One thing stops me using portals in PvP, i never know if i am still in range of the portal.
A nice solution would be a BIG shimering dome around the portal only the mesmer can see. Exactly as big as the portal range, that way the mesmer knows, once i go on the other side of that dome-wall i can’t use the portal anymore
I can’t speak to how much of a problem this is since I don’t track that kinda stuff, but if it is a prob, I don’t think engaging the community is the best way to fix it. How could we incentivize the top tier players to refrain from doing this kind of thing? Appeal to their better nature? Not watch their streams? Not watch the competitive tourneys? We’re pretty limited as a community in how we could actually address this. Honestly, if it’s important to those top tier players to have multiple accounts rocking ranked, I wouldn’t want to take that from them.
I think a more realistic measure would be to challenge A-Net to tweak the system to account for the behaviors of its inputs (players). Instead of making the rewards (i.e. titles) available to a fixed number of accounts, make them available to a percentage of active participants in the season. The top tier players would potentially have a smaller percent of the share of rewards (if Anet used an appropriate formula), and the “masses” or us non-pro-players could do the same as the pro-players and maintain multiple accounts, which would give players the opportunity to effectively counter the effect (somewhat) of top tier players on alt-accounts. Would take a little work on Anet’s part to figure out an appropriate reward formula, and a fixed number is certainly simpler. It would be pretty hilarious if their formula ended up rewarding less players than previously indicated by the fixed number.
Just a thought. I’d be happy to play core builds in unranked if anet wasn’t shoving gold down my gullet for increasing the ranked player pool. Hope ya’ll get in the top 250 if it’s what you’re shooting for. Best of luck!
What happens if it is a percentage? People just create accounts to raise the total number and therefore artifical create more ‘top’ ranked places
Or just ask their non pvp guild members to become a bronce pvp player for the percentage….
What I’ve noticed really as an issue is that everything in essence is too spammable. Not in the sense that people use it for thief where a chasing ability or certain skill can be used repeatedly until ini runs out. I mean it in the sense that everything in the game, especially really big influential skills, have very small cd’s for the effect they have.
My first big thing on balance is a general increase of cd’s for pretty much everybody to make the game less of a spam fest and encourage more timing in skills so people who can analyze their opponent’s style and adjust to it better will come on top, not the people who spam the most aoe damage and healing.
Compleatly agree, i main mesmer and i don’t even need to care how often i use my ultimo…
…and when i play ele, i always use some random skills, just for healing myself, sometimes i feel like a faceroller because of that – and saddly it works well! (Could also be, because i am just in bronce)
The use IPs to track hackers. Seems like they could do the same, one ladder spot per IP.
In theory you could have 1 guy fill the entire ladder with F2P accounts.
If one guy manages that, he deserves it!

Uhm, winning unranked – easy – just know your rotation and walk around without using skills – works suprisingly well

Otherwise if all matches would be fair, you couldn’t leave your current mmr to the mmr you truly have. Right now the flaw is just the rewarding system, but i am sure Anet is working on a solution, since many gamers out of different skill levels suggested it
So you are saying it is fine that system puts player in obviously lost matches thus wasting players time and it is fine that this player also gets heavily punished for the loss. OKkkkkkkk.

And those matches are there for two reasons, eitehr that you win and show the system you improved – you passed the test!
Or in case you fail, that you learn from better players, that you can see their strategy, that you can adapt and improve after that game
1) MMR changes shown in match history. Evan already mentioned that this should be doable now that skill rating is visible. Perhaps even include things like your team’s average MMR vs. the opposing team’s average MMR (without revealing MMR of individual players in both teams, although it’s easy to add players on the opposing team and see their MMR).

All I know is that thematically I’d like more Jedi mind trick and less simple illusion and skill spam.
We all do – the difficult part is coming up with a usefull skill that would work ingame.
The best solution, we suggest Anet some great skills, and they just pick what they want.
If just one concrete suggestin makes it into the game, all main mesmers would be happy
Anet wants new PvP players, and you need something to lure them in, the last try was a nice glider/backpack skin with a lot of achiefments, this time it is the ascended gear, and they made it even that you don’t need to play classes you don’t know how to play or crossing divisions, resulting in a salty ‘only wins matter’ behaviour

Before it was included in ranked, i was against skyhammer – but i changed my mind, because in ranked people take skyhammer more serious and i start really loving it

Did you ask one of thieves to switch at the start?
Did you tell the thieves that their role is de-capping or picking off low HP enemies?
Some can play one class well and can’t play the others (on a competetive sPvP level) – forcing those to switch isn’t a good idea…
The main problem is class stacking (if that happens because of a relog, yeah – we can’t do anything – but it should be easy avoiding class stacking when A-net assembles the team.. should…)
That’s all good but ranked is supposed to represent skill while the social aspect is only secondary. Voice comm is esentially a huge advantage.
Playing as a team is part of skill. Again, for most skill levels voice comm is not the massive advantage people make it out to be.

Not quite exact. You buy clothing, you have the clothing. What a transmutation charge is is more correct to ANOTHER item of the SAME look. Like buying 2 of one shirt.
But you already own the “looks”. Like owning a mattress and owning several sets of sheets. Why should I pay to change the sheets?
Because you’re confusing the two. Think more as your character is the mattress in this scenario. If your character is the mattress, your armor is the sheet. You have only 1 sheet (set of armor) and it is striped. You want a different style one, something with clouds. You have an option of buying another sheet (a second set of armor) that already looks it, or change your current sheet (main armor set) by drawing on it (TC).
What you used as the mattress is the armor, and the skin as the sheet. Now yes, this form would be very nice. But then you’re suggesting free skin changes at will, which I believe was the outfits being put in. I just carry two sheets when I want to change my mattress. Bag space is more limited, but that’s my choice for more looks.
Now, I wouldn’t mind being able to earn more TC for current price, or less price for current amount. However, since most players are normally overflowing with TC, I don’t see that happening soon.
I don’t care whether you are talking about changing the look on the character or changing the look of an item. In either case I have already purchased or gained through play all of the skins I am using. If I have already gained the skins, I should be able to use them at will. I don’t understand why I am being taxed to use the skins I have already earned.

I saw that backpack on someone while we collected wintersday gifts for donations, so the skin should ve usable everywhere – but it is just a sack of presents and holliday gifts, looks like backpacks you can craft with profesions
It’s a relic of he time when PvP and PvE had separate skins that could not be used in the other game modes. I have the one from PvE at first Wintersday it can be used anywhere now, the PvP reward one not so much.

well about your your rating i was paltinum and now im in gold tier 3, and in evry match up i got a team8 who randomly roaming the map for free kills no kdiding, had a match up where a longbow ranger(base longbow ranger) didnt even fight on point , gold tier 3…..
My last 3 games I literally didnt’ have a single competent teammate. Between typical non-plat thieves not doing ANYTHING they’re supposed to do, druids basically going afk (no idea why 90% of druids in lower MMR do this, guess it’s just something about the personality of players that play ranger), etc.
I can’t blame the matchmaking anymore. It’s just bad luck. Fortunately it’s probably short-run, but it makes me not want to play when I’m absolutely dependent on 4 other people to stand a chance in the game and they fail me a LOT.
As bottom bronce, it suprises me how well the rotation works and communication. Sometimes….
Most of the games make a lot of fun there – i allways assumed higer divisions are extremly well organised because of that – even with randoms

I’m excited to finally have MMR out in the open. We can get some great community feedback like what professions dominate which skill ratings to better handle player perception. We have metrics like this internally, but its super tedious to look up the skill rating of every player that gives balance feedback on the forums.
That means only the gold and above players will decide the new buffs/nerfs?

I like the idea of giving a bonus pip or 2 to the losing team if scores are super close. Just have to be careful about organized farming.
If it gets one pip for 430+ losers and 2 pips for 460+ losers, nobody on the winning team would risk this farming, because the risk that the others win is way higher
If we consider secondary objectives that gain points, the risk for the winners would be even higher that the losers turn it around and they lose everything
(I know myself, if i would be on the losibg side and opponents agreed for a pip farming, i would try to backstab them and try to take the win compleatly)

Sure it happens, but how often is the question?
Some mechanics that I would like to see the next mesmer elite spec receive are revolved around tricking the enemy the way illusions were originally portrayed as. To that effect I would like to see something along the following lines for the shatter
Applies the Hallucination effect to the target, .5 seconds for every illusion shattered. While under the effects of Hallucination, your actions will be hidden from the enemy and they will instead see a perfect clone of you. This perfect illusion will run towards the enemy while appearing to cast any of the skills on your bar that are not on CD. Any AoE skills will be made to appear as if they are centered at the feet of your opponent. The illusion shares your base health and armor, but can deal no damage. Its just there to confuse and distract enemies.
Basically, its like a very targeted stealth against a single enemy. For up to 2 seconds they have no idea what you are doing, but also shouldn’t know that they are fighting an illusion. This can be used to bait dodges and blocks/invuln skills until they figure out they are just a hallucination and not a real skill. 2 sec allows you plenty of time to disengage if you need to, or to set up a burst on the enemy.
For the elite, I want a phantasm based elite. Again, it would summon a perfect illusion of yourself to fight the enemy for 30 sec. This illusion would share all of your stats and all of your skills that you have (only the weapons that you had equipped when casting the elite though, no weapon swapping for this illusion). And it would have an advanced AI, at least on the level of the training dummies in HoTM, using its skills alongside you in a a fight. This illusion can’t be shattered, and only expires when the time runs out or it is killed. So even though its extremely powerful, it does hamstring you in other ways.
Sounds great for pvp – and pve, let the illusion cast as well for double damage

No, often there are classes stacked that aren’t daily – i love when dailys are stacked at enemy and hate it when they are stacked in my team, because mostvof the time they can’t play it as good as their main class

I don’t see what’s wrong with double thief. They are perfectly capable of holding a point now. I’ve been downed as an ele against a thief on point, and before you say I’m mechanically bad you’re welcome to duel me.
Given same skill level (and let’s assume for a second that matchmaking actually works for once) double thief is bad comp and will always lose. The only time double thief wins is when enemy is bad. The problem is not just double thief, take double ele – gl capping anything, double druid – same issue.
That’s debatable. Moreover the scenario of having the same skill level will never occur anyway. I’ve had no problems with double ele or ele+druid so far. Haven’t encountered a double druid yet.

I had 3 placement games with people who quit after the first initial midfight, I also lost gold ranking because of AFKers and people who wanted to end it “quick” just because they fell 50 points behind in score.
Please don’t queue if you don’t intend to give your best throughout the whole game.
It’s a system flaw in motivation design, it’s a binary system, it doesn’t matter if i lose 1:500 or 499:500 – but time makes up for that difference and in a competetive envirorment is every smal edge what could make the difference….
It depends on how different your team’s MMR is compared to the opposing team’s MMR.
EG1: your team MMR is 1700, opposing team is 1600. You win, you gain 30.
EG2: your team MMR is 1700, opposing team is 1680. You win, you gain 10.(numbers may not be exact, or may be reversed)
If your team MMR is lower than the opposing team’s MMR, and you win, you gain more. If you lose, you won’t lose much. If your team’s MMR is larger than the opposing team’s and you lose, you’ll lose more MMR.
How much you gain or lose depends on your team’s MMR, opposing team’s MMR, and whether or not you win or lose.
But then like shouldn’t games I win that are complete blow outs give me 30? Cause I’ve won a match like 500-10, and got 15 mmr for it.

Evan Lesh said on the forum that because of the nature of conquest even a much weaker team could get like 200 points by the end so they decided to cut it.
IMO they should NOT reward getting 100, 200, or 300 points but for getting 400 the losing team could get some extra pips and maybe rating so ppl won’t go afk too soon.
And also a proper way to report afkers should be added.
If 400 points difference gives a reward, the risk will be really high that only the initial fight matters…
This type of decision making is why we can’t have nice things.
Won’t it be nice, if a close match would be different rewarded as a game where one party stomps the other? And i love math for decision making ^^

Nah, i do it without beeing afk, after all suuicide gives 5 points and therefore speeds it up and i still look like i am fighting.
And silver, no idea how far i will make it this season but i stuck all the time as common ruby soilder, let’s see how good/bad i really am
