What if they announced 3 PvE maps for HoT?

If LS3 starts one month after the release then we’re pretty much set (imo).
Given that their own staff has stated that they are essentially firing on all cylinders just to get HoT done, I wouldn’t expect any major injections of content via new maps for many months after release.
That’s the boring part of trinity MMORPGs , the best part is fighting the mechanics of the fights, kiting certain 1-shot kill things around, avoiding red circles, killing some adds before they reach the boss etc
That is almost every boss fight in FF14, a typical “trinity” game, so I have no idea where this is coming from other than blind bias.
Remove the “extra” / interesting mechanics from raids and they are as boring as any GW2 world boss.
This is just kittening stupid. You could easily say "Remove the “extra” / interesting mechanics from ‘Gw2 dungeon/fractal Boss fights’ and they are as boring as any GW2 world boss".
Anywhere from “Soon” to never.
As great as this game is, I’ve just never enjoyed playing a DPS class. Even the classes that are more on the “support” side are still not really enough to quench that thirst to be the one helping your allies.
Is there any possibility at all that they will add healing or tank roles and make combat in the game reflect on that?
PS. Ritualist when?!
The game is great because they don’t have healer and tank.
I prefer they stay as is, though i don’t mind if healing become more appealing, but tank is definite “NO” to me.
Never enjoy any combats that require a tank.
this so much, tank is just sit around in the front and mitigate damage and then healer just heals tank while dps fight, everyone should be viable in a fight and need to watch their resources and battle to their fullest, not just focusing on keeping the tank alive. Never enjoyed WoW because of that monotonous system.
Most good trinity games require the tank to execute good skill rotations to mitigate damage and hold hate/agro, the healer to manage mana and possibly prioritize who gets healed when, and for dps to kill the mob before the healer runs out of resources or the fight goes too long and some kind of enraged mechanic activates.

I was under the impression that 3 zones was already what they announced with the one currently at at least some form of playability.
I believe the mystery is still surrounding the final size and content density of the zones.
You won’t able to get all of them in day one anyway, what’s the different between 15 legendaries and 3 legendaries + updates later.
Because it’s a guarantee that those 3 won’t universally appeal to everyone. To maximize appeal they would probably go with the new staff, greatsword, and dagger. Tough nuts to anyone who wanted a different weapon type or who find the ones we do get to be unattractive.
And this is Anet, where ‘later’ could mean a month later or a year later with little news or updates to let us know which.
Only in Pen & Paper RPGs there are NO Healer/Tank roleplay Archetypes. There is no “I want to play a Healer” in real RPGs. Unless we are talking about the DnD 4th Edition which tried to put the MMORPG trinity model in a pen & paper system and wasn’t liked at all by veteran players. It is the only PnP RPG I’ve played that tried to introduce a Tank and a Healer archetype (and it was dumb).
The party roles of Cleric/Fighter/‘Mage’ has been a staple of DnD since the very start.
Cleric has never been a pure “sit and spam heal magic” class but has always been a primarily support class. If it was a better melee’er than Fighter, Fighter would have no reason to exist. The same for Wizard/Sorcerer/Etc when it comes to offensive magic.
“This set introduced concepts which would become standard, including abilities (such as strength, intelligence, and dexterity); character classes (fighter, magic-user, cleric)”

Especially when rangers got a spot in meta in all 3 game modes. But keep on the QQ, it’s so funny to look at how hard some people fail even in this game.
All 3 modes? lolwut?
sPvP: I don’t pvp enough to comment on this but the fact that we get excited to see even one person play Ranger at top tier probably says enough.
PvE: No high level speed clear team is going to bring a Ranger unless they absolutely need to fill a spot. We aren’t terrible, but being in 6th place when only 5 people can win still means you don’t get a medal.
WvW: The only wvw meta is the zerg/gvg meta and no guild that knows what they are doing brings rangers at the moment.
Be all the Ranger you can be but you’re still gonna get picked last for dodge ball.
To think I got my HoM points only to find out my black moa, white raven, and even black widow would never be used in PvE….
Wut?
There are many, many situations where a pet will evaporate in melee range. The only option then is either jungle/widow or the cave spider.
Birds may not have a higher dps over a long duration than a cat but they can front load a huge amount of damage when using the ravens’ to F2 immediately after they attack normally. I’ve seen mine easily pump out 7k+ damage to enemies that will be dead less than 3 seconds later anyway.
Drakes are the obvious choice for anything that emphasizes cleaves.
As far as the black moa goes, it’s ugly as sin and isn’t even rigged correctly. No big loss there.
Content that makes you take damage you can’t avoid is simply absurd. There’s no reason to do it.
There’s plenty of reason to do it. It makes things like healing and defensive stats something people think about and rely on as much as dodges, not things reserved for bad players unversed in the latest exploit/cheese tactic. It also opens up new methods of play beyond dps with a side of dps.
If WvW and sPvP can be hard enough to force people to consider defense beyond the scope of dodge rolls and side stepping red rings, then so can pve.
A lot of people in this thread seem to have missed some of the HoT suggestions by the devs. You can’t say there are no healers and never will be since the devs have stated that in HoT the mobs will have been designed in such a way to not REQUIRE a healer or tank, but to make them desirable in order to complete the missions. This means although there wouldn’t be a specific holy trinity idea going on there is likely to be a soft trinity. Which was in fact that idea at the start of the game. There was never not supposed to be any healers or tanks, but it was supposed to be that ANY class could play any role. But exactly this is why we have the mind-numbing DPS meta which the devs are trying to sort out with the expac
Devs have said many things over the years. At best that is a “we’ll see”.
Hopefully it won’t involve either of these. Especially 2.
1) Add in some undodgeable and unblockable attacks.
2) Add in a useless suicidal NPC made of tissue paper that you must keep alive or fail the mission.
If they are smart about it they will simply have content where you can’t feasibly survive by dodging or using active damage mitigation skills while still in glass gear.
A great way to do it is to make some boss fights have a constant stream of adds that hurt you enough to matter but you can’t dodge because you need to save them for the big boss hits.
Tanks can easily be used in fights where there is an add that needs to be preoccupied for some reason but hits insanely hard and fast requiring tank stats to keep locked down in combat. They could also make some content require a person to stand in a specific spot for most of the fight forcing them to tank up as they won’t be able to avoid all aoe.
My main worry is that they will try this and it will be just hard enough to force pugs to tank/heal up but hardcore players will learn and exploit the content to the point that they will go back to zerk with a side of zerk and there will be an even bigger pve issue than we have now.
1 It’s very rare but you can dodge while in the sword autoattack – I’ve done it 3 times in 2+ years. After you dodge, the next autoattack fires fires.
You dodged before pounce activated, not during. It’s impossible to perform another action during one that moves your position without canceling the leap first, usually by swapping weapons. You could set up a macro to spam your dodge key 5,000 times during the leap of Swoop and it would never work.
Why is it I seem to see these posts every Tuesday?
Because people are bored and subconsciously miss living world with it’s two week release of new content. But they wanted an expansion and that means not a lot of staff working on current content. Oh well.
I think it’s more that people are pretty unused to Anet not promoting some new gem store thing each week.
This is honestly the quietest I’ve seen it in a long time. I’m not sure if it’s a new strategy or they are genuinely that strapped for manpower.
Which is why I think the schedule has slipped. I’m betting they were planning to be much, much further along with HoT and ran out of “filler” material to keep us busy. The stuff they pulled from the store is planned to return during those first few months post HoT launch, or even the anniversary sale, so they can’t bring them back prematurely. Anything new requires resources that may have been assigned for HoT.
Remember when we got Tuesday and Friday Gem Shop updates/sales? Sort of miss those days. I have nearly 5K in gems built up waiting for a sale.
It’s been my belief for a while that they pushed the prepurchase release and the trait update up to overlap with the FF14 expansion coming out and they have to now work double time to compensate for that.
The only other thing I can think of is that something went very wrong somewhere in the pipeline and now everything is congested or something major needs to be redone from scratch.
I can’t really think of anything else that would force them to work like they are writing a paper due in the morning when there hasn’t even been a release quarter hinted yet.
i;d rather have more rangers of my build type than that of a glassy easy kill rally bot.
It isn’t that glassy LB is a bad build, it’s that the vast majority of people who use it are terrible pvp’ers who belong in EotM.
Most never cycle out of the bow and consequently get immediately downed because they have no ability to reposition themselves. They aren’t inherently less survivable than full zerk necros or ele’s, it’s just that folks who bring those tend to be better at their respective class. I rarely run into a light backline player treating zerg fights like it’s some form of pve.
Used properly, it’s an incredibly good pressure tool that you can use to keep back line players at arms length since it’s the only class that realistically pressure from beyond necro/ele staff range.
It’s primary weakness is that it can’t hit large numbers of people for spike damage and is completely shutdown by reflects which practically every guardian brings these days. Never mind that zerg + pet = poop.
I honestly never even realized how bad it was till I took a geared up Necro in and the difference was night and day. I do significantly more damage to more people, have much better utility, and once you get used to using shroud and plague form, there’s very little if any survivability lost when bringing 3 wells.
All this while operating from basically the same position in the group. There really wasn’t that much adjustment at all.
I did it begrudgingly but now I just use her as my wvw main.

The difference between this and grinding is you can’t get the AR by grinding other parts of the game. When somebody has the AR you know they played a lot of fractal runs and therefore they are experienced at fractals.
You can certainly get AR by grinding other parts of the game since agony infusions are on the TP.
In any case, gating by gear is the lowest, laziest kind of development.
You need infused gear to be able to use those though.
They are still over powered. Just think, you now have more trait points to use elsewhere. Seriously, it is fine. Seriously, they are still over powered. At least in WvW.
Compared to what exactly?
It’s a mix of raw hatred over how hard longbow hits in the large open fields of WvW, being completely tired of losing fights because kitten zerker Rangers rallied your enemies, and the fact that Ranger has really poor aoe and support capability making them not at all worth bringing in a zerg.
You can do whatever you want, your dps will be much more less with gs. In team you have 100% fury uptime.
You can go with anything but you will lose 20-50% dpsI am solo only, so I won’t get that 100% fury.
You can easily get near perma fury with clarion bond and a red moa with the traited f2.
It’s probably not worth the effort in most overworld situations to be honest as almost everything outside of silverwastes will die with a single path of scars and a couple sword hits anyway.
Ridiculous self-entitled people.
lolwut?
The only self entitled folks I see here are the people crying that others might have even a chance of having what they have.
If this were something hard to get like the fractal weapons (not hard per se but RNG seems to be quite harsh) some of these arguments would hold water. As it is, you people are literally defending junk you simply talked to npc’s to attain. Mad Memories took all of 20 minutes to obtain when it was out and things like the wizard hat was given away for free through a simple gem store button click.
It’s like a kid who got a participation trophy and then demands that no one else ever get the same one because he participated “harder” than other people.
It must be rough being so petty.
lol @ all the people complaining that they have to deal with occasional disruptions to their attempts at effortlessly evaporating enemies.
1st world GW2 problems…
head is too small looks like snake instead of dragon
Kind of the point.
Can we not have half our current pets be useless first before we talk about new pets?
Only half? That’s pretty generous.
Hmm, snakes would be cool, but I think the animations would be hard to do well, meaning they won’t do them.
Myself, I’d just love a Raptor with smoke field F2 or Bat with a ‘echo locate’ aoe reveal.
Animating a snake isn’t that much harder than a quadruped to be honest. You can even set up special rigs that will automatically animate the slithering motion.
Only thing that’s annoyed me about the Elementalist’s downed state is how stupid it is that they can go through “doors” in WvW. It’s one of the cheapest mechanics that has been allowed to stay that way since launch. Yes, you can try to Immobilize, but it’s rather ridiculous that you should be required to do so.
It’s kitten near impossible to even do so. I’ve seen Ele’s go down in a pile of a dozen red circles and simply cartwheel into the portal because they activate god mode the instant the “invulnerable” state turns off.
I bet that sucks having supply increase on you when you bought near peak. It’s not a loss until you sell it so it’s prolly best if you hold on to them for the mean time.
The one thing I don’t understand is why the high price point on this skin set. I think it uses the same skin as weapons from the dungeon in Caledon Forest (forgot the name, lol, I haven’t pve in a long time) except that is has a light green glow.
I think the most unique weapons are: aetherblade sword, axe, hammer
Scarlets rifle (the invisible one)
You are thinking of the Aether Chest weapons that just palette swap the Nightmare weapons and add that odd laser beam effect. Dreamthistle weapons are from the Tower of Nightmare event and use completely original meshes, textures, and effects.
To my knowledge, the only recycled material BLC weapon set they have put out is the Chaos set which uses adjusted meshes of pre-existing weapons though they do adjust them enough to not make them simple re-skins.
You’re best bet is to get used to using sticky keys on Windows and set a specific key to “double click”.
I use the number pad + key. It doesn’t get much use otherwise so there’s less risk of wearing it down (it’s sad that this is even a concern Anet) and it’s a lot faster than double clicking through luck or boxception stacks.
I have noticed and it’s very irritating. It’s bad enough the mode makes night into day and generates lighting from nothing but it now turns on every time you enter a zone.
Definitely one of those “time to take a break for a while” bugs…
just from a realism perspective – the bosses moving around wouldn’t make much sense. if you could breathe fire (or poison, whatever) would you go chasing ants around? no, you’d stay in one spot and just breath at them.
Which would be valid if even one of the three dragon bosses had even remotely lethal breath attacks.
It makes little to no sense for Tequatal to just sit there, getting shot over and over, when it can very easily crush the mega laser while it’s recharging as it does at the end of a event failure. The same goes for the turrets shooting spears at it.
The first stage of The Claw makes some sense since it’s shown that the cannons do cause a significant amount of harm to the dragon. They even used to blow it’s wings off at the last salvo.
The second phase, however, suffers the same issue as Tequatal in that why stand in one spot eating bombs over and over?
World bosses can never be as hard as instance type combat. People will simply not do them if that happened and then the content would eventually die as the amount of participants fell below what would be necessary for it to succeed.
Imagine if Tequatal actually moved around the beach (instead of kitten ing out in one spot for 30min) and you had to follow after, actively avoiding getting stepped on and avoiding it’s tail. Now imagine if it was a random path. The thing would sort of just spaz out and you won’t be able to memorize “safe spots” to stand in.
People would die constantly and do the typical “I’m not going to release and run back for ‘reasons’” causing dps to plummet. This would effectively make the event uncompleteable for most attempts causing people to eventually not even try in the minimal numbers needed to meet dps requirements.
You need to acknowledge that the average player wants to put in the absolute minimal amount of work for their rewards. I see this in every game and I’m not sure if it’s more noticeable here because of the player makeup or because Anet enables it but it’s certainly an issue in GW2 as well.
TLDR; Save the stuff that requires active thought for instances. Best case scenario for open world would be a never ending kittenfest on the forums until it got eased down. Worst case; people simply avoid the content all together as people did back before world bosses gave the loot they do.
Sssssssssshhhhhhh, the last thing the Ranger needs is another nerfing bug fix.
Just look at what happened to ranger in GW1
Holy hell, I wish we were as good here as we were in GW1!
We were okay in PvE but never terrible like the assassin. We never really became obsolete until DoA became the meta and Anet stopped giving a kitten about horrendously OP stuff like cryway ruining the game because they had shifted focus to GW2.
As far as pvp goes, we went from a solid CC pick to rare stints as the melee role (praise be to the thumper).
Let’s put it this way, I never felt inefficient as a GW1 ranger and I never got community vitriol for playing one either.

You do know that muskets are pretty long right?
Take this one for example with a barrel lenght of 42 inches (110 cm) it could easily hide the bottom and top part of a rifle inspired from that in the picture linked above.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_Bess#/media/File:Brown_Bess.png
So it’s so kitten long that the forestock of the gun isn’t even in frame? Your picture shows the forestock extending almost the entire length of the barrel. Is the bare barrel alone is over 4 feet?
This new musket must have range that makes wvw trebs blush given that it’s shaping up to be so long it’s never not clipping into the ground plane.
Be happy you’re not getting the giant linebacker Druid shoulders…

Yea that could be a staff and it could be the barrel of long rifle we dont see the whole weapon, as I stated earlier both are up for grabs since both weapons represent what they lack atm a 1200 range weapon and a 2h melee one.
A barrel of a long rifle? The barrel is so long that the body of the rifle isn’t even in frame? Really? Reallllly????
It’s obviously the bo staff that was data mined.
You folks are really starting to embarrass yourselves with these mental gymnastics.
Ok no idea what you are talking about now.
I said that, in reference to the comment I quoted, that support roles are really only desired for WvW and PvP, not PvE. Nothing to do with balance.
So a support role for Druid would be quite good, hopefully it does decent damage too.
The biggest support role in the new borderlands is likely going to be reflects for the gratuitous chokes. Unless we bring something better than wall of reflection or ranged water fields, I don’t know how much of an impact a support specialization is going to make.
Will it be good? Maybe.
Will it be good enough to make WvW/GvG focused guilds bring Rangers? Hard to say.
What I meant was that if more people cared and were willing to crowd fund some money for the tournaments it could be way more than 5k$.
How would this go down with you guys??
Crowdfunding would be lucky to double that $5,000.
A majority of people aren’t even going to watch the tournament or follow it in any way. They certainly aren’t going to donate money to it.
The best Anet could do is sell special promotional game items to fund the purse the same way Dota2 does.
Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Substance E.4852
There is still so much to be revealed(5 elite specs) and a lot of info about precursors, legendaries, guild halls, masteries, fractals, challenging content, and PVE maps. Its nearly august. We all though back in january that august was a realistic time for the expansion to release.
The pace of content info release has been really slow honestly. Anet said things would happen fast but one piece of info a week out of dozens of info pieces is really slow.
The sad thing is the release of information is completely without structure. Some hints here, a little news there. It all feels like they are letting us know about things as soon as they possibly can.
That, in of it self, says that the xpac is still heavily in production mode.
There’s really no other reason they would be this disjointed and stingy with details when we can already buy the product. Hype generation is one thing, but this slow trickle has just made me take a “wait and see” approach instead of cracking open my wallet and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
We might get a release date(estimate) “soon” but I think people who are expecting a release before the holiday season are setting themselves up for disappointment.
Maybe I’m just going senile but, I’m pretty sure Anet stated at some point that druids will have the option to go petless.
I think what you mean to say is something along the lines of
“Anet stated every time they’re asked that rangers will never have the option to go petless”
No matter what we get, the pet is going to be right there, tripping over it’s own 2-4 feet as usual.
Did some mindless gold grinding like a “proper” Gw2 player I guess…
More of you should care more tbh, so a few decent lads could win big money that could change their lives
If they need money that badly they should probably not be spending so much time playing video games.
Or spend said time playing a game that is actually an epsort like LoL or Dota.
^If I recall, he’s also one of, if not the first, to come up with Frost Spirit + Spotter.
You don’t have to be smart to see that a skills and traits that buff a party work together. Many people, including myself saw the skills and planned to use them together, before launch.
So why aren’t people running the build back then instead of complaining that the class has no place in dungeons?
Probably because the majority of Rangers are lazy players who don’t use it even now.
I always see Rangers with Spotter. I see them with Frost Spirit less frequently, probably because odds are good it will be dead seconds into the fight from some random BS so they took something else instead (signets or shouts). I hear a lot of “Sic ’em” recently but I’m under the impression its damage component is bugged / not working.
The last couple I paired up with didn’t bring either. One was running some kind of build with no Marksmanship at all because he never had Opening Strike up and another actually brought an Arctodus which is probably the worst pet in the game.
Sic em still works to my knowledge, it’s just that the pet will lose the buff the instant you give it any other commands including using it’s F2 or even telling it to switch targets/return.
…
and now rumor is we turn into out pet for an elite or f skill
People need to stop with the “shapeshifter” biz.
Why would they give us a staff allowing us to finally actually wield “Nature Magic” only to then make the entire subclass about turning into a bear or cat?
It would also completely change up the way the pet mechanic works entirely which has always been something they have turned their noses up at every time we bring it up.
GW2 Druid isn’t going to be WoW/Diablo2 Druid 2.0
^If I recall, he’s also one of, if not the first, to come up with Frost Spirit + Spotter.

If I have to deal with BS transformations that will never be worthwhile in any sort of meaningful setting other than to the people who want to RP like it’s WoW instead of just playing WoW, I’m driving cross country to have a word with ANet and I will personally oversee the firing of whoever came up with the dumbkitten idea to implement Druid, or who cares what it’s called, ANY Ranger change like this.
You seem pretty convinced that Ranger will be getting an actually good “wow, that really fills a role we needed!” specialization unlike the three we’ve already seen.
What precisely in the last three years has led you to believe that they will be putting extra special attention into the Druid?
The best we can hope for is for it to not be complete and total crap.
Hmm, isn’t that the point of a ranger…RANGE…R
I’ll trade my RF with your Hundred Blades any day of the week.
L2P Sonnn.
Ranger means ranger, aka wanderer or rover. The whole misconception that it derives from ranged combat is just that.. a misconception.
Not a misconception. I think Anet defines what the class entails:
“Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.”
Never mind the fact that the ranger archetype in fantasy rpg’s (not pen and paper) are almost always archers or heavily focused on bows, nearly all minion classes tend to be ranged because why bother if all are in melee, and the Ranger is one of the few if not the only class that has an entire trait line named after a very specific style of combat (Markmanship).
Lazze quoted Irenio/Kui directly from the bugs sub-forum. I’m just pointing out Kui’s wording when he said “some” offhand range items.

Ah, i really hope it’s bonefire, WD, WH#4, and Dagger #5 that were looked at, the other ones really aren’t too noticeable with the lack of the size increase.
Oh, dagger #4 is very noticeable…

Holy kitten nerf pl0x anet, gg
i don’t see it being OP….
the theif nearly killed the ranger there with alot of hp left. had it not run (and instead switched to a ranged weapon instead of just using 1 weapon) it would have won easily.
instead, the ranger made use of 2 weapons to fight while the thief only used 1.so bad play on theif part, and ranger nearly dead.
I think the joke was that he killed the thief without just Rkitten him for 1,000,000 damage from spawn.
It was actually a really good fight.
The only sad thing is that he came back on a condi thief which is ’baby’s first mmo pvp’ when used against a ranger.
To be completely fair, Camp Flipping (which the thief was doing) was usually done in a power build setup. The most popular build I was aware of was sword and Knight’s. He might not have ‘switched to gank the ranger’ but rather put on his actual combat gear.
Hard to say. I know T1 isn’t a prime example of roamers but the majority of thieves I see running around solo or in a small group will run D/P with a couple using D/D.
I’ve only ever run into S/x thieves in full zerg fights.
