Tarnished Coast

The best answer i can give you is that there is a GW forum and you came to a GW2 forum to ask that alone show that GW is on its last legs.
There is no official GW1 forum, so it made sense that they came here.
I think there are more similarities than are acknowledged, but it’s more about nods to the original system (skill names, explorer titles etc) than a direct lift. (Some of the holiday stuff is a lot like the original, halloween being the main one.)
They did bring over a few quality of life things (accessing your storage from almost anywhere is a big one), but they could’ve brought over a lot more.
If you NEED to jump in a game, that and the invisible edges (can’t jump off cliffs, can’t swim) will drive you nuts.
I still play.

No it didn’t feel like a grind at all. It felt like you were a hunter or a traveler exploring the world looking for rare items or something, it didn’t feel like a grind. You were on a journey.
That’s what happened when you played through it. Endgame was a grind. You ground for skills, titles (that gave skills and whose power increased as it went on), zkeys, faction, mats for tormented weapons, ectos and such for obby armors, orrian thingies for booze, holidays for sweet points, vaettir and raptors for faction and wisdom title, etc.
I don’t think most of us minded this.
But these end games grind in GW1 are merely for more gold and cosmetic items. And the desirability of cosmetic items are always subjective. Some people like obsidian armor on their characters while others consider them ugly. At least you don’t have to suck during gameplay for not having max stat gear since you can get those so much more easily in GW1 by playing normally.
In GW2, however, you grind for more effective gameplay powers (e.g. max stat ascended/legendary weapons/armors/trinkets) which is the big difference here!
No, you also ground (grinded?) for more, and more powerful skills. In PvP, it was to unlock skills; in PvE it was to unlock more powerful tiers of PvE-only skills.
WTF, liberal ideology. I’m liberal and that’s not my ideology. :|
Re: no reason to be in level 80 areas: They did bork Orr (the zone was not even complete at launch), but FGS arguably is one and people are there, too.
Right now a lot of us have completed a big chunk of the game’s content and are waiting for more substantial stuff to be released (since this is still a vanilla release with only one year’s stuff). So training allows 80s to still work toward grindy goals. It also lets lower levels earn monies, XP, karma, gear and mats to put toward gearing and crafting.
I like the comment about letting newbies and max-level characters both work toward the same goal. That WAS one of ANet’s original goals in world design, and hopefully they’ve noticed.
There are three big reasons, btw, why level 80s still go to Queensdale instead of FGS: 1) Most QD champs are tied to events, which count for dailies/monthlies; 2) this also counts for karma. 3) Also, it’s more forgiving than FGS, which loads much slower because of the snow and water. So people on slower machines can’t load fast enough to kill the champs, which die much faster anyway because they are not event champs.

What I really don’t like seeing is the ‘kick 80s out of Queensdale’ mentality that’s going on; ANet specifically changed things to try to keep every area worthwhile for any level range to visit, as they want people in the world. 80s belong in starter zones as much as any other levels, which is why rewards were adjusted to drop same-(or similar)level stuff, and why they get downscaled.
And yes, new players and lowbies make up a notable portion of the train and they do get their hits in.
There’s not much Anet can do without annoying a lot of players.
I suppose if you really want to get rid of the champ trains, you can establish some sort of guild which constantly griefs the train by killing champions out of order…..
The vast majority of train folks aren’t jerks, so griefing them (on TC, many of them are lowbies and a decent portion are new) is not, IMO, the right thing to do.
What IS the right thing to do is to report those who are verbally abusive (on either side of the argument; some of the non-train folks get hostile just because, too). If everyone reports these creeps, ANet will tempban them, they have no problem with banning folks for language.
If somehow you still see them raging, block them.
I try to defuse arguments if I see them start, eventually it dies down. Being polite and cheerful usually solves a lot of it. And if you kill a champ outside the train, just meep mapchat to let folks know, imo, just like when folks kill SB.
heres my dilemma…. I already owned Human T3 armor on my necro…. I bought this Human T3 Skin from the TP and copied over my current human T3 because i thought it was cooler. I didnt see anything about this out cry on cultural armor… me frankly i dont care about it myself…
My question is i understand from what the dev says you can get a refund for the armor if you dislike the look… but how do i get my old T3 armor look back if i dont like the new Flamekissed Light ?
I personally bought this to make my old T3 Look cooler with effects. so now im gonna lose my T3 human armor look and the New T3 armor i reskined my old T3 with.
Are they going to provide me with a transmute splitters so i can remove the flamekissed T3 skin off my current T3 Human armor so atleast dont lose that, or can i keep the current T3 Skin.
Basically i wanna keep my T3 Flameskin.. I put on my own T3 i didnt mind paying the 68g to upgrade my t3 look! Gold is easy to make in this game.
Im a Human T3 Owner thats not mad about this but yet now I feel like im going to now lose my Old T3 Armor Look and my New T3 Armor look.
This is starting to feel like SkinWars 2
I don’t want to make you sad but if your old T3 was transmuted on say exotic gear, even with transmutation splitters, you wouldn’t get back your T3, you would get the exotic gear with its original look.
Yep. What’s worse is that ANet may not be able to track this later, so you need to contact them NOW and tell them the issue and they will look in your item history to see if you owned the t3. Ask for the t3 back and a refund on your gems.
I lost a gemstore set this way and waited too long to revert.
How is ‘being allowed to keep it or have a refund if you’re not happy’ not fair compensation?
Giving folks transmutation splitters on a case by case basis would be a start; there are folks who reskinned over parts of their tier armor or other expensive skins, and if the new version is not to their liking, they are borked. (I know several people who are stuck this way.) And if it’s a third-generation reskin (one set reskinned over with another and then with the flame set) a splitter will revert it back to the first version and the other will be lost for good.
Aren’t you supposed to be taller?
Sometimes it just bugs out. I’ve done plenty of damage and occasionally the Shaman just doesn’t drop a bag.
Putting max level at 80 was in my humble opinion completely unnecessary. Level 40 or 50 would have been more than enough. You would just have earned your trait points in a much faster way, making it less tedious. The added advantage would have been more max level zones. (I didn’t forget downscaling but that is not well done either, since with a fully geared level 80 you can basically just wtfroflstomp through any explorable.)
The game is boring. The skills are boring. The fights are boring. It’s expensive to change builds (armor). Even if you do change your build, it’s still boring. The reason there are 80 levels and ascended gear is because the game has no substance.
Seems like this is not the game for you, then, and faster leveling won’t solve your problem.
Please bring back Cantha (and Elona). <3
They should never have made the economy open with variable prices…. that was their most stupid decision ever, since it creates huge differences in the player base. Farmers farm tooooooooooons of gold, making gold totally worthless and most drops extremely cheap.
We don’t farm tons of gold. If we did, we wouldn’t farm so much. We are just mostly grinding away to get enough money for a precursor or legendary mats.
Has the OP actually defined what his endgame IS? ‘I want endgame’ with no clarification is not helpful.
Sounds an awful lot like Trahearne. Hearing him talking about anime and Daft Punk makes me like him a bit more.
Yeah, that british documentarian thing, really smooth. He even has that ‘r’ at the end of ‘aw’ words.
I’ve never had a problem with Trahearne’s voice, but I nerd out on documentaries. He was written to be a documentarian on Orr, so I am so not surprised that they picked that kind of voice for him.
- We need some sort of out of combat boost. A movement signet for example. Having to equip focus – which is situational at best, for swiftness is not cool. We may have good in combat mobility but out side of it, it’s just so painful.
At ten gold a pop now, stacking 6 runes of the traveler is disproportionately expensive to achieve what other classes (aside from guardian) get for free. Factor in multiple armor sets and the cost gets stupid.
Regarding mantras: they are currently too weak to compete with our bread-and-butter utilities. (And no, the solution is not continuing to nerf those.) If you want us to support, then give us strong, reliable support options that are on-par with the support that support classes bring.
I know that there is some investment in making mantras work, but folks need to step back and look at how they work compared to everything else.
Have you thought about redoing Scepter completely as a support-style weapon instead? :/
(edited by Sylv.5324)
On a side note, it seems Mesmers can handle themselves fine. I guess it’s because they’re a class which pretty much stays at max 1200 range and their melee skills are designed to hit and run.
I have been emphatically informed that the current mesmer pve meta is to stay in constant melee range, and that a mesmer with a ranged weapon (no weaponswitching allowed apparently) in a dungeon is a sign of pure fail.
I really only do this if my group kills stuff quickly and/or the aggro doesn’t get locked on me.
(edited by Sylv.5324)
I hope they do. <333
For a long time it was stacked toward red skins. I think they should do more yellow, purple, green etc, to round things out.
I really like the mini bubble idea.
Well there goes my viable option for a legendary.
No, it’s still decent money (I made around the same today as I did before the nerf, granted RNG varies). But so are dungeons and such.
Please let our minis swim again, ANet! ;.;
I do agree that minis need more quality of life improvements, but I really do hope they can change whatever switch is wrongly disabling minis with swimming animations from swimming.
Swimmings. Q.Q <3333
I’d like to see more armors, yeah. I do buy gems every month, and intend to continue to do so, and while I know that making new armor sets is a pain, that is a big part of why I play these games.
I like the variety of weapons being added to the game, but would love to see more full sets.
Yeah.
But as it is, why disable minis who DO have swimming animations?
A patch within the last few months disabled the ability of a lot of minis to swim. Some of these didn’t have swimming animations yet (like the Orrian chick) which seemed to be part of why those were disabled— but minis like the Mini Jack-a-Lop DID have swimming animations, which you can discover by popping a tonic and getting into the water. Instead of poofing back, you swim.
However, this one, and likely some others, also got their ability to swim disabled. This is a serious annoyance, since I like my minis but I am also very much into open-world PvE. Anytime I go into swim mode, my Jack-a-Lop vanishes, even though a swim animtion IS coded into that particular critter.
Please bring it back!
Tried it 2×. Only got Tot bags. I’m pretty sure I got the witch hat on all my characters last year. So I have to spend 800-1000 gems to buy another character slot to get a free mask. Pass. Just another ploy for the gem store.
It’s not a ploy. It’s a glitch. It’ll be fixed.
Those ‘friendly rabbits’ sure did bring back flashbacks of GW:EN.
Me: ‘Oh look bunnies! I should follow them down to the… aww, lookit, there’s so many of th— AMG WAT—?!’

Please allow us to move the minimap to the left of the map (so I can have chat and minimap to the left). I am blind on the right and it makes navigating very difficult.
I don’t know how much more I have to ask. T_T The UI was modular in GW1 and that made it one of the most accessible games that I’ve played. All I’m asking for is to move the minimap to the opposite corner.
Farming IS playing the game. You may not like it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not playing the game. It’s just not how YOU like to play the game.
Having mandatory skills to participate in content is a bad idea.
(This skill appears to be the only way to cleanse the new Toxin condition)A core element of my Engineer build needs medkit as my heal skill, and having to run a mandatory healing skill would require me to re-trait and re-gear every time I do this content.
It’s probably less imperative that folks with good healing/cleansing skills need it, so much as the classes that get splattered by that.
My bias is toward thinking there are political reasons things went out before they’re ready because I can’t imagine the guys pouring their energy into making this game would give this game mode an indian burn of this caliber on purpose.
They were forced to launch early and that is part of why many things have been frustrating or unfinished. It has been frustrating for everyone, including them, and it wasn’t because they didn’t give a kitten .
Scarlet Invasions, Queensdale champ farming, Teq, WvW (especially if your group is focused on capping things).
You have an entire month to collect those items.
Also, minipets aren’t BiS gear so who cares? If you really want them badly go farm, else don’t.
Nothing changes from a gameplay perspective. In GW1 the FoW armor had the same stats as Droks armor and it required bazillions of ectos and shards.
And you could get it over your entire GW1 lifespan. You weren’t required to do it in a selected few weeks. So, irrelevant comparison.
No, it’s totally relevant. GW1 had a ton of grind. Hall of Monuments anyone? Title points?
FoW armor, Vabbian Armor, tormented and destroyer sets…
I still feel like the OP after 5227 hours played. A lot of folks still love the game, too. <3
They’ll release endless gathering tools every so often, yeah.
Yep, both I and my roomie definitely would.
I don’t have an issue with the Ascended gear deal, even as a GW1 player. What I miss are Guild Halls, Cantha, Elona, some of the armor styles, the warped sense of humor (still around sometimes), missions, etc.
There was a lot of grind in GW1 too; if you wanted certain skins, or to max certain titles, etc, you absolutely had to grind.
I also miss some of the old titles. Why does maxing thirst slayer NOT reward folks with ‘Drunkard’ or ‘Incorrigible Ale-Hound’ like 1 did?
I dunno, I’m kinda down with a new meta being essentially launch WHEEEEE! SPLAT everything dies.
It would add depth to gameplay.
I dunno. I mean, I can’t believe mesmer gameplay has fallen so low.
Then again, it’s nice to have such an impact on zerg play, you know?
I dunno, I’m kinda down with a new meta being essentially *launch* WHEEEEE! *SPLAT* *everything dies*.
It was higher early on, but some of us are still around. I think that seeing more gw1 features make it to gw2 might bring some folks back.
Guild Wars caters to different styles. You don’t find it fun, they do. So go do something that you find fun and leave others alone.
As a GW1 vet, I don’t think it’s as bad as the OP and some others have made it out to be.
On the other hand, I don’t get quite why ANet dropped a lot of quality of life stuff from GW1 (they’ve included some, but not most). Movable UI, Guild Halls, etc.
Maybe we don’t spend enough in the cash shop? I’ve spent around 800$, I don’t know how much more I’d have to to have folks take seriously that being able to move the minimap to the left (so it would be under chat) would allow me to run and navigate at the same time, since I’m blind on the right. In GW1, you could move the minimap anywhere on the screen.
Not very much has discouraged me in this game, though the lack of that feature does; the accessibility of the UI to the visually disabled in GW1 was much more solid.
(edited by Sylv.5324)
At least on my server, a large amount of the folks there do so to level, or to generate money to gear whilst leveling. Others will do so because it’s easier to reach the champs than at Frostgorge (I have a very new machine and can keep up so FGS is where I usually go to farm, but I do dailies in Queensdale), and yet others do so because they can hit many events and thus work on karma.
The OP should notice that it’s usually only one or two folks who complain about champs getting killed; I’ve never seen a whole group of farmers on these champ farms tear into non-farmers. I do, however, see someone who gets grief from one or two people claim that the whole zerg is going after them, even when many in said zerg tell the person hollering that they need to simmer down and chill.
OP needs to simmer down and chill. Just report folks who are rude, ANet deals with them.
If you pay attention when people grumble when a champ gets killed, you find that it’s one or two people at the most, and usually others (usually folks in the same farm group) tell them to chill.
If folks are rude to you, report. On the other hand, if you are deliberately killing stuff with no other purpose than to annoy folks, you are also being rude.
But it’s a lot easier to pretend that a whole bunch of folks are bad, in order to feel like a victim or to try to punish folks further, instead of (no, anet, this is not profanity) acknowledging that it’s usually one or two people out of a large group.
I’d love to visit Elona again. <3
To touch on a few previous posts, TC does have a few devs who check in and/or play and/or RP there. There were a few in the last day or two who answered questions and promised to pass on some requests.
*crosses fingers for minimap and chat able to be on the same side because blind on one side*
I would like to see the UI be more modular, because as it is I can’t see on my right side, and so can rarely actually ever see the minimap. It makes navigating a literal headache.
An option I’d really like to see is smart ground targeting when targeting areas that are out of range.
Like if I use a 900 range teleport, but I cast it at 1000 range, then it still casts at it’s maximum 900 range in the direction of where I tried to cast it. Instead, right now it just fails until you target within range, which usually means you’ll waste like 100 range.
This would be a huge QOL change.
THIS IS IT…
Me, what, six? Please! (I have no depth perception and this makes guessing the correct distance difficult every time!)
Also, can you guys PLEASE make the minimap movable to the same side chat is on? I can’t see on my right side and have been begging for this since launch. T_T
