Simply use software to change the functionality of the spacebar, such as AutoHotKey. If you have macro enabled hardware, simply set a macro key to press spacebar.

Be careful with macros as ANet bans any macro that uses more than a single keystroke.

No this is so dumb!
When I do long jumps I like holding down the spacebar!
That is how I play games that have Jump…
Why should I be forced to change how I play because of this broken system?
Double-tap spacebar should be gliding, NOT this stupid hold space crap…

This is PC gaming… At least give us options ArenaNet =(
Let us decide if we want to hold spacebar, or double-tab spacebar, or keybind it for gliding so everyone is happy!

A key binding would have been nice for gliding early on but if they changed the glide key now there would be lots of people crashing if they changed it. Players are used to the jump button being the glide button. It would take weeks for people to get used to it if they are active players. It would be better if they did a key binding to disable/enable gliding globally while keeping the gliding on the jump key but there would still be people forgetting it was disabled.

I do miss being able to fire the bow with my ranger during mid jumps though. It’s harder to do that with the glide.

The raised area with the trees on Frostgorge Sound by where the Claw of Jormag event happens would make a great spot for a snow truffle farm. Pull back the invisible barrier and drop a tight grouping of snow truffle nodes. Throw in a champ grawl to keep an eye on it.

ABML Fix?

Or you know, you could be slightly less biased and realize that the sheer amount of gold/loot generated by this is so far out of line from the rest of the game that it needs to be changed.

Removing the “Multi-Loot” part of the exploit is the most simplistic fix for the problem. 1 Loot session per hour is not that crippling. It will push you into other maps/map cycles and get them running like those zones are meant to be done.

I’m just trying to offer a constructive suggestion that keeps the event and the culture that has sprung up around it while reducing the impact on the economy to counter the few vocal people who are biased against it calling for it to be nuked.

Because with such a long timer, that will exclude more players who don’t play during the 4 hour window and for a map wide meta, that’s not right. It’s not like it’s a world boss.

It may not be officially a world boss but it should be considered one. It might not be a flashy dragon but it is a single (plant) creature that has other creatures defending it while the players attack the target. That sounds like a world boss to me.

The problem is that limiting the rewards per event will kill participation in the map. ML is what draws people to it. Without ML the event will likely fail more often than not giving few if any rewards because few people will be there to do it. The more it fails the less people will attend creating spiral to the map being mostly empty. A good example is when Halloween and Wintersday hit the level of people doing ABML fell to the point where the events would fail completely. If there is no reason for experienced players to attend then it’ll mostly be a uncoordinated group of players doing it. Experienced players will go back to boss trains.

It would be better to change it to every four hours to limit it so it stays popular but the over all impact on the game economy is reduced.

I was doing some more thinking on my idea. If they created a gap in the AB meta they could fill it with repeatable Renown Hearts that are only available in that gap. Things like repairing parts of the city, reducing creature populations, delivering supplies for the pending meta, etc. They could pull some of the existing minor events together and convert them to Renown Hearts.

Recently, the number of AFK players during the event seems to be increasing.

I agree. It’s one thing to step away for a few to take care of business but I see many campers that never move until the event is over.

They could always fill it in the gap with smaller events or maybe even a mini-meta. I really think a gap in there would help people focus on doing map completes and mastery points. The meta can be distracting to players trying to find their way around the map.

Does anyone know what form the fix will be for ABML?

I really wish they wouldn’t totally nerf it because I think many people enjoy the event. It’s really grown into a sort of community event.

One thing I’ll admit about it is that it’s time consuming. I would suggest that they change the timing of it from every 2 hours to every 3 or even 4 hours. This would reduce it’s impact on the economy drastically yet still allow people to enjoy the rewarding event. It would also give people more time to do other activities in AB and in the game.

The timing could be changed by creating a gap from the time the looting stops to the time the watch posts start to be activated.

Map creating system sucks

Tekoneiric.6817

I have that problem on Dragon’s Stand a lot which is why I rarely do that event. Showing up early doesn’t help because of the way the map shuts down and kicks people. I wish they would take that map out of the daily reward rotation. LFG doesn’t help if the maps are full. I think what they should have done with that map is have each direction be a different map instance.

It gets a little crazy on Auric Basin to with the meta. People get map close notices during the meta. I think what they need to do with most maps is look at trends across the day, week to day and maybe calendar rather than just player counts to project possible needs. Sort of like writing labor schedules.

[Suggestion] Active story creature changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tekoneiric.6817

Tekoneiric.6817

I was thinking that what would be interesting with maps that have risen creatures like the Ore maps is to make it where if someone has the personal story active have it where players see the current risen creatures and if they have LWS2/HoT content active they see mordrem creatures and if they are in LWS3 show post HoT creatures.

The players could be in the same map but the creature maps, sounds and such would be visible on the local client. It would require a revamp of some of the content and dialog. Risen chickens could become pocket raptors. Other risen dead could become destroyers, larger ones could become creatures that washed up from Ember Bay.

I think even plants could be indexed based on the current story in the player’s view. Everyone would get the same content and maps, just textures, sounds and dialog would be different. On Sparkfly Fen, Tequatl the Sunless could become Primordius touched to show a shift in allegiances to Primordius.

I think this would freshen up those maps while not making huge changes other than tweaking some events to be more genetic in a way that would fit the active story. If a player changed their active story they wouldn’t see a change until they reloaded the map.

It would be funny to see players talking about undead creatures/event when other players see some creature/event differently. They already do some amount of it on other maps with the Bloodstone visions or the arrow damage on Jormag’s tooth.

What I would like to see is hero selection from our toons/characters we’ve built and equipped.

It depends entirely on the context and on the intent. There have been a few times when I’ve told someone that they are done with the game, because they so very obviously are.

Those are the posts where someone is basically saying that they have done everything that they wanted to do and are now just bored.

That is one of the only non-insulting uses of it. That’s not really telling them to go away but suggesting something to get their interest until new content is available.

While I agree with this suggestion I think it might take a larger overhaul of the system to do this. It’s to embedded into core part of the game with professions having different armor types.

Maybe if there is ever a GW3 I wish they could make it where all professions can use the same armor and weapons but have movement and proficiencies to the professions factor into modifiers. Like a warrior could move faster in heavy armor than a mesmer.

If a player is unhappy with this game for whatever reason, its extremely unlikley that Anet is going to change the game just to suit the unhappy player, so the options are to keep playing the game and stay unhappy or find a better game , so the suggestion to play another game is the best option available.

Telling people they should play another game is just a way to dismiss the person’s suggestion or opinion in a passively aggressive way.

Of course I don’t have a problem with people saying why something wouldn’t or would work but to tell someone to go (away) to another game is just harsh. I would think that most people are more than capable of deciding if a game has enough to keep them there or move on but to prod them to go away is rude.

Crafting ascended items as gifts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I feel like people are misunderstanding me. Ok, GW2 is a complex game and I have a friend that has ADD. They can’t play for long without getting distracted, usually only plays it when they get in the rare mood and mostly wonders around PvE. The person isn’t an achievement hunter. I understand all these steps that people keep saying however as people say “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink”. If someone can’t focus to follow those steps then no amount of pointing them at the crafting guides will help. I just think that it would be nice to be able to gift crafted ascended items people who have been on your friends list for awhile. It wouldn’t kill the game economy. It would just be a nice gift for someone that doesn’t have the wherewithal to follow the steps.

My thing is giving a gift to a loved one who is a casual player and doesn’t have the time, patience and focus to craft to 500 in the short term.

I really don’t understand why ascended items are account bound or even any weapon/armor for that matter. If legendary weapons can be sold on the BL store then why can’t ascended? When doing discovery I’ve accidentally crafted weapons that were exotic and account bound. It wasn’t something I could use and I couldn’t sell it. I had no choice but to salvage it or it was just sit taking up space. I really don’t see any valid reason why crafted items should be account bound.

My thought about the year on a friends list is if they absolutely have to be account bound then time on the friends list could be used as a way to filter out gifts from black market sales of crafted items. Few if any black market sellers would have the patience to wait a year for a sell. I’ve never accidentally removed anyone from my friends list. Accidentally added yea (thanks LFG tool) but never removed.

Tekoneiric.6817

I was farming with my engineer and it got me thinking that it’s kind of a shame that the class relies so much on kits for weapons. With the profession as it currently is there will never be a ascended or legendary flamethrower, mortar or the various other weapon kits.

If they ever revamp the class I think it would be interesting if they converted some of the weapon kits into real weapons and replace the kits with a unified kit that provides alternate ammo or functions such as flamethrower/cold gun, rifle/portal gun, etc

I’m sure there are many reason why they wouldn’t/couldn’t do this. I’m just throwing this out there.

Can we get the ability to use our headgear skins while using outfits. I typically use the Shadow Assassin outfit with a few of my characters and wish I could use the glowing bloodstone eyes instead of the mask that comes with the outfit. I kind of wish headgear and eyewear was separate but I’m sure that would be more complex than just allowing the player to select which headgear is visible.

Also I wish they would make a change on the female version of the Shadow Assassin outfit. There is this huge bow in the back that clips stowed weapons. I wish that was removed and replaced with the rope being tied in the front of the outfit with a smaller rope sections that hangs down from a tight knot. Or it could be replaced with a braided rope belt of sorts that buckles at the front. I think either of these would be more in line with the style of the outfit.

I grinded early in the year to get my auto-loot. I really think this should be a basic feature because there are lots of people who have disabilities that this would help because they would need to hit fewer keys. If they made it a basic feature they could replace the mastery level for this with something else. It’s part of the commander mastery so why not replace it with the ability to command GW1 style henchmen in Fractals, Dungeons and Raids so players could solo them easier.

Also with the passes and portal scrolls they are taking up way to much room on the shared inventory slots. I would suggest either a unified scroll that pops up a menu of unlocked destinations or put unlocked icons across the top of the screen beside the PvP icon. With either one I would like both the Home and Hall of Monuments added too.

There was two different chests with merchants inside them. It’s happened a lot over the last month. Trolling or not; an exclusion zone would stop this.

This is a prime example of players dumping merchants and other items inside chests so other players can’t access them. In this case there was no way to click on the chest that would give a player access to it because of the merchant. The merchant was dropped there tonight sometime before 10:22pm Central US Time.

I wish the devs would put exclusion zones around chests, nodes, NPCs, etc to prevent dropping things on top of them. I couldn’t report it in game because I don’t know which player dropped it plus it would have kept me from getting other chests which would have pleased the troll.

Troll players on Octovine

Tekoneiric.6817

It’s just speculation on my part. Maybe some players are purposely causing fails to deal with the the perceived multi loot exploit that Anet hasn’t dealt with in a satisfactory manner one way or another.

I’ve thought it might be people against multi-loot trying to drive the ecto prices up during the game holiday. The only way to counter a couple of players burning a direction is to keep the easy burn directions up high enough that it requires more than a few players to kill the vine. East is always quick to burn down low so they can help south. Somewhat with North (helping west) also. West and south burning early is probably just overzealous players caught up in the fight. Players from north helping west tend to cut north short at times leaving just players not paying attention.

This morning we almost lost a map because players on north weren’t paying attention. A few of us managed to get the gate burned in the last few seconds while others were camping in safe spots.

If you see it happening again, take screen shots and submit a report to ANet. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s trolls or if it’s people who don’t understand the mechanic. Although the content is old by MMO standards (> 1 year), it’s new to new players and even some veterans who never bothered with it before.

Yes it is hard to tell if they are trolling or just new. Once in a while I can understand but happening multiple times a night on consecutive days during a game holiday. As they say, once just happens, twice is a coincidence but three times is a pattern.

I was just suggesting a defensive strategy that would prevent burning maps on purpose or even accident. East is always fast to burn down to a low percentage which makes it ripe for one or two people to easy burn it early. Most of the time North makes a good push afterwards which puts it in the same boat. Keeping east at 50% until south and west are below 50% would help prevent that.

For the last week during American night time we seem to have had trolls burning east to early causing the vines to regenerate. A couple of times they burned east early then after regen they went north to burn it early too. This may or may not be the same people dropping merchants and toys on the large chests the last month.

I would suggest that anyone doing octovine to not burn east or other directions below 50% until other directions get low enough to avoid one or two troll players from burning a vine early.

I know this will get shifted off to another sub forum. I put it here for visibility.

I wish they would upgrade the minis to do something other than follow you around. Some could play little games with you, some could interact with other players minis, others like a mini-pig could offer truffle bonuses when gathering, bunny for extra carrots, etc. There are lots of possibilities that would add value to them in the game. They still need to add a mini-me that looks like a smaller version of the player’s character. I’d like to see some minis usable as a distraction in combat. Use the right mini while in combat with specific creatures could have specific reactions either from the mini or the creature. I can see limiting it to PvE only but the possibilities are there for lots of fun and discovery.
