Account wide dyes

you’re saying that you’d come back if only your characters had the same colours? …

right……….

I think my rationale (my highly personal rationale) is a lot more credible than someone proposing to know exactly what others’ motivations are. Sarcasm isn’t a good shade on you.

Collections do hold a special attraction to me, such as the shinies in Rift and EQ2, or the archaeology toys, pets, and mounts in WoW, ingredients in Skyrim, currencies in Path of Exile, all the cards in Hearthstone, etc. Collecting gives a warm fuzzy to those who enjoy accumulating the pixels. It’s a hook. Without the hook, the yen to travel exceeds the yearn to keep logging in.

Certainly, it wasn’t the only reason I didn’t invest the sort of time into GW2 that I gave GW1. I haven’t entirely given up on the idea that eventually I’ll get back to it. That’s why I check the forums and the main news page. Inventory increases and account-wide dyes are the top two things I hope to see.

There are other collections, to say dyes is the incentive needed to bring you back in well shrugs..there’s more to the game.

Despite wandering off from Guild Wars 2 (and, yes, this little dye issue was part of that drift,) I still care enough that I check back now and then to see if anything has changed for the better. An account-wide dye system would be a lovely enticement to come back and really start to develop all the characters I had such grand plans for…

QFT

There really ins’t a good way to describe ‘casual’ vs ‘hardcore’ since it does vary a bit from person to person.

One person will classify ‘casual’ as anyone that can’t sink 8+ hours a day into the game.
Another will classify casual as someone that desires to simply play for fun.
Another may classify casual as someone that simply wants to enjoy some ‘easy mode’ content.
Some classify casuals as anyone that doesn’t play pvp.

Trying to label groups in a black and white manner simply doesn’t work (and really just shouldn’t be done). There truly are too many variables that create a grey area. Human beings and their actions really aren’t that simple.

Personally, I would consider myself a ‘casual’ player. I put in between 12 and 20 hours a week. I do dungeons. I do Teq, Wurm, and Marionette. I enjoy a challenge. Do occasionally stick my nose into wvw or spvp from time to time (only to endure some absolutely terrible verbal abuse which chases me away for a bit, but that’s neither here nor there for this convo). By other people’s definitions, that might define me as more ‘hardcore’ than ‘casual’ because I do enjoy a challenge. Because I do think about my build and my gear; though not to the extent of most min-maxers. Where as to some serious min-max speed runners, I’m a casual ‘carebear’ because I don’t min max. Because I don’t speed run. Because I don’t play the stack and smack gimmick.

Everyone sees it differently.

Put it this way.
How about labelling games causal/hardcore. Thats easier right?
This Sims, Fable, Angry Birds..none of these would be considered hardcore…and neither will their players. Of course there are some that can enjoy both, but this is uncommon.
Casual players generally prefer casual games.

Now what makes these games casual? One reason is they’re ‘come and go’ games, jump in when you want, stuff don’t take major hours to complete. Do what you want, the challenges are minimal.
Even as far as Dragon Age Easy , or DA on a harder setting, would you not say the player on the higher difficulty is more hardcore than the player using easy?

Yes hardcore/casual definition can change per player, but less so per game. And this then somewhat defines what a player is.
Guild Wars 2 is a casual game.
There are many players here who never played another MMO, many who only play GW2. There also many who haven’t played others games or such. This is for the casual players. I would say more so then in other MMO’s
You don’t often see them in the forum, because they are happy, satisfied and challenged enough by the content in game.

Like the game for what it is… don’t try to change it to match other MMO’s.

I like how a lot of the players who complain that the game is easy and trivial weren’t here on day one.

When the game started pretty much everything in the game was tough.
Since then players have gotten better – and having done the content hundreds of times not only have they become adept at it but have figured out the most effective strategies – which are now being used by new players from day 1 thus creating the false impression that the game is easy.

The game is not the problem – players have just gotten good at it.

The solution is NEW content.

probably players are getting better, but in the beginning everyone went into the dungeons with the suggested level and probably green gear, now everyone has exotics or even ascended gear and is going into dungeons with lvl 80.

Yes there is the down scaling and stuff, but that does not compensate your traits and the much better gear. In the low level dungeons your armor also has 2 instead of 3 stats, …

New content wont fix this and the other problems mentioned (stacking, slow attacks, …)

PS: I am a casual player to, no dungeon farming, champ trains, … and i have to say, there is no challenge in GW2. It is to easy and this makes it boring!

We do need new content, though. I’d love to play in a Branded dungeon. Just think of the possibilities for armour and weapon skins!

Honestly, I think most players are satisfied with the level of difficulty in dungeons. Just min-maxing and burning down bosses as quickly as possible is pretty fun in itself. The people who think everything is faceroll easy are clearly not joining any PUGs. Ever so often I’ll join a group where 2 or 3 people fail repeatedly in the most basic, straightforward paths.

I don’t think we should make things harder, that would just exclude people and that’s bad for the game, imo. If anything the dungeons need a mechanism for difficulty scaling. Some form of Elite mode where every mob is a tier higher (vets become elites, and so on), maybe remove WPs so that you need to be manually res’d.

That might be a good idea, and let the party decide on the level, an issue would be effort vs reward, what would be fair to add that wouldn’t be unfair on people who aren’t able for hardcore?
Maybe simply more gold, but then Arenanet would have to add another gold sink…. \=

No casual is the way you play, not how long you play it.
Examples. The Sims players are considered casual gamers. They’re not after difficulty or challenges, that doesn’t mean they don’t play for hours on end.

I am a casual players, I can easily sink (life allowing) 30-40/week in gaming. But it’s the way I play that makes me a casual. ie. not being after challenging content, just wanting to ‘walk’ through stuff.

And the next thing you want is a giant button on your screen, that will give you a free precourser per day?

Even Monopoly has no walk through, you can get to jail, or pay on other persons hotels…. thats life.

And I’m pretty sure, that casual doesnt mean walk through, it means “able to use the core mechanic of the game” and understanding, whats going on on the screen -> understanding teamplay and is able to dodge

I never said I wasnt able to dodge, but casual players dont want challenging content. (Its obvious on how popular trains are. )

A high population is good for the game, period. Makes it easier to find groups, lots of guild activity, socialising in LA and map chat, keeps WvW alive, etc etc.

Even us cheapskates contribute in ways that make the ‘legitimate’ gem shop supporters happy and want to stick around. Everyone wins.

yes, but gw2 still needs to be “earning” x amount, for the game to viable.
Like I said making content harder would lose are a large playerbase anyway.

The question is, would it lose the payers ….and the answer to that, is most likely.

This guy is actually suggesting that this game should actively seek to reduce its population? Lol.

tbf, high population is only good, if that population is actively buying gems. I have this ‘feeling’ hardcore players spend less on gems because they find it easy/quick to farm gold and exchange for gems.
I could be wrong of course, but it seems unlikely.

On top of that, I repeat gw2 was for casual players. If they start making more of the content harder, they lose most of their players anyway.

That is a very good point, but at the same time. I believe difficulty would just weed out people who aren’t really meant to play Gw2. A game should be about overcoming difficulties, not getting your hand held through a tiny little RNG generator. As is that is what GW2 is right now. A giant RNG generator with pretty lights and buttons.

A game should be about having fun.
What you find fun, others may not.

I have to overcome difficulties all day in my kittening life, and you think that because you like to “overcome difficulties” the game shouldn’t be for me?? Go play WoW or something.
This game was advertised to be more casual, accept that that is what it is.

@ OP
I wouldn’t say it’s the most challenging even for me, and that is exactly what I love about the game. I can go online and chill out, doing different stuff, taking my time and just having fun, relaxing. (also I’m the kind of player who buys gems, I supper Arenanet, if they made this much harder, I’d leave.. no second thoughts.. ,, For a challenge just do some of the newer boss, Teq, marionette, 3 jungle wurms..)

You want a more difficult game, play a different, or do more of PvP/WvW.. idk, I’d assume those are more difficult than AI.

Confirmation World Guesting v Transfer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They are quite different.

The color of the window is different (Darker Grey for transfer). There is a gem cost/wallet on the transfer. The button for transfer is larger since guest is a smaller word. Guesting has a bullet list.

colour difference isn’t obvious to everyone, there’s also the way some pc’s render the colours.
They are very similar.

It wouldn’t be hard to make the cost of it in clear big bold letters. I can see how someone tired, not paying close attention thinks they’re fine and next you know they’ve spent gems. “a warning you are about to TRANSFER, would you like to continue y/n” is all it needs.

I get wanting money, but don’t bother with the commander tag. People won’t look up to you/listen better just because you have it.
That commander tag is one of the most pointless things you could spend your gold on.

Why does the GW2 Playerbase ignore orders?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Taygus.4571

commander tag should not be bought but “voted by” by players. “X” amount of votes and you get commander tag, .. different topic ..but point is, spending gold on something doesn’t make me want to listen to you.

If someone without that tag ask if there’s newbies or whatever and starts explaining how it is, I’ll listen, regardless of the tag they may or may not have.
But it has to be friendly.. if they start by complaining I’ll ignore them.

If you want to command, much of is pointing out what needs to be done, and importantly WHY. People dont like blindly following someone. And if the event fails “dont start complaining about how the n00bs died/needed to be ressed”, say what needed to be done.. “like don’t need to dodge whatever..run..” use long range/close .. be at whatever spot. etc.
People dont want to fail, but no one wants to be blamed for not knowing something.

Also, I dont see why I should read up on a walkthrough someone else wrote, just because they had the chance to take part in the event before I did. I do like to try things out, see what they’re like before running to youtube.

I didn’t notice a real change in PuG before or the Queensdale champ farm. Some people were terrible back then, some people are terrible right now and they don’t see any reason why the should become better at this game (a lot of the times, they don’t even know how bad they are until they are stuck on a platform during the Marionette with 4 other bad players and they wipe and blame each other).

This, doing my first dungeon made me see how important it is to dodge/block, but you can’t really learn those things til you try them out.
If experienced players have an issue with n00bs, try teaching/explaining. I think most are open to listening/learning. Giving out to them for “being useless n00bs” (which you see alot) won’t make them better players.

And then of course there are some that don’t won’t to learn, but I think most are willing to listen, if you don’t go on the attack first.

leave champs where they are, you’re bother because you can’t take the train where you want to, guest another server and do it there.

World bosses like Tequetal, that’s different. Again, I don’t see the problem with them being in lower level areas, but they do need to make adjustment for lower population servers. But again, different point and not champs.

dual profession is probably not a good idea.

Just remember this game was meant to be more casual.
I’ve avoided WoW, because for me. It’s too difficult to keep up/catch up. With the constant “upgrading”. Its very frustrating.

I think GW2 tried to keep things interesting with the living story, but then for many people thats too slow to change to the next chapter or too boring. But then that depends on what you like. Everyone isn’t going to want to play the same MMO. And an MMO shouldn’t try to cater to everyone, pick a player base and make that base love what you do.

also I seem remember this being suggested before?..

personally, I like playing unusual colours. But you don’t have that option. (can’t have a blue human for example XD …)

I also wonder statistically IF a quarter players are black. ..Is it more/less. What about the stats on individual servers?

I’d assume the majority of players would aim for a colour most like their own or someone they know. (things you’re used to, generally look better.)
There also isn’t a whole lot black NPC’s, again..which brings us back to “thing’s you’re used to seeing, look better”.

Hmm, okay I see. So huge zergs are going to be an issue regardless but will still be playable at least.

But it would still be able to handle any of todays games though right? I would like to begin to start playing some of the new games coming out this year.

Someone recommended these parts to me:

CPU:
Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard:
Gigabyte GA-Z77-HD3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory:
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 × 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage:
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Hard Drive:
Seagate Barracuda ES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card:
Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card
Case:
NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply:
XFX 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive:
LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer
OS:
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Feck the I5 and go for an I7 (if you have to save a little while longer to do so, do. ..the I5 are a little disappointing in the gaming market despite being advertised as suitable.)

The rest is grand, a very similar build to my own.
Yes it’ll play other games no bother, and graphics are good. Make sure to choose your heat sink and fans well if you want to play on high settings.

If you want more info, I suggest asking about this spec on a computer orientated forum instead.

btw, if there’s a cheaper RAM brand (same gigs) go for it, the faster ram speed is negligible in comparison to the rest of the comp.

Even an extremely top spec comp will struggle, not because the computer itself is struggling, but because the servers are. (broadband is only so fast,)

I don’t like having to beg others to carry me through content. If I can’t do it alone, then I just won’t do it.

But you don’t have to beg.
It is an mmo, not a solo game.

Going on to main map, and saying, ~want to x dungeon, first time in it~ Is not begging, you’ll often get a couple of other who, it’s also first time for. And maybe one or two, that like the idea of running through it with noobs, who will often take it easy and take their time or what not.

I think by not involving other players….you’re missing the point of an mmo.

If I have to engage other players to help me do content that I’m too weak to complete, that is, essentially, begging for a handout. It doesn’t matter how neutral the request is worded, it’s still begging. I would rather endlessly fail or not even participate in the content than to kiss the boots of four other players. I like seeing other players in the game world. I just don’t like grouping with them.

It’s a multi-player game! The point of the game is to team up with others.
If you want a solo game, play a sole game.
Guild wars isn’t that, and to miss out on a large part of game, because you’re comparing it to “needing a handout”, is….well it’s sad really.

“Than to kiss the boots of four other players”
And, you don’t have to do this at all. I team up with people I like to chat to, and we just run through together, there’s no kissing up. Or having to change builds because it’s not the most suitable to the team/with the fastest outcome etc.
It’s just picking a group to fight WITH you. This whole game is surrounded on that idea.

Maybe have no difference in power based on rarirty, but a “friending” system of the mini.
i.e. The more you have it out and about with you, the stronger it’s connection to you, and therefore the stronger it is in battle.
The rarity system, is just rarity, and I don’t think it needs to have anything special to it. People who want to collect them, aren’t suddenly going to stop because all mini’s have the potential of being the same strength.

You can also get alot of the mini’s on the tradepost for not bad value, so the gem store isn’t the only way, I just think most people would rather sell them atm, as there’s nothing to do with them.

I’d like this. I love my my mini;s :]

queensdale is empty most of the time because the trains make it so, remove them and you see it fill up with the players that are suppose to be there.

So wrong. It will just empty of the people running the train. That’s how it was before. That’s how it would be if the train was removed.

This parentalism is toxic to the community. Threads like this only server to tear the community apart rather than fostering any type of cohesion because this is a clear and cut case of “Play how I want. I don’t care if you’re enjoying it. Yes, you need to play how I say you need to play.”

uhmm, the “train” you’re talking about is exactly doing just that, forcing new players in the way they need to play.
that’s why your trains need to leave, i like to see a gamer evolve in a game, not being forced in something they eventually don’t like because they get the wrong idea about the game.
make high level places rewarding, make low/beginner level places not rewarding at all for higher level players.

i like to play a game how i would like to play it, if a playstyle is dominating the game while ruining other playstyles shows a weakness in the system and need to be fixed.

I don’t get how it’s forcing people to do it, tbh.

I haven’t been playing for long. I can see this is a big thing for some people, for those it isn’t there’s alot of other content to interest them.
Paticularly new players. There is alot of game for 50€ here. An amazing world to explore, should they so choose, no one is forced to farm. (really, they aren’t.) Maybe for WvW or PvP, but then, the people who like that, generally are happy to farm. meh.

The AP Leaderboard Sucks; Let's Fix It

Agree. I play another game that does this.

If leaderboards were monthly basis, it would give everyone a shot at it.

however, I don’t agree with this "The AP reward for each daily should be weighted by the difficulty of attaining it. Killing 30 ambients may be worth 1 AP, while completing a level 40 Fractal Run may be worth 10 AP. "
As thats forcing people to play an aspect of the game they may not like, or they’re not “good enough” basically.

I think the way AP is counted atm, is fine. but it should be within a time frame.

I’m 80 and I’m still a noob. I’ve never done a group dungeon/fractal, sPvP, farmed for a legendary/ascended item nor have I ever joined a guild or even so much as joined a party/group for anything. And I have been playing fairly steady for over a year.

" I’ve never done ….."
Can I ask why?

because you’re not a noob for not doing something you have no interest in. (yeah you might not know anything about it, but if you don’t want to know, it doesn’t really matter..)

However, if you do want to, why haven’t you?

higher population servers = more lag.

Certain world events will require waiting to play in on higher pop. servers.(be it your home server or not. Just look at all the overflow threads)
The only major differance between servers, is NA region can’t guest in EU, and vice-versa, but any EU can guest to any other EU .(limited to 2 servers per day).

Other than that, you might want to choose your server, based on role playing, or hardcare/casual., general player attitude.

For Necro, just use the search function, there’s alot about necromancer, and they seem to fair quite well, with various builds.

Any class, is worth playing if you enjoy it. It doesn’t really matter which class you pick in this game, once you understand how to set it up. (and of course what you enjoy to play most)

You bring anything that you placed in your personal bank and your wallet. That is all.

Find a helpful guild and play with other people. It’s okay to let them know you’re a newb, some people get real enjoyment out of showing others the ropes.

This.

I encourage you to tell people you are new and ask if you need help with anything. There are some great players(and guilds), happy to show you the ropes. They won’t get annoyed if you die alot, or have a bad build or want to take your time in a dungeon etc etc.

I just post in main “how to get to xyz”, or "want someone to explore map “b” with me.
I’m now part of a guild that will do this, but people on the map will join you. So tell and ask.

That’s an interesting update. According to the Knowledge Base, we can’t buy an NA version and register it in the EU.

‘For customers in the North American and European regions, upon registration our servers will perform a one-time check to ensure your serial code matches the region you are connecting from. Customers in North America must register the North American version of the game; customers in Europe must register the European version of the game;…’

Perhaps, someone could update the Knowledge Base with this new information. =)

“According to the Knowledge Base, we can’t buy an NA version and register it in the EU”

That’s it exactly what it says.

“For customers in the North American and European regions, upon registration our servers will perform a one-time check to ensure your serial code matches the region you are connecting from. "

Registration is to do with the serial code you get with the game. And the country you are in. It does not have anything to do with the server region.

It is a little confusing.

Things not to miss while leveling

There isn’t anything you can miss, and you can be overlevl for the story it’s fine.

You’ve noticed the map downlevels you for certain areas, this is to keep those areas challenging and not forgotten just because you’re level 80.

You wont miss anything for levelling quickly

Also, you can join a guild at any time. depends on what you’re after and what the guilds after.
I joined a guild shortly after starting the game. I’ve now joined another, and I’m only level 38.

but, I repeat, you won’t miss anything. Only thing miss-able is the living story, as that is monthly updates.

Gem store dyes and other

Let me be clear. I haven’t spent a single dime since day 1. And I will never do so untill the gambling is gone. I want to support the game. I do. I’ve done it before in other mmorpg’s. (played WoW, Aion for several years with subscription) But not here. Not untill I see something worth spending my money on guaranteed items. OP is right. Simple as that.

exactly.
I’ve spent 10€ since I bought the game, not again til they stop with the randomness.
I think a cash shop in games is fine. I much prefer it to subs. But randomness on cash?

I think the issue with this is converting gold to gems. What they need is a seperate cash shop for specific guaranteed items. That you can’t get by gold farming.
Too many people gold farm for gems, changing the RNG on gems could add problems because of this(idk). But I understand them wanting to keep it RNG since you can get them via gold farming.
So create a cash shop with no rny, but no in game way to get to it either.

What I mean is, specific dyes, are cash online, random dye set, gems.
