Tarnished Coast
(edited by Sylv.5324)
I think that ANet’s real problem is that a lot of people have gone from making suggestions, or sharing opinions, to outright getting angry or scornful when they tell ANet what to do and ANet doesn’t do that (quickly enough).
If people want to tell ANet folks what to do, then maybe they need to get off their computer chairs, set down the cheetos, roll their sleeves up, apply for a job at ANet, and work their way up until they can, in fact, tell people there what to do. Until then, folks should stop acting entitled and then get enraged when their whims are not indulged.
This goes for every game, really. The harassment and know-it-all-ness of folks has gotten extreme. Even I have some issues with some of what’s been released and wish they could release other stuff sooner (really a lot of GW1 features that I feel should have made it into this one— the ones that have are great), but sharing that doesn’t mean I need to get all nasty about it.
People are really invested in GW2 failing. ‘Oh, this game is small!’ It isn’t. ’It’s dying!’ It’s not. ‘It would be successful if they only followed my advice!’ They are already successful. ‘Oh but I love the game—’ No. You don’t treat things you love like crap and you don’t treat the people behind them like crap. That’s just basic human courtesy and I don’t know why it’s gotten trendy to nowadays act like e-thugs.
tl;dr – OP and the community in general these last few years is part of the problem. ANet is not perfect, their product is not perfect, but no game is and no game ever will be. Suggest what you think might help in a polite manner, and if they continue to not create the product you like, vote with your wallet.

But my operating system is 64-bit, and I have 16 gigs of ram.
I’ve noticed issues with textures not displaying correctly, and switching zones crashes Guild Wars sometimes.
This is a new machine, just got it yesterday.
My 50-man guild would use this a lot, as we have several weekly gatherings. We used ours in GW1 a lot, too.

The issue is with your friends. ANet made these optional, with a required number of five.
‘But I have to do them all I have to I’ll quit if you don’t lower the number!’
No, they don’t. A break and some common sense would be more useful to them.
i would at least by now produced anything
I was referring to the screenshot above, as I noted. Please stop being obtuse, thanks!
all you need to do is hit the ‘guest’ button at the lower left of your screen, select a world, hit ‘guest’, then the character you want to guest with.
No, but im fed up with people without understanding of most fundamental things about how GW2 stats work
You’re also the one arguing against wearing next to best in slot gear whilst working on time-gated BiS, so I’m not sure why this upsets you. Have fun fighting in greens?
Im arguing against wasting of resurces but thats not topic of this thread.
The stat difference listed above is not that big, and can be made up in other ways, while you work on that weapon. Sorry if you’re mad and just refusing to consider any other option, but if that stat difference is the difference between you succeeding or failing, then maybe you should stop relying on gear to carry you.

So if you are a new player who hits level 80, you’d eschew gearing in rares or exotics in favor of time-gated ascended, even though the cost and time of doing so is pretty minimal (especially if you save your karma, level through wvw, or level through dungeons). Because that makes sense.
If you’re champion training, then buying some exotics really is not a big deal, bro. You can afford a full set of exotic armor in just a few hours of champ training, if you don’t already have exotic armor. You can buy an exotic weapon in less than an hour if you champ train. The investment of time in getting next to best in slot while working on BiS gear is minimal.
No wonder you’re this angry if waiting a few hours or a day frustrates you, geez.

That really does not seem like a dealbreaker to me. You could make up the difference with a buff or a piece of armor.
So basically you have no clue how much is it but feel invited to comment on it?
I think that you are very angry and should stop foaming. <3
So, you refuse to run dungeons or spend karma on exotics? Since as far as I know the new ascended pieces won’t require dungeon tokens or much karmas?
That really does not seem like a dealbreaker to me. You could make up the difference with a buff or a piece of armor.
They’re really not.
Have you seen the requirements for Legendary weapons?
It’s a minimum of 327 ecto’s and that’s providing you get a Mystic Clover every time, which never happens (on average, I think someone worked out people will use 481 ecto’s, just getting their clovers). Not to mention the minimum spend of 120g 50s (100g for the Icy Runestones, 20g for crafting recipies, 50s for the Gift of Battle).
Ascended with their 12 ecto’s and the 11g, 35s, 20c cost pales in comparison. This isn’t even going into the other requirements.
Yeah.
Your cost of making one is, depending on the legendary, usually between 1200 to 1500g (more right now with the mat hike) if you buy your precursor. As far as I know, it will not cost that much to make an ascended weapon.
I really wish people stopped exaggerating to make their argument.
In zergs, the stat difference is pretty irrelevant.
Utter nonsense. In zergs upscaled players and poorly geared players alike typically end up as resurrection fodder for the enemy.
And a player in rares or exotics is not poorly geared, so your point is?
(edit: typo, keyboard dying!)
From what a number of folks have been able to figure, it’s the CoF p1 baddie ragers who’ve bled over into the open world and not farmers in general. If I want to farm, I stick with champ loops, where the regulars are usually a lot nicer and try to help end the event so they can make more money killing the normal champs. XD
I don’t know what to do about the creeps being rude except to report the really nasty ones, and try to not do events in overflows.
Being in full exotics will not make you obsolete. The stat differences are not that massive.
That’s like saying that up until now, being in rares made you obsolete, and it doesn’t. You are still very effective in yellows, including in WvW.
Exotics ARE obsolete. There are for the most part far too expensive for not BiS items.
You can run dungeons for them and not pay anything if you are that cheap. You can get a karma set from Orr for no gold at all, except maybe to rerune.
And why would you invest ANYTHING for something with inferior stats that also interferes with getting superior stats?
Because you need to be in something while you slowly put an ascended set together? Unless you plan on fighting naked? XD
Right now, you get karma for almost everything. There’s no reason why you can’t drop some on an exotic set in orr if you refuse to dungeon. Rune that properly, drop a couple gold on an exotic sword, pick up an exotic backpiece for more karma, and you’ll do really well in every aspect of the game.
You act like exotic gear is a big investment of time— it’s not. You can get a full set of exo armor for not a single gold and for just playing content. If you do a lot of WvW, you will have all the karma for a full armor set, backpiece, and possibly trinkets. If you’ve done any dailies or monthlies, you’ll have some ascended trinkets. Heck, you can get ascended trinkets for WvW currencies.

I will have my legendary finished soon, but I still plan to use my exotic weapons. The stats will still be very similar and a brief swap won’t hurt anything. XD
Just try bringing a character in greens to WvWvW and see how long you can survive without exotics and ascended.
You can survive very well in yellows, which are also extremely cheap.
And you survive much much better in exotics. Your point?
I do fine in yellows in WvW in small fights (I did upgrade my trinkets to ascended finally and I have exotic weapons). In zergs, the stat difference is pretty irrelevant. It’s not a dealbreaker to start out in WvW in yellows or exotics, neither of which are prohibitively expensive, whilst saving laurels and whatnot for ascended trinkets.
You folks are -really- overblowing the difference in WvW (greens, really?). I kinda think you guys don’t WvW very much.

Yes, if you delete everything, you can transfer for free.
Make sure to move everything to your bank that you don’t want to lose, and that the world is not Full. <3
GW2 is a small game… it’s fine, it has it’s niche, it is well-run, well-engineered. But it simply isn’t a great MMO nor is it ever going to have the impact on the genre or players or mainstream than WoW has had.
That’s because the MMO genre was still relatively new, and there were no big MMOs with a western appeal at the time. Warcraft already had a big following from its games, and its generous loot system (compared to other games at the time especially) and more detailed quest system was a big draw to folks who were mostly stuck with grinders.
I don’t think ANY MMO will be able to reproduce that for a very long time— even WoW can’t live up to its former success nowadays, which is pretty telling IMO. There are many more western-style MMOs and the player base is scattered everywhere.
Why are people raging about the financial stuff, anyway? If you like the game, play it and bring your friends. Play on a bigger server. Stop stressing out so much over financial info that’s none of your business.

I wouldn’t say they’re giving away content considering it always has an attachment of either tools cosmetics or boxes that all cost real money to obtain. If we went by what you said just now they’d have 0 money coming in and wouldn’t be doing good at all. So don’t fool yourself they are charging.
It is an optional charge. Someone who never spends a dime in the cash shop has access to this same content.
Even WoW had more world-changing events in it when a dragon landed in a field and put fissures in the ground forever. I’ll continue to wait for better content, but I won’t hold my breath.
Well you could ignore the landscape changes in Southsun, the lighthouse being obliterated in LA, the Lion statue being destroyed by the Mad King..
Were those permanent changes?
Yes other than the statue in LA that has been rebuilt after a few months.
The fact that he has to ask and didn’t even notice shows that he’s not actually paying attention to the game but is complaining to complain.
I totally agree with you and i hope this isn´t the end for this beautiful game..
Guys, if u defend what a-net is doing with ascended equipment and the treadmill which is ongoing slowly, pls… go and play stupid games like WoW and sh..-.-
I don’t have a problem with it.
One: none of the content requires it. Not WvW, not PvE, you can go out in full exotics and still be extremely efficient and effective. sPvP won’t be affected at all.
Two: acquiring it is a slow process. We don’t even have all of the sets and pieces available to us, and we’ve had a long time now just to get things like accessories and backpacks. If you haven’t managed to acquire ANY of that gear and you have played more than a month or two, that is very strange for folks who claim to want BiS for everything.
And three: Even if all ascended gear were released tomorrow, you would still be competitive in the current BiS and you will be for a long time. It was designed not to make the previous tier obsolete.
I prefer flat progression too, but the way you guys are freaking out and exaggerating makes me want ANet to speed up the schedule! If you’re so bad in WvW that you believe you will automatically lose if you fight someone wearing a few higher-tier pieces than you, then stop letting your gear carry you now and start improving your game!
The problem with WoW is that a new tier gets released every six months in its entirety, and is locked behind raids. This stuff is NOT locked behind raids. It’s accessible to anyone. And it’s not going to see big stat hikes every six months. Stop freaking out and assuming this game is turning into WoW.

I may be wrong, but this is how I interpreted it:
ANet has said (since before launch so don’t get all ruffled) that they may someday raise the level cap. Even if there is no new tier, Legendaries will probably get bumped up to Level 90 Ascended or whatever that might be.
In any case, the way this stuff is being implemented prevents folks from being suddenly undergeared, and the stat differences are not massive (and with fractals, laurels, wvw etc, there has been plenty of time for folks to gather up at least a couple ascended accessories.

Welcome to Tyria!
If you’re not on TC or Piken yet, those are the two main roleplay servers (NA/EU respectively). You seem like the type to get immersed that way.
I will definitely roll a character on TC then, thank you so much~!
Remember that all of your characters can only be played on one server, but you can guest anytime.
However, since Anet has let down the majority of Thr gw2 population multiple times, the majority of the game has either left or is on the verge of leaving. I’m not trying to convince you or convince myself that this game is dying, because I’ve experienced some of its decay first hand.
No, it hasn’t, and it’s not. You’re just on a low-pop server.

If by ‘most’ you mean ‘a tiny portion of disgruntled folks on the forums’, sure.
It seems to me Anet is in a lose/lose situation here.
If they don’t say anything it’s because the game is failing and they don’t want us to know.
If they do say something, even providing numbers, then it’s obvious they’ve wrangled it to look good to cover the fact that the game is failing.
[…]
What would convince people that the game isn’t failing?
Nothing. These folks are obsessed with GW2 failing because it didn’t meet their personal expectations. People have been using the exact same lines, argument, contradictory statements, accusations, and such since before launch.
Others then get all panicked and demand hard numbers. I suggest switching to busy servers for the latter ones, and stop angsting about whether the game will die. It won’t for a long time (GW1 is still going). It won’t tomorrow, it won’t next month, and it won’t a year from now.
That this is not locked behind dungeons or raids makes it a lot more palatable to me, especially when stuff is not released all at once. The slow pace and accessibility in acquiring it means that most folks will be able to remain competitive against each other.
Yes, if the other Player is a noob. But what if when a skilled Player fight against you? With this disadvantage you will lose.
Only if you are less skilled.
My server is still very busy. Anecdotally, my 60-man guild is very active. We do get some turnover (not too much) but have stayed between 50-60 for months. Most of the players who’ve left didn’t leave the game, either, they just chose to main another guild.
I’ve received four new apps this week. On TC, I also run into a lot of new players. A fair amount of folks are chattering about WildStar, FF, TESO etc, but a fair amount of players always always always do this after a year in a game. The new blood coming in doesn’t seem to be outnumbered by those that I have seen, though. (Obviously someone with metrics would know more definitively, but I am a no-lifer and have seen the server change and evolve and grow.)
Note that the servers have had increased population caps several times over, and that there has been a lot of shuffling of the playerbase onto superservers: when you see a server at ‘high’ or ‘full’, it’s massively bigger than it was at launch.

If two Guyd fight against, both are good Players. One use full exotic, one use full ascended gear. The ascended gear guy will win. And Guild Wars 2 said, you will win with skill, not gear. So now I -> must <- grind to get this stuff, to have no disadvantage.
Or you can get slightly better and neutralise his slight advantage— not that WvW is often 1v1 anyway. People always come up with this scenario (most who don’t WvW), but that is one of the rarest scenarios in WvW.
It’s difficult to just walk up and faceroll someone just because of a slight stat advantage. If you kite, fight intelligently, learn the enemy’s moves, and are patient, you can beat just about anyone.
He can’t kill you if he can’t really touch you.
I am a GW1 vet. In some ways it feels like GW1, and in some ways it doesn’t. Hopefully they will keep adding good features from GW1 over time.
Thank you very much for keeping us updated.
I also have not received any gifts, despite my main having been created in headstart. Some folks have mentioned makeover kits resetting the creation date, though it still says over 12 months on mine— just no presents. :< <3
I am not going to grouse about a freebie, but maybe next year we could get mini-dragons? It’d be pretty boss wandering around with a mini Zhaitan following me around. <3
Haven’t gotten anything, despite having pre-ordered and creating when Headstart went live.
Scarlet and Canach are both born from the Pale Tree. Canach is a Secondborn, in fact.
Male Light Twilight Arbor glows on the spots on the armor, especially the skirt. The default is white, but I believe some dyes may change this slightly.
Ilike Trahearne.
Also, sylvari don’t see necromancy as dark or evil, it’s just another kind of magic, and they don’t get hung up on corpses. They don’t have the cultural aversion to death that we do.
10g/hr from boxes is way more than you’ll get doing anything else for 1 hour.
No, it isn’t. 10g per hour is what one could make in Orr up through any patch, and you still could just by hitting every event (if you can get enough people) which is what most of us open world farmers did. And even during this, we’d get plenty of CoF p1 folks raging that they could make way more doing that, and go back to it.
I don’t know why all of a sudden 10 gold an hour is wayyy too much. Is it just that folks don’t think you should make that unless you spam dungeons?
That’s not even counting broker flipping, which is way more profitable.
‘GET UP NOW!’ WHAM ‘NOW!’
Okay okay
Newbies get an armor set, I have a greatsaw. I don’t see the problem.
For people complaining about Lord Taere’s Shadow using the same model as the Fellblade— several GS skins have used it since launch. All are slightly modified but it’s the same base mesh.
- To the guy asking for champion boxes to be removed: Did you see how long some champions were up in the game before the boxes? Because I remember going to Caer Shadowfain multiple times every day for a while after the event timers in Penitent and Shelter were changed and it was rare for me not to see the Champion Risen Abomination just outside the camp.
Just like you could never find anyone willing to finish Shank Anchorage pre-patch. I can’t count the number of times I and a few others had to beg for help. Suddenly post-patch everyone wanted to complete it (because the farmers were holding it up oh no), oh my god, the crisis— but almost none of those folks stayed to /finish/ Arah, I noticed.
and the bad apples would still stall or wouldn’t care less to succed at the event.
Fixing this really should be the priority. On the other hand, no one cared to do most events in higher-end zones before the patch anyway.
