Remove condition stacking. Allow condition crits. Adjust some numbers, end of misery.
And yeah save your bandwidth.

The issue in a bubble is a plausible one. Out of the bubble, one might think it’s their first foray into an MMO.

One more issue that’s been bugging me is, devs, seldom read the forums. Someone would gather what he/she thought is worth escalating then the devs become aware.

Do these ‘escalators’ actually play GW2 hur hur hur.

I’m not a ‘drops’ farmer.

But I’d be interested to see some insight on this from people who actually use MF gear in open world.

Because right off the bat, by using MF gear, you’re gimping your dps/total kills per minute/hour/session. In favor of a higher ‘probability’ of drops per kill.

I’m no mathematician but it’d be interesting to see how this plays out.

Are hardcore players this games worst enemy?

Nice try on the topic.

It won’t get very constructive save for a few posters.

No doubt hardcore gamers eat up content very rapidly. Wholly agree with that. And that might lead one to an opinion that there isn’t a lack of content but it is simply consumed too fast.

And enough beating up on ‘hardcore’ gamers or nerds whichever you choose to call. They are the reason why this industry is able to grow to its present state. Casuals were a minority. It only got ‘trendy’ to play MMOs in the last few years.

An mmo would usually allow a player several routes to be entertained. The main 2 would usually be dungeons or PVP. I can’t comment on PVP. Could never put my heart to it, just a personal taste.

PVE however. Now, I do not have any qualms about the way gear is atm. I think it’s pretty ‘nifty’. It would emphasize player skill/teamwork a lot more but the majority of dungeons do not require much at all. Most progression is horizontal since gear quality is capped out on exotics, putting aside ascended gear.

It’s a double edge sword. By doing so, there aren’t many layers for dungeon runners. You might jump in at this moment and say that there are other things to do. But, just like how some love to pvp day in day out, likewise some love dungeons. And there just aren’t many to do with any form of ‘meaningful’ (debatable word eh?) progression.

Just take a step back and break it all down into layers. It’s pretty much a piece of 3 ply Kleenex atm. It really doesn’t take much to get through.

edit:

Some of you also mention that GW2 is a casual centric game. That’s about as true as saying GW2 is meant to be a hardcore game but someone screwed up along the way up there.

Don’t peddle a skewed truth.

We should ban females from existence, because they make men horny.

That’s just as logical as blaming video games.

Actually that is way more logical than blaming video games; there is significant proof that women actually do make men horny. There is no proof that video games makes you murder people.

Use a little more imagination with the analogy and bring it a step further. Molesters, rapists etc etc. The fault or problem would lie with the violator’s psyche. Likewise with people who would actually act out from a video game.

Anyway, even though a tiff over the video game was mentioned in the police report, it wasn’t listed as the only possible motive. Journalists can choose to pick whichever sounded most newsworthy.

Ultimately he isn’t lying. Or maybe us gamers are just in denial that video games do cause violent tendencies.

What they don’t realise is, we’d be spending our time doing dailies/fractals than to remove our behinds from the chair just to kill someone. It’s just too much trouble!

Well if you were expecting people to read and understand your post, it doesn’t happen much around here.

Most people here also prefer to read ‘parts’ they like and ‘understand’ what they like. English teachers would be sad around the world.

The only answers you are going to get are the generic:

  • It’s not compulsory
  • You can do without it
  • You can check the reset time and do it earlier etc etc

Where you’re coming from is essentially, one shouldn’t have to schedule their life around a game just because it has a ‘time’. I’ve made a thread before regarding these dailies where these tasks/rewards are able to accumulate for a certain amount of time.

Likewise half of the replies were the result of remarkable selective reading.

I’m looking forward to choosing my own dailies. If your dailies are resetting at strange times, it might be due to it using your system clock, make sure it’s up to date

The only solution is if you’re able to rally your guild to spam send support tickets to their customer service. As a single person, they’re going to dismiss you, possible fraud case etc etc. In which case they’d be too lazy to check beforehand.

Perhaps with numbers, it might budge them a little.

Lest I hit another infraction today, I’ll just say this.

These classes are indeed in need of improvement. But, when played to their strengths, they still earn their place in any party firmly. (minus cof farming runs)

What is already lacking is worsened when players “play their way” or “play for fun” then it just worsens the issue.

You as the player are ultimately responsible for being labelled as useless (based on the gist of the replies).

It’s really time to break down the stigma where you bunker yourself thinking, I’m not going to be an elitist and min/max my build. I’m going to play for fun!

The players of said classes are responsible for the stigma.

Remarkably I find nothing wrong with downscaling. It’s novel, and it works. (to some extent)

I’m still wondering why my ranger with about 15kish HP (my guardian being a benchmark having 16k) would only have 2/3 of my guardian’s hp in AC.

The math doesn’t work out, but idc, the concept/principle behind down-leveling is a wait long time coming.

Dear OP,

It isn’t really a balancing issue. It’s more of a ‘build mixture’. If everyone is running a ‘selfish build’ ie: full dps glass cannon, it just wouldn’t work for some dungeons.

Instead of mulling over it, take steps to overcome it. Well only some professions can. When I’m powerlevelling my alts in AC, I’d usually bring a warrior or guardian. Both of them carry 2 sets. A full berserker and knight’s complement.

As far as efficiency goes, it isn’t the best. But with over 3400 toughness, you can just be a meat shield for everything an ‘easy’ dungeon has to throw at you. That way with whatever kind of pug you were misfortunate enough to acquire, you’d still pull through the entire dungeon without wiping.

Just a question of faster or slower. This is called carrying.

If any of the above doesn’t appeal to you, take the effort to form the party yourself, and seek the professions needed for a smoother run. It’s ultimately in your own hands. I get where you’re coming from.

Sidenote:

I levelled a ranger to 80 last week and geared it up all shiny. When I’m playing any other class, I love it when a ranger uses healing spring. But when I’m on my ranger, I don’t use it.

Simply because hardly anyone makes full use of a water field’s combo finisher. Only good thing perhaps is the persistent condition removal.

Finishing your dailies for Laurels.

Uncle Salty.6342

If you’re a casual player playing a MMO and assume you should get the same rewards as people who play everyday for many hours, you are greatly mistaken. This isn’t and issue, it’s an issue for people who are spending time with their kids/wife and day dreaming of what they could be doing on GW2 instead.

I’m really scratching my head here.

You see…

Let’s lay the cards out first…

Tom: 30 days
Phallus: 60 days
Harry: 90 days.

Despite the differing time needed to attain their 30 laurels according to their schedule, they would need to do 30 days worth of dailies.

Now let’s assume each daily has 5 tasks. Alright so far boys and girls?

I listed one of many examples as a solution that wouldn’t compromise the notion of effort. The example being, Forsaken World, another MMO. That game also had dailies! Amazing!

If you missed 2 days of logging in, you could still finish all 3 at one go on the 3rd day. Meaning 3 days of tasks.

In the GW2 context, if you logged in only on the third day, you’d being doing 15 tasks.
Because 3 × 5 = 15. If multiple sums perturbs you, think of it as 5+5+5= 15. Or if you had 3 baskets of 5 apples, you’d have 15 apples!.

That wasn’t so hard!

So, between a person who religiously logs in everyday for 3 days and a person who logs in once every 3 days, would they being completing the same amount of tasks for 3 days worth of rewards? Yes…

So really, what are some of you smoking.

But you’re right on LFG tool.
It’s kind of embarassing that GW2 relies on a third party site for groups.

I’m working on a Legendary, and so am karma farming and doing world completion. I log in for an hour a day and work on my current zone, and while doing so make sure I finish the daily for the 7400 free karma. This also gets me a laurel. I also keep an eye on the monthly achievements since completing the monthly is worth another 10 jugs of karma and 10 laurels.

If I have time after daily completion, I run a dungeon since I need tokens for Legendary as well and it also factors into the monthly. Then I log out.

Total time in the game: 45 minutes (no dungeon) to 1.5 hours 9with dungeon). It’s efficient and fun. I wish I had more time to just hang out, and I do that at the weekends, but during the week it’s all about setting goals. Otherwise the legendary will never get done.

That’s the thing. You’re made to schedule around the game. It’s a choice of course. Nothing wrong with it.

That however doesn’t mean it can’t be improved. In my OP stating Forsaken World as an example, the ‘daily tasks’ can be accumulated for up to 3 days. So you still do 3 days worth of tasks for 3 days worth of rewards.

There’s no harm in introducing some form of elasticity. There’s no asking for discounts or a total revamp on the system here.

Finishing your dailies for Laurels.

Uncle Salty.6342

So this is the current system.

The alternative to FOTM is to religiously finish your dailies . Meaning if you want X item, keep doing it for said amount of days. Putting aside, monthly achievement bonus of 10 laurels, let’s put things into perspective before I go further.

Assuming Tom, Phallus and Harry all want an ascended ring. 30 laurels. Which ring is of no relevance. Don’t bring necessity in. They want it, so it’s necessary to them. Your opinion of what is and what isn’t would be moot.

Tom logs in and does his achievements everyday. So it’d take him 30 days to hit 30 laurels.

Phallus comes once every two days which would take him 60 days to hit 30 laurels.

Harry often gets himself in a tangle and only manages to log in once every 3 days. Which would ultimately take him 90 days to reach 30 laurels.

With all the hue and cry for all the unnecessary things out there, why isn’t this a concern for any of you casuals or players who log in irregularly?

There are people who live rather sporadic lifestyles. They can be busy for a few and be stuck on the couch for the next. So because dailies are dailies, the deadline expires on the day itself. As such attaining said item from the laurel shop would take unnaturally long.

There are games like Forsaken World which allows you to accumulate your rewards for up to 3 days. That’s a decent compromise.

And it isn’t from the kindness from my heart I thought of this. I just went to bed early and forgot all about the last 15% on gathering to finish my daily. Brain fart happened and I wonder why this isn’t a bigger issue.

Dear OP,

it’s not that Anet doesn’t recognise this. You just didn’t realize it or think ‘it can’t be!‘. This wasn’t said with cynicism and agree your alternative is also a feasible alternative. But instead of replacing the current system, a new set of Legendary could be implemented with yours in mind. ‘Legendary(s) of Lore’..lol that wasn’t intended but yeah along those lines.

ANYHOO! Considering there are players who burn through content, Legendary(s) are essentially a fallback for Anet. If said player has done everything then, at least said players has Legendary(s) to grind for. Or an excuse for Anet to retort with.

It’s just a last line of defense for them i think. Nothing more.

The LFG tool debate.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Uncle Salty.6342

Uncle Salty.6342

Hello all.

I think why a lot of people are blown off by an “LFG tool” probably took place when WoW implemented a tool as such. All you had to do was sign up on the tool. It would auto-match and put a group together for you. There were implications and the repercussions are the current opinions about it.

Many claim to be vanilla players but I think probably 1 in 10 were. One step before this auto-matching system was a far simpler tool.

You pick a dungeon, you put your name on it. Your name/class/level is displayed. Anyone too lazy to form a party would just put their name on it and wait to be called out. Anyone with the initiative to form a party would have a buffet.

Now because populations per server on WoW are pretty large compared to most other MMOs, if I couldn’t find anyone on the list, I could do cold calling. I could do a specific search based on a level/profession/guild. A result would show and I’d ask around.

And if you entered yourself into a party, your name disappears from the list. This doesn’t happen on GW2LFG.com Furthermore, it relies on the warm cochleas (‘kittenles’, courtesy of Alan Shore) of a player’s heart to remove his entry out of his own accord if he finds what he needs.

Which doesn’t happen, as a result, I’d only entertain people forming groups or form a group on my own. Those who post LFG literally, probably aren’t so bright. Logically speaking, if any exists.

This has potential to be abused by silly people who randomly ask for help or gold but, the good thing is, runs are often organized within the server and your name gets around. And if people didn’t have the intention to do so, they know it’s probably gonna be a good run and come along anyway.

These days there’s hardly any interaction within the server over there or over here. It’s flawed. You can argue day in day out against an LFG tool, but you must be affiliated with the Westboro Church(wiki it) if you can’t even admit there’s something flawed with the status quo.

Lastly, on the above post(or maybe a little further). You have your choice to be sub-par they/I have my choice to be an elitist jerk. If the party stated their demands clearly and you joined, you’re the sponge. But if that party/I did not state their demands before you joined, then admittedly, said party/I would be an kitten

It goes both ways. Draw the distinction. Stop whining.

(So that’s where that silly go to word came from. Can’t even name a shellfish without a censor)

A lot of you who say, I don’t want DR have probably never seen what a “Chinese farmer” is or played in a SEA (south east asian) based MMO. (Those of you reading from the region would be able to vouch for this, lol)

The reason why I bothered forking out for the GW2 title is, I felt a little exasperated with how every F2P mmo had its economy turned inside out by these little boys and girls farming day in and out within 3-6 months of release and everything goes downhill.

The exchange rate of in game currency to the dollar would be so inflated it’d be like working for 6 hours just to buy a can of cola.

I generally don’t like many things Anet does neither do I mince my words. (I get one infraction everyday!) But DR, is one of the few things Anet got right. Keep it there.

Well, I feel 200% more comfortable with my necro with only ranged weapons for 100% of the content, and that means; I die less.

Even you who are clearly a godly player admit that even for the best of the best of the best, there is still that 5% that just kicks melee’s kitten while doesn’t really bother ranged.

As I said it’s not about one’s personal experiences, it’s not about one’s own skills – it’s about the game, the balance, and the difficulty in general. Get two players of equal skill, both of them above average players, give one ONLY melee weapons, give the other ONLY ranged weapons – the ranged will undoubtedly have a much easier time – THAT is what is wrong, THAT is what is unbalanced.

You answered yourself in a sense. Someone has to have the boss’s attention. Often it will be the melee. Dying and reviving is part of the game. Ever factored range would usually be in a good state to revive others?

Guardian is an all rounder. Even though he’s a guardian, don’t expect him to be noticeably tougher until he hits 60. Altruistic Healing, hint hint.

Warrior. In the PVE context where dps is concerned, I endlessly mutter to myself (in my mind), OP(overpowered). This class…. for the most part of his pre 80s, is able to pretty much hit above 80% crit rate. 90 very often. Due to the fixed bonuses which do not scale. There’ll be a trait where each unused signet gives you a bonus of +40 prec. (and perma fury uptime)

Things die very fast with this profession. Exceptionally fast I stress. Thus the easiest by a Hulk leap.

A mesmer’s sound effects would drive you into delirium. ie GS auto attacks.

Engineer is fun but…. Flame thrower frontal cone feels buggy and doesn’t always hit as intended. Grenade is one of the highest dpsing skills in the game. But it also leads to carpal tunnel as the grenade doesn’t have auto attack. (Other builds exist, but I haven’t fiddled with those)

2H Weapons and Sigils

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Uncle Salty.6342

Uncle Salty.6342

Wearing 2h is simply a double flaw because you get -1 sigil and can’t swap your offhand to get more desiderable skills.

While the missing sigil is a problem to me, I don’t see how the skills are an issue.

When you switch from two 1Hs to a 2H, you get five new skills to utilize, which can arguably offer equal (if not more) utility then switching to an offhand which equates to two different skills.

IMO, what’s more useful is a matter of preference there.

As you would have noticed (I hope), 2 hander melee attack weapons usually have a much longer cast. 1/2 to 3/4 of a second per hit. Esp Hammers. When you switch to a different weapon type, if your weapon is in midswing/midcast, the action is interrupted. Over the course of a long fight, it jeopardizes your output tremendously. It isn’t about theorycrafting. It just gimps you too much to be switching about.

In PVE of course

Also all for double sigils.

I do agree on the utility though. I have to give Anet that point where the skill differences between weapons have played out very nicely.

Well OP, from what I understand from your post, you’re using legends as an example or a doorway for RMT companies to control/cling/motivate players to buy gold. Legendary not being the scarcity but the precursor itself.

Comprehension I state in many posts is not this forum’s strong suit. If clothing were a reliable indicator, most people would be dancing naked under the harvest moon.

I shouldn’t think RMT be a consideration. Because as far as most people are concerned, so long as you don’t/seldom see gold spammers, all is well and good. Let’s group all things rare and hard to get altogether. And where people are able to lump into 1 category and say ’it’s not necessary, you can do without it’.

In this instance, I personally would love to get my hands or work towards “insert hard to get item which brings me no great benefit”. I wouldn’t mind working towards the cost, or criteria to obtain. Through personal efforts and not through the trading post.

And with the above in place, then bar said hard to get items from the trading post.

It should be a personal journey. Whether you’re a casual or hardcore. It’s like a trophy, and there are two ways of looking at it.

1) That guy spent lifeless hours grinding for it and he’s showing off, duh.
2) Woah that guy persevered through that crap. Remarkable!

Satisfaction comes after hardship. Take it in any concept you like. How you use this, shows your maturity in discussion.

I might be a closet masochist, but I have yet to find the door.

And yes one more thing. Anet made GW2. Stop pandering for ‘things like GW1’ and offer other alternatives. If everything were to be like GW1, they would’ve called this a GW1 expansion. I have not played GW1 and I am NOT saying GW1 didn’t have some good things going on.

Like I said, this isn’t GW1. Offer alternatives, don’t ask for the same.

I also bought my first exotic set quite quickly, but doing the pve, actually doing dungeons, takes a billion times longer than in WoW.

Be my guest if you wanna buy ecto’s into todays market… If you can afford multiple full exotic sets you are either a lucky dungeon exploiter from early on, no lifer, or TP exploiter. Me personally I like to play the actual game without being poor constantly, and that means grinding dungeons forever in GW2.

So I need to reroll an alt and do map completion to make enough gold to buy more sets? Lol what? I only play one character I shouldn’t be forced to do that.

Facepalm. That’s all there is to your post.

And to OP.

Being casual vs ‘hardcore’/elitist jerk/ whatever in between, is pretty similar to freedom of speech imo. Do whatever you want, do it responsibly, but just don’t **ck it up for someone else. Very plain and simple.

Content in GW2 is already very accessible. By leaps and bounds, as easy finding your belly button or getting pickpocket in Naples. The only reason I can think of where people can still find it too hard is on this assumption.

GW2 has a lot more first time MMO players than other games. They’re not used to it.

As i said, an assumption, in case people can’t read. (Happens very often around here)

There’s no ascended rings with utility slot.

Answer the question anyway, not question the facts when he’s just laying out an example.

I’d say yes to your question. Along with food buffs etc.

On the other hand, open world mobs drop peanuts. Thus bosses in dungeons would be your next stop. Just don’t be lamenting your uber gold drops while in the party. There’ll be unhappy people.

Charr Hide Armor, what would happen?

If I were to wear this now on my human and walk into the Black Citadel, what would happen?

Then a Charr would have a human-charr hide armor. If your human is female, then said Charr would have extra ‘shoulder pads’.

And using the Omnom bar.

Usually dungeon minibosses drop around 10(?) silver. With the food buff, you get 14, that takes the cost away from food buff already.

No real high points for me. It all flattened out when people started dying one after another when the personal story starts spilling out in Orr.

Then Zhaitan in all his glory chooses instead to give the enemy a speed bump.

In case you haven’t noticed, gem prices have been creeping up steadily with every miniscule gem shop release. (I understand if you’re ‘throwing’ money at them inflation would mean nothing to you, but I hope you see where this is going probably)

Less is more. In terms of inflation anyway.

Quaggan Backpack, then the roses. I’m sure more’s to come.

Small changes, huge improvements.

If you think about it, a lot of have nots could’ve been solved if this had a customizable UI. Like WoW!

As it is hammers are pretty much a stolen Jotun’s doorknob. Make it bigger already. If the size of the axe turns out like the hammer currently, disappointing would be an understatement.

Improved Fast-Cast Ground Targeting

I see what you mean with your idea OP and it’s not a bad one, but I’m failing to see how hold then release is any faster than double tap? Personal preference I guess. For me a hold-release would be far more clumsy and longer than a double tap, but I’m pretty comfortable with DT

It’s faster because it’s one button press. If you don’t want to hold the button down, you don’t. You just push it once and release, and the spell goes where the cursor is much like button-down fast cast. If you double tap, you have to down, up, down before the spell goes off. As a result, double tap is slower than this hold-to-target idea.

Don’t get too hung up on his solution. It’s just an idea, and as everyone recognizes, this deserves an improvement which is the point of his post. Seeing a myriad of preferences, more options would be better.

(then simple people would start whining that the control customizations are too complicated)

The underwhelming racial skills might’ve been intentional. Just so to reinforce that choosing a particular race will not give you any noteworthy advantage or disadvantage.

I do agree on bringing in Reeva and such. The Charr personal story was one of my favorites. A lot of the delivery on lore and the story is pretty half hearted. Much to my dismay considering the raving reviews.

I guess this was the first MMO they ever played for those guys. And my bad for taking their word for it. Facepalm.
