8% of euro ancestry males have a form of color blindness.
EQ2 has an option for color on targeting rings, but don’t hold your breath here.
You will get more of “maybe this isn’t the game for you”
Unfortunate, but it seems to be the reality.
Alternately, come up with a name someone else didn’t altready come up with. You can use SPACES in GW2. It’s not that hard.
This. I named a char created 5 days ago “Kitty”. I guarantee you won’t get a simple name like that in any MMO over 6 months old that uses a single name.
Kitty Lambert? no problem at all. A space solves much.
I am now seeing groups of them in Frostgorge in certain spots. Immobile for hours, heal on the cooldown timer (enemy around or not), killing and mastery looting.
How do you know they are there for hours? Did you stay with them for hours too ?
Yes. I rotate harvesting on 15 characters in Frostgorge. I alternate atk farming bears and champ troll with harvesting to break DR and reset common nodes. They were there, unmoving, overnight. Several times.
I don’t report them unless they haven’t moved for at least an hour.
I don’t think this is all about gold, but more about earning Tyrian Mastery Exp while working, sleeping and doing other activities afk.
EQ2 had a major problem with AFK mercenary leveling, they finally addressed it by drastically reducing Exp from pet only kills. You actively had to damage things with your character for full exp, so paltry EXP unless you used a 3rd party program. They killed the AFK exp gain done by misusing in game mechanics.
They should address it by doing away with ranger pets. hint
wry smile
Oh, minions and such too. >_>
I would love that. Just give my ranger the pet DPS.
BTP means no “inactive” accts.
So, no,
B2P doesn’t mean you get a name etched in stone forever… It means you can load up and play whenever.
Unfortunately there are tons of names in limbo on accounts that haven’t logged in for a long long time…
Name purges have been common among mmos so it will be ok.
Gaile Gray.6029:
We do not take character or display or guild names away from valid accounts. Someone may step away and return to the game later, so the names must stay in place.
Why have several of the game’s reward systems shifted from “a nice little extra for playing” to “do this if you want that”? Either:
- Anet is proud of what they’ve built. Before launch they talked about people playing because it’s fun. The player-base (or at least a vocal part) made it clear they weren’t going to repeat stuff over and over without some incentive besides just fun. Now, ANet uses that realization to point to the various things they’ve built, choosing to emphasize (perhaps) the things that are under-utilized because they don’t offer a rare (like World Bosses do).
- A desperate attempt to keep the game afloat by using rewards to get people to try things they aren’t normally inclined to try, thus increasing and/or extending their play-time.
I’m guessing there’s a little bit of both.
Agreed, and nice post. Trouble is, there is no recognition of “I’ve tried it, no thanks”.
I haven’t seen enough Dailies yet to be sure, but didn’t they remove Fractals from the PvE options, and substitute Jumping Puzzles, Mini-Dungeons and Dungeons? So, are you asking for Fractals to be replaced? And for Jumping Puzzles to be one of the choices when an Activity is part of the Daily options?
Seems just as many, if not more, players lamented the inclusion of Fractals as an option…
There are other options for PVE other than bringing Fractals back.
Perhaps using CC to help deplete a break bar several times? After all, Evade was a daily at one time as an educational tool. Seems more education on Break Bars is needed.
We have had many dailies no longer offered.
You can do JPs with one hand.
No one cares that you are under tier 4 Realm Avenger. But I guess good on you for being proud of small victories?
No one has anything personal against you since WvW doesn’t show names.
Majority of players like JPs, if you don’t and cannot accept them or are incapable of doing them there are options which you should read into before feeling personally assaulted. But if you can’t despite the other options then you can leave no one is forcing you to stay in a realm you do not enjoy. That is not a personal attack, since release A-net has been very clear that the game is not for everyone. If you want to be salty about it then I guess enjoy being pointlessly stressed.
I don’t see what the problem is. If you like doing JPs you jump up and do them, if you don’t but need to do it, get a port. If you cannot tolerate their existence then avoid them but don’t expect the rewards.
If you want the game to cater to a minor subcategory of players, sorry it’s not going to happen.
Try using an AOE on the point, you keep missing it.
So, serious question, could you elaborate more on what you meant by making jumping puzzles activities? As I said in my previous post, it seems like that really changes the character of either activities or jumping puzzles, so I want to understand what you mean.
Simply put JPs in that category and offer one every day. They fit there as well as they do where they are currently. No matter how much Anet shoehorns them in, I still think they should be an optional “Activity” rather than thought of as mainstream PvE, as they were originally. (Josh Freeman stated that they were not meant to be required for World Completion, originally)
1. Increase “Activity” options
2. Allow a daily JP.
3. Allow an additional choice returned for PvE.
Skyrim never told me I had to complete a JP to get the the password to enter Whiterun.
I do a little series of wall jumps every time I enter Bauer in WVW. But, I don’t have to do a JP to get there. Huge difference.
However, I do have to do a platforming puzzle to merely enter Dry Top. Why gate an entire zone? What does this accomplish?
And there lies the difference. Gating content.
Personally, I’d love to see Portals disabled on JPs. Hitting f isn’t actually “doing” a JP.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Ha Ha. More variations on “Get out of the Game”.
Funny. I like to think that some of my modest 4k WvW kills include some of you telling me to “get out”.
Because you got killed by a one handed elderly person who can’t JP and shouldn’t play GW2.
It amuses me.
It also amuses me that they created a Disability Poster Child in-game and everyone cheered that… while continuing to ramp up the amount of actual Disability unfriendly content in game. Meanwhile, the people who cheered poor little Tiami have no issue with telling an actual Disabled person to just get out of the game.
Really awesome stuff.
PS. My OP was not about dailies. It is about the increasing amount of content unnecessarily locked into doing JPs and Platforming.

A giant cannon and 15 mins of Boasting about what an Invincible Legion does to rodents.
Some names are reserved from early Linking to GW as well.

So, no,
Charr in a nutshell.

Up and down matters? This isn’t new. We can’t even scale walls or use ladders here, both things found in far older MMOs, not to mention gliding, jumping to cross terrain, flying, EQ2, in 2005, had easter eggs that could be only accessed by solving a jump route. Nothing innovative here re the 3rd axis, not even by the wildest stretch of imagination.
What is new is increasingly making the platformer puzzle a required aspect of an MMO to progress.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
I’m seriously not caring or complaining about dailies.
I’m wondering why JPs/Platforming have to be increasingly shoehorned into nearly every aspect of the game. Dailies was just the latest example.
I’d be happy if JP’s were a daily every day. As an activity, like Crab Toss or whatever. That is more their niche, to me, and not as a replacement for actual adventuring.
And I do not understand why JPs/Platforming are used as gates to unrelated content, increasingly.
As with the poster above, I’m not understanding it in an RPG setting. No RPG I have ever played made JP’s a thing. All of them, save GW, had jumping as well. They just didn’t fly off cross genre into Super NES Platform land. Not only older games like EQ2 and such, but also newer titles like Skyrim, DragonAge, Fallout.
I can understand people liking them as a side event. I cannot understand how they are increasingly becoming a required part of core gameplay in an RPG.
Oh, just noticed the thread is now complete.
“go play any other MMO”
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
My blocked players list is largely alphabet soup.
It barely resembles the GW1 games at all.
I’m sorry, but you’re just now realizing this?
Anyways, I think platforming is something that GW2 does incredibly well. Especially when compared to other MMORPGs. And I think there are so many other things to complain about other than something optional being added that helps to make jumping puzzles remotely relevant.
Doing jumping puzzles is the most unrewarding thing to do in GW2 besides standing around doing nothing. So, yay, they threw us a bone.
That’s funny. My son is an avid platform and puzzle gamer. I paid him to do a JP for me once. Once. He won’t do another one even for money. Was like “Oh, god, your Norns, your Camera, your Stupid pet. NO”
Mileage varies.
I’d just like to know why it is so important to push platforming as “normal” game play and why it is not considered an activity and put in that category.
Maybe because it’s normal gameplay?
I realize it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay, but I consider jumping around a pretty core gameplay element, between vistas and jumping puzzles, so I have to disagree when it’s treated like something totally unheard of.
If I had to speculate, I would guess that they added jumping puzzles to the Daily roster because a lot of jumping puzzles are thematically interesting areas that people might not visit or re-visit a lot. They’re more a commitment than some older dailies, but that goes hand-in-hand with the higher reward for daily completion since they added gold, plus you can often find a portal to the end, which helps the people who don’t like jumping puzzles while building a sense of players helping players.
That’s a lot of boxes to tick right there, so it seems pretty appealing.
And nothing of what you said would change if JPs were a daily “Activity”.
At launch they were a separate activity, with separate chests and achievements.
3 were needed for World completion, although Josh Foreman said that the original intention was to not need any JPs for world complete. Somehow that changed.
Then they were needed for LS, for story achievements, for crafting, collections, lots of content unrelated to JPs put behind them. All of the Zephyr event was jumping/platforming. Then Dry top got a jumping gate on it. More content put behind JPs with each Chapter, then pretty much an entire expansion of platforming.
And now specific JP PvE dailies, when JPs should be in the Activity category. There should have always been a JP in daily “activities” anyway. That is what they should be. No loss to people who like them.
Unrelenting. I stand by that.
I get my dailies in WvW. They are WvW content. I was not asking how to get dailies done. I don’t go to WvW just to get dailies done, even. They happen while I’m playing a part of the game I enjoy and would do anyway. Unheard of, I know. Frightening concept, even.
JPs were originally a sideshow, and should have remained one, not mainstreamed as much as they have been. In my opinion.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
You either love jumping puzzles or you’re wrong. Jumping puzzles are the lifeblood of this game.
Ah yes, the very soul of the matter. Probably the most honest response I’ll get, and precisely what I suspect is the official stance.
“Play our Way”
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Why? It has been a steadily mounting pressure.
I would guess that at least half of the ones done as dailies are not actually even done.. or more, since people will portal to get them. Your metrics on how many complete them will be so skewed they are meaningless.
Why is it so important to Anet that we do these things? What happened to play “our” way?
Why do you feel you have to herd us around like a pack of Pre Schoolers?
I’m honestly curious. And yes, I’m fine with not getting a Daily JP done, or anything related to a JP done. I’ve managed 3 years here and done 4 puzzles.. 3 by porting, 1 by paying my son to do it.
I’d just like to know why it is so important to push platforming as “normal” game play and why it is not considered an activity and put in that category.

Angorodon in GW sparkfly. Oh, a dino wasn’t enough. They made Necro dinos.
who does that?
It’s more like they disabled air condition on my 3 year old car, ask me to pay the price of a brand new car to get it back, along with a GPS and a spoiler.
To be clear, nothing was disabled for you by not having HoT. You just don’t get that beefier motor that can go faster and do more things essentially.
Not having it doesn’t make the game unplayable, but it makes it harder for you to compete with those who do have the expansion. Call it an engine upgrade, people who bought HoT gained a turbocharger.
Guilds were destroyed for core only players, for one thing.
Magira.6390, get a team a 2 or 3 players, u cant be expecting to do it all alone.
Yes, it looks like this as the end of the solo roaming would come. The World Linking is the kiss of death.
Solo roaming died like 2 years ago where have you been
3 finished Title tracks since the Alpine came back this week. Solo. Roaming. And I’m a 60 yr old with severe arthritus.
Ok, now I’m beginning to think the “roamer” complaints over the map change are more like complaining they can’t pvdoor with a 4 man group unhindered by those nasty people who now show up and chastise them.
I “roam” on FA. Roam as in checking out things, scouting, calling out, taking Sentries, Yaks and Camps and helping defend when needed. I also drop and refresh Siege. I’m all over the map. I could not do that effectively on the pvmap Deserted Borderlands.
I will not play on them. When they rotate back in, I’ll rotate out.
And the Paragon. I forgot about that one.
But then everyone always forgot about the poor Paragon. :P
Male Paragon dance made me block all memories of it.
Okay, first of all I would like it if people making these kinds of “requests” would stop using that term.
Of course it is “legal” for them to be AFK farming, because if it were in fact illegal for them to do so then that would mean that there is a real penalty consisting of a fine and/or imprisonment by their local or federal law enforcement agency. Are you implying that you think these people should be arrested and face a fine or jail time? Are you saying that they do in whatever government jurisdiction you reside in?
Seriously, please stop using it as a way to describe action within the environment of a video game that you feel is a violation of the acceptable way of playing said game.
Break a TOS and the real life consequence is denied access to service. It is a form of “Legal” agreement, but I am sorry I so obviously triggered you by using the word.
Where did you get the outlandish opinion that I am advocating for arrest/jail time?
And FYI, since I can be “Legally” denied service by over-reporting people I would like to know if this is indeed “allowable” under the TOS and not simply a form of Botting. Is that ok with you? I would feel bad if I somehow triggered you again.
Also, I want to know “exactly” how ANET feels about it, since it isn’t my call to define the TOS or “an acceptable way of playing”. Or yours.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
In the arctodus area by the Claw event. All over, some in the open, the groups generally hide down by the Den Mother Vet. They avoid the Grawl patrol area and Troll area. I’m assuming they want Blood and mastery EXP.
I would have bought the ability to have an Elite core spec. I play Rangers, I would have payed for a Ranger elite over a bizarre hybrid druid. Say, one where I could drop the Pet, become a real Ranger as opposed to a Wow Hunter class, and have a line that made up the pet DPS loss.
Most Rangers in GW dropped the pet anyway, because we could.
Considering the lore re Tengu I cant understand how they will fit. Only a tiny minority of canthan Tengu had a very tenuous peace with Humans. All mainland Tengu were KOS to humans.
They remain Xenophobic. They stood callously and slaughtered anyone who got near their precious gate during the Battle of LA. Refugees. Innocents. They picked a side, Theirs.
I haven’t noticed this yet but “lower” cannon on south hills won’t hit stairs anymore. As if there is an invisible wall blocking the shots.
Yes, that cannon is useless now. Shots hit that invisible wall.
Please. Even in the thread where a Dev made a statement it came out vague. In that thread, and others, people are insisting that his first statement means that AFK farming is not only legal, but “as intended”. They ignore the second statement.
People are insisting it is legal. Word is getting around I guess, I am now seeing groups of them in Frostgorge in certain spots. Immobile for hours, heal on the cooldown timer (enemy around or not), killing and mastery looting.
Please make a CLEAR statement. Please, and not hide this in a merged thread.
Nobody is playing anymore. Interesting. My borderland is often qued up by these nonpersons I guess.
PS. They aren’t new maps.
In GW Anet balanced skills in PvP separately from PvE and attempted to keep the PvP meta in balance without impacting PvE. They did not mandate a purchase of EoTN by allowing those factional skills into PvP, and it was a smarter move. However, PvE elitists demanded those skills from groups, and it did hurt players without the Expac. Ursan anyone?
Now? They would rather leverage a HoT purchase. Same as nerfing Core guilds into nothing and taking features away, instead of adding to content people had for years.
And why would I buy HoT? Gliders annoy me. Gimmicky puzzle zones and mazes annoy me. The callous killing of Eir annoyed me. DE2 annoys me. I’m sick of Sylvari centric everything. I don’t want an ersatze Druid nor would I play one.
So. Why should I waste money on it. I’ll buy when they add features I want. I will not buy because they marginalize the core game to leverage it.
And yet, in GW, PvP metas changed to incorporate non-PvE skills from the later campaigns. I remember Searing Flames and Sandstorm meta builds, for instance. Icy Veins, the main skill in the Icy Veins spike, was introduced and only available in Factions. If you only PvP’d, you could just choose to buy the skill packs separately. So, it was not really that different. They may have done a better job of balancing, they may not have. I seem to recall a lot of complaints back then.
Complain all you want about HoT, but enough with the grass is greener stuff.
I was referring to the Faction skills from EoTN which did impact PvE disproportionately and were kept out of PvP totally. And for PvE, those same skills were a must have if you wanted groups. But, whatever.
For clarification-
What is NOT allowed- 3rd party tools that provide automation which allows your toon to move/attack while your away from the computer.
What IS allowed- Ranger/Necros/Guards, allowing pets or traits to damage the attacker while mastery’s auto loot.
They are aware this is a major flaw, but they haven’t done anything to fix it, and haven’t implemented any suspensions to those that are doing it.
I think you are unqualified to give an absolute answer, as you are not a Red Name. You are giving a mistaken opinion.
The mechanics are allowed. Using them to AFK farm is not.
It is allowed.
Show me the post that’s not 3 years old where it says it’s not allowed.
Tell me why the same person who has been reported by numerous people for 5-6 months is probley in game right now afk farming red in Silverwastes. Tell me why i personally know several people who afk farm requarlary without any consequence.
More importantly- tell me why there are far more people doing it today, then there ever have been.
What’s the answer?
“Anything” That would include abuse of poorly thought out In Game mechanics to “walk away from the game”. Doesn’t matter how old Regina’s post is. It shows they have, from the start, been opposed to unattended gameplay.
Don’t be obtuse. You are using the same old “it must be ok to cheat because I see people cheating” argument. One that is far older than this game, and never valid.

(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Playing unattended is not allowed, and this was settled years ago
from Regina.
“Anything that automates game play to the point where you are able to not actually play the game as-intended (example: you can walk away from it) is considered a breach of the User Agreement.”
None of the above. Bad enough the Charr were snowflaked to make them playable.
I’m sure that reading more suggestions will convince me the game is doomed.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Oh Yes. Let people fly right into the NE tower, among other places.
No wings in PvP. Bad enough they are in Core.
Not allowed. The dev’s follow up clarified that.
People, as always, so quick to grasp at any straw to rationalize cheating.
It is unattended gameplay, pure and simple.
As a daytime NA player on FA this amuses me.
What goes around comes around. Deal with it.
Seems that at least half of the posts in this “bring it back” thread don’t want it back at all.
Laughing so hard. A long time ago, I said that if Anet decided mounts were worth selling, we would have mounts.
And now we are seeing the slow progression into that. Gliders in Core (see “no reason to have them” argument), and now this little change.
All of the dead horse gifs and expressions of horror accomplished nothing. More Mounts will come, people will buy and use them enthusiastically, and still stubbornly proclaim “It’s not a mount”
So very amusing.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Thank you so much. I played perhaps an hour in that horrid desert maze and had a hard time even finding my way around in Garrison. Then I left the game for 5 months.
10 hours in WvW today on the Alpine Map. Not in the zergs either. I am so happy.
Now, now. This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let’s not bicker and argue about who killed who.
I see what you did there. It’s all about huge tracts of land.
The town that Genocide built. The chamber of commerce there tries to keep that under the rug.
