We did have an unrestricted records section but it became inactive after some time so it was removed. People attribute that inactivity to specific rules being too lax. (Timing rules) What I don’t understand is why we need to combine the two. Why not just update the unrestricted ruleset to match the restricted ruleset in the areas that are most important (ie. Timing and video proof).
Sarcasm aside, can you give a more substantive counter argument? I’m curious what folks think on this, and what their reasoning is.
Let’s say we do allow jumping over walls. The first time it is done it is a novel strategy and everyone is wowed. After that, it becomes the status quo and we are back to square one as the same strategy is rehashed in subsequent runs. Eliminating “exploit” rules is not going to increase creativity or innovative solutions. Instead it will reinforce stale tactics that MUST be used in order to get a better time.
@dutchiez – So does this mean the DPS meters that are in use are also not allowed?
We would have done unrestricted if we had people to compete with. But there was a fault with the unrestricted ruleset. It didnt have the same starting rules as restricted (time starts when you move). Which kind of killed any hope for it. So we just went with where the timing rules made sense and where there was competition.
It’s unrestricted… who cares when the timer starts… just exploit your way to the end and submit your record to be beaten by someone who can walk through walls or w/e.
I’m gonna laugh when unrestricted category gets added and no one uses it.
Well, if they aren’t trolling legitimate instances then why do you care if they are back? I believe people should be given second chances. Try to be a little more understanding.
Anet already has a vision for the game that does not include dungeons. Unfortunately their dungeon team was dissolved a while back so don’t expect any “dungeon” specific content. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
Chill out, take a breath, take a week to experience all the changes, then make a decision. Your 24 hour exposure to the new dailies is not enough to make such a big decision.
One thing to keep in mind is that these changes have only been out for one day. I think is is ignorant of us to be so negative when our exposure to this new feature is quite low. Why not suppress the rage for a week so you can gain a little insight and take time to experience everything this patch has to offer?

I think the OP is grossly exaggerating the current situation. ANet has a vision for this game. That vision might not line up with your vision. Therefore, ANet will do things and continue to do things that you won’t agree with. I think you need to take a step back and gain some perspective on the whole situation. This is a game… there is no reason to be this upset over something that isn’t even real.

What do you mean by ecto refinement? As in ascended material?
Correct. Depending on which crafting profession you chose, when you get to level 450 the ecto refinement option becomes available (you still need to get to 500 to craft the armor though). This item can only be crafted once a day and resets after the daily reset. Defending turrets requires you to dps and only dps unless you fail your job and have to repair the turret… then you have to press “F” twice.

Is it worth though? You get to see a number and that’s it. You can’t compare it with other people because rarely anyone uses a DPS meter.
It doesn’t show personal but rather party-wide dps.
Meta party – 45k – 100k dps
Decent party – 35k – 45k dps
Decent pug – 25k – 30k dps
PHIW pugs – 10k – 20k dps
In fact, I may argue, party-wide dps is much more important than your personal dps. The goal for the a dungeon run is to get maximum party dps after all, not just min/max your own output.
So basically the tool just reads the mob health from the system memory and takes the delta health of them. Eg. at second 0 it had 1m hp and second 1 it had 950k so your party dps would be 50k for that second.
I doubt he is doing delta mob health. I would put my money on aggregating damage dealt being the DPS count.
Also: you can talk in real time in the chat box for 0-sec coverage of all developing memes.

This type of logic is unfounded.
a. He does not take 1 and 1/2 hours to kill. Don’t use hyperbole’s they don’t help your argument
b. skipping him is a valid tactic.
Even if everyone skipped this boss (hypothetically 100% skips by all players), it would not be wise to remove it from the dungeon because it takes away the freedom to choose to engage the troll or not. This boss is an opt in boss, just the way is should be.
This is great news! So you’re telling me that farming isn’t causing inflation, but is lowering prices? Awesome because I’d really like to buy a precursor since I’ve never had one drop (probably because I don’t farm enough).
So since I’ve been playing the enjoyable way to me, fractals, map exploration, a dungeon or two in a session, and saved almost every penny I’ve made for the last 809 days, I’m now closer to buying a precursor? I’ve got 401 gold Which one can I buy?
And when I get really lucky and manage to find a lvl 400 crafting material, can it sell for a lot to get me closer to my goal? Or has the majority of fairly “rare” things I am likely to come across now been devalued, while inflation has increased significantly for things that can’t be farmed?
There is a post on reddit where a guy compares prices (gems, gold and $$) of precursors and found that while the gold cost has been increasing, the actual $$ value is decreasing. ($$ value is if you bought the gold with real money vs. farming)
I like the idea of the pheromone mechanic in the Aetherpath (the elemental part) and feel it can be used to an extent to focus aggro in a fight where the group is required to split up in order to survive.
No content will retain the difficulty it presented on the first day due to the fact that we learn. The main reason people think the current dungeon content in the game is “easy” is because we’ve been practicing them for 2 years. The same will happen with raids. The hardcore guilds will complete the raid, create guides for the raid, then simplify the raid strategies. Once this is done, it allows people with less time to complete the content.

In my humble opinion, I feel the difficulty threshold should be very high. This means that only a very small set of the population can complete the raid until it is nerfed(normally when the next raid is released or a specific amount of time). The expectation that one should be able to complete the raid without much time invested is silly.
Sucks that I lost a couple friends to the snowflake exploit or linen farm but this is totally legitimate. I don’t care about the semantics of exploiting, rather, I wish Anet would be consistent. No matter how you look at this, there is an advantage for the people who did not complete the story event; case closed. Nothing is more confusing for a player who likes to push the boundaries than people with banning power making flippant decisions.
Ranged dps sucks kitten . If you want to compare both classes use the right builds.
1. I find ranger dps pretty good, lower than grenade engi, but still good.
2. since it will be me playing I will use the build I feel most comfortable with (dps / surv / support balance)
I find it funny that you ask for advice on your characters and yet you don’t even treat all input as equal. Should have just titled this thread “Agree with my build choice so I feel validated.”
All Anet has to do is balance dungeons around a party of five, rather than… balance the part around a party of two or however they are balanced now.
They are balanced around a party of five. But when there’s no new content for two years, the dungeon paths that do exist get run so many times they become easy.
Just think about how hard people were saying the dungeons were 2 years ago.
That would require some initiative and we all know that person isn’t a rogue :P
