Well, my cynicism is telling me this evolved MMO, isn’t, when common advice is to LFG and do the FOTM dungeon of the month. What, pray tell is new, different or innovative about that?

The OP addressed a certain component. My complaint is.. all of them. I don’t want insta reward, don’t want a bonanza, what I would like is to not gain 5 levels attempting to get fines to make one set of level 35 rare armor. I would like to kill a Champion and see a drop.. any drop. I would like to do an event like retaking Ascalon settlement and not end up with 4 bags and a level 1 sceptre after a jillion Harathi, 5 or so vets, and two champions.

World drop rate is so bad that it isn’t an alternative, at all, to dungeon farms or market playing. The cash gain is not just slower, it is practically nonexistent to anyone that isn’t a 24/7 bot.

In a game that promised to break the mold the realization that “make a group, run x dungeon, profit” is a deep disappointment. That isn’t new, it is MMO status quo, compounded by world drops and events paying off even worse than comparable, “older” games.

I believe in difficulty, risk v reward, harder content paying more. Making your way doing world content should pay less, take longer, but still be viable. I don’t see that here. I don’t see any reward for taking on difficult open world champions/events either.

Sadly, again, I see the open world as “something you do to get to level cap and run dungeons” and again, I repeat, what is new about that. This leads to dead open worlds, one hub with population, and logging in to LFG. What is new about that, as well.

OP has a valid point. Packets in pre NGE SWG mass pvp were insane, given that no two people had the same customization and the wild array of stats possible by weapons stat customizations. I can recall dying and getting 4 minutes of combat spam lying in the cloner. I could kill people after I was dead with que’d packets depending on their connection.

50 people in pvp would take a server down. Yeah, time has progressed, but customization packets are a real issue.

The core issue isn’t individual comps or cards, but the pipeline. In the US at least, the internet infrastructure has not kept pace with bandwidth demand.

Well, there are people are people who just want them due to WoW having them, and NO other reason….but I would also love to collect strange things….Like a mounting boxing golem?

Also, I think they said they will NOT release flying mounts.

And games prior to Wow had mounts. Many games have mounts. Mounts are mounts, not WoW things.

Wow has a UI. Are UI’s Wow things? Honestly, learn your MMOs before pulling out the “omg WoW” card.

And this thread will be closed for no reason given, just as the last was, as Mounts are a forbidden topic apparently.

I can’t see the fun in killing 7200 earth elementals either. Trading Post actually requires a lot of game market insight to pull off, average player whines about it because they can’t do it, don’t want to spend time learning about it, and is bitter that other people are doing it.

Think about it, if they raise the drop rate of Lodestones on those Earth Elementals, a lot of people will be going to your little farm, you will get less kills per hour, and on top of that the price of Lodestones will drop.

People have a choice in this game, they can be smart and make a lot of money, or they can refuse to use their heads and go monotonously farm weak monsters. I’m sorry if this game is too cerebral compared to other farmer friendly games you’ve played.

Pat yourself on the back harder? A buy/sell threshold bot can play markets as well as you can, and I don’t doubt that a lot of them are ingame, given the overall bot problems.

I don’t log into this game to play a market sim. I really don’t like the implication that players who wish to earn rewards by um.. adventuring in an adventure game are somehow “stupid”. I don’t buy the argument that a player staring at a market UI is somehow superior to a player actually playing the content.

Your market playing does not address or dismiss the lack of drops in the world. If anything, lack of drops benefits market manipulation.

“I guarantee you 90% of the people arguing against MF don’t”

Made up statistics are never a valid argument.

If there were a stat that did nothing but give a % of spawning a Rainbow Clown Wig, you probably wouldn’t want to run with people who stacked it over a passive combat influencing stat.. but it seems to be ok to run with MF, that influences combat no more than said Clown wig would. I don’t get it.

I think a kick for MF is fine. When is the question.. should be done prior to running the instance, not at the final boss.

Personally I see MF gear in the same light as I would seeing a player choose to use white gear. I am sure there are players capable of doing content in white gear, but I don’t want to run with somebody who chooses to nerf their effectiveness or potential, for any reason.

Teofa Tsavo.9863

I’ve played mmo’s for 10 years. When I started crafting I discovered magic find, and I truly was baffled.

Give up stats for some dubious loot chance %? Uh, no. The concept was just too counter to my ideas of character development.

The concept of rewarding for gimping also eludes me. By that logic I should get better drops for just taking my pants off.

Magic Find gear is what I make to level and then salvage.

Im a dinosaur, but players should be rewarded for playing to maximum potential, and rewarded equally for doing the content, not some cheesy sideline stat.

All arguments aside, it come down to one thing. You sacrifice a stat that influences combat for one that influences nothing but minor loot roll %. To me, bringing that to a group is simply contributing less, no matter how you spin it.

This is, to me, a buff stat that should be confined to foods and banners only.

Right now we have group events throughout the mid tier zones that just go undone because of lack of players, or apathy given the minute chance of any drops. Ramping up difficulty for those events would only compound the issue, and I question whether you will attract players back if those champions/events continue to give the rewards they do now.

And then Anet will bake cupcakes and the devs will personally go to every players house and tearfully apologize for all their so-called mistakes and beg them to keep playing (while handing out the cupcakes of course).

The cupcakes are important here.

This game does not require the use of mounts, there hundreds of posts on this subject and this thread needs to be closed or merged

The game does not require minipets. The game does not require Town Clothing. The game does not require Tonics, bells, or sparkly particle effects like splotchy footprints or glow in the dark weaponry.

Games rarely “require” the use of the myriad of little fluff items that make them.. gasp.. fun.

In AoC I had a mammoth. It was slow, it was worthless, it was a pretty much “come kill me I’m stupid” mount on an FFA server. That didn’t stop me from calling my kids down cause “OMG I’m riding a Mammoth around”. Ya know.. fun.

As an aside, one Hoelbrek load screen shows Norn riding what look to be Bison, but probably Dolyak. And yeah, I want one.

Legendary transmutating issues

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863

Teofa Tsavo.9863

Well, I hesitate here to say this, but, in “other” games trade in NPCs are fairly common for items of that level, that for some reason or another need restored or a stat change becomes necessary.

From my perspective the problem lies with the “one shoe fits all” mentality that pervades the design philosophy. There should have been a drop down menu for prefix on the Legendary creation menu. And still, there should be a function to change prefix to allow for gameplay change, or Developer changes to traits, skills, and whatever. For an item of this level of difficulty to acquire, transmuting stones should never have been part of the equation.

The issue is with design, not stones. Players should never have been forced to use them, knowing the mechanics of the stones and the potential for a downgrade.

However I will be blasted for mentioning anything seen in any other game.

Legendary transmutating issues

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863

Teofa Tsavo.9863

I fail to see this as anything but a mistake on the player’s part. Transmuting decides what class a weapon will be by what stats are applied in the transmute interface. If you choose to put Exotic weapon stats on a Legendary, the game will create an exotic weapon. That is how it works. Has always worked. Skin does not determine class of the weapon.

Non Issue.

Sigh… The players aren’t making any mistake. Legendaries are only available on the soldier prefix. What if they want a berserker or cleric legendary? Thats why they transmute the Legendary. The problem is said items are now inferior to Ascended items

Actually, they are at fault, since the current transmuting stones are working as intended, as they always have. So, knowing the mechanic of transmuting stones, I would say expecting a Legendary when putting exotic stats on one is a mistake.

Lobby for a new transmuting stone for Legendary, instead of claiming that stones are somehow at fault or changing a mechanic that works for every other transmutation in game.

Or simply add an NPC that will allow you to change Prefix on the Legendary without a stone at all. For the effort A legendary takes, this isn’t too much to ask.

The easiest explanation why a Ranger wouldn’t use guns is because Rangers are supposed to be self-sufficient, capable of living out in the wild for extended periods of time without assistance.
If you run out of arrows you could make some more yourself, but you’re not going to be able to make more gunpowder for a gun.

Like the fur trappers did, in 1700s North America.. oh wait.. they had Flintlocks. And the bow using Native Americans gladly traded for same as soon as they could.

Mounts are fun. Mounts add to immersion. Mounts add a small degree of character personalization.

They do not have to go 200% speed or be pastel pink panda-raptors. They don’t need to be terribly more uber than existing passive run buffs ingame. They don’t need stats or bonus.

They can be fluff, and since they are not needed, will be fluff.

They don’t need to be callable in cities,if that offends you, though for me, I’d rather see a horse than necro pets.

Yes, there are waypoints. That means no one will ever be forced to have a mount to get around. So, all I see is “I don’t want a mount, and I don’t want you to have one”

FYI to some, Mounts aren’t a “wow” thing. Mounts were in MMO’s prior to WoW. Please refrain from assuming wow is the only mmo that existed pre GW2. WoW has mounts because they were popular in the games that blizzard blatantly ripped off.

From Anet’s perspective, mounts are a huge cash cow for those games that offer them as store purchases. Possibly more than any other non consumable category.

Some places it is pretty impossible to even set up for a nice screenshot between respawns.

Some reknown heart NPCs actually need rezzing. And you will find yourself under attack while conversing with them, or taking time to see what they have for sale.

I think a prime example is Dredge Caves like in Frostgorge, some of them are amazing, so much stuff, structures, paths, begging to be looked at.. but if you pause to actually look, you hear “diigggy!!” and some annoying little creep insta knocks you off the ramp for a falling death.

Ok, seriously, I have yet to find a level appropriate mob, 1v1, that is a problem, including Veterans. The dodge, heal, and other mechanics are fine. Same with normal mobs in groups, less with some classes, more with my guard, but fine.

The issue is when your dodge rolls you into the respawn that wasn’t there seconds ago. Or when your skills are all on cooldown and the crap you cleared on the way to the Skillpoint vet joins in again on respawn. Respawn timers and adds become a problem when the sole mechanic to make a boss “hard” is more hp.

It’s when the ’solo" storyline balanced for you and 5 AI helpers goes south because they will NOT dodge out of anything, leaving you solo to face an encounter not designed for it. ( If the OP had just come out of the Vigil mission with the Skritt and waves of destroyer crabs, I can totally see him claiming the mission was designed to kill him, as his AI help dies in the first wave, leaving him to solo all of the subsequent waves.)

It’s when mobs are in tight, enclosed confines and leash and reset if pulled one step out of them.

There are many areas, storyline missions, and skill points that need spawn timers and proximity mobs tweaked. AI help in “solo” storylines need tweaks. There are vet mobs, underwater especially, that need their reset and invul behavior looked at.

There is a problem when common advice to “solo” solo missions is to overlevel them or just zerg.

An experienced player will find workarounds, modify playstyle, adapt to the issues. That does not mean they are not “issues”.

And no matter how hard, how easy, how complex or how simple, in every game, every mmo, there are those whose response to anything or everything is “learn to play”.

Furthermore, if the Noob does indeed “learn to play” and does things he couldnt before, if he mentions that he will be given the “lol I facerolled that with no armor and a rock, noob, LEARN TO PLAY”

Leetism is never pretty.

And Mirta, do you need a “tutorial” in comprehension? My post was aimed at the unhelpful and derogatory “learn to play” comments that are and have been standard tripe on MMO boards since the inception of them.

I have stopped doing storylines, period. I would like to perma delete the silly prompt cluttering my screen.

See, I did not read the GW books. So.. from what I have seen of the storylines I did, Destiny’s edge are a bunch of /facepalms who make Alesia look like Voltron.

Granted, I only worked with Eir and Nimrod, er, Thackery. Thack’s special combat move was a faceplant in the dirt, and Eir was great at posing heroically with bow while her apparently toothless wolf gummed on one bad guy’s leg. So, for me, without the novel background, they are just really really bad AI help, nothing more.

Trahearne. I really don’t know how you could create possibly the most unlikeable, cardboard character in any MMO, and then give him all the credit.

It is a terrible storyline series, it is a personal to me as a walmart parking lot and less interesting.

Contrast the first mission in Proph (post searing) to the first mission here. In Proph, they send out a lowly little noob scout, who sees Charr, runs and screams like a little girl, with success determine by how fast you ran AWAY.

Here? Me (and 10 other noobs) gank one guaranteed success worm. (Norn) Now, for that I am THE SLAYER, known far and wide throughout the lands, feared, honored, and on the fast track to even more fame and product endorsements.

In GW1, your role grew as your character grew, less of the Mighty Hero and more of the dummy who happened to be in the right place at the right time. Far more engaging, continuous, and fun.

It seems that all I do on these forums is complain about GW2. Well, why am I here? For me, Jora was such a compelling character, the Norn were so fascinating, and Jora’s part in my story was fun and rewarding. I am here because of the success of THAT story, I can be a Norn, a “jora” somewhat, and this is the only place I can. I would call that a story success. It made me buy this game, and keeps me here.

I doubt Trahearne will do that for anyone.

It’s funny when girls say that it’s sexist, even though a female designed the outfits.

News Flash: Sexy isn’t my clothing. My clothing doesnt give consent, or ask you to be my lover. Being sexy is a state of mind and a way of communicating. Expressing the desire to not be forced to run around half naked has very little to do with sexiness.

Also, the gender of the armor designer doesn’t make the reality of being forced to be half-clothed “okay”.

I have always enjoyed GW1 and now 2 because Anet has not foisted the conventions of society upon their games. Women/Men have no “roles”, you see as many Female soldiers as you do male herbalists and cooks.

Alternate reality games need not follow the conventions/restrictions of real societies. That is the joy of them.

Shame of showing the body has to be taught. It is not inherent. Until judo/christianity forced the concept of original sin upon most of the world, there was not this idiot idea that bare breasts meant “vessel of sin” Many cultures had no issues of sexuality regarding bare skin until it was forced upon them by various religions. Cultures had less issues with homosexuality as well.

What offends me, far more deeply than any glimpse of skin, is the attitude that people feel free to label and judge based upon looks in a Video game. I’m 56, I don’t wear leather panties and boots to run to the convenience store. Actually, never worn such a thing in my life. Yet.. my char does in game, so, people feel free to either accuse me of being some vile little man abusing myself, or, if they admit I might be female, is obviously trolling for a little ERP action.

Has anyone else noticed that passiflora nodes give ruined plant fiber with ori sickles sometimes? Is this supposed to happen? It seems wrong.

Happened to me yesterday, I assumed it was because of the annoying lil karka monster beating on me.

Ori sickle as well.

Respawn is an issue with high health veterans and nearby mobs. In the time taken to knock a veteran down, at level, solo, you will be fighting his companions at least one more time, possibly two. This is an issue at still points, particularly if you have to commune. Examples off the top of my head would be the skill point where you have to clear a Veteran Troll and Veteran Ooze close together in Gendarran, the Jotun Spirit skill point in Dredgehaunt, the Centaur necromancers cave in Kessex, etc.

The Jotun one is particularly annoying. He is surrounded, closely, by 6 random Jotun who don’t mind booting you into the one that didn’t aggro, the boss is tough (at level) and you will be fighting respawn adds, more if you take the time to pull and finish off the two jotun you can on the way in. There is just no breathing space. And that would be my summation of a lot of the game.. “no breathing space”

And to the guys that see no problems.. or want faster spawns… I knew you in GW1 I think. Didn’t you finish Proph solo, in presearing armor, with just Frenzy and Mending?

well to be “that guy”, but why does every option have to be braindead friendly? Seriously its almost like mmo’s these if they were in charge of creating a light switch would have to think of a simplar version of on/off.

They don’t want CS staff tied up with “Help, I accidently deleted” requests I think.

I personally prefer a classy woman to a strip club dancer, just my personal taste though.

Really? So mere dress/appearance connotes classification/morality for you?

Does Tyria even have strip clubs, or even your personal hangups in general? Does Kryta have the same moralistic standards of rural alabama?

It is a fantasy construct world..let it have it’s own standards, leave the real world out of it.

If it passes the ESRB, deal with it.

Have an option in the hero panel to disable it. Have it enabled by default. Thus, the only people who would ever have to enable it again already know where it is because to be in that position they had to disable it to begin with.

This. We have a personal storylines panel in Hero, add a “hide story prompts” and “resume story prompts” checkbox if possible.

And thank you, Dev, for responding.

It’s no big thing, just very annoying to always see this on my UI all the time.

I have no intention of following Trahearn’s Personal Story, now, or ever. I would like the option of opting out of it, permanently, or at least hiding it and forgetting about it.

Same with the Worldwide event prompts. Fine, I’ve seen it, have no interest in it, don’t need to see the same message throughout the whole of Wintersday.

I deleted my Thief because I could not bear to have another medium armor wearing character.

Jackets, Vests, Tunics, Skirts please. I’m sick of looking like Carmen SanDiego.

GW1 had far more options.

And, can we, ONE TIME, debate armor with out the prudery and “in real life” commentary? It’s a game, people, and more choices, more options are good things.

Wow. How hard is it to detach yourself from the pixellated character onscreen people.

It’s not me, its not my breast or skin showing. That barbie girl I play has no bearing on RL nor is she subjected to the rules of RL.

Skimpy is fun. It has no reflection on me in RL. It’s a gaming appearance choice, nothing more.

With Transmutation stones NO ONE is forced into an appearance because of stats. Let people have choices, and keep choices. I would have liked to earn that armor, now that option is gone.

This topic comes up on the boards of every Fantasy MMO I have played. Summation.

I would like the option of skimpier armor.

I don’t want the option of skimpier armor, and I don’t want you to have it either (insert rant about unrelated RL stereotypes and morality issues).

I don’t like humongous idiotic looking Greatswords..solution, I don’t use them. But I’m not lobbying to have them taken from those that DO like them.

Losing track of cursor + terrible tab targeting

When they decided to “re-invent” the mmo it seems ANET failed to consider functional options at all.

Shipping this game in 2012 with minimal UI config options, minimal graphic and particle controls, and a host of other function options missing makes zero sense to me.

No ability to turn off tooltips. No particle slider, no saved settings for UI, no custom UI, no target cursor options, etc etc.

In Everquest 2 I have 5 graphics saved settings, from “Screenshot pretty” to “bare bones Raid” that I can load up depending on the situation I will be in. That is one example. In EQ2 I control the “culling” as in how many chars will be displayed in what texture, at what distance, and what LOD. This is from an 8 year old game, and just the tip of the iceberg as to what you can do in Advanced settings.

On the functionality side, this game is no revolution at all, more like a “one size fits all” fisher price approach. The lack of UI and Graphic customization options was for me, the biggest shock of this game.

So, what you’re saying is “I play for Da Lootz”

In that case, I don’t really have comforting words. Da Lootz is bad. You could only try to switch to a “Dont need Da Lootz to have fun” point of view, but that is not for everybody.

There is no need to belittle him…

It wasnt intended that way, my apologies if it did.
Everybody has their own thing that keeps them playing. For some it is Lootz, for others it’s Da People, for me it’s Getting Lost Simply Wandering.
My point was: what is driving the OP to play, is not something that will keep him playing GW2, so he has to either change his “wants”, or find something else. Or maybe wait for an update where they’ll fix the loot.

*Edit: I agree that the waypoint costs should be tweaked somehow. It discourages spontaneous teamplay. Maybe they could add something that “waypointing to a teammember is free” or something.

And you misread me totally. I’m a tourist in every game I play. Im not a dungeon crawler, not a boss farmer, not a farmer in general. In Everquest 2 or Vanguard, Ill ride a mount rather than using transport systems, just to see the maps.

My motivation to play this? Be a Jora, be a Norn. That.. over all. But all that said, the absence of ANY loot from most mobs negatively impacts my ability to play the game my way. That is it.

And.. its She.

And.. its She.And as an aside.. they could make transport to zone cost, but transport within the zone much much cheaper.. or free, like cities.
