Because, as many others have said already, running back is annoying as **** and the worst thing to waste is TIME. Time we could be doing something else, like doing whatever it was we were trying to do before we died.
The “time sink” argument seems pointless to me. Truly. I’m really not trying to anger people on this thread, please consider that, but logging into an MMORPG is in itself a time sink.
Running back can be annoying, largely depending on distance and obstacles, but it is minor. Also there are people that could care less about waypointing because when the event is done they will be revived anyways. All they have to do is lay there, have other people do the work (at a slower pace because of the dead), and wait for revival. Rarely is there consequence for that as most times they still get event credit and loot. Why do they still get the reward? Because they recklessly threw themselves at a boss or mob without a care, put in a burst of damage, and then found themselves on their kitten.
Two examples of people not waypointing.
Temple of Grenth – Its understandable because it can be a very challenging event. However the dead pile up and STAY there because, “someone else will finish the event”. Event fails? “Doesn’t matter much. I was watching TV and hoping to get a reward on the side.”
Golem – One of the absolutely most insane spots to ‘not waypoint when dead’. It is literally right next to this particular event. Yet I still see people throw themselves into melee or mid-range without watching for attacks, dodging, etc. They die but they did a burst of dmg. The zerg will complete the event on their own.Again, the ‘Time Sink’ argument is frustrating to me. Would it be an enjoyable game if you sat down at your computer, logged into GW2, and within 30 seconds of logging in were handed everything to you?
There is no risk in combat, there is only reward – regardless of skill. Yes, this is my opinion. I’m allowed to share it.
Many have asked on this thread why, “so many want to make the game harder?” I can only speak for myself and not the rest. But my answer would be because it isn’t hard. Stupidity is rewarded in this game. Yes, there are reasons we die that are beyond our control sometimes – but they are overshadowed by the number of deaths that are avoidable.
Why do we even have DPS, Control, and Support roles? Why do we have combat mechanics? They’re a part of this game, or they are supposed to be, yet they are not being utilized.
As I’ve stated a few times on this thread. I’m not supporting permadeath, level reversal, or the removal of items/loot from a player’s inventory. Something temporary that can be seen as a penalty, but not so harsh that it would be game breaking for those that died by unfortunate means. Something that could be removed through some other means.
Many people have already given you a much better opinion and in better words than I have.
My favorite is the one that says something to the effect of “greater death penalties don’t make the game harder, they just make it more frustrating”. Why not reply to that one?
The problem is that quote is not true. lets say you have a dungeon where if people die, they cant be revived until the dungeon is over. That penalty has made the dungeon WAY more difficult, it also changes strategies, now getting someone alive is a priority, there will be tactics and strategies for dealing with someone being downed(so they wont die).

As many others have pointed out, it’s a game. We don’t want to be frustrated by death because it already sucks enough to die. If you want to make death “harder” (it’s not), then go ahead and give yourselves penalties. Nobody is stopping you. I haven’t seen anyone reply to THAT point. Guess it’s got too much logic…

Quite honestly everyone just think for themselve. That’s what it come down to. See the way some group used to purge group, I don’t see what’s wrong with it.
I don’t know how much but I know 11 silver gives you “gold reward” in the donation ‘event’.

First of all, I could repeat that content as much as I wanted to get my rewards.

mesmers are super fun for solo roaming. They can troll the heck out of other players. Can be a nuisance to kill, and can escape a fight if things are going bad.
eles offer quite a bit of zerg support (waterfields, spam them waterfields). But are extremely squishy for solo roaming.
Mesmers offer zerg support too, just in a different way, sometimes with invisibility/portals etc.
I’d pick mesmer if you’re wanting to do both roaming/zerging.

It’s very easy for you to make this game harder for yourself, want prestige? use twitch and youtube while you’re doing it.
Let us have a game that isn’t frustrating/challenged crazed. I am quite happy with this game, I don’t want more difficulty.
I’m not convinced. How many traits are available to a new player through normal gameplay? And what would a new player consider normal? We’re talking new player, not us rolling a new alt.
Well considering my main only has 60% map completion, none of witch are the maps that unlock traits, I reckon would be traits I’m missing.
I only finished personal story when I reached lv80.
I only tried dungeons at lv65 (because I join a very easy going guild.)
I hadn’t tried a single world boss til lv 80.
I did level up before this trait system.
But this system locks traits behind lv 60 and lv80 content. Which obviously means people aren’t going to know what those traits do til they’re able to unlock them (lv80)..meaning they’re gonna know less about they’re character than before this trait system, at lv 80.
Playing Defiance. Given up on GW2 for the time being.

How is this bad? Levelling is so fast in this game that you can easily get to 80 and not have a clue.

This is greed. Log in, or pay. Vs a sub based game where you pay 50 cents a day for a month(15 dollars a month) and get all content ever released. I can log into WoW right now and go do Baradin Hold dallies from 2 years ago.
Not turning this into sub vs free game argument. But I do think its crap that arenanet made the conscious decision to place this content behind gems(even if its 200), instead of making it free like they said it always would be.
I haven’t logged in to play for weeks, I dont plan on it for another few months. When I return, if I ever return(cuz Wildstar is awsome), I’ll be so far behind that I’ll need to dish out the $$. Or, I have to remember every other week to log in. Like a freakin’ chore.

How many tables can be spawned in map?!
table seems to last about 15 min, (even if the spawner has logged out).
probably as many can be posted in a map as boxes o fun/food tables
just give people a hardcore switch.
This drops your armour by half but gives you 10% extra magic find. Cannot be activated in parties unless everyone uses the switch. So as not to hold back other players in dungeons etc.
There, now leave us who like to finally have an easy chill out mmo alone, instead pushing your wants, that negatively affect us.
If you really want a penalty then do it yourself. Reroll on death, buy an Orichalcum Mining Pick and destroy it, salvage your armor when it breaks, nothing is stopping you.
Why can’t we have a relaxed and fun game? Why everything must be hard and mean?
The more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that the people promoting death penalties actually don’t want them for themselves but for the “less worthy” players around them. The mindset expressed in several of the posts in this thread talks about “forcing people to improve”, but I doubt the people actually consider themselves among those who have to seriously improve to not be hit hard by the penalties.
It may just be an unconcious reaction, but most (if not all) of the pro-death-penalty arguments I have seen in this post come down to “I want better rewards than the worthless casual over there who can’t even survive”.

Casual means that you don’t have to invest too much time to have fun/complete the game , in fact liadri is a short fight and doesnt require a high end gear/build

Let me preface this with: I’m not especially skilled, I tend to mash whatever button is not on cooldown as my method of fighting. Sometimes I can get more complex and not press the knockback button when I’m fighting with folks.
I just hope they don’t tie any major rewards to the hard achievments and they are there more for personal satisfaction as I liked working towards the meta as it was the source of the reward each release. But I don’t have the skill to do something like the liadri 8ball achievement and would be quite disappointed if I was unable to get a skin or something because of not being able to complete that achievement.
Again, this is just my personal opinion and I know there are folks out there that would prefer that super hard achievements granted exclusive skins or titles.
I totally agree, I’m a little of the direction they seem to have planned. I love GW2 for multiple ways to get something, and that most everything is casual. If it ends up too challenging…I’ll be playing alot more sims.

Yes female body looks better and is sexualized. That’s why skimpy clothes fit well on females and not on males.
As a male you want to show off the upper body only ( assuming its a public place) but a female can show off everything .
That’s why I said , beside from having the ability to hide the chest piece in this game, any type of other “skimpy” clothes would look weird on a male.

I don’t fully agree with the second point. I tried finding players to help me with the achievements and all three times all i got was no response and a whole lot of AFKers in the middle.
That does not mean i would pull vets into the group, i had to pass on the achievements and get different ones instead not related to Boss Blitz.

The mechanics of liadria are horrid, one shot kills should never be in any game, they are a sign of sloppy, lazy developing.
the fact that a seasonal event is made in such a way is also bad, seasonal events should not be as much of a challenge bu rather be fun, this event is not fun in any way, it is agrevating, furthermore seasonal events should never be only for hardcore players or cater to them, seasonal events should always be for casuals.the gauntlet has got to be one of the worste seasonal events i have ever seen in an mmo.

some advice.
1.Join team in organised map.
2.ask them to tell you when a round finishes.
3.Go do gauntlet.
when round is finished, spam join for 2minutes.
If you dont get in,
Reapeat steps 2 & 3.
This saves you hammering away at join when chances are no ones leaving.
alternatively… join a guild just for pav.
(also there’s no way this person uses any types of codes to get in quicker,she’s lying…..uness she’s using a script, and thats reportable)

for the likes of pyro and wiggen, it very much is used to exploit the boss.
Why would you reply to me twice on the same post, in separate posts? As for this: Would you rather have them just stand and scale up the boss nearby after having autoattacked it the 3 times that is required to get contribution for the boss.. or would you rather have them actually use some form of ability to actually contribute DESPITE being afk?
Personally I support a system like Warhammer Onlines, where only a limited amount of players can obtain the gold and silver contributions at any given time, and who gets it is based on several factors: Healing done, damage done.. revives.. and so forth.
I would rather they tagged and had the decency to go to the wp.
problem on pyro..is that they AREN’T helping….one guy had set his reflect to behind the group.. for 3 runs!
Thats not helping.. a reflect every 10 or 15 secs, with 0 dps….is not helping.
just using your autoattack on one single skill, is not helping.

I think there should be a report feature.
Its very clear when a person doesnt move and only uses one skill for 30+ minutes, that they’re afk. I’m sure anet can see this too.

go for ascended armour, zerk and more survival based armour.

anet needs to be tough on these people, a 2 week suspension should help deter it.
Anet needs to be tough on their own designs, and not design content that is flawed in execution. If people are afk’ing the bosses, maybe there is something wrong with the design of the bosses? Why would you want to afk the bosses, unless it was a tedious affair that takes way too long, and ultimately has TERRIBLE rewards?
there’s nothing terrible about gold blitz rewards…
people afk because they can get rewarded without playing. Not because it’s boring..
I have nothing against someone who tags the boss and afks AT the wp. but afking at the boss is downright selfish and makes gold runs harder.
condition builds aren’t viable in pve atm. And are hated on in most groups.
So..go with axe for pve.
scepter for pvp modes if you like it.
range is also rarely worth it in pve as the damage is very weak, keep a ranged weapon in your inventory (scepter or staff). for the rare times range is preferred.
they’re gems not diamonds.
And all the buy gold with gems ads are for countering the goldsellers in game. (what anet don’t realise, is if they want this to be a real counter… you need to get more gold for your cash, than gem conversion currently give you.
You can also get there from Divinity Reach, Left, there’s stands to air balloons that will take you to the labyrinth.
I suggest taking a low level, all them falls & wp’ing can get expensive on a level 80
