At least for me the answer is no aoe cap.
An organized small team could wipe out a random zerg on daoc, in gw2 that’s simply not possible and fights end up being numbers vs numbers.
That is effectively impossible for a variety of reasons. It would be far easier (and far more beneficial to the engine) to completely remove AoE or at the very least chop the number of AoE skills down immensely. AoE is actually one of the banes of performance in GW2.

There is virtually no way for us users to know what would take a day to implement. Development is a tricky business and modifying code might seem trivial but the change can often involve a lot of effort. There is also the longer time commitment of QA/QC. A dev might be able to crap it out in 5 minutes but it could take a day or longer of testing.
Without having access to the code, there is no way for someone to know what will be a quick change or fix and what isn’t.

You should consider taking the YB university course to defense! For a mere 1800 gems you can transfer to YB and experience hands on effective defensive and counter siege placement.
This might be letting out some secret sauce but DTC Justice compiled a very comprehensive guide for WvW. It is on the BP forums and while a bit outdated still a very good read.

Dog pile on the Anet guy! Actually I just wanted to correct a word for you:
As has been mentioned a multitude of times previously, our developers read the forums as much as they are able, but time prevents them from responding to everything they read.

“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
- DAoc could handle 500 players at a go, Anet should refine their code to increase the cap
They would have to gut the combat system and go back to static based system like the old style MMOs. Way fewer AoEs, no fields, less positional combat and a completely different condition system. DAoC and the like were effectively text based combat engines with graphics. The messaging and math were staggeringly simple by comparison to GW2.
That said GW2s auto-targeting doesn’t leverage their graphical and movement engine well.

If you solo roam don’t go to T2, T2’s roaming consists of 10ish players roaming around in packs nuking down 1’s and 2’s. Go on Twitch and look for FA,SOS, or MAG streamers and you will see what i’m talking about. Pretty much any server below T3 will be better for solo roaming. I personally think T3 is a nice balance, but it does get blobby here and there. So T4-6 might be a better option. Good luck wherever you go!
I roam and skirmish in T2 every day (haven’t missed a daily in over a year) and can say the roaming is great in T2. You will see packs of players but usually they are hanging around doing pickup fights in the usual locations. My small guild was worried when we moved up but all of us are glad we did. Better fights and more skilled roamers.
The truly impressive part to me is T2 at least on Mag has less commanders than any server I have ever been on. NA Prime might have 1 or 2 across all maps. Most players here expect pocket fighting rather than zerg on zerg fights. Lots of GvG action of all sizes too. It is a smorgasbord of action.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
The best way is to tag up and raid with your guild in eternal battleground. Once pugs are following your tag be successful with fights and start advertising your guild to em.
This is the best way. Effective WvW commanders don’t need to ask for sign ups they get plenty of players asking to join.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
The upcoming changes will make roaming rangers in WvW more competitive but the ugly truth for this class still remains, it cannot specialize in anything that a GvG group wants or needs and still be effective. It has a couple bright spots marred by a lot of lackluster traits, skills and effectiveness.
Still it is good to see ANet buffing the least effective WvW class.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
There are hackers around but they are a relatively minor nuisance. The bugs and lack of any meaningful changes to WvW over nearly two years has been the real problem. At this point, I am pretty convinced ANet is just going to let WvW die on the vine so to speak.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Thanks for the comments; Does this seem okay (http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJEQNBMhJakpjqQ78wyDORDUFUIX8AQZPEEpPhXIFA-T1CBwA5U/RpSsFm4wq8AwRAolegUaCqu/wElgMeEAbOBAkBgZCA-w)? Is armor a bit too low and are those proper traits do you think? Thanks
Some prefer going 30 in Discipline giving up Cleansing Ire for Burst Mastery so they can pick up more Earthshakers, but in my experience it is slicing hairs a bit. I will say Merciless Hammer is probably a better pick of a zerg build despite the awesomeness of Cleansing Ire. Lastly I like the ease of Warrior’s Sprint but Inspiring Shouts is hard to pass up particularly since you will have speed up virtually all the time.
You will want a stability skill. Balanced Stance is going to be far more effective than Berzerker IMO. Also Battle Standard is a near must have for a zerg build. Signet of Rage is generally more useful but Battle Standard will turn entire fights.
PVT gear all the way. Your job in the zerg is control, healing and condi removal not DPS. Putting on zerk gear is compromising a lot of survivability for a minimal amount of DPS. Leave the damage to the EN in GWEN or build a DPS warrior zerg spec.
Consider the axe rather than the sword main hand. They both have their advantages and sword is tried and true (particularly for escape) but Eviscerate and Cyclone are both combo finishers.

Seriously after 2 years with only a few good builds per class who is gonna read the tool-tips? Fix the useless traits and skills first, then fix the tool-tips.
Because one requires testing and hours of work and the other takes a few minutes and makes it look like something is being done.
A brief look into the ANet WvW developer team:
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
The Veteran Scouts are the problem with melee. It is important to group them together so you can HB through their blind fields. Otherwise they will have you missing through half the fight.
Almost every camp has a grouping spot where you can run in and force the scouts to run into your melee range. Usually you can stand behind a building, pole or terrain. Once they run to you the sup will use his knockdown and the guards will bull rush for a stun so use stability about 3-4s into the fight. At half health pop invuln. The rest is just pounding them until they are dead.
Upgraded camps are trickier with all the pulls but same principal.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Come to T2. Some of the best roamers and great small fights all around. I was a die hard T4-T6 roamer/skirmisher for the first year and a half of WvW but that action has moved to T2.
Course this morning T2 was a ghost town (about 10 of us across all maps) so I cannot imagine what T3 and lower must have looked like.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
T1 and T2 are about zergs and havoc groups. You don’t go there to roam.
There is a lot of roaming in T2 or probably better stated “pickup fights”. There aren’t a lot of 1v1 fights but lots of small pocket fighting all over. Get in a a 1 on 1 and there is a good chance that players wandering by will stay and watch the show rather than join in.
There are still zergs but none of the servers tend to ball up and only zerg. To top it off, some of the “roamers” in this tier are the best I have fought for nearly two years across T2-T6. Seems we have distilled T2 WvW into a significant population of hardcore highly skilled players.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I don’t think there is anyway this ever makes it into the game. From the jump, WvW was meant to be a PvP system using PvE earned gear. sPvP was created for class balance. Bringing that to WvW would likely drive out most players that spent a ton of time and money earning equipment.
Even if the player base as a whole wanted it, ANet has seemingly abandoned any large scale WvW changes.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Did at least some of you noticed that we (or some rather “loud” of us) are the reason why we have worser forum rules and no developer interaction anymore?
Ignoring the user base and posting threats is a great way to calm down forums.
ANet used to have a lot of defenders but most have either left or came to the dark side. What lives here now is mostly their own doing and not from a handful of typical forum trolls.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Congrats on ANet finding the worst possible way to handle necro’ing. If it is that much of a problem for ANet, they should simply remove replies to 30+ day old threads and stop threatening their user base.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
seasons… that was, is and probably will be the plan. Most vets would say it doesn’t work though.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
ANet has essentially stopped taking requests, bug fixes and the like so chances of this getting addressed are near zero.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Y’all some hardcore roamers. You guys make me feel every bit of my 40+ years just a bit too fast for me.
Hats off… hopefully you read this before it gets deleted.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Funny but not “cool” camping N camp with a guild group if that is what you were doing.
…
also we resupplied and left after… i hope you will be able to sleep today:P
Which is why I included that last part of my sentence “IF THAT IS WHAT YOU WERE DOING”. Some guild groups actively ambush PUGs at N camp which is an kitten thing to do. Since you weren’t no need to get defensive.
As I said It is a funny video regardless.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Yep. I was rank 892 when I got my first ascended.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
While I think Guild Halls should be in the game, it would likely kill off WvW as we know it. GW1 had one of the best GvG systems and it is a shame they didn’t bring that over with GW2. Same engine so we know it is both possible and probably not a massive change.
Unfortunately we also know how resistant they have been to GvG changes even getting caught in game stating their disdain for GvG. Their employee being recorded disrupting a GvG match is the sole reason OS was changed to be more GvG friendly.
Then of course we have the far more obvious issue of no meaningful WvW patches in months. ANet has abandoned the WvW forums and unless they have a slew of stealth patches in the works WvW development has been abandoned as well.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”

T1 or T2. I wouldn’t even consider another tier as they are relatively inactive by comparison. WvW populations are WAY down. T2 rarely queues a map. I would say T2 is where T4-T5 pops were a year ago.
Mag essentially score fixes to keep FA and Mag in the same tier since this matchup is pretty even excluding SoS overnight. If we start falling behind, several of the guild groups log in and play PPT. When it is close, they mostly do open field fights.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Been a bug since release like so many others. I would not count on a fix… ever.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Fridays are likely going to be your best shot. Either just before or just after reset. Once a server gets a garrison to T3, it is usually heavily defended. Just before reset, many servers are lax on defending since it doesn’t matter. Just after everything is paper. This may not be true of the current T1 setup though.
My suggestion is to load MOS and just keep a watch on it.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I consider an escape a draw. If I don’t spike them, it doesn’t count.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Here is my suggestion:
Have a GW2 employee show up to the forums and reply in a meaningful way to some of the threads.
They may feel that “silence” from them is better than being “yelled” at from us, but they would very much be wrong.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Players should be limited on how much supply they can pull from a keep in a time period. It shouldn’t be too restrictive but enough so that one or two players cannot empty the supply quickly.
Pretty hard if everybody is defending and one or two are running supplies to shore up the walls/gates/build additional siege.
There will never be a perfect system to this problem. In this case, a couple people would have to switch roles for a few minutes. To me this limitation is much preferred over the single player draining a keep making it vulnerable to attack. Especially since it takes hours to get supplies to those levels.
This system would also help slow the draining of supply to fix walls that are actively being trebbed. How many of us have seen the “stop repairing SM walls that are being trebbed” message?
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Eventually an ever growing mob of uplevel gankers will begin spawn camping the newb area. Eschewing a fair fight in upper level zones. They prey upon new players coming in. Denying them even half a chance to level enough to offer a remotely fair fight.
When this happens we must go to the starter area and level by killing boars. If after leveling we fail, we will acquire the Sword of a Thousand Truths.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
…especially backstabbing thieves.
In the current meta, that is about all CnD thieves have left. I stopped playing my CnD when it was clear that the only effective thieves are centered around condi or picking off weak/weakened players.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Resetting a fight is a valid tactic and the cornerstone of some builds.
Why shouldn’t a highly mobile power build take advantage of an enemies inability to move quickly? Why should a warrior stand there and take a condition pounding from a slow necro abusing the current condi-bunker meta?
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Yeah but that’s sort of lazy, don’t you think. You need scouts, and by that I mean other players who are selflessly observing rather than running around on the K train.
Few players want to spend hours sitting in a tower waiting for something to happen. Many of us already have a job, why log into a game to do another?
They serve a purpose. If you have real time information about what the enemy is doing where, you can just zerg around all day to the hot spots and you aren’t really playing the game mode , are you?
Zergs exist partially because players don’t know where to get action on a map. People often follow a commander because they are generally guaranteed some action even if it is fighting a door. If friendly NPCs listed activity on the map, players would likely disperse a little to defend/engage. It won’t stop zergs but it would create more pocket fighting.
Basically WvW does a horrible job of getting players into the action. Heck most log into a map, don’t see a tag and leave. Do that on all maps then go to EotM.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Almost all old school MMOs were either outright PvP or had a PvP server. Certainly would get my vote.
Not sure the modern MMO player would be interested. Seems most MMO players want to be spoon fed quests and avoid anything with a death penalty.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
When one of the most if not the most used foods in the game are condition removal based for non-condi classes, there is a problem with condition duration and it isn’t that they are too short.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”

IMO ANet should take the top 5 and bottom 5 runes and tweak them. Same with sigils.
These runes are powerful but not game breaking at least not on their own.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
With the release in China WvW fell one more notch in their priority list and it shows.
My suggestion is to take this update lull and try other games. I would start with Left for Dead 2 and Divinity Original Sin… both great co-op games.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
The map sucks IMO. Long runs, easy to get knocked off, tons of NPCs and somewhat difficult to navigate with a multitude of choke points. The place is a roamer/skirmisher disaster.
Ultimately they built a fine zerg map… and it gets zerged almost exclusively.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I don’t think we need more PvE in our WvW. What would be nice though is if the current NPCs lit up on the map with relative enemy strength when they see incoming enemies.
This would help focus players on open field fights and defending.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
WvW needs an overhaul as the game play has become really stale. I don’t know if Megaserver is the right answer until I try it but I am very glad to be in a tier that has relatively equal servers fighting. That is MUCH more important to me than which server I am fighting with.
At the end of the day, I just want good fights.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
If roaming, the Achilles heel of this build is condi bunker fights. You also have virtually no escape mechanism.
Might be OK in skirmish.
Fine in zergs but not very zerg friendly.
Oddly I would drop Merciless Hammer and pick up the second Invuln. I like Merciless Hammer but I love Cleansing Ire which is one of the few ways a direct damage warrior can stay in a condi fight.
Another possibly interesting change is to drop the Warhorn, pick up Warrior’s Sprint and switch to a shield or mace offhand but that is changing the focus a bit.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
The RNG in GW2 is bugged. There are some players that do not see anything from chests. I was rank 860 before my first ascended. I have now gone 200 ranks without an exotic much less ascended. Never seen a precursor nor has anyone in our small guild (over 10k GW2 hours played between us).
GW2 loot SUUUCCCCKKKKKSSSSSS.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Golems should have a shelf life anyway. Mobile siege is already significantly powerful. Allowing it to be used all week is too much.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
And the condition duration decrease occurs AFTER condition duration increase has been added.
Condition duration is resolved BEFORE the final calculation. For example if player A (+150% duration) hits player B (Negative 100%) with a 5 second base Burning the result is 7.5s of burning not zero.
Adding condition duration is easier on most builds than subtracting it. A warrior has two traits that can reduce mobility conditions, Dogged March and Mobile Strikes. Neither are OP since one is a modest adjustment to duration and the other is a major trait that only effects Immobilization.
Then there is the reality of the situation… condi at least in small sized fights is ridiculously powerful right now. Any change to make it more so would be game breaking for the few direct damage builds left.

chugga-chugga-chugga-chugga-woooo-woooo KTrain coming through!
They ran you over because that is easy karma. They avoid the other side because you know… fights is hard.
My suggestion come up and visit T2. You will still see karma trains and you will certainly get run over but it will be done with the best intentions.
