People who don’t like leveling would love it. People who think you “must” level to know your character. (because eotm or crafting really teach you alot XD ..) will hate it.

Also some people will hate it because it means “less people using crafting to level”. (though already very few people use this, as it isn’ worth it.)

You need to have another commander on at the same time and everyone following only that one. Commander Grief cannot do much harm alone.

Oh he can. Being from GH I know which commander OP means. Commander creates rams in keep wasting every supply so WP cant be finished. Destroys omegas using fall damage, harassing other players etc.

He completely ruins the fun for the entire server, making us loose our keep because we dont have any supply left to defend. Anet shouldnt protect one guy even though he isnt breaking the rules, anet should think about keeping our server happy.

Besides hes not doing this the past month but since release.

harassing other players is reportable.

everything else is not, he’s allowed be a complete and utter idiot :/

Selling ascended trinkets shouldn’t be meant to be profitable. They should change them to be unsellable before people start complaining that they accidentally sold their ascended trinkets.

Why shouldn’t they be profitable? Any other rarity of trinket is, to one extent or another. To paraphrase Taygus, at least put WvW-centric and Fractal-centric players on par with folks that speed run dungeons over and over.

Why unsellable? Accidentally vendoring an ascended piece of gear is the same as accidentally vendoring a legendary or expensive dye drop. Just be careful. And if you do accidentally vendor something you can buy it back if you catch it quick enough.

By your logic, running dungeons should drop ascended equipment as well. As it currently stand fractals of the mist is a good source for ascended equipment while other dungeons are not.

Ascended equipment are hard to craft, account bound and can’t be salvage and is sold for minimal price. Anet intention obviously isn’t for you to get those ascended equipment so that you can vendor them. Make them unsellable so people will get the idea.

I’ve done alot of fractals.
I’ve never gotten anything but rings. They’re easy and quick to come by in fractals.(no I don’t want a nerf. ) gold on the other hand is very slow to come by if you mainly do fractals.
Same for exotic equipment. I want it, currency wise, to be on an equal footing with dungeons..why is that so bad?.

Other trinkets are best got via guild commendations or laurals, and actually, no not fractals.
Time wise, I’ve played fractals more than world bosses.

However I’ve gotten 2 ascended boxes via world bosses. ….so fractals isn’t the best way to get ascended equipment.

Like I said. MOST people who get an ascended trinket drop think “ah crap, why couldn’t it have been an exo at least!”
Thats bad.

Maybe limited ring drops to only fractals lv19 or less. (meaning take them out of the loot table for higher fractals… hich should increase other useful drops…maybe…). Most people by then have all the trinkets they need.
Same for WvW & PvP, after a certain rank, take them out of the loot tables, and hopefully increase slightly the drops of other ascended equipment.

Thats of course if they really don’t want to allow ascended equipment to be salvageable… (not entirely sure why..maybe because we can’t craft ascended trinkets yet).

This doesn’t mean there will be new races or classes. and tbh, I can do without new classes, they still can’t balance the ones we have.

I agree! Soulbound has annoyed me to no end! I have things that I can’t stack because they are soulbound. I have to be careful about what I create for which character because stuff gets soulbound. I’ve picked up some awesome exotics and skins before that I would have loved to use on other toons but had to vendor them because they were soulbound on acquire! The absolute worst is when i place a soulbound item in storage and forget which character it’s bound to.

If it HAS to be bound, let it be accountbound!

aye, that whole souldbound to another character is REALLY annoying. But no, I don’t want to know which character, just let me use it on all my characters, please and thanks! >.>

Sure. If you don’t have all your accessory/jewelry slots already filled with ascended stuff the drops are great. I’m sure plenty of people would love them. But, like I said in my OP, I and many of my WvW-centric friends have all of our jewelry slots full of ascended trinkets. Between drops and previously buying them with laurels. In which case more ascended trinkets are as useful as grey vendor trash is.

If we can’t auction ,give to friends or salvage them (preferably for ascended mats to craft other gear or put on the BLTP) at least I think we should get more than 4s, 95c for them.

Other characters you have? – they don’t drop enough to make a huge difference.

I’d like to see new players manage ac 123 in 1 hour, lolz. ac is quite challenging at low levels and for new players.

I put a bit more thought into my last little note. A wild thought experiment appeared!

Question: If a temporary penalty to your magic find was put in place for dieing;

1. Would you be more inclined to try and stay alive?

2. Would you actively try and learn an enemy’s mechanics to avoid their bigger attacks?

3. Would you look more closely at your traits, weapons skills, and utility skills to try and find a more effective solution?

4. Would you be more inclined to help others , such as in the case of a pug dungeon run, learn the mechanics that you already know?

5.If anyone else can think of some other constructive question please do. =3

number 4, I’d be more wary of joining pugs, Unless they made it so one death is group penalty.. but, that will definitely risk more elitism in LFG.

I really don’t think a death penalty is needed for someone to do 1-3. Most people don’t want to die, you know.

Maybe, but if people didn’t want to die they wouldn’t melee rush bosses with well known 1 hit KO melee moves, like High Priest of Melandru.

I can respect your answer for #4. Not everyone wants to play a tutor. That’s fine. But by that same notion people don’t ask for help because they don’t expect a nice response.

As for elitism in LFG….we already have that, I doubt it would change much at all. And as I stated before death penalties are for and should only be for the one that died.

The problem is in pug scenarios, people are less likely to help the one that goes down.

Or everyone will go range, because nobody wants to risk the death penalty.
That,s not playing better…just slower.

Simple suggestion.

Ask for weapn templates for ALL classes that can be binded to key presses. (those keys chosen by players when creating the template. )

There, now everyone has ooc weapons swap for every weapon they want.
Everybody’s happy.

100% World Completion

for the one who mentioned legendaryies are meant to be difficult or whatever. Isn’t there already a WvW exclusive gift for legendary? Alot of people who do World exploration aren’t going for ledgendary. just that 100% finished.

Yes and no.

You need badges of honor which are the WvW reward. However, I bought my Gift of Battle before I even started my WvW exploration and I don’t WvW. The badges of honor are given out in achievement point chests.

WvW maps as part of World Exploration for the Gifts of Exploration are now the only thing that forces people to do WvW to get the legendary.

What they could do is make 2 new achievements. WvW map exploration. PvE map exploration. Let the current one be a number of achievments done and it be the one that gives the Gifts of Exploration. Like they do for the LS meta for getting the reward after you do 15 meta achievements.

That way, those who only want to get their 100% can do that and not get stuck at 98%. And it doesn’t change how the legendary component is earned.

then the first step would be to remove them badges from achieve chests. (like seriously, they aint hard to get, if someone wants them).

but yeah.
I’m not gainst keeping wvw & pve exploration fpr legendary..
just against keeping it for that shiny star on your name XD

Some things I don’t look for in a game are situations in which some sanity-challenged NPC uses a catapult to fling cows willy nilly about the landscape (and the associated quest isn’t about putting a stop to it, but instead saying ‘Me next plz!’), frequent raisings of the level cap, and Death Penalties.

That heart definitely should have had a “choice” option. “kill npc to stop him” or “help him”. My asura was just fine helping him, my sylvari on the other hand, disgusted.

Well, this topic is going nowhere.
Just the same people arguing for greater death penalty and completely ignoring the best arguments against it.

heres a question, what is it you look for in a game? What makes you keep playing. Story? adventure, progress? im just curious to see what drives players, it may give me some perspective.

Story, collecting, leveling, Jp’s(well some of them), gathering, ….and anything silly/fun etc. In game toys, like bobblehead, music instruments, (needs more of these and not just through gemstore.)
I also like to kill stuff, but without too much effort.

I can’t stand Vanity tags either. 9 times out of 10 it’s someone just running around solo not even calling events out in map chat. Commander tags need to be harder to get and not bought with 100g.

I agree, but a quiz will not be the best option. As soon as the quiz is implemented, dulfy has all the answers on her website.

Well, it could be random XD.
Maybe not just an ingame quiz, but a “test area”. Like a solo dungeon where if you complete it you get your comm tag.

Or a voting system. “I like how this person leads +1000 votes = comm tag”, .you could lose votes this way to, and also continue to increase, depending on how you lead. an addition of explanation why you’re voting a person up or down, could help prevent abuse through this system. “trolled at teq” is a good reason to vote down.

I more have a problem with people who use the “auto-attack” on a skill like reflect (doesnt require a target).
And leave they’re character like that, to me, this is botting, you are setting a key so you can go away. You are not pressing that key, just because it’s an ingame option, doesn’t mean it should be used so you can leave the computer, generally for 30-45min at a time.

You do realize that the auto attack was added for that very reason right? So you don’t have to spam the attack button, and just activate it once. If it is going on for 30-45 mins on the same enemy, then the enemy is just way too strong. No boss fight should ever last beyond 30 minutes.

There’s not even much wrong with it. Attacking with the first attack is pretty effective in this game. But that is not botting. Botting is when you have an automated program play the game for you.

It was NOT created for you to set and leave. And it’s on a SKILL, that doesn’t require an enemy target. Guard: reflect, ie 30-45 min, was about 4 boss blitz rounds.
And it’s exactly what it is,
setting auto attack so that you can leave the game, is having an automated program play for you.

This wont help at all. You are probably going to shoot yourself into the leg with that since Anet bans people who massively falsly report other people.

You need to prove that claim (and you can’t). How are you falsely reporting if someone is standing still for 10 minutes after hitting the boss 5 times?

Yes you can, it is written when you report them, take some time to read. It is also written they’re taking chat logs into account and not unsubstantiated player reports. So yeah, report em if you want, get yourself a ban.

Whether you like it or not, people can go afk, and they will given how boring the event gets. Because it is their right, and banning them from a game in which they probably have invested a crazy amount of hours and some money because they were “afk at an event” is just plainly stupid. Yeah, they might make the event fail sometimes, does it give you ANY right ? It does not. 6 players can just be bad turreters and make Tequatl fail. Yet you don’t have, by ANY means, the right to report them. I don’t think you realize that banning someone because he “akitten and made me have 8 bags instead of 10”, thus wasting 50 €/$/whatever + hundreds/thousands of hours played + gems bought perhaps is like ultra childish. And I don’t think you realize that there are people paid to review all those reports and that spamming them greatly reduce their QoL at work just because they have to go through so much stupid reports.

Yeah, I don’t like getting afk, I don’t like uplevled on these events, but you know what ? In the end, I don’t. I just don’t. Care. Okay, I’ll have to find another one, and then ? It’s not even rare, only thing missing is the queue function to join another server. In no ways would I report someone who’s going afk, I don’t even care if they make me get silver instead of gold, really, 2 bags, what is it to you, is it worth more than what the person invested ?

Let that be a teaching to ANet, make a queue to join servers so it’s not that annoying, create living bosses and not bosses that get boring ultra quickly (but still reward so much that everyone wants it’s piece of the cake and everyone will do it by the most simple way). I’m so fed up with all the rage in mapchat, feel like I’m playing on some teletubies wars or LoL or I don’t know what, where everyone is a toddler and babbles its rage.

There are no hearts to complete in WvW, these are easily what takes the most time in pve exploration.

However, a POI that requires capture can be infinitely harder than the hardest heart quest.

It’s based on luck, and a frequent WvW player, would have no bother.

It was hell completing WvW on my necro,(only went to grab the points and leave)…. but I played wvw more frequently on my ele and finished it in no time.

They really aren’t close enough time wise.

The vast majority of suggestion threads for any change in the game are over things that would, if taken in by ArenaNet, end up affecting everyone.

You keep using the word PUG like I’m only talking about Dungeon content or something. This is an MMO with open world content, you don’t get to pick who you play with all the time. Especially now with megaservers.

Congratulations on having your say. But guess what?
I’m here to say that not enough people are playing to live.

How does people playing in openworld maps bother you? seriously, just because they die lots doesn’t affect you at all.
Even with the ‘hardcore’ bosses, join a guild for it and now the scrubs won’t bother you.

My point is, you can already give yourself death penalties, that’s not what you want, you want to push your playstyle on everyone else.

World Completion Suggestion

Don’t forget that you can always see the server names you are competing against. You can then guest to those servers to get the POI’s.

Doesn’t work for WvW, the current setup goes completely against anets idea of causal player, as if your not on in a set timezone you may never get that map completion.

Where I agree that the time taken is unfair towards the PvE player, I can bet it can take just as long waiting for that certain PoI to open up in WvW depending on the server, it would also take longer to gather certain mats in WvW than if your say a Cursed Shore farmer, in the long run it would balance out.

Not every pve player farms. The amount of loot bags you can get via WvW, is easily equal if not better than the loot bags you get in cursed shore.
Of course in WvW is dependant on your class, some classes have better tagging than others.

Point is, it really doesn’t balance out to have them separate, unless they give WvW more maps, and then separate them.
There are no hearts to complete in WvW, these are easily what takes the most time in pve exploration.
If WvW had about half as many maps as pve, then maybe I could agree with hem having it separate.

World Completion Suggestion

I read a post recently about someone talking about having to complete the map and only needing 3 points in WvW that they could not get because of the server they where on etc, and where that is 1 person im sure there are many many others who detest having to map WvW to get the gift of exploration for making a legendary,

So why not split the WvW / PvE map completion for the Gift of Exploration, if you complete the PvE world and never go into WvW you get 1 Gift as a reward, if you complete the WvW maps you get 1 Gift, so if you complete both you get the normal 2 gifts,

I know WvW only players who do not want to map PvE and I know PvE players who do not want to map WvW, this seems like a fair balance, maybe?

nope not much of a fair balance. Most WvW players will have those maps completed pretty quickly. It takes much longer to complete PvE maps (unless you’re unlucky )

Also. how many players do you play WITH, that don’t want to do well? Pugs are rarely that difficult to play with, maybe a little slower for most dungeons. Of course you don’t have to pug if you believe most people don’t care.

Anet should never have had a “donation” (ie pay2play) in the first place.

Heal-o-tron collects donations from Divinity’s Reach citizens. The Boss Blitz will commence no matter what.

Logging in just to agree with what buns said. Those objectives have been flipped MULTIPLE times in EVERY time zone this week for us. How you’ve missed then I don’t know.

mos.millenium.org/NA will let you have a live map— slightly behind compared to I game overlays but you should be able to get there in time.

Or ya know… Just log in and follow your karma train for probably 2.5 hours tips to get them.

WvW map completion is EXTREMELY easy if you just relax, have fun, and let the things come to you. Granted the same maps 3 times is quite boring at least I don’t just have to auto attack 3 or 4 times or sit afk on a skill point while I tab out an auto attack to get map comp.

Not everybody can be online at the “right time”. Knowing when something has flipped, doesn’t help much if you know you can’t get online for another 2 hours.

for the one who mentioned legendaryies are meant to be difficult or whatever. Isn’t there already a WvW exclusive gift for legendary? Alot of people who do World exploration aren’t going for ledgendary. just that 100% finished.

I sure hope the Devs allocate resources to something that actually matters before even considering this request. Sorry, but that is my honest opinion of this issue.

Some people think this would be a missive QoL change, and therefore that it matters.

Just because it’s not something you’d enjoy doesn’t mean it isn’t something anet should consider.

The only problem is, all the people who will chug this before world boss events and complain that their response is bugged/laggier.

It has been mentioned that greater death penalty would mean people didn’t play. If that were true no one would have played a hardcore character in Diablo, or taken part in the Ironman contest in WoW, both of which were popular.

I do have a few characters that I do play hardcore already, if they die they get deleted. My choice, and it does give a whole different mindset when playing.

Alot of people who play GW2 are here because they don’t want hardcore.

Hardcore games may be popular but so are casual games (Fable/Sims. )

and yes many people who play GW2 as a chill out game, would quit with more death penalties, because it’s not what they’re playing GW2 for.

It’s certainly not what I play games for.

Death Penalties are essentially a form of time gate between attempts at a piece of content you cannot complete flawlessly. Humans learn through repetition. Slowing the learning process does not necessarily improve a player’s skill level. Making a player wait longer to reattempt a boss fight after he missed one dodge against the boss’ one shot kill attack does not increase the player’s skill at dodging the attack. A player that gets lucky and makes that dodge the first time will actually learn less than the player who fails and tries again.

What is needed, in my opinion, in general are not death penalties on the player but encounters that cannot be overcome with attrition. Bosses getting a “morale boost” that heals them for some small amount, or perhaps provides them with a short term invulnerability buff, when they defeat a character would incentivize not dying without directly penalizing a character.

I’m actually not against this idea. … and note, I like things to be on easy mode.

A number of reasons;
its an online game, so how people play effects you

A lack of incentive to stay alive lowers the desire to play well, and* the tension of will you succeed or not*

I don’t want to have to deal with that feeling for every thing I do in game. Go solo some dungeons.
(also how other people play, only afects you if you party up with them. So you know, join a guild with like minded peeps.

death is a mechanic in a game designed to help teach you what you did wrong, but currently it is an acceptable tactic to embrace death and power through.

I never in inbrace death. I try and avoid it all costs. you add more death penalties, and I will do one of 2 things, never try a jumping puzzle again, never attempt to solo or duo dungeons, never attempt arah/TA aetherblade. Most likely I’d just quit the game.

The fact that people arent learning how to play limits how much depth the developers can add. They have to balance for the average player, if the average player is a kamikaze with low skill in any other facet, thats what they have to design for

anet is cerrently not balancing content for the average player. LS2 will have achieves geared towards “skilled” players.
Also, most people don’t play to die.

Every reward is balanced based on how much of it can come into the game and how much it can take out of the game. By being more difficult, they can put better rewards, by increasing the opportunity cost of dying, more leaves the game. The only way they can have anything besides time sink being the main method of achieving good things, is by having skill be a larger factor.
One of the reasons rewards suck in this game is because they have to balance every rewards with almost no losses.

and here’s the crux of it. " I want more rewards than those peasant players. I not only wnat more rewards but want them to be punished, so that I can have even more than those peasant crappy players.

Rewards do not suck in this game, The RNG can be a little low, but I get plenty of exotics and always feel like “woo and exo, yay ^^” when I get one. I’ve gotten 2 ascended boxes in the last 5 months.
What kind of rewards do you want? an increased chance at something because you’re a super duper player who never dies? aww, well, tough. Alot of this content is group based, death penalties will put a larger dependence on self-survival, rather than working together.

I dont really like death penalties, but the deeper content seems to be suffering for its absence.

It’s been said that a greater death penalty will make people think before they act. I seriously doubt that that will work with most folks. More likely they will simply become more risk adverse and be inclined to sit back and let others fail, or just rage quit to avoid dying.

Playing games with heavy death penalties, it does in fact make people play like they are scared, (not everybody), and it does make people rage (not everybody) but they actually tend to play at a better level, because they have to in order to succeed, The glass cannons actually play like they are glass, the people supporting work harder to keep everyone going.

People adapt to the norm, but sometimes they are highly engaged while being at the norm, and sometimes they are pretty bored. Based on what people seem to be saying here in the forums, and what i have seen in game, its less about the path, and more about getting whatever item easier/faster. And the same people often will say they find it boring, so make it shorter and easier.
That wont make it less boring, it will just give you more progress while being bored. The designers have to find ways to keep people engaged while minimizing boredom. There are ways other than battle design, but they would require world/story/etc to be good so the battle doesnt matter for entertainment.

death penalties don’t make something more interesting. What they do, is kitten people off, induce rage(which is very negative on a community). They are VERY annoying, and if you want to play a game that’s going to punish you for every mistake, well there are games out there for that. I’d rather play to relax, tyvm

I can never remember if enemies can see your custom emotes. I would honestly try running by and emoting “/e just wants map completion, do not kill, for the love of god please do not kill!”

they can.

Most of them will kill you for free loot bags.


tbh, what anet should do, is make the 3 maps count as “one”. They’re exactly the same, and getting that last poi will no longer be an issue if it treated the 3 maps as the same in terms of world completion.

Not sure about ele, but I’ve play WvW a lot on my Mes. Mes isn’t in a great place in WvW. A decent solo roaming build is very different from your zerg build, which makes it an awkward mix, as you can’t easily flip between them at will. Also the tagging ability of Mesmers in zergs (for loot) is pretty poor due to limited AoE options (no, staff really isn’t a great zerg weapon). In this respect ele is definitely better.
