Most of the time that I kill a periscope it leaves no wreckage to loot for the audio recordings.
Is this as intended?
Wiki states they will leave a recording for all players in the area, but that is it. Nothing about a random chance of wreckage.
Talk about nitpicking. You’re kitten off that you think the coin is gonna replace a blue/green item?
I often pull rares from that chest on my 80s. People didn’t like porous bones for those small chests loot either and complained. This coin is worth nothing, at least the bones sold.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
It doesn’t take the place of any of the chest items, it’s on a separate table. So again you have no reason to complain. This is easily seen in smaller chests or if you actually knew how many items you were suppose to be getting from the chest you did open. For example I’ve been doing an easy jump puzzle with 5 characters to get some coins, its chest gives 3 items, when there is a coin, it’s a 4th item and I’m still getting 3 items in addition to it. Basically, you were complaining about getting a free item that in no way affects your other loot gain.
Basically I loot that chest every day on 6 chars. Basically I know how many items are in them. Basically, the coin was not an extra item. So, Basically, you aren’t a dev, and basically don’t know any more than I do. Basically. But thanks for the Lecture. Its not a JP Chest
I’ll determine if I have a reason to complain, thanks. Not your call. And basically, my op is asking if it is on a separate table, a question you are not qualified to answer. If indeed it is a separate table, ofc, no problem.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
I complain because it seems to replace an item of value from chests I can open one time per day.
If it is on a separate table fine. But I don’t want to see this special interest only item replacing a normal roll item.
I don’t get the point of whining about what you consider whining, either. See how that works?
Just looted one from a chest by the Svanir Vet in wayfarer. No where near a JP.
And I wish I could sell it. Even give it away. It is less than worthless junk to me.
Platforming loot should come from platforming if it is going to be acct bound. You know, for people who actually do those things.
or are they separate, on another table.
If these things are replacing actual, valuable loot on a roll, I’m very annoyed. Can’t sell them, won’t use them.
I didn’t buy this to play N64 crap.
I can understand them from JP chests. Not from world chests unrelated to platforming.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
In Wayfarer, Periscopes spawn and interfere with other events, particularly part of maw, when you are in range of the spammed KD for part of the event, and the particle effect of the eavesdrop is only adding insult to an already particle saturated area. This same periscope will spam KDs on players during the ice Elemental battle at the homestead, and on players doing the Snowman collection for Rani.
Fissures spawn ice elementals on players engaging Wolfmaster, killing the ram, and other events. A periscope will also spawn on players doing the trophy ram, adding KD spam to that event.
Invasion Portals spawn often at the end of the Escort Brewmaster, often adding a Veteran or two, and increasing the difficulty for actual newer players.
None of this is really an issue for scaled down 80s, but I’ve seen level appropriate characters insta owned by these events adding to an event they are engaged in.
It is still a new player zone.
Perhaps in the future they could be isolated a bit more?
Yeah, that whole no army thing went really well when Jormag rose. I am sure all the Norn that survived that would agree with you, the Norn don’t need help from anyone and can do everything.
Might I suggest you read up a bit on Norn history? Specifically the parts about them being totally owned by Jormag and his minions. ( both before GW2 and during GW1 or Primordus minions for that matter.)
I would suggest the same. In GW1 Jora, Norn, and a Player killed the sole minion of Jormag, if you want to call Svanir that. What part of GW1 shows Norn doing anything but helping kill Destroyers? What part of GW1 shows Norn even having trouble with them prior to being conned into helping fight them?
Who successfully resisted the Dragons? The Charr Armies? The Corsairs? Anyone, when they Rose? This story isn’t about dragons BTW. Just pointing that out.
whatever. Bye, Fan Club.
Also, as for observing that chance meeting:
The whole Flame and Frost storyline was set up, storytelling-wise, by your race’s Destiny’s Edge member (who has, if you remember, served as some sort of a mentor to your character through your personal story) sending you a notice about the Bad Stuff happening in the north, urging you to go help out.
Now, being familiar with the members of Destiny’s Edge, it does actually make sense for you to check in with the command center in the area once in a while (instead of just running around the map looking for heads to bash in). And seeing as the Norn, as a whole, are much less organized than the charr, plus half of the threat stemming from Flamelegion Charr…well, logically speaking, you would be skulking around Rytlock’s offices from time to time. While random encounters are not necesarrily a good way to tell a story, they are used often enough, so don’t act as if this was totally outrageous. I’m pretty sure we had some chance encounters over the course of GW1…
My Mentor is Eir.. you know, the one that was oblivious to my presence at the meeting, and I wasn’t allowed to talk to.
I’m Vigil. I have nothing to do with the remnants of Destiny’s Edge, beyond Eir. I have absolutly no reason or inclination to lounge around in Rytlocks office or have anything to do with him, and so far in game, have not. My character is not familiar with Destiny’s Edge beyond some overblown reputation. I did not wander about trying to put them back together, there were other, more pressing matters.
But I’m done. I’m sure the fanclub has 50 plus reasons why Eir ignores all of her Norn students, She’s Blind, and hiding it. Seeing her son brought on Temporary Amnesia. She never really liked us, it was just a job. Garn was Yakking on the carpet and distracted her. We forgot our nametag. etc etc.
If Scotty had beamed Braham in you all would have 50 reasons to rationalize that too.
He said it himself: Norn have no armies.
If an army comes at your house, you call for an army to fight it.And the citadel is actually closer than Hoealbrak, and easier to access.
Norn do not NEED armies. Or.. didn’t. What army did they call to do the following?
From the “Movement of the World”
“Many expected the initial Charr expansion through northern Tyria to become a tide of blood that would crash upon the Shiverpeaks, drowning Charr and Norn alike. The reality proved different. When the Charr reached the foothills, the Norn drove them back with a single crushing blow, completely decimating every warband sent against them. "
There is another installment in the F&F arc, remember. This might be expanded upon.
I’m aware there’s still more, but as far as story telling goes i feel that expanding on his backstory isn’t a likely priority, so much as expanding him as a character would be. Fleshing out his role in the world.
Well, remember, for norn it’s about what your deeds are rather than who you’re related to. Braham hasn’t done anything yet, but he’s sure on the path to doing something to get him a lot of glory and free ale.
I’m more interested in Rox, but then that’s because my charr is probably my second favorite character. My norn is probably my third.
How utterly single dimensional. Of course they would care who he is, son of famous parents, he would be known, under scrutiny, and under more pressure to create something of himself. To infer that he would be some unknown, in spite of his parents, it silly and unrealistic. He would have to prove himself, but to imply anonymity till he does is just wrong. Norn are a people, not a single aspect.
Basically famous daddy takes son from famous mommy to raise… Because famous daddy loves her so much he wants nothing to get in the way of her growing into a truly legendary figure among the norn. (though we all know she ends up surpassing that and becomes famous among all races.) He goes so far as to ask his friends to raise his boy when he passes and even demands that no one tell her he is dead. Out of fear she will be tempted to go there and raise her so, rather then become the great and heroic figure she is now… Kind of romantic if you think of it like a norn.
Seconding this, it screams “norn” and is a good example of my norn culture =/= human culture post.
Norn aren’t Klingons, no matter how badly you want to fanfic it. Legend could not supplant everything else in a functunal culture, maternalism, compassion, responsibility, care for a child you bore. I will still see Eir as more than some ego driven opportunist not wanting a child dragging her down, in spite of this story, and these contrived explanations.
Eirs character in game gave hope to some sort to depth to the Norn Female beyond the stupid drunken, egotistical, dolyak wrassling one dimensional characters littered all over. I guess thats too much, as I see you all cramming her into that one little norn box.
Link sources please. I would be interested in how much of this is lore, and how much just opinion.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
You know, I’m just going to forget all of this, because these are the GW2 Norn, and who knows what these loveable, laughable Shiverpeak Hillbillys will do next.
Gonna tell you all a story bout a girl named Eir, a poor mountaineer who didn’t know she had an heir…
Then one day she was chattin with the Knut.. and in through the door walks her very own brood!
Braham, that is. Was drunk that day. Lost a wager…..
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Braham being Eir’s son is unnecessary drama, worse because it’s unnecessary drama that’s contrived.
my thought exactly. The story linked is not much better.
I’m wondering what was the point of telling Braham EIRSson that Eir is his mother? Seems that would have been a question asked long before.
Dad, why am I named Eirs Son? gawd.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Cutie Pie Kitty Cat.
Then perhaps Chauncey Von Snuffles III will be the inspiration for the Male version.
Mountain Lion cubs are cute. Lion cubs are cute. They somehow manage it without the cutesy anime crap.
“Hello Player.. you have been invited to hang around in Rytlocks offices to observe a chance meeting you have no foreknowledge of. Act Surprised.”
This is good storytelling? Who, of any race, had a logical reason to even BE in that location save being told to observe a “random” encounter.
There could have been many ways to get players there. Logical, well written ways.
Even personalized a bit. Rytlock to Charr.. I need your assistance in a small manner, be at my Office bla bla bla. Rytlock to Player…. Tag along with this Cub, let me know how she handles herself. etc etc.
Eir sends Norn a message. Meet me at Knut’s Loft, we need to discuss Refugee issues. Bam, Son barges in. After all, Eir is our pal right?? Yet she doesn’t even know us.
Eir to Player.. Please, talk to him, help him… he won’t accept it from me.. nor would it end well.. ect ect.
Starters could have been generic for the other races. Meet x at x to discuss Refugee matters.. a reason to be there.. and observe the meetings. Perhaps a message from your first Mentor, requesting you to talk to Rytlock, Knut, re the refugee and invasion issues, and boom, you happen to be in the right place to catch the dialogs.
Sorry, FanClub, this is poor writing, poor storytelling, and far below GW1 storytelling.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
No. I find the whole concept ludicrous.
It also makes a lot more sense that our characters are involved in both stories this way. It would be a bit too much of a coincidence if we went to see Rytlock right at the time he was giving Rox her orders AND walked into Hoelbrak just as Braham was asking Knut for help.
But like Tinni said the norn don’t have a government, each homestead is self-governed and independant. They get to make up their own rules, and it’s pretty unlikely those rules would include helpling other homesteads whose leaders have had a massive falling out with respected members of their community.
So Braham looked at his situation – he’s got a bunch of small homesteads who, if they aren’t already, will soon be as badly off as his and can’t afford to leave their own homes undefended to help; he’s got a big settlement (Hoelbrak) who have the ability to help him but no desire to do so, and also more than enough of their own problems with the influx of refugees on top of the usual issues. Or he’s got another big “homestead” full of trained warriors who are also facing this threat and who don’t have any reason to hate him.
Which of those looks like the best choice to you?
I don’t know. I had never set foot in the Black Citadel, in spite of having 4 level 80 Characters, and not much reason to ever do so. Made no sense, to me, to be conveniently lounging in Rytlocks office, and a lot of sense for me to be in Hoelbrak.
Braham going to Rytlock first was unnecessary in my opinion, and added nothing.
The start of both quests did not have to be conjoined in the same location, and to be picky, happened in separate locations implying I had nothing to do but follow Rytlock around and eavesdrop on him, and he was fine with it.
Let’s not forget that locked chests can be sold on the TP. Enterprising individuals with a supply of chests could benefit from this surge in demand for chests and keys. The losses of many become the gains of a few.
Half a million locked chests available at 9 copper or less. I don’t think so.

Yeah… dealing with “Norn problems as Norn” worked so well against Jormag didnt it?
Excuse me, what part of the “personal” storyline involves dealing with Jormag, which is exactly what Norn characters should have been doing.
More canned content. As done with flame and frost as I am with the Legend of Trahearne.
You complained why the Norn arent dealing with the Molten Alliance themselves. It’s not my fault your chosen race has a history of failure and hubris. At least one of them is smart enough to know they need help, even if your Norn isnt.
Take your dead horse complaints about personal story to the right forum.
Failure and Hubris. Ok. The only race that the Charr respected enough not to overrun. The race that didn’t destroy its own capitol in a fit of rage. The race that was not driven out of its home by destroyers long before the dragons. Oh, Ok.
Fact remains that this whining little boy lacked the courage and respect to rally Norn to him, for the hunt if nothing else. He is a weak, pitiful character. Making him Eir’s long lost really didn’t help. Using that as an excuse not to turn to his own people was lame.
And the Svanir? They have no aspirations for the lands the Alliance are trying to take? They just going to sit around? They are a nonfactor?
Not up to GW1 storytelling, not by a mile.
Braham did nothing re the animal spirits, no asking for guidance, no shaman, nothing. We helped Jora .. because Bear told her to ask us.
Knut’s excuse. My wolfguard is spread too thin. That is a Krytan excuse, not Norn. When did the Norn become a nation of cowering krytan peasants? When did they become simple hunters, farmers, peasants unable to protect themselves? “Norn do not need Armies” as Jora said. So why did little Braham run off to the nearest Military command?
Eir’s reaction? No outrage, no sympathy, no offer to help..you need to stay here in Hoelbrak as her only response? What? Really?
From the “Movement of the World”
“Many expected the initial Charr expansion through northern Tyria to become a tide of blood that would crash upon the Shiverpeaks, drowning Charr and Norn alike. The reality proved different. And now, the race that did this, does nothing about this invasion but run.
I did the story. I know what was said. Knowing it doesn’t make it palatable.

The class was playable in a couple of special April Fools instances in GW1. Even had a Mohawk helicopter sitting at Embark. All of it was Terminator themed, back in time blah blah blah kill terminator robot/golum.
Yeah, I play MMOs to rehash tired old N64 garbage.
You take that back immediately! N64 is the greatest thing that ever happened in the history of humanity!
For my generation Space Invaders was… and I never want to see that, or Pong, in an MMO either.
Having experienced the quality and depth of gameplay Anet is capable of, in GW1, makes this game seem woefully lacking.
It is prettier. Characters are nicer. Beyond that.. well.. not seeing it.
If you have a small non asuran character, you are stuck with the stock white GS.. or Ebon Vanguard GS for any hope of scaled appearance. GS are waay overdone.
But.. the trend is towards wow weaps/armor.. the magic lantern w/e shoulders are beyond ridiculous.
Just what we need in the game. Yeah, I play MMOs to rehash tired old N64 garbage. Wow. They took development hours to do this.
Incredible. Just.. speechless. This is just more worm Pac Man and Asura Pokemon, both failures in GW1.
This has been brought up before, now, with the Living story prompt it is just more useless UI clutter.
And while Im asking.. an option to mute bells.
Yeah… dealing with “Norn problems as Norn” worked so well against Jormag didnt it?

Personal story is just as bad. Your first Vigil recruiter will tell you that you are not qualified to Join the Vigil, even after you outrank him.
Why am I dealing with a charr, in a charr city, to work on a Norn Problem?
Why is the Norn leadership and Capitol constantly ignored save a few references to Destiny’s Failures. What is Knut Whitebear doing? collecting worms?
I get it, this is now “one big happy family tyria” but Norn should remain Norn, and deal with Norn problems as Norn.
I don’t quite understand liking something that doesn’t exist yet.
A while back a statement was made, by a developer re this.
“Josh Foreman.8250:
. But after I handed the map off to someone else, I know we changed our policy so that no JPs are required for events, map complete, etc. "
So what is the “policy”? I know of 3, Scaffolds, Breached Wall, and Viziers Tower that require you to finish a Jumping Puzzle to reach vistas and skill points.
I thought that JPs were to be optional activities. They are not, unless you wish to be gated from zone completions, world completion, and legendary crafting. I suppose all those are “optional” too.
I have a severe motor skills handicap, Rhuematoid Arthritus and nodules in my hands, so please spare me any lecture regarding how “easy” they are, please. I had trepidations before buying this game, knowing my motor skills would not be up to platforming. I foolishly took the “optional activities” statements as fact, without researching the actual need to do them.
I know it is hard to comprehend, but some choose not to buy into the cell phone garbage.
This hurts Engineer by limiting options. Turrets have one shot and are insta-destroyed even by low level Krait. Supply drop the same.
Ok I have made quite a few whiny posts myself, but this is ridiculousness. You are being forced to do jumping puzzles because you want map completion? I would pity you if the puzzles were even slightly difficult or tedious; but they aren’t.
Congrats on your empathy. Try jumping puzzles with one usable finger on the left hand, and 4 too twisted and twitchy for adequate control on the right. Do not lecture me on difficulty, I play this game at a level of difficulty you cannot dream of, and I hope never have to.
My problem lies in this developer statement.
Josh Foreman.8250:
. But after I handed the map off to someone else, I know we changed our policy so that no JPs are required for events, map complete, etc. I haven’t actually gone back to that map since launch, so I haven’t seen all the changes, but it’s possible that what you’re seeing is left overs from work I did that had to be cut. But I know that several enterprising map artists are digging around for spots to add more JPs, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it got reopened at some point.
If their policy is indeed that “no JPs are required for events, map complete, etc” they should insure that it is true. Optional means just that.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Ok, from what I understand, Jumping Puzzles were to be an optional activity. Fine.
However, in Dredgehaunt, and now in Diessa, I have found Jumping Puzzles that are indeed mandatory for zone completion, and in Diessa even for skill point.
I have a motor skills disability from Rhuematoid Arthritus. I would never ask that jumping puzzles be made easier for me. I would ask that I not be forever gated from world completion by being forced to do this “optional” content to achieve a separate goal.
It is very frustrating to attempt to finish a zone and find one of these mandatory puzzles, knowing that the time spent was a waste of time.
Jumping puzzle should be a choice. They should be unrelated to any other game achievement.
This killed my fun again. When I hit the puzzle in Dredgehaunt, I quit and went back to EQ2 for several weeks. I’m in the mood to do that again after discovering this one.
- addressed issues with Thief class in wvw. Thief removed from game and replaced by Shoplifter.
I am the leader, sole member of my guild. I have no permission to do anything in Hoelbrak. In every other town I am fine, but Hoelbrak won’t let me Q builds, set banners, access guild armorer (armorer upgrade is stuck in build Q at complete, but only in Hoelbrek)
So, I popped the Skritt Thief in Snowden. Kept after it through the centaurs, through every stinking bit of aggro, till it finally stopped just as I killed it.
In the center of the Snow Troll Camp. Ok, so I died. I saw the loot sitting there, spawned, came back, killing more Snow trolls to get there.
And.. the loot is gone. Despawned, whatever. Thanks Devs, for a sorry gank quest.
What is the point to this.
And.. the loot is gone. Despawned, whatever. Thanks Devs, for a sorry gank quest.
What is the point to this.If you are going to have quests designed to kill the solo player, at least put a 5 min timer, or more, on the loot just in case we happen to succeed.

a tonic to become.. “a guild banner”. Underwhelming.
Yes, because by quoting just that you miss out entirely on the rest of the interview. Way to isolate a statement.
I read the entire interview. That was the part I wanted to comment on. Sue me.
Any new daily will be cheesed. It is the nature of some. I’ve gone far off the beaten track to just get away from the people that think it is all about killing whites or letting NPCs die.
I like dailies that reward for playing the game. I don’t like those that encourage people to just find the easiest route or bottom feed in Queensdale, or find particular mobs to finish. I don’t like those that reward for unnatural gameplay.
I don’t like daily rez because it promotes divisive behavior, yelling at people who actually defend NPCs instead of letting them die. I don’t care for daily dodge as it does not reward dodging damage, but instead it requires an evasion proc, also promoting gaming on chosen mobs, rather than normal gameplay.
Who, prior to dailies, stood there stiff and stupid letting NPCs die to achieve a “goal” or engaged a worm just to double tap keys hoping “evaded” flashes on their screen? I dodge damage all the time in normal gameplay, but it rarely procs an evasion.
Were it up to me, dynamic scaling aside, I would make dailies simple, Kill Variety, gathering, Events, total kills, etc, but with one factor added. They would have to be done in zones and on creatures appropriate to your actual level. I would also have events only count at Gold participation, no more tagging one mob and running to the next. Do the event.
Get out to the real world, not two new player zones, not white creatures, not overwhelming new player events.

This story lacks everything that made Gw1 story great. Everything, I mean when Rurik dies everyone who played was like NO NO RURIK!! And then when you fight him as a ghost you just feel so sorry for him. This game I wished every character would just combust on the spot.
Would make for an interesting you think?
Rurik. “Ah, my good and excellent friends”. I really liked him.
I didn’t find a single story episode to be interesting or add anything to my character. I have stopped doing them, they are as personal as a “Boxholder” letter in my mailbox.
I guess finding my presumed dead sister and having her promptly drop off the face of Tyria is a prime example.

a tonic to become.. “a guild banner”. Underwhelming.
It’s not a GW2 problem, it is an “everymmo” problem.. and is what happens when you put “everymmo” dungeons in a game.
How long is this going to be broken?
How do you not get kill credit soloing?
eh, I no longer care.
Geotherma. Worst troll ever.
??
You are, You keep coming in this thread with your claims of everything being all right, for you and “everyone I talk to”
If you aren’t experiencing loot problems, why not count yourself lucky and remove yourself from this discussion. I would say, of the posts in this thread claiming no loot issues, most of them are yours.
Why are you on a crusade to not see this issue fixed?
TBH, now I want “ignore user” fixed as well.
NF style Gladius. Lion Shield.
Funny, people complained about lack of downscaling in EQ2 until they finally introduced a chronomage npc, that allows you to temporarily reset your level and do outleveled content at an appropriate level to get rewards.
The other nice thing about scaling is there is no restrictions on grouping. All traditional mmos I’ve played will turn off exp and loot for the low level player grouped with a player out of their level range, unless the High level mentors down..
