GW1 didn’t have a Trinity requirement? You couldn’t find a Mission group in Prophecies without a tank and a healer(even the 4-man Missions). Granted once Nightfall introduced Heroes, you could bring a descent Healer or Tank Hero and get through a mission, but you still had a tank and a healer in the group.

Right, but you could still very easily complete things without a tank or a healer. But it was nice to have options

I’m kinda curious why gw1 worked so much better. We had a healer, warriors could tank very well. Paragon had amazing support. Other classes had great dps/support.

Some people would call that the holy trinity.

Truth though is in gw1 never once did I run into a party while doing a mission or pvp were monk or tank was required. That’s what made it different from other games. The was no “you must have one tank, 1 healer, 2 dps to run this” requirements.

Many people say the holy trinity shouldn’t be in this game and I do 10000% agree with that. BUT gw1 didn’t have one either while making the standard tank/healer/dps system. It just wasn’t noticed as strongly because it was never required to have them all in a party.

Why was gw2 not designed with this same method? A game were basically if your not going full out dps your not very helpful. They stated they wanted it to be kinda like gw1 in the aspects were everyone could do everything but they actually went the opposite direction and made it worse then a regular trinity system because everyone needs full zerker and dps.

Thoughts?

Really though in my opinion no race makes sense or matters. We don’t quite know enough yet. If this is a profession where you come back from the mists how can just anyone do it? We’ll see though how they introduce the class hopefully it will make sense

I’m trying to get a precursor and was curious how to go about doing this if I don’t do dungeons. I was wondering if farming world bosses work well? I never really did this and think you can only get one chest a day? But is looting the actual boss have a chance for getting a precursor?

You can still play on your ele and help them out till they catch up to you. As far as difficulty ele and engineer are hardest to master in my opinion. Necromancer was pretty easy overall however is considered a selfish class I actually found it the most dull at level 80. Warrior is the easiest class in the game really and does very high damage. Which in my opinion makes no challenge and takes the fun out.

If you plan on mostly open world pve with your friends I’d suggest a sword warhotn ranger with long bow for bosses and champions or engineer. Ranger actually does do pretty good damage and I found the pet very helpful. Others will say the pet is a pain I personally never had an issue. Also keep in mind levels 30 to 40 are very very boring. This is the case with alot of people. Generally on weekdays I do pve then on weekends do wvw for faster leveling.

The game has overall a great community. I have issues with dungeons at times when I’m on my thief because people often only like certain classes. I don’t do dungeons often though so it’s ok.

Final fantasy 14 I enjoyed the dungeons a lot more with trinity system and dungeon queue though. Very rarely had problems with the community.

But gw2 with no sub fee is beyond worthy of the price tag. Truth be told it feels like a massive single player game though with other people running around unless doing wvw or pvp. But still a great game. The expansion will add player progression which makes a bright future for the game I hope. Only thing this game truly is missing for an mmo is changing skills. Your stuck with the exact same 5 skills the entire game. Gets kinda boring after 50 hours or so but you can make new characters. Like I said though very much worth the price on this game

Yes they are op and I hope Rev is. But like ele and engi you actually need skill to be good at them. I hope the Rev does require skill and has a high pay off for using skill. I hope it’s much stronger then warrior just sitting there using its auto attack and 100b. If this class has many skills that need used together with skill to make it op so be it. It’s a good thing.

Capes worked perfect in gw1. I think if wow and Runescape can handle capes it’s a joke if anet really can’t issue due to clipping issues. Capes just make any armor look so much better in games I think. Actually feels like it really completes a set of armor

I don’t understand these posts. A class in heavy armor and the highest amount of health SHOULD be doing less damage with a class in light armor low health.

Why do you feel you shouldn’t get a nerf? You really want the best armor, health, and dps? I quit warrior because it’s boring, it’s easy, it’s hard to die, there was no challenge at all. I hope they nerf the class even harder and I might actually enjoy the class getting balanced and being reasonable.

I’m not excited at all. I was really hoping they would add something nice for us thiefs. Longbow would be better, but I’d really prefer dual swords, or even a mace. Just not a rifle really. Maybe the new traits though will work nice with my d/p thief.

A lot of people seem excited about this class and a lot of people think it will be like gw1 ritualist.

Am I the only extremely hoping this isn’t the case?

Firstly a heavy armor ritualist I simply don’t understand.
Secondly isn’t engineer turret build the new ritualist already?

I really hope the new class is its own new class and nothing like a ritualist. As it’s a heavy armor class I kinda hope it’s just in a sense similar to warrior and guardian but with a ghosty feel to skills and utilities.

I just think remove the cap simple. Either have…..

10 players in all zerkers doing max dps.

Or 10 people using cd not doing any damage.

So by removing the cap you simply let condition players do the zerker damage and be happy.

Sure if 500 bleeding stacks is killing world bosses way to fast simply increase there health. But let everyone contribute not just zerker players

Change to traits and some utilitie skills I believe. Depending what your doing you may not actually want to be a druid but instead a ranger. That way the game can be more diverse were it might be very helpful to have a druid and ranger in a party vs 2 druids or 2 rangers

If they add 2 to each class firstly that would be great, but what I’d love to see more then anything is new skills.

So far we know the ranger can be a druid. Of course with a staff they get 5 new skills. Will maybe all the other weapons get new skills to?

With thief will we maybe get an assassin changing all the dagger skills?

I’d love so much getting new skills with these new specializations. That way it’s not just “druid is a ranger with a staff”. It would be awesome to have druid and ranger be 2 different classes in a sense. That way gw2 can finally add some diversity in the game I think. Make it feel a bit more like gw1 were we had plenty of options with which skills we used. This would also make pvp so much more fun to I think and bring a new experience to wvw and dungeons.

Curious if I could get some tips here

I do just open world pve for the most part and some wvw.

With my thief I really enjoy going invisible, doing backstabs, seeing high numbers, doing very well in solo fights. However I don’t like how squishy I am with mobs near by and how fast I die running out of stealth when I’m out of initiative to even run.

Engineer I love my bomb kits up close and grenades at a range, I feel more useful in events. I really hate the hobo sack however.

I’m looking for some opinions which you may find one better at solo pve over the other and why. Thanks for any info!

Sorry if my op wasn’t getting across what I meant. I’m not saying the game has a trinity right now in any way.

What I’m saying is at least in my server the lfg is nothing except warriors, guardians, eles, and sometimes a mesmer. I try joining as a s/d ranger I got booted. I tried going in on my d/p thief I get booted. My main suggestion was an actual dungeon queue for people who experience this issue and don’t care who they play with they just want to play. But just not on a specific wanted class just to get into groups.

So I’ve read a lot of posts about how this game doesn’t have the trinity in the game which is a great thing. However it seems the players themselves made a trinity. Warrior, guardian, elementalist.

Often times other classes such as ranger are simply just ignored. Because of this instead of a tank, dps, and healer role shouldn’t we try something else?

Why not enter a queue that needs 2 heavy armors, 2 medium and 1 light(just an example)

Why make a game with no trinity that still has a trinity player made that shuts out so many people.

I remember when the game came out no one cared what class you were making the game fun. But those days are gone now. The queue was only a suggestion to. Premade parties of 5 warriors can still be made for people that can’t spend an extra 5 minutes in the dungeon and a player queue could combine all servers.

Thoughts? And again yes Premade parties are fine, but a dungeon finder queue can be for everyone else.

I cannot believe people are arguing over the probability of an expansion. How could that possibly negatively impact the game? How can adding to an amazing world like Tyria ever conceivably be considered a bad thing? I absolutely see them continuing with the living story to some degree after this launches as obviously those mechanisms were put into place while they built this expansion and will likely continue on while building another.
I’ve said all along the best thing they could do was both and I think that is exactly what they’re doing, how amazing is that!

I hope they don’t add to tyria truthfully. Gw1 expansions each offered a new world, along with something amazing

Factions was a little more of a challenge with more team work needed which I loved. Added the amazing faction battles pvp which was a blast.

Nightfall added the hero system along with a very good story line.

Eotn I just found ok. Story I did like about and seeing tyria the way it was was really cool. And just knowing all the events were leading to gw2.

These expansions however were each one year apart. Each adding new skills, new classes, elite mode.

The problem is I don’t see gw2 adding new classes, or see them adding new skills because they are big on the “you get 5 skills that’s it”. Takes away the guild wars feel. If the expansion was anything like the gw1 expansions then it will be an incredible hit.

I image player B would just jump to a new game once it out rush that game and jump to the next game once its out AND we did see this happen these games die off with in months of them being out too. I am not sure if its worth trying to keep that type of player at the cost of player A because that IS what it would take.

What do you mean by rush? The game has been out long enough for playing 1 hour a day you should have a legendary, and most achievements unlocked. I in no way rushed the game. The game just does not have enough content.

One good and bad thing about this game though is no holy trinity. Personally when the game launched made this the best thing ever. But of course this made players decide who can play in dungeons. I play a thief, a warrior, and a ranger. Personally my warrior is by far the most boring but unless I’m playing warrior in not wanted anywhere really in pve and that’s sad.

The original Guild Wars had 3 expansions, and not once did the raise the level cap, so I think it’s a safe assumption that they won’t be boosting the level cap here. I sure hope they don’t.

Which is very true yes. The only reason I’d like a level cap is for some awesome new traits really. Or doing build like 3/3/0/0/3.

First off, the OP over simplifies the playerbase, stating that they’re either type a or type b. There are a ton of players out there that play the game for all sorts of different reasons, none of which fits into the OP’s black and white characterization of the playerbase.

And second, I would definitely agree with several other posters here……player b will never be satisfied with the game, so that type of player should be very low on Anet’s priority list.

Player C is PvP maniac who wants real PvP feeling and atmosphere but he didnt get it and he doesnt think he will ever get in this game.

No we won’t. Gw1 had by far the best pvp I think. Random arenas was a blast and the faction battles were amazing.

The reason I think pvp suffers is because we are all using the exact same skills. Gw1 had an insane amount of builds, gw2 is way too limited considering we can’t change skills really for weapons

With heart of thorns possibly being an expansion I got really excited. Then I realized what’s the point for them making one?

Let me explain. There are 2 types of people in this game generally.

Player a – Those who are happy, love the world and exploring, like the living story for the most part. Like wvw and the spvp.

Player b – Then there is the people like me. I hit level 80, I got my gear, I did my legendary, there is nothing left in this game.

So let’s say an expansion comes out. The version I want. 1 or 2 new races a new heavy armor class, level cap increased to 100 with new armors. New weapons. Options for more then the same 5 skills, a huge new map size of gw2 at release with a great story again.

Or…..a brand new huge map, great story, more cosmeticts.

Now option one will for the most part really upset player a quite a bit. Option two will be pretty much pointless to player b as they see no point doing it.

Which makes me ask. Why make an expansion at all? The option I’d love to see is very unlikely to meet even half my wants in this game. So for player a why not just continue the living story?

Does anyone else see this expansion being anything more then just a huge chapter of living story in a new map?

I know I’m kinda just rambling on here. Just that gw2 has so much potential to be the world’s best mmo but for some reason isn’t because other then living world there is simply just nothing else to do as its all been done 100 times. Please feel free to hate my post or put your thoughts. Just felt like posting this. I have no intention of a flame war so let’s just discuss not fight

If I’m going with a power build which is typically recommend? I’m only going to be doing pve no dungeons just open world and some pvp.

I overall prefer sword, but necro auto attack crushes the sword as far as dps plus the Wells however have much longer cool down time. Will blurred frenzy plus my shatters make up for the overall dps and be higher?

Any one have any pros and cons for the 2 against each other for open world pve?

Well……I played gw1 sense release and gw2. Oddly never once did Halloween event. So I finally today decided to do it.

An evil prince came out. I weakened him with candy corn. Spent some time farming candy corn and bags. Got an elemental, went back and put him back in the coffin.

Was that it? I thought there would be more. Or is there something else to do still? Have they not added it yet or what am I supposed to do if there is more? I’d be a little sad if there wasn’t more.

How good are rangers now?

I play both……

It’s hard to decide because.

Warrior. Highest hp, highest armor, great healing, very easy to do massive damage. To me the con is they are very easy and become very very boring.

My ranger I love to play, I like using sword alot. And I like I can solo so many things with my pet. I like using long bow at range and doing nice burst. But seeing my numbers so low compared to my warrior always make it feel like a bummer.

But overall I play the game for fun of course. So I’m on my ranger about 95% more of the time

Second, I’m not asking for a single thing for free. I’m more then willing to spend the $10 to change my name. $30 is insane.

Thirdly mind your own business what others are asking, it doesn’t effect you.

Forth. Working in customer service for many years, yes if a loyal customer of many years who has spent a lot of money on our services asks for a small discount one year, you bet I’m going to give them a discount. I wouldn’t think twice about not helping them. Any company I know of would do this except maybe a retail store.

I personally take ranger rune. One hit from a lot of vets or chaps drop you below 10 % health. If your in a fight your pet won’t live make it avoid combat and range so really your 7% is always up for damage bonus.

Warrior is more balanced with other classes. Every class is actually supposed to beat every other class. Your just used to being over powered. So after you get a deserved nerf and quit…..please just go. But of course you need one last qq

So I have 2 characters. Basically I want to switch there names around.

Realized I need 3 name change contacts to do that which will cost a lot of money to do a simple thing. Any suggesting? I don’t mind buying 1 but really don’t want to have to buy 3 or delete my one character.

No – I didn’t like it in GW1 and it would make some builds so OP as to be absolutely ridiculous. I don’t want to go back to the imbalance of GW1 – it was a game that could never be balanced as it had to many combinations and too many skills.

Lol that’s the point. Mentioning what you think the most overpowered thing would be. Not suggesting they add it, that would be a nightmare.

I play my necromancer power d/d in pve. Other then that just conditions with staff really. Class gets boring fast at level 80.
