Being someone who hasn’t raided previously in GW2, I’d like to get into it. But honestly the vibe I have gotten across the board has been that its pretty much out of the question unless you are lucky enough to find a “training” group. I looked in LFG and it was pretty much only wanting exp players.
Am I missing that much if I don’t get to experience raiding?
My main gripe is about raids is the same as dungeons and fractals. To many high strung types are drawn to them. ANet seems to go out of their way to lock content and rewards behind forced multi-player instances because they assume everyone wants or should to be social. PvE is about as social as many people want to be. Going into pressure cooker instances is very stressful for some people like myself. Plus there is finding people to join a group when your ready to play.
It’s easy for some people to say that you don’t have to do it but if you want specific achievements, unlocks or rewards it’s your only choice.
I unfortunately have had to do Ascalonian Catacombs so I can get Ascalonian Tears to make the Nightfury Skin. My experiences haven’t been the best.
I really wish ANet would give us a version of heroes (controlled NPCs) like GW1 that we can use for dungeons and raids. You could fill the player slots with real players or heroes. If we could use our own characters for the hero slots we could equip and build them to our needs.
^If they bundled the Living World Seasons with the expansions (at an increased price), there would possibly be ‘concerns’ from new players that purchased said bundle, and then found out they could have acquired the LW Seasons at no cost through the Gold-to-Gems exchange.
If they bundled it they shouldn’t increase the price. The point is to entice more new players. They’ll make it up in increased gem sales down the road.
Well, to be fair. Commander is in no position to get a homestead for Dragon watch right now, Dragon’s Watch is literally in shambles, everyone either is avoiding commander, occupied or throwing temper tantrum, the active member is just the commander and…….. Taimi count as half? I think?
True. I’m not overly impressed how they hyped up Dragon’s Watch only to let it fall apart in LWS3.
I wasn’t very hyped on mounts but they added the GW2 twist to them which makes them worth it.
One thing I’m really disappointed with is the lack of a homestead option. I have previously suggested a way to do this is to have a story where the player along with the other members of Dragon’s Watch capture a special guild hall intended to serve as a player customizable space and story hub for future stories. Players could interact with other members of Dragon’s Watch on a regular basis.
I mean, they already sweetened the pot by giving a discounted price when you buy both games together. You could have also unlocked both seasons by just logging in, even if you didn’t have HoT. You can also just gain gold by playing the game and convert that in game gold to gems to buy the living world episodes if you don’t want to spend more money.
I have them unlocked myself already. I’m just thinking it would better serve ANet’s interests to lure new players to the franchise.
While posting something to my FB page about the expansions I was thinking that they would get more new players to pre-purchase the combined HoT and PoF if they sweetened the pot to included LWS2 and LWS3 unlocks with it.
I found out when I was at the elder wood tree farm. I was like “wait, what?”
It’d probably be better as it’s own map because it could be set post HoT/LWS3. The water opening out of LA could be used as a transition zone like the vapor portals to allow players to access it.

I’d like to see something done with Claw Island to make it accessible. Put a waypoint there and expand it to include some of the islands to the south and west or merge it with the Bloodtide Coast map. There are maps that slightly larger than the combined map.
Some events could be added to make it interesting. Events like karka and pocket raptors threatening to invade Lion’s Arch. If the map was expanded to include the islands then pirate attack events could be used. Daytime karka and pocket raptors, foggy night time pirate attacks.
Not So Secret is way harder than Chalice of Tears. I rather enjoyed the Chalice of Tears JP. It is painful but in a fun way. I usually use my engineer to do JPs because the jump shot allows me to jump small gaps and hit the target directly.
All the scrolls go into the tome, double click the tome and you are told how to add them. Only one spot taken up. It got me to go back and buy all of the zone scrolls and put them in so I have quick access to each.
I’ve been looking at the monitor to long. I over looked the simple stuff. lol
It’d be nice if they would add a moon cycles in Tyria. That way some periods would be darker than others. They could even trigger certain events on the darkest periods. Players have to run around lighting torches along paths and roads. They could make it where creatures eyes shine in the dark.
Thank you for your work on this. Your effort is appreciated greatly!
Here are some notes on how we chose what:
• No SAB Baubles and Bubble Baubles. I spoke with the SAB designers and this is a
technical limitation with how that stuff all works in SAB.
I would think this would be better put in the account wallet than crafting storage. Maybe who ever is in charge of the account wallet needs to break it up into categories like crafting storage. Things like Core , Map currencies, Special Events/Holidays, etc.
I like the Captain’s Airship Pass because it’s right over the Vigil Keep asura gate to Fort Trinity. Get your characters at the story level where they can use it and it gives you a free jump to Orr. I think it’s the best to have because of this. Plus there is an large flat area directly under the airship that you can drop down to and test things on characters or take pose shots of your characters with the Shiverpeaks in the background.
Oh, and since the engi-farm is now defunct, how about beefing engi’s up? I never played mine because it was ineffective and not overly fun.
I find the scrapper engineer best for farming. They are great at the run, grab and get away. As far as fighting there is some areas like Verdant Brink where the engineer is more effective than a ranger. I typically use rocket boots, flame thrower, a turret and sneak gyro; sometimes a supply crate. Drop a turret then rocket boot around with the flame thrower attacking.
I haven’t been to Lake Doric in months and I typically play with my engineer. I wasn’t that impressed with the map; especially that “farm”. I know their recent turret change kind of messed up my play style. I typically do a multi-vector attack with my eng. I would drop a turret in a hoard of enemies and over charge it from time to time while I’m attacking from different directions.
Having multiple computers (using synergy across them) I typically play the game while browsing or watching a show. I’m not afk and in active control of my character but I do reply on the character auto attacking to smooth out the attacks from time to time as my mouse is on another PC.
I just don’t understand why ANet has to nerf something every time the odd group of players complain about other players finding some advantage in line with the rules of the game. Nerfing popular things is a waste of time and resources plus it tends to push players away. Some players like myself like the gathering aspect during the lulls between new content.
Instead of nerfing things I wish they would freshen up core Tyria up a bit to keep it interesting.
I suggested this before but I really think that since the player is part the guild with the story NPCs then there should be a mission with Dragon’s Watch to capture a guild hall. It could use the same basic mechanics as the regular guild hall but give the player more leeway to upgrade it. The Dragon’s Watch guild hall could be a central focus for future story elements and interactions with the NPCs. They could either reduce the cost of that guild hall upgrades or have the NPC characters bring daily resources just as human players would. It’d give people the homestead option many have been wanting. Plus they could mirror their home instance upgrades to the Dragon’s Watch guild hall. I’d really like to see a section of it as Taimi’s lab that she says is to keep her inventions away from Phlunt.
Sounds interesting.
I just wish they would do a skin system for the tools. Buy a unlimited/unbreakable tool and unlock it’s skin for use on all tools of the same type. It could just be an extension of the wardrobe system. I thought they were going to do this when they released the generic unbreakable tools. They could do a skin unlock credit for players who have multiple versions of the same tool.
For the Engineer have the stow weapon hotkey also stow active kits such as flamethrower.
Doesn’t the “swap weapon” button work to put away any active kit, just as it does any other environmental weapon?
I was referring to the stow weapon hotkey, not the swap hotkey.
I was thinking about the dual professions in GW1. I thought of an easy way to implement a pseudo second profession by using the upgrade slots on weapons. A medallion or sigil of another profession could be attached to the weapon to make the weapon and skills of one profession usable on another. Sigil of the ranger, engineer, warrior, thief, etc.
The sigil or medallion could be an ascended item. It could even be limited to single-handed/off-hand weapons. I think it would be interesting to run a thief dagger or thief pistol skill off-handed on the engineer.
For the Engineer have the stow weapon hotkey also stow active kits such as flamethrower.
OLA would have to be fixed in the world but rather more like the PvP lobby.
It would be easy for them to update Orr. All they would have to do is adjust some of the events so they can accommodate players looking at different graphics and dialog. Anyone with an active story beyond the personal story could see a brighter Orr with lush plants, a mix of risen (driven by the few remaining lieutenants of Zhaitan) and destroyers. They could replace the risen chickens gfx with pocket raptors since they behave somewhat alike. Maybe some Karka on the Cursed Shore on both views. It’s just a matter of indexing the gfx and dialog based on the active story plus matching up which creatures behave the same so their gfx could be replaced. They wouldn’t need to copies of the map at all just the change in perspective.
They wouldn’t have to put all the current NPCs in it. They could just put the basic LA NPCs back as it was before. After all it would be a remembrance of the past It would give new players a chance to look at the former LA also rather than the glimpses from the personal story. They could overlay it with the old film effect from the Aviator’s Memory Box.
(edited by Tekoneiric.6817)
I’m running around part of old Lion’s Arch in the personal instance on one of my characters. I really wish they would give us a way to go into old map in the game. Maybe through a remembrance portal stone that takes us into a shared map of it maybe with access to Claw Island via a NPC in OLA also. I’d pay 1000 gems for it. Would anyone else?
I’m not sure if anyone else has thought of this but this could be an easy way for the devs to implement player housing that would fit in with the game lore. Dragon’s Watch is a guild; shouldn’t it have a guild hall?
They could use the guild hall system in place already. Each HoT player would have the Dragon’s Watch Guild show up in their guild panel. There could a story event where all the members of Dragon’s Watch capture a guild hall that would be a unique map for the event.
The dialog for it would be interesting. Taimi talking about using a space as a lab away from the prying eyes of Phlunt, Kasmeer saying she could start a garden in some open space, etc.
All the NPC members of Dragon’s Watch could have their own unique space in the guild hall tailored to them. The devs could update their space as the story progresses.
They could even allow the guild hall to be customized like any other guild hall plus allow the player to show off their rewards, armors, weapons, etc in their own personal space. The whole guild hall could have a library and a place for nodes that players have added to their home instance plus ones that would be purchased for guild halls.
It would also give the devs a way to announce current events by having the members of Dragon’s Watch to inform players about them.
have you changed anything as of late like firewall settings add a new program ? using cate5 cable ? does the game have full across via windows firewall settings too ?? are you using steam ?? do you stream music while playing ? use chat apps while playing could be a number of things giving your problems . and while you got 100mbs whats the up and down speeds do you have wifi on when you play ???
Nothing changed that would affect this. I’m a computer tech IRL and have checked everything on my side.
ok and so not sure if you been reading but i notice they got problems with your video cards leads me to wonder is it the vendors that make the -problem or the software writers that make the problems .
and since your comp tech get a load of this i got the fx 8350 4.0 no overclocking dual air cooled with cooler master 95 cfm fans and msi gfx 960 4 gig video card . and places like la and rata sum . when busy i drop to 40 fps . but yet in the world maps i hit 90 to 100 fps . and in wow i easy get 110 fps if am not in stormwind or one of the major towns . oh and my memory is 32 gigs . and have given thoughts if i was to upgrade my fx8350 cpu. with no overclocking
even tho am not a fan of water cooling . i would go with amd AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7 GHz Socket AM3+ 220W FD9590FHHKWOF Desktop Processor – Black Edition
Not everyone can go out and purchase new expensive hardware just for a game. I just bought this graphics card back in December. As previously stated the issue just started this week with the updates. Everything was working fine before. During peak hours this week the frame rates drop in a few minutes. The later in the night it takes longer to drop. I went 30 minutes in the early morning hours before the frame rates dropped. Other apps such as streaming have no problems. It has to be an issue related to the updates or something server side. When the frame rates drop to single digits the game is basically unplayable because it gives me a headache.
Just as a test of my network connection I just ran a speed test while the game is running and with the load of the game I’m getting 80Mbps down/21Mbps up.

Had the same issue, AMD 8350 16GB RAM 980ti, was barely hitting 40 FPS or lower.
Just upgraded to a AMD 1800x ankitten ow hitting 60-90 fps.
I think it might just be that the FX has really bad single core performance. Id personally suggest getting a ryzen 5, the FX is really old.
Umm, not going to happen. Got lots of other stuff going on that matters more than changing a processor/system for a game. Stuff like hail damaged cars/house and other homeowner type stuff. The game was running fine before the updates over the last week.
Has anyone noticed frame rate drops since the updates a couple of days ago? When I log in the frame rates are somewhat normal then about 10 minutes into the game the frame rates drop to single digits. Other people were commenting about low frame rates in the game yesterday.
I doubt it’s my system because I run an AMD FX 8150 (8 core 3.6Ghz) liquid cooled with 24GB of ram, NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 w/6GB and a 100Mbps connection.
Is there a way to make suggestions directly to the devs without posting them to the forum? I had an idea for something if posted public would spoil the idea.
I know it’s early for talking about Halloween but I figure any suggestions for events like that should be made early. I’d like to repeat the suggestion that some others have mentioned before. Have the Mad King bring back Old Lion’s Arch for the duration of the holiday event. Many people are nostalgic about Old Lion’s Arch and would like to revisit it outside of the personal story instances. Newer players would get a chance to explore it also. Maybe with a holiday map complete.
It could have some funny dialog such as the Mad King talking about giving the place character and some character saying something about how they had to find their old apartment but they were able to save some of their belongings they lost from when old LA was destroyed and stashing them at their parent’s house.
I have the Privateer runes on one of my characters, which summons a Parrot (actually a Tropical Bird), and when the bird’s time is up, he falls to the ground and dies. It makes me feel bad every time. I’d much rather he just pop out of existence or fade away.
Reading your comment made me think of the whale in HHGTTG.
Should and will never happen out of Class Balance/Design Reasons.
You took this post way too serious. It’s a given they wouldn’t do it that way. I was just curious what creative ideas people would post.
What kind of interesting weapon skills can you think of if all weapons were available with all professions. Like scepter w/Engineer – energy whip, energy spikes, sonic pulse to stun, and gravitational anomaly.
I just upgraded my unbreakable tools to account wide and bought three shared slots. The current system seems rather clumsy though. I have 9 toons and I swap between them often. It is very easy to forget to unequip the gathering tools before I swap. Would it be possible in future to auto equip/unequip shared tools when changing toons?
ps. I did do a search for this. Sorry if I missed something.
I just wish they would do the unbreakable tools as skins that could be changed out with skins you’ve unlocked. When they released the regular set of unbreakable tools I thought they might do this. I have gem store purchased tools across half my characters. It would be nice to be able to set the skin animation I wanted to use or just have random effects for unlocked skins.
A library is something many of us have wanted for awhile. I have so many of these items taking up space.
You can disable the back piece from being visible. I wish there was an option to make stowed weapons invisible.
I suggested this a long time ago. I don’t really care for shields as a weapon but they’d make great back items.
I’m not sure if very many run shields but I think it would be better if they converted them to specialized back pieces and gave them some kind of animation effect when combat mode. For example the valentine shield skin could pulse a translucent hearts floating around the character or pulsing on one arm like that shield boon. It would make shields a universal back item for all professions.
They were talking about updating crafting storage awhile back. Is there any idea of when the patch for this will be delivered?
What time of the year would they do it? The biggest gap is the summertime. The Grand Moot sounds like a winter event.
I’ve been seeing the words “Continuum Rift” floating just above the walking surface without anything there. I’ve only played my engineer today. Is this related to a current event?
Your problem, it seems, is that you spent way too much time exploiting the mm runs and now that it’s fixed you don’t get the same thrill. This is not a problem with the game, but a problem with your mindset. Might I recommend taking some time doing something that doesn’t involve gathering loot as the primary goal? Level an alt, do the first tier of a legendary journey, get in on a raid training run.
There is zero problem with my mindset. Each player plays for their own reasons and goals. Some play for achievements, some play for the fashion aspect, raids, legendary weapons, etc. I play to de-stress mostly. Gathering for many is an activity that relieves a lot of stress. I feel like many on here love to pounce on anyone that doesn’t have their mindset.
If raids and legendary weapons are your thing then great, I’m happy for you. Maybe I’ll do them one day but at the moment I like the gathering aspect of the game and part of that got nerfed. Imagine how you might feel if they nerfed raids. I’ve seen no shortage of people who get upset at balance changes and I never see people pouncing on them.
Also if it wasn’t for us who love the gathering aspect of the game you wouldn’t have lots of materials on the TP to buy.
My advice is make a short list of everything you might need in that zone and ensure you cross everything off in one visit; then you need never bother making the potion again.
Don’t forget the frozen snow leopard cub :-)
and the various achievements there. The POI can be achieved on any character without it but you die getting to it.
I try to never do anything in the game for the rewards. If it is not fun by itself, I prefer to do something else. That said I stoped doing the AB meta when the multiloot became the standard, because people behavior became too toxic. Now I may go back to it again.
I think the toxic attitude started when the announcement of the pending nerf hit. Many were scrambling to do it as much as they could. Had they not announced it there never would have been that crazed attitude around it. While I don’t agree with the nerf I think it should never have announced it in advance. They should have just done it and moved on. All the announcement did was hype it up as the event to do.
If you want to go there you have to spend some time preparing for it by farming for various stuff and completing at least one heart so you can get the final ingredient which you can only get once a day. Then you have to take them to a place in another part of the map to cook them into the elixir. You can only do it on characters that have completed the story step. It’s not account wide. The protection only lasts until the reset. Yea… it’s kind of ridiculous to do every time you want to go there.
(edited by Tekoneiric.6817)
I’ve done the Auric Basin meta a few times since the nerf and found it really not worth doing now. Whereas there was up to 10 to 12 maps at times with many being successful now you’d be lucky to find one successful map and it’s usually full. There might be two others which usually fail. The failing maps are so disorganized they are annoying. I’ve walked away from the event a few times and have mostly given up on it.
While I’ve spent time in other areas I find I’m actually playing the game less now; not because I’m boycotting it but rather the psychological reward feedback had dropped so much that I feel kind of blah about the game.
The rewards from the event hardly feels worth it now given that you could get mostly the same amount as the current AB meta by farming chests and maybe a few events on Bitterfrost Frontier without the need for forming groups. Doing the meta before was a scramble to get as much as you could before the timer ran out but now people just stand around at the end waiting on the timer to run out. The mad dash for gold was the real event. What’s left just feels hollow.
Has anyone done the meta since the nerf? Thoughts?
As alga said. I have 4 characters in lake doric, only 1 of which has done the story step ‘meeting of ministers’. Portal scrolls are really convenient.
Alas, I can’t really afford to use another shared inventory slot for another portal scroll. I don’t really understand why the game doesn’t unlock the zone for the account, once you’ve completed the story on at least one character (or better yet: the first chapter of the relevant episode).
Hopefully they’ll fix it after the new map smell wears off.
