The chests in the Auric Basin meta has given me them recently.
Many others along with myself have suggested this.
So you’re upset that there are invisible walls when trying to glide over a mountain, for example?
So, 99.9% of this game you don’t or wouldn’t normally be trying to break out of the map. Each map is its own instance, it’s not one continuous map separated by physical boundaries like mountains, and crossing said mountains puts you in that map. It’s just not like that. Each map is it’s own personal instance. If you’re wondering what the invisible wall is, it’s something along the lines of valve’s source sdk’s Player Clip. A good example is the picture of the fence in that link. You wouldn’t want players getting caught on every little nook and sharp edge of the fence. So the map creator placed a “player clip” aka invisible wall over the entire fence making it one smooth texture for the player to run into. More frustrating than ‘breaking immersion’ is when you’re trying to tactically retreat in a first person shooter and getting caught on the edge of a sharp brush. Between zones there is probably a large player clip preventing the player from falling out of the zone. Sure, it’s ‘immersion breaking’, but it stops you from falling out of the map and potentially crashing the client.
tl;dr invisible walls are there for a reason.
Yes, we know that it’s map based instances and not one continuous world. The point of the original post was that invisible walls breaks immersion; the illusion that you are in a seamless world.
There are plenty of games that don’t use invisible walls. They place the collision boundary at the texture point. There are plenty of creative ways to avoid invisible walls and still keep the player confined to the map. Invisible walls are a sloppy way of blocking players.
Great idea! Yeah, the same as it is solved in Rata Sum if you glide too low/close to the base of the city! That would really give an impression of continuous world more than just rubbing your face into something you cannot even see ;]
The Rata Sum thing is funny but I really wish they would just allow players to explore that lower area of the city. There are too many maps with areas that aren’t reachable and some only reachable in a story instance unless you map breakout. There is a large cave on Silverwastes that is part of the story instance for LWS2 and on Dry Top there is the area from LWS2 that is only part of the story instance. There is also a huge cavern like gap under the NE part of the map that could easily be built out into something playable. I’ve wondered if they have some sort of polygon limit on the engine.
Imagine if GW2 had some sort of player generated map system like older first person shooters. I loved the map editing/building capability on Unreal and the first Red Faction. ANet could do player linked maps as part of the Fractals or players could generate a portal scroll to send to friends in the game. They could be linked to guilds halls too.
ANet’s devs love their invisible walls. It got especially bad when gliding in Central Tyria became active. Some maps aren’t so bad but others like Frostgorge Sound that they are especially bad in. There are areas where there is sufficient terrain blocks yet the put invisible walls in place so you can’t even go up to the rock wall that would block you anyway. I can think of a couple of places where they are kind of obstructions.
I guess invisible walls are better than those horrible death walls on the HoT maps. Hit them and your dead.
What I would do instead of invisible walls and death walls is fear walls. When a player ventures to close to the edge of the maps it would give the player a message about some horrible sound and the character runs from it with a fear condition. If they don’t want players gliding out of the map then just put no gliding zones around the map borders.
Another thing they could do is if a player was good enough to break out of the map they could just have them hit a portal wall that drops them on the next map in roughly the same location they should be on that map if there is one in that direction. That would give more of an illusion of a continuous world.
I want a Taimi backpack that makes various comments as you do stuff. It should sound like it’s coming over the communicator.
I found it and for some reason it didn’t accept the Strawberry ghost even though I had eaten one. It did like the Omniberry Ghost though.
If you find it, be sure to tag up and announce it’s location to help others find it.
I want a colocal as a pet for my ranger. They could put a juvenile one in the cave where the queen appears in Dry Top.
At the very least they could just allow our pets to grow up and become veterans. Veteran Bristleback anyone?
I think the biggest problems with ABML was the announcement that it was going to be nerfed. It was going along at an even pace until the announcement then it slowly started getting frenzied more and more along with toxic behaviors until the actual nerf. People only rushed in to do it when they found out about the pending nerf.
I still say the better way would have been to find ways to slow the player’s gathering of chests down rather than what they did. If they had put in obstacles to slow the players down it would have resulted in less chests gathered. The grands needed to move around like the rest so players couldn’t map jump at the grands.
All three chest sizes used a single key to open which I think is crazy. Small one should have used a single key, great should use 2 keys and grands should use 3 keys. That would have evened out the gathering of chests. Most experienced players just ignored the small and great chests because it was more cost effective to get the grands only.
Or as it turns out, Jormag also likes to exploit a certain feature that’s on the chopping block and sabotaged Anet devs in order to squeeze a few more gold out of it. :P
Even elder dragons hell bent on world domination have a budget. Their minions don’t run on ice cubes.
I think ANet forgot to take their cold resistant elixir.
As you’re probably aware, the ArenaNet studio experienced a weather-related power outage that impacted the release timing of our February 7 update. The team is working hard on getting the build in order and out the door as soon as possible.
In light of the situation, we’re going to postpone our Reddit dev celebration. It’ll take place on February 8th in the afternoon Pacific Time. We look forward to seeing you in the game when the build goes live, and in the celebration tomorrow!
I’m curious about why they host these things on Reddit instead of your own forums?
I got some in ABML but you’d better hurry before the nerf.
I was in the egg chamber and I was thinking that it would be nice if it could be used as a neutral location second stage home instance. Have the home instance upgrades show up in there also maybe with some merchants and other items. Almost like a single player version of a guild hall. The Exalted Portal Stone would need to be switched to account bound.
Hm thanks, well that “simple fix” changes everything,AB is just worthless to do now.
I agree. I just don’t understand why people are against ABML. It’s like being against winning money in a contest. They hate big prizes so they seek to ruin it for everyone. This is why we can’t have good things…
Posts like this make me even more glad I did not participate. I would rather earn my way than ride the exploit train.
ANet folks repeatedly said it was not an exploit. The only reason it is being patched is because of complainers.
Obviously it was not as they intended it to be. One area should not be so much better than everything else at rewards. No, I am not one of the complainers either, I just think the whining is funny because people’s cash cow is going away.
There are plenty of other areas in the game to make gold. It’s not like ABML was the only place to make gold. You can easily make more doing karka farming. The coordination and race to beat the clock to loot as many chests as possible is fun in ABML. It’s not like the loot from ABML was that great. Most of it was just good enough to salvage. Less than 1/4 was worth selling. I’ve gotten better drops was roaming in other maps killing boss creatures. I got a few good drops in ABML but not many considering how many times I’ve done it.
The big driver of complaints was that it was easy to farm ecto. I’m sure many (not all) complainers have been hoping it would be nerfed so the can unload all that ecto they have.
One thing people aren’t talking about and few people doing ABML realized is that they are also nerfing the jungle plant farm by nerfing ABML. Hitting the two jungle plants at the center of Tarir for each map instance gave the player a higher chance of getting a Maguuma Lily in a short period of time.

“Nothing breaks immersion quite like…”
Invisible walls…
I wish once you unlocked a merchant you would get a merchant in the home instance that offers the same items so we don’t have to chase all over the game to find specific items.
I just wanted better optimization for AMD processors …
Agreed. Metas really push the temp up on my 8 core AMD. I’m about to switch to liquid cooling.
All the ABML nerf is going to do is cause the price of ecto to become unstable as the hoarders dump their excess and when the stocks go down ecto prices will end up as high as they were during the spring of 2016. The price of low end rares will go up also because of people salvaging for ecto. It’s going to be amusing when the people who complained about ABML start complaining about the price of ecto.
I really think this is the worse possible fix for ABML, will tank the event participation, destroy the culture that has built up around the event and reflects zero imagination on the part of those in charge of the fix. It’s basically like using a sledge to fix a bent nail.
What culture? You mean the people that would give up and cause maps to fail because it took 2 min longer than they wanted to spend on that map before multilooting? You mean the culture where multilooters would be incredibly toxic to people who were new to the meta because how dare a filthy casual come in and not be perfect at the meta already? Yea, can’t see a single reason Anet wouldn’t like the ABML “culture”
There are a few bad apples in many parts of the game. High strung players in raids or dungeons, etc. For the most part it’s a fairly calm and smooth running event. I rarely see toxic behavior in it. Sometimes yes but not nearly as bad as you let on.

I think the better choice would have been to leave it intact but complicate it and decrease how many times a day the event occurs. By inserting a 1 or 2 hour lull between the end of one meta and the start of the next they could have decreased how many times a day the event occurs and give players a chance to do other things on the map without tripping over meta challenges. To complicating it they could have raised the maze in the maze room and maybe put pocket raptors or some other creatures in the chest areas with a fairly quick respawn rate to slow people down when opening chests because beating the timer is part of the fun of the event.
I also think they should change it so that the various chest sizes require 1, 2 or 3 keys to open. This would created a challenge to keep enough keys and aurillium to open chests on ML and force players to participate in other events around the map to get them.
I agree with the OP. They need to reduce the amount of “useless” loot. The worst are the green and yellow runes and sigils. They should remove them entirely from the game…
I would be happy if they allowed us to salvage sigils and runes.
Too bad pushing out new outfits and gliders in the gem store seem to be higher prio than fixing some seemingly basic stuff in the game. :/
I think ANet makes the devs push news stuff rather than fix issues because they can make money off new things so bugs stack up.
Maybe they are trying to play the story line that the Ancient Dragons were combining their power to banish the Gods influence to the world. That the destruction of the dragons will bring back the power of the Gods!
Those gods might not be the good guys everyone remembers. Ancient people may have set the elder dragons up to consume magic to keep the more dangerous gods at bay.
Many users find the gag boxes annoying. Some players put them in places to cause the most annoyance. It would be nice to have a setting that makes the gag boxes either invisible or disabled to players who have them disabled in their settings.
Should be able to craft boosters if you ask me.
I agree. There should be chief and artificer recipes for crafting them. I’m well past 200 luck on my account and will probably max out my magic find in a few months. I’m going to have to start finding things to do with the luck I get from salvage.
They could also have a recipe for converting essence of luck to essence of unbound magic by blending it with bloodstone dust and other items that players regularly OD on.
As far as mobility goes I would say engineer as the rocket boots and jump shot make for excellent ways to get out of trouble and cross gaps. When you get HoT take the engineer to scrapper so you have the an invisible gyro that helps big time on farming. If you run into combat just pull out the flame thrower and make some BBQ. Before gliding in core Tyria I left someone on one side of a gap trying to figure out how I got across.
If they do Lake Doric it would be nice if they would just connect it with core Tyria without gated access. They had us pay for shared slots but they are eating them up with portal scrolls. They need to replace those portal scrolls with something that pops up a menu of destinations.
When they nerf ABML the leather problem is going get even worse unless they setup a way to farm leather elsewhere. Bitterfrost frontier is an ok place to farm it but you have to keep hitting that map for icebound chests over and over.
Maybe except a golemance would work elsewhere. Asura ripping off other races, teaching them for a high price >:)
boom explained.
Except that they don’t. The only golemancers in the game are Asura. Smart Asura sell their services rather than their technology. I’m sure after Scarlett they are even more guarded with their technology.
I would love to see race specific professions such as Asura golemancer.
Has anyone noticed lag lately in the game. I’ve had it off and on for the last couple of weeks but it got worse in the last 24 hours. Pings will go up to 500ish and frame rates will drop to near 1 for a few minutes then it’ll go up close to normal only to go back down. I tried it across two different ISPs and got the same result. I’m in North America and my account is on Devona’s Rest.
ANet has already mentioned that they will make this more farmable (aka cheaper) in the future on reddit. This was mentioned alongside the AB Multiloot nerf that will come.
Nobody knows when exactly but if you wanna wait you can probably save a lot of gold.
is reddit the official GW2 forums now and not this place? i confused.
It seems like it. It’s always a shocker when I see a post or reply from an actual ANet person here.
I really wish we could make more changes to our home instances such as moving nodes where we want them, purchasing bigger nodes, displaying items. I prefer to use the Norn home instance. I wish I could move my wintersday tree and nodes to the mezzanine where the hylek are. Having the tree in the center with all the nodes around it would look awesome.
It would be nice if we could upgrade our exalted chest to great then grand size along with getting rich nodes.
Complaining about dailies that take minutes to do? As to the distance; it’s best to learn the cheapest/free paths to get across the world.

There are a couple of ways to farm for hardened leather sections, AB meta and Bitterfrost Frontier. You can hit the chests in Bitterfrost Frontier after each storm cycle. It’s easy to fill up your bags there and salvage for leathers.
When I saw this post I immediately thought of an old game called “Lost Dutchman Mine” from the Amiga days. There was a PC version also. You would fish a lot in that game.
The fishing starts at 1:55.
Even if you remember to feed your eaters every single day, it still takes months to consume a single nights worth of dragonite ore from SW chest farming.
The other resources I don’t have issues with, but I have dragonite coming out of my ears and have even manually deleted a multitude of stacks.
My princess is starving. I have the opposite issue. Doing HoT stuff a lot I get more BS dust and other materials. Dragonite helps keep a fraction of my bloodstone dust at bay with an eater but I have to toss about stacks a day.
If they would just put a merchant sale price on all ascended crafting materials it would allow us to at least sell it to merchants. As it is all it does is plug up our inventory until we delete it. It’s a waste for us to collect stuff as loot and not be able to do anything with it but delete it.
This error is why I typically use the engineer’s jumpshot and rocket boots more than any teleport. You never get that error with them. Although they don’t give enough vertical leap.
I’ve seen the idea tossed around these forums before but though it would be worthwhile to bring it up again.
Why couldn’t we have shield skins work for the backpiece skin slot as well? Some (if not all ) shields would look fantastic on the back of characters.
What do you guys think? I’m hoping if this gets enough traction it might be implemented as a feature.
I suggested that awhile back. I really wish they would do this. I’m not a fan of shields as weapons but they look awesome stowed on the character’s back.
I use Princess, Star of Gratitude, and Sentient Anomaly. It’s not instant, but I find it effective. In fact, I’m now happy to get Dragonite Ore!
So am I although I still have to delete Bloodstone Dust, Empyreal Fragments and Airship Oil. The eaters don’t consume enough of the first two. I’ll probably have to start deleting Auric Dust too as I’m building up quite a bit of it.
What I would like to see is for a merchant sell amount put on all soul/account bound items so they can be sold to merchants to allow players reap at least some reward for their gathering efforts on items they would otherwise delete.
I still think my suggestion for a Pact Airship memorial in LA is a good idea. It would take 250 airship oil a day in return for something like 50 thermocatalytic reagents to encourage crafting. People would be scrambling to hit Verdant Brink for airship oil when their stockpiles ran out.
I just logged in and got another email about Wintersday Has Returned and Please Help Us (from the orphan). Was there a glitch that caused them to be sent again?
No, resistance and lift are not the same.
You do realize don’t you that the larger flighted birds run with their wings open in order to generate enough lift to fly? Small birds running with their wings open would keep on leaving the ground with each breeze, so they close their wings to run.
Birds control the angle of attack of the wing against the wind by twisting the wing. By putting the leading edge towards the wind and allowing it most of the air to flow over the edge and under the wing they get lift. Changing it to have most of the air flow over the edge and over the wing the wind holds them to the ground. When they open the bottom side of the wing to the wind it slows them down.
Yes, true. But the argument is not how birds fine tune airflow but whether or not having wings out will generate lift if you run forward or if they will slow you down more than having them closed. Since wings are extremely light, thin and aerodynamicaly shaped then running with wings out will generate lift, not resistance.
Just think of someone running with a hang glider. he runs, and he lifts off the ground. If there is a breeze then he will fly.
Again that’s angle of attack. A hang glider wing is edge onto the wind with the wing curved down just a bit in the back to get lift. A wing flat onto the wind generates no lift, just drag. All the backpack wings I see are flat side facing forward which generates no lift, just drag.
For me it mainly occurs when I sell stuff to fast.
Interesting. I almost never sell stacks at the same price and I rarely sell to buy orders, so I find it impossible to “sell too fast” — that would explain why some people see this error a lot and others never do.
I think it’s likely that it’s any number of reasons, not just a single one. Still, it seems as if it would be relatively easy to test the “too fast” hypothesis and (probably) fix that source of the error.
Usually when I sell to the TP I look at the buy vs sale. If there is little difference on some items that may not sell quickly then I sell to the buy orders. Better to make the funds now than have something not sale for months. I find I make more money quickly that way. I also look at the buy orders as demand. No buy orders tell me that there is no demand for the item so I salvage it.
One thing that bugs me is why do some people not do an orderly progression of underselling by dropping the price one copper at a time. I see people drop random amounts below the lowest sale item sometimes by several silver. They are basically undercutting themselves and artificially deflating the value of the item.
I would bet that someone could write an academic paper on game economies.

How much do you want capes in the game?
Will you spend 1000 gems for a Cape skin (backpiece)? While I would like to see capes also but I’d suggest giving up on it because there are too many cape haters. They’d rather wear those wings that block everyone’s visibility plus clip everything and everyone around them because it makes them look like a peakitten strutting around in mating season. I dislike that they pair back pack wing skins with glider skins. I refuse to buy any that are paired like that.
To me any wings that aren’t in use gliding should be tucked back cape style. Expanded wings should come with a negative cost on movement while running because of increased wind resistance.
Wings and feathers are specifically built to be aerodynamic so I doubt there’s much wind resistance, either running or flying.
Wings server a double function. Yes they can be aerodynamic when air is flowing over the leading edge but they can also serve as a aero brake when air is hitting the underside flat on. They act more like a parachute then because of the increased drag. All the wings I see people wear in the game while on the ground are opened up with the underside facing forward which would slow them down.
I’ve complained about this one months ago. This isn’t a consistent problem. I think that somehow instead of getting the error that the player is selling stuff to fast we are getting the account verification error instead. The problem cropped up when they supposedly fixed a bunch of stuff on the trading post then the game got shutdown for many hours because of a big problem. That error started cropping up about the same time. For me it mainly occurs when I sell stuff to fast.
