Scrapper Gyro Vs. Spirits

in Ranger

Thz.7569

What does everything think on the scrapper gryos compared to ranger spirits?

Beyond “they’re both bad”, does it really matter?

That’s not entirely true because of the Engi toolbelt mechanic. While some of the gyros alone seem “meh”, a few of them actually bring some cool toolbelt utility to tack on to their basic function.

Engineers can’t afford to bring a meh utility for a half decent toolbelt skill. Our utilities are already in too high demand, since we need them for weapon swap as well as everything else.

I’m not indicating that they’re must haves, but that doesn’t mean they’re bad. Bulwark and and Shredder could see some really good application in certain areas.

We’ll see. The Scrapper PoI actually gave me an inkling of hope that they might have done some interesting things with Druid to make it fun and useful.

I’m gonna preface this by saying it’s entirely just -my- opinion.

The lead behind the Scrapper being the lead behind the Druid doesn’t make me more confident in our elite spec. Things can be very polarizing. An example would be Reaper and Berserker who are also both done by the same person. I think the Reaper is actually effective, while the Berserker is completely kittening lost in purpose and still will be after the BWE2 iterations go in.

The one thing that DOES give me confidence is the fact that it’s the Druid who is going to be shown at Twitch Con.

Ranger concerns

Thz.7569

If the druid still has to use a pet its gonna suffer the same problems as normal ranger.

And that’s the biggest issue of all. No matter how amazing the Druid is, if it uses a pet, it will inherit all of the Ranger’s problems.

If they don’t work some magic and remove the pet reliability with the Druid, I’ll not put myself through dealing with the class any longer. It’s a pain in the kitten enough as is, what happens to our pets in Raids? Our dps will drop tremendously. And it’s not like it’s impressive in the first place.

It would be terrible design if druid staff had 1500 range. Why would they do that? This range is really rare in this game, only 2 professions have this: ranger and engineer. And that’s it, ranger already has 1500 range, why should they give them another weapon like that?

Range of staff will be 1000-1200 but not more, I call it now.

as the thread name says “one can dream” :P

but answering your question – simple – because they need to somehow make a staff that will be different than all other staffs and as we have 1200 range staffs, 600 range staff, two fresh melee staffs there are only two options left – sniper staff (1500 range) and medium range staff (900 range). but then there is a lot of weapons with varied roles at 900 range so the easiest way to make that stuff somewhat diferent from all stuff out there is to make it 1500 range staff

we can already snipe-damage with longbows – why shouldn’t we be able to snipe-support with a staff?

It was meant as a joke :P

However the staff plays, I just want it to apply a lot of aoe -damage-. There’s enough support in this game already, with tons more on the way through the Revenant.

The Druid wont be my cup of tea anyways, I am looking for more damage.

What leads you to believe that a Druid has to be support oriented? What makes you believe an offensive based Druid isn’t feasible?

I still have my fingers crossed that it -will- be damage focused. There’s already a severe abundance of support in this game as is, and now the Herald is bringing even MORE. I’d like to believe that the devs in charge of Druid know this and won’t just hash on more of the same, resulting in something kitten.

Being casual and enjoying the Ranger is perfectly fine. Until you do more than that, you have no right to tell people who have been playing the class for years that they’re wrong.

Edit: I wanted to add a little cause I came off prickish.

I don’t think the ranger is weak nor in a bad spot, but relatively speaking the class has always been unliked. Anet knows the class with its pet system is a mistake and everything we get is -just- enough to keep the ranger mains tugging along. There are glaring issues that have never been fixed and the lack of information of our future elite spec on top of an overwhelming denial of fixes or communication to the base class -does- warrant a lot of worry.

Weapon issues to address

in Ranger

Posted by: Thz.7569

Thz.7569

Oh yeah, sword DPS trumps Axe – on a single target. On 2 targets, the axe will hit your primary target twice, as well as granting a stack of might every time it hits an enemy. It is in situations with more than one target that axe really shines, and can find its place in a power build. Also, greatsword is by no means a power weapon for the ranger – just because it doesn’t have conditions doesn’t make it power. It’s got an evade on AA, a block, an evading dash, and a stun – that’s a defensive weapon first and a power weapon second.

Since you obviously won’t go test anything at all – this would be pointless.
You don’t take into account neither attack animations, the stat coefficients, targets hit nor anything important.

You see only what you want to see. Greatsword is a part of one of the meta DPS builds and is a burst weapon for Zerk PvP builds. There goes your “Let’s tank with Greatsword” argument.
If you don’t want to add anything important into this thread apart from your emotions that make me explain thing you’ll ignore regardless – don’t add anything at all. This thread strayed from it’s point because of this a long time ago and you don’t really seem like being interested in the topic anyways. You just came here to doubt/argue.

I’m sorry you feel that way. I came to make my opinions on the weapon known and try to encourage you to look at the issue from a different perspective, but if you’re simply going to attack me for having a different opinion from yours, then I really don’t think that a healthy discussion can occur here.

The issue, Potato, is that your conversation isn’t a matter of opinion. What Tragic was trying to tell you is fact, meaning it cannot be argued. It’s okay if you love the axe mainhand, but your personal taste isn’t what’s up for discussion.

I’m excited for it but I can’t shake the pessimism in my gut about how poor it likely is. Power builds will not take it over Str, and hybrids don’t currently have a reason to take it over Arms. It doesn’t appear to make up for what you’re losing, number wise.

Take a look at birds with a 300 range melee. Also, see this video to see how a 250 range auto attack affects a pet.

I run double birds in pvp and it’s still horrible. I suppose I see what you mean in that it can help, but it’s far from a fix.

I guess I’m a pessimist when it comes to AI and would like a petless class mechanic at this point. I mean, you know not much thought goes into these things when we still have horrible ranges on some of our pet reliant abilities like SoR. That has nothing to do with the topic at hand, just another gripe I have with it all.

/shrug Will likely love Druid regardless :P

That can be easily changed by increasing the melee attack range to 250-300 on all pet attacks.

Well, considering what Glint and Shield do, I don’t see the use for bunkering. Now, I’m not saying they’re bad, but the bunker role is a poor example here.

Honestly, Revs who want to bunker will likely just stay Revenants by the look of things.

Something like that would be perfect. I just find it odd that the -option- flat out isn’t there.

That shouldn’t be a surprise atm though seeing as this Class doesn’t have much options anyway.

It actually does if you look at all the play-style options it provides. Utilities are perhaps spread a bit too thin between all the legends, but a lot of things -are- there.

I suppose a ranged condi weapon was never planned because weapon swap wasn’t, but it’d be great to see some changes to the mace to allow that option. Even just up to 600 would be awesome.

mortar AA doesn’t do the same thing by any stretch of the imagination. LB AA is virtually instant. and any viable engie builds using mortar wont have any survivability.

I’m not disputing builds, I’m stating a fact. Though, spamming auto on both classes leaves you vulnerable without swapping, difference is engis can swap around much more efficiently.

Which is better? /shrug

I just know that if left free, the aoe pressure of mortar is kitten impressive, and has higher potential than Ranger LB due to also being able to tool belt, not weak to strafe/run-throughs, and of course, aoe.

Oh, we can see it. We just take exception to whining about it, rather than adapting. That is, I believe, part of being a good ranger. Adaptation.

You can call it what ever you want to call it but when you flat out ignore the description the game gives and say get better using other things that is purely a flaw.

Running 2x LB with Quick Draw will be perfectly viable in most game modes if you want to do that.

Until a thief mugs you and you pop you signet just to stay alive. At this point about half your health is gone and 9/10 times there is no solo roamers on top tier servers so you have to pop your heal. At this point it’s full on engage since you have no utilities to flea and if you do have 1 on your bar the thief will just shadow step to you and melt you.

Most game modes :P

The new Bark Skin should help a lot with those backstabs out of nowhere.
I feel like Wilderness Survival (for condi remove & general survivability) and Beastmastery (for the sheer amount of utility it offers) will be very popular in pvp, probably Skirmishing too. Nature Magic seems to be the odd one out, the only reason I see to take it is Protective Ward :/

Protective Ward is the only reason, so you aren’t wrong. As the game is now, even with the added 300 tough from going 6 wilderness (which I do for EB), I still melt against good thieves without much of a fighting chance. Thieves are getting even better with the next update and you can bet your kitten they’ll be rolling over zerk builds even more than they do already. My going NM route is seeing if it gives me the valuable time I need to recover and survive their barrage of engage and disengage. If I’m still around 40% when they’ve used up most of their CDs, I should be able to win. That’s my initial thinking anyway. It could end up being unnecessary and I’ll be able to toy around with BM or Quick Draw, but I doubt it.
