Play an engie and find out. Because if you think the waterfield is broken on turret and you want to remove it you have little to no understanding of it.

I do play engi. You are also proving my point. EVERY engi runs healing turret. That means one of two things: it is either OP, or the other healing skills are weak. The actual answer is both.

It is the water field plus all the blasts that keep turret engis alive so long. It is also why cele rifle nade spam is so strong. Name one other change that would bring both turret engis and nade spam engis more in line….

Try again with waterfields. Considering good engies don’t blow it up and just pick them up in certain circumstances.

Also, cele and turrets have nothing to do with one another. And go compare healing turret with medi heals, troll ungent and some other heals.

He didn’t say anything about blowing up the turret. He mentioned only using blast finishers such as grenades on the water field that comes out of the turret.

at 1:30ish I would have immob’ed lich with sword f1 or pin down, canceled with dodge (if using sword) and attacked it from behind. Instead of eating all the hits. Just a friendly tip for dealing with lich’s on warrior. =)

If you just walk backwards and swing your weapon in most cases thief won’t have enough stealth time to backstab you, so he will wwaste it on facestab or just run out of stealth. SA thieves are sure annoying as hell, but backstab itself should be totally fine for anyone who played thief ever once.

Why the emphasis on backstab? Just a facestabbing thief can kill you and just stealth when you try to counter him. Facestab, stealth, facestab, stealth. You die either way.

Don’t pretend there’s a punishment for missing a backstab. It hardly matters.

There’s a team getting actual money to make sure things are balanced.

They needed to be sacked before the game got released. Stealth is the biggest mistake any game can make. I say this as a Dark Age of Camelot shadowblade (rogue) of four years.

Please don’t compare DAoC or WoW, or any other MMO stealth to GW2 stealth. They are not even close to similar.

Not that most people would ever suggest this but for a zerg, the P/P ricochet build can be pretty fun and do lots of damage. Take a look at the P/P build in my signature as that’s what I often run if I’m hanging with the zerg.

This. This is waaaaaay more fun in Zergs than any of the other specs imo.

I use that same build except for three things.

  • Thrill of the Crime instead of Flanking Strikes – If I happen to get targeted, I use steal on an enemy (or NPC) further away that is not targeting me. This gives me swiftness and an escape to …hopefully less danger. xD
  • Roll for Initiative instead of Infiltrator’s Signet – I like my only stun-breaker to get me away from the danger as mindlessly and swiftly as possible. Backwards usually better than forwards while fighting P/P. The passive 1 initiative per 10s is nice, but the +6 from Roll for Initiative allows me to not only escape the cc, but immediately unload and regain HP even if I was low on initiative before getting stunned.
  • Signet of agility instead of Assassin’s Signet – Personal preference to have the 180 precision instead of power, and since the 15% increase on the active only affects the first 5 shots of a single [Unload], I’d rather have the two extra dodges and area condi clear.

…… Meanwhile, there is nothing AFK about a turret build, nothing! ………

  • Engineer drops turrets apart on a capture point.
  • I roll in alone to cap point.
  • By the time I capture the point I am at less than 25% hp

I play a S/D thief, this is after 4 dodge rolls, 6-8 Flanking Strike evades, and 1 Withdraw. All while still actively trying to damage the turrets. But since I have to focus everything on evading them, and their HP is so insanely high for AI, I am lucky if I manage to kill just one by the time that point fully turns to my teams color.

This is all without the engineer even coming back to defend the point. I am alone with his turrets. Yeah, whining about protecting your broken build isn’t going to get you away from this highly deserved nerf-bat.

If the “guild-only” group is currently taking an objective, whether it be camp, tower, keep, or castle – they have absolutely no right to ask you to leave them alone until they capture or leave the objective.

If you happen to run into them again taking another objective, same thing. It is not within reason whatsoever to demand someone leave while at an attackable/defendable objective.

I would rather have the PPT (and score) only count for the 1st 4-5 hrs or so of reset night when the numbers are relatively even across all servers. IMO, when the numbers are even, this is the best gauge of the server’s ability; not when everyone goes to sleep and the numbers are lopsided. Base the score and the placement of servers on the first 4-5hrs of the week when the numbers are even.

Unfortunately a large number of players can’t play during reset hours due to work/school/plans etc. Restricting points to just those few hours would not give these players a chance to participate in the actual matchup and work towards helping their team. This would also cause many players to just stop playing WvW except for Fridays, as there would be no other goal to work towards.

If you’re looking for something pretty different you can try the backline healer/rezzer build. All clerics gear, mercy runes, healy shouts, etc… Sw/Sh – 2h’hammer. CC for days, rez at the speed of light!

Eh, if they’re looking for fights and not capping anything, then it seems like a reasonable request to be left alone.

Now if they’re actively capping objectives, and ask you not to join them, they can go shove it where the sun don’t shine. It is NOT within reason to ask another realm mate to not capture a tower/camp/keep/castle.

My experience with thieves is that the best way to kill them is with condis. You apply them when theyre not stealthed, and whereas they can avoid direct damage when you cant see them, your condis will still be ticking. So as boring as it sounds Ive found the best build for dealing with thieves is the standard cele shoutbow/sword warrior.

Most thieves you’ll see in WvW are running at least 2 points in Shadow Arts, which takes away 1 condi every 3 seconds while in stealth-the first tick immediately when stealth is applied. And if they don’t attack out of stealth, the minimum amount of stealth thieves get is 3seconds, which equals 2 conditions removed.

The biggest offender of the cowardly retreat tactic are thieves (but you can push them out of their SR at least) and of course GS warriors, or worse, sword-x/GS warriors.

Staying alive =/= cowardice.

Ok… we’ll try this again. Maybe you missed everything before my statement of “No scaling is not fine.” (and it’s not, btw)

If you want to compare apples to apples then compare a level 26 blue geared ranger to a level 80 exotic geared ranger. Or a level 26 thief (basic gear) to a level 80 thief (exotic gear). There’s a world of difference both in terms of how much damage you do and how much damage you can take.

I’ve been on half a dozen servers, EU and NA, mostly T1 and 2. Of the servers I’ve been on, I’ve found the most enjoyment way down in T7 and don’t plan on leaving… I think people just need to stop blobbing and spread out a bit (:

Hear hear! I’m in T8 and everything I do feels incredibly rewarding. I’ll never understand why people are so attracted to those higher populations. Theres absolutely no difference in the player skill-level between servers, only population. The smaller fights in these lower tiers are plentiful, and I can only imagine that the community is so much more tight knit and friendlier.

At this point the problem is overwhelmingly the fault of the players. Sure Anet could have done things differently when the game was still in development. But this late in the game, when people are literally buying out other guilds and coaxing their friends to transfer. Even when Anet opened up free transfers, expecting people to transfer down to lower populations – the players chose mostly to try to pack as full into the higher tiers as they could, and still continue to complain about them being full, meaning they’re trying to get more people in the higher tier servers.

Anet has nothing to do with player bandwagoning.

I’m sorry but you’ve been lied to. Yes, you can get in and do wvw however chances are you won’t have much fun as an uplevel for a few reasons.

1) You’re going to be extremely easy to kill. In most cases 1 or 2 hits from pretty much anyone. Scaling is terrible.

2) Other players are going to get very unpleasant towards you when you die because of the rally mechanic.

3) You will be targeted by the enemy when they see you’re an uplevel. Because of the rally mechanic.

If you want to get a small taste of what wvw can be I recommend going into Edge of the Mists map where almost everyone is an uplevel and you won’t get raged at. Not only will you get a small taste of wvw but it will level you much faster.

Scaling is fine. I can take more hits on my upleveled (level 26) blue-geared ranger than I can in my fully exotic thief. The main thing that will differ from being 80 is how much damage you do. It will feel like you’re tickling the enemy, so you will definitely not be able to solo another player. But when you’re with another group of people, hey, 100 extra damage against the target is better than 0 extra damage!

My suggestion: With what little traits and utility skills you have, trait/skill defensively.

That’s not true at all. As well, what is fun for you, is not what defines fun for others. In my opinion, if you have to transfer servers regularly to have fun, your either doing it wrong, or this is not the game for you.

I don’t think you quite get it. The need to transfer to other servers is almost a requirement in order to enjoy WvW at the moment. The server I’ve been on since the beginning, Stormbluff Isle, hasn’t won a single match in ages because of a lack of WvW players while servers like Dragonbrand and Maguuma are never without full WvW zergs rushing across the map at all times.

Our server has essentially given up since the servers are always stacked against us and at one point there was a whole day of people just dueling each other as if it was a PvP arena rather than a WvW match. It’s absolutely broken. Even I’m thinking of a server transfer at this point because there is simply no balance.

If your server had given up then you would be in T8. Apparently there are still people fighting on your server to retain their place in T3. I find it hard to believe that I, in Sorrow’s Furnace, a T8 server, can always find opposition in one form or another at most times of the day/night – but someone in a T3 server cannot.

Thieves aren’t hard to play. Stop making it seem like using stealth or shadow step is hard. It’s not. Stealth really was poorly implemented and now they just can’t go back. There’s no counterplay, there’s no soft counterplay against a thief who knows how to use its kit effectively. CC during revealed buff? Please. Like thieves aren’t constantly aware of that and ready to dodge during the time their actually vulnerable.

It would seem that the people so passionately whining and moaning against open-field siege were victims of some outside AC’s and ballistae, otherwise I believe they wouldn’t be so zealously against it. Or rather, if they didn’t die to it, they wouldn’t have cared to come complain on the forums in the first place.

Therefore, these crybabies died to open-field siege. Which means the other side killed them, won the fight, etc. So the anti-sieger’s died, the siege-users didn’t die. Huh. Funny how that works. Looks like a pretty effective World Vs. World tactic to me! I’ll have to try it more often!

Learning S/D - Advice?

Watch Beyond B’s video of roaming in WvW as S/D. I’m sure someone will link it as I am far too lazy to find it. Even though it’s WvW, some of the tactics he uses are universally helpful. I was pretty decent at S/D, but got a whole lot better just by watching his video and remembering things like, Infiltrator’s strike isn’t just an opener.

Yeah, I used to be a Flanking Strike spammer, only using infiltrator’s strike to open, and barely if not never using Cloak and Dagger. Now I use flanking strike half as much and use infiltrator’s strike and CnD much more during the battle, really made a difference.

And before you ask, I didn’t get to read the blogposts (where they might have been listed) yet… well, actually I have forgotten to do so in the meanwhile. And to be honest, I don’t see why I should memorize the names of every player who won a tournament.

I haven’t heard of the people, or the guild, nor will I remember their names after I’m don’t posting this reply. But that doesn’t mean you have to type like a jealous bitty and pretend like theres no player/guild-fans, because reading your post just makes me think you’re bitter because nobody knows who you are or gets excited for things you do.

I don’t watch streams, cause I have lots more fun playing a game than watching other people play games, but at least I recognize that other people find watching to be just as entertaining.

Least favorite: Engi – because its hard for me to get my opponent to stand in it long enough for it to be worth anything.

Most favorite: Ranger – because its a water field for quite a long time, and if I have dagger in main hand, heartseeker leap finishers all day for 2k heals each! Same for shortbow blast finishers!

I’m pretty sure you and everyone else understood exactly what I meant when I described “permanent” stealth before a fight. Picking apart the literal definition rather than the colloquial implied definition means you have nothing else to counter with.

Most of the people QQing about stealth and how it works seem to have this notion that all stealth must work like DAoC, or WoW or any other MMO with a stereotypical “rogue” archetype. They just need to realize that its not the same stealth, it never will be the same stealth, and it’s a pretty unique take on the stealth “norm.”

As far as the people who think this game would be better without stealth. You’re entitled to your opinion, however boring an opinion like that may be.

The proper report would be griefing, and yes, that is a punishable offense. Contrary to popular belief, all reports are reviewed. The GM’s will not respond to you directly or give you any updates on the status of the offenders, nor should they. This post wreaks of misinformation and ignorance of a mechanic. Since this is the PvP forum I’m assuming your bad experiences here stemmed from conquest. Where in a conquest map, you’re complaints about teams stacking stealth is either unwarranted or a result of lack of map awareness. If any team chooses this tactic, which is a very poor tactic in sPvP, then they would most likely be doing it from somewhere you see them already. The counterplay here is AoE and general knowledge that there are now stealthed enemies coming to your point.

If they’re stacking from somewhere out of sight in a conquest map, the likelihood that the stealth lasts long enough to come as any sort of surprise attack is extremely likely. And in the very few places the out of sight distance is short enough to be able to actually pop out on a point (behind keep in forest), it wouldn’t really make a difference as if they just showed up like normal…

How successful is a team going to be if they have enough people in one spot just to stack stealth, leaving the other points open to decap/capture? This type of tactic (which I’ve never even seen in sPvP) might work for some gimmicky kills, but definitely won’t win you the match.

I’ve never been terribly good at utilizing stealth, so in WvW I play S/D 2/0/0/6/6. With the countless evades and dodges you can last pretty long. Killing all 3, however, is highly unlikely.
