I’ve been working these ideas around my head for the last few days, and I think I’m a point where I want to share them. These mainly pertain to the minor traits in the Zeal and Honor line, and how I’ve never really felt like they actually fit in well with what the two lines were capable of. With that regard, here’s what I have in mind:
Zeal Changes
- Changes to Minor Traits
- Move Vigorous Precision into Zeal Adept’s Minor slot.
- Create a new Zeal Master Minor trait: Zealous Speed – “Increase Movement Speed at low Endurance.”
- Move Elusive Power into Zeal Grandmaster’s Minor slot.
- Changes to Major Traits
- Combine Symbolic Exposure with Symbolic Power & place it into the Master tier.
- Combine Spirit Weapon Mastery with Eternal Spirit & move it into the Adept tier.
Honor Changes
- Changes to Minor Traits
- Create a new Honor Adept Minor trait: Strengthened Resolve – “Activating Virtue of Resolve heals for more.”
- Create a new Honor Master Minor trait: Renewed Resolution – “Recharge Virtue of Resolve when struck below the threshold (20% health).”
- Move Battle Presence from Grandmaster Major into the Grandmaster Minor slot. Make it so the effect is stopped when Virtue of Resolve is on cool-down.
- Changes to Major Traits
- Move Selfless Daring into the Adept tier.
- Combine Writ of Exaltation with Writ of Persistence and move it into the Master tier.
- Create a new Grandmaster Major trait: Martyr – “Nearby allies are healed when you are downed.” The healing for this trait will mirror the healing caused by Empower.
Now I know some of you are wondering why I would think of these changes, and the answer is kind of simple. I never understood why Vigorous Precision and Elusive Power were placed into the Honor line. If anything, I could only see them placed there because of Selfless daring. To be honest I don’t think a line dedicated to group support should have these sorts of traits. I feel they are better suited to Zeal as a means of giving players looking for a means of sustaining themselves better in a fight without having to sacrifice their DPS.
I continued this line of thought by giving an much needed movement speed increase while on low endurance. All in all, a Zeal specked guardian will hit harder and move faster, but will do so by having to sacrifice their dodging, which is helped via the use of Vigor.
I also tried to help get rid of one of the more persistent issues the Zeal line has, and that’s the Spirit Weapon and Symbol trait. I combined some of them, and figure that they’re somewhat fine where they stand.
Now as to the changes to the Honor line, I feel like they should give support-based guardians an upper hand in an area that they tend to struggle with when compared to other professions; healing. I’ve done this by including traits that can boost a guardian’s overall healing ability via Virtue of Resolve. This also helps the line mirror Radiance and Valor, which both showcase Virtue of Justice and Virtue of Courage respectively. It was bugging me that Virtue of Resolve wasn’t getting a similar treatment.
Anyway, I don’t know if these are any good, but they’ve been bugging me for a while, so I decided to get them off my chest.
Quaggan-kabobs are the best thing you’ll ever eat this side of the Shiverpeakes!!
It’s been my online handle for years now.
It’s supposed to be a play on the term “trigger happy,” and describes my complete inability to play FPSs at the time. I’m not as horrid as I used to be, but I haven’t made much improvement.
Divinity’s Reach, not Lion’s Arch.
Anyway, this thread had made me wish ANet would let a few krait defect from their racial norms and try to make peace with the rest of the races. They’re a cool race, and it would be even cooler to have one as a friend!!
May I use your warm heart to light the torches I’m going to be selling the townsfolk. I have special going on; if you buy a touch, you can also get a pitchfork at half the cost!
How would the passive version of Virtue of Courage work with this change?
I played around with your build a bit, got rid a bit of your Power and Toughness, but also added in more health and Boon Duration. To help get you a bit more beefy in terms of countering degen, and to help boost some of your boons.
I also raised your Crit Chance to 25% to help synergize with Vigorous Precision and Selfless Daring, along with giving your mace a Sigil of Energy to help with dodge spamming. I gave your staff a Sigil or Renewal to help with ally healing, though you can switch that out with something else.
I used Ascended Gear, but you can use Exotics without causing that big of a change.
pffff this is 2013, there is no passive blocks.
only 30s cooldown block, and guard cant block, its just a name to confuse enemy.
Guardians can block, they can block with any weapon actually. They have this lovely boon called Aegis, though it can only block one hit at a time.
Because, you know, being forced to turn off a channel that you would have liked to have on because people are abusing how it works is totally fare. Yup.
I agree with Devon, players should be able to click on player names in the emote channel. I’m honestly surprised that this wasn’t the case to begin with. I mean, the channel is map-wide, so anyone with it on can see what’s being written, and as far as I can tell, it isn’t prohibited by the spam filters, so you can use it as many times you want without getting stopped by the game for talking too much. It really needs to be looked at and changed.
I thought his full name was Josh “The Quarry” Foreman.
Have you taken a look at the Queen’s Arena? I’s currently closed at this time, but the area around the arena is still open to tourists! You might even be able to learn a thing or two about human combat if you ask some of the fighters outside that missed the memo!
As much as I loved spiteful spirit. Spiteful spirit and Arcane Echo was a build all it self. This should tell you how powerful the skill was. Now imagine epidemic on spiteful spirit. This causes too many balancing problems that arena net doesn’t want to deal with. And I have to say its a bad idea.
But Spiteful Spirit isn’t a condition, it’s a hex. So it wouldn’t spread with epidemic. I’d love to see hexes being added back into the game.
ANet already said that they won’t be adding Hexes to the game due to the balancing problems they brought as Hexes were too varied in what they could do.
I miss Disease tbh. It was one of those conditions that could really get into a group’s head whenever it was applied to you. It made you think twice about getting near allies, or even enemies that were human, which added a cool dynamic to fights.
A nice way I could see Disease work in Guild Wars 2 could be to have to transfer itself to two enemies at a time. It could still be killer in zergs when paired with Epidemic, or even naturally if the person receiving it isn’t paying attention. Though I don’t think a player should have it re-stack onto themselves if they already have it, or people would just regain it continuously while in a small group.
Disease – Deals damage every second; transfers itself to two unaffected allies every second; stacks duration.
Well, I know the throne room should be completely unprotected, and you can easily get in without any problem. I’m sure Queen Jenna would gladly welcome you!
I think they should add Spiteful Spirit back into the game. Whenever target creature attacks, he damages himself, and allied creatures around him. It was the perfect aoe spell against large mobs of enemies, that killed them faster, the faster they attacked the players.
The issue with that idea is that you’ve just made an AoE version of Confusion, which I don’t think is needed.
Anyway, I live the idea of adding new conditions to spread out the ones we currently have. I mean, the thing I love about Torment is the fact that it’s almost impossible for a single player to get a full 25 stacks of the stuff onto a foe. However with Bleeding, I know a few builds that can get to 25, or as easily get close to 25 as possible, which just breeds a lot of stack wars with other condition builds.
I wouldn’t mind replacing some bleeding traits on warriors and necromancers with Fragility, and maybe even replacing the necromancer’s Blood is Power with a similar skill that gives Disease to a target instead of a large stack of Bleeding. That way, while applying Bleeding onto a foe is still possible for them, they can’t get a full stack going.
Mind you this is just an example that’s off the top of my head, I’m not 100% sold on replacing those traits and skill, but it might be a nice place to start.
This is true to mobs as they spawn, but once they’re out in the world they stay the same until defeated.
Wait… Does a charr’s loincloth also clip with their tail????
How about an Instability that gives you an effect similar to a quaggan’s “Hulk Smash!” ability. So if you take x amount of damage/hits, you go berserk, have your skills replaced with a new set that do a lot of damage, but you take double damage from foes. You can turn back to normal by not getting hit by something for x amount of seconds.
For WvW it has become “Immobilize Wars 2”…
More like “Stack Wars 2”
I can’t fathom why they would cap AoE at 5 (random!!) targets yet leave buffs uncapped and applicable beyond the party members.
I’m pretty sure that buffs are capped at five, and prioritize party members…
Ah ok then. I hadn’t seen the post made by the mods. My bad… :x
We have a crap ton of threads about this already.
Same here, I alway change my wallpaper whenever a new update preview gets posted. It’s usually the highlight of the preview days as it gives me a way of reminding myself about the new event. It doesn’t bother me too much, but it would have been cool to have gotten a wallpaper for an update dealing with one of my favorite parts of the game, which is Fractals.
You can reskin it later on using a transmutation stone – you can also start a new characther and transmute starter equipment to another item and then put that in your bank and then retransmute it again so your characther has it.
I couldn’t get that to quite work. You can transmute the other characters item onto a white merchant item, but you then can’t retransmute it on the character you want it on. You can still equip it, even though it says soulbound, but you can’t transmute it again (at least I couldn’t). The only way I could see that working is to pass the item you want the stats from (can’t be soulbound) to the new character, have it transmute the starter item onto that one and then pass it back.
You don’t use equipment bought from a merchant, you use a low level blue. When you transmute a piece of equipment, the item’s stats aren’t the only thing that gets transferred, you also transfer any bound clause the item has. Armor bought from a merchant is bind on pick-up, so that bound clause is transferred over to the skin. A blue rarity item never gets bound to your character, even on equipping it, so it’s the best item to use when transferring skins from a character to another.
Because I don’t care about getting a Legendary, so the fact I have never gotten a precursor means nothing to me.
I still find the way they choose the new Council member was odd. We knew that lore-wise the way you got on the Council was to pay up the gold, and then have the Council itself vote on whether or not the person signing up was right for the job. Having the general populace made no sense from the start.
Either way, I’m past the final vote, and am excited to see the new Fractals being added to the game!!
General populace wasn’t voting for his seat in the council. Council decided to choose whoever the Zephyrites will sign a trade agreement with, and Zephyrites decided that they will sign with with the one who has the most devoted supporters.
Hence, by going along with the bagde activities, you showed your support to Evon/Kiel to the Zephyrites, not teh council.
Still – Evon for the Council, elections were rigged!
1) There’s no way to prove it was rigged, and I’m a Gnashblade supporter.
2) It was still a vote, but with a middleman.
Considering that people weren’t meant to get to level 80 in the first place, and more often than not took advantage of loopholes to get there, I personally don’t see a problem.
Well loopholes like “beeing able to play with friends who are higher in fotm then you”, which came after the Patch which actually added this “you shall not get to lvl 80” to the game, before it only spooked around in the forums? Sorry but this can in no matter be seen as a loophole.
Which is funny because I wasn’t even referring to the piggy backing, but what people did before 50+ was blocked.

I take it cruising across a zone, taking in the sights and doing every Dynamic Event you come across is tedious?
Doing the same thing over and over again to try an eek out a 4% gain over the intended rate of acquisition IS tedious, but it’s also self-inflicted.
You, and the person below you, seem to both have the narrow mindset of: Your way is the only way to play the game.
I don’t care how you get your karma, I don’t because I’ve already done everything you’ve done. I have already done work exploration, I’ve already taken screenshots and enjoyed the views. I own a GW2 blog for God’s sake, I am pretty sure I take in the view more than anyone else here as it’s part of what I do.
But that’s NOT the point, is it? It’s just your opinion, you wanting to let me know that you think I play the game wrong. It doesn’t matter to you, because you’re not part of the group that plays the game in other ways you just like to point out how wrong they are.
On a serious note, I’d love to get this fixed. I love dungeons, I like doing fractals once a while just not every day, and I’d love to get karma for doing things I enjoy doing as I believe everyone should.
I never once said that your way of getting karma is wrong. Thanks for shoving words in my mouth.
What I am saying is don’t complain that the way you gain karma is not to your liking since there are plenty of other ways of going about accumulating it.
Imo the problem was that there was not enough karma sinks in the game, it wasn’t that there was too much karma and it was too easy to acquire. I feel that the original intentions of this game has gone completely out the window and replaced by how much can they milk out of the gem store. Maybe people weren’t buying enough karma boosters, I don’t know. What I do know is that Karma was and should still be the primary currency in the game because it cannot be bought and must be earned.
One of the main sources of karma were in the jugs that you could get from completing your Daily and Monthly. What’s more is that you could use karma boosters to increase the amount the jugs would yield, incentivizing people to buy boosters.
Not only did they switch out jugs with consumables that give less karma, but they also made it so karma consumables aren’t affected by karma boosters. If they really wanted people to buy boosters, they would have only switched out the consumable, but they still removed the ability to up the karma yield with boosters.
I like this idea if it’s as it was suggested as others, if it were once a day per account.
However, I feel that 10s per event seems too much. Maybe 5-7s, and with a larger karma yield.
This ^
You choose to grind the same few events over and over again to get karma. While I can agree that the nerf was too heavy handed, I don’t see how anyone needs to grind in order to to get karma.
Yep, it’s Tara Strong aka Scarlet’s voice actress.
Sadly, the Living Story is trapped in a weird limbo in terms of its timeline. It would be hard to write the members of Destiny’s Edge into one solid update due to the fact that the dynamics within the group are vastly different before and after the Dungeon Story-line ended. Think back to Queen’s Jubilee, the way Rox posed Rytlock’s reasoning for not going made it seem as though he Logan’s relationship required more work than was thought when looked at during the victory celebration in Fort Trinity. Including Logan’s response to having to fight Rytlock!Watchnight, and you can see the dynamic between the two characters is a bit fuzzy.
Ultimately though, the real issue is in the availability of the voice actors. The actors that play Logan, Eir, Rytlock, and Caithe seem to be easy to get, but Zojja? It’s pretty clear that Felicia Dey isn’t going to be easy to get a hold of on the off chance that they’ll need her again, at least not for anything short of an expansion. At least from little I’ve seen of her. I’m not that big of a fan to follow her every move.
Ever watched Wooden Potatoes’ stuff on youtube? He is very spot on on the lore and knows what he is talking about.
He misses the head on the nail at times, but he is a good source. Personally, I think going to the Wiki or Lore forums would be the better option for anyone wanting to figure stuff out.
they have steady weapons in pvp already.
what they should have is a complete collection of back items with all the stats. I cannot test assassins stats in the heart of the mists..
That has nothing to do with this suggestion…
Anyway, I like the idea of replacing the practice dummies with the golems you can fight in the Heart of the Mists.
Bumping threads is against forum policy, also this is more of a suggestion than an actual discussion…
Makes sense, u have to kill him to complete the dungeon to unlock the challenge that u ’ve killed him. rolleyes
Yeah! I mean, the two achievements were locked until you completed the Injection achievement, and even said that that was what you had to do to get them unlocked on them. It was absolutely clear!
There’s a page that has all the rewards for the event listed on them… (.__.) ’ ’ ’
Well, they certainly are real. If they weren’t, then the events that took place in the original Guild Wars games would have to be one of the biggest, most elaborate hoax in video game history.
A Human Mesmer not in full T3?
ZOMG!
!??
!1?!@…there are more of us than you’d think.
Here are my two…
Your male human looks so freaking cool!!! :O
Considering that he hinted, and didn’t outright state that one was coming, I wouldn’t hold my breath for one coming out in the near future.
I didn’t know that 2013 ends on November.
" If she was recruited, she may have come to her senses about the NC before the corruption took effect if she is even capable of being corrupted."
I just wanted to chime in real quick about this option that Dustfinger presented to you.
The Nightmare would not be able to affect your human-turned-plant-person. The Dream and Nightmare, so far from what we know, are constructs limited to only sylvari born from the Pale Tree found in the Tarnished Coast. Since your character is not a sylvari, let alone one born from our Pale Tree, it would not be possible for her to be consumed by the Nightmare. She could however go mad from seeing what it is the Nightmare Court is capable of, and they can get into some deep skritt when they want to.
Additionally, keep in mind that if your character doesn’t know if she is or is not a sylvari, then other sylvari around her would have to assume that she’s either from a different tree (like Malyck, who was born from an unknown Pale Tree in the Northern, yet to be explored regions of the Maguuma Jungle), or she’s a Soundless (a sylvari that has cut themselves off from the Dream through meditation). I say this because they’ll want to know why they have no connection with her, as all sylvari are born with an weak empathetic bond with other sylvari. That is unless they don’t know she was originally a human. If they do know her secret, then it can be easy to explain it as her not being an actual sylvari, but a human turned into a plant-humanoid.
The people calling this a bug… Have none of you ever heard of the term “oversight?”
To be quite honest, that makes way more sense for the current situation you guys are in. It’s clear that the people responsible for the creation of the Quicksilver recipie didn’t take into consideration of how Silver Doubloons drop in the open world, and how ludicrous the means players would have to go through to get the amount needed.
Don’t call this a bug, it isn’t a bug. It’s an oversight.
This is a ridiculous complaint. Overly-sensitive people need a reality check.
Take something as simple as a statement and turn it into something much bigger. People who are offended are the same ones that think every kid deserves a medal for “participation”.
While reality checks are being handed out, go pick one up yourself. Wanting to enter a contest in your native tongue, for a game that exists in multiple languages is in no way the same as giving every kid a medal for “participation.” The very concept is insulting and obnoxious.
I’ll have to agree here. It’s acceptable for people from non-English speaking countries wanting to use their language in the videos when there’s a rule forbidding it.
All in all, I have to say that only allowing contestants to use English lyrics for the contest is a moot point.
People aren’t required to use lyrics for their video. It could even be that videos that use lyrics may end up not being that favorable. Not everyone is a lyricist, and they might end up ruining their video by adding lyrics to the song.
This game is in multiple languages, right? If it supports multiple languages already, why doesn’t this contest? They obviously have a translator somewhere, otherwise they couldn’t address disparate language support questions.
Their localization team may not be able to spend the time to review submissions.
Likewise, it could be that they outsourced that sort of thing, so they don’t actually have one at their disposal.
And I hope those players understand that they’ll be forfeiting their chances at winning if they do.
As a native Spanish speaker (from Guatemala), I would have liked to have seen some Spanish lyrics added to the music (I find Spanish to be much better lyrically than English), but they made it a rule to only have English lyrics. I would hate to see people be eliminated because of stubbornness.
The biggest reason I can see ArenaNet not want other languages being used is because they may not have the resources to translate the lyrics in time for the deadline. The “we need to understand what your saying” comment may have come across as a bit insensitive, but is still a justifiable reason to have for this contest.
