GW2 is not really balanced around being able to permacontrol mobs. That’s why they added the defiance buff to champions and bosses. You’ll have to mitigate the damage in other ways.

Isn’t this a specious argument?

I would’ve thought that they balance with conquest as a game mode in mind. Yes, conquest is 5v5 but they also have to consider how things play out in XvX situations. Some things were nerfed because they would 1v1 too hard, and others were nerfed because they could 1v2 too hard. 2v2s and 3v3s happen in conquest all the time, so to say that they don’t consider those is probably (definitely) wrong.

You’ve got a point.

So let me then say that the game is not balanced around 2v2 or 3v3 deathmatch.

And again I’m not saying it wouldn’t work. Just have some doubts about it. I’ve played enough of WoW arena to know how difficult it is to balance classes the smaller the bracket gets.

And lets be honest here, the GvG crowd is 1% of the WvW community, and that’s being generous. The WvW community is 5% of the game’s total. They’re a tiny, excessively noisy sub-culture in Anet’s game which DOES have 2 quite similar pvp experiences they already sanction…

They’ve already gotten Obsidian Sanctum. I mean kitten ..

This “trend” need to stop. I am sure its kitten ed demoralizing for ANET staff to have their hard earned work bloody shot down before its even available.

Hell its even making me a little demoralized for the state of humanity and this games community…

I prefer to keep my NPC stuff in PvE.

Forcing higher population servers to have a lower queue to suite the weakest link server is by far the worst idea. It’s the fastest way to destroy WvW

rewarding for defending has always been a good suggestion. Attacking still needs to be more rewarding. Otherwise, why would anyone attack?

To win the matchup? You know, like why you should play WvW in the first place?

Yes they need to improve/give a reason to defend but they after make it rewarding to do so. If they make it just take longer, then they just effectively reduce the rewards.

Defending can be potently very, very rewarding as well as awesome fun.

During a tournament once I took part in defending our home keep through the night, both the other servers hated our server so were pretty much only attacking us. Around a 100 of server a (not sawing names to avoid thread degeneration) attacked, once we beat them, a 100 of server b attacked and so on through the night.

It was a desperate battle of defense on our part, we held out for 5-6 hours before they finally took the keep which by that time literally had no walls, you could walk through the keep! Reward wise for the defenders it was pretty awesome, you could tag for loot 20-50 enemies per incoming attack wave and we had to set up a rotation so 5 players could empty there bags at a time, so we always had enough defenders.

I have played GW2 since day 1 and have been lucky enough to be involved in a few of those kind of epic battles. But they are ultra rare nowadays. Sadly…

80 is the pop cap per server per map. Just saying…

That is much more an inherent issue with PvP introduction than the dailies.

On that I do agree wholeheartedly. A mandatory (per account) tutorial with bots would be a step into the right direction. All the MOBAs have one.

So you say, using Virtue of Courage (gives Aegis) to block downed ‘2’ is hacking now?

I would imagine that most people nowadays are on windows 7/8/8.1. All of these people get a free upgrade the first year Windows 10 is out.

I suppose it could be a matter of willpower as the Pale Tree said, but that also feels like a cop-out way to explain how some sylvari are just fine while others aren’t…I mean, the other sylvari on the ship were also going to fight Mordremoth, risking their lives as well. That takes willpower, no? I can see Ceara and Aerin getting taken over easily, but not people willing to go fight against the dragon directly.

Willpower is a strange thing. Some people turn into worshipping/cursing invisible fathers in the sky when they face a great moral dilemma or a personal tragedy. Some people just rough through it and face it with more logical conclusions.

I’d say the Sylvari that “turned” just broke under the stress. It’s one thing to board an airship and go to fight the dragon, and another to be actually attacked by one and seeing your whole fleet being decimated.

Don’t forget that in the last LS episode the player used Divine Fire, which draws power from the human Gods. I would assume it’s a small hint that the humans will still have their time in the spotlight, and that time might be the biggest blast of history changing stuff in the whole game’s storyline.

Three servers were meant to be a balancing factor, so that the 2 weaker teams would team up against the strongest team. Alas, as you mentioned, that doesn’t work as the two weaker teams still end up preying against each other because they cannot beat the stronger one.

Which is sad, because in many cases the two weaker servers could seriously give the stronger server a run for their money if they decided to call a truce and concentrate on a common enemy.

Of course, this would still not fix a problem with having 2 strong servers and 1 weak one.

Being from Piken I can tell you that we’re much higher on the ranking than our WvW population would suggest. We can put up a sizeable and well-led force on prime time, but outside of that we are lucky to have one commander across all four maps. It’s very evident this week when we’re facing two servers with a very high WvW population.

I’m not sure buffing/bringing more NPCs would be the correct solution to population imbalances.

I’m also not sure if making people queue more would help either. Maybe if the transfers would be significantly cheaper (but still time gated), but otherwise not.

Incidentally, EotM does solve most of the population problems and ensures all sides have more or less the same population. Unfortunately the map has a lot of other issues, mostly in the reward scheme, and it also lacks any means and/or reasons to make it properly competitive.

In any case, I’m pretty sure most of the biggest population problems will disappear for a while when HoT launches, due to the inevitable surge of new and returning players. Time will tell how long it will last, though.

My argument is that they could have did everything they did in the activity rotation update (namely move the NPC to where he is now, in Lion’s Arch) but keep all the activities open 7 days a week where the Activity Daily would be for a specific activity. So Keg Brawl will have increased population on Sunday instead of only available on Sunday. You know, the exact same way they’ve been incentivizing content since Guild Wars 1

So all activities available every day, but activity-specific dailies (and preferably one every day)? Not bad. I like this suggestion. It would be like the best of both worlds, really.

I don’t think it would change anything. I still think like six guys would love Keg Brawl and it won’t make a bit of difference to anyone else. I’m obviously exaagerating, but it’s really a non-issue.

This thread should be closed, anyway, because this is all off topic. The OP got the answer he was looking for.

It might not change anything, except that we would not see these threads complaining that activity X is not available on time Y. After all, it would be in line with the “play how you want” mantra.

As long as the raid content can plausibly be completed without agony resistance (or ascended gear in any form) and doesn’t reward anything more powerful than ascended I’m completely fine with them adding it.

Will I play it? Probably not, because of time and commitment constraints. Would I play it if not for the constraints? Probably yes.

The reason I keep hearing people say this requirement even exists is to prevent players from going naked. Which is stupid anyway.

So you would gladly run into battle without any clothes on in real life? Right.

I don’t think the skimpy outfits half the playerbase runs around in is much better than just going naked in terms of protection.

The issue is that they spent money on breaking it further. At this point I just want it playable year round. I’ve lost all illusions that any substantial fix to Keg Brawl is ever going to happen but nowhere could I foreseen they would outright remove it. If no one’s playing it, that means I can find the ones who do enjoy it, and schedule events and we can get our own arena going. Right now it’s in no better shape than it was prior to the update.

Did you try playing Keg Brawl before it was put into the rotation? I can tell you it was a graveyard. You could play whole rounds alone with no one else appearing to play. Now you’ll at least usually get some other players there, too. Maybe even full teams if you play on prime time.

I think Anet also has a loophole in their contract that allows them to buy the company out of NCsoft if they want to, and they own the rights to all the IPs related to GW2.

Activities activity is down after the latest daily achi update. Before that, “Daily Activity Participation” was there several times a week. Now we’re lucky if it’s up even once per week.

It’s not a bug. No player skill in the game prevents condition damage. You’ll have to cleanse them or wear them off. It’s a simple rule so no need to bloat all tooltips with that information.

Warrior berserker stance prevents condition damage. Not sure if that’s the only one.

No it doesn’t. It only reduces condition duration by 100%. If the opponent is running +Condition Duration buffs you are still affected.

There is no Condition Duration buff in PvP, you’re talking about WvW.
Berserker Stance actually makes you immune to new conditions in PvP

Is that a fact? I mean there are still sigils and runes that increase condition duration. Have you tested running those and trying to apply condis to warrior in Berserker stance?

Could be that it works differently in sPvP than WvW, of course.

Berserker Stance covers the whole trait/sigil/rune buffs, too (in PvP)
Sigils + Rune + Trait + original skill duration = 100% (follow Anet mechanics)

Example:

I do have tried this when running Condition Ranger with shortbow (Bleed stacks on auto attack) with rune of the krait (increase bleed duration by 45%!!!) and Sigil of Agony (increases bleed duration by another 20%!!!) and Warrior gets no bleed stacks.

I’m pretty sure even in WvW with 40% food, no conditions can be applied, I think.

If it does, then WvW is pretty broken and kittened up

Now I know we’re not all math majors and numbers are hard, but you should think really hard about what “reduce incoming condition duration by 100%” means. And if you’re still having trouble with that, go back to grade school and review percentages.

I know what you mean. What I don’t know (as I haven’t tested) is how GW2 calculates condition durations.

Is the calculation like DurationX * (DurationIncrease1+DurationIncrease2-DurationDecrease2).

Or like DurationX * (DurationIncrease1+DurationIncrease2) * DurationDecrease2.

I would actually really like to know, because it would make a BIG difference for my Warrior’s WvW build, which has a -93% duration decrease for Chilled, Cripples and Immobilize.

Let’s imagine a necro is running +40% condi duration food and +10% condi duration runes, and casts a 5 second chill, is the end result

a) 5 * (100% + 40% + 10% – 93%) = 5 * 57% = 2,85 seconds

or

b) 5 * (100% + 40% + 10%) * (100% – 93%) = 5 * 150% * 7% = 0,525 seconds.

As you can see there is a HUGE difference.

I think Anet are missing a trick by not having hang gliding in WvW.

They could have just added it to the new WvW map only.

It would have added a whole new level of strategy/tactics to WvW, with offensive/defensive airforces needed.

Also, we could have posted youtube/twitch videos showing groups of players flying in formation to take keeps etc with obviously wings of the valkirye music playing. Or with music from queen, recreating the scene from Flash Gordon the movie, where the hawkmen are gathered to descend on Ming the Merciless palace.

Really, Anet have some imagination…

Doing something like that would have hordes of players returning to WvW.

I’m much happier that they chose to make moving around the battlefield in the new WvW map harder, rather than easier like it would be with gliders.

What would be the purpose of having walls at all if everyone could just bypass them completely by flying over them?

I’m sure the new BL map will have enough interesting mechanics without flying.

And how would a “defensive air force” even work? Do you think Anet will build yet another form of combat (aerial combat) when they can’t even balance Underwater Combat?

So let me get this straight, it’s ok if the content is gated behind masteries cause that’s how mmos work. It’s totally ok to not be able to fight a mob until you’ve grinded the mastery for it, cause well gating is what mmos do. But it’s not ok to add 20 lvls to the game cause that would be gating. Have I got this right?

Good thing we got the masteries and we won’t have to grind for gear. Cause that would invalidate our gear right? ‘xcept the bit were our gear doesn’t count for kittens if we don’t have the masteries. Please god, make it so at the very least masteries won’t give you abilities cause if they do, we’ll all be running around with our utility skills mastery filled. We’ll all be the same class. “The mastery user”

I like this alternative advancement system already!

Well we still don’t know how high the gate is and if you can “bypass” it by just being good/resilient enough.

And they said that once you’ve started masteries your nameplate will show your mastery score, sounds like WoW gear score to me.

That bit definitely caught my eye. I really don’t see how displaying a player’s mastery score is going to bring anything but trouble.

Nah, that will never happen. Gw2 has the best MMO community in the world.

Since HoT masteries won’t play any role in old content that won’t be an issue.

They do. It’s already been revealed there will at least be a Fractal Mastery line. There might be more.

Masteries you get in HoT won’t affect non-HoT content. I guess the Fractal Mastery will be earned in Fractals (giving higher Agony Resistance maybe? To go beyond level 50?)

I guess you’re mixing Heart of Thorns (the expansion) with Heart of Maguuma (the region). Fractal Mastery by what was explained, can be earned anywhere outside Heart of Maguuma region (or rather, the “old world”).

Thank you for your opinion, good thing you know that. But it is still seems a bit strange for me that skill which “makes you invulnerable” does not actually make you invulnerable. That’s why I would like to see a fixed tooltip, sir.

There are also plenty of effects in the game that will kill you even if you’re “invulnerable”. For example Legendary Defenders in WvW will one shot you through invulnerability, falling damage will still kill you, as will certain Dungeon mechanics.

Should those be included in the tooptips, too?

Also, somehow I think the WvW development team (if there are any) are too focused in thinking that WvW need better maps to be better but in reality, WvW simply lack features that attract players to play or fix the imbalance of WvW.

Just take a look at PvP, features change to the reward and queue system dramatically changed the population of PvP.

Yeah. PvP is now full of PvErs wanting to finish their daily quickly so they can go back to PvE, resulting in people whining “please let me win this round, I really need my daily” in chat.

That’s what we need in WvW, right? PvE rewards that are lucrative enough so that PvErs start massing there and crying you should help them to get the rewards so they could leave as quickly as possible?

Open your eyes and look at EotM! That is exactly the thing that happens when you put enough rewards into WvW to make it lucrative for PvErs. Do you really want that to happen to WvW, too? Because it will, if you keep wanting for WvW reward tracks with PvE rewards inside.

It would be a bit funny to experience a zerg on gliders swooping down on an enemy zerg and on TS someone screaming “DEATH FROM ABOVE!!!”

Like that scene in Godzilla 2014 when they parachuted into Las Vegas. Adding a 3rd dimension to WvW would definitely liven things up, but would require proper depth in the map design, not to mention anti “aircraft” mechanics. Siege tracking mechanics would be a nightmare. I could see barrage rangers being handy for defending towers

It would make attacking certain points in the existing borderlands impossible, though, as the BL owners could just fly out of the Citadel and land inside the towers nearby or dive bomb into the camps with high enough gliding.

I’d imagine blobs would completely avoid fighting near cliffs for fear of being hit by “paratroopers”. Also, I could also imagine an aerial assault by players with high enough Gliding from Garrison to Bay or aerial reconnaissance from Stonemist. Stonemist would take on a new significance as it’s the highest point in EBG and from there you could launch paradrops into any of the nearby towers. If you could take and hold SMC, you’d basically own EBG. Imagine the fights!….and the frame drops XD

The scenarios you just presented would make me actually WANT to play WvW. I would hop in just to join a paratrooper group and rain hell with my Engi’s grenades and things like that.

I bet you’d also love to see enemies glide from SM top floor to your home keep and capture it before the crosses would even pop?

And they said that once you’ve started masteries your nameplate will show your mastery score, sounds like WoW gear score to me.

That bit definitely caught my eye. I really don’t see how displaying a player’s mastery score is going to bring anything but trouble.

“Arah P2 250MP and 15k AP ONLY or don’t join”.

Nah, that will never happen. Gw2 has the best MMO community in the world.

Since HoT masteries won’t play any role in old content that won’t be an issue.

They do. It’s already been revealed there will at least be a Fractal Mastery line. There might be more.

Learn how to dodge. The boss can be easily meleed during the burn phase. Just stand right at the edge of the head a whack the crap out of it. Rock dodger is not easy. It requires skill and some luck. It took me about 30 attempts to complete by my self.

Yeah my advice about standing far away was meant exactly to prevent having to try Rock Dodger 30 times

It’s not a bug. No player skill in the game prevents condition damage. You’ll have to cleanse them or wear them off. It’s a simple rule so no need to bloat all tooltips with that information.
