solves nothing and ultimately hurts build diversity.

you can play sliding tiles all day long and never get a better set up. Specially now that Illusionary Elasticity works on staff clones (for how long who knows).

Either take DE out and make it a natural thing that Mesmer always makes clones on dodge. or leave it where it is.

or just remove it from the game entirely and force mesmers to abandon a lot of tactics and 2 years worth of combat specialization.

Admittedly in very tired of new currencies always showing up when we have so many already.. specially when they all so strictly specialized..

Aside from that the loot in Sw is a bit better and more consistent. Mostly the rares and greens and blues from the event rewards. The chests are just a side thing for me as I have shut luck with rng and champion bags..

Drytop is so tied up on geodes with such huge geode demands on the vendors with little to no drops from events or monsters.. short timers means you need a larger amount of players to get the best results and it’s been consistently shown that gw2 cannot hold those numbers in one map for too terribly long.

Drytop is less sustainable than sw right now and it will probably stay that way.

For the life of me I cannot think of a better title but I do figure this is the best place to.ask as many of you would know better..

Also please excuse any weird words or grammar my phone loves to correct me…

Here’s my question.

Would it be possible to.set up an off client site or voip type of thing for match making in spvp?

To clarify, is it possible to pull a user’s ping to a server and map in a match in solo or team que and match them off client with other users that share the matches digital signature?

This obviously doesn’t need to or shouldn’t be used on hotjoin matches.

If it’s possible I would wager it would be a more appealing alternative to those afraid of team speak or the like as it could potentially allow for much less of a set up on the users part.

Ideally, I just imagine a web page or.widget that must be signed into. However I also think something along these lines.May be considered as far too intrusive to the players privacy and without some. Decent security measures exploitable for does attacks or other less than savoury actions…

So any thoughts on this?

I would argue that simply moving de to a new slot solves nothing.

Make it a minor in inspirational and now all builds will carry inspiration of two and then put two into dueling for the crit chances.

If you want to open diversity it just needs to become a generic thing Mesmers can do. If you nerf it to only on full endurance you cripple the entire class and a net is not good with compensating for nerfs with buffs

yeah you’re on the wrong class and game if you want a mesmer that doesnt rely heavily on clones…

every mesmer build either relies on clones heavily for:
kitten ing shatter puffs, clone death, clone aa spam, or phantasm attacks

this is to supplement for damage or conditions in all cases..

a mesmer that uses no clones or phantasms is doing about 40% of its potential damage.

[PvP] Lockdown vs Shatter

in Mesmer

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Boom! I think Swish just discovered the new and improved “Furious Interruption” grandmaster trait!!

On the note of Furious Interruption, they need to buff this a bit. Maybe reduce the ICD to 5 seconds so you have, at most, a 60% uptime on it? Or just something more useful than 3 seconds of Quickness or more on demand than a 15 second ICD. Maybe make it group quickness[5 people within 360-600 radius]? Because right now, this is just weak, even before the quickness nerf.

Nope, it needs to be exactly what Swish described: causing a 25% chance of interrupting the enemy’s attack when you land a critical hit with an internal cooldown of 15 seconds.

Sadly lockdown builds really do.need a trait like this as much as I hate the amount of back end passive b.s. the game already has. It allows for more sustained interrupting to proc other traits without taking up more utility slots or weapon skills which are already extremely tight and limited for the class.

I would say it shouldn’t even Apply daze or stun just interrupt like when you smack around Pve monsters that are very weak.

[PvP] Lockdown vs Shatter

in Mesmer

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

And that’s a question I really want to highlight:

“Is what lockdown offers to a team worth the tradeoff?”

Do you feel losing iPersona and having shatters that aren’t as damaging for the trade off of interrupting stomps/heals, AoE Immobilizes? If not, what do you think is needed to push lockdown to shatter’s pedestal?

To push lockdown a bit higher I think it needs a few traits that add interrupts to thing like crits. Say a 25% chance to interrupt and action on a critical with an icd of some type.

If ci applied imob in a small aoe it’s potential would also rival that of ip for me. Locking up whole groups rather than just one or two that happened to get interrupted.

It’s a strong spec It just lacks the ability to maintain full potential for me. There’s a lot of wasted traits that are never touched in both shatter and lockdown trait lines that could be redone to give way to more rival builds to shatter.

Swish.2463

Swish, you left out the part where Lockdown can also “Focus on Supporting through utilities and weapon skills!”

While you demonstrate well that lockdown takes more management, you over exaggerate the actual thought process that goes into it. Ideally, you only need to answer two of those questions at most before the game is in your favor. Once you lock someone down it SHOULD be over for that person.

edit – personally, that’s the shining difference for me. With shatter, I can burst someone, but they have a high chance of recovery even if I do everything right. When I play on my lockdown, if I lock you down you might as well get a drink a water while you wait for your impending respawn.

Ideally is never a good word to use to make a compelling point.

Ideally Mesmer would have more AoE damage utilities, and Confusion Glamor would be restored to allow Mesmer to hammer on Zergs again. But “ideal” is often a rare or non-occurrence.

Attempting to Lock down an organized team more than a few times has never worked for me. They learn and they can cover one another and negate you very easily. You also burn out very quickly in heavier battles or you have to lightly pepper them from the side lines while avoiding taking any heat.

In a 1v1 or maybe a 2v2, yes Lock Down can really cut off someone from being effective and can ruin a poorly matched duo’s chances in a fight.

Landing a big shatter on a group means everyone needs to Heal and recover, putting them on the defensive and burning more vital skills imo.

Might becoming a Dual purpose and Stack-able boon is probably what hurts Gw2 the most when it comes to combat imo..

But yes its the sigils and rune changes that have allowed for some pretty fun stuff to happen.

If Might granted a flat bonus and only stacked duration the meta’s across the game would be entirely different but that’s asking for too much.

How about this.. No sigil should be on less than a 9s CD (yes even you Air).

Might related Runes should not supplement with extra stacks of might on top of the extra Power because might is active and Might Durations.

Or how about Might caps out at 5 in sPvP?

And scepter clones AA is the new meta too now right? :/

As easy as it can be for Higher up players to lose touch with the rest of the game inside of what has been a very isolated bubble.

and as much as I don’t agree with what some of Helsth’s ideas or style.

It’s nice to have my feelings echo’d from before.

Lock Down can be great but Shatter is just a lot more Foolproof.

Basicly for me it boils down to this (after some thought last night)

Shatter – Can I hit F1-3 and help myself and My Team right now? Yes? Do it. No? Don’t Do it. Focus on Supporting through utilities and weapon skills! Interrupts do extra damage so make it count.

Lock Down – Can I use an interrupt right now on that skill that that one guy is using even if its not my target? Is that guy close enough to get interrupted if i’m using my mantra? Does he have a clone close enough that is tied to him that can interrupt? Is there Stability up that i need to remove first? Am I about to be blinded or are they about to throw down cover boons and Stability? Is that skill a game breaker to interrupt or should i Save my interrupts for later in the fight?

Should I used my pull to save someone or save it for an interrupt later? Chaos storm on my team for the boons to keep them afloat over there or save chaos storm until the enemy is all blobbed up because I might be able to abuse my 1 single trait to keep them inside of it..

Too many If/then spur of the moment calls to make and it can easily go south the moment you make a poor call or the opposing team has a lucky fool.

It’s just not the better build for me. I don’t want to have to work 3 times harder to accomplish in some situations what I already do, and do very well, in almost any situation.

PVP build for new player

in Mesmer

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Just roll the flavor of the month. 04046 condition shatter. Scepter/pistol staff. Rabid armor/pvp necklace. Runes undead/nightmare/traveler, sigils torment/energy/corruption/doom to start. Tweak as needed. Teaches shatter skills but more armor health so forgiving till more confident.

lol.. no it teaches a completely different shatter and play style. It’s also not a great choice to start learning tPvP with. A focused Mesmer is a dead Mesmer even on that type of build…

If you want a More Forgiving and tanky Shatter spec, Bring a different Amulet from zerkers and run 0/4/4/0/6. Bring in your staff cd reduction trait and just focus on learning to kite and get out of the way while working on shatter timings.

Later swap to 4/4/0/0/6 and apply boon stripping to stuff to focus on learning, what boons and when to aid your team with your bursts, get used to having less staff ports to zip around and learn to save things for the right moments.

last step is to swap for a zerker amulet and then enjoy nuking that clueless bear-bow ranger standing off point smashing 1 and 2.. they go down in 1 big hit if you do it right.

_

if you don’t want to try shatter, you can attempt the various Phantasm builds like Lock-downs or PU.

PU is very much a pick up and play spec that doesn’t have a big learning curve.

Lock Down is shatter’s more overly complicated brother in a lot of ways.

Changes to trait system. Diversity.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Hey there. I hope this ideia isn’t stupid, but here it goes. I will split it up in different topics, so that people can agree/disagree partially and etc.
The main purposes of those suggestions are: build diversity and freedom.Of course, those changes would have to be followed by proper balancing. I won’t discuss about those balances because it would break the purpose of the post. Moving on…

1- why are there minor traits? It is like you MUST have the trait X to be able to get the Y, even if you don’t need or want the X. It doesn’t feel good when you put 6 points on a trait line and you are obligated to stick to 3 unchangeable minor traits. So, couldn’t all traits work like the current system’s major traits? This way, you would be able to choose exactly the traits you want. Thus, more freedom and build diversity.

not a bad idea but let’s get all the useless traits fixed with this too.. maybe before hand

2- why to split adept, master and grandmaster traits? Sometimes, you really want the grandmaster trait X, but you don’t want most of the minor traits and the adept/master traits that come before. Or you want to equip 2 of the grandmaster traits of the same line, which is impossible. So, couldn’t the effectiveness of the trait be determined by the slot it occupies, plain and simple? For example: you have a trait X that gives you +50 power (example) if used at an adept slot. But, if you put it in a master slot, it would give you +100 power, and +150 for the grandmaster slot. This way, you would be able to have, for example, 2 master and 1 grandmaster traits (considering the current system and nomenclature) equipped, and their effect/bonus would scale accordingly to the slot it is equipped in.

This is how things were during the beta’s and guess what the most popular builds were? builds that used what are now, all Grand Master Traits most often it was 10/10/10/10/10/ that was the most OP. It was changed to the current system so that someone didn’t have access to all the best things and had to take some kitten along with 1 good thing instead. balance..

3- about the innate attributes when upgrading a trait line. Sometimes, you don’t want that faster burst regeneration, or the increased boon duration. What if you wanted more power and condition duration, for example? Couldn’t those attributes gained from investing trait point be selected by the player, at least until a certain degree? Lets say i put 6 points in a line. This line allows me to choose between +X condi, precision, ferocity or power. This way, builds would be, again, more diversified and specific to the role you want to play.

while i agree that tieing stats to trait lines was stupid, your suggestion would easily allow for some very lopsided and OP stuff to happen. imagine a thief that only picks power/power/power/ferocity/ferocity/power from its trait line bonuses, or a necro on an already tanky build just grabbing more HP and Toughness.

Yes it’s a pain to have useless stats but anet set it up like it is and kept it as restrictive as it is to avoid having to put any large amount of thought or work into maintaining balance in Gw2. While I find that to be lazy and unimaginative Design, it’s what we got.

ranking necros before thiefs and saying ‘Over reliant on stealth and don’t do well in long melee combats’…
uh

Hell I only use stealth on a few fractals, we usually just run past or smoke trash mobs otw. S/p zerker is the way to go except for bosses, then you adapt.

Usually if a necro is present they are behind trying to catch up due to lack of mobility :/

I’m noting on the class as a whole, not just meta builds. I have seen some very good thieves but due to the majority of thief defense being tied up by the mechanic means a lot less wiggle room for those that play it.

Basically, thieves can be super as long as they are not attempting to attest to the now classic “play how you want” motto of Gw2 when it comes to dungeons.

Necros rank higher, because I, in my experience, find they have more wiggle room with builds and such so I have run into more good necros than i have thieves. even if they chug along in the back and slow things down a tad.

[PvP] Lockdown vs Shatter

in Mesmer

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

I don’t thinks touched on it but I drift towards shatter because I don’t get to run in team question very often with groups that know or understand lockdown.

Lockdown also does require a more perfect domino effect to really hit home and if you completely botch your loads then you do basically become a less effective shatter Mesmer while you wait for recharges. It can be incredibly irritating to run into some classes or higher level players who can keep stability up for so much of a fight on themselves or a team. Without a big ape boon striping I feel like I’m not helping in a fight until stability vanishes and it can be too late at that point if your team cannot outlast it.

In order of more inclined to least inclined to want to take into dungeons for me.. and i don’t do speed runs, just casual kitten ing..

1. Guardians – great team utility and durable. they often don’t go down and bring a lot of party buffs and aid without much effort on anyone’s part.

2/3 : Tied for Ele or Mesmer – similar to the above with the right builds and a good player. they can also offer a lot of dps and aid to control situations that start to get out of hand.

4. Warriors – durable and sometimes helpful, at least they don’t go down too terribly often if they know how to play. banner elite is a plus.

5. Engineers – strange utility and waver between very helpful and great to have to terribly selfish and something that needs to be backpacked through a path. depends on builds and requires above average understanding of both dungeon and class as well as fellow party member classes to be successful.

6. Necros – tanks and can be lovely but much of their utility is neutered by PvE’s lack of complex or advanced natures. great for support or damage sponging when passing up trash mobs tho. Low on the list due to game design, not lack of player skill or class builds.

7. Thief – Over reliant on stealth and don’t do well in long melee combats, limited ranged options and little to no team utility. low on the list due to both class and game design. While they can do great and do a lot of DPS, mobs that carry 60k HP still need a lot of hits before they go down, lack of team synergy is also a negative here.. stealth isnt great unless you’re skipping chunks of a dungeon.

and Last is Ranger.

Yes they have some stuff thats great for team utility but often its not brought to the field and that rangers offer 0 synergy with a team. they don’t cover for others short comings and Pet AI and pathing still causes many an issue. Many rangers i attempt to play with are more than happy to sit as far back from a fight as possible with LB these days and fire away at a target.

Rangers most often do not ever seem to mesh well with a team, due to the classes mechanics more so than any other classes. after all even thieves can run venom share or stealth their party before a wipe / reset and get things back on the right track.

..

I don’t want to seem as if i’m hating on rangers because of bad players, it’s just how I (a mesmer main) find the game to play out. A team with a majority of classes from the top 4 tends to be successful while a team of those classes 5 and below tends to fail and fail very quickly.

Why not fix the Dobb's quest in TF?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Short answer: Because Living Story takes up all their resources. (apparently)

More in depth answer:

If gw2 has a bug that is not a deal breaker or serious exploit or game breaker and it is not effecting the Majority (this is a key word btw) of its players. That bug goes on a pile of things to do some day when we maybe have some time to work on them.

The word “Soon” gets thrown around a lot with it’s meaning stretching somewhere between a few days to over 2 years.

A lot of players don’t care about the collections, the rewards for the effort and time are laughable and Anet knows that, this isn’t a majority issue and is thus going to end up on the pile of “Soon to be looked at, it’s not off the table, when we get time and resources” bugs..

Let’s remember that the old haunted house in Iron Marches and its event were broken for 2 years until LS came through and required it to start working….

Mostly scepter is a condition weapon.. no one bothered to mention that and just skipped to telling how bad conditions are for pve..

Anyway I know some people like how scepter look and play but a net decided for you that at least half of its damage output needed to be condition damage, it’s not a good weapon to haul around unless you build for conditions.

The other problem is that Mesmers don’t do middle ground or hybrid very well either, it’s a class that you either go all in on one thing or you don’t put anything into it at all. It takes specific traits and gear to make us able to hit hard with direct damage or different gear for reflected damage or different gear for our short duration condition spamming to become effective… It’s very sad

So basically you can run a scepter if you want to but no one will recommend that you do so if it is not on a condition build, it’s just not a good power or utility weapon.

Update:

Been learning rotations and portal hops the past week. Only able to find a pug every now and again to attempt T A.

Learning that while I am not super experienced against extremely skilled sPvPers, I’m very scrappy and learn to at-least survive after only 1 or 2 encounters.. skill rotations hardly ever change.. it’s something a lot of you higher ups might want to watch yourselves on.

Still looking for a more permanent and active group to play with at night..

[Power Block] How to make it appealing

in Mesmer

PB was successful on release mostly due to two things.

It put Auto attacks on a 10s CD.

It put Thief skills on a 10s CD.

It was also putting resing and stomping on a 10s ICD as well and that was flat out broken.. it could also bypass defiant and Stability..

How would i like to see it become a nice viable option again doesn’t really mesh with either of your options personally.

Tho if you really want to make it GM worthy and still keep it similar to one of your options..

Remove the ICD, put it at 100% and then add a 33% chance to place all other weapon or utility skills on kitten CD.. (note that kitten CD should be added to any current CD timers already in play.)

Moa "change" suggestion

in Profession Balance

I’m sorry but as a Mesmer main and someone who spends a lot of my time in team que or tpvp with a thief on my team..

what you’re stating is not that Moa is OP

What i understood is that you find Stealth and useless tells/animations to be OP.

So you want just Moa to cause a loss of stealth while casting.. what about laying down turrets as an engie or any other action you might take while you yourself are under the effect of stealth?

I would call that fair trade, in fact lets break the thief class entirely just to round this all out, no one can use any skill in stealth because using skills while hidden is OP.

Now lets focus on poor tells and crap animations, funny enough you play a class that is caulk kittenin full of these. Maybe engi kits also need a sign or marker above yoru head as well as an added casting time to warn everyone in the area that you are about to use a Bomb kit or Grenades?

actually lets just do this to everyone’s elite skills across the board so that I as a Mesmer get fair and equal warning when you want to drop that Supply crate as an asura.

As a player on a class that only just barely found some footing in the Meta again (with a 2 year old build mind you) It’s a bit … well.. whats a good word.. stupid, to see people point at our Mechanics and Elites which have been complete NON ISSUES for a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.. Laughable even.

As a player in general, I agree that Stealth is a bit of a broken aspect of this game. and that some casting animations need serious improvement.

Next time you want to properly discuss it, maybe pull examples from multiple classes including your own tho. People might be more inclined to listen rather than spew back two year old responses to two year old complaints.

i’d say either call a professional or recover what ya can and reformat it then..

or try to google your way around the issue, if you’re the only user there shouldnt be a problem with access denied unless the file has you (the admin) set lower in access than the system itself.

I wonder if a virus could toss things under the ‘trusted installer’ control to make it incredibly difficult to modify them.

entirely possible, you can ask a virus to do just about everything short of altering Kernels (with some very in depth and serious know how)

Edit: If you have ever attempted to Uninstall and completely clean out Norton Antivirus from a PC, it gives you a pretty good idea and look at what a Virus can do and how hard it can be to remove as well.

you should be able to change that back and have the same if not more access than the system claims but without sitting down at your computer myself and trouble shooting i’m not sure what to tell ya.

Lets Build The Ideal 5-Mesmer Team

in Mesmer

Thought about this a bit more today, more often than not the meta builds and teams focus on sustain in team fights. whomever can sustain the longest generally wins the point.

Mesmers kinda .. suck total kitten at long periods of sustain … alteast a lot of mesmer builds tend to suck.

So it may be more prudent to just avoid trying to bring high sustain and insted refocus on above expected bursts to the “support” aspects on the opposing side. and then sever punishment for group ressing once it goes down.

With that in mind perhaps try a 2 shatter 1 lock 1 boon share/support mantra thing and then something else random, maybe PU if someone is absolutely refusing to run anything else, or some kind of Phant or pestering build to cause problems elsewhere.

Or just try a full 5 Shatter team and see what happens. that much burst on a target on a point and something is bound to die right?

even if its a 4v4 and one of their side goes down, even 2 or 3 full shatter bursts on a resing blob should put them in a serious panic to throw out all the stops right then and there.

sounds like there’s a privilege block or access block.

check and see what users have access to do what to those files.

The new "Mimic"

in Mesmer

Swish.2463

I think this skill has become bugged or arrived bugged through the last few patches.

I took it out against a group of thieves in pvp the other day and not only did i not copy all the boons from consume plasma, but the ones i did manage to grab quickly died out and i was left with a utility on CD with no boons up vs a thief that still had all boons up with 3/4’s of their durations still remaining.

Shortly there after i took mimic off my bar and wished i could get the SP back i had used to unlock it, I’m never taking this skill out again its worse than useless.

There was a previous patch bug that allowed some players to potentially skip the middle vine but that was fixed within a few days

Don’t have a ton of time atm to write a pretty message but I have free weekends and I can play Mesmer pretty well. Hit me up if you want a skrim person or whatever.

Sadly I don’t meet your rank requirement as I can’t spend 24/7 on the game playing PvP but when I can play it’s usually where I end up.

Shoot me a mail if you need a practice target tho.
