Who said it worse than its been?

It was rebuilt on a completely new design. So… upgraded

no

you just said it yourself:
completely new design

can be a downgrade too if its worse design than before…

Much worse than the old LA (pre-destruction). Frankly, every iteration of LA they’ve made has been worse than the one they replaced.

Spirit Vale lore recap?

Tom Gore.4035

I expect a throw away adventure, with some neat little references, which don`t go too deep, or in a bad scenario, will go against established lore.

I wouldn’t be so sure. A raid video released by Arena Net suggested there would be huge, mega reveals in the raid story being told. It was also said to bridge the gap between Heart of Thorns and the next big thing. Bobby confirmed the mega reveal part here:

I can’t talk about the “huge awesome mega reveals” other than to say that since the wings are essentially a multi-part story you will learn things along the way.

It could be marketing speak, but it could also be Arena Net making yet another mistake past MMOs have already learned.

A mistake that can easily be fixed by introducing an NPC later who can recap the story to those who don’t want to play this kind of content.

The thing I’d like to see in DR would be the Canthan district. Yes, I know there was an original design for one, but, you never know, could be a launch platform for a potential Cantha release. Perhaps. One day.

The problem is, they replaced the Canthan District first with the big hole, and then with the Crown Pavillion. Slim chance we will ever get a Canthan District in DR. More likely we will get a Canthan expansion before that.

Implementing flying in the original WoW areas took Blizzard two expansions after flying was first introduced, and they modified the whole original world at the same shot (Cataclysm).

So maybe in a few years we will get an expansion which will radically modify the original areas and at the same time allow gliding there.

Simply turning gliding “on” in the old maps just wouldn’t work.

Endless tonics need a deposit slot of some sorts :P That would help me A LOT xD

They should get a wardrobe tab like the minis have. Problem solved.

And not just for the endless ones, but the limited ones too, like finishers work currently, adding a “charge” for every item consumed.

Invisible Mushroom Spore Broken?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

The treasure mushrooms respawn about as fast as any other mobs in HoT, which is really fast, so “not making it to the event” is pretty moot. You will need to have stealth detection anyway to get credit for the event, so you can always start the event again after less than a minute since the last one was killed.

Combined with the fact you can only get the bonus once per mushroom per day, I don’t see much camping happening.

The mushrooms could also have their HP halved or so. There’s nothing difficult taking them down, save perhaps the VB one because the area is filled with veteran mordrem cavaliers with their one-mile aggro radius. It’s just tedious.

Well for the Magus Falls region it sort of is acceptable to have cramped maps, but I do agree with you I sincerely hope the next maps will be more open. Have extensive cave networks underneath and/or cliffs above for the layering, like SilverWastes had (although it was mostly just used for the jumping puzzle).

Timberline Falls and Lornar’s Pass are still my favourite maps because they’re open, yet have very nice verticality built-in.

I would like to have an option to show individual bags per bag, instead of on/off for all bags.

The amount of inventory space is plentiful. The only thing I would change is that bag slot upgrades should be account wide.

Solo option + heroe's

If you want to play solo, there are way better games out there than GW2 for that. Start with Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Skyrim, Dragon Age: Inquisition and their DLCs for a good 100-150 hours of better gameplay, better story and better graphics.

MMOs are meant to be played with others. You strip the multiplayer part out and they are really, really hollow compared to single player RPGs.

It is clear you do not understand introverts.

Ive played GW2 mostly solo since launch. Ive had a lot of fun doing the misc things like jump puzzles, and from time to time ill hop in to the world events. I am not part of a guild, and my friends list is small and contains inactive people.

I love the guild wars lore. I love the guild wars world. Just because it is an online game doesn’t mean it has to all be social group content. I enjoy it because I get that sense of feeling that people are there, doing their own thing, vs a single player game where I know they are all just AI.

They shouldn’t exclude introverts ion all of their game design.

They’re not excluding anyone. There’s plenty of solo content in HoT. Just not all of it is soloable, as it shouldn’t be in an MMO.

Any Way To Get Core Game, Without HoT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tom Gore.4035

If that’s not the case, I also would recommend getting HoT through a third party. They go for as low as ~30 €.

I would not recommend that, at least not if they are not on the official reseller list
else you mostly will get banned because the key was bought with stolen credit cards.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/retailers

The official reseller list is just a list of “official reseller”. Everyone and their mother can still set up shop and buy the game for resale from a distributor, then scan the codes from the box and sell them online. Every bit as legit.

Of course some shadier online shops may be selling stolen keys, but that’s another story.

Have you seen after release in the Help Forums how many people were banned
because the bought their keys from sites like MMOGA ?

If something is too cheap there mostly is a reason, or would you buy HoT for 40
just to resell it for 30 ?

Here’s one official retailer selling at about 33 EUR:

http://www.surtep.cz/guild-wars-2-heart-of-thorns-pc-2428370/

I bet he’s not losing money on that either. Games are priced differently in different markets.

Contested Waypoints

Tom Gore.4035

Yep, think what you did wrong: hit by sniper cross fire whilst knocked down by a charging beastie into a red zone of death. Got a build tweak for that one?

Learn to dodge?

How about one shot instant downed mechanic? Got a tweak for that?

Learn to dodge?

Or just actually being involved in the fighting rather than standing spamming 1 from the back or running a tanky auro healing condi removing heavy armor toon?

These guys don’t get downed often, so doesn’t really apply to this thread. I don’t have a solution for braindead people though, except to stop playing open world content in MMOs. Sad, I know.

I ran through an old area the other day where it put poison on me continuously which couldn’t be removed, and just running through it I was down to under 50% hp, which reminded me why I felt most of those things were designed around heavy armor auto condi removal auto healing warriors and guardians….

New areas are awful for contested WP’s, especially if the map is quiet, and missing that glide means running across the whole map again through piles of mobs that slow you, knock you down or swarm you whilst you try and check the map to see where you are heading to to attempt that glide or jump or whatever again.

Missing a glide only results in death if you mess up big time with the landing, so it’s more like two misses in a row. You don’t think you should get penalized for that? Also, the Pocket Raptors and Rolling Devils are pretty much the first mobs in the whole game you cannot just run through and ignore. Is that a bad thing? Every single class in the game can either bypass them with fast movement skills or stealth, or alternatively decimate them quickly with AoE.

Everything else can still be ran through and ignored, with a dodge or two for their knockdowns and pulls.

Sorry but all this whine about waypoints sounds like a L2P issue and nothing else.

Not every class has infinite dodges, nor is everyone able to play events on full graphics because the game crashes when you do. many times there is nowhere to dodge to, the field is full of pretty aoe death fields. Or you have been knocked down in to a field of death and can’t move whilst your HP bar disappears.

It’s not a L2P issue. If you are knocked down you can’t dodge. L2P? Wait, I should have dodged the charging guy that came from behind whilst my dodge was on cooldown just after I dodged the first sniper?

Dodge an instant death mechanic that you can’t see and don’t know when it hits, whilst endurance is on cooldown? L2P?

Missing a glide means you have to WP back and start the route over again in many cases- doesn’t matter if you die from landing or not. perhaps I didn’t make that sufficiently clear. One miss, long run. Clear now?

Many of the mobs you have to get through have cripple, pull back or immobilise whilst many skills have cooldowns. It is a lot easier to move around the map on certain classes than others. It’s also a lot easier if you know exactly where you are going so you don’t have to try and find a safe spot to check the map. It also gets tedious having to kill your way through the same mobs over and over again to try and reach that HP.

I’ve yet to find out how to dodge the big mushroom guy’s pull back/down.

The maps are a lot less fun if they are quiet as then you have full mob spawns rather than paths people have already cleared or pulled out of position. Try and find an empty map, roll a new toon so it’s all blacked out, try and forget you know where to go, then try and work out where that HP point is and how you get to it whilst moving around the map and finding places to stop (remember you don’t know the map at this stage, no cheating!).

At one stage on VB the only WPs uncontested were the entrance one and the one next to the entrance to AB (and I didn’t have that part of the map yet).

AB and TD can be even worse with the large numbers of veteran mobs you don’t want to waste time fighting to get back to where you needed to be.

You don’t need infinite dodges unless you try to mow through a pack of pocket raptors (where the right choice of action is to kill them with cleave/AoE).

Ever heard of stunbreakers? Yeah, I know, novel concept for pure PvE players, but slotting them is not such a bad idea in HoT.

All one shot attacks have an animation you can watch for and save your dodge/invulnerabilities for. Granted the effect fireworks can sometimes obscure them, but that’s not really a difficulty issue, it’s a graphics issue and I believe Anet is working on it.

I’ve now played up and until to DS with warrior, thief, engineer, ranger and guardian (and further with some of them). None of them have had any trouble getting through the zones solo when set up to do so. All of them are full glass cannon builds, although the defense traitline on the warrior is just too good to pass.

Have I died a lot? Yes I have. Have I died because I didn’t have any tools to avoid the death (on the second or third try with a new mob/jump). No. Every time I’ve died it was either because I was still learning a new mob’s mechanics or exploring a new place, or was not paying attention. Not a single time did I think “boy this is too difficult, I can’t do this, too unfair”.

So as blunt as it might sound like, yes it is a L2P issue. End of story.

After enjoying Guild Missions in the last few weeks.

So optimistic^^ But yeah, the guild missions have been… Interesting. A whole new level of challenging content when trying to debug the missions to get rewards.

And a challenge to patience waiting for Rush to finish before you’ll get your rewards. Nothing like sitting on your kitten for 15+ minutes.

Wouldn’t work, with multiple guilds allowed like in GW2.

If you would make it so you’d have to pay tax for every guild you belong to, it would effectively trash the entire multi-guild system.

If on the other hand you’d only pay tax for the guild you’re representing everyone would join a “tax evasion” guild (perhaps made by themselves) and represent that everytime they thought they’re not feeling like paying the tax.

It’s just an ascended weapon with a different skin. You don’t really need it. If you really want it, get practicing. Sanctum Scramble is one of those Adventures you can even get gold with some practice. Bark Breaker Achievement Bug

Tom Gore.4035

I’ve seen the “husk” in question. At the very end of the pale reaver series of events, if you look across the bridge at the vine, on your right across the bridge is a tower of some kind. The champ in question spawns high on that tower, and his position is such that most (possibly all) attacks from ground level can’t reach him. I went there when there was practically nothing there to attack me and couldn’t get up there by jumping, so on to Plan B.

I used gliding to get down there from the canopy with a mesmer and ported up someone (a ranger maybe?). Between the two of us we broke his bar. He was still alive and had absolutely no bar left. I did NOT get the achievement. Apparently this is the wrong guy.

So sorrry . . . I had high hopes for this one.

I also glided down from the Patriarch perch to this ledge with my warrior. Was easily able to break his bar alone, but no achievement. I also managed to do enough damage to get kill contribution when the Pale Reavers shot him down. Didn’t drop anything.

The channeled HPs are not the problem. You can use a stealth char if you can’t clear the mobs around.

It’s the champion mob HPs that are tough to solo, mostly due to the time limit. And some of them have pretty nasty local spawns too, like the frog HP in Tangled Depths (but we still Duod that one with 2 engineers easily – duo engineer is OP as hell).

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Tom Gore.4035

Real progression as in “becoming more powerful”? What purpose would that serve, if the monsters were made tougher too? The net result would be that you would be just as “strong” or “weak” as you were before, just bigger numbers floating around.

That’s the problem with traditional gear treadmill MMOs. They give you a perception of becoming stronger, but it’s really all an illusion. That’s why they’re called treadmills. This is what Anet wanted to avoid, and I think they’ve done a nice job. There’s still a sense of progression without having to invalidate everything we’ve achieved so far.

Tom Gore.4035

I guess Anet listened to the feedback and found that the majority of their playerbase wanted more challenge?

Not likely, but they at least found some that did and listened to them, or just wanted to do it for their own reasons, in any case there has been an equally loud backlash, so now they have to evaluate whether they believe further course correction is necessary. Again, it’s my personal stance that they should honor the players who made the game a success over the past three years, rather than those who wanted something entirely different from the game.

Just by reading this thread I can see that more people are defending the new more difficult content than those who complain about it. Add in the fact that usually those who like the content are playing and not complaining on the forums, and I’m pretty sure it was the majority that wished for more challenge. And they were players of the “old content” aswell, just like you, and just like you they contributed to the success of the game.

I find it very hard to believe Anet would have deliberately done changes to their game against the majority of their players’ wishes. That would be just plain bad business.
