I edited my post for more examples.
But yeah, we don’t have much of a pattern to follow when we deal with staff
True, but it’s almost certainly going to be some kind of ranged weapon. We already have 3 damage focused ranged weapons with 1 being the longest and hardest hitting option in the game currently.
Unless it ends up being an AoE dispenser like the Necro staff, I don’t see it being a damage focused weapon.
People are panicking really prematurely about F2P. It would not be difficult to put sensible limits on it while still allowing people a relatively unrestricted free core game. Just off the top of my head, here are some brainstormed and reasonable restrictions:
- You can only communicate with people in your guild, in your party, or people who have added you as a friend.
- You can’t send items or gold through the mail, and can only send 1 mail per hour.
- You can’t receive daily login rewards. Or maybe, you just can’t receive laurels. The other rewards are no big deal.Is there anything else that would even be necessary? Do those three things and you protect the paid players from a lot of potential abuse while also letting people get a pretty complete free-to-play experience.
What about Map overflow? With all the bots camping out at particular zones, will most of us be kick into overflow?
I think most of the areas of the game have been made somewhat bot proof* thanks to the horrendous swarms of naked Shortbow bear ranger bots back in 2012.
There will be a few places like Orr that bots will congregate, but it won’t be super widespread.
*bot proof as in they give embarrassingly bad rewards.
I could just see it.
Anet: Ok guys/gals we are going to put Engi and Druid into the beta weekend but be forewarned they have not been finished and are still completely unplayable.
Players: Both Engi and Druid need a lot of work they seem to be unplayable.
Anet: As we stated both classes are unfinished and unplayable, but you all wanted fair equal test time.
Players: I don’t get it why would you put unplayable, unfinished classes in for testing, it makes no sense, what are we suppose to test ?
Anet: Ok next Beta weekend Engi’s and Druids will be removed from testing so we can finish working on them and make them playable so testing is more accurate.
Players: WHAT ! This is BS now they don’t get as much test time, it’s unfair, I want to play Engi or Druid.
Anet: ……..
Actually the response would be:
Players: Druid and Engi are unplayable because of a,b,c,d,e,f and w/e reason.
ANet: Oh cool we could fix that.Like, you know, the revenant
Actually actually, the response would be:
Players: Druid and Engi are unplayable because of a,b,c,d,e,f and w/e reason.
ANet: Oh cool we could fix that on Engi. What’s this Ranger/Druid you speak of?
If it were actually about another upcoming trial period and that is what the “play for free” part was referencing, I’m sure someone at ANet would have stepped in here by now to say that GW2 is not going completely Free-To-Play as hinted at in that tweet and video. Their silence on the matter, considering how their players are responding to this bit of (possibly incorrect) news, is very telling.
The fact that the cat’s outta the bag on Raids probably means they will not be setting foot in here until Sunday lest they be hit with a deluge of “OMG Raids, wtf?!” or “Woo Raids! Plz gib all info nao!”
lol, that Reddit sourced leaked IGN video is suddenly “no longer available”
Me thinks this was legit and someone, somehow, dropped the ball early.
Have fun in the Raids guys. Let us Necro and Ranger players know how it went.
I saved it, just as I’m sure many, many more did.
It’ll be back up on a dozen different places in no time at all.
It buffered horribly slow for me to the point that I quit watching. They might have been in the process of taking it down at the time. All I saw was a lot of false representations of in game content (cliffside titan shown as part of an epic fight, lolwut?). Was there an announcement of free to play at the end?
TLDR: Is there any insight on what Challenging group content will be?
Be patient for 2 more days.
But that’s like 48 hours!
Ya lol. Why making this tread 2 days before they announce what Challenging group content will be. I could understand a couple of week before when we didn’t know about the 29th, but now?? Make no sense.
Well some people feel their opinions are important irregardless of surrounding context.
its going to be raids… like 99% sure…
IGN just tweeted it and deleted it within minutes lol. Messed up the reveal for anet but thats IGN for you…
Theres the deleted tweet if your interested
http://i.imgur.com/Orn2Me0.jpgUnless IGN is trolling, raids are coming.
Yeah I kinda lost faith in game journalism a long time ago… so I’m in the camp that would be suspicious if they said the sky was blue. Rather wait and see. But it seems very likely.
The tweet is now deleted and a Reddit sourced video on IGN featuring current game content is no longer available after being up some 30 minutes ago.
It feels very legit, if at least overflowing with unprofessionalism and click bait.

I think with HoT release only people who have the expansion should be able to write at forum.
It’s sickening to read for 1000th time “I don’t like specialization name or something, that’s why I’m not buying”. Don’t like – don’t buy, but stop spewing negativity. They won’t change everything to YOUR liking…
And it’s equally sickening to read for the 10000000000th time “Stop complaining on the forums, it’s making me sad!”
Pets need another justification to exsist than damage.
Agreed. But damage is now their only mechanic, we have very few pets that apply utilities and those are really bad.
?
Immobilize, fear,kd,KB,stun, might, fury, poison, healing, regen, blind, weakness, chill. I’m sure I missed some but no, dmg is not their only mechanic.
You know as well as the rest of us that acting as a separate source of damage is the pet’s only real unique mechanic. Several of the things listed can be done better by the ranger itself (poison, fury, chill) and many of them are not abilities tied to the F2 making them unreliable compared to on demand, normal skills.

LOl i laugh everytime i see the marvel charcter refrence . . .like people never have heard the term dare devil in their life.
It’s an actual word in the dictionary:
Daredevil – a reckless person who enjoys doing dangerous things.
Yes, obviously.
However, a careless thrill junkie =/= staff/baton wielding martial artist except when generally referring to the Marvel super hero and the name is alluding to the fact that he is performing actions that would be otherwise insane for a blind man to attempt.

Sorry to spoil PAX for everyone.
Even tall buff girls like to wear frilly things.
Engineer could easily be last too.
True but the “Forge” already had it’s teaser image leaked and Shaman has the rendered heledrones datamined already while our one trait didn’t even have a name at the time of leak.
They bring back the “Destiny’s Edge 2.0” gear pretty frequently. With Kas’s staff up there, it’s a good bet the rest will show up.
Is there some unwritten law that says all marriage ceremonies need someone in a tuxedo and another wearing a wedding dress? :p
Also consider the fact that the human wedding outfits are what’s worn in Christian weddings? What if someone is from a different religion? What if they’re atheist?
Shhhh these people want to practice tradition, and buck it at the same time.
“I shouldn’t have to conform to societal norms!”
“I want to wear the normal wedding attire!”
I demand Hawaiian shirts for beach weddings.
The only “complaint” I have about the wedding dress is that they could have added actual player weddings to go with it.
The wedding plaza (or what heavily looks like one) in LA will likely be used for this “soon”.
One can only hope that Anet will be finally adding in some real RP into their MMORPG after 3 years.
This thread is going to end up badly.
It already has from the first post.
I’m really thinking the OP is just a successful troll at this point.
It would be impossible to tell.

The staff is in the original teaser clip from way back. To my knowledge, we haven’t secured a data mine of the staff itself.
The shoulders have been mined however. [&C6sXAAA=]
It’s nothing I’d use, but there ya go.
It doesn’t really matter much these days with the mega server system unless you are speaking in terms of WvW presence.
ON SALE = Discount
FOR SALE = Items being soldPeople need to learn English.
Arenanet never said it’s “on sale”. They just said Anniversary Sale. This is ambiguous enough to mean both discounts and no discounts.
Feel free to list some real world examples where the term “Sale” as a limited time event wasn’t implying discounts (usually with the intent to clear room for new stock) without explicitly implying a limited run of an item itself.
Aka “Black Friday Sale” vs “U2 tickets are now on sale!”
Imagine if the Steam Summer Sale one year was simply their entire catalog available at full price, nothing more but with all the same fanfare. People would would be out for blood and worse.
Same goes for those “Year End Sales Event!” type of ads you see for car brands. Do you really think they are just saying “hey, come in to the showroom and buy a 2015 model at full price right before we put out the 2016’s for essentially the same amount”? Of course not. They may try to swindle you into paying that much but they will be explicitly advertising deals and special financing in order to clear lots for the new models.
For someone who claims others need to “learn English”, you seem to lack a basic understanding of context as well as the cultural understanding of the concept of a “sale” as a special event.

They are superb at bolstering Zergs and defending structures. They pick off and kill many stragglers.
Ele and Necro work at comparable ranges and deal so much more damage it’s not even funny. And this is all AoE ground target damage, not piercing arrows that will just get reflected by WoR, Magnetic Aura, or Mesmer dodges most of the time.
They are the mobile and quick support. And when working in numbers can provide superior long distance fire for the guardians and such.
Thieves are significantly more mobile and eles can be both incredibly mobile and damaging. See above for point 2.
Having rangers can change the tide of large scale battles and most won’t know they are the secret factor, mainly because people will say “ranger is kitten” (and thus won’t experience playing a ranger). no, they don’t have easy traits to master. But when you do. You’ll know you are the better player.
Not sure what tides the class is changing because I, almost on a nightly basis, watch BG guilds beat TC/JQ groups 2 times their size when I am literally the only ranger following the tag and the other side has half a dozen pewpew rangers.
The damage it puts out is simply too focused and requires a build that is too glassy with few “get out of jail free” skills to support it. The only reason thieves and mesmers get a pass is because thieves can effortlessly circle around and pick off stranglers and back line that fall back to recover while mesmer support in the form of portal and veil are essential for wvw.
Lets look at what the Range can bring for support.
1. Spirits – Bad enough before the mobility nerf.
2. Swiftness spam – See warrior warhorn and/or guardian symbol.
3. Regen spam – No where near potent enough to justify the amount of rangers needed to keep it up on the whole guild/zerg.
4. Spotter – A marked buff for the backline but does not offer a potent enough bonus and will not stack negating the need for more than 1 ranger even if it was.
It’s not a matter of mastering one to know it simply doesn’t outperform other classes nor does it bring anything unique to the fight.

Greatsword auto is fine. If you want GS damage spec remorselessness for +25% maul. mainhand sword is dps weapon, GS is burst utility weapon.
Mainhand sword has 66.6% of it’s skills devoted entirely to evades and only has one skill from an offhand that can realistically be considered a serious dps increase.
It’s literally only considered “the dps sword” because GS hits like a pool noodle.
If GS did more damage, your opinion would be the exact opposite.
People are fond of comparing this game to Guild Wars 1. There was very little in Guild Wars 1 that couldn’t be purchased with gold. Arguably, the hardest weapons to attain were the weapons from DOA, or maybe rare stuff like the celestial compass, the bonecage scythe, the frog scepter or the voltaic spear.
All these high end items were available to sell. You didn’t have to be great to get them. You could farm feathers in a low end zone over and over till you could afford to purchase them.
No one in Guild Wars 1 seemed that riled that their rewards weren’t exclusive. It allowed players who wanted challenge to do challenging content and profit. It allowed less intense players to have the rewards.
I think this is the best solution all the way around.
To those who support those hard core rewards, I guarantee you if there are enough rewards casual players can’t get, you won’t have enough players left to continue running the game. Casuals, in my opinion, make a vast percentage of the playerbase. The more you put out of their reach, the more of them you lose.
I agree with this sentiment completely.
The guy who gets the super rare drop can hold onto it or get rich by selling it. Either way he is greatly rewarded for participating in the content that produced the drop. Meanwhile the player who doesn’t care for content X can farm content Y to finance his purchase of the item. Its a win/win.
this isnt about item rarity though, its about reward vs difficulty. there can be many people who do something that is challenging.
The thing is everyone will still have the option of buying a slot in a party selling runs.
Anet is never going to be able to release content that is so hard that it perpetually prevents people from selling slots for it. People will eventually figure out the encounters enough to cheese their way through.
Keeping things out of the TP doesn’t indefinitely lock casuals out of access. It simply prevents the content from being cheapened further.
I’d rather not have more challenging content in open world PvE and Personal/living story content.
I feel a hard mode option is perfectly acceptable for dungeons and fractals where it is instanced for coordinated team game play.
That’s pretty much the only place you could put it. You really can’t design very hard content for 60 man pug groups.
I have a feeling that we will be getting some kind of series of buffs/modifiers that we can swap through in exchange for pet damage or capability. Losing the function of the pet skills aside from their autos for example.
I would find it hard to believe that they would give us, say, an eagle aspect that was a direct dps increase on top of what we have now.
It sounds like pure powercreep rather than the horizontal progression the system is supposed to be about.
If you think the casual that play 2 hours a day deserve the legendary backpiece as much as the guy playing 6 hours a day in PvP leagues, than something is wrong with your logic. You have to earn it.
People who bust their rear deserve better rewards than some guy logging in a couple hours a week.
How about the casual that plays 6 hours a day? Does s/he deserve the legendary backpiece as much as the person playing 6 hours a day in PvP leagues? Let’s compare like with like here. Is your time more worthy of reward than mine? If so, why?
6 hours a day doing what? SW chest training? World champ training? RP’ing in the Black Citadel? Harvesting nodes? Killing random over world mobs?
(edited by Substance E.4852)
Aren’t mesmers one of the best boon stripping classes in the game also? Just didn’t see that mentioned and the sword auto attack strips boons just from that.
It’s just strange to me because it feels like the meta isn’t positive where mesmers are concerned. I frequently see no necros/rangers listed, but sometimes feel unwelcome on a mesmer as well (and other times seem perfectly welcome)…. which is confusing as all hell.
Probably a lot more to do with Mesmer utility being better in some instances than others.
They want to stand in LA and get asked how did they got that skin and how, they want others to marvell at their awesomeness and that’s all there is to it.
And what is wrong with that? This sounds like a personal problem for you and not something that warrants taking away things from others.
If you don’t want to put in the effort to get something, then that’s your choice.
How about people wanting to get legendary armour, not for the stat switching but for the special-snowflake-ness? After all the legendary PvP backpiece really isn’t going to add anything mechanically.
In a game that is largely focused on skins, legendary’s can be a visual carrot instead of a mechanical one.
If the carrot of this game ends up being an entire suit of armor crafted out of the Twilight/Sunrise effect or the Bolt aura effect, yaaaaa, that’s going to be horrible.
And before anyone goes about kidding themselves, this is exactly what people are thinking off when they ask for Legendary Armor.
The majority of players will never have a legendary, so for those players, it doesn’t matter if they add 3 or 30. Their game experience won’t be that different with or without new legendaries. Should the devs focus on content that the majority will see, or will a few more “shiny” skins be the determining factor of quality and completeness of the xpac?
They should absolutely work on the content that they promised. Basically everybody who watched the HoT announcement at PAX thought “Awesome, a new set of legendaries.” Then we find out that its only 3 new legendaries. An absolute disappointment.
I prefer the quality over quantity approach. 1 new legendary is 1 more than I’ll ever have. This thread just shows that people had false expectations about what “set” meant.
quality is subjective. one big reason I’ve not gone after a legendary yet is that none of the relevant weapons appeal to me. if a legendary “set” came out, then that’s at least 1 weapon to interest everyone. however, 3-6 legends can only cover a fraction of the weapon classes available, leaving fans of the other weapon classes left out.
and by grenth I swear they’re gonna add more greatswords.
It’s almost certainly going to be a Greatsword, Staff, and Dagger.
They would be fools to wast time on any other types of weapons when these can be used by all but Engineer and are some of the most used on the classes that have them.

Repeat after me: They will be released when Anet is ready to release them.
But I’m sure most art, skill effects and general concepts are already done. So why not show them, so we just know what to expect, and do the balancing part later? Time from Chronomancer reveal to playable BWE was huge.
I’m starting a new account for HoT, but not buying it yet, because I can’t decide which class to make my main, Ranger of Thief, and I need to see both specializations.
Art assets and concept take significantly less time to make than the programing and skill design.
It would take an afternoon to come up with “Druid”. Less than 5 minutes later you’ve got the logical weapon for a druid. Two weeks or so later you have the druid shoulders and staff we’ve seen already. Evidently the skills/traits themselves take 6+ months to work out.
omgosh all the qq.. Rangers are sad that one of our weapons actually takes skill to use and that we cant just Spam 2 to win? The Horror! Actually sword is perfectly viable. you can dodge within the animations between #3 and #1 AA. Also the #3 attack on sword will break the animation and reposition you. In PvP it is perfectly viable as a weapon. If you are not careful yes you can jump off cliffs but I find that it excels in chasing foes and that random gap closer if you target an enemy on the other side of the room on the Leap skill
Hilarious that.
Grow up. The complain is about the clunkiness of the weapon and anyone not seeing it is just blind or accepted his fate.
There are only 2 kinds of people who like the weapon as it currently is:
1. People who like to pretend they are “hella hardcore bruh’!” for sort of having some moderate success with it on a powerbuild.
2. Intentionally disingenuous people who claim it’s great but secretly mean it’s great on a condition build where you use it for dodge spam and repositioning, not for dps’ing the target with the aforementioned auto attack.
I’ll relink what I posted on Reddit:
Guild Wars 2 Ready Up – Episode 3
Lol, that whole “wtf is this guy even talking about?” look the rest of the team has.

Sounds like support/cc versions of necro wells, which is what Chronomancer got. It’s possible that Anet will repeat skill types and themes but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
The block on the spear already blocks ranged attacks in the same way the GS block does.

People are already complaining that they won’t be able to instantly acquire all the new content in the xpac the second it goes live? They are upset that they will have to actually play the game?
kitten it, just pack it up Anet. It’s not even worth the effort anymore…
There is no plans for that, and devs even stated it is working as intended.
Didn’t Peters pop in here a while back claiming they were working on a solution to the root?
Kinda, he poped in a long time ago saying something like “I’ll talk with the devs to take a look at it” and then we never heard a word after that.
Ya, this is the last I can find of the news on it and it’s nearly a year old at this point and 126 forum pages deep. I think it’s safe to say he was either trolling us or they completely forgot about it.
Hmm. Let’s see. Anet deploys Scarlett. She is universally hated by the player base, uniting them to defeat her. Sounds like the writers succeeded to me…
…wut?
Defeating her was the linear goal of the whole LS chapter. There was no other possible outcome. How anyone felt about her would have had 0 bearing on the story.
She literally could have been a white lambert cube with no dialogue whatsoever and the game would have largely played the same.
(edited by Substance E.4852)
And the ranger isn’t considered “dodging” while in that animation?
Nope. You are locked into animations that move the player and nothing you can do short of a weapon swap will break it.
You can try it out on the great sword Swoop.

As far as I can tell ANet designed the armours (a fair number at least) for a human and the stretches it to fit Charr, Norn and Asura (well in that case squishes instead of stretches).
Normally, yes, but the armor on the left is a Norn racial armor and the mesh is unique to male Norn. If it has blurry or stretched textures, it’s because they did a bad job from the get go.
There’s actually a lot of examples of this where female armor will have much crisper, more detailed textures than the male counterpart despite not having many more polys either way.
This isn’t nearly as prevalent now so I suspect it’s a result of the rushed release of the game.
What’s wrong with the one handed swords auto attack?
The leap on pounce locks you into the animation effectively creating a window of time where you can neither strafe nor dodge.
It’s not the entire chain, but the sequence moves fast enough that it happens often and can get you killed if you need to dodge when you are unable to.
There is no plans for that, and devs even stated it is working as intended.
Didn’t Peters pop in here a while back claiming they were working on a solution to the root?

because lolreflect.
^ This
Playing Ranger in t1 is often a lot of standing around waiting for the Wall of Reflection the other zerg is hiding behind to expire before you can do anything to anyone.
Choke points should be a logical advantage for piercing arrows but most of the time it’s a huge penalty.
From what I’ve heard, this is only going to get much worse in the new borderlands map.
I hope not.
I know that I’m not the only one who wants a raptor or some other such dinosaur.I would be deeply disappointed in Anet if they give us a new pet and all we get is some incredibly low hanging fruit reskin pet.
Why not both?
lol, I guess I’m just too jaded at this point to think we’d get more than one if any.
@ person wanting dinosaurs, it would bring only dissapointment. ‘Bad animations’, ‘underpowered’, ‘wtf they call this a dinosaur?’, etc come to mind. They can’t make bigger pets stronger, but a Dinosaur would feel underpowered with the current set of pets. It also could cause lag if it’s body requires to much rendering.
I’m not asking for a Tyrannus or Armored Saurus from GW1 but it would be nice to get one of the current raptor models if nothing else (not the vulture one though, bleh).
I hope not.
I know that I’m not the only one who wants a raptor or some other such dinosaur.

That’s…. something, I guess.
As great as this game is, I’ve just never enjoyed playing a DPS class. Even the classes that are more on the “support” side are still not really enough to quench that thirst to be the one helping your allies.
Is there any possibility at all that they will add healing or tank roles and make combat in the game reflect on that?
PS. Ritualist when?!
The game is great because they don’t have healer and tank.
I prefer they stay as is, though i don’t mind if healing become more appealing, but tank is definite “NO” to me.
Never enjoy any combats that require a tank.
this so much, tank is just sit around in the front and mitigate damage and then healer just heals tank while dps fight, everyone should be viable in a fight and need to watch their resources and battle to their fullest, not just focusing on keeping the tank alive. Never enjoyed WoW because of that monotonous system.
Most good trinity games require the tank to execute good skill rotations to mitigate damage and hold hate/agro, the healer to manage mana and possibly prioritize who gets healed when, and for dps to kill the mob before the healer runs out of resources or the fight goes too long and some kind of enraged mechanic activates.
I think this is why trinity is bad. What is the fun to play a game that you are required to use a specific rotation to play every single time? Tank rotation, Healer rotation, Dps rotation…. Seriously somebody thought it is fun.
As opposed to the very real optimal skill rotations that exist for GW2 speed clears?
It is bad because you want a seat in speed run as a healer, not because you cannot play as a healer. The only viable solution is don’t join speed run, find and gather your trinity buddy and do trinity style speed run. Make guild for it, make it a viable speed run option and show us. Build it into an alternative play style and i think many like minded player will join you.
Good luck, god speed!
When have I ever said I wanted to play healer? Seriously, quote the post if you can and aren’t just full of it in a weak attempt at condescension.

find me a game where people doing speed runs don’t try and run optimal rotations. it’s the point of the speedrun, to optimise to cut down on time.
I pointed out that GW2 utilizes rotations just as much as any other game does in situations where pristine performance is required.
If you are firing off random skills whenever, your speed clear is going to fail on the “speed” aspect just as your trinity raid run will fail because the tank lost hate or the healer burned through their mana too quickly.
This is a fact.
Hilarious that.
