Commander – Jam Death [Jd]
Fissure of Woe
I really think that if you only use a Longbow and only want the Longbow skills to be adjusted, that this is a case of L2P..
I myself am a full zerker ranger, so I’m quite sure that, once enemies remember I have stomped them before, they’ll be like “oh kitten, her again”. And I know for a fact that our guild leader (Regan) has an awesome burst ranger that will kill 4 players in seconds.. So I assume he’ll be feared as well in time..
TL;DR: Reaction “I can kill it” should be triggered on player, not on class..
If you really are serious about this, it might be better to post in the Suggestions subforum?
And my 50 cents about this would be that I’d like to see Dwarves again first as playables before Quaggan..
Since, admit it, quaggans are awesome due to the programming and voice acting behind it.. Don’t think they would feel that cool when playing one yourself..
If you’re not so serious:
It all kind of depends on a lot of external factors: If my friends wanna hang out in real life, I won’t be logging at all. However, when I’m home alone with no plans whatsoever, I tend to play quite some hours.
A normal GW2 rotation for me looks like:
- Complete daily PvE (for the AP, thanks ANet)
- Complete daily PvP (for the AP, thanks again)
- Some living story content (guess for what)
- Work on some lesser achieves (slayer, …), oh yeah, also to get some AP
- WvW/PvP (I switch from time to time, when the first gets boring and vice versa) – because I like to do so..
And before those kitties come here and mention why I even do all those AP stuff: Because WvW yields little to none, and I don’t wanna get stuck at 2000AP or so (and those reward chests do look nice – account wide bonuses are my fave)..
I have no sympathy for people complaining about server lag since the fault lies between the keyboard and the chair. Look in the mirror and realize that the only reason your server lags is because there are more players then it can handle
So a server lags because there are more players on it then it can handle, and this is the fault of the player himself? As far as I know, a server admin has the absolute power to see how much traffic he is willing to allow on his server.. So imho ANet should have put some better quota on their servers when rolling them out..
No.
Absolutely agree.. Chose the server, will die on the server (over and over and over…)
Because the basic-damage of those weapons are higher + weapon-traits synergyize better with affecting 5 skillz instead of 3 or 2, which is mostly the case for one-handed weapons.
There you have it.. :-)
It was resetted once when they revamped the AC mastery, but after that you were kittened if you had put your WxP points already in something..
Oh well, once you achieve rank 1150 or so you’ll have all masteries, no worries.. ;-)
Although there is some horrendous English in the post above, it has some great truths.. As a native FoW player this has been a frustration by lots of players on our map when facing a high populated server..
The only positive thing about our matchup at the moment is that WSR has lost quite some WvW guilds, therefor resulting in a medium popped WvW server, and giving a nice matchup in T9..
running an AZERTY keyboard layout btw (Belgium)

A player who was blessed by the RNG gods doesn’t necessarily mean he is a good/skilled player.. As Drix mentioned above, the only thing that impress me, is the skill the player shows..
And to be honest, I kind of cackle when I see someone with a legendary: I can only imagine the frustration and gold he/she had to put up just to have some flowers growing on every step they take.. Kitties ^^
Well, after a while you just get used to all those impressive dragons, it’s just normal human reaction I guess..
Should ANet implement like an even bigger dragon boss, we would be like “Wow, awesome” for the first week, afterwards it’d be like “been there, done that, not impressive at all”..
Also bear in mind that those dragons that we don’t find that impressive anymore still are in the eyes of new players..
Full zerker LB/SB ranger roaming solo in WvW (before the Hunter’s Shot patch, but doesn’t change the build at all):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRFszeYiXWg
All traits and weapons/armor is mention in the vid’s description..
The trash can tier now has 3 natural residents, and the rest of us should never have to play there again.
Trash can tier.. kitten , you are so full of yourself, you should be in a separate tier with a server just for you.. K I T T E N!!
How is this working so smoothly?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCwE_0ZMydk
If you look closely you’ll see that lots of those players are looking entirely the same (completely the same texture set). So although you see like tons of characters, only 4-5 distinct models are generated (and replicated).
With GW2 that’s impossible: Every player has something different than another one (whether it be another armour, other dyes, ….). So each model of those X players has to be generated..
There is no machine powerful enough to handle a big WvW zerg in GW2. The client is not very well optimized.
Completely agree.. I have a massive gaming rig, but even I get FPS drops when I’m closing in on a zerg..
However, with the update in August they are making some (I believe) changes that could impact the WvWvW lag: When a lot of effects are shown, the client will automatically drop the level of detail for the stacked animations.. Might be a good start to get all the lag out..
Queensdale is filled with Champs, so no need to call out every time on mapchat when one of those champies spawns, imho..
When I trigger a champ event, I only put on my commander, without mentioning anything in mapchat.. The attentive players will see that all of a sudden a dorito appeared at an event location and come by.. The zerg train will stare at their mapchat only, so they’ll miss it..
And when they noticed you have done an event without them, just start reporting their flames.. Works like a charm all the time!
You can only get them from the TP (they were reward items from Dragon Bash from some weeks ago)..
A zerg can still mindlessly spam through it, removing the whole point of a condition like confusion.
The main reason that confusion was nerfed into the ground was the QQ of zerglings that couldn’t spam their 1 anymore without dying..
Depending on whether I’m in PvE or WvW..
PvE
Queensdale, the Godslost Swamp is filled with frogs, sparkflies, …
WvW
Go to your BL and head to the northern camp: Lots of chickens and rabbits there..
I’m still running full zerker SB/LB in WvW, but I have noticed that the amount of SB users has dropped..
In PvP the most used build for rangers at the moment is the Spirit Ranger, and he needs his shortbow for the conditions..
Have tested this setup also in WvW, but not as cool to play in comparison with the zerker setup..
We should also gain stacks from ambients, if a thief can stealth off ambient creatures then other classes should gain stacks.
Here is a nice little thing touched, which I noticed also with my ranger..
When I have opening strike, it will trigger on an ambient. However, if I have my pet stowed, it won’t come out (due to my attack and hitting a mob).
So ambients are somehow strangely coded here it seems..
When you earn achievement points, you unlock achievement chests.. Looks to me like the perfect way to reward active play, no?
Also, every month there is a huge update with (most of the time) some new skins..
So forgive me, but I don’t see the problem?
Lets please lock that tier so noone else has to drop down there.
Don’t forget that you can spec your ranger also for melee, btw.. There are a lot of different ranger builds out there to experiment with.. :-)
I take offense to that. I melee just fine on my mesmer. Really though the base warrior sucks, what matters is your traits, both skills and points. You can build any class to be tanklike (some are better than others) or really strong. You just have to experiment with traits and find a build you like. Though you might try stepping out of your comfort zone, you might find you enjoy a class.
No offense was meant here, but since it’s a new player, it’s better to don’t start giving hard-to-master builds.. How many D/D ele’s did you see in WvW when they were still so OP? And how many of those had no clue whatsoever how to play it? :-)
So I agree that you can indeed tank with a light/medium armour (if you trait), but safe to assume is that the lower your armor rating, the bigger the distance to your enemy is?
Well said luna, once you pick a sever you stick with it. Fight till the end.
There you go!! Completely agree!
Your preferred play style is melee, but somehow the Warrior (high DPS, heavy armour) or Guardian (medium DPS, nice healing, heavy armour) isn’t your thing? Well, those are actually the only two classes that can easily melee something, the others will have to kite way more not to get too much dmg on them..
Advice here to give: experiment.. You have 5 character slots, feel free to create a toon and head to PvP (to unlock all skills and stuff) and see if you could love their skills/playstyle/…
I have to admit, this is one hell of a matchup.. Ok, we’re those guilds that left WSR of course very thankful, since now we might even hold this out with our numbers..
Had some nice guild runs yesterday evening, and it warmed my heart to see so much blue on the map (we were ticking at 600+ when I logged).
Hope to see some more WSR/Vabbi during the course of the week!
Alright, well it would be appreciated if you could say what that class is, and reasons why instead of just saying a completely useless response like that…
Well, I just wanted to add that there are more roaming classes than the ones you mention, but since you (seemed) only interested in those three, I couldn’t add any thoughts about it..
I would dare suggesting a ranger (preferrably spirit built), since it has some nice dmg from itself (due to conditions) and gives the rest of the (2 man) party some boosts.. Also the healing spring is awesome for support. And due to the normal armor you’ll be wearing for that (Toughness/Healing Power/Condition Dmg), you can tank quite nicely while keeping condition damage on your target and assisting your co-roamer..
The pet isn’t useless and has never been. If you’re actually a GOOD ranger you know how to handle your pet.
I completely agree, unfortunately there are others…
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Pet-evasion
But let me first take out the fuse from this keg: I am not calling anyone here a bad player or so, please understand that.. Also no offence is meant whatsoever in my post..
I don’t know what that means.
Well, because of a lot of QQ about the damage Confusion did, it was nerfed into the ground.. While this mechanic wasn’t broken at all, it just showed that the lesser players always like to complain about something..
You should never have your pet on passive, that’s a complete waste of a pet.
…….
and the direction the devs built it for.
I assume there is a reason that there is an option to keep your pet heeled. And I am quite sure that this option was put in by devs.. Ok, I’m not a supporter of “keep your pet heeled at all time”, but when the situation arises, I’ll do so.. See and react..
You obvious use different pets, probably favoring range because they can avoid the mechanic. Simple fact, a workaround is not the answer to a problem, it is a way of dealing with the problem until it’s fixed.
I use a ranged one (spider) and a melee one (dog), for the record..
In what way does this even approach being a legitimate argument.
You complained about that a ranger has absolutely no means whatsoever to keep his pet alive a bit longer in the heat of battle, I just gave you one..
True, you’ll have to build towards that specific setup, but I guess that’s just how things work, no? You can’t expect to be a glass cannon, tank, supportive healer and puppetmaster at the same time..
It’s your complete disregard for reason, logic and the intents behind the design of the game itself that puts me off, but I’m far too stuborn to stop just because you don’t make any sense.
I do enjoy a nice discussion about something, and I like that you keep fueling it.. But I’m not an unreasonable person and I do master the basics of logic.
Well how about I L2P you then, because you’re arguing game mechanics that have nothing to do with eachother.
Well, how about I L2R you, and show you the nice smiley underneath my mention of those mesmer clones..
It has totally nothing to do with this specific problem, but just wanted to show that each profession has something to complain about their profession-specific skills/tools/… if they want..
Well, how would you like to play your game now? Still in the heat of battle, soaking up damage and laughing at the mob before smashing down your hammer? Or be sneaky, go stealth and do a massive backstab?
Also, will you be playing solo only, or planning on going PvP/WvW/…?
Sound advice always: experiment! You have 5 character slots, just create a char, head to PvP (to check out all the skills that profession has) and if possible and you like it, start some PvE with it..
Once you reach level 30 with a character you’ll have a nice overall feeling of the playstyle associated..
I think that tiers are based on a combination of organisation and numbers, but that’s just my opinion..
I’m in T9, we have some nice organised guild runs at times, but lacking sheer numbers to be able to split up our organised runs and roam on multiple maps at the same time..
While other low tier servers might have the sheer numbers, but lacking organisation, hence all running around like chickens in a coup..
So the perfect balance between these two aspects and you’ll be high-tiering..
Rather than ‘fixing’ it, how about giving us the ability to move UI elements around, like nearly every other game has done since the year dot…
This ^^
One of the (many) things I liked so much about GW1: UI customization..
You keep on defending a broken system. Micro managing does work to an extent but it also severely limits certain types of gameplay in high dps scenarios, such as melee.
I don’t defend a broken system, I just mention that I have gotten used to it.. Trust me, you don’t want ANet to fix this broken system, or your pet would be nerfed into oblivion..
Your comment on mesmers shows me that you’re not logically thinking this out, the two things are completely different, beginning with the basic concept and recast times.
Agree, and here you say it again: Mesmer completely different than ranger (also, you didn’t notice the ;-) underneath the italic part in my post). So mesmers have clones who cannot dodge and whatever, … And rangers have pets that can’t dodge.. You kinda learn to live with it.. I seriously don’t wanna L2P you here, trust me..
I can only assume you’re attempting to troll and derail this thread.
Have your assumption.. You post a thread asking for input, but when the input is not to your liking, you ditch it? Might be better next time to post your thread in Notepad or so..
Won’t be replying to you further. Enjoy.
And a nice day to you too.. :-)
Dude, pets getting crushed by bosses and AoEs has been a Ranger bane since day one. If you don’t know that you don’t really belong in this forum.
Let me guess, just like Confusion was the zergling’s bane?
Jeezes, with such an array of pets at our disposal (and the knowledge that they are not that tanky by themselves), you should always have a pet either active and hitting or passive and buffing..
Pets need something, a way to evade, some sort of AoE protection, something.
“Any boon you get is shared with your pet”
I think a lot of Rangers wouldn’t like it, but they’re the same ones that want to get rid of their pets anyway. It’s another level of micro management and I’m totally ok with that.
I don’t wanna get rid of my pet, I like it like it is.. But yet I don’t agree with OP here..
I assume I’ll have another one now who won’t be replying to me, but hey, see me care..
I understand you’re obviously limited in some way. Allow me to elaborate so you can understand. This game utilizes the dodge/evade mechanic in all combat scenarios. Because our pet can not utilize this mechanic, they often become fodder for high damage abilitys, often killing them in a single hit.
Better?
Better explained (although I’m still missing a specific fractals mention here, oh well), but no reason to be so conceited like you are.. :P
Yeah, pets can’t dodge, true that.. But you do know that we are the only class that has an extra controllable entity, right? We can call our pet back (right before that boss will one-shot) or quickly switch to another.. So with some decent micro managing you can get your pet out of a lot of dire situations.. But once again: When you’re messing with such high DPS enemies, it might be better to have a supportive pet next to you heeled?
Next thing you know some mesmer will start whining that his clones don’t dodge either and get killed while running towards their target before shattering..
;-)
I use the Lightning Reflexes mainly as stun breaker and to create some quick distance (needed with my complete ranged build). “Protect me” (pet takes all dmg for some time iirc?) can be handy, but I don’t use it, since I plan on never getting hit (so no reason my pet should soak up dmg I won’t get).
Signet of Stone I don’t use that much, but I have seen it being used by more melee-oriented rangers.. The extra thoughness and the damage mitigation on activation are charming for that.. :-)
Signet of the Hunt is handy for roaming, since the 25% movement speed gets you at far places way quicker.. Also the activation will give a little burst in pet dmg..
Signet of the Wild gives you some good regen (but I think that the healing you get without having specced in healing power isn’t that great).
I used to switch Signet of the Hunt and Signet of the Wild during my roams..
You certainly shouldn’t forget Signet of Renewal, to have some passive condi removal (and insance active condi removal, your pet (make sure it’s close when you activate) will take all the condi’s from you – best to switch to another pet after doing so) :-)
My advice here: Experiment! It’s not because I like a specific setup that others will like it (or the play style associated with it). I’m sure within some time you’ll find your perfect build and show some nice ranger love to other players..
What a truly asinine statement. Obviously you don’t do high level fractals, or you’d know that protection doesn’t mean crap when the bosses can 1 shot. Trolls..
What a silly comment to think that I can deduce from your oh so extended post that you were referring to specific fractal play?
Also, you don’t heel your pet in fracs?
Have some food, little troll..
My pet gets protection when I evade (due to traits)..
It’s not like I can knockdown an enemy when my dog does it either..
Feel free to check out the linked YT-vid in my previous post.. :-)
And of course, there is also a thread here in these forums about all kinds of ranger builds, might be handy to get some ideas from there also? :-)

Hmmz, double feelings about this..
By putting a cache in the JP in WvW, ANet forces the PvE kitties to go into the dangerous WvW zone and at least get a keep in their possession to be able to enter it.. By putting it in a separate map, it’s more of a PvP oriented JP (without the WvW hassle), so if they wanted to do that, they’d put a cache in a PvP map.. :p
Although, on the other hand, anything that helps those high tier servers with their queues, is something I can only applaud..
Or then he already claimed his 100 points chest and just didn’t notice it and now has to wait until tomorrow to get his 500 points chest.
Oh yeah, or that.. ^^
the 500 AP then the 1000 AP nonetheless the 1.500, 2.000 dont appear highlighted even that i have
more than that =/
Those will get more and more hightlighted once you start receiving those 500 and 1000 chests..
Ok, so according to the game you don’t have 500 AP (otherwise it would have given you already a chest), but on the other hand it’s showing more than 500 AP on your achievement panel (2489 or so).
Looks like perfect material to screenshot and bug report then, since I’m out of ideas..
Had some fun with hunter’s shot in WvW last night. Haven’t quite figured out how to best use it with the group I usually run with. I would not call it OP, but it helps as an equalizer.
Stealth stomping!!!! (and preferrably a thief xD)
The F2 skill only works on the wolf I believe.
Works on my spider also (unfortunately the immobilize doesn’t stop the player from stomping me)..
too much traits what we need to be a good archer. i hope next patch give us some good skill merge. other classes can trait on 2-3 different things. longbow-shortbow combo doesnt count becaus thats a boring and useless set.
Oh, I see we have an expert ranger amidst ourselves here..
Care to elaborate why the LB/SB is useless?
Also, whoever said that a ranger was an archer? Ranger can trait for greatsword and stuff as well (not to mention the tons of offhand traits :p ) And we can trait for pets..
Eh? You mean the Lick Wounds or so? If pet is alive, it’ll run to you to heal. If dead, it’ll respawn at your spot and start healing..
Don’t see the problem.. :/
i have 2429 AP and i didnt see a chest when i logged in
When you check your achievement panel, what’s the first chest in the list on top?
Well, kinda depends here.. If you say you don’t like the full zerker part, is that because of the lack of survivability (which I can believe with a GS, I wouldn’t wanna stand with my paper armour next to that heavy hitting mob)?
Because I run full zerker LB/SB in WvW and manage to do so nicely most of the times.. I prefer running solo or in small group (please no zerging). My previous build wasn’t that zerker, was more carrion (I think? – Po/Pr/Cond Dmg), but gives you the same lack of decent defense or healing..
Nevertheless: as mentioned, it’s zerker, check out at your own risk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRFszeYiXWg
either a Mesmer, a Guardian, or a Thief.
Hmmz, the class I would suggest isn’t even listed..
