If you dislike platforming I’m afraid you are out of luck. They absolutely don’t care.
And so, they won’t see a thin dime from me.

Why does Lege armor have to be tied to Raids?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863
Legendary armor is meant to reward players for doing the most challenging content, which is raid. Your question is like asking why is legendary backpiece tied to fractal and pvp. Ofc they want to reward the people who do those content, and to prompt players to step out of their comfort zone. In the end legendary armor is just a fashion icon like everything else endgame in gw2, so being exclusive is actually a good thing.
Said every Raider since EQ1 launch.
Just a handful of the threads on the same topic:
- https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/New-Races-1/5282548

The discussion is always the same:
- We should have new races.
- Everyone agrees (except about which race first).
- People point out the relative cost to produce one new race versus several new profs or specializations or living story.
tl;dr everyone wants new races, but they aren’t a good long-term investment for the game
“Everyone” is a bit of a stretch. People don’t support the alternate races already in game and humans remain the overwhelming choice, despite the efforts to make them less attractive. So… why bother with another?
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Shrug. Yes, there were a tiny bunch of non aggro Tengu in Factions. I wouldn’t call them friendly.
Meanwhile the vast majority of Canthan Tengu, and all of the Tyrian tribes would have just as soon gutted you on sight. In fact they killed everything that entered their territory that wasn’t Tengu.
Plus we have the “modern” enlightened GW2 Tengu, who calmly stood at their precious gate in LA shooting down any refugee that ventured too close.
Bad enough the Charr got snowflaked into being our “pals”. They don’t need to whitewash another historical enemy that remains both xenophobic and ultra Territorial that did nothing in the struggle to destroy Zhaitan and Shrub Dragon but observe.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Please not another psychotic race of GW1 murdering xenophobes.
zone map failed as well.
This is a new one for me.
It’s how you died. It’s a glitch. Just respawn, usually fixes it.
I didn’t die either time. I have to switch chars to fix it.
I’m pretty good at running and screaming. Not a fun state to be in while in combat. I was very much still alive when this happened.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
2nd time this has happened in WvW. I get put in this permanent hunch and am unable to use any weapon skills. Only fix is to log out on the Char.
emote won’t work, dodge won’t work, wp won’t work, weap swap, etc.
I can move, and can use siege lol while in this state.
Both times there were several enemy, don’t know what class was involved for sure.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Well, forcing the 32 helped, but I still have a char in Hoelbrek, and no matter how I try to log onto that character, I get a hard disconnect that closes the game.
As title. It isn’t working, I cannot stay connected, I cannot switch chars or open the trade post without DC. I get DC’d from WvW constantly.
None of this was happening prior to todays patch. I am used to having a choice between 32 or 64 on most of my downloaded programs. 32 is most stable, 64 works on a very few.
I particularly do not like the idea of any program deciding on it’s own to change my settings.
Taking a clue from Microsoft re unwanted “upgrades” isn’t a great Idea. Consumers should have a choice. The 32 bit was working fine for me.
It’s a false flag so he wasn’t exploiting or doing anything wrong. The person who reported him was abusing the system.
Are you actually serious?
HOM weapons? Bleh.
However, that Raccoon… still my fav Mini. Such an adorable swimmer.
I guarantee that when Deserted Desert Borderlands cycle back in I will be back in GW1.
I was the entire time it was up last time.
GW is like reading Starship Troopers. GW2 is like watching the Movie. Same title..not the same at all.

I…don’t understand why people care about this. Please, help me understand. You barely get anything worthwhile even when actively farming the core maps, can’t imagine it’s significantly better if you AFK farm for an entire day. There’s got to be better uses for your electricity and PC processing power than that.
This has got to be a free player issue. I feel like everyone else who owns the game is just…above all this.
A “free” player with Pact Mastery? Hilarious. Always blame the FTP, right?
No Gliding. Bad enough it’s in Core.
First problem I see is that you think server pride is a real thing. Anet reserves the right to shut down any server they want at any time – you better get used to having more of a guild pride or something like that because the server system as we knew has changed and will continue to change. I’ve transferred servers more times that I can even remember at this point, its been at least 16 times between my 2 accounts, I have no “server pride” because it is hard to be “proud” of a server who lost all of its people and dropped to being one of the lowest ranked servers lol.
Like someone else above said, it sounds like you just enjoyed the PvDoor and now you can’t do that – sorry for your loss.
So you bandwagoned to Blackgate, the largest blob server in game.
I would guess Pride is not an issue to you, and why it is you don’t understand it at all.
You really should invest in some “Good Idea Fairy” repellent.
Re: Server pride. I never, ever, wanted to PvP in an MMO again as my hands have deteriorated so much from RA. But, I ended up doing WvW, for server pride. I figured out things I could do, to help my Server.
If you stomp out the last vestiges of Server Pride and identity, I simply will not be pressing B anymore. I’ve never been to EoTM for that very reason.
Eh. Outlast, Endure. I don’t think GW2 would ever survive with the neglect and minimal life support GW has had for so many years. GW was abandoned and still managed to help pay for this game.
oooo an anti Kiting thread. I have missed these.
Auto Decline group requests is an old and common toggle in many MMOs.
Here, we get a new set of wings instead.
Servers only exist in WvW,
Yes.
and they are already in the process of merging those.
No, they aren’t in the process of merging them. They are testing the idea of linking two (perhaps 3) servers together for individual match ups, but so far, such linkages are temporary only and, as yet, there’s no word on how often those linkages will change.
We shall see, won’t we. I’ll stick with my viewpoint. It is just a matter of time.
It’s not ok for Rangers to AFK farm either.
Why people would think AFK farming is suddenly ok is beyond me. It never has been.
You can adventure in PVE together regardless of server.
Servers only exist in WvW, and they are already in the process of merging those.
All I require of a game is entertainment, not some bizarre socialization experiment.
Some content that requires grouping, sure.
Common Hero Points… please. Open world besides boss events should be soloable, period.
The grandfather of all western “Group up or Die” mmo’s, the original Everquest, now has Mercenaries. So does Everquest 2. The very fabric of the MMO Universe did not unravel.
MMO meaning forced group play is a ship that has largely sunk. No point clinging to it. All it is today is an option, as it should be for most content.
Casual players who are sick and tired of the drama and hassle of forced Pugs have incomes and free time. It would be very stupid for any company today to re-roll the 2000 model of MMO grouping designs.
GW1 is ample proof that pug grouping is not really the preferred choice when given an option not to. Grouping died there because of Player Choice.
Seems to be a lesson Management forgot.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
You have it backward. GW1 was designed to be completely unsoloable. Henchmen were put there to fill gaps in a roster. They were never intended (until population dropped with GW2 and they added a cash shop option to field more than 3 heroes) to allow for solo play. They were there to allow you to fill a few spots in a group if you were only a couple players short.
Heroes were added later, largely as a narrative device. That’s why the player was limited to 3. They were never intended to enable solo play. They were intended to make a game designed completely around grouping easier to fill groups for in less than ideal conditions.
Wrong.
I did all of Proph with hench. Solo. Vanquished most of the world with Hero/hench, solo.
You were never forced to group with others if you did not choose to, beyond the noob rez sig quest or hiring a lever puller in Pre.
Also, Mercenary Heroes were added in 2011.
Off topic, how do you get away with using the name of an Historical Religious RL person/persons?
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
I agree, being able to play in a group or solo was what made Guild Wars 1 such a great game, and Guild Wars 2 has really lost that. The vast majority of max level content does require a group and it’s alienating to people with unpredictable schedules. They really should implement scaling or bring back AI parties to the game.
I think GW1’s soloability is somewhat overstated. You did have henchmen, but some missions were particularly difficult with henchmen. Even with heroes, I stalled out three missions from the end of Eye of the North because they couldn’t help me drop powder kegs on a boss. (I’m sure better players can solo this, but it’s not soloable for everyone like most of GW2’s solo parts.)
Ah, but Maw is a perfect example of GW1 build flexibility and planning ahead. Hard if you brute forced it with kegs, easy if you brought a couple of Lifesteal Heroes and a good prot monk. Flag the lifestealers out, support them with monks/rit, profit.
Flexibility this game has very little of. Hard when your bag of tricks is a very very small one.
The ability to group with other players never left GW1. It became the least chosen method. Heroes did what they were told, did not question your gear or build, did not complain about speed, did not rage quit, did not blame you. They are reliable. They equip how you want, with the skills you want, and do their jobs without Drama.
It is pretty hard to accept a forced pug game after that.

Maybe the still shot isn’t doing the Storm Bow justice — but the stills of Azureflame look nicer imo while still offering the same aesthetic.
Spewing plumes of annoying particle effects is not the same aesthetic.
I want my black dyed Oppressor’s flatbow.
Some people’s hobby is pronouncing GW1 dead, and will jump on any thread re GW1 to enthusiastically beat it just in case.
Some are Clairvoyant and also know exactly what management is actually thinking at any given moment.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Two things are puzzling me about this now.
1. People are risking their accounts with a type of farming they know to be controversial, but go ahead and do it anyway (and some are then confused as to why they receive a ban afterwards).
2. Why it’s still being argued by some as an ok way to farm despite people actually being banned for it.
It’s a variation of the time honored lame argument of “if they didn’t want me to exploit this glitch they would fix the glitch. So, it’s allowed.”
The mentality doesn’t change.
I like unique names just so I know which IIIRytlockXOX I am talking to.
I care simply because Anet has a pretty good history of addressing cheaters by doing an overall nerf of a mechanic that negatively impacts innocent players in the process.
Case in point, Guild Bank Callable Yaks. Early in the game these were removed from a lot of innocent lower level guilds and made much harder to earn.. because of a suspicion Gold Sellers were using them.
Things like this happened often in GW, where mobs were actually removed from some areas and mechanics changed to combat bot farmers, changes that hurt ATK players.
They removed that type of exp from WvW. The new tracks give a lot of tomes out, and that is it.
There doesnt need to be any justification for the AFK farmers.
All thats required is to determine whether the AFK farmers are or are not playing the game as intended, and until someone can provide some document that defines what playing the game as intended means, this entire thread is simply pure speculation.
You all will deny, as you have, any documentation linked. No point in bothering.
Regina’s statement is valid, 3yrs old or not. Nothing has changed re AFK farming. It has always been not tolerated.
Hopefully they learned not to tailor an expansion to a single platforming demographic.
For me HoT was all stick and no carrot.
A true archer. The “ranger” class doesn’t feel like a true archer profession but instead feels like a “park ranger” class constantly having to run pet mechanics. I would like a true archer with no pet, utilizing different shots for situational control. CC through freezing shots and push shots, condition dmg through poison and fire arrows, evade with leap type acrobatics and maybe short stealth for escapes, but I would prefer no stealth in exchange for more dmg. A true archer would be a wet dream.
I don’t know you but I love you.
What he said.
Yes. A ranger, not a WoW hunter with a limited pet.
We could drop the pet in GW1 and most did.
I have unfortunately turned all sound off. Too many squeaky toys, jack in the boxes, and the general cacophony of effect sounds on everything. And the Backpack O Tron. Shudder.
I just plug in 7 hours of GW1 Anthology.
No. They would be linked to HoT ownership.
Gliding should not be in Core as it is.
So, you are AFK farming, which any reasonable person would assume is suspect, you chose to ignore a lot of input which says it isn’t allowable, and you made a mistake.
And now you feel an Anet employee should be fired over the mistake you made?
I think you need to take a huge step back.
slowly bangs head on desk.
what does =/= mean on your world?
Dervish.
Paragons used spears, but we won’t ever see one
Here for your enjoyment, I found a bot this morning that wasn’t only AFK farming, but as evident was using 3rd party programme to constantly spam skill 1 of it’s longbow as well.
So I popped over with my mesmer (I’m the human, the Sylvari is a guild friend of mine who isn’t a bot!) with the Bouquet of Flowers toy, and tossed a bunch to it. Although it didn’t stop the bot (the Asura) from gaining loot from the constant spawning of a nearby drake, it was fun to watch for a short while!
Of course, I also used the in-game report system first!
Edit: The originally idea behind the flowers was to try and force the bot into costume brawl, so I could then use Mad King Scepter to fear it out of the way. Unfortunately didn’t work since the flowers need to have a charge up to activate costume brawl, but was still fun to watch the little blighter bash the floor with the flowers a few times!
This is funny. I miss the days of the old bots who had to spam f, I could do such interesting things with them using Mes Portals.
I hope not. A bowler is from a far different era of style than the Outfit is, and originally a working class style as well. Hopefully the clothing designers retain some shred of continuity in design.
When we talk about features, since Guild Wars 1 didn’t have a trading post, a mail system, a way to truly customize guild halls, a wardrobe system, or even jumping and swimming, I’d say the OP’s viewing Guild Wars 1 through rose-colored glasses.
As far as this being like every other MMO, that’s just not true. I think the confusion here is that the OP thinks Guild Wars 1 was an MMO rather than a lobby game. A lot of the changes in Guild Wars 2 have to do with the transition to an open world, as well as a larger player base with more diverse tastes.
Guild Wars 1 was focused. It was a niche game. In some ways Guild Wars 2 is a niche game too, but it’s a much bigger niche.
They dropped the Ball, Vayne.
They snatched defeat from the Jaws of Success and became EveryMMO.
People quit playing games that had all those things you listed to Play GW. It was a gem of innovation for the times.
And still.. with all you listed, GW2 has yet to catch up with a game as old as EQ2 that has truly customizable Guild Halls.. several tiers worth, far more functional Guild Banks and management, Appearance Slots you can slot ANY armor or weapon into, and has had swimming, jumping, and underwater combat since 2005. This game doesn’t even have a configurable UI or particle effect control client side.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that EQ2 has flowing capes for.. 21 races.
GW2 has yet to step up to the plate on what they COULD have been.
On the other hand, EQ2 has a leveling system that divides players based on time played, maps that quickly get rendered obsolete as you outlevel them, an economy that locks new players out with runaway inflation, and a completely dead world. And don’t even get me started on the combat system. Nor could you play as a massive dragon-cat (Though you can play as a cute cat-person)
EQ2 is the game that sent me back to GW2.

None of those things were truly needed either, especially the trading post. That one thing has dominated what could have been a great free economy..
Guildwars was a Corpg
I agree with the above statement. I think Trade Posts/Auction Houses should be done away with entirely in games of this nature.
I am so glad you’re in “So small it’s completely irrelevant” minority. The trading post is an absolutely amazing addition to the game.
I was only addressing QoL features, not gameplay. One correction, you can Chrono down to whatever level you wish to be. No map is Obsolete.

I’m having trouble reconciling “I LOVE JPs” statements with the idea that Anet feels the need to put them in the rotation to get people to do them.
If they are so loved, why were they unused?
And I discount those who “love” them now because they can run up and hit f on a portal. Disable portals on JP’s and see how long the “love” lasts.
In EQ2 leather is gained from “animal den” harvest nodes.
