I thought they were just getting rid of post 80 skill points, either way the full heal/knockback on levelup should have been removed from wvw long ago.

You won’t get XP anymore when you’re level 80. But of course we don’t know if reaching a mastery point will have the same full heal/launch effect…

Corpse colision with friendly players would make combat in wvw much more complex. You wouldn’t be able to stack everyone in the same place for hammer train. In pve it would make content harder.

It’ll never come to PvE because that would open up countless griefing opportunities.

That said, it’ll probably never come to WvW either because of technical reasons, but there it would be awesome.

Griefing opportunities? Like making a wall of players to block a bridge or something like that? There options to solve that. Like instead of 100% colision just a chill/slow effect or pushing against the player making it to move a little…..

Was thinking more like blocking players from escaping monsters and letting them die. And the pushing option wouldn’t work if the other party was actively pushing back. Besides, allowing pushing would be even more prone to griefing. Hey let’s push that fellow player off the cliff

One option would obviously be still allowing dodge rolling through players.

Will Bolts of Damask ever drop in price?

Now, is this the case with silk? who knows, but we cant find out, because we cant adjust the supply.

We cant find out by adjusting supply but its not neccessary because Anet can.
They have all the metrics, of how much silk scraps and weaving threads get created per day, how much gets destroyed and how much get bought and sold at which price point.

So in the case that falling silk prices and rising silk supply dont result in added demand for damask, there is not need to further devalue it.

according to most capitalist theory, and they could be wrong, but this is the common belief,
One entity is generally considered to be inferior to the market itself at finding the right price points for items.
Complaints are generally that such an entity would be less responsive, more rigid, and have effected by concerns outside of the price of the specific good itself.

im sure economists have debated this many times, i dont think there is a 100% right answer for all situations, but in this situation i see it like this.
for a long time, anets numbers had us oversupplying silk to the point it became valueless
as a solution to that problem, Ascendeds item requirements, created a bunch of new problems, like proffesion progression inequality, an apparently high feeling of grind, increased farming activity etc.

i feel like the single entity is not currently as effecient at finding these sweet spots as many claim a more free market to be.

i generally find that items that have targetable means of supply tend to have their price more closely aligned with a value that people feel comfortable buying, supplying and selling them

i dont think we are there for silk, or leather.

But we have been oversupplying silk for months now and just because silk is not at your sweet spot, doesnt mean its not at a sweet spot for everybody else.

The oversupplying is already over. Supply is going down and price is going up ever since Wintersday is over. What is your solution now? Introduce another festival to bring another temporary supply for silk? Or MAYBE it’s time to introduce a permanent solution? Eh?

I would opt for another temporary or timegated solution, like an item that consumes dragonite and gives out silk.

The latter I would be all over about, no doubt.

But it would again be just a temporary solution. After the initial rush of extra dragonite turned into extra silk would be gone, the problem would come back.

Are you sure you’re not opposed to getting a steady, controllable supply of silk just because the current fluctuating oversupply/undersupply makes it easier for you to make money on the TP?

Wanze, what do you have to say about the recent trend of supply dropping quickly and price going back up again? We know it’s because the extra supply from Wintersday isn’t there anymore, but does this mean to keep the silk price at human levels Anet needs to introduce more temporary supply boosts?

Why not fix it once and for all by doing what phys is suggesting and moving (most) supply from non-intended to intended?

Introduce collision detection for friendlies AND enemies (basically a “forced melee assist”) and you would see WvW transform into a battlefield instead of two ultra-concentrated globs running though each other.

I know, Anet servers would melt if they did that, as they cannot even handle three-way fights that happen currently.

Still, one can dream. It would open the world to massive opportunities and new tactics, not to mention the fights would look much more realistic and feel even more chaotic than today.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The only reason Stealth is not fixed is because it prevents capping and thus thieves are not OP in Conquest.

In WvW, it’s a ridiculously no-risk, high-reward mechanic that has little counterplay save from using stealth traps. The very notion that Anet had to introduce a trap in WvW to combat a single character mechanic tells me it’s broken.

If I would fix stealth, I would prevent stacking the duration and preventing new applications of stealth being applied while already in stealth. This would fix most problems stealth brings in WvW while still keeping it a viable combat mechanic.

Shadow refuge would have to be redone if this change was made, obviously.

Whatever the drop rate now, there have been loads of better gold farming methods introduced into the game after this thread was created. 2-3 gold per half an hour is just not “good” anymore.

Keep in mind back then the same materials costed only 1/3 of it’s current price

That’s why I upped the OP’s result by 50-100%. Still not worth it.

No, not now. However this was within the first year and back then they didn’t have the good farming spots like now. iirc, dungeons didn’t give as much gold as they now do and there weren’t champ farms, because no champ bags, and certainly no Silverwastes. So it was a good farm for that period of time, which is why so many farmed there.

… which is what I said in my first post.

Possible rewards I would put there if I were a dev:

  • Liquid World XP
  • Superior/Guild siege blueprints
  • WvW trap blueprints
  • More badges
  • Supply?
  • Upgrade tokens (or just give a choice of purchasing upgrades with badges)
  • Limited PvP finishers (common drop)
  • Unlimited PvP finishers (rare drop)
  • Mistforged hero weapon tokens

Those from the top of my head.

Lesser vision crystals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

There is no such thing as “enough Laurels” as long as you can turn each Laurel into ~1 gold. That’s ~20 gold right there, which you can use to buy the contents of the other selections and still have money left over (unless of course you’d be lucky to get 2 damask, which probably happens about 1 time out of every 8 or so).

Sorry to break your illusion of meaningful choice, but not selecting the laurel bag from the Chest of Loyalty is just throwing gold out of the window.

You should read my other posts, you’ll get a better idea of what I’m about. I don’t care if it’s an “illusion of meaningful choice”. The game’s full of such illusions, from what you want to choose when you create your character to what order you choose, to what dyes you want to use.

I don’t care about Gold – there is nothing I want bad enough which is out of reach. I’m not interested in Legendaries, so Precursors are off the slate. The permanent contracts? The only one of potential value to me is the permanent bank contract so I can stick it in my bag and potentially just carry less around.

By extension, things which earn me Gold aren’t as interesting because they earn me Gold as they are for what I can do with them. Crafting components are interesting because I can make items with them, hang onto them until I need them. Karma lets me drop Temple Armor at a whim on a fresh Level 80, but that’s about it. Dungeons only interest me when I run them within the guild and with less intent to speed-clear it than to just make it to the end alive.

Further by extension, I do things because I want to do them. Which includes even doing more than logging in, saying hello and adjusting a few items around my character inventories. I don’t want to hit a world boss? Skip it. Don’t feel like dealing with Claw of Jormag? I’ll just find something else to do – the game’s full of that.

About the only thing I fully regret is not getting in on a good Triple Trouble run when it was a hot thing to do. Never got to experience that.

You should probably check the definition of “lucrative”. It’s not really subjective when (almost) all the choices can be measured with a common currency, like gold.

The fact that you have almost everything in the game does not mean that the bag of laurels is still the most lucrative choice from the chest of loyalty. Not the most “interesting” or “exciting” perhaps, but certainly the most lucrative.

Will Bolts of Damask ever drop in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tom Gore.4035

a percieved problem is a real problem.

Which is easily fixed by changing the perception.

Then convince me that those needing to ore can focus-farm it with 100% reliability while those needing cloth cannot is unfair is a good thing. Convince me that inequity on both ends of the supply and demand equation for cloth compared to ore is a good thing.

The real problem was that silk was too expensive, the perceived problem is that it can only be fixed by introducing a direct farm, which is untrue.

Anet added additional indirect sources of silk during season 2 which lowered the silk value, so the problem is fixed already.

If they add direct silk nodes, silk price will fall to such a value that people wont feel that it is worth their time anymore to directly harvest it for an hour because you only get 3g worth of silk. So they rather earn 5 gold with something else in that hour and then buy the scraps.

you realized, that what you are describing, is essentially according to a lot of current economics, the best way to find a good price point the suppliers, and the buyers feel comfortable with?

essentially, when the price of silk drops to the point its no longer worth gathering, then people stop gathering it, the supply falls, an the price goes up, then people gather it again, until people find the point that all parties agree is the real value of the item. If you dont like the price you are free to get it yourself.

the difference between that and this, is that that since people cannot supply it directly, the supply does not adapt to the demand, and the price does not represent a value that people actually feel comfortable with, based on their daily needs.

The actual price on the tp IS the price that suppliers and consumers are comfortable with. The facts that silk scraps basically lost value all through Season 2 and the supply on the tp in that time rose by 400% a clear indications to me that supply exceeds demand for a long time now.

So why is there a need for people to directly farm silk now? It makes absolutely no sense.

Phys suggested that by making cloth directly farmable, the random drops of cloth could be reduced at the same time.

I’m in the same boat. I think that there should be more ways to harvest crafting materials intently, and less random drops that people just TP off because they don’t need them.

You’re looking at the situation at a global level, whereas we’re trying to look at it at an individual level. Having more ways to directly affect what you get from your gameplay means more fun. At least I would wager that’s the case for the majority of players.

Get the Chest of Loyalty from the end of the Daily Login, pick Ascended Materials . . . it had a Lesser Vision Crystal in there the two times I opened it.

That is depressing…

Not really, it gives more than one item. The first time it was Damask, the second it was Elonian Leather.

The only way choosing the Ascended Mats is more lucrative than the bag of 20 laurels is if you really have trouble getting T7 mats (which you shouldn’t after SW was launched) or if you feel lucky enough to score two bolts of damask every time.

It’s not about lucrative for me. It’s about “I have enough Laurels, and the other stuff doesn’t interest me right now”.

with Warrior being one of the best roamers and in sPvP bruiser Hambow builds are one of the most overpowered things in the game right now.

What?

The best roamers in WvW;

1.Thief
2.Engineer
3.Mesmer
4.Elementalist
5.Ranger
6.Warrior
7.Guardian
8.Necro

Mesmer, Ranger and Elementalist are very debatable, and perhaps guardian should be way higher too, but they lack mobility which is an important tool. But warrior is so outclassed in fighting by the first 5 classes that being mobile is just not enough to call it ‘one of the best’, IMO. Especially when you are talking 1vX. Even in 1v1, however, most classes outright laugh at warrior roaming builds.
Warrior is still regarded as being good at roaming because it is so easy to be decent in roaming with it. High base survivability and mobility allow for a noob-friendly playstyle. This playstyle is soon countered pretty harshly by anything skilled on another class, though.

So you can run away from most, congrats.

And hambow OP? This is new to me, I thought Shoutbow was the new meta. Don’t play enough PvP right now to give any sort of opinion on this though.

Well it depends on what you classify as “roaming”. If you want to go camp capping and dolly slapping (which is what I consider roaming), warrior mobility really shines and it can clear camps really fast. If you want to go dueling/1vXing for just the fun of killing enemy players, I agree the warrior probably isn’t a very solid choice.
