It sounds like he finds it an unpleasant sensation.

Be careful about corruption utility skills. They all inflict conditions on your character. If you don’t know how to manage those yet you are just helping the mob kill you. Also, get well of blood for your heal, instead of the blood fiend. I find by the time I want a heal the blood fiend has died. It’s one less thing to have to manage.

Ranger Pets: Add Parrots

My Ranger doesn’t want to be a ranger — he wants to be a Pirate! Yar! With a trusty animal companion in the form of a colorful parrot who does his nefarious bidding. Squawk!

Please offer 3-4 different colour choices of parrots so there’s plenty of uniquely colourful birds to chose from.

PS. I realize that the rune of the pirate exists, but that is inadequate for my pirating needs. Any class can apply that rune; and I want my parrot around 24-7 with skills, not just a 5% chance while I’m getting pummeled. (However it would be glorious to have a second parrot make an appearance now and again.)

PPS. Please fix the naming pet function. No? Well, still… let’s have some parrots.

Possibly Silly race Question

Another armor thing to think about is: do you plan on making a female character? Asura females wear male armor skins and have no access to female skins (mostly due to their size and lack of breasts – it would look silly). If you like any of the female armor skins for light or heavy, then chose human for that class. If you plan to make males only, then nevermind, this won’t help you decide!

Truthfully, mesmer and guardian are excellent matches for both human and asura.

Also look at the race specific armor. And racial skills.

Revive Daily, Aggroing Mobs into Players

I feel bad enough when I do this to NPCs. Just standing there, watching as some unnamed villager gets wailed on by wolves or centaur, waiting for them to get downed so I can rez them. But I’d never do that to another player. People need to think before they do that to someone, because it’s not cool. But I can completely see it happening in game. There have been times when it is impossible to find a downed NPC and I’ve been running around the map trying to find one. Along with two dozen other people trying to get the same daily.

It’s even gotten to the point where I’ve considered asking in chat if someone would like to team up for a suicide club. We’d run around and purposely make each other die so the other could rez. Nuts!

Just a small suggestion. I’d like it if my character would make a verbal emote when the food buff wears off. I know I can watch for when the icon disappears, but this would help to be an immediate reminder to eat something again, and just be fun. Here’s my suggestion for what each race could say at the moment the food buff wears off:

Human: “I’m hungry. When’s lunch?”

Norn: “I’m so hungry I could eat a horse!”

Sylvari: “I feel famished.”

Asura: “I demand sustenance!”

Charr: “Chow-time.”

This bug is a problem combining: the leafy-style sylvari face + the bottom last sylvari skin pattern colour. It causes a colored spot to appear on the leaf in between the character’s eyes. You can see it in the character creation and it persists into the game in all visuals. It does not look visually like it is intended (at least, I hope not).

I submitted this just a few hours ago in January’s thread and was coming here to update my post but it is gone.

Cooking Bag, crafted by Cooks

I love cooking. It’s fun, especially the discovery part. However, my mid level character has his 20 and 15 slot bags filled with food. I’ve bought extra bank space but there never seems to be enough. I started to wish I had…

A cooking bag.

It would be crafted by cooks, not the armor crafting professions.

  • Material could be… ruined plant fibers. And something purchased from the Cooking NPCs. Or other materials, like wood.
  • I’d suggest that the bag size/number of slots needs to be a lot bigger than regular bags — since we have so many items/types of food.
  • It doesn’t hold anything that normally goes in the cooking Bank Tab or the Craftsman’s Bag (basic ingredients). It does hold mixed ingredients and edible food you’ve made or bought.
  • Unlike bags made by armor professions, it can not hold anything else, to be fair to them.

There could be different sizes or types. You could call them Snackpack, Lunchbox, Picnic Basket, Mini Fridge, etc.

Picnic Basket! OMG.

PS. Could you also make a picnic basket town clothes item. Activating it would create a blanket on the ground and other sundry. (Seperate suggestion)

The leaf between the eyes of this face has a spot that is not longer the colour of the skin. The colour is the same as the new glow colour, however the spot does not pulsate. The spot does not follow the exact shape of the leaf, but is partial and stripe-y.

The spot is apparent in: every zone, in the hero panel, in cut scenes, in both “best performance” and “best appearance” settings, in the log-in screen, with or without a helm — at no point in time does it go away.

How can Sylvari be Necromancers?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Udolpho.1209

Udolpho.1209

How my Sylvari Necromancer thinks about this stuff:

“Where life goes, so too should you” — All life leads inevitably towards death. Naturally, death is something that should be explored.

“All things have a right to grow. The blossom is brother to the weed.” — Just because you find it distasteful due to cosmetic reasons, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be studied. What grows is ones knowledge.

Back story is that he worked as a mender. Learning from the dead how to help the living (and to understand the undead) makes sense.

Also, once one has died, the body is all that is left. The person is no longer present within that body, it is discard, or waste material. Re-using dead bodies and/or experimenting on them should be seen as part of the life cycle. It is material that can and should be reused for other purposes. Ppeople have been using wood for material for a long time. Tables turned!

I have never used this, and didn’t know about it until today. But you know what? I am not bothered in the least that it exists and that roleplayers have a wonderful spot to do their thing. Is this hurting anyone? Nope. Is it kind of a cool easter egg? Yep. Will it hurt people by closing it? …Yes, apparently it will hurt roleplayers, who already have it tough.

Is it really such a terrible thing to leave in the game? Is this bothering or annoying people, is it causing players trouble? If there’s some exploit, if someone is gaining something they shouldn’t that gives them an advantage… or it impinges on other players happiness and ability to play… sure, close it as a bug.

But I vote for leaving it alone and treating it like a jumping game easter egg and have anet spend their time fixing actual bugs in the game. Waste of time to close uninstanced salma, imo.

Owlsdottir is an innappropriate name? Why?

I’ve tested it, and it is the lsd part. It’s too bad, because “sd” is always going to be a part of any -dottir name (you need the s to show possession). So every lore appropriate name that ends in l, if you add “sdottir” to it, it won’t be allowed.

True. The elements have SO much history that they are not limited to one-dimensional clichés. The have a wealth of associations that support a more well-rounded and creative interpretation.

Why have more than one class? Damage is damage is damage. But we have classes for flavor, because people like to imagine what fantasy hero they are representing. They want to be a hulking warrior and bash stuff, they want to be a necromancer and be all dark and creepy. Ice mages fit perfectly into Elementalists — or they could with a little bit of work.

Ice magic

Udolpho.1209

I’m another person who loves ice mages and wishes that there was an option to have this playstyle. Chill your foe and kite them, use ice as shielding, and do damage using ice.

I get that GW2 eles are supposed to switch attunements, and I’ve grown fine with that. Right now I spend most of my time in Air for damage, and I like ride the lightening. And the icebows been fun. But I want to see ice damage. I want to beat the kitten out of things with ice. I want to see lots of chilled enemies.

One of the big things GW2 toted was getting rid of dedicated healers.
…Yet most of the water line is healing and/or support, and water damage is way below the other elements. I’m glad that people who want to be a water healer/support can play that way, but I aslo wish the way I want to play elementalist would be supported too.

Here’s my suggestion:

In the next expansion, give eles a new weapon.

Keep the fact that eles can’t switch weapons in combat because they’re supposed to switch attunements.

With this new weapon, put the high damage skills in the water line. Flip the expectations! Make one of the other attunements the healing/buff/support line. There’s still damage, support, control and healing all balanced, it’s just using the elements in new ways (that are perfectly in tune with the concepts of those elements).

With earth, you could emphasize healing, growing and growth (Sylvari’s would love this). Or with air you could have “gentle breeze” or “breath of life” that heal and air bubble shields. You could even make fire fill that role — Cleansing Flame already cures conditions. Rift did this with a fire-healing Cleric build called the Purifier. There are lots of ways that the other elements could be used for healing/control/support, the same that water/ice can have more ways of being played than it does currently. Those who wanted to play that playstyle (whether it was ice-y damage dealer or it was a firey healer) could chose that weapon. It would mean that they’d have to chose that weapon but one option would be better than none.

The water line already has traits that support damage. If one of the other elements was designated the heal-y one, heal-y types can put their traits in the water line choosing the heal-y benefiting traits in addition to their main element. It could work: people could play their way, elementalists would have more flexibilty.

when you are done creating your character, there’s a good chance it will not look the same ingame.

With the last few pictures you’ve posted, I think part of the reason the chin looks longer in game is that her head is tilted slightly downward. In other words, in the CC she has her chin up. Look at the profile pics and you’ll see that the angle of the hair bun changes. In-game, hair bun is higher than the top of her head, in CC the top of her head is higher. Also the tip of her ears: in CC they line up with her eyebrow, in game they are higher than the eyebrow because her head has a slight downward tilt. It’s pretty subtle.

Before the accidental increase, cheap dyes started out at 25 copper. During the increase drop rate error, they dropped to 9-10 copper starting price. Now the starting price is 65 copper and still rising.

So, was the intended “fix” for the increase in drop rate actually to decrease it far beyond what it was to begin with? Is this working as intended? The plan was to make dye drop rates lower than what it was before the increase? The rates are steadily climbing, and I am going to assume they will continue to climb, so it hasn’t even leveled off yet. I get that there was an accident in increasing the drop rate, but why has the fix resulted in such a drastic decrease compared to the original drop rate?

I’d just like to hear someone say “Yes, we decided to do this, we want dyes to be much more expansive/hard to find than they were.”

But there’s nothing wrong with having all Asura if you really don’t like the other races. If you make a charr thief, chose the smallest body height etc and maybe this will make him look faster. If you go all Asura, just pretend that they are part of the same krewe and that is mildly entertaining.

Ignoring that some events I went to were bugged — to me, that wasn’t such a big deal, I just logged in the next day and the quest was working right. But my overall impression was confused and undirected.

I did some of the quests, and got trophies from them — what were they supposed to do? I tried handing them in to the NPC in Lion’s Arch, but that NPC didn’t want them. I was never clear why those quests were there or what the purpose of them was, and there wasn’t any interesting rewards.

I went to the new zone and it leveled me up to 80, but it was just another zone except I couldn’t gather anything because I wasn’t the right level. I didn’t really see any reason to explore that place as a lower level toon.

I hear the dungeon was good, but I wasn’t with a group so I never tried it. And maybe because I missed the first part on Friday, it seemed weird and sudden this invasion of “karka.”

I guess I like the simpler events where there’s a bunch of quests with clear objectives that give you new rewards. Basically I kept scratching my head and eventually gave up and just went about my business as usual.

If you give brand new players a 5 minute boss fight at level 1 when they don’t have the chance to understand how to do very much, you don’t want their first impression to be frustration, and you don’t want them to be unable to finish the quest and get to the real game. Also, sounds like a scaling issue: BWE were tough because so many people were playing, verses doing it alone.

So they just keep the kid? What if he had relatives looking for him? Who now assume he’s dead somewhere? You just kidnap him and keep him? I hope your GW1 character lives somewhere with lots of high ceilings.

And he never goes in search of other Norns when he’s grown? To figure out his past, find out who his parents were, be with people like himself instead of being surrounded by humans all the time (don’t tell me he didn’t get made fun of growing up), or to find someone to build a family with? Maybe all that happens and he just moves back with the Norns and his X generation grandkid lives pretty much a normal Norn life.

A lot simpler to just make a Norn who’s close buds with your GW1 character, who stay in contact through the generations, and both their offspring grow up visiting and seeing each other in a family-like way. No reason why they can’t be named in memory of these close human friends. Not as dramatic, but there you go.

edit forgot to mention; when i died the times i died, WITH my allies all also dead — by the time i ran back to where the boss was? he’d completely reset. i had to get him back down to the point he spawned his mob of mobs, while trying to rez my players (utilizing phantoms and clones for battle), just in time for them to get eaten by the waves of mobs. not fun a’tall.

I’ve noticed some of the personal story quests are so hard, it’s as if we’re intended to die repeatedly, but win by taking advantage of the fact that you can keep throwing yourself at it, by restarting from the checkpoint.

Restarting from checkpoint doesn’t always work. With the flying destroyer from my quest, when you start over from the checkpoint, your ally is still dead and the destroyer has healed either back to full health or close to it. So now you have to fight him again, but this time without any help, so your chances of beating him have now dropped even lower. Basically you’re just adding more repair costs to your armor. If they made it so the destroyer wasn’t recovering any health, that method would work.

But yeah, for some types of quests, restarting from checkpoint does help.
