GW1 main & your GW2 main

My main is always a Ranger archetype in every game.

Main in GW1, Prophecy Ranger with a Melandru’s stalker. And.. I had 2 other Rangers. Canthan and Elonian

Main here is Norn Ranger with Owl, also have another ranger already.

I really really wish Melandru were tamable here. I miss my kitty. I also miss the armor options in GW1, we need a simple skirt with top like Studded or Tyrian.

You are going to find that in pugs, pvp of any sort, in any game.

Frostgorge generally has more players, events get done, and the 80s end drops as well as any other 80 zone. Cove and Orr are just abandoned content generally.

What you are asking here for OP is:

“Please make the living story content less living!”

It is SUPPOSED to interfere with the daily routine. It is SUPPOSED to be harder then normal content. It’s the freaking dredge and flame legion technology and magic combined. These things make the world more dynamic. I for one actually like events, that don’t play out the same way every time.

Side note: I have an alt, an lv18 Engieneer. You know what I did when I encountered events that were too hard for me on Wayfarer Foothills? Asked for help…

And how do you so firmly assert how ANYTHING is “supposed” to be in this game unless you designed it? Link to a Red name please, or remind yourself that it is only your opinion.

Dynamic. rofl. Yes, that scope was back up in 3 mins. Dynamic all right. World changing. And guess what.. things play out the same, over and over, all day long.

Why would ANYONE design new content that is “supposed to be harder” only for level appropriate chars in a zone? New chars. My 70s and 80s swat this “supposed to be harder” content like bugs. Not hard, not at all. The “supposed to be harder” theory only effects a very small part of the population.. those from 5-25 who are “supposed” to be in those zones. What logic is this?

There is “harder” content designed for low level players, and in the mission I mentioned, 3 “normal” Veterans ambushing the escort. So why such a magnitude of difficulty increase for only low levels who do not have the skills to cope with it. Normal “Veterans” in these zones don’t begin to have the difficulty.

Also, the part being missed.. Not complaining re the Living Content being hard or not. I don’t care. The point is, poor placement of it makes other, unrelated content harder or even undoable for actual low levels. They cannot bypass this stuff in some areas. My complaint is that it impacts low levels just attempting to do “normal” quests, and doesn’t impact a high level at all.

Also, I am done with the zones, this is my 8th char and they are finished. I am not asking for myself, in any way, as I don’t need to be there. But things like this need pointed out.

And done with this thread. Obviously Anet could feed some of you maggots on a cracker, call it a pizza, and you would rave about the meal.

To the people that tell me to “group up” guess what.. it’s still a solo thing for a high level, even downleveled.

It is only “group” for characters who are actually appropriate level for the zone.

Sorry, that is bad design, adding content that is not “group” labeled to a zone that people of that level can’t do, because of lack of traits and skills.

You can rationalize and preach all you want about “roleplaying” or “entitlement” and it does not excuse the poor placement of these scopes and molten spawns.

I cannot believe, not for one moment, that this content was tested using level appropriate characters.

Snowden. Doing an escort with a level 20 char in full green, level 20. I’ve done this escort a lot, always solo, you get a couple Vets attack, but do-able.

Not now. Sonic Periscope aggroes on the escort and pulls them, and if you happen to get a Veteran Molten spawn, forget it. You have to try and take the scope out.. it will stop any rez efforts on the caravan. You have to dodge the scope and the Vet.. hardly doable at this level. I drew a Protector, who stopped damage to the scope. Oh, and if you try to pull the Vet out of the KD range of the scope, it will reset.

You cannot bypass this periscope, the Caravan will not pass it without resetting or dying to Moltens. It is in range of the next ambush, Grawl with a Vet Shaman.

This is not a group escort mission. It is normal gameplay, disrupted and made impossible by unthinking placement of Living content. I do not feel I should have to log a Level 80 to clear the area so my Level 20 doing a level 20 escort could continue it.

Extend the Invuln. time for meta bosses.

Consider adding a few more seconds, 15-20, to the time between the event phase that activates the Boss and the Boss going Vulnerable or spawning.

People doing some of the activation events prior to the Boss take the risk of it being down before they even get a shot in because of the horde of campers already engaging it the instant they can, or in the case of the wurm, even"before" they can.

On Maw we already see more people camping at the boss and attacking it than people going to close the portals at times. People NEED to close those portals, give them a chance to do so.. and not risk no credit for the boss phase.

Behemoth.. If you are destroying Portals in Taminn Foothills.. forget it. Today.. TWO of us did that, while the 50 or so standing at the Behemoth just waited. Guess what two did not get a shot at the chest. Almost.. another 15-20 seconds and I would have made it… and I used a wp and speed buff. In the time it took to WP to Godlost and run to Behemoth the swamp portals were gone and the Boss was at 10%.

The OP is not overreacting from the perspective of an actual new player in a zone supposed to be for new players. Like Poster Moletti.

It is 10 am CDT. On Fort Aspenwood, the zone is empty. All periscopes were up and unkilled. This means a new, low level player IS gated from Twinspur Haven vista.. and if they damage that particular scope, most times it will spawn a Molten Vet. There is no way to get to this vista without engaging the scope.

If they attempt to do the Ram mission for Joffe, they will enter the aggro of a scope.. and have KD spam while attempting a hard boss for low levels. This scope also covers the road, and will KD spam players who are also being attacked by Svanir popups. No prob to an 80.. but the zone is supposed to be for a level 8 new player. This scope will also, often, spawn level 16 Moltens.. the area is 8.

Farther up, a scope will spawn in range of an escort mission. At the same place a svanir ambush drops down. If there are Molten spawn, they will aggro the escort as well.. along with the normal ambushers. Again, an issue for a new player of that level.

Doing Frozen Maw, the scope will be in range of players engaging the south shamans. That scope will also be in range of players doing the Grawl Shaman DE.

Placement of these scopes was not well thought out. They overlap into content designed for low levels, making that content much harder, or impossible, to do at that low level (not downleveled players).

Someone said the affects the whole player base. Well, no not really. It affects smaller guilds mostly, if they in fact used that one single feature. I’m in a guild of 80 people and never used that feature once. I don’t even think we bothered unlocking it.

It’s not really all that useful. What it means for most people is that they have to think about what they’re going to take with them before they go into a dungeon. You know, bring the potions and food you’ll need with you up front.

Annoying, maybe. Gamebreaking…I think most people played the game without guild transport to begin with.

Whether you deem it worthless or not, the fact remains, Anet removed something earned legitimately by honest players, in a futile attempt to curb dishonest players.

That is the point. I had earned the upgrade, playing by their rules, and they changed them. I could understand removing the upgrade to stop a serious exploit, but fail to see the logic in leaving the upgrade in at a much much higher cost. The “exploit” remains, but out of the reach of small guilds.. some of whom had already earned it.

And so.. if it is fine for large guilds to still have it.. why is it not fine for mine to have been grandfathered?

Implementation of this non-fix defies logic.

It happens.. Thing is – this doesn’t stop you accessing it by visiting the Guild banks in major cities.

But maybe that is the point. It is much easier for GM’s to watch ONE area for RMT activity rather than watch TONS of areas for RMT. Basically now they can sit in the main cities watching chat logs/mail logs etc. I would guess if this is the reason they did it (for the rmt) then it makes sense why.

How does that make sense. A large guild can still do it. Whatever exploit was involved can still be done. Vaults are still available. How does this stop anything? Whatever was being done can still be done. All they will accomplish is removing this perk from small guilds. Small guilds are the only exploiters?

I think it’s to stop gold sellers from using it to trade money with buyers. I assume tracking in game mail is a lot easier than tracking guild bank transactions

How about they deal with the Gold sellers means of acquiring gold.. rather than the theoretical means of delivering it. I see harvest bots daily, I run across farming bots daily. It never ends. THAT is what needs addressed.

If indeed your theory is correct.. its the same old ANET. They will remove something from innocent players.. and this change will indeed remove it… and all this does to the abusers is a temporary setback they will work around shortly. This happened over and over in GW1. Nothing new.

It’s either lose the vault or have DR hit you harder. Personally, I rather lose the vault, it’s a minor thing for most people and still sufficiently affordable for guilds to use it.

ONE poster conjectures that this was to stop gold sellers. ONE. And, thanks for the example, as DR impacts honest players harder than the automated bots who really don’t care, since there is no DR on harvestables.. and they run farm bots for weeks unconcerned with DR anyway.

And if that’s the case that’s completely fair and something they need to do but, they also need to not punish legitimate players while they do that.

And that, as they say, is the rub. You say you are a legitimate player that has never abused these vaults, but I’m sure the guy running the bots would say the same. I’m not doubting your honesty, I am only saying that apparently this drastic step was necessary to make the economy stronger. If it is any consolation, the cost of making some players upset, I’m sure, weighed in their options, but at the end of the day this was deemed to be the best approach.

This being done to thwart Gold Sellers is a theory, not a fact… and even if true, will not impact the game economy at all, much less make it stronger.

Conversely, I casually swatted some level 6 svanir outside of Hoelbrak and picked up an 80 rare.

Really now… I can dodge that annoying troll for several minutes, deal with its Vet and normal adds.. longer if solo.. and expect no more than backhanding some minimum level Trash?

Is it intended that world rewards be limited to a 50 player zerg on a meta boss and pure RNG unrelated to level or difficulty?

This is so skewed.

And regarding world chests… I’ve gotten better loots from chests in the starting zone than this one guarded by a champ troll, vet trolls and others. Intended? Hmm. Dragons are the main Protagonists.

We have Ogres, Trolls, Jotun, Krait(Naga),Wargs, ghosts, Dredge, Griffins, pirates, giant spiders, ooze creatures, undead etc etc etc.

We adventure in dungeons and caves. With Humans, Big Nordic Humans, a large Anthropomorphic beast race, a small, techno race prone to techno mishaps, and a Nature race with pointed ears.

I guess I don’t see the originality in the ingredients. The recipe is different..the treatment is different, but a lot of this is standard fare folks.

So because you get more hits from a word that has been used for hundreds of years in many different contexts than a word that comes from one game, it means charr are hated and everyone wants to include elves in GW2?

What do the most successful fantasy MMOs have in common? They had elves! People love elves. Remember EQ? And then WoW.

GW2 would have been better off not trying to be so original, and just stick with the races that people know and love. I’d guess that 80% of players dislike the Charr and Asura races. The Sylvari are not much better, although I suppose they are the closest you can get to an elf.

I don’t think you could have said anything more wrong. Many people are getting sick of Elves. Charr & Asura are 2 of the things that make this game great. Even if it’s just visual.

Interesting though. 30 year old NES junk is ecstatically raved about, but elves are no go. I find it very funny.

So take a hint & realize people are sick of them.

Why so hostile? I’m not the OP, didn’t suggest Elves ingame, and must have touched a nerve there. Take a hint, google Elves, google Charr, and get back to me on which is more popular overall.

Take a hint.. “you” are sick of them.

Again, I didn’t suggest Elves in game. The game has Sylvari, which are fae enough and pointy eared enough to more than fit the niche.

And where did you get all that? “it means charr are hated and everyone wants to include elves in GW2?” When did I state that, or imply that?

Like it or not, you have an Elf like race in game. One that did not exist in GW1. I would theorize that when Anet created a race out of thin air, that race having a resemblance to Elven types was not accidental, due to the popularity of such races in other games, popular literature, fantasy in general.

They even went so far as to include the classic dichotomy of good “elves” vs bad “elves” with the Nightmare Court, a concept ripped from the Unseely Court of Fae, elven and Faerlie Celtic mythology. (as well as the Wyld Hunt concept)

And why would I lobby for inclusion of Elves in this game, when, for all intents and purposes, they are already in.

The no jumping thing is enough to make some people want to tear their eyes out…

True story…

It’s an alright game, but it’s a good thing GW2 isn’t like it in most ways—otherwise it wouldn’t have been nearly as successful.

Funny, as the success of GW1 made this game possible.

Good thing this game tried to be more original and not recycle the same races you see in every other MMORPG.

Haaaa Haaa haaa..

Charr.. Orc, Tauren, etc.
Sylvari… Fae. EQ2 Fae are even plant born. Elves.
Norn. … Barbarians, Halasians.. eq staple for 13 years.
Asura are soooo Gnomish. geez.

Game over.
Nostalgic euphoria is short lived.

In a months time you will have remembered why your NES hit the garage, garage sale, or dumpster.

You all seem to remember how great is was, and forget.. you quit playing it. It will come back to you before too long.

Well, for some, I will just say, some day they may do something that you get concerned about. I hope you post it. And, I hope that you get the usual pile of people telling you to not let the door hit you on the way out while doing the usual ad-hominem attacks

Karma.. its not just a game currency.

Please no more 8 bit music after april 1st

People will say “no big deal”.

But that theme has been evocative for me since seeing the first promo vid of Devona. It is a grand theme, all through GW1, the Credits in the End instances, the music always had meaning and feeling to me.

What they did to it is criminal. I cannot get out of the selection screen fast enough. This should not have been done to such a nice bit of music.

Why they cheapen their own creation is beyond me.

No one knows what the silent majority is doing. Silently playing the game, or Silently uninstalling it.

Except that one party does know what they are doing, and will make choices based on that. Namely ArenaNet, obviously.

Arenanet can certainly track acct usage, or lack of. In the absence of input, they cannot know why. If a person stops logging in, that is all they know, not why, if that person is “silent”. They cannot know if a person continues to play in spite of undesired aspects of the game in absence of input. If a customer is silent, they cannot track “why”, neither pro or con. Developers make disastrous decisions as well as good ones based upon their perceptions. All businesses do. None are omnipotent.

Trying to claim what the “silent majority” likes or dislikes is fail, considering they are silent.

I will always remember John Smedly, CEO of SOE, stating that “people who like the NGE are playing the game, not posting on the forums” Shortly after that, they lost massive numbers of subscribers, and were forced to refund an expansion purchase to anyone that asked for it.

Don’t play Guild Wars 1, the game this is a sequel to, then. It has grinches running around on Christmas, your inventory filling with things like candy canes or Easter eggs depending on the date. Oh, and a techologically sophisticated race known as the Asura, who have access to technology such as artificial intelligence, portal networks, and hardlight constructs capable of rendering an entire virtual world.

Big Differences. The two console inspired instances were set in GW era, using GW art, landscapes, graphics. You did Pac Man on a Worm in the Sulfurous wastes, and Polymock was Asuran themed.. even though pokemon. At no time in GW1 did you enter some cheesy knockoff of another platforms graphics and music. The commando stuff was instanced, and no commando skins, weapons, etc ever reached the open game world. There were no Pac Man minis, no Pac Man boxes of fun, nothing like that.

This is very different. Imperial Tie fighters strafing charr might be “fun” too, but I don’t think we need Battlefront here. 3rd Reich Zombies might be “fun”, but we don’t need Wolfenstien. I don’t want to see the Master Chief either. Or Lara Croft, for that matter.
