Commander – Jam Death [Jd]
Fissure of Woe
The power modifier for rangers is lower than the other classes and most of the damage from power comes from Crit Damage, that said looks like your build will benefit a lot more from 250 cond damage, so go with the sigil of corruption.
Completely this ^^
In a game of active combat where timing is everything, performing 3 actions in order to reap the benefits of one is a severe handicap and again emphasizes just how poorly done this pet system really is. It is not on level playing field with other class mechanics.
Heh, do you mean the class mechanic of the thief that everybody adores? Check the forums for QQ about thieves.. It’s silly to believe that every profession has the same potential and that every class mechanic is at the same level..
To illustrate: If a warrior had to press F3 to clear his current attack queue, press F1 to re-start auto attack, and then F2 to use his burst skill, the skill would almost always be delivered late when the moment of opportunity had passed.
Warrior =/= Pet
Ranger has a steeper learning curve than (oh yeah) thief for instance.. And this makes it an awesome profession.. Ok, if you can’t handle the micro management, get a profession without the pet..
Too bad hitting F3 is NOT the solution, I mean sure if I wanted 95% of the pets F2s to be worthless but at least activate it’d be a good idea, but having my drake scorch thin air because I need to avoid pressing F1 is stupid and NOT A SOLUTION.
You should have elaborated that you were talking about the special F2 attack of your pet in your begin post then, by the way.. You merely mention attack, so F1..
Also, just a hint, put your pet to passive, so that the hitting of F1 becomes a reflex, instead of hoping that the AI triggers nicely and your pet rushes to its target..
It’s true that there are still some issues with the F2 activation (lots of QQ threads about it), so no idea why you needed to make another thread about it?
How kick all other guild leaders at once?)
Hierarchy.. The highest guild rank has the option to manage lower ranks.. So the true guild leader (the one that started the guild) has by default the highest rank. If he/she creates a guild rank called “guild leader” and adds some people in this, it will still remain a lower rank than his (although not easy notable), so he can manage this rank (and kick all members from it, …)
Just don’t be bothered by them.. Do your events, complete them if possible, and if they give you some kitten, just block and report..
I remember fondly my latest additions on my block list after I solo’d the Champion Troll and the little farming train appeared.. Ahh, good times..
So where is problem? I see way too often that my pet just won’t attack my target. It just roams around and doesn’t attack.
1) F3 will make your pet stop attacking and start getting back to you (read: attack queue cleared)
2) F1 on your target: new attack queue started
Micro-management for the win..
I use the same pets always, whether in PvE/PvP or WvW..
#1: Krytan Drakehound: has quite high DPS, melee, has an awesome knockdown attack, F2 = AoE immobilize
#2: Juvenile Jungle Spider: decent DPS, ranged, spams poison, F2 = target immobilisation
instead, one need to push deep into rear of the enemy line, or flank from the side. you dont need to be in the middle of the enemy.
Best way to use Entangle, indeed.. Get to the rear of the enemy group, pop down Entangle, Lightning Reflex out of there, spam Barrage, get back in and stomp..
“Soon.. Upcoming changes.. In progress..”
Hmmz, I’d make one hell of a Devon Carver..
Ranger in WvW is one of the most fun I ever had. I don’t know for sure yet, how competetive the ranger is in the spectrum of skills needed in WvW, but for sure I can say, that I find it the most fun profession to play atm.
So cheers my hunting brothers^^
Glad to see at least some people appreciate the awesomeness of us, rangers.. :-)
Welcome, hunting brother!
You could play any class with no armor on at 900-1200 range in a guild zerg and not die, it doesn’t mean you’re being as useful.
Depends on your guild setup of course.. I’m the only ranger during our raids (almost everyone is a staff/hammer guardian), we have some elementalists (for static/fire fields) and the ocasional mesmer..
However, I think you mean here that the ranger doesn’t give any added value to a group? I am indeed not one who puts boons on my allies or such, but I am the one who does the damage.. Autoattacking with shortbow for 1k with piercing arrows, putting some entangle and barrage down, and back to keeping my distance..
Of course, depending on the size of the guild zerg, you can always switch to a spirit ranger build. Spirit of Nature’s Renewal is awesome and massive support in a group imho..
That’s just pve :/
Agree, it’s not the zergballing that you’d like to see in WvW.. But the map is EB, so it is WvW, and all that is capped by my useless ranger gives points/tick..
Spirit Ranger OP? Nah, it’s just cheese, nothing more.. Counter the cheese, have some epic wins..
I experimented with the Spirit Ranger, and have to admit that the Spirit of Nature’s Renewal is quite OP in teamfights (instant rez). But I didn’t like the playstyle at all (I’m not used to go melee as a ranger), so rebuilt to my zerker setup..
And now, when encountering one of those spirit rangers solo, they melt to my zerker build. Also, LB#5 works like a charm on a spirit ranger, killing his spirits with one action..
So, don’t blame the cheese or the meta, just be inventive and counter it.. :P
Thats with zerker gear, on a noob who cant avoid the telegraphed maul. Zerker rangers are a gimmick at best.
See me gimmick..

Jeezes, another kitten thread about how crap rangers apparently are?
Here is a newsflash: They aren’t! I’m still running WvW with my ranger (LB/SB) and manage quite nicely.. I run with my ranger both in guild zergs and solo, and never any problem here..
So everyone who claims that ranger was never worth anything: Please, L2P. And cut all these “buff my ranger because I suck” threads..
We’ve also debated ranger… But apparently they’re pretty terrible and she doesn’t seem too into the gameplay of them.
Debate again please.. Ranger is not at all terrible, seriously.. There is a reason I have more than 1k hours logged on my main (ranger). If it would really be that terrible, do you think I’d spend that much time on it..
Ok, the argument that the gameplay doesn’t seem to fit her, is valid.. Although there are different playstyles with a ranger (depending on the build you are running).
And my choice would be Warrior then: It has nice ranged abilities (Rifle = great, Bow has awesome AoE) while still maintaining a high armor rating (due to heavy armor). And if the need is there, you can easily switch to a melee weapon and facepalm that mob..
What build do you use? Do you have a link?
Well, I can’t use gw2skills or sites like that at work, so I can only link you to one of my vids where I explain the build:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRFszeYiXWg
(“tracklist” is in the description, so you can quickly jump to the build part of the vid)
Hey guys I’ ve opened this topic just to make you all realize the lack of rangers in wvw..and above all the lack of rangers using shortbow..I have a question for Arenanet: Why there are so few rangers around?^
I’m a full LB/SB ranger roaming around in WvW.. Thing is, by the time you’ll have noticed me, you probably will be dead.. ;-) :p
Well, technically they can get 3s of stealth of the run lolbow. Only time it’s worth it is skyhammer though really >_>
Have to admit that I don’t see that many spirit rangers with longbows.. :/ Normal setup for spirits is Shortbow + Sword/Torch or something, no?
Any one else running a zerker ranger finding yourself faced by bosses 70%+ of the time, if not more?
Yeps.. Noticed that also.. Even stranger though: If I keep in front of the enemy (with a ranged weapon), the boss will go for my pet. If I get on the side/back of the mob, it’ll turn to me as well.. That little increase in DPS due to our flanking trait can’t be the cause of that, right?
Heal skill is popping your (default binded) #6
Well, Power/Vitality/Thoughness is the Soldier’s prefix..
You can check out a list here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats
Hey there.. :-)
Well, since those are the two weapons that you favour (although I strongly suggest to give the others a good try), you’ll have to make sure to stock up on something life-increasing or damage-reducing (because a greatsword means that you want to get in melee from time to time): Vitality and/or Thoughness..
Should you take both, then you only have one “aggressive” option on your armor remaining (Power/Precision/Condition damage/Critical damage). And because of the two weapons (lack of conditions) I would go here to increase your Power, so that the overall damage output increases..
Of course you can mix all kinds of stats, or even go celestial (armor that gives a (lesser) increase to ALL stats), it all depends a bit there..
Also, your playstyle can/will change a bit during the level up progress (and especially once you hit the magic 80), so my advice here is to not invest that much yet in your armor (crafting it yourself is handy and gives you every 5 levels a new set, so you can freely experiment with some stats – craft a Power armor set at 40 and a Precision armor set at 45 and see/feel the difference).
For consumables, I can’t quite help you with that (I don’t use them that often tbh)..
Also, this post is my opinion, I’m sure fellow rangers will have their knowledge to share.. :-)
The setup at the moment is that, since it’ s a JP in WvW, some WvW action is needed to get to it (capture a keep in EB). Split this JP from WvW alltogether, and it’s just a PvE jumping puzzle (with some limited player killing)?
Thing is, I am wondering how can character progress through pve by just doing PvP?
You can’t, simple as that.. PvP and PvE are completely separated..
So create another tab with emotes? Or create a WvW tab that has no emotes and you can switch to main if you need to see them? Or… do whatever works best for you with the tools that are available instead of QQing about something stupid.
Chill.. I was just clarifying to someone why people would wanna keep the emotes on..
Also, I’m not the OP, so I’m not QQing about anything.. L2R, my friend..
That just means your assailants are stupid. Pet’s make it easier to identify, but there is still our weapons. So unless you are running around in shortbow or sword/dagger you shouldn’t look like any other class but ranger.
I do agree that an assailant with half a brain should be able to see my weapon and indeed conclude that I’m a ranger.. And of course, also when you’d select me, you’d see the Signet of the Hunt (ranger skill).. :-)
The stowing of the pet’s biggest main reason was to don’t get into combat that much, btw.. But thought it worthwile to mention here: the closer your opponent has to come to you to determine your class, the better he is in range for your bows..
(edited by Tribio.8531)
The problem is that there is no such thing as a WvW population:
If the PvE kitties don’t have any carnival, they’ll be more and more in WvW.. However, if a living story update is pushed, you won’t see those for days..
It’s a good suggestion, but unfortunately not something which can be done easily..
Are we going to see a thread like this for every class??
/thread
You can but you have to chain stealth. I was comparing to WoW where you just hit your Stealth button and walk around for hours without having to maintain it (aside from not getting caught).
Ah ok, thanks for clarifying.. :-)
You’re correct in that Thieves cannot stealth for extended periods of time and just walk around stealthed indefinitely, but you can stealth in combat every few seconds which you cannot do in WoW.
Thieves are able to permastealth in PvP also, no? Ok, they will be only good for trolling (since they had to spec for it, so not that much DPS output), but still.. Or am I wrong?
I’m picking up a rabid set soon just to see how well I fare with the added toughness.
Well, a condition build (as mentioned by Indoles) will indeed also work very nicely.. However, it will take a bit longer to get the NPC’s at a camp down. On the other hand: Condition builds are very powerful against players (since in WvW especially I see lots of players with a lack of condi removal).
My first armor set was Power/Precision/Condi dmg, and it worked nicely also.. Still very glass, but imho the Power can be replaced by Thoughness and the Precision by Healing Power (referring to the infamous Spirit Ranger build, so commonly met in PvP nowadays)
I have been using the suggested combo since using a personal variant of your build and it has indeed worked great in WvW (I commented as Achiox on your vid) ^^ just very squishy in team/zerg fights :’(
Completely correct, a glass cannon isn’t made to get into the big team/zerg fights.. However, a tactic you can use when zerging (or in my case when running with a large guild group) is to be the sniper of the team.. Just keep full range and attack (LB with piercing arrows works nicely against groups). And when all skills are recharged (read: your burst is ready), jump in, choose a target, bring him down and get the hell out again.. (another player will finish the work)
“Hit and run”, the best tactic for a zerker ranger.. :-)
First: there is no rogue in GW2.. Thief you mean.. And no access to stealth? You should check out all the QQ threads about perma stealthers..
While the guardian is indeed a bit more oriented in healing and the warrior tends to do more DPS, a lot depends on how you start building your character.. I have seen warriors pop heals that would make a guardian blush, while on the other hand I once saw a guard that did tons of dmg..
So, you want a suggestion? Experiment! You have 5 character slots to start with, just create a toon, head to PvP (so you have all skills and lvl 80 armor/weps) and experiment on the test golems or do a hotjoin and have some battles.. Of course, this is mainly PvP oriented..
Should you want to do more PvE (the story of GuildWars, open free world, no player killing) you’ll see that it most of the times results in a different playstyle… But also here the same suggestion stands: Experiment! :-)
I enjoy long walks at Southsun, candle lit dinners…
… and not being such a fail ranger in WvW. :‘( I’ve tried looking for the “classifieds” section on the forums but nope, non-existent!
Are there any full zerker WvW rangers that can coach me for a few sessions? I’m playing on the Henge of Denravi server at the moment.
My build + preferred playstyle is very similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRFszeYiXWg so extremely glassy and essentially a thief magnet.
After getting melted countless times in WvW, I have come to conclusion that I’m really just a joke of a glass cannon. Is there any hope for me?
How awesome to see that my berserker vid is inspiring people.. :-)
However, you should always keep in mind that with a build like this, you want to keep the times you are hit to a minimum (since you really can’t take too much hits as glass).
So this build will work when you encounter a player 1v1, depending on the specs of the other one.. I normally can make quick work of a same built berserker ranger, but as you indeed mention: Being berserker ranger makes you a bit of a thief magnet.. Thank god we can now also stealth..
(so the mentioned combo in the vid for Longbow: #4, #3, #2 —> change to #4, #2, and keep your #3 for the dire need when you need to make a quick escape)
but in WvW a pet essentially becomes a handle for people to grab onto as they play ‘kill that slow ranger’.
Main reason I always stow my pet in WvW: the assailant has no clue as to what class you are until he hits you and the pet appears and start hitting him.. If you indeed keep the pet out, it will get you in combat way too easy (in WvW specifically).
Congratulations to all Fissure of Woe fellows
First time FoW won a matchup!
Oh yeah, my grandchildren will hear of this glorious day..
Nicely played all!
+1
And gives us a purpose for all those stacks of Badges..
Eh? Why is this a problem?
You can turn off emotes in chat.
Some people do like to keep the emotes on, so when clearing a tower after capturing they can see that invader going to sleep (to hide from sight)..
Wholeheartedly agree here, the commander icon and its implementation need some love from ANet.. Well, actually entire WvW needs love from ANet.. Oh well, who knows, one day..
Loyalty is a myth in MMO, we play game to have fun, not to create more commitment, if the guild or the server or even the game can’t provide and maintain that, people will leave.
Then I’m a mythical creature, since I’m loyal to my Fissure of Woe till the end!
You have got to be kidding…
Queensdale – 6 champions
Fields of Ruin – 13 champions
Malchor’s Leap – 8 champions
Cursed Shore – 12 champions
Lots of areas – 5-6 champions
You have got to be misreading..
Champs, events, vets.. You only mention Champs (and indeed, I know Fields holds more than QD)..
Hoping ANet won’t simply tinker with QD but rather buff the event / champ rates for other areas instead.
Indeed, hoping the same.. I’m getting bored to run around in Queensdale/Wayfarer for daily, if only a higher level area would have the same amount of events/champs/vets…
Hi there, just want to clarify my suggestion. I think as it is right now, pet cannot dodge. What i meant is to give the pet evasion (like Blurred Frenzy mesmer skill or other ranger skills), so yeah your pet still keeps on attacking.
Ok, this I can live with.. :-)
Hmmz, I have activated mine already in WvW, Dungeons, Fracs and open world, always without any issues.. Never tested it in PvP though…
Report them for spamming?
My take on pet evade is that whenever you evade, the pet evades as well (in some form of giving evasion for 1-2sec for example). This could be a permanent change to the class or a trait option.
Although I understand why you’d say so, I disagree here..
If I have to dodge with my ranger, that means that I’m getting aggro’d.
So I don’t want my pet to dodge together with me at that time, on the contrary, I want it to keep hitting my aggrressor, so I can (possible) de-aggro..
Probably one of the tankiest thieves there is?
Well, this is caused because the longbow has activation time on its skills.. So if you pop #3 and your target suddenly is out of reach of the arrow (standing behind you all of a sudden or so), the skill will not trigger, but it will give you a generic (shorter) cooldown..
This isn’t the cause with SB, since those arrows activate sooooooooo much quicker…
I used to be a fervid WvW player, but noticed that the last months I’m more and more away from WvW and doing that PvE stuff (Living story), just beacuse ANet made it imperative to get Achievement Points for reward chests
Any WvW player will agree: The AP you can get in WvW is.. yeah.. just kittening sad..
(8 months of WvW means as much AP as one PvE carnival)
Could you please post Regan’s build?
Might be best to ask it to Regan in game, no? Regan’s built is even more GC than mine..
What did you guys do to find a character you truly enjoyed playing.
Well, my main character (Freya, ranger) is based upon a girl that works in a local bar (oh, if she’d only knew she was my inspiration), so she looks very much like her.. And of course, like this you get some sort of ‘bond’ with your character, making you come back to it all the time.. :-)
Of course it speaks for itself that I also love the playstyle of the ranger (especially with 2 bows), so that’s another argument for coming back to her..
