Tis a lot of money for flogging a dead horse.
After the Tengu behavior during the Lions Arch attack I hope they never become playable. They have too much to answer for. For the same reason I would not care what some dragon does to them.
The “no grind” philosophy means a new set of gear with higher stats wont be required every time new content comes out. It was broken once when ascended gear and fractals came out, which people hated, but by now they have either gotten used to it or quit. Raids do not break it as ascended gear is not required for them.
It also doesnt mean high end cosmetic items wont be expensive.
Guess this link needs posted again.
http://dulfy.net/2015/09/30/gw2-ascended-gear-will-be-needed-in-raids/
That is a “Lady of the Evening” Broker.
What they said and what they actually do have little in common.
They announced that they will go forward on Fractals and Raids.
I predict that Fractals will receive a balance pass to reflect HoT gear, Items and Profession changes.
I understand that Raids should fully reflect HoT changes, they are HoT content.
Fractals are Core content. If they receive a HoT balance pass, they become less do-able for the Core player, Core players become undesirable for groups, Core players get pushed down the food chain.
I bought GW2 with the understanding I could play it standalone. There is nothing about HoT that leads me to want to purchase it. I’ll be very annoyed If they change Core content to leverage HoT purchases, but I think it is already in the works.
I’m fairly certain this is not directed at F2P, but the Core game itself.
It will remain playable. Just not profitable.
Just another way to push HoT purchasing. Understandable from a business standpoint, sure. Good business.. I don’t think so.
Hmm. Focus on Gear gated instances and raids. How…“innovative”.
The Brave New MMO didn’t live long.
I did notice a new type several times recently, stationary Thief bots spamming autoattack, with the runes that call the parrot pet.
If I’m on my mes I just portal them to a safe place with no mob spawn. Wouldn’t want em to get hurt, ya know
That’s interesting. Don’t they have to accept the portal though?
A bot will be spamming F to loot. An actual ATK player.. no.

This again….. We don not need a one set to rule them all.
this is precisely the purpose of going legendary.
I see you don’t understand the concept of a Legendary. It’s meant to show you have “mastered” all aspects of the game. The where never meant to be better than the gear of the same tie. Just more flashy, and something to prove you’ve done it all.
Or simply mastered the TP. On their own they prove nothing.

Am I the only one who gets this? Or am I way off-base here?
Clever, but I’m hearing much whooshing noise as it flies over heads.
Mini Max(er)….. funny.

Sad that Anet already had a template for an effective Non stealth “thief” class in the GW Assassin. They tossed that, pandering to the wow rogues. “Innovation” rofl.

Those are very different from an EQ2 Heroic Character anyway.
I would never play a Charr. I remember them from GW all too well.
I dislike the magic snowflake wand that made them somehow the Industrial Power. In GW they didn’t even have trebs or any evidence of industry past forging of armor and weapons. Primitive, shamanistic Barbarians.
Every time I hear some filthy beast yell “Remember Ascalon” all I can say is, yes. I do.
And I want to gut them.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
They haven’t touched the quality of the Prophecies and Factions trailers yet.
Cowboy themed Elona. Absolutely the most preposterous suggestion ever made.
At first I assumed this was a joke post, to my horror, it is not.
I’m 59 and started playing mmos when my spouse died. I had no wish to date, still don’t. TV was boring and depressing. Games are a decent and cheap way to socialize and stay exposed to a younger generation (good and bad lol).
Ranger is versatile and very survivable and forgiving in PvE. I would stress that a new and less confidant player steer clear of the more judgemental aspects of the game, Dungeons and WvW/PvP. Even some open area events can be pretty rough. I would advise a new player to largely ignore the content “prompts” the game imposes on your screen until you have become more confident just playing open world pve.
Crafting and harvesting were fun for me in games that emphasized them more. Home decorating is also fun in games that have homes and place-able decor. It is a shame that GW2 tends to ignore a lot of alternate playstyles. Conversely, this game allows you to always overlevel most content, and it is no shame to do so. A downleveled player is always stronger, and a new player can stay in “easier” content for a long time with so many new player zones.
I wouldn’t push Personal Story to an older brand new gamer till they are at least 10 levels over for the 1st run through. The leveled rewards aren’t good enough to worry about.
I was fortunate that my first big MMO was SWG, where I was confident enough to be a non-combat Dancer and crafter. It took me 6 months to actually go out and shoot a Nuna, which owned me. Eventually I got better.
My sons encouraged me. They thought it was cool I was doing “real gamer” stuff, and so did I. Had I been pushed off onto some of the feeble, online “bingo browser” games I would not have stayed with them. I still have no interest in them. Don’t sell us “older” folks out, we can do real games.

I still laugh maniacally whenever I imagine Panic cast on a WvW stack. “Weak Mesmer” haa haaa.
GW is worth playing and owning. It is unique, a kind of game we may never see again. I have to laugh at the “AMG can’t jump” crowd, MMOs with jumping were already common at the height of GWs popularity, didn’t matter then, really doesn’t now.
Story is better, not a literary Jewel, but one sans Ley Lines, Scarlette, the Moronics, and Snowflake charr with helicopters.
Lorewise, the game has impact that GW2 tries and fails at. The shock of post searing Ascalon far exceeds anything done in GW2. I still harbor a deep hatred of Charr.

An ersatz Warden is not a Ranger.
Who rolled a Ranger to be a healer? How is this even remotely a Ranger Archetype?
Stupid. I don’t care how “useful” it may be. I cannot believe people are happy with this pathetic bone tossed to the Ranger class.
The buying restrictions boggled me. Apparently a Veteran player isn’t allowed to make coin off an FTP player. Hardly balanced.
Don’t expect a lot of t6 sales from FTP, as they are gated from Laurels.
Not to mention the idiotic ranger pokemon yell.
The biggest annoyance of all is hearing “Avenge the Foefire”. On who? Really sick of that shout. The only good charr is one on fire and screaming anyway.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
I fail to see how a statement on downed mechanics applies to a pie recipe.
What I do see is a missed opportunity to just remove the idiotic downed mechanic altogether. Shame.
Nancy McIntyre on the NGE. “Too Hard, too much reading” Deja Vu.

I agree with the OP. Each return on my cycle is shorter, and I have zero interest in HoT.
snip
At any rate, all these things were too confusing to new players. No telling how many newbies were hit with a critical amount of confusion when they saw that recipe. It had to go for the good of the game.
You have to be joking.
In every MMO I’ve played, Zerging was a derogatory term. I still can’t shake that feeling, and I avoid the world bosses because of that. Champ farms were even worse.
Every morsel of new content devolves into a timed Zerg stampede.
Loss of our home server communities made this a very lonely game indeed. Most of my friends list were people I would chat with in Fort Aspenwoods LA, and honestly, all of them are gone. I don’t form those friendships now, every map is random and transient. I only go to LA now for the mystic forge, and only when we lose garrison in WvW.

Options I would pay for.

“Hide all Backpacks/wings” toggle.
The core art in this game is very good, when not obscured by cheesy effects.
“Hide all legendary effects” toggle.

I would advise against buying the first guild wars 1 just basing it off GW2, you will be sorely disappointed.
Shrug. I bought this based on GW and I’m still sorely disappointed. Spacebar jumping isn’t a new thing, hate to break that to you. I’ve played a lot of MMOs, and frankly, very little of GW2 is new, or innovating at all.
Still play GW. I can handle this game about one month in 4. Very different games.
I play a lot of games that have been pronounced “dead”. EQ2, AoC, GW, SWToR for example. I still enjoy them.
Not dead, but with apparent decreased numbers, and for EQ2, AoC in particular, massive server consolidations over time.
Numbers are down here. We have had the server merges. I just go by what I see.. which is boss events like Claw of Jormag uncompleted in spite of megamerge, and it is a common thing. A telling thing, since the world boss train is “the” thing to do.
Numbers impact what you can do. Rotating 14 chars through Frostgorge and failing to find a map that is even trying Claw is telling (and not rare). Sure, there were full maps someplace, but the fact is that megamerge isn’t making up for the falling population as it was intended to.
I don’t really care. I’ve been enjoying the low pop maps.
Plaid dyes for the new Lumbersexual outfits
Turning down particles has been asked for since beta and apparently will never happen.
The LOD does nothing, really.
its really disappointing and disheartening. the events are zero fun. i had a friend join ftp and was going to run around with her for these events…too embarrassed to even try now.
they just dropped this junk on top of the existing maps. the other events are still running while the mordrem are invading?… didn’t anybody plan or play this stuff before pushing it out?
This is hardly a new thing. Standard method, in fact.
I’ve come to the conclusion that development here is driven by the Good Idea Fairy and random Tumblr blogs.
Am I the only one that found OP’s signature amusingly appropriate for this post?
As predicted.
The old system was better. You could get dailies done in a single zone, playing the game instead of having to WP hop across the game.
FTP players can’t access WvW till 60. Only a few dailies are in new zones. Even if a level 15 Norn can easily enter Frostgorge.. what can they possibly do there? In many zones game-available harvest tools are also restricted by level.
Just wait till they move dailies to HoT. They will… Anet expects you to go where they want you to and it is not very negotiable.
As a new player or FTP player you won’t see much sympathy from this “wonderful” community. You will get told “you aren’t doing it right”. Same attitude Anet has now.

It is dreadful, as most of the outfits are. Nothing new. Surprised it is not on fire.
I am completely opposed to modern clothing. They aren’t appropriate for the Tyria world. Talk about breaking immersion!
Immersion? In GW2? Haaa haaa haaa.
Cartoon dreck to go with the cartoon armor, cartoon legendary effects, cartoon wings, etc etc.
Why would we be surprised?
They where never available as armorskins, only as townclothes. Townclothes have been replaced by outfits, which cover the entire body (head-item can be hidden).
If using medium armor, you could get the http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Eagle-Eye_Goggles
to unlock it in your wardrobe, create an engineer in a free character slot (not beta!) and choose the goggles. Once unlocked you can delete the character again to use the slot for other purposes.
My eyeglasses and bunny ears converted to armor skins. All I have left of the town clothes I purchased. I tossed the useless tonics.
Gasp! A druid with a staff.
Still looks like ranger hate to me.
Only heard about Angry Joe months after I had the game.
Now if he does a video to draw in P4F players who join his “army”, they it’ll be interesting.
Eh, I get he’s popular, but I only view him off and on, and he wasn’t the one to get me to GW2.
I prefer yahtzee and his passive-aggressiveness.
Not to mention, running away to join the circus while controlling and summoning beings from the underworld to do menial tasks? sounds good to me!
Best GW2 Review. “does he know we have a spade?”
Bring rage and toxicity to GW2? Guess you weren’t around for Marionette event and Queensdale champ train, as examples. Been here for a good while.
I used to regularly save the Quaggan in Frostgorge just to watch map chat explode.
Map chat here has been some of the most toxic I have ever seen and I’ve played MMOs since 2003.

Oink was indeed Epic.
Still, I would take even Alesia over Trahearn, any day.
Patrols in the Charr Homelands, particularly HM. You checked the professions, the area, did a mental target order, flagged off a hench or two if needed.
This game is designed for Leeroy Jenkins.
I quit caring about AP when it became a list of daily tasks you have to do rather than things you could achieve naturally while playing.
I quit caring about GW2 when I realized ANET is fully invested in forcing groupthink playstyle and could care less about “play your way”.
No. Any income GW gets keeps it on life support, and it is a far better game than this “thing” is.
In fact, I wish there were more items to buy there. I would happily put money there over 60 bucks wasted on a maguuma content pack.
Not a single thing.
