LOL I am not bashing I am just saying…..Necro was not bad I agree but it wasn’t good either.. NOT if you compare to any other class you could get on and play.

How else would you judge how good they are if not by comparing them to other classes? I’ve played every class except engineer quite a bit, and necros can’t match any of them for easy mode skills like invulnerability, evade spam, boon spam, and invisibility. I would say I main guard and necro since I play those two classes the most and it is hilarious how many mistakes you can make on a guard and still survive and recover. Thief is even more hilarious.

Not having easymode skills isn’t a problem with our class, it’s a problem with the other classes.

Server Match up is terrible

in WvW

I just had a thought, and it’s probably crazy, but what about combining two low-ranked servers to fight together? So it would be SoS+Mag (red team) vs. TC (green team)vs. DB (blue team) or something (just the first four servers I could think of, don’t critique this actual match-up). So in this scenario, SoS and Mag would be partners, sharing one BL and points. This might help them achieve the coverage and numbers needed to go against higher ranked servers, which creates more of a challenge for the other two servers. Next week they might be paired up with a different server, or if they’d risen in rank (because the game kept track of their individual rating on its own, that way if one server is doing all the work they get credit for it) they could end up fighting on their own again, or be paired with a different server.

Just a rough idea I had that might alleviate some problems (though I realize that it might cause others) and make more dynamic matches. Requesting input in 3…2…1

No More Coverage Game!

You’re not (hopefully) the only person in the match. You upgrade the keep and then night shift takes over.

And if the server has a low population and no regular “night shift”?

Yes, we know the high population top-rank servers don’t have this problem. Low ranked servers do and servers with imbalanced populations do. Sure, everyone could just keep piling on those top ranked servers as space opens up so that skill lag and long queues that top ranked servers complain about (and we almost never see at the bottom) get even worse, but that won’t improve the game.

Telling people on low population servers that this isn’t a problem and doesn’t need to be fixed is like me saying that skill lag and wait queues aren’t a problem and don’t need to be fixed because my server doesn’t have those problems.

If time zones and coverage really don’t matter, then they should eliminate the split between EU and NA and let, for example, ET and FC face Vabbi.

Which is why I said hopefully. Coverage at any time is a problem for low-pop servers, that has nothing to do with time zones. Even if it’s peak hours, the higher pop server will be able to cover better. Hopefully Anet will do something to address this imbalance. But I don’t think the OPs suggestion is it.

You’re not (hopefully) the only person in the match. You upgrade the keep and then night shift takes over. Have you considered finding a guild that plays when you’re not around and sending them a quick message letting them know what you’ve upgraded so they know where to focus their efforts? But you’re not expected to defend or counter-attack when you’re not on because…you’re not on. WvW is a server effort, it shouldn’t be designed around the efforts of one person, or even one guild.

I get ganked by thieves all the time…but that’s because I’m not that great at PvP and they’re the 1v1 PvP class. They’re supposed to be good at killing people fast and then getting away, you can tell from the skills they have access too. But as someone who also plays a thief, we are made out of paper. Get your friends together and the thief is probably dead, don’t face the 1v1 class on your own.

Server Match up is terrible

in WvW

Teevell.1684

I like the idea that the match-ups are done by a person, not a computer. There’s only 24 servers, it wouldn’t take that long for one person to do the match-ups every week. There would still occasionally be blow-outs, but there’d probably be more diversity in the matches, too.

But what I was really thinking about was adding in handicaps. Maybe the highest ranked server can only field so many people on other BLs (keep same amount allowed as now on their own BL and EB), and maybe the lowest ranked server gets a speed boost to siege building or something, like they can build siege a certain percentage faster, so they can set up a decent defense of any keeps they take before the zerg comes around again. They give handicaps in golf to try and make it more even, why not here? They couldn’t make it too drastic, otherwise people might try to lose just to get a bonus or two, but it might give lower ranked servers a chance to win, or at least avoid a blow-out.

I’ve been using 30/10/0/0/30 for months, with Axe/Focus then Dagger/Warhorn in offhand slots. Full zerker gear.

I love this build and the patch has really made it stand out.

Close to Death & Axe Training… wow.. today in WvW i hit someone with Life Blast for 7.5K (I had warrior/guardian banners/buffs) – that’s more than my Lich form hits for.

Life Blast is the key weapon in this build…. just chew through the enemies. Dark Path is also great at 1200 range now….

Too bad we will probably be nerfed… people complaining in the PvP forums… my Mesmer also chews through enemies and escapes with no effort – apprently that’s ok, but we can’t have a Necro doing high DPS.

Of course not, because then all those mesmer’s would have to re-roll and level a new profession.

I hated this about WoW dungeons, too. Most of us just wanted to get through, get our badges, then queue for the next one. But then someone would want to do one of the dumb achievements that made the dungeon harder than it had to be. The PvP achievements, which encouraged play that wasn’t conducive to winning the match, were even worse. If you want achievements, form your own group for that purpose.

I understand the objections obviously, but ppl leaving after 1 wipe at the last boss is just kittened. Now if there was an easier and fast way to get new ppl in than that is fine. But no you have to go outside, spam LFM again and then ppl QQ or leave because you are on the last boss.

If ppl leave after 4-5 wipes , and there isnt any significant progress than that is fine imo. But I only had one group that kept trying and making progress and almost nailed it, the rest were all 1-2 tries and leave :p

It works in games like WoW, lots of times you just stay and try to carry the group because you dont want to sit around doing nothing.

Lets say ppl who are a bit slower and not so good at the game, do you think they can improve if they have to quit after 1 try because the majority of the party left?

ah well probably will have to wait and try it with a guild group :p

You probably didn’t want to play with that person anyway. But I do agree that with WoW, it’s not a big deal because you just hit the dungeon queue and in a couple of minutes there’s your new player. Hopefully they will have a dungeon finder tool soon.

I like that they put in an achievement for the WvW crowd. The PvE people (like me) are complaining that they don’t like coming into PvP zones to do the achievement…did you think maybe the WvW people don’t like always having to leave what they enjoy to do the achievements, too? Anet didn’t make it mandatory for the meta for a reason.

Now, the camping and griefing isn’t okay, and hopefully Anet will find a better way to implement this kind of thing in the future rather than tie it to a jp, but I like that they made an achievement that caters to the PvPers so they can have some living story fun while still doing WvW at the same time.

Aether dungeon needs radical nerfing

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Teevell.1684

The dungeon is excellent: challenging, but with just enough room for error that you’re not instantly screwed.

My only problem is that the mechanics, yet again, favour parties with lots of guardians. Tanking Mai and Horrik to get her into the circles, mass condi removal, stability, general damage mitigation… I’ve done it a few times, and the times when I’ve had 2 or more guardians in my party have been far and away the smoothest and easiest. That’s not to say it’s impossible on other classes (I myself play staff ele), or even hard if you know what you’re doing; it just tends to favour guardians.

Well, sometimes it seems like everything in this game favors guardians, but I’m pretty sure that’s just because guardians are one of the strongest professions in the game, especially in a group setting. But that’s also what they’re built for, so it makes sense that they make group content easier.

On another note, after reading most of this thread, I think a lot of the problem is not the dungeon (because the mechanics aren’t hard to learn, “dodge this, jump here, cleanse that, etc.” is not hard to memorize, though those jumps on the lasers can be a bit hard if you’re a short-legged asura like I play ^_~) but people not knowing how to adapt their profession to the situation. We get used to using the same skills over and over again. I know I have my standard utility bar, and there’s very little variation on which skills I use for the most part. But if you know your profession inside and out, you’ll be able to trouble-shoot when unfamiliar challenges come along. Heck, I forgot to bring condition clearing on my engi when I did this dungeon, which explains why I died a couple of times. I hadn’t used it in so long I totally forgot I even had it.

So, if you haven’t switched weapons and utility skills on your profession since level 30, now might be a good time to go back and re-acquaint yourself with your other weapons and skills. You might find something useful in there.

After this whole RNG thing, I think they’re going to end up losing money because a lot of us just won’t be buying those chests anymore, and a few of the really frustrated won’t be buying -anything- with real money ever again. If they had just offered the tickets for $10 in the gem store, they probably would have made a lot more money. Yes, some would have bought gems with gold, but there are a lot of people who would have just said “You know what, ten bucks isn’t bad and I don’t feel like grinding the gold to buy the gems, I’ll just buy one now.” Instant gratification is a powerful thing. Ten bucks may not seem like much, but if you have thousands of people buying them, that adds up. I would have spent the ten bucks, but I didn’t plop down money for the RNG chests during this event.

And they really should have made these tickets tradable, would have kept a lot of people from getting so angry, because even if they weren’t lucky, they could still just buy a ticket.

I made a pretty lengthy post maybe a week or two ago about how wrong you are. If Anet thought that selling the skins would make more money, that’s what they would have done. As lordkrall said, they’ve been doing this since Halloween and people keep buying the rnd chests, so it clearly makes them money.

Edit to rephrase and make more sense: I worked in a bank, and I would spend most of my day telling people how to make more money. I showed them percentage rates, calculated interest earned…and they still kept doing the same old thing. Businesses make bad financial decisions all the time, so just because they aren’t doing it doesn’t mean it wouldn’t make more money. There could be lots of other factors going into their RNG decision.

You people will not change my opinion of this…. There is a difference between PvP’ing people and killing them, and griefing people… They should NOT have stuck a Jumping Puzzle in the WvW area, it’s as simple as that…. It is content designed to grief players who come there only for an achievement. PvE Players are FORCED to PvP… It’s a terrible setup, and only the people who agree with this are the same people who get their nut off on the idea of griefing other players like this Piece of Skritt content.

You don’t have to do the achievement. And I don’t even know where this puzzle is, and I won’t do it because I hate jumping puzzles, so not everyone who is fine with it is a griefer.

Don’t worry guys, Dragon weapon skins really ugly.
A few days ago bought 500 coffers and got 4 tickets from the first 100 coffers.
Still can’t realise what to buy – dislike all skins…

Hilarious how people who hate the skins always get insane luck. I was expecting that to happen to me during Last Stand with the Southsun crates, given that I hated those weapons.

Situations like this really make me wish you could sell the things.

At least then there would be a finite way of working up to the price and buying one. I’m really frustrated with the quite frankly criminal drop rate for these things. I’ve opened so many, spent much more than my usual casual allotment of weekly hours grinding for the chests, and I have nothing to show for it but candy and fireworks coming out of every orifice.

What a waste of some great skins. As someone who has bought the CE, gems, art books, novels and plushes, the RNG practice of ArenaNet (or NCsoft living vicariously through them) has really soured my opinion of the game of late. Cosmetics are one of my main drives in the game, so I abhor this kind of artificial enforcement of rarity. I’ve never spent real money on what I find to be wasteful or unethical items in the gem store – consumables and RNG chests primarily – and I encourage everyone else who hates the practice not to spend real money on these types of items in the future, but this whole event has put me off buying anything else, RNG or not. I know I’ll just be indirectly supporting more of this crap.

After this whole RNG thing, I think they’re going to end up losing money because a lot of us just won’t be buying those chests anymore, and a few of the really frustrated won’t be buying -anything- with real money ever again. The last boss went down just as I was thinking to myself “Oh please don’t make me go through another phase of cannons”, so I guess it was just long enough. And since it was my first time (and most of our first times), I expected the dungeon to be challenging, to take a little while and require me to play at my best (which ain’t that great to begin with, but still got through it thanks to great group—so i think part of many people’s problems are a bad group). Why does everyone expect their first time in a new dungeon to be easy? Bug-free, yes (though when has that ever happened) but not easy. I liked it, even though I did die a couple of times. Actually wish my group had gone a bit slower so I could have looked around a bit more.

Just to throw in my thoughts again. I made a much longer post several pages back, but the key points. As a reminder, I’m not a fan of the rnd boxes, but I understand why Anet does it and it is one of the better alternatives (but I still would appreciate a way a way to get it outside of rnd, like dungeon tokens. heck even dragon ball wins if the afkers could be controlled).

1) Anet is not going to make them available in the gem store, period. They would make no money (most people would just farm the gold and buy the skin, and before you say, well I’d throw them a bone and buy 2 skins, that is inconsequential to the amount of money that they would lose). <insert the other ~3 reasons I’ve been repeating since the start of the event>.

2) If you NEED this skin to have fun, what were you doing for the previous 8 months. Were you not having fun? If they didn’t make any dragon skins, would you not have fun?

Do I want a couple of skins, sure. Have I gotten one yet, nope. Then again I haven’t opened many coffers, and haven’t bothered to keep track. But getting a skin does not dictate how much fun I have in this game.

I think the problem isn’t that we need the skin to have fun, but that we wanted to have fun getting the skin. The RNG gamble is not fun at all.

No, Zenith, I suffer from a problem where I try and be as honest as possible.

You don’t lie but nor are you telling the full truth. That’s not being honest.
Well as a matter of fact you also lie once.

1.You can get a wing skin from Achievements
No you can’t.

2. a random drop
Which about as likely, if not less likely than, winning in lottery. ( compare the number of gw2 players to the number of avaible wings in TP)

3. can buy candy from the TP
valid point since you can just buy the wings directly from TP.

4. loot them from chests,
Same as 2.

or from Holographic mobs.
Same as 2.

The wings aren’t a problem because of 3. But the RNG boxes are nothing short of a scam.

For your number one, did something change, because last time I checked the reward for getting the meta achievement was the wings?

100k candies for wings? O.o

in Dragon Bash

Posted by: Teevell.1684

Teevell.1684

Still more content that may provide candies as rewards?

Even so let’s say that each upcoming new content mission or such gave out a FULL STACK OF ZHAITAFFY (250) and we still have 4 locked achievements, let’s say there is 10 quests or whatever that you can do which will reward 250 for the first time you complete them. From those first time rewards from 10 quests still only give you 2500 candies. You still need 97500 candies.

Now let’s say if they added in a dungeon that gave 250 candies for first time completion or even as end reward no matter what. You’d have to re-run said dungeon 400 times for 100k taffies.

Or even looking for other various possibilities that each of the locked achievements gave out 10 jorbreakers each, you’d still need 60 jorbreakers, 60,000 taffies.

No matter how you look at it, the numbers are terrible.

From all the other crappy mmo’s I’ve played, I’ve never seen something like this where you needed to trade in 100k items for a single item. Maybe if it were gold or some kind of common currency in the game which would be the equivalent of 10million or so (you can’t compare taffies to common currency due to the large gap between them. You sell an item and could get 1000coins or so, but in GW2 you get 1 taffy per monster (if it drops it).

At least, if you work for it, you’ll get the wings. You could spend this whole month grinding and not get a weapon skin. And considering how cheap the candies are on the AH, and how often they drop, plus the piniattas, I think the wings are pretty doable, and I bet most people who wanted them will have them by the end of this.

I have a strange feeling that you are more likely to get a weapon ticket from a coffer than someone managing to grind out 100k taffies.

Upon further thought, it is a bit harder than I imagined at first. But you can also get the wings from the achievement, or just buy them from the AH. And the candies are being sold at the AH too, I think I’ve already sold about 300 or so, and I only play about three hours a day, and I wasn’t grinding for them. Between going around killing stuff, both holograms and monsters out in the world, the pinatas, future events that will probably give them out, and getting some from the AH (because while you’re grinding mobs for coffers, you’re also getting coin), I think it’s doable by the end of the month at least. And by that point you may have even gotten the achievement set as well.

Exactly. The thing I love most about this game is its attitude towards co-operative play. Never before have I -not- been happy to see other players in a zone. If I wanted to camp, I’d get off my computer and go outside. And considering pretty much everything else in this game works in the exact opposite way these holograms do, I really don’t understand how this happened. I don’t have to compete for ore nodes, trees, or herbs. I don’t have to tag a mob first to loot it. Whoever designed this needs to be reminded of these facts. Now I’m not gonna quit playing, etc., but this is the first time I’ve been really disappointed in this game, at least enough to come rant on the forums.

Lets lose the downed = bad player stigma

I think most of my downed states are from trying to help other downed people. I think most of the problem comes from hold-over from other MMOs, people not adjusting to this game. Downed is not a bad thing (well, some professions downed states are a bad thing, but that’s another discussion), we all just have to learn how to use it. One strategy has been mentioned here already: focus on the lowest health mob so they can rally, it’s often faster than trying to rez. Another strategy is to have one person focused on rezzing, while everyone else focuses the mob to distract them. But something that I see all the time is people try to rez the wrong person. You’ve got one still downed and fighting, and another that’s dead…and they try to rez the dead one first. I’ve had to tell people to leave me and rez someone else. Plus if you’re dead, you’ve got nothing better to do than call stuff out. If you see the big attack is coming, let the party know. If you see someone go down, and no one else seems to notice, say so.

But yeah, downed is a part of the game, we need to learn to use it properly.

Loosing interest in GW2 Dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

I think part of the problem is the dungeon-farming mentality brought from other MMOs. You ran dungeons every day for months, of course you’re going to be bored of them. The thing is, in this game, you didn’t need to do that. The entire game is the end game, there’s no need to blitz to max level in GW2, that’s why Southsun Cove is an 80 zone, you can jump right in (it won’t be easy for you, but I just leveled two characters in that place, went from 60-80 and 40-60). I really don’t think these dungeons are meant to be done every single day. You finish the ones you need for armor skins you want, get your achievement, then after that you do it if you want to, not because you have to.

[TC] Looking for guild

in Guilds

Teevell.1684

I’ve got a couple of 80s and I’ve been playing casually since the game came out. I like PvE and PvP (not WvW so much, didn’t like the endless zergs). My favorite parts of the game are those massive events in Orr, friendly dungeon runs (I’m pretty sure this game wasn’t designed for running CoF path 1 a hundred times a day), and hanging out with people.

I’m basically looking for a guild that enjoys actually playing the game together, is social and mature. I don’t want a guild that only does planned events, or where the guild chat is crickets. It’s just been a little disheartening to join a guild and see that, whenever someone asks if anyone wants to come do a dungeon, or hang out in an area of the game, no one responds.

Anyway, send me a whisper or post/message me here, I’d love to make some new friends.

We’re starting our Role Play Wednesday events today, May 8th, at 3-5pm server time (6-8pm EST). We’ll be at the Commodore’s Manor in Lion’s Arch (near the fountain) to hang out and share stories of our recent adventures. Anyone is welcome to come by and join us, even if you’re just looking for a few minutes of IC fun between fractal runs.

anyone here is not 80 yet?

Max rank is actually around 65, but you have to farm hotjoin/custom arenas all day to get there so soon…80 will take a lot of time, as it should be in a game called guild wars..

^_^ Don’t pve at all, do you?

I Don’t get any of that in Spvp, maybe it’s not as prevalent there. Or maybe I have a nice server, is spvp restricted to your server only?

We’re not that big yet, since we’re new, but the Tyria Adventurers Society is a PvE/light RP guild on TC. You can check out our website at tyriaas.enjin.com. We don’t have any representation requirements, either, we just ask that you’re fun, mature, and active. Either way, good luck with finding a guild.

I agree with RedJustice, this game is built around playing with other people and joining a guild is a great way to make it more exciting. The nice thing about this game is you can belong to multiple guilds, so you can try some out without having to commit to just one.

My guild is new-ish (we’ve got some upgrades already), are on TC, and is for the more casual player. We’re looking for people who want to play all aspects of the game and have fun. You can check out our website at http://tyriaas.enjin.com and send me a whisper, pm, in-game mail if you want more information.

Good luck with your guild search!

Looking for guild that may not exist

My guild is pretty new, so we’re looking for new members. We’re on Tarnished Coast, which is the unofficial NA RP server. Here’s our website if you want to take a look: http://tyriaas.enjin.com/home

While we’ll probably do dungeons and such, I plan on having at least one or two events a month focus on wandering around Tyria, completing events and just enjoying the game world. Feel free to PM me if interested, though I’m not sure what server you’re on, or if you’re looking for a guild with lots of people in it. Either way, good luck!

Want to explore the deepest parts of the darkest dungeons? Then join the Tyria Adventurers Society! At least you won’t die alone.

The Tyria Adventurer’s Society [TAS] is a new-ish PvE guild (with a dash of RP thrown in) on the Tarnished Coast server. We’re hoping to recruit fun, active people who enjoy all aspects of the game (though the guild’s focus is mostly on PvE activities, if we get a lot of people who want to, we’ll move into PvP as well). We’ve already got a few upgrades, including an emblem and stash. RP isn’t required, but it’s something we enjoy from time to time.
