With thief a p/p + staff build worked well for me. You switch to the staff to escape and be agile, and use the pistols to gun down anything. Crit/X/X for traits. Fill in the gaps.

If you want to use the staff, you’ll need to spec Daredevil.

Zhaitan returning at this point when Anet still has 4 living Elder Dragons to use against us would be just plain bad writing and bad business. I seriously doubt Zhaitan is coming back.

Maybe, IF GW2 lives long enough that we actually kill all six Elder Dragons, Zhaitan might return as the ultimate Elder Dragon, consuming all the energy from the deaths of the other EDs, or something like that.

To me it’s intriguing. First time trying to get to somewhere is like “ok here’s the tunnel there” and after a while “umm, nope, this wasn’t it”.

Sure I have a good map memory and will be able to navigate most environments after a while of orientation. I can understand that people with poor spatial awareness and map memory can be in trouble.

I see it as a welcome challenge. Also love Verdant Brink with the huge vertical aspect. Auric Basin is pretty much the worst of the maps so far, because of the simplified layout.

Because little kids (like all the face styles for humans in GW2) look stupid with dreads.

So if they introduce “rougher” haristyles for humans, they should definitely also introduce “rougher” face styles, too.

Try to make a middle-aged human character? Sorry, no can do. But you can make lots of asian-looking young dudes with emo hair.

According to its name?? ELITE specialization. ELITE, E L I T E .

Sorry but it doesn’t work that way. Just like the ELITE skills we have are in many case not any more powerful than utility skills and in many cases flat out worse, and many classes, given the chance, would happily trade their ELITE skill for a fourth utility skill.

Income after HoT?

God bless baubles, I got 10 of it in 1 event at auric basin and it was insta 3g! Also I see people farming fractal 10 for the cubes and ar infusions but since those 2 are going down in price it might not be that profitable anymore.

Now 10 per an event sounds more like it. Assuming the event doesn’t take more than 30 minutes.

I suppose it’s a nice added value, but in general I don’t like vendor trash sources for income as they inflate the market by bringing in more gold into the system.

Why is silk going up in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

Why do you prefer permanent nodes for silk compared to indirect drops or added temporary supply (for example through wintersday?

We’ve replied to this question many times already, but you somehow seem to want to ignore our response.

So here it is once more. With a farmable source of cloth, the prices of the scraps (and derivatives) would naturally fluctuate to a point where some people start skipping the nodes because they don’t feel it’s worth their time to harvest them. Just like with metal and wood.

Silk getting more expensive -> More people harvesting -> Silk getting less expensive -> Less people harvesting. Repeat ad infinitum.

but it has been said many times before that just farming sw or other content that includes alot of mob kills will also increase your silk drops, so why not do that?

And what happens, once the demand for silk is saturated but people still get lots of silk from indirect drops, like leather? exactly, its price will keep falling until vendor value and we are at square one again.

That’s why we also suggested the random drops would be reduced at the same time, or did you ignore that, too?

Why is silk going up in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

It’ll keep climbing because more is demanded from than is supplied into the market. The “fix” Wanze mentioned was adding a temporary, additional source of silk (festivals) into the market, which indeed did increase supply and reduce the price. But this fix was, as said, temporary.

Dropping the requirement for Damask by 50% would probably make silk worthless again over time, so there should be some middle ground. In another thread some of us suggested adding harvesting nodes for cloth, which would introduce a reliably farmable source of cloth, while reducing the random drops of cloth. That way the market could set the price of cloth themselves by intentionally generating more silk when it’s getting expensive and less silk when it’s getting cheap.

For some reason, Wanze seems to think it would not be a good option. My guess is he’s sitting on stacks and stacks of silk bolts in his banks, rubbing his hands together gleefully while watching the price go up and up.

Stealth in MMO's will always be overpowered

Tom Gore.4035

Comparing to WoW stealth is stupid, because in WoW you cannot restealth in combat save for a long cooldown ability. WoW stealth also breaks when you’re hit or take DoT damage.

WoW stealth is fine and what it should be.
GW2 stealth is op, cmon a class that have so many escape options + teleports + stealth with an autoattack that doing more than 50% dmg of your hp in one hit is just bullkitten. Plus HS doing 5k and you can even spam it. And thats the class that you can safely go full bers with no drawbacks.
This class need CD’s or cost more intiative plus removing backstab from autoattack. It just need revamp. Who ever thought to make a class that can stealth almost every few secs with avesome burst and autoattack and escape mechanism needs an Oscar for making that class. I even tried it with lv 5 thief in wvw and ended up killing 4 ppl in 5 mins of roaming LOL.

Yeah but we all know the devs are not going to do a complete redesign of stealth. Which is why I suggested just removing stealth stacking. That would still keep stealth a viable mechanic while removing a lot of abuses of it.

We’ve been having a discussion about the high Damask price (the highest tier of cloth in the game, used in Ascended crafting) and I’ve been arguing that high cloth prices are the direct effect of not having reliable ways of farming cloth. There are no cloth nodes, so the only reliable way to “farm” them is to forge karma items and salvage them. Everything else is too random to produce the desired effect to offer enough supply to keep cloth prices down.

The reason TAUNT is GREAT for GW2

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

i agree with opener. Taunt makes for great opportunities for strategical combat. And given it’s a control effect, and not condition i think we can be sure that it’ll be short and scarce enough to not turn the whole game into perma taunt spams into the “tanks” (which we don’t have).

Many control effects are conditions, too. Daze and Stuns are stuns and not remove via condi cleanse, but fear for example is a condition, as is immobilize.

We don’t yet know if Taunt is a condition or a stun. I would actually assume it’s a condition like fear and will be affected by both stunbreak and condi cleanse.

Taunt is a status effect, not a condition.

From the blog post:

Taunt (Status Effect)
We have many different status effects in Guild Wars 2 that accomplish a variety of goals, such as knockdown, knockback, and daze.

So it won’t be affected by condi cleanse

Ok so you need a stunbreaker to remove it. All the more indication that taunts will be short-duration and long-cooldown. It will have pretty much zero effect in PvE, but obviously there will be some interesting applications for PvP.

Well I guess it will have similar effect to other status effects so it will all be based on their rework of Defiant (if any) to make them all useful in PVE.

Yeah Defiant would definitely need some looking into. There was some hint in the gameplay videos they showed from HoT that it will be changed into a meter of some sort. We’ll see. Would be nice if control effects would be useful in PvE too, without needing to have supreme coordination.

Why do you think you get a taunt? Even if you get one its will be high telegraphed on a long cd. And its not like you cant use stunbreak either.

And like Tom said, new cookies are for revenant+specializations olny

If Warrior gets a taunt and people stun break that, now they’re vulnerable to other chain CC combos Warrior have.

Must be so hard to count stun breaks I guess. But who knows? Maybe next patch will give all classes 10 million stun breaks.

If someone uses taunt they’re probably choosing it over another CC or utility. It’s not like it comes free for those that use it, either.

Blizzard stealth is still OP because it allows the rogue to open up combat always at their terms (and often having the enemy at a disadvantage to begin with), and disengage from any fight that is going badly for them, again catering to no risk high rewards style gameplay.

And it has been said that specializations might lose some of the utilities and/or mechanics of the base class. Meaning any speculation of Taunt+anything warrior has now might be not possible to do in HoT.

Now, Taunt + 100blades should definitely be possible, as it doesn’t rely on any utilities we have currently or our burst mechanic.

Those locations are not special. They are not in the mists, but part of the normal PvE area. So you are still required to teleport to HotM if you want to queue.

Those who say permastealthing thieves are not OP because they’re not doing anything have apparently never chased two of them around your keep/castle for a couple of hours.

You are correct. Alot of those people have killed them.

Yeah, usually with the help of stealth traps and at least double the manpower compared to the amount of thieves.

Anything less and the thieves weren’t very good.

Stop pretending it’s ok for a couple of players being able to avoid getting killed by 4+ players for 10+ minutes.

You sure you don’t main a thief yourself?

I did, but I started maining ele once I realized how much thief lacked in the role department. Ele puts way more on the table and does it’s job much better than thief could ever manage.

I agree with that sentiment. That’s why my thief is also mostly sitting on the sidelines. However, good luck ninjaing a keep with your Ele, which is what I argued against.

I have no issues with stealth being an offensive and defensive tool. My only gripe is permastealth in WvW, because it can tie way too much resources around hunting 1-2 players trying to hide in a captured keep/castle. That’s why I suggested that stealth stacking would be removed. It would still be a powerful combat ability, but it would remove most of the problems of risk-free engaging/disengaging and being able to run half a dozen players around the map all by yourself.

Is 100b coming back to PvP? Quickness change

in Warrior

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

Will a channeled, rooting skill with a random chance of being useful every 30 seconds be viable in high-level PvP? Probably not.

100b never left the low-level PvP though. I still enjoy tearing people in WvW/Hotjoin to shreds with bull rush + 100b and I don’t even need quickness to do it.

Well, with Taunt a Skullcracker build might become more viable for more than just dueling and roaming because between Bull’s Charge, Shield Bash, and some sort of Taunt Elite you would be able to land the stun fairly frequently. Even if you don’t land the stun, Taunt + Frenzy/Rage + 100b would be effective. Imagine doing that on top of a downed enemy, they go for the revive and end up just running into your 100b while you cleave the downed guy.

Hammer/GS is another option, you see it in WvW but being able to pull a group of people into your Earthshaker? Scary stuff.

Any Taunt Warriors are going to get is going to be available for the Specialization only and we don’t know what current utilities and/or mechanics that specialization will lose, so really not worth speculating over until we know more about the upcoming warrior spec.

Don’t play hot join or unranked.

That as a solution is flawed, in the sense that there should be somewhere you can practice playing your class before you go ranked.

Unranked is ok for practice I guess, but even there people for some reason expect you to be able to play your class perfectly and call out if you don’t.

Hotjoin is just a hideous mess where you will very rarely get any practice (note how the panel reads “Practice” for hotjoin?) because the matches are 90% of the time total blowouts one way or another.

I wouldn’t be opposed to forcing random teams at the beginning and no team switching. Players joining mid-game would be placed into a queue and when two of them join they’re randomly dropped into both sides, at the same time. If a player leaves the game before it’s finished he gets the dishonor debuff. At the same time the last player to join from an opposing team is put onto the queue until there is another player in the queue to replace him (if there is none right away).

Those measures would already make the game much cleaner and would encourage players to try their best until the very end.
