungeons etc and it kept the game fresh and interesting. In GW2 it is pretty much the same content rehashed with a different paint job on it. Zerg this monster for AP, next week Zerg this new monster for AP etc.
The core gameplay in GW1 was 100% more involved and interesting than GW2. I had to think and use tactics as well as my teammates in GW1, In GW2 I either zerg or zerk. No thought, no tactics besides stacking.
GW2 gameplay reminds me of Ursan from GW1 which was pretty terribad and in the end got the ban hammer.
If I could play GW1 like it was before GW2 was released(ie larger playerbase) I 100% would.
Tried Story Mode and lol’d when we wiped. Putting a WP in story mode is just common sense. Back to the best game ever made Baldurs Gate 2…which is 14 years old and a better game than GW2 will ever be.
The game feels one dimensional, at least in PvE. All content feels the same, no matter what class you play.
How to play any class in GW2 PvE:
Get berserker armor. You will be more or less useless if you do not specc for direct damage. Most damage is done by auto-attack, take the weapon with the highest auto-attack damage for melee. Dodge in between. Done.
It is hard to not have one shallow combat when every class is the same. In a game where there’s no tanks, no control, no healers there’s only one thing left; and that is DPS.
In this game the AR of enemies is fair, but their healthpool is very high, making it only good with direct damage. And that’s why the meta is warriors; they have the highest DPS in the game.
The combat is shallow and that’s why everything feels the same. Everyone has only one thing to do; watch yourself. There’s no team play in this game, just group play.

I agree 100% with the shallow combat and lack of synergy with players. Why would I not go dps? Combos are random and not planned. Zerg and dodge are mechanics for the entire game. One shots make healing and toughness builds non viable. I can do events while going afk. I don’t even have to think when playing.
Yes, but by the time NCSoft started actually exerting its influence on ANet, GW was established, and it was too late for them to ruin it, although the evidence was there that they tried to turn it into Korean-style cash shop nightmare just like we have now.
Agreed, although I bought every costume from the store in GW1 and never felt wrong in doing so. In GW2 I feel like the gemstore is like a shady auto dealer trying to hustle me.
GW2 doesn’t have the epicness that GW1 had.
GW2 doesn’t have the story depth that GW1 had.
GW2 doesn’t have the customization that GW1 had.
GW2 doesn’t have the difficulty curve that GW1 had.
GW2 doesn’t have the diversity of dungeons and content that GW1 had.

Time gated content and zerg style gameplay was the exact opposite of what GW1 was. Ursan anyone?
They need to get their heads out of their quaggans or I feel the new titles will make GW2 slowly disappear into the mists.
The zerg run up the tower was pretty bland but I did like the mini instances, those were fun.
The end instance as well was fairly fun although, not very difficult.
For the record I ran my zerker up the whole tower and didn’t have any issues.
A PvE preset and a WvW preset for graphical settings would be nice, but then again so would playing the game with everything cranked and getting good fps
So this last patch introduced some performance patches server side and I am wondering if I am the only one that hasn’t noticed it yet. I play in BG and during the initial zerg my fps were still not that great.
Anet is still working on performance issues apparently but I do feel bad for the OP. I went from a X6 1055t oc to 3.5 to my current rig and I am glad that I did. Anet really blundered when they decided to use the GW1 engine and modify it instead of using a modern engine that supports threading more efficiently. The addition of DX11 would also have been nice for ALL users but, alas this will never happen as well.
It has been months since we have heard anything about performance and since I doubt that we will ever see a noticeable performance gain anytime soon it is best just to deal with the limitations of the engine as it stands.
I find myself playing less and less and getting more annoyed with the terrible frames that everyone gets in high population encounters(zergs).
The 9590 is interesting for those that do anything but game and I doubt that many of those chips will sell.
The i5 4670k is a great CPU for GW2. Make sure to get a good aftermarket cooler for overclocking as well as a mid to high end motherboard.
The GTX 460 isnt too bad for GW2 but most people point out that the GTX 660ti is a good “go to” GPU for the game. It all boils down to your budget of course

Time gated content limits the way I want to play
Rewards are lack luster
LS is beyond boring and poorly written
The same Meta events after a year, even with the changes are still boring
Dungeons are time gated but that is really the only thing that I do now, when I do log in.
Too bad since I spent 10k Hours in GW1 and never really got bored. GW2 just doesn’t have the moxie that the original had.
Just think it some kind of mysterious tower appeared somewhere near a populated area in the U.S. Would we immediately nuke it before we knew anything about it?

I really don’t care about this update either. I probably won’t even bother with the next one either since it will be zerg but this time inside a tower. Tri Key for two greens and a blue and a crappy mini.
Get the H100i I have loved it since I built this rig and in push/pull I get about 70c load and 29c idles at 1.36v for 4.5ghz.
Yes the 7 series is worth it since your future proofing for next gen console ports. Devs will start writing games designed for multithreading(like BF4 etc).
I agree you might want to wait until BF for some deals
I never had to buy case fans for my HAF since they came with it and they work ok.
The systems that Solar and Fermi both look good. I would myself get the larger PSU since you never know if you might SLI someday.
Currently 4gb vram IS overkill for 1080p and probably won’t be necessary for many years to come.
Anet, the only MMO developer that removes content from their game.
It is all perspective. Look at other mmo’s and how there is so much unused content. Everyone already been there and done that. Taking this tower for an example, they leave it in for 2-4 weeks. We spend those weeks playing the kitten out of it, then it goes away. That lends itself to give the LS a feeling of it being living. It was defeated, and now its it no longer exists.
It keeps things from getting boring and then ignored. Which we all know, happens with all content. They give it to us, take it away and give us something new, then some time down the road they give it back to us in an altered state to keep it fresh and interesting.
Or they could leave the content there permanent, scrap the entire notion that Living Story = Content must be removed, and give players more things to do than they can shake a stick at.
It’s actually painful at how fast people are to defend Anet’s idea that their Living Story concept of adding temporary content is somehow innovative and, even worst, a good, cool idea.
Yes, sometimes MMO Developers do remove content from the game when they feel it fits the storyline, but never to the extent that Anet does with each passing update. Think about it, if Anet actually left in the content (barring holidays, obviously) instead of constantly removing it, by now we would have had over a dozen new story missions, two full fledged new dungeons, a third mini-dungeon, an additional scalable dungeon with the Queen’s Jubilee, an entirely new meta-game they could have continued to add to with the Queen’s Gauntlet and Super Adventure Box, and an entirely new zone in the form of the Zepyhr Sanctum along with the Challenge Mission it came with. Not to mention the various new PvP modes/Activities they’ve added over the year as well that are no longer in the game.
Instead…we have Fractals of the Mist, WvW changes, a completely dead zone, a handful of rotating activities, and a revamped world boss no one does anymore.
Remind me again why the latter is better than the former?
Every chip is different. I have a dud that needs extreme LLC to boot 4.5 with crappy voltage. It just depends on the lottery and the board. There have been many users experiencing system lag lately, myself included. I get the feeling it is the devs messing with stuff
