The tiers have nothing to do with player skill. If anything, higher tier players are going to be worse players than the ones in the lower tiers, considering theres mostly blobs running around up there.
So if you move down servers for this reason, you’re going to have a worse time when you get steamrolled even harder by the smaller groups.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
It gives players with slower computers a chance to load in and get ready, therefore, no, it should not be removed, at all, ever. The only thing that sounds reasonable is what Laraley said and make the button more intrusive.

Can you imagine just how much better his logic probably sounds in French? As English is not his native tongue, his English-arguments that sound borderline insane and poorly thought probably sound incredibly eloquent and well put in French.
Not joking or poking fun, as he knows +1 more languages than I do, and I definitely respect that.

^^ according to some people, getting farmed by the same premade 8 times in a row is somehow a ’’challenge’’.
Then sure the matchmaking works fine if you think that way. You might aswell start the game 3v5 for a better challenge and claim that you’re having fun.
Seriously man.. if it wasent for the ’’expansion’’ people would already quit this game long time ago, and they will do so , if the expansion sucks.
Hey bud, I dunno what you’re doing wrong, but I’ve played against my fair share of premades vs. solo, and I’ve never been “farmed”, maybe 250-500. And when the odds are stacked against you, losing a game like that most likely won’t even drop your ranking. So I consider games like that practice

Who is outrageously lying? You got it wrong dude. The guy lives in the Vatican. The national lottery is basically him, Francis and 16 swiss guards.
For a moment I thought you just threw in a random name, like Francis the janitor.
Then I realized you were talking about the spacepope.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
I find the matchmaking system to be working just fine. I would much rather play a game and be challenged immediately (1-2 minutes) rather than wait 20-30 minutes to find the perfect matchup.
What everyone seems to overlook is that the people who browse these forums is an extreme minority of the total number of people who actually play the game. Just because people on the forums whine the loudest, doesn’t mean they speak for everyone. And ANET doesn’t solely consult the forums for feedback.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
This is an outrageous lie…..the chances of getting a pug team with at least 3 good players is highly unlikely, so much that you have better chances with the national lottery. Having 2 good players in a pug team happens like once every 30-40 matches.
Your average pugs lacks basic understanding of : rotations, game mode, classes…lol let’s just say everything, 8 matches out of 10 end up with me cursing Anet for this atrocious system
Odds of winning powerball jackpot 1:175,000,000
Who is outrageously lying?
I feel like most of my games, having 2 bad players in a pug team is unlikely. Are you sure its not just you’re skill level that might be below the rest of your teams? You should change up your strategy a few times and see which works best with PUGs! Good luck out there! ^^

I like the people who jump at an opportunity to cry “random dodges.” It’s called anticipation. I don’t whine and cry when my Steal or IS get dodged, which happens quite often.
Now this is a different story if they just dodge 3 times in a row and hope for the best. And if that’s the case, I really don’t need to explain how you shouldn’t be beaten by that type of thief…
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
AFAIK the definition that ANET uses originates from Dark Age of Camelot – where every class had “base” lines of skills, that you automatically gained abilities from based on your level. Where as the non-base line abilities required you to invest points into the skill-line to obtain.

Oh please, people would complain just as much – probably more – if there was no access to stealth in combat, but we were able to be perma-stealthed while running around.
Assassin’s where complained about in GW1, they didnt have stealth…
Ah, so what you’re saying is – people will complain just for the sake of complaining no matter what.

You mention killing thieves after a few fight resets. Or beating them into retreating and resetting, but you don’t seem to mention being killed 1v1 by them as a problem. The thing is, you’re not supposed to be able to stop any decent thief from resetting a fight. Which may be annoying, but perfectly balanced, because they can’t seem to kill you 1v1 anyway.

The OP is either trolling, or this is a poorly disguised QQ about Thieves. Someone seems bitter…and obviously had no idea how to play a thief xD

Its functioning pretty ok. If you attack a target and they evade or dodge or block it, then it should very well be used up, just like if someone attacks you with a CC, and you dodge or evade it. That skill is still used up and put on cooldown.

This might get more constructive feedback if you reposted it in the Thief Forums. But I agree auto attack on Sword is lackluster, considering if the payout of getting off the whole AA chain is NOT worth the risk you put yourself in by losing that much time of mobility attacks and dodging.

A big part of the GW2 allure is that there is no “mana” attached to skills and abilities. Not being able to just spam your hardest hitting skills or Ckittenil depleted energy is part of the gameplay and hugely effects balance.
Thieves skills are balanced that none of them are powerful enough to spam over and over and still be viable. However, you couldn’t take say, warrior’s Hammer #5 and allow the same type of usage.
If the game were to change to use such an energy pool system for skills, the gameplay would become much more stale extremely fast. Even if professions best abilities were toned down to meet that type of play, it would eventually just consist of each profession only using one skill over and over, as that skill would be the most optimal.

You’re right though, I didn’t see that post that updated that issue.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
Two things could have happened here.
1) The leaderboard may not have updated, if you hover over your name it shows when the last time it was updated.
2) If you switched characters (possible to make your team more amicable) you don’t gain any points, though that also counts as a loss.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
Ohh no,
When the entire team just ignores home completely right out the gate and you have to backtrack to cap it.
Wouldn’t you be equally at fault for this one?
Well, Im a thief, defending points is not my specialty.
So one I had to backtrack to said point and now try to 1v2 whatever just showed up, thief is out of the game backtracking and then out of +1 on any fights coming up and likely will have to bail on that 1v2 unless the players are absolutely bad
The only time I ever cap home is on spirit watch, and thats because I generally run the back line 100% and even that bit me the other day when two FA eles both burst me together.
On top of that so many after I +1 their fight will try to run off and not cap the point and leave me to cap it. Im like hey where you going? Thats my job to run off.
With mobility like IA and Shadowstep, I always cap home before heading to run off and +1 fights. It allows the other professions who can survive the initial brawls better to get there faster. If you like to go far at first…well, I dunno what to tell you there, you probably shouldn’t go far right off the bat xD
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
Darksyze have you played a thief?
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
I made a second thief character just to run pistol/pistol/pistol/pistol with quick hands and warrior runes for constant swapping for constant pew-pew. He’s the unsneakiest thief of all time. He does very well.
I had to choose between Ricochet or Invigorating Precision and I always chose Ricochet.
Not as unsneaky as my thief. I go d/d and p/p. I never use dagger 5. None of my utilities have stealth. The only time I do stealth is because I’m bad and have the fall damage trait.
Can’t let that ground see you, confuse the crap out of that grass.

lol @ op citing Code of Conduct in a terrible interpretation in his favor.

-Sorrow’s Furnace-
You actually didn’t understand what I said at all. I stated above that the point is not only know what you’re doing but also to master your class. I’m sorry but I don’t need to watch your gameplay to know people do not master the class after 60 hours of pvp. There is a difference between sort of knowing what’s happening and being a great player. And yes, there are great players being matched with ‘okay players who sort of know what they’re doing’ and that’s not okay. You act like you know everything and you’ve learnt all you could, that only points out how shallow you want your pvp experience to be.
You’re at it again! I said nothing of the sort. I said I was doing well. Which is true, I’m winning most of my games and having a great time. I know fully well I’m nowhere near mastering my profession.
The whole purpose of me joining this thread was because someone selfishly suggested a prerequisite to being able to queue for ranked. From what I’ve wrote, any halfwit can tell that I know well enough what I’m doing to be able to play in ranked. And even someone who “only sort of knows what to do” (a not-so-subtle and quite desperate sounding patronization) is very reasonable to assume they can start giving the ranked queue a try.
So thanks, you’ve basically proved my starting point for me.

Also, the fact that you say playing a thief is pretty easy shows you haven’t mastered your class. Yes, it’s not hard to figure out what you should do roughly, but 99% you’re doing suboptimal plays because you do not have enough experience.
Where did I say it was easy? [sarcasm] And I’m glad you know for fact that my gameplay is not the greatest, a spectacular mind’s eye you must have, since I’ve never once used a streaming service. [/sarcasm] I don’t know what’s going on in your brain, but you’re arguing against points that haven’t been stated. Stop being insane and return to the conversation, please.
You previously said 60 hours (which I still stand by being a very nice chunk of experience, unless you’re an incredibly slow learner) wasn’t enough to know what you’re doing. And now you’re being a hypocrite by stating that it is enough time.
You haven’t given any actual argument since you joined the conversation, unless you count covering your ears and shouting “that’s not enough time to learn – that’s not enough time to learn – that’s not enough timelalalalalalala” You get the picture. Well, probably not. :\
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
I’m pretty sure someone could run through the records of the account and find it. I’ve experienced it, I don’t have to prove anything. Just the fact you back up your skill on having some kind of winrate shows you do not know what you’re doing.
Do you? Apparently you don’t understand how the ranking system works, considering I’m playing a thief well and climbing the ladder, slowly. +1’ing fights, decapping and running back to +1 some more. Rocket science!
Also – https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/burden-of-proof – Yeah, if you want your earlier claim to be taken seriously, then yes, you do have something to prove…
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
(edited by Turk.5460)
I don’t have to have any evidence because I’ve experienced it myself. I got a new account on eu during one of the sales and went straight to ranked queue having 0 games played before. The first game I had was against and with people who regulary appear in touries. So yes, it does happen.
181 wins/60 hours is hardly enough to learn to play properly. People on the leaderboards have more wins/gametime per season and they’re still not the greatest, are they? I’m not saying that more time generally means better skill, but don’t act like 30 hours of pvp is some great accomplishment. You might have some basic knowledge, but the point is also to learn to play your class properly. This could obviously be solved by having a functional matchmaking, but it doesn’t seem like we’re getting that.
No evidence, so basically it never happened. What do you have to backup your claim that 30 hours of PvP isn’t enough to properly learn how to play your profession? I have a 56% win rate in ranked right now, same as you seemed to be, with not a large gap in between games played. I’m pretty confident I know what I’m doing, are you?
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
Wowzers, suggesting rank 80 is an awful idea!
Maybe rank 5 or 10, so someone gets the feel for the game-modes (which would require hotjoin to no longer give pvp xp)I’m only rank 38, and that’s after hours and hours of games, I can only imagine how long it would take to get to rank 80. Or that the matchmaking queue would take hours!
You’re kidding right? You can almost get rank 5 after one win in ranked/unranked. That would basically solve nothing. Having a rank 38 is roughly 181 wins in ranked/unranked, how is that ‘’hours and hours of games’‘? Do you realize there are people with thousands and thousands wins in ranked queue getting matched with people who are in their first games. (That’s ‘’hours and hours of games’’ btw) How is that not flawed?
If that’s how it works, of course its flawed. Still not a reason to bar anyone from a game mode. I’m very skeptical about that, however, so if you can, please link hard evidence of someone with 1-20 skill points being matched with someone with 400 skill points in a solo q.
Also 181 wins is 30 hours. Accompanied by equal losses, yeah, that’s most definitely “hours and hours.” That’s a lot of game time, regardless of what some people who have way more free time might think. Its also way more time than necessary to learn how to effectively play conquest with one profession.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
Yeah lets nerf any skill depth and situational awareness of Sword builds.
I’m a S/D thief in PvP, and even I want this to be fixed. Do I like using this trick? Yes. Do I like Engineers using this trick? Hahahahaha no.

This guy still hasn’t created and played a Thief yet. You’d think after all this complaining he would at least give it a shot and see for himself…
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
So by rank 38 you’ve managed to learn everything the game has to offer. Great job! I look forward to seeing your team rip up the next tourney.
I suppose we can stop posting all these threads about the lack luster match making as well. Glad to hear it.
I’m sorry that it took you so long to figure out how to play a simple conquest game-mode. You don’t have to be so bitter about it.
Anymore asinine arguments or baseless entitlement you’d like contribute?
Neither of these hilariously bad flame-attempts apply to what I wrote. Obviously I’ve wronged you in some way, though, enough to make you so angry! My B.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
Like I said, rank 80 was an arbitrary number. Rank 5 or 10 however is no where near enough game play to understand all the mechanics of the game play that are needed for playing competitively. I’d even say rank 38 isn’t enough.
Don’t forget I also said there’s no barrier for joining as as team. Only for joining Solo.
It’s OK to make people earn things. Specially when it helps prepare them for what comes next.
What a selfish and unwarranted claim. Just getting to rank 10 takes a few hours, you really think it takes more than that to understand the one game mode that is available? Everything after that requires practice to master, and guess what buddy? That’s what the MMR’s are for.
If you’re getting matched with terrible people all the time, you’re probably not good enough yet to complain about them.
